What does your posture communicate to yourself, your baby, and the world? Perhaps it seems unimportant or insignificant, but as you'll learn today-- there is SO much to the way in which we hold ourselves. This week we're speaking with my incredible friend, coach and mentor Paris Latka. Paris is the founder of her business IAM Health, which stands for Intelligent Alignment Movement Health. It is her greatest passion to support people feeling fantastic in their bodies, connected to their hearts and clear in their minds. She does this through Bowspring primal movement therapy, myofascia release, holistic nutrition & smart supplementation. She loves to geek out about fascia, postural alignment, and its role in our well-being nutrition, movement and anything that optimizes health. All of her work is geared towards realizing and increasing the love frequency in our bodies and on the planet. Paris and I will be speaking about the Bowspring method and how it's changed her life and already begun to transform my own. I pray this information will be of unbelievable use to you and your family, as it has been to mine. Let's jump in! Episode Roundup: There's so much more to our posture than just "how we stand". Our posture indicates so much to ourselves and others about-- who we are, what we believe, and how we feel. We can influence our mindset simply by adopting a healthier posture over time. How amazing is that? How we feel in our bodies and in this world is contagious, especially to those with whom we are deeply connected... I.E. our families. Our spouse, our children.... when we begin to expand and open, we really are providing in invitation for those around us to do the same. What would it be like to grow up in a family who is open, expressive and vibrant? Who is rooted and confident in who they are? We can give our children such a gift by being the fullest version of ourselves, both physically and emotionally... and as we've spoken of in previous episodes, this so deeply impacts how these children grow in THEIR bodies. What if we can prevent the collapsing in-- what if we can encourage beautiful broad faces and functional airways and so much more-- simply by encouraging our own expansion? And finally- I want to reiterate what Paris said- this isn't something that we're learning. It's something that we're reconnecting with. Something to rediscover. We're simply turning off the noise around us and connecting with the primal movement that is truly a gift of health from our Creator. This so deeply relates to my approach to preparation for childbirth and motherhood, and it's why I feel the Bowspring is such a beautiful movement pattern to implement as we prepare for, grow, birth and nurture our babies and ourselves. Be sure to check out the show notes and join Paris for her next cohort of movement! Go ahead and channel that inner beast (oh you know it's in you!) and wake up that Primal Movement through Animal Flow - Meooooooowwwww... Do you ever watch the "Discovery" or "Science Channels" to watch wild animals in their most natural habitats? "The Lion stalks it's prey," and we watch as that lion lays low the ground, tracking in silence, with the beautiful/dangerous prowess that only the lion possesses. How about the antelope with it's beautiful, delicate gait? How about that snake that slithers in sensual motions? This is all animal flow, and children tend to move this way when at play. As we get older, we're less in-tune to "playing" in our most primal states, and this is where animal flow and functionability training, and it truly connects mind to body in tapping into ourselves. The mundane workouts can get stagnant, and so can our bodies with efficiency. If you're really in for a challenge to test flexibility, strength, movement, focus, and coordination, go ahead and harness those primal instincts. The exercises, which emulate types of animals, along with Primal Weapons Movements, make for some unique, challenging workouts. The entire practice of Animal Flow has 6 components: Wrist Mobilizations, Form Specific Stretches, Traveling Forms, Switches & Transitions, and the Flows...there is something for everyone. The primal movements include the 6 primal patterns of moving your body via a: push,, twist,, pull, gait, squat, and hinge. Besides animal flow, my guest today will also talk about the tradition Indian Clubbell Training and it's multiple benefits on the body. Personal Trainer, Chanon Finley, knows all about this type of functional and "rather sexy" method of moving our bodies. Incorporating Animal Flow, Clubbells, and Stick Mobility with more traditional disciplines into her training ensures that every workout will be challenging and interesting. Chanon finds that using non-traditional movement styles makes it easier to break out of the typical idea of fitness being solely about losing weight or looking a certain way. Instead, she helps her clients embrace their strengths and progress with a body positive attitude, which results in both a more empowering mindset and greater overall happiness.PERSONAL TRAINER CHANON FINLEY BIO:Chanon Finley cultivates a mindful approach to daily life and fitness. She believes that movement is settling, puts you in touch with your body, and teaches you to be more present. Her business model has three components: - Working with private clientele, creating all encompassing body and mind programs oriented to their specific fitness and lifestyle goals. - Teaching virtual small group classes, creating a vibrant, supportive atmosphere of friends and family who train together.- Making movement accessible for everyone on her Youtube Channel. Creating engaging, dynamic follow along workouts for all skill levels. Chanon is insatiably curious. Chris (Chick) Jones Chris Jones is a sporty minded former chartered accountant from Wales. When he came to Australia he transitioned into becoming a Chek Professional and 15 years ago, with some colleagues opened a physical training studio, Primal Movement on Sydney's Northern Beaches where he is still practicing today. Chris is now the sole owner of Primal Movement and is a husband to Nicky and Father of two beautiful children. Close to three years ago Chris was holidaying with his young family when he was caught in a significant windstorm, where he sustained life threatening injuries when a large tree fell on him. Whilst trapped for two hours under the tree and the subsequent rebuilding of his pelvis and some of his internal organs, Chris found and drew upon his quiet and humble inner strength to not only survive the injuries, but to walk again and return to his family and the job he loves. This episode of Raw- Heart and Soul is personal and at times I found it difficult to keep my emotions under control. Chris is part of my Chek family, and when the news of his accident came through, I understood just what a serious position he was in. And I worried for his life and his family, and if he survived, how he would recover. We talk about the methods he instinctively used in order to stay alive until help arrived, the pain and trauma he experienced during and after the accident and how he found the drive to put everything he had into his rehabilitation, when the outcomes where completely unknown. Please join me in sharing what is an ongoing journey of learning about what I would say is courage, but what I know Chris would disagree and say is, just doing what he had to do.

Movement coach Nick Brewer forged an integrative daily routine to survive one of the deadliest prisons on Earth and he's offering live classes every day on Instagram to help us all endure the confines of quarantine. Read the full article on The Outdoor Journal.Nick co-founded Project Ibiza, an amalgamation of different disciplines and activities, combining art, work, exercise, and play, with the mission to integrate wellness and movement into everyday working life. Nick may be 50 years old, but his physique is that of a 25-year-old gymnast. For the past 35 years, Nick has devoted himself to an array of movement paradigms, including yoga, pilates, and gymnastics, with a particular focus on longevity. Nick teaches a daily in-person primal movement class to accommodate movers of all ages and backgrounds.Throughout our global quarantine, Nick has been sharing his multidisciplinary teachings daily with the world for free - live on Instagram. Every day at 10 am, you'll find a shirtless Nick, stretching, squatting, and contorting his body to keep it performing like an elite Cirque du Soleil athlete. A stream of gratitude and adulation scrolls by in the comments section. A cat or two scurries through the frame, jealous for attention. You would never guess it from Nick's serene demeanor that in his former life he climbed the ladder from rookie smuggler to cocaine kingpin. After breaking his back in three places and ending his competitive skiing career, Nick spiraled into the smuggler's underground and devised a cocaine smuggling scheme which allowed him to live the playboy lifestyle in Argentina. After the Argentine drug squad caught him with $30 million dollars of cocaine, he was sentenced to 10 years in one of the deadliest prisons on Earth. He served 6, and during that time, he mastered his body by committing to 3 to 4 hours of yoga practice each day. He realized his ultimate goal and dream is to integrate movement into as many lives as possible. During quarantine, he began sharing his classes live on Instagram every day and the response from around the world has been overwhelming. Under quarantine lockdown, people are using Nick's class as “a daily get out of jail free card” to improve themselves physically, mentally, and spiritually even while isolated in one place.

DAILY INSIGHT: Yoga teacher John Stirk has made a number of discoveries in his decades of practice. In his book The Original Body, he urges us to practice primal movement. You can start by taking the time to move slowly, as if you’re moving for the very first time. In doing so you can begin to shed the layers of conditioning that affect every physical expression you make in daily life. And then you can access a new experience of your body, and its relationship with your mind. What kind of movement makes you feel free? DAILY ACTION: Lie down on the floor with your knees bent and your feet flat on the ground. Close your eyes and rest your hands on your chest. And then when you feel moved to do so…move. Slowly. Spend a few minutes here, allowing your hands and legs to move in space as if exploring your environment anew.

This episode turned out as great as I thought it would. My sister, Jacqui, is a pretty unique individual, in many ways. One way, is her ability from a young age to “let things go”. She was always very good at not caring about things other people cared about - I guess it’s a sign of not having much of an ego (“ego” being built from past and future thoughts) – which is a great attribute for helping reduce “stress”. Jac talks about her dislike of the word “stress” and gives us a much better way to approach and deal with stress. She’s also pretty funny so I hope you get entertained as well as learn something from this show. After nursing for many years, Jac became a paramedic and has continually gained higher qualifications through work. We talk about how she deals with the traumatic experiences she encounters and the times she has had to talk to the employee provided psychiatrist and the unique circumstances that lead to that. Jac gives us a great insight into how she changed her approach to health in her late 30’s and still maintained her incredibly balanced lifestyle. We chat about how she keeps on track to achieving goals for living pain free and enjoying exercise more than when in her twenties. One of her goals is her annual 100km walk for MedEarth charity, which we talk about. If you’d like to donate here is the link to Jac’s fundraising page. A pretty amazing feat for someone who had pain walking 1km before putting her health and movement as a priority. We cover the changes that helped get her there and much more. A big part of her change was due to employing Chris Jones from Primal Movement to help with a holistic approach and be accountable for her actions. We interviewed Chris in a previous episode about his business Primal Movement, helping Jac and his other clients, and how he survived being crushed by a huge tree last Christmas. Jac and I have a laugh and discover how she influenced her partner to get involved in the cooking at home, and then become a good cook himself, which is pretty important for the nights she gets home late from work and now can eat healthy home cooked meals Barry has prepared for her. Night shift is a big factor of health and for some can’t be avoided. We talk about the impact of night shift work on health, and also on food cravings. There is some gold advice for anyone of all walks of life in this chat, and is also a fascinating insight into life as a paramedic, and as a Jacobs sibling! haha. And lastly, if you liked this podcast please donate to Jac’s 100km walk fundraising page for Med Earth. It’s an incredible charity, and it would help me stay Jac’s favourite brother if you donate and mention this podcast ;) haha! Beat this Tim! Thanks everyone! Have a great day! And if it's not going great so far, take a few slow breaths into your belly and pause for a moment. Don't sweat the small stuff, and stop thinking about the stuff that will make you feel crap, just like Jac does everyday. PJ

A self-proclaimed perfectionist constantly wanting to improve his practice and already vast skill set.
This week, in the first interview on the LYOF podcast, I have an incredible guest, with an even more incredible story. Chris Jones has influenced my friends, my family, and myself with his very holistic approach to health and performance through his business Primal Movement, and he also has a near death story of survival after a very large tree fell on him in a remote area of NSW while on Christmas holidays in 2017. Chris is a certified Chek Practioner level 2 and Chek Holistic Lifestyle Coach Level 2, with 14 years experience in the industry helping people achieve goals and improve their lives. Primal Movement is a large private studio gym on the northern beaches of Sydney, where Chris and his team coach, consult, and workout. I can’t thank Chris enough for giving his precious time and energy to have this chat in between his rehabilitation sessions at Primal Movement, when I visited my hometown of Sydney. As you’ll hear, Chris also talks openly about his very traumatic experience of being crushed under a tree for hours, and the journey of recovery and discovery he has been on, and still going through. It is a true reflection of his personable and honest nature that he was so giving to myself and everyone else listening in. We talk about how Chris survived being crushed by a tree for 2 hours before being freed, with unimaginable pain and pressure on his shattered pelvis and stomach. The mindset skills and strength that Chris has developed over a lifetime of team sports and teaching about the body and mind connection to his clients was a major factor, as well as the state of health and strength which he had when this happened through his own practice of what he teaches. He advocates a truly holistic approach to complete wellness and resilience in life, and my sister can attest as she is one of Chris’s endless success stories of improving everything from posture, weight, sugar cravings, improved food choices (in taste and health benefits), strength, aches, sleep, energy, outlook on life and “gyms” and “diets”…the list is endless. How Chris survived the many months in hospital afterward, along with his incredibly speedy recovery after such trauma to his body, is testament to how good nutrition matters. We chat about how he didn’t touch the hospital food, ate incredibly nutritious food and supplements, and how everyone in his community looked after him with the best of everything to help him recover and become strong again. http://primalmovement.com.au Primal Movement is in Brookvale, on the Northern Beaches of Sydney, and I highly recommend you go and meet Chris if you want to get healthier and more capable in your everyday life, just as I recommended my sister go there and it has changed her life. My favorite form of exercise is primal movement sequences. With this type of exercise the body doesn't get a pattern overload which causes muscular imbalances. These natural movements stimulate the lymphatic system. They could be used as cardio, strength, endurance, Pilates, or yoga. This is a universal way to exercise. It is unilateral, heart healthy, joint healthy, synergistic and creative. The sequences and poses that I constructed are meant to complement each other. Excel to a level where you can transition through the sequences seamlessly with fluency. Keep progressing, your awesome!
Today’s episode features Pat Davidson, Ph.D., director of training methodology and continuing education at Peak Performance NYC. He is the author of MASS and MASSII and is a sought out expert in the field regarding all things training and human performance. Pat has competed as a 175-strongman competitor, and was a 2x world championships qualifier, and also has experience in competitive submission wrestling and mixed martial arts. Prior to his current work, Pat served 5 years as an assistant University profession in exercise sciences. Pat’s areas of expertise are many, and some of my favorite podcasts I’ve listened to had him as a guest discussing the nervous system and the brain. If you’ve listened to earlier episodes of the Just Fly Performance Podcast, with Justin Moore or Cody Plofker, you’ve probably heard them mention Pat as a mentor to them, particularly in the universe of Postural Restoration Institute, and its relationship to strength and conditioning and athletic performance training. In the world of writing, one of Pat’s recent articles really got my wheels turning, where he discussed the dynamics of the knees traveling inwards in a squat, and how simply cueing everyone to “shove their knees out” in squatting can set them backwards. I’m always fascinated by Pat’s writing and work, and I’m delighted to have him as the next podcast guest, as his thoughts on the big lifts have an impact on everything we see in our athletes training movements. Today’s episode centers around breathing, and dissecting posture and setup in squatting and deadlifting, as well as other common bodyweight training exercises. So often we coach and cue movements thinking that an athlete’s presentation that movement can simply be cued “in the other direction”, but there are much deeper ramifications to be aware of. Other topics include muscular vs. impinging strategies in movement, internal rotation in squatting, neck alignment and breathing, training mindset, and more. Today’s episode is brought to you by SimpliFaster, supplier of high-end athletic development tools, such as the Freelap timing system, kBox, Sprint 1080, and more. Key Points: Discussing “butt-back chest-out” cues in squatting and benching Muscular versus impinging strategies in barbell training Pat’s thoughts on internal rotation of femurs and “knees coming in” while squatting and its relationship to the gait cycle Setting up a deadlift and its relationship to the breathing, function, and the gait cycle Neck alignment and breathing in common exercises such as deadlifts and pushups Performing loaded functional squats in the PRI methodology for maximal hamstring contraction in a squat pattern Sensory vs. training mindsets Quotes “When bones move away from each other we create instability, and when they move towards each other we create impingement, so it’s all a case of where do I want to be unstable, and where do I want to create impingement” “If I can lift weights, get strong and add muscle, while still being able to manage respiration and utilize the diaphragm for inhalation, then I am probably decreasing deleterious physical cost while building fitness” “A lot of people need to learn how to be more unstable, they need to learn how to let bony elements move away from each other” “Adduction is not valgus, valgus is not adduction.” “If you want to know what a PEC pelvis is, look at chimpanzee gait mechanics” “If I can’t abduct and internally rotate my femurs, then I’ll just go further into abduction and external rotation so I can relatively adduct and internally rotate to come back to the top (of a squat)” “I’m fine with knees coming in, as long as on a table you show me that knees can adduct and internally rotate” “When it comes to the sagittal plane I don’t really like this term “neutral spine”” “I don’t coach people on day one, I just make people do bent over rows,

Mark expands the Primal Blueprint Podcast by recording select Mark's Daily Apple posts for your listening pleasure!Back in 2006 when I started writing my blog – Mark's Daily Apple – the average person had no clue about the Primal lifestyle. Those of us who espoused it were fringe characters, radicals on street corners with cardboard signs. But sometimes those crazy guys on the street aren't so crazy. Sometimes their rants and raves catch on. Check out today's episode for a recap of what's happened since. (These Mark's Daily Apple articles were written by Mark Sisson, and are narrated by Brock Armstrong)
