200: Learning the Art of Self-Trust as a Leader in Your Consulting Business

✨ We made it. Episode 200. ✨ That's 200 conversations, reflections, truth-bombs, mindset shifts, and gently delivered mic drops. 200 episodes of holding space for ambitious women B2B consultants who are done with burnout and ready for sustainable, soul-aligned success. Honestly? Hitting 200 episodes feels like a big milestone. Not because of the number - though it's a good one - but because of what it represents. Years of walking alongside you. Of speaking into the void and trusting that the right women would find these words at just the right time. And they have. To celebrate, we're re-releasing one of the most-loved episodes we've ever shared. This one's all about self-trust. Because the deeper I go into this work, the more I see how central self-trust is to everything we want to create. Not just in our consulting businesses, but in how we live, lead, and be. In this episode, I unpack themes like: Radical non-attachment (yes, even to our biggest goals) Letting go of external validation (no more gold stars, thank you very much) Learning to root our confidence internally, rather than chasing it in client feedback or bank balances It's an invitation to loosen your grip on outcomes and instead, lean into trust. Trust in your value. Trust in your process. Trust in the bigger picture. Because when you stop white-knuckling and start listening to your intuition? That's when it gets really good. This episode is for the women who are ready to stop playing small, stop waiting for permission, and start moving from a place of quiet power and unshakable belief in what they're here to do. Here's to the next 200. Let's keep growing, gently and powerfully.   Quotes:  “Even in a corporate facing consultancy business, by setting our value internally and by practicing radical attachment, I am convinced we set ourselves up to receive more than we can even imagine. Because think about it - It means we can try stuff in our businesses and fail and not be crushed.” “We can learn more. We can reach out for the wisdom of others. We can get the support we need to make good decisions. We can hire people with expertise that complements our own. But most of all, we can trust ourselves to make the decision we need to make. Even if we don't get it right the first time.” “When we make the source of our fulfillment and happiness something that's external to us, for example, I have to get this job, I have to get that contract, that award, that relationship, that connection in my network… when we make this something external to us, we become completely powerless. Whereas the flip side of this, allowing our source of fulfillment to be something internal to us, we become powerful.”   Useful Links Buy Too Much on Amazon Get in touch with Jessica to discuss your consulting business Join the weekly newsletter for women consultants Leave a rating and review for the Seven Figure Consultant Podcast Connect with Jessica on LinkedIn Follow Jessica on Instagram

377 The Art of Storytelling: A Controlled Burn in The Forest Of Life   Throughout life we have a tendency to collect things, whether they be stories, memories, or physical objects, and more often than not we cling to these things despite them no longer serving us in any meaningful capacity. Which is why it is important to sit back, look at your hoard and realize you are not a dragon who must keep every single piece of scrap. You can thank the item, story, or memory and leave it behind so that you can open up to new possibilities and new meaningful things to put in your life. In todays episode Sarah Elkins educates us on the importance of controlled burns in the national parks of the west, as well as the importance of our own “controlled burns” to clear away the clutter and make way for new, healthy growth in our lives.    Highlights Protecting our future and our communities, means protecting our environment too. Sometimes you need to shed the dead parts of the past in order to grow.  What strategies can you use to do your own “controlled burn”, to remove the things in your life that no longer serve you in a meaningful way?   Quotes “Even in my life activities I'm finding I need to shed things like relationships that no longer serve me, relationships that don't feel reciprocal at all, commitments that feel too obligatory and not meaningful. And work activities that aren't moving the needle for me in income or intrinsic reward.” “A controlled burn requires research, planning, and a whole lot of patience.”   Dear Listeners it is now your turn, If you're feeling overwhelmed with to much mental and physical clutter it might be time for you to take inventory too. Ask yourself the tough questions on what you truly need and want in your life and your home. And I hope you'll take the next steps to research and plan and patiently reduce that clutter.  And, as always, thank you for listening.    As I mentioned I am celebrating my five year book-versary, starting today Your Stories Don't Define You was published May 31, 2020. Starting this podcast was a wakeup call for me, I realized I was coaching my guests in sharing their pivotal moment stories, and they were finding great value in our time together, way beyond any promotional opportunity the podcast was offering. The book is designed to guide readers in collecting and sharing their stories with exercises and worksheets throughout. To celebrate my book-versary, I'm offering to sign and ship copies from Montana to you, and every purchase will include an offer for a 20 minute bullseye story mining session. In 20 minutes we will uncover at least one meaningful story for you to fine tune for you to use in your next interview, team meeting, speaking engagement, networking event, or maybe it's a date.  I really appreciate your support over the years and this is my way of giving that back.   About Sarah "Uncovering the right stories for the right audiences so executives, leaders, public speakers, and job seekers can clearly and actively demonstrate their character, values, and vision." In my work with coaching clients, I guide people to improve their communication using storytelling as the foundation of our work together. What I've realized over years of coaching and podcasting is that the majority of people don't realize the impact of the stories they share - on their internal messages, and on the people they're sharing them with. My work with leaders and people who aspire to be leaders follows a similar path to the interviews on my podcast, uncovering pivotal moments in their lives and learning how to share them to connect more authentically with others, to make their presentations and speaking more engaging, to reveal patterns that have kept them stuck or moved them forward, and to improve their relationships at work and at home. The audiobook, Your Stories Don't Define You, How You Tell Them Will is now available! Included with your purchase are two bonus tracks, songs recorded by Sarah's band, Spare Change, in her living room in Montana. Be sure to check out the Storytelling For Professionals Course as well to make sure you nail that next interview!

Web Description: Christianity is suffering tribulation today even if we as individuals feel unaffected by it. We need to be one with our fellow Christians who are suffering and be praying for them. Let us not be fearful of what satan might do to us because Christ defeated him at the cross. Even if we must face death ourselves, we overcome satan by simply exercising Christ's victory.   Show Notes: The Lord said to the church in Smyrna, “I know your tribulation and your poverty.” Just as God knew then what the Christians in Smyrna were suffering, He is aware of what Christians are suffering today. And there are many Christians today who live under tribulation and endure great poverty. These are not people with whom we have no connection. They are fellow members of the Body of Christ with whom we are one. We should be aware of their suffering and be crying out to God for them.   According to Open Doors, a group that ministers to persecuted Christians, more than 380 million Christians worldwide suffer persecution and discrimination. This is the reality surrounding all of us in Christianity right now. We should be aware of it, and we should be prepared for however God would lead us. The Lord said to Smyrna, “Do not fear … Be faithful until death, and I will give you the crown of life.” We should not be fearful even if it means giving our lives for Christ, just as many believers are doing today.   Maybe you believe in the rapture and are planning to escape tribulation. That does not change the fact that many Christians are now in tribulation, experiencing hunger, imprisonment, and even death for His sake. We should remove any fear from our hearts and refuse to be separated from the suffering of our brothers and sisters in Christ. Let us deliberately study and become aware of what is really transpiring in Christianity throughout the world we live in. We need to be interceding for the Body of Christ in this day.   Key Verses:   •       Revelation 2:8–11. “I know your tribulation and your poverty.” •       Revelation 12:9–12. “They did not love their life even when faced with death.” •       Romans 16:20. “The God of peace will soon crush Satan under your feet.”   Quotes:   •       “Even if you say, ‘Well, I am not suffering,' be aware that your brothers and sisters are suffering potentially great tribulations and also poverty.” •       “We need to reach in for a faith before the Lord that gives us a freedom from fear and allows us to recognize that satan is on the earth raging. And he is casting believers into prison and people are being tested in their faith and there will be tribulations that come.” •       “As believers in this day and age, facing the raging of Satan in the earth in this time, we must not be fearful. We must not love our lives unto death. And we must be ready to sacrifice and give our life if that is what is necessary because this battle will rage. But we know that the battle will be won because it has already been won on the cross.”   Takeaways:   1.    Much of the Body of Christ today lives in the midst of tribulation and poverty. We need to put some time into studying what is happening to believers throughout the world, become aware of what they are suffering, and intercede for them. 2.    As Christians there is no guarantee that we will escape tribulation. Many Christians are already suffering from satan's raging and it could happen to any of us. The Lord told the church in Smyrna not to be fearful. And we should ask the Lord to remove any fearfulness from our hearts. 3.    Those who overcame satan loved not their lives even when faced with death. Even if we die in this war with satan, we have the promise of the crown of life and freedom from the second death. So we exercise Christ's victory over death and become those who cast satan from this earth.   Links:   Open Doors US

Web Description: Christ came into this earth as the Word made flesh. We too, having received of His fullness, must grow by grace until we as members of His body are the fullness of Him who fills all things. We too must become in this age the Word made flesh. That is what will have the power and authority that we need to move in the greater works that He has promised.   Show Notes: How amazing it is that the Word of God is so available to us today! We simply have to pick it up and read it. And that is only possible because of the generations of Jewish and Christian scribes who preserved it by faithfully writing it down. When Moses first inscribed that Word in stone, it came with such glory that his face shone, and he had to hide his face with a veil. Today there is still a glory that manifests in the Bible, the written Word. Yet God is looking for something even greater.   He is looking for a greater glory and a greater manifestation of that Word to be more impactful and effective. God is wanting more than His Word engraved on tablets of stone—something outside of us that we know or study. He wants His Word engraved on the tablets of our hearts until we become, as Christ was, the Word made flesh.   That is what He was looking for when He brought Christ to dwell with us. Something had to express His Word to humanity in such a way that the Word could be implanted in us. And the Word implanted in our hearts is to grow until we are the mature expression of that Word as Christ was. And that is what we reach for. We want Him to write His Word on our hearts by the Spirit. We want the veil removed so that we can behold Him as He is and be transformed into His image.   Key Verses:   •       John 1:14–18. “The Word became flesh, and dwelt among us.” •       John 1:1–5. “He was in the beginning with God. All things came into being through Him.” •       2 Corinthians 3:1–3. “You are a letter of Christ … on tablets of human hearts.” •       2 Corinthians 3:4–18. “We all, with unveiled face … are being transformed into the same image.” •       1 Peter 1:23. “You have been born again … through the living and enduring word of God.” •       Ephesians 4:11–13. “He gave some … to the building up of the body of Christ.” •       John 1:16. “Of His fullness we have all received, and grace upon grace.” •       Ephesians 1:18–23. “The church, which is His body, the fullness of Him who fills all in all.”   Quotes:   •       “Even what Moses did—as tremendous as it was being the expression to write that Word, to speak that Word, to give that that Word to the children of Israel—the power was not there to release mankind into being likewise this expression of the Word of God.” •       “He is not looking for us to be teachers of the Word, to be scholars of the Word, to be believers in the Word, to be those who are witnesses by testimony of that Word; He's looking for us to be as Christ was.” •       “He was the Word made flesh; and we likewise are to attain to that knowledge of the Son of God, to that mature man, to that measure of stature which belonged to Him. We're to come into His fullness.”   Takeaways:   1.    God created the heavens and the earth by His Word. Then He gave His Word to Moses to speak to the sons of Israel. Since then God's Word has been recorded and preserved. So we have the Word of God. But something had to express the Word of God to humanity in such a way that the Word could be implanted in us. That is why God gave us His Son, who was the Word made flesh. 2.    When we understand this, we understand what Christ really was. And then we can begin to understand what it is God is looking to impart through Christ manifesting as that Word of God. He is looking for the Word implanted in us to grow until each of us likewise becomes the Word made flesh. 3.    The reason for the Church and the ministries God gave to the Church is to build up the Body of Christ until we grow into a mature man, to the measure of the stature that belongs to the fullness of Christ.

Get Organized for Good with Corinne Morahan: Maximize Your Productivity, Cultivate Purposeful Habits and Have More Fun!

“You don't have to pass a test. Everyone can outsource,” says host Corinne Morahan on today's episode of Get Organized for Good where she discusses outsourcing household tasks, “You, my friend, are in charge.” If you're interested in taking some tasks off of your plate but are nervous about giving up control of those tasks to a professional, Corinne is here to show you how you can use that friction to your advantage–as well as to the advantage of the person whom you hire!   If, like Corinne, you are very particular about even the most minute details of your home, you need to train your housekeeper or house cleaner like you would at any other job or company. You'll learn how you balance trusting a cleaner's expertise without expecting them to read your mind or creating more work for yourself. You'll also hear about what Corinne outsources in her own home and how–with dedication and some sacrifice–she makes it all work.    Everyone is entitled to a little help. Today's conversation will help you to learn how you can make task outsourcing work best for you. Quotes “Even if you are a stay-at-home mom and you would be the only one doing this and you don't have a partner that would share it with you, you are still entitled to do this. If you do have a partner, you are entitled to do this. If you work outside the home, you are entitled to do this. You don't have to pass a test. Everyone can outsource.” (3:00 | Corinne Morahan) “Here's the thing that I think a lot of people don't realize: you can't just outsource and cross your fingers and hope for the best. You, my friend, are in charge of making sure that outsourcing goes in a way that meets your needs.” (4:09 | Corinne Morahan) “What I don't want to do is come home on a day that I've had a housekeeper or house cleaner here and have to go around and put things away. I don't want to do that. That's just then adding another friction point. So the way around that is to train the people who are working for you like you would if you were hiring someone in an office role. You'd train them on their roles and responsibilities. It's the same thing. You get to be as particular as you want.” (6:42 | Corinne Morahan)  “Nobody whom you hire is a mind reader. They will be bringing their expertise. They will use their systems to it—as they should. You don't need to tell them what to be doing in terms of getting the tasks done…but you then get to layer on top of that your specificities. What do you want to see? How do you want it done? They don't know. They are not a mind reader?” (7:42 | Corinne Morahan) Links You can download your free Sunday Reset Kickstarter list here:  gridandglam.com/sundayreset   Connect With Corinne: https://www.gridandglam.com/ https://www.corinnemorahan.com/ https://www.instagram.com/gridandglam/ https://www.instagram.com/corinnemorahan/ https://www.linkedin.com/in/corinnemorahan/ https://www.facebook.com/gridandglam https://www.youtube.com/@gridandglam1 Podcast production and show notes provided by HiveCast.fm

A.B. Ridgeway tackles the conventional wisdom of saving more and spending less as a surefire strategy for retirement. Through historical analysis and personal anecdotes, he underscores how modern financial challenges—such as high inflation, increased debt, and lower savings interest rates—demand a more nuanced approach. Ridgeway explores the pitfalls of relying solely on savings accounts and offers actionable advice on smarter investment strategies that can help secure a more stable financial future.Historical Context of Savings: Ridgeway explains how the high-interest savings accounts of the 1980s are a thing of the past. With modern savings rates often below 0.1%, the money saved is effectively losing value due to inflation, making it critical to find better investment opportunities.Impact of Inflation: Inflation erodes purchasing power over time. For example, candy costing $20 in 1997 would now cost $39.10. Ridgeway highlights that the same principle applies to money saved for the long term, urging listeners to consider investments that can outpace inflation.Debt and Financial Health: The average American debt is over $104,000, which adds another layer of financial burden. High debt levels mean paying more over time due to interest, which further diminishes the effectiveness of savings as a wealth-building strategy.Limitations of Savings Accounts: While savings accounts are useful for short-term goals and emergency funds, they are inadequate for long-term financial planning. Ridgeway recommends limiting savings to 6-9 months of expenses and using other vehicles like brokerage accounts and IRAs for long-term growth.Importance of Strategic Investing: To combat the adverse effects of inflation and ensure sufficient funds for retirement, Ridgeway advises diversifying investments. He suggests setting up retirement accounts and brokerage accounts online, taking advantage of higher potential returns compared to traditional savings accounts.Quotes:"Even when you are saving, you are losing. Saving money in a savings account was prime advice back then, but now could be the downfall of your family's legacy.""A savings account is great for short-term purchases and emergency funds, but when it comes to your long-term money, you're going to have to be a lot smarter than that.""Retirement accounts are easier than ever to set up. You can do it from the convenience of your own home, and there are many online options that offer better returns than savings accounts."

In this week's episode of the Seven Figure Consultant Podcast, I interview cosmetic dentist turned world-renowned emotional health advocate and human connection expert, Dr Neeta Bhushan. We dive deep into her remarkable shift from the world of cosmetic dentistry to becoming a passionate advocate for emotional health. We discussed the essence of resilience, the profound impact of trauma on one's path to success, and the critical importance of putting our emotional well-being at the forefront. Neeta opens up about her own personal battles, including the profound losses within her family, and shares her transformative journey towards healing. Our conversation dares to challenge the conventional wisdom on resilience, calling for a fresh perspective that embraces vulnerability and self-compassion.    In this episode:  [00:00:23] Neeta shares her journey from a traumatic past to becoming a resilient emotional health advocate and author. [00:03:23] Growing up, Neeta felt the pressure to be strong and successful, leading her to achieve outward success while coping with personal struggles. [00:06:56] We discuss the problematic use of the word "resilient" and the unrealistic expectations it creates, especially for women in corporate jobs. [00:11:34] Reframing resilience as flexibility and agility, emphasising the importance of prioritising mental health and well-being. [00:14:53] The common tendency for trauma survivors to become high achievers as a coping mechanism, leading to burnout. [00:17:42] The four pillars of resilience and the importance of making peace with the past. [00:19:06] Embracing the feminine self and taking a slower, more creative approach to life. [00:22:01] Neeta encourages embracing emotions and provides tools for acknowledging and releasing them. [00:25:01] Allowing yourself to experience and release emotions. [00:26:59] Reclaiming resilience and losing the fear of big emotions.   Key Takeaways:  Neeta emphasised the need to shift our perspective, to understand that resilience isn't about being hard or unyielding - it's about allowing ourselves to be soft, playful, and to extend grace to ourselves. It's a powerful redefinition that challenges the conventional narrative and encourages us to embrace our vulnerability. Emotional well-being is crucial for overall health. Healing is accessible to all, even amidst the most challenging circumstances. Neeta and I discussed the significance of normalising conversations about emotional health and the transformative power of acknowledging and addressing our personal struggles. Healing is a journey that doesn't have to be undertaken alone. Neeta encourages listeners to seek help when needed and to support one another in the pursuit of emotional well-being.   Quotes:  "Even though on the outside I felt like I had everything, yet on the inside I was broken. On the inside, I needed to say three words, and those three words would literally forever change my world and kind of bring us to me sitting before you today, and that was ‘I need help'. And I never thought somebody so strong, so resilient, so accomplished would ever need to say those three words. But that was the hallmark of this next new chapter.” - Dr Neeta Bhushan “It's really common, isn't it, for us to show up as high achievers because we are running from pain of some kind. … It's been fascinating for me to observe that so often trauma does lead to this focus on perfectionism, high attainment. Leading a life which from the outside is very impressive to other people.” - Jessica Fearnley   Useful Links Neeta:  Neeta's Website - www.neetabhushan.com Neeta's Book: That Sucked. Discovery calls are a vital tool for making your practice stronger. In this episode Dr. Lara Salyer explores the power of discovery calls in healthcare, and shares how they can be a tool for connecting with potential patients, especially for a provider in a community where functional medicine is yet to gain ground.   Dr. Salyer explains how aligning discovery calls with core values like education, transparency, autonomy, and efficiency can transform patient engagement. She uses her website as an example, showing how these values, integrated into pre-education materials, help potential patients grasp her approach even before they make the first call.   The episode then guides listeners through a strategic sequence of questions based on the Prochaska model of behavior change, starting with identifying the patient's primary medical challenges and goals. Dr. Salyer highlights the significance of understanding past strategies that patients have found beneficial, offering insights into their readiness for change.   Further, she probes into why patients believe a holistic medical approach suits them and why they think it's the right time for this shift. These questions aim to unearth the patients' motivations and readiness for embracing a new healthcare journey. The discussion also includes assessing patients' current prescription medications, providing a complete picture of their health status.   One innovative concept introduced in this episode is the feedback survey for discovery calls that don't lead to patient conversions. Dr. Salyer emphasizes the value of understanding why a potential patient might say no, using this as an opportunity to refine the approach and address any barriers to conversion.   This episode is packed with practical resources and advice for practitioners to enhance their discovery call techniques and boost patient conversion rates, grow your practice and amplify your reach.  If you like this content and you want more information like this, explore Dr. Salyer's Streamline Course. Quotes: • “Even the thought of doing a discovery call prickles many healthcare practitioners because at our heart, we aren't salespeople. And we feel that health care is a right. Health care is a necessity. We just want to serve. So why would we want to get on a discovery call that just feels incongruent with our values?” (1:42 | Dr. Lara Salyer) • “You need to ask for and provide a feedback survey for those discovery calls that didn't convert. In fact, I recommend a lot of communication.” (10:57 | Dr. Lara Salyer) • “Read those feedback surveys when you're feeling in your wise mind and you're feeling stable. Today's podcast guest is proof that one great idea can change everything. Jimmy Gould is an entrepreneur and inventor who left behind a lucrative career in finance to develop a simple solution with a profound impact. His patented product, SoapStandle, is a tool that attaches to bar soap and elevates it to allow better airflow and extends its life by up to 30%  – all while preventing slippery messes in the shower.  Since founding his company in 2018, Jimmy has now sold nearly one million SoapStandles. In this episode, he shares his experience with product development and the ins and outs of running a successful product-based business. Landing on a great product idea Jimmy was enjoying a successful career in finance when he stumbled – literally – onto the idea for SoapStandle. After dropping his soap in the shower one too many times, he decided to invent a solution himself. The first SoapStandle prototype was built from modeling clay. Jimmy was amazed to discover that his invention not only prevented the soap from becoming slippery but also extended the lifetime of each bar by 20-30%. Soon he was 3D printing duplicate products for his friends. The first batch of products got great feedback, and when Jimmy couldn't find any companies doing something similar, he decided to patent his idea. What began as a side business – with Jimmy 3D printing products out of his garage and sanding each SoapStandle by hand – soon became a legitimate company. With over 100K SoapStandles purchased to date, the brand has had great success marketing directly to consumers on Amazon and their website. They're now looking to expand into retail and partner with more businesses that have bars to sell. Traits of a successful entrepreneur Although Jimmy's prior experience in commission-based sales prepared him for the risks of starting a company, there was still a fair amount of learning on the job. As any founder knows, you need to wear many different hats – from marketing to manufacturing, legal, operations, and more.  Now that the business has grown to the multi-six-figure mark in annual revenue, Jimmy is refocusing his attention on what he does best: sales. At this stage, that's what will keep the company growing, and Jimmy intends to devote more of his time to selling while he considers the possibility of hiring a full-time salesperson. He reminds us that without an effective sales engine, the rest of your business will fall apart.  While sales is an essential skill for all entrepreneurs, there are also several personality traits that Jimmy credits for his success. Optimism is essential – especially when you get tired of hearing “no” over and over again. Jimmy is quick to point out that every no gets you one step closer to a yes. Curiosity is equally as important, especially for anyone in product development.  Choosing your growth channel When starting a product-based business (or any business), you need to consider which channels will be most effective for reaching customers. SoapStandle has been very successful selling direct-to-consumer – other products may do better in wholesale or retail. One method that's worked well for SoapStandle is partnering with other soap bar providers like Dr. Squatch Soaps. If you're looking for new avenues to sell your product, consider partnering with businesses that serve a similar market. As the business continues to grow, SoapStandle is now looking to expand into new markets – at home in the US and around the world. Tune into this conversation with Jimmy Gould to hear the full story… Quotes “Even as a little kid, I tried to figure stuff out. If I was supposed to cut the grass every week, I thought there must be an easier way to do this. I would look for patterns to save myself 10 minutes.” “Because it's a patented product, I can exercise on pricing a bit more. That's worked over the past few years as far as scaling into producing more and selling more. If those margins weren't as good, it would have been much more difficult to do.” “If we don't manage the sales process correctly, then all this other stuff doesn't matter.” “Soap is used all over the world. There's nothing national or regional about using our product. People in South America will find it just as useful as people here do.” “We're trying to be flexible. I don't want to spread myself too thin, but I think it can succeed on each of those levels. There's no reason why we can't sell direct-to-consumer and also be in Target and also have partnerships.” Links mentioned in this episode: Visit the website for SoapStandle: https://www.soapstandle.com/  Check out SoapStandle on Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/stores/SoapStandle/page/0704B651-94C8-41F8-BF6B-A281DB006935?ref_=ast_bln  Connect with Jimmy Gould on LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/company/soapstandle/about/  More industry articles and facts about bar soap: barsoapinfo.com

Have you ever imagined a world where the air we breathe, the water we drink, and the food we eat could potentially harm us? The reality is, we have become acclimated to a toxic environment without even realizing it. Our bodies are constantly exposed to harmful chemicals, pollutants, and heavy metals, leading to various health problems that we may not have previously attributed to our surroundings.  Today, we are so fortunate to have Ryan Blaser, CEO of Test My Home, to raise awareness about the importance of testing for environmental toxins in the home. He talks about the concept of a "toxic bucket," different capacities for detoxifying, the four main pillars of health, and so much more. Don't miss this exciting episode of the Future Generations Podcast with your host, Dr Stanton Hom! Quotes: "Even though you might not be sick from your home, your home could be decreasing your quality of life." – Ryan Blaser "If you're not feeling well in your house, that's a huge red flag that you have something going on in your house." – Ryan Blaser "I think it's about waking people up. We need to pay attention to our food, air, water, and everything in the media, we see a lot of crazy stuff going on. And we need to open our minds and be mindful of that." – Ryan Blaser Key Takeaways: Indoor environments are often synthetic and replicated, and we may not be getting the benefits of nature.  Government agencies may not always prioritize protecting the public from toxic materials in buildings and the environment. Over the past few hundred years, there has been a significant increase in the number of chemicals in the air and consumer products. Our bodies are designed to detox and eliminate toxins, but the problem is we are overloading our bodies with toxins through our environment and lifestyle. Highlights/Timeline: [11:03] – Why did Ryan start his business? [11:56] – What are the common problems the industry is facing? [18:50] – Ryan shares the six categories of environmental factors that building biologists should be experts in [21:48] – What does mold do to a person and the environment? [33:34] – How important is clean water? [37:26] – What is EMF, and how are people affected? [46:42] – Ryan talks about the mission and purpose of his company and what he thinks of the future generations   Conclusion: It's essential to be mindful of the indoor environment we live in and the potential health hazards it may pose. Neglecting the quality of our indoor environment could lead to long-term health problems, and it's up to us to take action and ensure our living spaces are safe and healthy. By being aware and cautious, we can take proactive measures to protect ourselves and our loved ones from the potential hazards of indoor environments.   Resources: Learn more about Ryan Blaser on: LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/ryan-blaser-243725a8  Website: https://www.testmyhome.com/    Learn more about Dr Stanton Hom on: LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/stanhomdc  Twitter: https://twitter.com/drstantonhom  Website: https://www.drstantonhom.com/

This week on the Data Futurology podcast we speak to Sanchit Juneja, the Director of Data Science and Machine Learning at Booking.com. Having worked in roles across SE Asia and Africa before landing in his current role in the Netherlands, Juneja has a truly world view of the role of data in business, especially within the context of product development within large enterprises. One of the challenges that large enterprises face with product and data is the question of whether you should build or buy the tools that the organisation uses. As Juneja states, the ideal approach is a holistic one that does focus on speed to market. “You do still want to build things that are strategic and core to your heart,” he said. “However, having access to things that bring you faster to market is important at the end of the day, as you want to unlock business value.” Juneja then shares insights around the skills that it takes to work in product management. Compared with some other areas of data science, it is perhaps not quite as important to be technical (though being “tech aware” is essential). However, those in product management need to be very good at building consensus across the organisation, from executive right through to those that will implement solutions. They also need to be very comfortable with ambiguity and working with the unknown and have an appetite to learn on their feet. Finally, Juneja shares his insights around how he and his team track the value that they're adding to the organisation. Critical in building alignment across the business is the ability to show results, so everyone working in product needs to be able to clearly articulate the gains there. For these insights, and many more in the wide-ranging interview with Juneja, tune into the podcast! Enjoy the show! Thank you to our sponsor, Talent Insights Group! What are what are some of the trade-offs that need to be done in the in the product decisions? 14:30 What is the mindset shift that that you would recommend for people that may be doing ad hoc pieces of work, or a one off? 16:07 What are you most proud of? 17:14 What are some things that you would have done differently? Quotes: · Even if you're a big tech org, you don't necessarily need to build everything yourself. So the build versus buy call is something that is personally on top of your mind, if you're a product leader. There are so many things that are happening, so many core things that if you go on and build it inside your house, it will take you the next six months. But if you just buy a tool outside in the industry, it will be much quicker for you. I think that is one thing that is always on top of your mind, what to build versus build to buy. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/datafuturology/message

Because God never forgets to bring the sun up, and He's not going to forget about us.” - Emily Ley “There have been times in my life where God has taught me there's some things you can't do anything about and you just have to keep putting one foot in front of the other. You just have to keep waking up every morning remembering what's true and what's not true and keep going.” - Emily Ley “He's truly showing us who He is. And it doesn't always mean that He's going to fix our problems right away. Sometimes He needs us to walk through them with Him. Marrying business and medicine is what this podcast is all about. Having said that, we bring you Dr. Alice Zheng, the woman whose entire professional life revolves around business, health, and making these two work well together. Dr. Zheng is a principal at RH Capital, a fund that invests in women's health companies that are bringing innovation, access, and equity. This fund's priorities are maternal health, contraception, and reproductive health, all of which are highly underestimated areas of healthcare. Being a fervent advocate for equity in women's health, Dr. Zheng has dedicated her career to making things better for women in unfavorable conditions. Dr. Alice Zheng has an extremely diverse background. She has extensive experience in global health, clinical medicine, management consulting, and venture capital. Alice holds an MD, MPH, and an MBA, which already makes her a very intriguing character, and she has also trained as a physician. With an all-consuming passion, Dr. Zheng will talk with Rachel and Dr. Dweck about her beginnings in the business world, her undying love for patient care, and her recent endeavors as an investor in the field of women's health. Stay tuned and listen to this superwoman as she talks about her incredible superpowers! You can subscribe or listen to previous episodes of the Busine$$ of the V podcast by clicking here. TOPICS COVERED: How Alice got from medicine to investing and how adventurous and unpredictable her journey has been. While in business school, Dr. Zheng realized she didn't have to be a doctor to make a difference in healthcare, which opened up new opportunities for her. Zheng learned a great deal in a short period while working at McKinsey, which she considers invaluable. Dweck agrees with Alice that OB/GYNs are always activists and they always have some kind of a cause. We learn what fistula is and how women who suffer from this devastating condition are treated in their community. Alice recommends that all OB/GYNs read Medical Bondage, a book that she found extremely eye-opening. Rachel is curious about how Alice's knowledge affects her experience as a patient with the health care system. When deciding where to invest, Dr. Zheng always asks herself, “Is there an unmet need here?” There are several female-specific health issues where clinicians are simply not trained and informed enough. According to Dr. Zheng, many innovations are happening in other healthcare branches, but women's health does not seem to get this kind of attention. Dweck emphasizes the impossibility of simply applying what we know about men's health to issues concerning women's health. We learn whether changes such as the Kaiser system or Amazon's acquisition of One Medical have resulted in the desired outcomes. In the United Kingdom, a new strategy for women's health and care delivery has been implemented, which indicates that the government is actively working to improve women's healthcare delivery. According to Rachel, many entrepreneurs only focus on one aspect of women's health because they cannot fix the entire system. Women's health is very complex and it cannot be addressed all at once. RH Capital, the fund where Alice works, focuses solely on conditions that affect women only, with a particular emphasis on contraception and maternal health. Zheng highlights that black and brown women in America have disproportionately poor outcomes when it comes to maternal health. HOT FLASH: According to the U.S. Department of Labor, women make 80% of healthcare decisions in the United States. This is very important because these decisions can lead women to have a very significant impact on the health of the entire family.   QUOTES: “Even though I grew up in a sheltered suburb of Detroit, I had this passion for wanting to make an impact firsthand.” (Dr. Zheng) “I have to chuckle at something you said about OB/GYNs always being activists with some sort of a cause. That's why we're up all night. We have to find something to do with every minute of the day.” (Dr. Dweck) “Fistula is a very devastating event that can occur for a woman. Things may come out of the vagina that are not necessarily meant to, and this can be stifling for women in different communities.” (Dr. Dweck) “Racist history behind modern OB/GYN is something that was never talked about when I was a medical student, and I don't think my colleagues who are in OB/GYN today have had much exposure.” (Dr. Zheng) “You're taking a look from 10,000 feet and providing strategy and direction. You have a public health degree. You're a doctor, you're now an investor. You've been a patient. That's a lot of knowledge to carry around.” (Rachel) “There was a time when women's health was thought of even more as a niche and was underinvested and underserved. I think the times are changing.” (Dr. Zheng) “For example, menopause is an area where there are large patient numbers, all women go through it, and yet we don't have great clinical understanding.” (Dr. Zheng) “Women's health isn't just about female body parts. It's about the health of women.” (Dr. Zheng) “We cannot necessarily take the learning that we have about men's heart attacks and just apply it to women. There is a boundless unmet need in female-specific and non-female specific issues.” (Dr. Dweck) “If a woman has a concern, a condition, or a disease, it affects multiple systems in her body. You need to have access to care. It has to be affordable. It's so complex that it feels almost immovable.” (Rachel)   FURTHER RESOURCES: RH Capital: www.rhiaventures.org/rhcapital/ Alice @LinkedIn LINKS FOR BUSINE$$ OF THE V: Website: www.businessofthev.com Dr. Alyssa Dweck: https://drdweck.com Rachel Braun Scherl: www.sparksolutionsforgrowth.com/about-rachel-braun-scherl/

It was both an eye-opening and tremendous learning experience, but it was also very infuriating and frustrating because I saw incredible women who had amazing life stories and wonderful dreams that they wanted to do, yet they were limited financially because of where they lived.” (04:55-05:35 | Rahama) • “You wanted to start a product to first solve a social problem and not to solve a problem for the end-user of the product.” (09:47-10:01 | Lindsay) • “I don't want to sell a product that's not giving women the ability to be financially free.” (15:24-15:28 | Rahama) • “We have to normalize founders being empowered to feel deserving of the funding that comes to them.” (26:21-26:29 | Rahama) • “I need to have incredible brands around me and founders who value the same ethos that I do, and the best way to do that is to create a community of those people.” (51:07-51:17 | Rahama) Connect with Rahama Wright: Use the code FOUNDHER20 for 20% off sitewide at Shea Yeleen! www.sheayeleen.com www.instagram.com/sheayeleen https://www.instagram.com/rahamawright/ Please don't forget to rate, comment, and subscribe. How you treat your dog and others is directly informed by who you are. So, the next important question is, are you simply “who you are” or “who you truly want to be?” The difference between the two lies in your genuine heart's desires — what do you value? What qualities are actually important to you? The answer to these questions fuels your conscious intention to be the person you've always wanted to be. In this episode of the Enlightened by Dogs podcast, Kathy discusses how understanding what's important to you feeds into your relationship with your dogs, and others. She also shares simple prompts and contemplation exercises to get you started on the journey to discovering if you're authentically you. In this episode: How understanding your core values impacts your partnership with your dog How to be intentional about your desires Kathy shares simple contemplation exercises for discovering your heart's desires Quotes: “Even with structured dos and don'ts, the effectiveness and results of what we do, and how our dog responds to that, is directly impacted by who we are when we are doing these things.” “Whatever we think about the most, believe in the strongest, or imagine the most vividly becomes our experience — that's just the law of resonance.” “Get more intentional with what you want to create in your life.” Want More of Kathy? The Emotional Side of Real Estate with Eric Smilay

Welcome to Pushing Dirt, where host Camilla Rantsen discusses all things real estate. On the inaugural episode, Camilla chats with real estate agent Eric Smilay about the constantly changing world of Los Angeles real estate and the emotions that come with it.  A lot has changed since Eric first began his real estate career in 2005. The Eastside has risen in popularity, styles have changed, and there is an increasing desire for walkable, New York-style neighborhoods. However, Eric and Camilla agree that one thing remains constant: “real estate is an investment, but it's emotional.” Tune into this week's episode of Pushing Dirt for an enlightening conversation on Los Angeles real estate trends, the realtor/client relationship, and how our houses frame our lives. Through Eric's astute market observations, discover what is important to you on the search for the perfect home.   Quotes • “Even if I sell you a house today, there's 30 to 45 days and a myriad of ways that could fall apart, right? There's inspections, appraisals, getting the loan – so you want to have somebody that can walk you through it….Some people are very patient and they're willing to hold your hand and go line by line to the contract if you want, and then other people will get frustrated. So you got to matchmake with the right agent, just like the right house.” (14:19-14:40) • “So I think a lot of people need to not only take the price into account, but the interest rates and the lending market as well. That's very key. So, that's still fueling real estate right now.” (23:32 - 23:39) • “I do think that is a little bit of the future of LA real estate: going more vertical, more dense, you know, more walkable neighborhoods, more New York style. Hollywood's doing that a lot with mixed use buildings. Where, you know, there's a coffee shop right downstairs, maybe a dry cleaner around the corner. You literally can walk more.” (34:46 - 35:06) • “I just think that rentals are always going to go up. Like, that market is always going to go up. But real estate is an investment, but it's emotional.” (37:45 - 37:54) • “You are really everything as a realtor. Like, you're an actual agent...and you are a therapist, and you're also probably the person who's almost like a parent, you can't have it. It's a very interesting thing. And I think that's why we get so involved and emotional, and it's a lot of money, but then it's also where we're going to live and have our lives, you know, the framing for our lives.” (52:27 - 53:00)   Connect with Eric Smilay https://www.smilayproperties.com/ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/SmilayProperties IG: https://www.instagram.com/esmilay/   Connect with Host Camilla Rantsen IG: @camillarantsen LinkedIn: Camilla Outzen Rantsen Facebook: Camilla Outzen Rantsen  TikTok: @camillarantsen Twitter @camillarantsen   Podcast production and show notes provided by HiveCast.fm

We had to bring Naomi back because so many of you reached out asking for more from her! She left us with so many questions after our first episode together. If you haven't listened to that episode yet, do!! This one will not make much sense if you don't.Naomi's original motivators to lose weight did not work in the long term. This was partly because they were all about avoiding something negative, not about gaining a positive (“I want to lose weight so I won't be judged by strangers” vs “I want to lose weight so I can run around with my children”). The people surrounding her encouraged her to change focus. She calls these people her “team.” This includes not only her friends, colleagues, and family but also podcasters whom she listens to and authors she reads regularly, but has never met.Naomi has developed many new habits over the last three years. The only way she has been successful in any of them is that she made one small change at a time and committed to being consistent at it for a few weeks before adding anything else. And as she saw the benefits of those commitments, they became easier to stick to because she knows how they positively affect her life and the life of her community.Instead of getting caught up in how hard a practice is to do, she focuses on how good it will be to have accomplished it. Our bodies are capable of more than we often give them credit for. If we don't have a medical condition or disability, there's no reason we can't accomplish the same feats someone else has. Even if you do have limitations, there's often a way around the obstacles. We just have to tell our bodies it is possible. The important thing to remember in all of this is that we always have a choice. We can choose to see what's positive in our situation. We can choose to accomplish our goals. We can choose to step away from negative influences.A powerful practice Naomi implements is declaring her desires as if they have already come to fruition. Every day, she says them to herself in the mirror. If she has a more short-term goal, she will write it out and say it 50 times every day for up to five days until it becomes her reality. So far, she's never done this with something that hasn't happened. It is important to select realistic goals for this practice. Don't set yourself up for failure. Break up huge goals into smaller steps and do this for each one.Everyone's path to health looks different. A positive mindset is essential for whatever goals or desires we are chasing, but the practices, communities, and medical interventions we use to embrace positivity and reach our destinations will differ from person to person. We each must give different methods a chance until we find what leads us to peace and health.Thank you for listening to Hope to Recharge! if we are important to you, help us out and Leave us a review on iTunes. As we wrap up this series on Bad Ass Business Women I encourage you to ask yourself: Am I choosing job security over freedom and fulfilment. Karette would tell you that the security you are holding onto so tightly is only perceived. When the job you have is actually contributing to the deterioration of your mental, emotional and physical health you might want to revisit why you are still there. Another little note is we need to break down the hierarchy of professions. We are under the impression that professions that are obtained through universities carry more importance than vocations and trades. However, if we expand our dreams we would realise that a vocation/trade can be an empire.  Karette is the Founder of VirtualKarette VA Services. Karette's career as an Executive Assistant started in 2013 within the public sector. She then decided to pursue her dream four years later of setting up a VA service. Karette is proud to be the founder of VirtualKarette VA Services and is passionate about helping entrepreneurs build a business empire and create a legacy they are proud of. Entrepreneurship is a journey, not a destination and so, should be enjoyed. It is to this end that Karette and her team seek to support clients – to be a ‘partner in success'. In her spare time, Karette supports young entrepreneurs through mentoring. Karette believes in investing in the next generation of entrepreneurs and does so through her work with a number of social enterprises. How many times do we feel ragged and burned out? Broken and basically just a hot mess? Yet we believe we need to suck it up and show up in front of God with a smile plastered on our faces like everything is hunky-dory? Our next guest, Ellie Holcomb, has a conversation with us about taking on grit, grounding ourselves in God's truth, and showing up as we are.   About our guest:  Ellie Holcomb, a Nashville native, began her musical career by touring the country with her husband. After eight years, and with the birth of their daughter, Ellie opted to step out of the role of heavy touring. From that space came her debut solo album, As Sure As The Sun, which charted at no. 1 on the iTunes Christian chart and helped deem Holcomb the “Best New Artist” at the 2014 Dove Awards. She has released multiple albums since then and also a best-selling book. Ellie, her husband, and their three children live and make music in Nashville.   Notes and Quotes: “Even growing up in this amazing, vibrant community, I gathered that the gospel was all about me being good enough and loving God and loving people enough. And that is all good and well, but that's not really the gospel.” “The gospel is not about making bad people good people. It's about making dead people alive people.” “I didn't know it was okay to not be okay.” “The church isn't meant to be a trophy room. It's supposed to be a hospital and a table that everyone is welcome to.” “I know that God is a healer . . . but I was too scared to give Him my broken heart.” “God's Word gave us solid ground to stand on when the shame storm starts to roll in.” “He started changing us, and it didn't change our circumstances, but it started changing us from the inside out.” “I know God is real from the sorrow in my life.” “God is with you. You don’t have to resign yourself to a loss of libido, desire, and sexual pleasure as you age. Susan Bratton, Intimacy Wellness Expert, joins me to talk about how you can start improving your hormones, increase your libido, and increase your vagina’s natural lubrication once again.   You might find sexual intercourse painful because of: Lack of or Low Libido Loss of Desire Low Levels of Arousal   About Susan Bratton Susan Bratton, Intimacy Wellness Expert is a champion and advocate for all those who desire intimacy and passion their whole long life. She is the best-selling author and publisher of lovemaking techniques, bedroom communication skills, and sexual vitality advice including Sexual Soulmates, Relationship Magic, Revive Her Drive, Ravish Him, The Steamy Sex Ed™️ Video Collection, Hormone Balancing, The Pump Guide, and Thrust-In-Time.  These are examples of the exciting variety of her 34 books and programs. Susan is an expert in intimate wellness, sexual regenerative protocols, and ageless sexuality.  You can find the Susan Bratton Show®️ on BetterLover.com, her more personal posts on Instagram, and her new sexual vitality supplements, Flow, Boost, Desire, and Drive at The20store.com.   Why We Experience Pain and Dryness Susan Bratton brings her wealth of knowledge about sexual intimacy and health for a very open and honest conversation that I think we all need to hear. She starts by explaining why so many women experience pain, discomfort, and vaginal dryness as they age. Hormones absolutely play a role in your sexual health and it’s essential that you start rebuilding your reserves. Susan shares some of her preferred techniques for increasing your hormones to improve not just your sexual health, but your overall health. It might surprise you to learn it’s not just down to your hormones. Your libido, arousal, and desire are all linked to sexual pleasure. If you’re experiencing dryness or pain, Susan recommends exploring alternatives to hormone replacement therapy to improve these areas of your sexual health.   How to Improve Your Libido One of the best things you can do to improve your sexual health is to take supplements. Susan shares her recommendations and explains why she actually started her own range of sexual health supplements. She says that at the very least, you should be taking a daily multivitamin. While you’re naturally increasing your body’s lubrication, you can use other types of lubricants to make sex more pleasurable for you. Susan explains what types of lubricants you should look for; her biggest takeaway is to look for ones that you can actually eat yourself - like avocado or almond oil. Susan also says why we shouldn’t use something like coconut or olive oil as a lubricant. Finally, we talk about some of the ways to improve your vaginal or penile tissue that will naturally loosen as you age. Susan explains some of the techniques she’s used, such as the V-Fit device, PRP injections, and O-Shots (and the P-Shot for men). What concerns do you have about your own sexual health and libido? Have you started eating more beetroot and leafy greens? Let me know in the comments on the episode page.   Quotes “Even though how lubricated we are is not correlated with how aroused we are, in our feeling in our body, it is, for a lot of us. We could be really turned on and dry as a bone if we don’t have enough nitric oxide or we could be really, really wet if we have!” [16:28] “Don’t buy any lubricant that has any ingredients that you can’t spell.” [30:05] “I had a PRP injection and an O-shot (orgasm shot) and a tear in my vagina finally repaired. Finally, between the V-Fit and the O-Shots, I was able to get my vagina back to feeling youthful and having really nice climaxes again and no painful sex.” [38:55]   In This Episode Why you might be experiencing pain during sexual intercourse [8:00] Why it’s essential to optimize your hormones for ultimate sexual health [10:00] What therapies outside of hormone replacement therapy are available to help women regain their libido [11:15] What supplements you should take to increase your libido [21:00] What type of lubrication you should use [30:00] Some of the ways to repair vaginal and penile tissue [36:45]   Links & Resources Use code MAGNESIUM for 10% off Magnesium Use code LIVERDETOX for 10% off Core Restore   How About 38 Fascinating Facts That Supercharge Your Sex Drive? The world is expanding, and with it, so is our collective and individual consciousness. It’s natural that this level of spiritual expansion carries fear with it. It’s possible to overcome these fears through understanding and a simple ask. About Overcoming Fears Around Spiritual Expansion We are in a time of massive soul growth and expansion. I don’t know about you, but the beginning of this year has me reeling from spiritual and soul growth, in nearly constant communication with my guides and with Source. It’s a time of great wonder, but this growth is often laced with fear. 2021 will see two groups of people emerging in this expansive time. Those lightworkers and others who are open to experiencing this growth, and those who feel the fear and choose to ignore the growth. Who will you choose to be? It’s so important for you to know and understand that it is absolutely okay for you to feel fear at the possibility of soul and spiritual growth. We are stepping into unknown waters, this is entirely new territory. And trust me when I say that all of us lightworkers are feeling some level of fear in this expansion process. Not only are we in an era of immense growth, but we are also unlocking so many gifts and possibilities in our own lives. If you’re anything like me, you will start to wonder if any of it is real. Of course, you will, because we’ve grown up in a world and been indoctrinated into believing that these unseen arts are untrue and evil. I want you to know that you have not lost your mind. I also want you to know that you absolutely have gifts, even if you haven’t unlocked them yet. There is no one else that can share these gifts the way that you do. The other aspect you’ll likely question, because I know I did, is whether the thoughts you have are your own or downloads from Spirit. I actually asked my guides about this and was told that there is actually no difference. Your thoughts are divinely directed; if it lights you up and makes you feel excited and exhilarated, it is a download from Spirit. Finally, I want you to know that you can ask your guides to release your fears about expansion. Your guide wants you to be open and without fear and they will, one hundred per cent, help you. All you need to do is ask. What did life look for you before you started to question everything in life and reality? Let me know in the comments, lovely! In This Episode Why soul grow often brings fears of expansion [7:30] What two types of people will emerge in 2021 [12:00] Why it’s okay to feel the fear of expansion right now [16:00] How spiritual doubt will inevitably creep into your thoughts [22:15] How to differentiate between your own thoughts and downloads from Spirit [23:30] What happens when you ask your guides to release your fears about expansion [28:30] Quotes “Even though we know that we’re going home, even though we know that the world is opening up and becoming a better place, even though we know that there’s purge and there’s crumbling and it’s necessary, we also do feel fear. We’re human. We’re going through the biggest transition the world has ever gone through, with us on it, in our lifetime. And none of us fully know what’s going to happen. We’re just continuously trusting.” [13:03] “I want to throw it out there to validate and to let anyone know who’s listening if you’re feeling any of these things, if you’re having experiences happen to you and you’re questioning if it’s real or you’re making it up, wondering if it’s really happening - I want you to know you’re not alone. We are all feeling it.” [22:36] “It is all you. Don’t give your power away by trying to differentiate what is me and what is them, we are all one. Anything that you think of is your thought. Anything that you think of that makes you feel inspired, expansive, excited, love: yes, they’re the thoughts that your guides and Spirit dropped in, but it’s still you who thought and received that thought.” [23:56] Resources Mentioned Join The Soul Savvy Collective Facebook Group (https://www.facebook.com/groups/soulsavvytribe) Find Sarah Flynn Online (https://sarahjflynn.com/) Follow Sarah Flynn on Instagram (https://www.instagram.com/sarahxflynn/) | Facebook (https://www.facebook.com/sarahflynncoaching) | YouTube (https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC1vmQ8rg-xfhHBLvqJ8qzcA) If you liked this episode, please check out some others: Episode 20: 7 Signs You are Spiritually Awakening (https://sarahjflynn.com/episode-20-7-signs-you-are-spiritually-awakening/) Episode 14: Making Space for New Levels of Expansion (https://sarahjflynn.com/episode-14-making-space-for-new-levels-of-expansion/) Episode 26: Accelerating your Soul Growth in 2021 (https://sarahjflynn.com/episode-26-accelerating-your-soul-growth-in-2021/)

My very special guest today is licensed therapist, social worker, and author of REAL: Radical, Empathic Acceptance of Life, Khadijah Tishan Washington. Khadijah is a beautiful spark of contagious energy whose story of struggle and triumph renders her uniquely qualified to help people walk through their past and move through it in a safe and healthy way. She is a generational trauma specialist who has turned her hard life experiences into making a positive impact upon the lives of others, focusing on their self-care and healing. Khadijah begins by sharing her personal history and both her personal and professional involvement in the social work and mental health fields. She also describes the 6PIC Community Center, and delves into some of the major components of her book, particularly the aspects of helping others while she herself was healing, the code-switching which she must employ, and her role as a truth teller, opening the door for others to tell their stories. Khadijah’s work with generational trauma, starting the healing process, and asking those radical questions is also discussed during this fascinating conversation. Clearly, her work is very near and dear to my heart, and, while her message is of course timeless, it is particularly relevant now given recent events throughout our country and the world. I know you will be as amazed and inspired by this incredible woman as I have been, and I strongly encourage you to listen to all she has to teach us both in today’s episode and in her remarkable book. So you’ve decided to quit your job, congratulations! Whether you’re starting your own business or transitioning to a new role somewhere else, there are some guidelines you should follow. In this episode, I’m talking about the ten things I think you should know and do when you’re quitting your job. Whether you love your job or you hate it so much you’d rather do anything but, it’s important for you and your reputation to leave it with grace and dignity. There’d be few things worse than burning bridges that might impact your entire future. These 10 steps will help you leave with your head held high. First, make sure that you actually tell your boss or supervisor that you’re leaving, before you tell anyone else. Workplaces are hotbeds of gossip, so if you start blabbing to your co-workers first, the narrative leaves your hands. Plus, it’s just common courtesy to your supervisor, even if you didn’t see eye to eye. If you have a lot of strong emotions about your job, I always recommend writing a fictional resignation letter - one that doesn’t go beyond your sight. This lets you get out all your feelings of pent out anger or even about how much you loved your job before you approach your supervisor with your real letter. Which you absolutely should do in person, but keep it professional. And in this letter, make sure you’re giving at least two week’s notice - and that you’re working as productively during them. You can be let go for being company dead weight. Finish these week’s out working strong, training your replacement (if possible), writing your job manual, and leave with dignity, knowing you were a model employee for your last two weeks. If you’re transitioning to a new employer or even if you’re going self-employed, don’t bad-mouth your former one. You want to always be able to get a good reference from them. Plus, if you start spouting hate about your old employer, it actually shows a lot more about your character than how they treated you.  Keep all these tips in mind and happy quitting! Are you thinking of leaving your job? Have you written a fictional resignation letter? How do you plan on preserving your reputation when you’re leaving your job?   In This Episode: Why you need to tell your supervisor that you’re quitting before anyone else What power and catharsis comes with writing a fictional resignation letter Why you should always give at least two weeks notice when you resign How to finish your last two weeks working strong and with dignity Why you need to transition from your former employer in the most respectful way possible   Quotes: “Even if you have a horrible experience with an even more horrible boss, keep your resignation letter short, sweet, professional, and to the point.” (12:12) “How you leave your current employer to go work for your new employer makes a big impact on the hiring manager at your new employer. They see it as the exact way how you would leave them.” (14:06) “Remember, you get to leave, but your reputation and the terms you leave on are completely up to you.” (18:52)   Links Freebie: It's Quitting Time | How To Quit Your Job to Start Your Own Company Find Dr. Cortney Baker Online Follow Dr. Cortney Baker on Facebook | Twitter | Instagram | LinkedIn Join From Side Hustle to CEO on Facebook Subscribe to Women in Business on Apple Podcasts   Are you a female millennial entrepreneur who wants to start or scale your service-based business but not sure where to start? Every business owner needs to learn the value of a cold pitch - and above that, how and who to deliver your cold pitches to. Once you have this practice down, business opportunities will really start opening up to you. But if there’s one thing so many women in business are hesitant about: it’s the cold pitch. But you just need to get over it. That fear that’s holding you back from making the cold pitch is preventing your business from growing. I’m telling you the secret to how to get that little negative voice in your head to finally shut up. First of all, you have to decide who you want to work with, be they companies or individuals, that you’re actually going to enjoy working with. This is a big part of why we choose a niche. You want to love what you’re doing and who you’re doing it for. You don’t want to be shouting into the wide expanse of the business world. Not everyone is going to want to work with you - and not everyone should work with you. Plus, you can’t physically pitch to every single business out there. So how do you make the perfect cold pitch? Find those companies you’d love to work with, figure out who is the best person there to make the pitch to, and show them how working with you will benefit them. The pitch is not about you! Finally, we’re talking about what to do when someone says “no” to your cold pitch. Don’t worry, it happens to everyone! But every no is a new opportunity awaiting you. Are you comfortable making a cold pitch? Do you know who you want to work with? How can you stand out from your oversaturated business market? In This Episode: Why you need to just get over it and get the word out about your business How to quiet the negative voice in your head Why you need to work with people and businesses you actually enjoy working with  Who you should send your pitch to Why you shouldn’t pitch every single business you ever come across How you can stand out from an oversaturated market Why your pitch shouldn’t be about you and your business How you can appeal to your cold pitches by showing how you would value the potential client What you should remember when you hear “no” from a potential client Quotes: “Even if your client is a brand or a company, there’s still a person that you’re going to need to get to to pitch.” (4:05) “Work with people in business you’re actually going to enjoy working with. When you enjoy working with them, you’ll perform better, you’ll enjoy it more, your quality of work is better. It’s overall a better experience for both of you.” (4:29) “Don’t market your services with a one-size-fits-all approach. When you’re reaching out to potential businesses to pitch your services, do your research.” (7:40)   “The magic happens in the pitch follow-up. What we're talking about in this episode How to open the door for healing when you feel stuck in a chronic situation The profound powerful benefits of shifting your mindset about your health What you can do to shift your identity around your diagnosis Listening to your own inner wisdom and finding what works for your body Why being curious is one of the most powerful things you can do   Episode Summary Lyn Delmastro-Thomson was given the devastating misdiagnosis of Leukemia at age 25. It took Lyn years to find the real root cause of her issues, and she struggled with linking her chronic illness to her identity. Today Lyn works to help empower others to find a different path with her book, You Are Not Your Diagnosis.  Just because your doctor has said your illness is chronic or incurable, it does not mean it has to be a life sentence. Lyn explains how you can use your mindset and other holistic remedies to find what works best for your body and find true healing instead of symptom management. If you are looking for a wake-up call to start listening to your body and stop ignoring the path you should be on, this episode is it. Lyn is living proof of the power of mindset when it comes to your healing journey and is here to inspire you to find the good in your body and help it grow.  Are you ready to stop linking your chronic illness to your identity? Share what you found most inspiring about Lyn’s story in the comments on the episode page.   Quotes “Even in the midst of the incorrect diagnosis, I started to explore other options because I was just like, nobody here is listening to me, I’m not feeling better, and there have to be other things that I can do to help myself.” (13:06) “How do you even talk about a health condition without saying ‘I have this’? It becomes a whole long sentence to just say ‘I am currently living with this, but I believe my body can heal’. Sometimes I say it that way because I actually cringe every time I say I have this diagnosis.” (20:00) “Yes, I might be currently living with this health challenge, but I am still all the things I was before, I am still all of those other identities.” (21:40) “I needed that illness to wake me up, but yet I wouldn't say I should feel ashamed of that. I was like that's just what needed to happen for me to finally get the message through my thick skull.” (27:45)   Resources Mentioned Get Your 2 Free Chapters Here Heart Fire Healing Website Follow Heart Fire Healing on Facebook | Instagram You Are Not Your Diagnosis by Lyn Delmastro-Thomson Episode #110 with Terry Wahls Get the Essential Oils Hormone Solution Here Follow Dr. Mariza’s Virtual Book Club on Facebook | Instagram   Other Resources: The Essential Oils Hormone Solution by Dr. Mariza Check out the full show notes page Keep up with everything Dr. Mariza Follow Dr. Mariza on Facebook | Instagram | Twitter | Youtube

MoeDeLL joins James for this episode of the dHarmic Evolution podcast to discuss his passion for music and his new album “There It Is”. Growing up in Portsmouth, Virginia, Moe lived with his mom and his grandparents and he remembers there always being music playing in the house: The Eagles, Willie Nelson, Johnny Cash, Fleetwood Mac, and Waylon Jennings to name a few. When he was 9 years old, he started taking private guitar lessons, and the rest is history. While his grandmother is the inspiration for a lot of his songs, he finds that he also writes frequently about his grandfather, though they didn't always get along. For the past 16 years, he has been a full-time Americana musician, currently averaging about 250 shows per year in Minnesota, the Dakotas, Virginia, and the Carolinas. Some gigs are solo, such as house concerts or sets at assisted living facilities, whereas corporate concerts or weddings might be with his full band. Until a few years ago, Moe was a rock'n'roll artist, but he had an epiphany while playing around with the sound of his song “Devil's Lake” that gradually caused him to change his style to Americana. He felt that Americana allowed him to tell more of a story than rock'n'roll. Moe's must-have writing materials are coffee, a pencil, and paper, and he finds that he does his best creating in the morning or while waiting for a show to start. He loves to just fiddle around with new sounds, a practice that began in his childhood when he would mute the television and play his guitar along with what he saw on the screen. His dream job would be to write film scores, but until John Williams calls it quits, Moe will stick to his favorite gigs at assisted living facilities, Cowboy Jacks, and Beaner's. He just joined the Midwest Country Music Association and he looks forward to potentially collaborating with some of his fellow members in the future. Quotes: “Even if it was just my mom listening, I would still get a joy out of writing music.” “I'm infatuated with writing and lyrics and words.” “I didn't feel like my old lyrics really told a story.” “In the morning, you may feel cloudy because you just woke up, but your mind is technically at its most fresh because you haven't had the things of the day stifle you.” “As a musician, you know your place.” “Time has a way of drawing us closer.” Mike Lardy Creative Studio: https://www.facebook.com/mikelardystudio/  Beaner's: https://www.beanerscentral.com/  Midwest Country Music Association: https://www.midwestcma.org/ Follow MoeDeLL: Facebook @MoeDeLLMusic Instagram @moedell Twitter @moedell Spotify https://open.spotify.com/artist/5zP0TH8t4OhGy4dR9RrfpZ Thanks for joining us, and be sure to connect with us on social media! Whether you’ve planned to have kids or not, finding yourself a single parent is not something you set out for with intent. Being a single parent is hard work. And trying to co-parent with your ex can be an even bigger struggle. As a single parent, you’re going to struggle with feelings of shame, guilt, and pain - and the most likely source of these feelings is you. Single parenthood is a struggle that no one’s going to prepare you for and your relationship with your ex is going to be different from anyone else’s relationship with theirs. Co-parenting with your ex isn’t always going to be easy. And having an amicable relationship with your ex isn’t a one person decision. The moment you split, there are two different attitudes to parenting, two different lives, and two different opinions that will all have to be taken into account. In this solo episode, I’m talking about my personal experiences into the crazy hard world of single parenting. I tell you how I knew that my ex wasn’t “the one” and how I wish so much that we had a friendship to fall back to. I’m explaining why it’s so important to get validation from yourself and no one else. Why the other parent to your children is going to fall into their own unique ex category - and how that’s going to impact you for the rest of your life. Perhaps most importantly, I’m talking about forgiveness: why you need to forgive yourself, your ex, and all the other people that will have an opinion on your broken relationship. When my son gave his mother’s day project to his dad’s new partner instead of me, I thought my heart was going to fall out of my chest it was so broken. But thanks to my own dad’s tough attitude, I learned that it’s okay for your children to love other people in their lives. You can’t waste time sitting in shit for a long time - there always comes a point where you just have to move forward. Are you going through a divorce? Do you have children with your ex? How do you talk to your children about love and forgiveness? Leave me a comment on the episode page!   In This Episode: Why it’s so important to be friends with someone you’re going to date What you need to understand about your own self-validation What the different kind of breakups are and how will impact your life going forward Why you need to accept that you will have different parenting styles than your ex How to parent with intention Why you should consider therapy as you go through a divorce How important it is to have good friends when going through separation Why it’s so incredibly important to practice forgiveness Quotes: “Even if you want to be Ned Stark from Game of Thrones, doing the right thing for the right reasons and die with honor - an amicable relationship as a single parent isn’t really a one person decision. It takes two.” (4:35) “My only job in our interaction at this point was to demonstrate and role model parental behavior. Outside of that, friends or not, I’ve done my job.” (6:27) “Becoming a single parent, you’re redefining everything. You’re redefining who you are as a person, as a parent and what life looks like in the aftermath.” (11:24) “Allow people to show as much healthy love to your kids as possible. No matter how much they get on your nerves. And make sure your kids know it’s okay to love them back.” (15:30)   Links Find my website at KimBao.co   If you liked this episode, you should probably check out these past episodes: 018: How To Turn Tragedy Into Fuel For Living Your Best Life w/ Steve Datte 016: How To Build A Stronger You By Working Through Your Trauma w/ Kim Bao 015: The Trauma Of Divorce From The Male Perspective w/ Mike Kim   Come hang out with an amazing group of badass women in a private, supportive community, Bad-Ass Women Owning Sexy Check out the full show notes for this episode! In this episode: Giving yourself grace Self-confirming bias Your feelings ARE valid Tools to get out of your funk Hey girl! I am so happy you are here today because we are talking about something that I think is so relevant, which is pulling yourself out of a funk. We all have these times where we get ourselves into analysis-paralysis or total funky freak out and it is NORMAL. What I have learned, is it's so important to be able to CATCH yourself, acknowledge the feeling and then be aware of HOW to get OUT of that funk. I wanted to share a few tricks that I have put into practice to help pull you out of that funk: Let yourself feel it & acknowledge that you are totally normal. Ask yourself, what is the REAL story? Take action - inaction breeds fear.   Quotes: “Even the happiest people can have off moments, or get funky feeling sometimes, right? And not a good funky.” “It’s okay to not be okay sometimes. It’s okay to freak out, its okay to lose your cool or start crying for some reason that seems really random.” “Nothing that you feel a feeling to cry about, is worth apologizing for. You don’t need to apologize.” “Express the emotion and acknowledge that you are totally normal, nothing is wrong with you girl, you have feelings, you’re human.” “When you want to make a statement that’s about yourself that says you’re not capable, look for all the reasons that you can.” “If you can’t seem to pull yourself out of a funk for yourself, do it for your friend that needs you, for your sister, for your kids, for your coworkers, for your significant other.   Two of the most common holdups potential students have before applying to vet school are how to make sure your application stands out, and whether or not vet school is the right path for you in the first place. Today, Gretchen Delcambre, director of vet school admissions to Colorado State answers everything you need to know before you submit your application to vet school. Gretchen describes the application process, how to set your application apart from the crowd, and why grades aren’t everything. Gretchen focuses on Colorado State’s selection process and the criteria they are looking for, breaks down how they narrow down the 2200 annual candidates, and the importance of hearing the whole story of an applicant. She will put to rest your worries about having a perfect 4.0 GPA, why you should focus on what makes you different and highlights the other things on your application that can be even more important than grades.   In This Episode A breakdown of the vet school application process Why it's not a bad plan to apply to multiple schools The ‘holistic review process’ What it's like to be in a relationship with another veterinarian The importance of experience over grades Perseverance and why you should keep applying even if you don't get in the first few times   Quotes “Even though I didn't know exactly what I wanted to do, it was just going to open more doors. So that's why I jumped into vet med.” (6:49) “When this admissions position came up there was someone who sort of rang the bell and said ‘hey you should really look at this’ and I did and it was the right fit for me because the admissions position, I am really advocating for our profession and needing a diverse group of students coming in to go and fill all the crazy niches in the profession” (23:14) “Part of our holistic process is we can look at stories even within transcripts. We understand that sometimes college is a hard transition for students coming out of high school. So sometimes you might not rock out those A’s and B’s in the first semester or second semester. What we are looking for is those upper division sciences… we are really looking at upper trends towards those last years. It's not about that shiny 4.0 it's more about the growth.” (30:49) “Once you get into vet school, take that pressure off yourself, it's about learning the material not making the grades.” (34:38)   Links Enjoying these stories? As a successful entrepreneur in the sports supplementation industry as well as a wildly successful podcaster, Andy LOVES what he does every day because he’s changing people’s lives. But this wasn’t always the case. A once self-professed fat kid eating Dorito’s who never completed anything, Andy realized he needed to make a change – even if that meant getting uncomfortable to do it. Andy shares his journey with us and opens up to tell us how being stabbed radically changed his perspective on the world and how it also accidentally got him into business. Now he’s able to use his business and platform to make an impact and help others. While you won’t hear Andy mincing words over any naysayers, you will hear him telling it like it is. If you’re looking for permission to do the same and also cut out the negativity in your life, look no further – Andy is walking permission to be REAL.   --      Question Highlights: What do you tell people whose backs aren’t against the wall… How do they get there? This episode is rather strange because it includes five minutes of silence. First, I’ll be talking about meditation for a bit, and then I’ll guide you through a bit of silent meditation. Join me and feel refreshed.   3 Key Takeaways People often say that there is really no downside to meditation other than you have make time for it. Time can get away from you and, without the intention to make time for meditation, you may find that yourself not doing it as often as you would like. Guided meditation can be helpful because someone’s voice is guiding you through. It’s completely natural for thoughts to arise during meditation. You simply acknowledge that they’re there. Watch your thoughts as they come and go and turn your attention to whatever feels right to you.   Quotes “Even simply sitting in silence is its own form of a beautiful meditation.” “A lot of meditation practice has to do with simply setting aside the space to do so.”   Thank you for listening!   Resource Mentioned Meditation Album (Stay tuned and watch out for the release date so you can get a discount coupon code.) People will not always agree with you when you put yourself out there. And I am not infallible. I am a human being and I screw up sometimes. I hope the story I am sharing with you today will uplift and inspire you! Enjoy!   5 Key Takeaways A lot of people who go into business, especially people in online business, who make themselves their brand, there’s often a message that they are either explicitly or implicitly taught, which is that, if you can be controversial in some way, then it’s a good thing. Being controversial can mean a lot of things – you can take that as far as you want to. But controversial can just mean you are digging your heels in with what you believe, and you’re not going to be wishy-washy about any of it. Those people in the business of making themselves their own brand become controversial for two reasons: One, because it may be part of their belief system, and two, because from a marketing perspective, if you can make some waves, any attention is a good attention. Sometimes we have an emotion that’s not positive, and sometimes there’s a lot of pain there. And rather than dealing with it, we escape it and put a band-aid on it and just think that if we’re positive enough our life will change. There’s a lot of healing to be done with sitting with a difficult emotion.   Quotes: "Even the people that like some of what you do are not going to love everything you do, and beyond that, some people are not going to be very forgiving of a mistake you may make.”   “There is a perfection to us that is divine, but there’s also imperfection to us that are humanness, and that’s okay.”   Action Steps Whatever people want to say to you when they don’t agree with you, hold it in a place of respect or love or whatever you need to do, then let it go. Love yourself enough to not let other people’s perceptions of you pull you down. Take it as feedback that’s helpful to you. Don’t let it dissuade you from being who you really want to be in the world. If you have a misstep, own up to it.   Resource Mentioned Stop Trying to Be So Positive   If there is something ringing true for you about a deeper pain that you need to deal with because putting a positive spin on things is not working for you, then connect with me further.
