On The Patrick Madrid Show, Cyra from Alberta called in with a tough but crucial question: who should she and her husband pick as legal guardians for their kids in their will? Her top choice is her sister and brother-in-law: loving, family-oriented, and nearby. But there was a hitch: they’re not practicing Catholics. Her husband, Sebastian, was especially concerned that if their kids ended up in their care, the faith might slowly fade out of their lives: not because of bad intentions, but just because, well, life happens. Cyra, on the other hand, struggled with the idea of choosing someone outside the family. Patrick’s Advice? Faith Comes First! Patrick said that faith should be the number one priority when picking guardians. Sure, family closeness and emotional stability are important, but if the guardians don’t actively practice and prioritize the Catholic faith, then there’s a real risk that the kids could drift away from it over time. Even with the best of intentions, a non-Catholic couple might start strong in raising the kids Catholic, but when it comes to the daily grind: Sunday Mass, sacraments, religious education... things could start slipping. It’s not about doubting their love, but about recognizing human nature. So, What’s the Best Plan? If Catholic family members aren’t an option, Patrick suggested looking for strong Catholic friends or community members who would make raising the kids in the faith a true priority. It’s a big decision, but ultimately, the goal is to ensure that the kids grow up knowing, loving, and practicing their Catholic faith. Get Your Will in Order, For Free! Patrick gave a super useful tip: check out CatholicLegacy.com, a free service from Relevant Radio that helps Catholics create airtight wills that align with their faith. Because let’s be real: none of us like thinking about wills, but it’s way better to be prepared than to leave things to chance. If you’re picking legal guardians, don’t just think about love and familiarity... think about who will make sure your kids get to Heaven.

Long time listeners will recall that in July 2021 Virginia Gay and Robin Goldsworthy appeared on the podcast in anticipation of the opening night of the Melbourne Theatre Company's production of 'Cyrano'. Unfortunately, thanks to a snap lockdown in Melbourne, that season was cancelled at the eleventh hour. This time, I have waited until the play has actually, definitely opened before I get them on to promote it.Seeing it on opening night was truly one of the most exhilarating nights in the theatre I have ever experienced. If you have the chance, I highly recommend going.https://www.mtc.com.au/plays-and-tickets/whats-on/season-2022/cyrano/Support this show http://supporter.acast.com/the-saturday-quiz. Bible Reading: 2 Corinthians 6:3-7"Oh no! This birthday card I'm making for Grandma is all messy," Cyra wailed. "I made a mistake, so I erased a few lines and did them over. I tried to erase carefully, but the page still looks messy.""Well, the mailman will be here soon," said Mom, glancing out the window. "If you want to send that today, you'll probably have to leave it the way it is. I think Grandma will understand." So Cyra reluctantly sealed the envelope and hurried to put it in the mailbox. That afternoon, Cyra looked glum when she came in from playing outside. "Is something wrong, honey?" Mom asked."I don't think Jane likes me anymore," replied Cyra in a trembling voice. "She doesn't want to play with me--I can tell. I don't blame her. I'm sure it's because I got mad and said some mean things to her a couple weeks ago.""Did you apologize and tell her you were sorry?" Mom asked. Cyra nodded. "And what did she say?" asked Mom."She said she forgave me." A tear rolled down Cyra's cheek. "I asked God to forgive me too. He did, didn't He?""Yes, He forgave you," said Mom. "I believe Jane did too, but it may take time before she trusts you again." Mom put an arm around Cyra. "What happened when you made a card for Grandma this morning?"Cyra wrinkled her brow. "I made a mistake and erased part of it.""And how did the page look after you erased those lines?""It…it looked a little messy," answered Cyra."Yes, and life is something like that," Mom told her. "In a way, we're writing pages in our lives, and sometimes we mess up. When we confess our wrongs to Jesus, He graciously forgives us completely. But if our sin hurt someone, it may take time for them to trust us again. To them, that page of our lives may not seem quite the same. When we wrong someone, it often leaves a mark." Mom gave Cyra a hug. "Remember that Jesus has forgiven your sin, and be patient with Jane. Show her that you can be trusted."Cyra sighed. "Okay. I'll show her I want to start over on a fresh page and be a better friend." -Hazel W. MarettHow About You?Have you messed up a page of your life? Confess your sin to Jesus, and also ask anyone you've wronged to forgive you. As far as God is concerned, that sin is totally blotted out. Trust Him to help you live so that the words of today's Bible reading will be true of you also. Be patient with anyone you've offended, remembering that even when others are willing to forgive you, it may take time before they fully trust you again.Today's Key Verse:An offended friend is harder to win back than a fortified city. (NLT) (Proverbs 18:19)Today's Key Thought:Hurts take time to heal
