Enterprise Connect Podcast | Technology Reseller News “We help finance stop wasting money — and help IT teams keep their sanity.” – Alex Duchovny, VP, Intratem At Enterprise Connect 2025, Intratem brought a focused message to IT and finance leaders: technology expense management doesn't have to be complicated — and the return on investment can be nearly instantaneous. In a podcast interview with Technology Reseller News publisher Doug Green, Intratem Vice President Alex Duchovny outlined the company's approach to simplifying the management of mobile, fixed, and cloud technology expenses. By combining hands-on service with customizable software, Intratem gives organizations the tools and support needed to rein in costs, improve transparency, and eliminate waste. From Telecom to Technology Expense Management Intratem began as a service-first organization, helping clients manage the complexities of telecom billing and mobile device provisioning. Today, the company offers a full Technology Expense Management (TEM) platform that supports modern enterprise environments — including subscription-based cloud infrastructure and usage-based billing models. “With the shift to recurring cloud services, many organizations are unaware of how much waste is hiding in their environments,” said Duchovny. “It's easy to spin up cloud services — but harder to manage them effectively. That's where we come in.” Tailored, Curated Solutions Rather than forcing clients into a prebuilt workflow, Intratem takes a curated approach. The company aligns its tools and services with a client's internal processes, offering automation where it makes sense, and hands-on support where it's needed most. “We start by understanding how the organization works — and then build workflows around that,” Duchovny explained. Fast, Measurable Results According to Duchovny, Intratem's value is often felt immediately. On the mobile side, monthly plan optimization delivers savings in the next billing cycle. On the fixed side, audits quickly uncover overcharges and billing anomalies. In the cloud, even simple changes — such as identifying unnecessary weekend compute usage — can create fast financial wins. Integrated Platform with Real Support Intratem continues to expand its platform capabilities while maintaining its core strength: personal service. “We operate like an extension of the IT team,” said Duchovny. “Our goal is to free up internal resources so they can focus on what matters most.” Learn more about Intratem at www.intratem.com

David Duchovny believes he's a writer at heart. And though the Golden Globe-winner has achieved a level of acting success that would seem to eclipse his proficiency in any other art form, he has a point. After developing a love of books in high school, Duchovny was off to Princeton, and then to Yale to pick up an M.A. in English Literature. All this before ever trying his hand at acting, and starring as the enthusiastic Fox Mulder in X-Files. Duchovny has also written five books, including one that grew into the new film Reverse the Curse, in which he also stars. On this week's episode of Table for Two, he sits down with host Bruce Bozzi to discuss his favorite authors, the three celebrities he had to introduce himself to, and the inspiration behind his podcast, Fail Better.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Hey everybody, sorry for the short episode this week.  There was not a ton of meat on the bones for this episode, but the Forbidden Crew are refusing to pull a Duchovny and phone it in this week. We have the story of a photojournalist doing a story on "up market" sex workers who make $1500 a night.  This one reads more like a psychological thriller where everyone is stalking everyone.  Zack actually thinks he could work this into a thriller.  We have a lady spying on sex, lots of red neckwear, so many still shots, darkrooms, car accidents, and more uneven nudity between partners in front of a 3 panel mirror.  We also have a huge lit up moon on the wall in the weird sex foyer in the huge Hollywood hills mansion of our astronomer? We have so many questions, and get so few answers.

A new couple and their families reckon with modern love amid culture clashes, societal expectations and generational differences. Here's the concept, if you can call it that: Ezra (Hill) and Amira (Lauren London), meet when Ezra mistakes a woman in an idling car for his Uber driver. Amira is an underemployed costume designer on her way to a job interview, and she calls racism. The two spar, then manage to crack each other up. The two share a passion for sneakers and hip-hop – and soon, each other. Goodbye, loneliness! Hello, matching streetwear outfits! It's sheer bliss. And then … their parents enter the picture.Ezra's folks, Arnold and Shelley, are a pair of meddling Jews (David Duchovny and Julia Louis-Dreyfus, two of the many heavyweights in this star-studded, and star-crossed cast). They are elated when they meet their son's new girlfriend, who is beautiful and patient and … it's hard to say what else. Shelley is a virtue-signaling, challah-serving Jewish mom with a flair for putting her foot in her mouth, unable to stop herself from making comments about Black hair and Louis Farrakhan. “Our family is growing in such a cool and hip and funky way!” she exclaims. “We're a family of color.”Amira's parents, Akbar and Fatima (Eddie Murphy and Nia Long), are Black Muslims who also happen to live in the area, all the better to ratchet up the tension. They do not like the cut of Ezra's jib, which means Shelley's cloying embrace has a match in Akbar's incessant razzing of Ezra. He takes the kid who wants to marry his daughter to the Black barber shop, and the basketball court, if only to watch him squirm and renounce his intentions. For her part, Shelley brings Amira to a fancy predominantly white spa.The microaggressions fly, but look past the Holocaust jokes and it's all too evident that not much is happening beneath the surface. The overarching effect of sitting through You People is not unlike watching a Twitter timeline, staring down a smorgasbord of hot-button issues that come without the satisfaction of a through line. There are gags about vaccines, police brutality, Black Lives Matter and Yom Kippur. There is an elderly orthodontist who offers to examine Ezra's penis. (To be fair, I cannot say I anticipated that last one.)With high-octane friends like these, you'd think the production could skate by without setting off cringe alarms. Alas, Louis-Dreyfus is unrecognizably one-note, her spunk blotted out, perhaps, by the indignity of playing a central-casting Karen. Duchovny grumbles his way along – and should be commended for taking a bite of food during a dinner scene where nobody else bothers to pretend to be eating. Mercifully, Murphy adds a dose of sharpness to the project, wrapping his lines in a delivery so sleek and spirited you'd almost think they were funny. And as for the central couple? The one that just wants to get married, culture clash be damned? They're nice. So nice. Too nice.Their moods are determined by their parents, and it's both disheartening and not at all surprising that their parents are the ones who engineer the couple's inevitable late-second-act rupture and third-act redemption. Strong as their shared fondness for tie-dye athleisure may be, the two members of the couple lack agency, and, more unfortunately, an actual connection. It calls back to a moment in Stutz where Hill tells his therapist that he has a disease: “I have to avoid emotion by making jokes.”For all its insistence that it's a daring piece of social commentary, You People is, above all, a romance without a beating heart. ★ Support this podcast on Patreon ★

In today's episode of The Discourse, host Mike DeAngelo puts on his tin foil hat to sit down and talk sci-fi with one of the genre's most beloved figures, David Duchovny (“The X-Files,” “Californication,” “Twin Peaks”). The actor/writer/director is currently out promoting a couple of projects dropping around the same time. First, his film, “The Estate,” in which two sisters, played by Toni Collette and Anna Farris, attempt to win over their terminally ill aunt in hopes of becoming the beneficiaries of large estate. Duchovny plays a seedy, perverted cousin, Dick, who also shows up with similar motives. The film also stars Dean Craig (“Death at a Funeral”), Kathleen Turner, Rosemarie DeWitt, Ron Livingston, and and more. During the chat, Duchovny shared that he requested a certain true story from his life be added to the film to really emphasize who his character truly is. It sounds like what the Boze speaker used to say when D would connect his phone - then named Ziggy. I did look up the term, which real and the definition is as follows: Syzygy is a straight-line configuration of three celestial bodies. Syzygy is also a term used by Carl Jung to mean a union of opposites. I swear, any time Jung is referenced these days I reminisce about Pysch 101 and how I was going to become a therapist. But life didn't work that way so now I'm reading a book called The Myth of Repressed Memory and another called Quantum Bigfoot and trying to figure out a way to create content around them so I can do actual research and then share it with y'all. It's not helping people 1:1 but it's something. I think. Let me know if you'd be interested in a mini-series... Anyway, back to Syzygy. What can I say except Boom Da Boom? David Duchovny is best known for his television roles as FBI agent Fox Mulder on The X-Files (1993-2002 and 2016-2018) and writer Hank Moody on Californication (2007-2014), both of which earned him Golden Globe awards. Beyond his extensive on-screen accomplishments, which include dozens of other films and television shows, he's also a musician and the writer of four novels. Duchovny last joined us at Town Hall to talk about his 2016 book, Bucky F*cking Dent; this June, we're pleased to welcome him back to discuss his latest title, The Reservoir. Inspired by Duchovny's own quarantine times in New York City, The Reservoir follows an unexceptional man living during an exceptional time. Ridley, a former Wall Street veteran, looks back on his life during his days of quarantined solitude and examines his wins, failures, career, relationships, and family. Brooding night after night, he gazes out his picture window high above the Central Park Reservoir and spots a flashing light in an apartment across the park. It's almost as if a lonely quarantined person is signaling him in Morse code. Who are they? And are they in trouble? Determined to identify the mystery person, Ridley leaves the safety of his apartment to save his hypothetical damsel in distress and descends into a surreal and dangerous world of conspiracies, madness, and sickness. As he spirals further into mysteries of love, life, and fatherhood, he realizes that the key to it all might lie deep beneath the freezing waters of the reservoir. Join us at Town Hall as Duchovny discusses his latest novel's twists, turns, and reflections of our disorienting and distanced times. David Duchovny is an award-winning actor, writer, director, New York Times best-selling author, and singer-songwriter. With an acting career spanning more than three decades, Duchovny is a two-time Golden Globe winner and four-time Emmy nominee. He is a prolific author whose fourth novel, Truly Like Lightning, was published in February 2021. His previous novels include the New York Times bestseller Holy Cow, Bucky F*cking Dent, and Miss Subways. As a musician, Duchovny has released three studio albums, Hell or Highwater, Every Third Thought, and Gestureland. Jess Walter is a former National Book Award finalist and winner of the Edgar Allan Poe Award, the author of seven novels, one book of short stories, and one nonfiction book. His work has been translated into 32 languages, and his fiction has been selected three times for Best American Short Stories as well as the Pushcart Prize and Best American Nonrequired Reading. His stories, essays, and journalism have appeared in Harper's, Esquire, Playboy, McSweeney's, Tin House, Ploughshares, the New York Times, the Washington Post, and many others. Actor, writer and musician David Duchovny sits down with Sodajerker to discuss the writing of his third album Gestureland. David discusses the collaborative process, similarities with his work in other art forms, and why the recording is not the final word on a song.

In Conversation with Lesley Visser

Lesley and David Duchovny got off to a bad start. She bought his book "Bucky F### Dent", thinking he was a Red Sox fan. But no, he's a crazy Yankee fan, having grown-up in the post-Mantle years where he "cried when Mel Stottlemyre lost" and "loved Bobby Mercer." Even though he actually met Ted Williams once, he still makes fun of Fenway Park. He has opinions on everything from palming the ball in the NBA to Kobe getting too many calls in a conference final. A summa cum laude graduate of Princeton, Duchovny studied Pete Carril's "offense that was their defense" and wants to develop a basketball show. He called the 1970 Knicks "the most beautiful basketball ever played until the Golden State Warriors." His favorite book as a child was "The Open Man" by Dave DeBusschere - this from a man who's a few credits shy of a doctoral degree in comparative literature from Yale. And, oh, he's also written four novels and recorded three albums. You'll enjoy the conversation.

David Duchovny – Gestureland Gestureland is a melancholy, occasionally noisy but ultimately beautiful affair, and another creative triumph for its architect: Musician-actor-author David Duchovny. While fans may know him best for his screen work (The X-Files, Californication), Duchovny has carved out a larger creative role over the years, authoring four books and releasing three albums while earning raves (and a dedicated fanbase) for his live shows. While the feelings on Gestureland are intimate, the music is expansive: It evokes 70s California pop, alternative rock, folk and country. “Nights Are Harder Than Days'' serves as a rollickin' album opener (shades of Neil Young here), while “Holding Patterns” is softer and orchestral. And ballads such as “Pacific Coast Highway,” “Tessera” and “Sea of Tranquility” find the singer in a more plaintive realm. In its own right, it's timeless music. “I wouldn't go about imitating anyone,” says Duchovny. “But for me it's about classic rock, the British Invasion, Bob Dylan, Tom Petty, Aimee Mann — you fall in love with certain sounds.”Most of the album written during a fraught time in our country, reflected most directly on the early single “Layin' on the Tracks,” an urgent rocker the singer released just before the presidential election. Here, lines like “This civil war we've been fighting in/Since before the flood/Yeah, there's part of us that's always been/At home in the blood” feel damn prophetic. “I'd never written a song like that,” he admits. “Politics is not my style, but I leaned into it this time. But it's also personal at the same time — it's both what I need to change myself and where the country is at. And I do believe the personal is political — there's no ‘theme' to the album but I'm always the same animal riding through the songs.”With his two earlier releases (2015's Hell or High Water and 2017's Every Third Thought) Duchovny earned critical acclaim; Allmusic called his music “eloquent, alt-rock-kissed country-folk in the vein of Wilco and the Wallflowers,” while the Boston Globe praised Duchovny's voice, noting “he sings with a parched resonance and just a hint of rasp. He is rather heartfelt.” Duchovny — a songwriter on record with a healthy sense of humor in real life — nods at the compliments but follows his own modest methodology: “I'll finish a record, then I'll sit and listen, and go, yeah! That's really nice melodic stuff. What else do you want?” Helping achieve all these sounds: Colin Lee, Mitch Stewart and Pat McCusker, three former college friends from the Berklee College of Music and longtime studio musicians who have worked with Duchovny on all of his records. “David is so joyful about making music, and his lyrical approach and his way of looking at songs is like poetry,” says Lee. “He creates stuff that excites us as musicians.” “The more we've all worked together, the more we're all taking risks and tapping into new influences,” adds McCusker, pointing to the unique arrangements on the new track (and album standout) “Tessera.”  During the pause before the new album's arrival, Duchovny released a new novel, Truly Like Lightning, now in development at Showtime. But like all good musicians, he's anxious to get back on the road and perform these new songs live. “David has so much energy and charisma, it's easy for him to carry the show,” says his bandmate Stewart. “I always get such a kick playing live,” adds the singer. “We make our show into a whole evening, and take people on a journey. I can't wait to do a version of this album for a tour.”

Mulder encounters a bathroom troll and goes on a quest to a military base in Idaho.   Produced by Kristen Riley and Daive Reed Follow on Twitter @CastFiles Email us at TheeCastFiles@gmail.com Music by Hal Six  Logo by @OokaArt Patreon   Synopsis When Mulder and Scully investigate a possible conspiracy in the U.S. Air Force, Mulder meets a mysterious informant who warns him to stay away from the case but, undeterred, Mulder comes closer to the truth than ever before, only to have it snatched away from him. Summary Teaser NEAR ELLENS AIR BASE, SOUTHWEST IDAHO I miss when police dressed like this. Now they look like Hollywood super soldier wannabes. As a unit of armed Military Police prepare to storm a house, one of the building's owners, a Mrs. Anita Budahas, arrives at the scene and is told by the commanding officer that her husband has violated security protocol and stolen an armed military vehicle. After the unit break into the house, Mrs. Budahas demands that she be allowed to speak to her husband, who is found curled up in a corner of the bathroom almost naked, shivering, and covered with a skin irritation. Act One WASHINGTON, D.C. Four months later Mulder and Scully meet in a downtown Washington, D.C. bar at lunchtime.  Mulder looks like he's going to kiss her. Scully declines his offer of a drink, due to the early time of day. As the FBI agents start to search for a seat, they are observed by one of several men seated at the bar. At a table, Mulder briefs Scully on the disappearance of Colonel Robert Budahas, the man found by the military police earlier; he is, since 1963, the sixth pilot to have gone missing from Ellens Air Base, where he had been stationed. Deep Throat and Mulder meet for the first time. In the bar's washroom, men's favorite place to chat. Mulder encounters the man who was watching him and Scully earlier. The man reluctantly introduces himself as a potential government informer and warns Mulder to stay away from the case, stating that the military will not tolerate an FBI investigation. Mulder tries to follow the man out of the washroom but loses track of him. Squeezing past a man who looks like his bladder is about to explode. It's very odd.  When Scully then approaches Mulder and asks if he is alright, he hesitantly replies that he is fine, puzzled by his strange encounter. FBI HEADQUARTERS Scully researches Ellens Air Base in a library within FBI Headquarters, finding that the base is known for attracting UFO buffs. In his apartment, Mulder answers a call from Scully, in which she complains about her discoveries, but he notices that his telephone is apparently bugged and that someone is watching his apartment from a van parked outside. He refuses to discuss Scully's concerns with her until their flight and quickly hangs up. MARRIETTE FIELD SOUTHWEST IDAHO As they wait for Mrs. Budahas to answer the door, the duo remark on the sound of a speeding aircraft flying overhead. The agents question Mrs. Budahas, who is severely shaken by the loss of her husband and mentions that he started acting bizarrely prior to his disappearance. Sprinkling fish food flakes all over his food at a dinner party. He'd yell at the kids for no reason and would shake like he was having a seizure.  He “was always a patriot first. He took loyalty to his country as an oath, and now they treat us like strangers. I just want my husband back.” “How will I support my family?” Being a military spouse and family is so hard.  She also tells Mulder that neighbor Verla McLennen's husband similarly went "kind of crazy." At Mrs. McLennan's home, the agents see that her husband is picking hairs from his own head and using them as fish bait. Mrs. McLennan tells the agents that he began behaving strangely almost two years ago and guesses that his condition was caused by stress. “You know they do volunteer for their jobs.” She is highly respectful to and thankful for the Air Force but makes a snide comment to Mrs. Budahas, apparently appalled that she has brought the FBI agents there. Outside her own home, Mrs. Budahas provides a list of phone numbers she has repeatedly tried to call. Scully suggests that Mrs. McLennan's husband is suffering from stereotypy and that the pilots may be washouts from the Aurora Project, though these ideas are refuted by Mulder, based on the caliber of the pilots, particularly Colonel Budahas. Mulder says these test pilots aren't zoo animals. They aren't supposed to break under pressure. In their motel, the agents confer about their attempts to speak with a member of the Air Force. Scully mentions that she has managed to arrange an appointment with a Colonel Kissel and, even though Mulder is initially doubtful of this arrangement, he starts to search for more information about the colonel. The agents confront Kissel outside his house, but he refuses to cooperate with them and demands that they leave. After he hurries inside, the agents are met by local journalist Paul Mossinger. He remarks on the abundance of "UFO nuts" in the area, seemingly skeptical of the UFO phenomenon, and acknowledges the noise of another aircraft passing overhead at high speed. Mulder refuses to divulge how his and Scully's investigation is proceeding, but asks Mossinger to suggest someplace where Mulder might talk to one of the aforementioned UFO nuts. A woman claims she witnessed a UFO. At "The Flying Saucer" diner, I miss diners.  Mulder and Scully meet a woman who identifies the noise of yet another speedy aircraft as an F-15 Eagle and remarks on the arrogance of the pilots. With prompting from Mulder, she shows the agents a series of UFO photographs arranged behind the diner's bar, claiming that she took one herself and recalling her experience of witnessing the pictured craft. Mulder agrees to buy a print of the picture from the woman – prompting Scully to teasingly call him a "sucker" – and asks about his chances of seeing a UFO himself, at which point Scully leaves in exasperation.  Outside, she is studying a map of the area, worrying that it does not include Ellens Air Base. Mulder alleges to have already known the base would not be on the map, calling her a "sucker" in return, and hands her a hand-written map he has been able to obtain that does show the base's location.   OUTSIDE ELLENS AIR BASE 6:04 P.M. The agents drive off the main road to the base and head up a hill, passing a military warning sign on the way. Mulder brings the car to a stop next to a chain link perimeter fence and then wanders up a grassy embankment while Scully, seriously annoyed and choosing to remain with the car, mocks his attempt to search for UFOs. At night, Scully is asleep in the car as a low rumble begins to sound but she wakens with a start upon hearing the vehicle's rear window shatter. Mulder hurriedly returns to the car, eager to show her something.   Act Two 9:13 P.M. Mulder and Scully watch two strange lights in the sky. The FBI agents watch two strange lights dance above the base, theorizing about what they are. After the lights seemingly rise out of sight and collide, the agents notice an approaching light, which turns out to be a helicopter. Then they see two teenagers, a girl and boy, who are fleeing the base. The agents chase down the two teens; all four hide under a tree until the helicopter flies away. 5:02 A.M. In a roadside diner, the teenagers, Emil and Zoe, eat while being questioned about the base. They recount their experiences at the base and Emil mentions an area called the Yellow Base that is supposedly a massive hangar surrounded by land-mines. Unbeknownst to the four, a car pulls up outside and the driver reports their presence to his superior, using obscure lingo. Emil continues demonstrating the way in which the aircraft he has seen at the base flies and jokingly reveals his thoughts about the nature of the craft. When Mulder shows him the picture he bought earlier, Emil claims it looks exactly like the craft he has seen. After Mulder drops Emil and Zoe at a residential property, Scully expresses doubt about their claims. Mulder tries to convince her that there is a connection between the crafts at Ellens Air Base and the UFO that reportedly crashed in Roswell, New Mexico in 1947. Ellens Air Base is supposedly one of six sites where parts from the wreckage were shipped, and Mulder believes the military is flying planes built with UFO technology. Scully attempts to poke holes in Mulder's theory and argues that it does not adequately explain the disappearance of Colonel Budahas, which Mulder ultimately agrees with. Back at their motel, Scully races to Mulder's room and relays news that Colonel Budahas was returned to his home the previous night. Anita Budahas claims the man who says he's her husband is not really him. The agents drive back to the Budahas residence, where they find Mrs. Budahas upset and in shock.  Mulder looks smoldering while asking her “Mrs. Budahas, are you ok?” What would you do if Duchovny showed up at the door when you were upset and said “David, are you ok?” She insists that a man sitting inside, who looks identical to her husband, is not actually him.   Act Three After Mulder manages to slightly calm Mrs. Budahas, he questions the man who she claims looks identical to Colonel Budahas but is not him. Mrs. Budahas confirms that almost each and every answer that the man gives is correct but, just as the man starts to get frustrated with the interrogation, Mulder asks him a question regarding an immelmann while maintaining 8 gs. Colonel Budahas struggles to answer and scares himself, realizing he doesn't know. He steps towards Mrs. Budahas but she backs away, sobbing. After Mulder hurriedly leaves, Scully rushes out after him, demanding his input. Mulder admits that he thinks Colonel Budahas' brain has been rewired, using some kind of selective memory drain. Scully argues that the means to do that do not exist and suggests amnesia as a reasonable explanation. Mulder sarcastically says the technology powering the aircraft that the agents apparently saw the previous night doesn't exist either. Several Large Men confront Mulder and Scully. Mulder and Scully continue to argue while driving along a highway, but are cut off and boxed in by two cars, out of which step several Men in Black.  “You think if maybe we ignore them, they'll go away?” The men proceed to search the agents' car and confiscate all their evidence. When Mulder questions their motives, he is assaulted by one of the men. The agents are warned to leave or risk the consequences of breaching national security. In her motel room, Scully ends a phone conversation with a contact named Gail, finding that her attempt to track down one of the cars has been fruitless. Mulder suggests that the helicopter that chased Emil and Zoe out of the base was really after Mulder and Scully, and that the military not only knew the agents were coming but also "returned" Colonel Budahas as a decoy. Mulder then divulges to Scully that he was approached by the cautioning, secretive man in Washington, D.C. and that his own phone was being tapped, which he takes as proof of a huge conspiracy to cover up the presence of a UFO in the area. He and Scully passionately debate the consequences of such a secret. “When does the human cost become too high?” Scully voices her eagerness to leave, especially now that Colonel Budahas has been returned, which technically ends their investigation. Mulder makes a futile attempt to appeal to Scully's curiosity, before acquiescing to her wishes. Scully is soon alerted by the noise of their car, however, and hurries outside to see Mulder driving away. Emil and Zoe lead Mulder to a hole in the fence that surrounds Ellens Air Base. He is surprised when the teens decline to follow him, explaining that they've only ever gone in at night. They describe the area inside the perimeter to him and Mulder wanders off as Zoe shouts a warning not to pass the edge of some tall weeds that she knows about. Suddenly realizing they have forgotten to remind Mulder about the land mines, Emil calls out, but Mulder is too far away. A triangular UFO hovers over Mulder. Mulder later nears the edge of the tall weeds, where he waits until nightfall. After he walks onto a runway, a triangular craft speeds towards him, instantly slowing to hover above him, and then shines a dazzlingly bright, white light down on him before darting away. Mulder then notices two military vehicles pulling onto the runway and speeding toward him; after a short chase, he is captured by army personnel, who strap him to a gurney and then load him into one of their transports before driving away.   Act Four Still struggling inside one of the military vehicles, Mulder is injected with something and held down until he apparently loses consciousness. 6:30 A.M. Scully, meanwhile, struggles to make a phone call to Washington, D.C. Leaving her gun in her room, she goes to the motel manager and asks to use his phone, which also doesn't work. The Manager tells her that one of the many things people commonly blame on the nearby military interference is the fact that phones are pretty undependable in the area. The military vehicle carrying Mulder enters a hangar where Mulder's gurney is offloaded from the vehicle. As it is wheeled through the building he, in his drugged state, sees men working on a large, spaceship-shaped object that is obscured behind a large sheet of plastic. As Emil and Zoe watch, Scully holds Paul Mossinger captive. Scully is surprised to see Paul Mossinger stepping out of her room. He claims to have been looking for her and saw that her door was open. After Scully hears a burst of static from a walkie-talkie in his car, she locks herself inside it. In the glove compartment, she finds a gun and an ID badge indicating that he works at Ellens Air Base. Although Mossinger breaks into the car and tries to grab Scully, she manages to pull his own gun on him. Emil and Zoe arrive and Emil tells Scully that they took Mulder to the base; Zoe adds that they waited all night for him. Scully demands that Mossinger find out where Mulder is, threatening to go to the national newspapers otherwise. In a medical facility, a light is shone into Mulder's eye, into which is then dropped a driblet of a silver solution. Scully and Mossinger arrive at the base's entrance, where Scully exchanges Mossinger for Mulder. Mossinger walks towards the base as Mulder staggers away from it. As Mossinger passes Mulder, he tells the agents that everything they have seen in the area is equal to the protection that the military gives it and that the agents are the ones who have "acted inappropriately." As they drive away, Scully asks Mulder if he's okay, but he can only respond with confusion as to how he got there. The agents visit the Budahas residence but Mrs. Budahas, noticeably discomforted, claims her husband is fine and quickly thanks the agents for their concern before shutting the door in their faces. Mulder is convinced the military have visited Mrs. Budahas and threatened her into keeping silent. Scully, eager to be done with the place, irritably tells him they know nothing more than when they arrived, planning to write that in her field report.   FBI HEADQUARTERS WASHINGTON, D.C. ONE WEEK LATER In an office at FBI Headquarters, Scully types up her field report, in which she recounts that Colonel Budahas was returned home – albeit in a highly bewildered state – and refuses to confirm Mulder's theory that the colonel may have suffered stress-related trauma as a result of flying aircraft using recovered UFO technology. She does, however, corroborate his account of having seen two UFOs in the sky over Ellens Air Base. She officially closes the case, before picking up the UFO photograph Mulder obtained at "The Flying Saucer" and staring at it. Deep Throat informs Mulder "they" have been here for a long time. While jogging at a local race track, Mulder meets Deep Throat – the secretive man who approached him in the bar. The man warns that the agents' lives may be in danger, because they have seen things that were not meant to be seen. As Mulder starts to talk about what he saw, Deep Throat interrupts with a reminder that he can provide information to Mulder, but only so long as doing so is in his own best interest – namely, in pursuit of the truth. Mulder says he did see something, but it has been taken away from him, erased. Although he neither confirms nor denies whether Mulder saw a military UFO, the man reminds Mulder, through a rhetorical question, that the reason those who believe in the existence of alien life on Earth are not dissuaded by all the evidence to the contrary – like Mulder himself – is that the evidence to the contrary is not entirely dissuasive. Deep Throat starts to walk away but momentarily turns back when Mulder asks if aliens are indeed already on Earth. Deep Throat responds they have been on the planet for an extremely long time.

Today we are discussing Episode 1 - Pilot and having a darn good time doing it. Produced by Kristen Riley and Daive Reed Follow on Twitter @CastFiles Email us at TheeCastFiles@gmail.com Music by Hal Six  Logo by @OokaArt Patreon   Synopsis Teaser In a forest at night, a young woman tumbles around in a long nightgown. She ends up in a small clearing and sees an immense light growing over a nearby hill. A large vortex of leaves starts and a male figure approaches from the light. The figure stands over her as the light engulfs them both.   COLLUM NATIONAL FOREST, NORTHWEST OREGON The next morning, two uniformed men inspect the woman's corpse with a team of coroners. One explains there's no sign of battery or sexual assault, although how they determine this is questionable because the dead woman is laying prone in the dirt. It does appear she does have two small bumps on her lower back (resembling vampire bite moles). A trail of dried blood runs from the woman's nose to her mouth. Which again begs the question, what are your examination techniques, sirs? Detective Miles, one of the two uniformed men, recognizes the young woman as Karen Swenson, since she used to go to school with his son. As Miles walks away in a hurry, Truitt calls after him. The coroner asks if Karen and the detective's son were in the high school class of 1989, implying that other members of her class have died in the same way as Karen Swenson.   Act One FBI HEADQUARTERS, WASHINGTON, DC   Special Agent Dana Scully(!) enters the FBI building for a meeting with Division Chief Scott Blevins. Inside, Blevins questions her about her past work while a mysterious man smoking a cigarette silently watches.  Smoking in the office, can you imagine in 2021? Scully is a medical doctor who has been working within the FBI for about two years. Blevins notifies her that she is being assigned to work with Fox Mulder on the X-Files, a group of cases that involve paranormal or inexplicable phenomena. Scully was recruited by the FBI out of medical school and felt she could distinguish herself. Obviously, she's intelligent and has worked her way through FBI school. What has she been doing the past 2 years? She knows of Mulder by reputation.  Blevins asks what she knows about Mulder. She explains that Mulder is an Oxford educated psychologist who was once the best analyst in the violent crimes section. He helped catch a serial killer. Eventually he became so obsessed with the unexplained that he became a joke and was banished into the basement as “The FBIs most unwanted”.  What happened to send her to the basement with "the FBI's Most Unwanted"? Scully is assigned to write reports about Mulder's cases.    In the building's basement, Scully meets Mulder in his office. This is the big reveal. It's gross how attractive he is. Queue gif on repeat of the Fox Mulder reveal. Even in those glasses he's #HotMulder. After a brief intro Mulder dives into the Swenson case. He shows her several slides on a projector of Karen Swenson's dead body and reveals that a strange organic substance has been found near the two marks on the woman's back (aka Vampire bite moles). He also shows her two slides of bodies found in Sturgis, South Dakota and Shamrock, Texas, where both the two spots and the substance in the surrounding tissue were found.  Although Mulder seems to believe that the cases are somehow linked to aliens, Scully argues that science will uncover a more logical explanation. We're setting up the believer/skeptic dichotomy pretty heavily in the pilot. Mulder tells her that three of Karen Swenson's classmates (class of 1989) have also died in mysterious circumstances and states that he and Scully will leave to investigate the deaths early the next morning.   Quote of the Episode: Mulder “When convention and science offer us no answers might we not finally turn to the fantastic as a plausibility?” Scully “What I find fantastic is that there are answers beyond the scientific." On an airplane to Oregon, Mulder lies sprawled across a row of seats, with his eyes closed and headphones in his ears. Wired headphones, bluetooth wasn't widely available. Scully is reading, she's wearing glasses so we know she's the studious one while napping Mulder is the "slacker". (Sidenote: If you've read Agents of Chaos by Kami Garcia there's another possible read, it's canon according to Chris Carter.)  Scully examines newspaper clippings about the dead teenagers. The camera focuses on the name "Dr. Nemman". Upon making its descent, the plane suddenly starts to shake violently but eventually normalizes. In the early 90s overhead compartments on planes didn't latch.   Mulder nonchalantly concludes the temporary vibrations must mean they are in the right place.   Afterwards, Mulder drives a rental car into Bellefleur, Oregon as Scully continues to read the relevant X-file. She is surprised to learn that the case has already been investigated, information that Mulder did not disclose. Which we ask, how did she miss this while studying during her 6 hour flight? He explains that the FBI became involved after the first three deaths, but left one week later without explanation. According to Scully, no unidentified marks are noted in the autopsy reports of the first three victims, although those reports were signed by a different medical examiner than the latest victim. Mulder is impressed by Scully's observations (why? She's trained as a medical doctor), but adds that they won't know whether the original medical examiner is a suspect until they have exhumed one of the first three bodies. The agents will likely then have a better idea whether the examiner intentionally missed the strange marks, or if Karen Swenson was the first victim with the spots. Suddenly, the car's radio goes wonky and the agents hear a high-pitched noise. Mulder stops the car and uses an aerosol from the luggage compartment to spray a large, red "X" on the road directly behind the vehicle. (Listen for our Avis UFO Hunter Kit explanation). When he returns to the car, Mulder states that the incident was probably only trivial. Where did he get the spray paint? Did he have it in his luggage? What else could you bring on planes in the early 90s?   COASTAL NORTHWEST OREGON MARCH 7, 1993 Body exhumation of Ray Soames, the third victim. They're interrupted by Dr. Nemman, the examiner of the first three bodies. He says he was away on family vacation for this one. Nemman is weirdly aggressive which makes him look incredibly guilty.  “How does a 20 year old boy die of exposure after only 7 hours on a warm summer's night, Scully?”  When the agents arrive at their destination, they meet with John Truitt and an assistant coroner. The group begins to discuss arrangements for the exhumation but are interrupted when another car arrives and the County Medical Examiner, who autopsied the first three bodies, steps out. The examiner, Doctor Jay Nemman, struggles to stop his daughter from interfering and protests against the FBI's use of the cemetery. He also reveals that he and his family have just come back to Bellefleur after a recent holiday, which explains why he didn't conduct the autopsy on Karen Swenson. When Mulder mentions the tissue sample taken from the victim's body, Nemman believes that the agents are insinuating that he missed something in the original autopsies. Eventually, the man leaves at his daughter's insistence. The strange corpse found in Ray Soames' coffin. Mulder and Scully return to the grave site and discuss Ray Soames, the third victim whose body they are exhuming. A crane lifts Soames' coffin out of the ground, but a harness attached to the vehicle suddenly breaks and the coffin rolls down a hill. Mulder runs toward the coffin, to see it has been broken open by the fall. Against Truitt's advice, Mulder opens the coffin to find a desiccated, mummified body lying inside. The corpse is definitely not human and Mulder demands that the coffin be resealed.   Act Two 10:56 PM While examining the corpse, Scully determines that the body is mammalian - possibly an orangutan or chimpanzee. Excited that the body may have been alien in origin, Mulder asks Scully to conduct a complete analysis of the corpse. Scully, who thinks that the presence of the body was someone's practical joke, reluctantly agrees to comply with Mulder's request. Later, Scully finds a small metallic implant in the body's nasal cavity. Mulder knocks at her door and asks if she wants to join him on a run. Scully tiredly declines.  "Ugh, Duchovny even looks hot with his hat on backwards." - Kristen When Mulder wonders if she has identified the implant in Soames' nose yet, she replies negatively and bids Mulder goodnight.   RAYMON COUNTY STATE PSYCHIATRIC HOSPITAL Mulder and Scully walk with Doctor Glass, who confirms that Ray Soames was a patient at the hospital. Glass claims that, under his supervision, Soames was treated for clinical schizophrenia for a year. According to the doctor, Soames appeared to suffer from a form of post-traumatic stress and couldn't grasp reality. Similar cases that Glass has treated have included several of Soames' classmates, two of whom are currently undergoing treatment at the hospital. The patients, Billy Miles and Peggy O'Dell, have lived in the hospital for four years. When Scully asks if she and Mulder can speak to them, Glass replies that the agents might have difficulty questioning the patients, especially Billy Miles. Mulder and Scully visit Billy Miles. Inside the hospital, Billy lies in a bed unresponsive as Glass and the agents enter. The doctor explains that Miles is experiencing a "waking coma" as a result of a car accident on State Road in which Peggy O'Dell was also involved. Peggy sits in a wheelchair next to Billy Miles, reading to him. The doctor asks her if she will talk with the visitors but she replies that Billy wants her to read to him at the moment. When Mulder asks the doctor for permission to conduct a detailed medical examination of Peggy O'Dell, she goes berserk. Mulder lifts her shirt to reveal the twin back moles. Outside, Mulder hurriedly follows her down a flight of steps. He realizes that Scully is upset because she thinks he knows more about the strange marks than she does. Eventually, Mulder admits to his belief that the teenagers were abducted by extraterrestrials, a theory that Scully thinks is crazy. She comments that there must be another explanation which can be proved scientifically. Mentioning that all four victims were found in or near the woods, Scully wonders what they were doing there. At night, the agents walk through the forest where the latest victim died. They carry flashlights and are dressed in informal clothing. After they separate, Mulder looks at a compass he is carrying, which is spinning wildly. In the clearing where Karen Swenson died, Scully notices a patch of strange dirt on the ground. She picks up some of the POCKET SAND and puts it in her pocket. When a low rumbling begins, Scully removes a gun from her pocket and leaves the clearing. She approaches the source of the noise, where a light shines through the trees. A humanoid silhouette from out of the light comes toward her.   Act Three The silhouette is actually Detective Miles. He doesn't reveal his name, but states only that he is employed by the Raymon County Sheriff's Department and warns the agents that they are on private property. They are forced to leave. Driving through a storm in the darkness of night, Scully shows Mulder the dirt that she gathered earlier. Mulder believes the dirt might be from a campfire, while Scully theorizes that the teenagers may have been part of a cult and that the man they just encountered is aware of that.  Suddenly, there is a blinding flash of light and the car loses power. Mulder, who looked at his watch just before the incident, says they've lost nine minutes of time. Extremely excited, Mulder exits the car and discovers that they are almost exactly at the red cross he previously marked in the road. He excitedly explains to Scully that people who have sighted UFOs often report time loss. However, Scully argues that time can't just disappear, as it is constant throughout the universe. Their car then restarts by itself and the headlamps light up. In her motel room, Scully writes her report, concluding that she cannot validate nor substantiate Mulder's claim that they experienced a loss of time. When the power goes out due to the storm, Scully begins to get ready to take a shower but notices three spots on her back. Worried that the spots may be the same marks that the teenagers had, Scully visits Mulder in his motel room,  She's in a red bathrobe and asks Mulder to look at something. She disrobes, Mulder kneels down and with the light of the candle looks like he's going to place tiny kisses on the small of her back.  He determines that the spots are only mosquito bites. Scully is so relieved that she leans on Mulder's chest and he puts his arms around her. In his motel room, Mulder tells Scully about some of his personal history. Later, Mulder tells her that his sister's disappearance when he was twelve tore his family apart. He continues by recalling that he left America as soon as he could and attended Oxford University, before being recruited by the Bureau. He then discovered the X-files and became fascinated by them. He tells Scully that he has been trying to access classified government information, but someone at a higher level of power has been blocking him from doing so. The only reason Mulder has been able to continue his work is that he has made connections in Congress. He suspects Scully is part of an agenda to stop him, but she swears that she is not and tries to convince him to trust her. Mulder leans forward and tells Scully that a Dr. Heitz Werber has taken him through regression hypnosis to access his repressed memories of the night his sister disappeared. He reveals to Scully what he can recall from that night. Mulder believes that his sister was abducted by extraterrestrials and that the government is aware of the existence of the aliens. He also states that the only thing that matters to him is finding out whatever the government is protecting. Mulder then receives a strange phone call from an anonymous female caller, who says that Peggy O'Dell is dead.   RURAL HWY. 133 BELLEFLEUR, OREGON When the agents arrive at the scene of the car accident that killed Peggy O'Dell, a driver tells Mulder that the girl ran in front of his car, despite normally being in a wheelchair earlier. Scully takes a look at the girl's body. Her face is bloodied and her watch has stopped at the same time that the agents experienced time loss. Mulder tells Scully that the autopsy lab has been trashed and the body that the agents exhumed has been stolen. They leave the scene in the car they arrived in. Mulder and Scully return to their motel to find it has burnt down, along with all their files and photos. A terrified girl, Theresa Nemman, the medical examiner's daughter, rushes up to the agents and asks for their protection. In a diner, Theresa speaks with Mulder and Scully. She reveals that she often finds herself in the woods with no recollection of how she got there. She fears that she might die, like most of her classmates. Mulder realizes that Theresa is the medical examiner's daughter and that she was the anonymous caller who told him that Peggy O'Dell had died. She admits that her father is covering things up and that she has the same spots as the other teenagers. Suddenly, her nose starts bleeding,  It squirts out of her nose like a mustard bottle. How did they do that? With Peggy's nose bleed it was one of those blood capsules smashed on her face. This was weirdly done. Scully thinks the medical examiner and the detective are aware of the murderer's identity and are responsible for the destruction of the autopsy lab and the agents' motel rooms. However, she is unsure as to the reason the corpse was stolen if the men are indeed responsible. Mulder and Scully stand in a graveyard, getting drenched in rain. Mulder and Scully go to the cemetery but discover that the bodies of the other two victims have also been exhumed. Mulder suddenly realizes the killer's true identity - Billy Miles, the boy in the hospital.   Act Four 5:07 AM Scully can hardly believe what Mulder is suggesting, but he claims that recent strange events, such as Peggy O'Dell dying at exactly the same time that he and Scully lost nine minutes, fit the profile of alien abduction. Mulder theorizes that tests were being conducted on the victims that left the marks found on their backs but the experiments caused a genetic mutation, explaining the disfigured body in Ray Soames' coffin. In regard to the loss of nine minutes that he and Scully witnessed, Mulder believes that conventional time stopped and that an alien impulse, which also caused Billy Miles to take the victims into the forest, actually took control of time itself. Scully laughs almost hysterically with Mulder, finding his theory preposterous but believing it nevertheless. In an attempt to confirm or disprove their suspicions, Mulder and Scully return to the hospital where Billy Miles is undergoing treatment. Although his nurse claims that his mental condition has rendered him incapable of walking, Scully shows Mulder dirt on the soles of the boy's feet. She takes a sample of the dirt shortly before she leaves the room with Mulder. How do bed pans work? Nurse says, “not my aisle of the produce department” Outside, Scully claims to be certain that Billy Miles was in the same forest as the victims. She explains that the dirt she has just discovered matches the strange earth she found in Collum National Forest earlier. Unfortunately, the sample of strange earth was destroyed in the motel fire and, therefore, can not be used to make a comparison. The agents consequently decide to return to the woods, in order to retrieve another sample. When Mulder and Scully arrive at the edge of the forest, they notice Detective Miles' car. A distant scream draws them into the woods. Scully follows Mulder as they run toward the source of the noise, but is suddenly ambushed by Detective Miles and falls to the ground. The detective stands over Scully and reminds her of his previous warning to stay away. He then runs toward Mulder and holds him at gunpoint. Mulder accuses Miles of always knowing what was happening and warns that his son is about to kill another girl. Persuaded by Mulder, Detective Miles rushes towards his son, who holds Theresa Nemman in his arms. The detective urges his son to put her down and raises his gun when Billy Miles does not comply. Mulder knocks the detective over, just as he is about to fire his gun, alerting Scully to their location. Billy Miles lifts Theresa Nemman up to a bright light above. Mulder and the detective witness Billy Miles lift Theresa Nemman in his arms, as leaves whirl around him and a bright light shines down from above. The light eventually engulfs them all, as Scully watches from a distance. After the light dissipates, Billy has no memory of his actions and is confused as to what has happened. The spots on his back are gone and he is no longer crippled by the deleterious effects of a "waking coma." Unlike the other victims, Theresa Nemman is unharmed. Mulder rushes away to find Scully and, when they meet, he seems extremely moved by the event he has just witnessed. Act Five MARCH 22, 1993 FBI HEADQUARTERS, WASHINGTON, D.C. Billy Miles undergoes hypnosis performed by Heitz Werber.  Mulder is in the room with him, while Scully watches from an anteroom through a one-way mirror. Division Chief Blevins, the Cigarette-Smoking Man and the third man from earlier are also in the anteroom. According to Billy Miles, he and his friends were having a party in the woods to celebrate their graduation when he first saw the bright light. It transported him to a location that he calls "the testing place," where a group told him to gather the others so they could do tests. The group put an implant in his nasal cavity, and he would wait for the light to give their orders to him. They assured him that it would be okay and that no-one would know. However, the tests didn't work and they wanted everything destroyed. Although they said they were leaving, Billy is now afraid that they're coming back. Heitz Werber tells him not to be afraid, assuring him that the FBI are only trying to help, as the Cigarette-Smoking Man whispers something to Blevins in the anteroom.  In Blevins' office, Scully and the Division Chief discuss the case. The third man is also present. He and Blevins both seem to believe that the suggestion of alien abduction found in Scully's field reports and Billy Miles' supposed recollections under hypnosis is completely unscientifically founded. Scully replies that, while writing her field reports, she only noted things she actually saw. She admits that she cannot substantiate all of Mulder's claims, including the sudden loss of nine minutes. Blevins tells her that he sees no evidence to support the validity of the X-files, and, therefore, no reason to continue them. Scully answers that real crimes had been committed and were solved, but Blevins rhetorically asks how to prosecute the criminals when the case has no basis in reality. When told that she has no evidence, Scully hands over the implant found in Ray Soames' coffin, which she has kept in her pocket and was not destroyed in the motel fire. According to Scully, a lab test that she conducted failed to identify the material. When Blevins asks what Mulder thinks about the case, Scully responds by implying that her new FBI partner believes aliens are responsible. After she is dismissed from Blevins' office, Scully passes the Cigarette Smoking Man in the corridor outside. She pauses to watch him enter Blevins' office, before continuing on her way. Later, Scully lies awake in bed. She answers a phone call from Mulder, who tells her that a case file on Billy Miles has disappeared from the District Attorney's office in Raymon County, Oregon. Mulder wants to talk with her and Scully agrees that they will discuss their situation on the following day. In a storage room in the Pentagon, the Cigarette Smoking Man files away the implant in a box containing many others, surrounded by rows upon rows of shelves, all containing similar boxes. He exits the room and locks the door by running his keycard through its sensor, before walking away.

The Force Fed Sci-Fi Movie Podcast

This week, join us as we discuss Evolution (2001 film)! Learn our thoughts (and criticisms) as we go over the Evolution film cast and characters, give our Evolution film review and rating, how wrong evolution is portrayed in the film Evolution, and more! Evolution Movie Summary and Synopsis After a meteor crashes in the Arizona desert, two local scientists investigate the rock as it slowly becomes an alien encounter and the creatures that emerge begin to evolve immediately. Soon afterwards, the military takes over the crash site and the two scientists are joined by a military aide and a firefighter trainee to battle the aliens before they take over the world. So, right off the bat, the film is oozing with science fiction. There's a meteor crash, aliens, evolution (obviously), and government oversight. What more could a sci-fi fan want from this? A better movie would've been nice … more on that in a bit. Evolution Film Cast, Characters, and Crew Directed by Ivan Reitman: Reitman is best known for directing comedies such as Animal House, Stripes and Ghostbusters, but we feel like he fell a bit short of his past work. It's important to note the similarities between Evolution and Ghostbusters. There are four main characters, three are qualified to deal with their situation with a civilian tagalong, there's military/government oversight and a battle involving a giant creature at the end of the film. If Reitman was going to go for a Ghostbusters sequel, maybe he just should've gone for that. David Duchovny as Dr. Ira Kane: At this point in his career, Duchovny was well-known for his portrayal of Fox Mulder on the cult hit TV show, The X-Files, but much like Ivan Reitman, Duchovny seemed like he was phoning in his character. The only time he really emotes is when he's trying to get to know or sleep with Julianne Moore's character. Julianne Moore as Allison: Thankfully Moore offers up a great performance compared to the rest of the actors she's surrounded. She's struggling to deal with her male military bosses and she's often overruled during meetings until she works up the nerve to leave and join forces with Ira. She's also dealing with her emotions toward Ira and her animosity to him eventually turns into a ham fisted romance. Orlando Jones as Harry Block: While most of the comedy in this film comes from Jones' delivery and performance, his character is certainly problematic while looking at it through today's lens. He's clearly using his position as a professor to potentially sleep with one of his female students, he uses his colleague's computer to look at pornography and he cracks jokes about taking showers with his female volleyball players. As Chris points out in the podcast episode, if he were a real world person, there would a Sports Illustrated expose about how terrible he was. Seann William Scott as Wayne Gray: Prior to starring in Evolution, Scott also starred in the teen comedy American Pie and he continued his line of playing goofy yet loveable characters and Wayne is no exception. While he's a bit of a dope in here, he does come through in several dangerous situations and proves to be an essential part of this group. Our Issues with Evolution There was a lot our hosts pointed out as having problems with: Sean's lens flare included portrayals of the education system along with the military. Several other glaring issues include problems with how quickly evolution was shown in the film. Simply put, evolution on a scale like this does not happen. Evolution, even on a grand scale, occurs over the course of millions of year and is not nearly as dramatic as going from flatworms to giant bug eating trees. Chris' lens flare includes the overacting and stunt casting of Dan Aykroyd as the Governor of Arizona. He definitely could've refined his performance a little bit and did not need to be as over the top as he performed. Most of the characters seem sex crazed and not overly concerned with just how grav...
