On this episode of The Underground Lounge, Lou and Spank sit down with hip hop royalty as Layzie Bone steps into the lounge to tell the unfiltered story behind the rise of Bone Thugs-N-Harmony. What starts as a nostalgic conversation quickly turns into a masterclass on hunger, originality, and longevity in the music industry.Layzie takes it back to Cleveland talent shows, forming as kids, and the early grind that eventually led the group to Los Angeles with nothing but bus tickets, big dreams, and relentless belief. He breaks down how they chased down Eazy-E, why they were determined to sign with him specifically, and what it was like going from homelessness to platinum success. The story of how the group name evolved, the competitive spirit within the crew, and how their harmonized, melody-driven flow changed the sound of rap gives real insight into what made Bone different from everyone else at the time. The conversation also dives into the making of timeless records like “Crossroads” and “First of the Month,” the real-life pain and loss that inspired their biggest records, and why those songs still connect decades later. Layzie shares behind-the-scenes stories about working with icons like The Notorious B.I.G., 2Pac, and Mariah Carey, along with reflections on how the industry shifted from artist development to chasing trends. He speaks candidly about originality, “style biting,” independence, and why protecting your legacy matters more than ever. It's funny, reflective, and full of game from a true pioneer who helped shape the sound of a generation. This episode is more than a trip down memory lane, it's a real conversation about building something timeless and surviving every era of hip hop.

Snow and perceptual drift is this week's show. This episode includes the heaviest moments of precipitation (for us, early in the morning 1/25), which dumped white stuff all over my backyard and 56.1% of the contiguous United States. We wound up with about 10 inches. As I write this, I have just finished cursing about the school cancelling our last chance to push the kids out the door this week. It has been freezing and there's snow everywhere — so I get it. However, the kids have been home starting fights and wanting Panera for lunch all week. I'm done. And the constant melt and refreezing has left us gingerly moving about outside. I already slipped and fell off the back deck trying to wrestle with bins for trash pickup. I landed directly on my *** slid down a few steps and into hardened snow at the foot of the stairs. I looked around to see if anyone had witnessed. It's embarrassing falling in front of people — over the summer, I hit a soft shoulder with my bike, trying to put my feet down to stop myself going down a hill toward the banks of a pond. I flipped head over heels into a barrel roll in front of no fewer than four people. And I'm getting to the age where people aren't saying, “Look at that doofus.” Literal Boy Scouts have tried to rescue me — like, guys, you can't help me, I fall off of **** a lot. I fell off a moving train once.So getting to the mailbox over the icy sidewalks has been a challenge.Does anyone else rap to themselves when they are concentrating? Not freestyle — that would be absurd. No, calling upon the great verses of hip hop. I recite Inspectah Deck's “Movin' on a ***** with the speed of a centipede…” while surreptitiously eating candy with my kids in the other room. There are verses in my brain I call upon when I especially need to concentrate. As with icy conditions, I recall one of the slowest, most pedestrian lines in hip hop: Eazy-E's verse on Foe tha Love of $. And no shade to Eazy-E — he was a legend… who had a few pedestrian lines (I'm using pedestrian again, as I don't want in on any rap beefs).Eazy-E slowly raps, “So I dash, I duck, and I hide behind a tree,” to hide from the police (while working as a street pharmacist). It's pretty simple stuff.Look, I'm an Eazy-E fan. I played Merry Mutha****** Xmas every December on my college radio Christmas show in central Vermont. When Daz rapped, “**** B.G. Knocc Out and every ****** down with him,” I knew who B.G. Knocc Out was — I had B.G. Knocc Out (and Dresta's) cassette; the duo were featured heavily on Eazy-E's Str8 off tha Streetz of ************ Compton. And that album has “Just Tah Let U Know,” my fave Eazy track. BTW: lewd — lots of swears, Mom (don't click any links).

What you listen to literally shapes your inner dialogue and your inner dialogue becomes your outward reality. In this video, Kelly Cardenas breaks down how God's voice can be the ultimate jam in your head and why Proverbs 10 proves that wisdom on repeat joy, integrity, and life that actually works. This morning, Maddox was grooving in the kitchen, reciting lyrics like it was a mini concert. And it hit me—I can't remember a single thing from school, but I can spit Eazy-E like a pro. Why? Repetition sticks. We remember what's on heavy rotation. So what if wisdom could be the soundtrack of our lives?Proverbs 10 drops these truths like beats:Doing right always pays off even if no one clapsDiligence works; laziness never hitsA good name is more valuable than goldIntegrity builds a foundation that doesn't wobbleSpeaking life spreads joy like wildfireWisdom accepted? Instant life upgradeWhen God's voice becomes music to our ears, joy overflows. Even when life looks messy, He's working behind the scenes. What you treasure determines your seat time—and your seat time determines your harvest. Here's the kicker: Your inner dialogue is formed by what you actually listen to. So maybe the shift isn't complicated—it's intentional. Choose wisely what becomes the soundtrack of your life.Because wisdom isn't just heard—it's lived. And when God's voice is on repeat, joy isn't just optional—it's inevitable.Inchstones-The Vibe within bookhttps://a.co/d/4CYg4vGRegister for The VIBE Roomhttps://www.eventcreate.com/e/the-vibe-room-copy-326261-7854e4Join the VIBE communityhttps://thevibebykellycardenas.substack.com?r=4nn6y5&utm_medium=ios
Indy talks about a 90s hip-hop classic: E. 1999 Eternal by Bone Thugs-N-Harmony, Samantha ends an era with the docuseries Taylor Swift: The End of an Era, then we preview next week's big watch, the Zhang Yimou period drama Raise the Red Lantern. I Love This You Should Too is hosted by Samantha and Indy Randhawa 1999 Eternal is the second album by American hip-hop group Bone Thugs-n-Harmony, released July 25, 1995, on Ruthless Records. The album was released four months after the death of gangsta rapper Eazy-E, the group's mentor and the executive producer of the album. Both the album and single "Tha Crossroads" are dedicated to him. Following up on the surprise success of their breakthrough single "Thuggish Ruggish Bone", it became a popular album and received positive reviews from music critics, earning praise for the group's melodic rapping style. The album title is a portmanteau of Cleveland's eastside neighborhood centering on East 99th Street and St. Clair Avenue where the group is based and the then-future year 1999. Taylor Swift: The End of an Era is a 2025 American documentary miniseries about the singer-songwriter Taylor Swift's sixth concert tour, the Eras Tour (2023–2024), directed by filmmakers Don Argott and Sheena M. Joyce. The series consists of six episodes that follow the lives of Swift and her crew during the tour. It began streaming on Disney+ on December 12, 2025. Raise the Red Lantern is a 1991 period drama film directed by Zhang Yimou and starring Gong Li. It is an adaptation by Ni Zhen of the 1990 novella Raise the Red Lantern (originally Wives and Concubines) by Su Tong. A Chinese-Hong Kong co-production, the film was later adapted into a ballet of the same title by the National Ballet of China, also directed by Zhang. Set during the Warlord Era in the 1920s, the film tells the story of a young woman who becomes the fourth wife of a wealthy man. It was the fourth of nine collaborations between Zhang and Gong.

The year was 1995. Bill Clinton was president. The internet was still just a flicker in Al Gore's eye. Gas was $1.15 a gallon, and a group of rapid-fire harmonizing rappers from Cleveland, Ohio, was disrupting the whole East vs. West narrative with a completely new sound and approach. Under the wing of Eazy-E, Bone Thugs-N-Harmony kicked in the door with their debut EP Creepin' on a Come Up. Their follow-up, E. 1999 Eternal, didn't just build on that momentum; it launched them into the stratosphere. Powered by world-conquering singles like “1st of tha Month” and the Grammy-winning “Tha Crossroads,” the album went on to sell over four million copies. It also debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200, which was a huge deal for a Midwestern rap group at the time. On this week's episode of the Dad Bod Rap Pod, Nate, Dave, and DEM revisit this 1995 classic to assess how it has aged and how much cultural relevance it holds thirty years later. Tune in to find out how E. 1999 Eternal scores on the vaunted DBRP rubric.

On March 26, 1995, Eazy-E — the provocative rapper who helped pioneer gangsta rap and amplify the voice of South Central Los Angeles — died at the age of 31. As a founding member of N.W.A., Eazy's raw delivery and unapologetic lyrics on tracks like Boyz-n-the-Hood and F** tha Police* ignited a cultural revolution, putting the realities of inner-city life on the national stage. His solo career and role as a music executive further cemented his place in hip-hop history, even as feuds and controversies swirled around him. Diagnosed with AIDS just weeks before his death, Eazy's final days brought a shocking reminder of the epidemic's reach. Still, his legacy lives on—in music, fashion, and the rebellious spirit of rap—and he remains a towering figure in the story of West Coast hip-hop. On this episode, we're throwing it all the way back—counting down the Top 5 Albums of 1996, revisiting Eazy-E's It's On (Dr. Dre) 187um Killa, and diving into the nostalgic glory of TV trays. We also confess the dumbest “crimes” we committed as kids (you're not alone if you stole a candy bar), pay tribute to Bob Saget and America's Funniest Home Videos, and get pumped all over again for American Gladiators. Plus, fan mail shoutouts, epic Discord drops, and more nostalgic gold than a Trapper Keeper from ‘93.Today's episode was brought to you by Salty Water. Hydrate Your Inner Warrior! This week on Some Future Day, I had the honor of sitting down with two absolute legends: Lil Eazy-E, the son of iconic Eazy-E, and the one and only DJ Yella of N.W.A. We talked about the origins of hip hop: the real, raw, revolutionary movement that changed American culture and the world. How N.W.A. became a voice for the streets when no one else would listen. How music at one point carried the soul of the people and how much of that soul has gone missing. Today, Yella told me flat out, music's gotten fake. Artificial. AI is writing lyrics, mixing beats, and erasing the human experience. But Lil Eazy-E had a different take. What if he could use AI to bring back his father's voice? Not to fake the legacy, but to honor it. We explored that thin line between innovation and exploitation and asked, can AI ever replace authenticity or is something irreplaceable lost when machines take the mic? We didn't stop there. We talked about politics, race, legacy, and the need for respect between generations. We talked about the launch of their new Hip Hop Hot Sauce, international tours, and what it means to be from Compton and to make it out. This episode isn't just about music. It's about the future of culture, technology, storytelling, and soul. In the Winter of 1995, the former leader of hip hop's most notorious group, N.W.A., lay bed-ridden, pale, and connected to all manner of life-saving devices and fighting for every breath. At the time, Eazy was on top of his game when, seemingly out of nowhere, the iconic rapper developed a cough. At first, Eazy was diagnosed with bronchitis-related asthma and sent home three days after seeking medical care. The prescribed drugs didn't help. On February 24th, he was admitted to Cedars-Sinai to undergo extensive testing. The lab results shocked everyone, from fans to foes. Eric Wright was dying of AIDS. Within a month, the music mogul and rap pioneer would be dead. Only, the story doesn't end there. As we approach 30 years since the death of Eazy-E, questions remain. How did he contract AIDS? Why did he perish so quickly from a condition known to result in a slow demise? Could foul play have been involved? And what's the story behind his death-bed wedding to girlfriend Tomica Woods, and his much debated last will and testament?
