Meet Laur Elle — a rising indie-pop voice blending airy vocals, vivid storytelling, and lush soundscapes that invite listeners into a world of pure escapism.Born in Oklahoma and raised in Alberta, Canada, Laur Elle grew up balancing two worlds: the discipline of sport and the magic of words. As the daughter of a hockey coach and a former internationally competitive gymnast for Team Canada, she carried the focus of an athlete into her artistry. But it was poetry — and eventually music — where she unlocked her true voice. What began with poems turned into songs, what started as open mics became a passion, and soon Laur Elle found herself in studios co-writing and shaping a sound that bridges the intimacy of a singer-songwriter with the bold energy of pop. Drawing inspiration from storytellers like Taylor Swift, the playful edge of The 1975, and the raw honesty of artists like Halsey and Dominic Fike, she's carved out a sound that feels both nostalgic and new — dreamy yet grounded, escapist yet real. For Laur Elle, music is more than melody — it's medicine. With pen in hand and guitar close by, she channels her own emotions into songs designed to help others release theirs. Her tracks, described as “music for running (or driving) away from problems,” are made to soundtrack the moments when you need to breathe, feel, and just be.Still in her early 20s, Laur Elle is quickly establishing herself as an artist to watch. And while her journey started with words, it's her music — heartfelt, vulnerable, and vividly alive — that's proving she's found her calling. In this engaging conversation, Laur Elle shares her transformative journey from being a competitive gymnast in Canada to pursuing a career in music in Los Angeles. She reflects on the challenges of identity, the creative process of songwriting, and the importance of vulnerability in her art. Laur Elle discusses her inspirations, the evolution of her music, and the lessons learned along the way, emphasizing the significance of trusting one's intuition and embracing the messiness of the creative journey. The conversation highlights the power of connection and the impact of sharing one's story with others, especially for women in the creative industry.Chapters00:00 From Gymnastics to Music: A Journey of Transformation03:04 Exploring Identity and Artistic Expression05:46 The Creative Process: Writing Songs and Finding Inspiration09:01 Navigating Vulnerability and Connection in Music11:59 Influences and Inspirations: Shaping the Artist's Sound14:54 The Evolution of Music: New Projects and Self-Discovery17:51 Overcoming Doubts: The Reality of Being an Artist21:04 Legacy and Impact: Inspiring Future Generations24:03 Trusting Your Intuition: Advice for Creatives26:52 Embracing the Messiness of the Creative Journey30:02 Memorable Moments: The Power of Connection32:58 Lessons Learned: Advice from the Journey35:57 The Importance of Vulnerability in Art38:54 Final Thoughts: Trusting Yourself and Your VoiceConnect with Laur Elle: Website: https://laurellemusic.com/Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/artist/5DQPhXyByXuh4DxLjHm7UH?si=oHE1SzouSFSz63Dx7H0XSw&nd=1Apple Music: Connect with The Women On Top: Follow The Women On Top Podcast on Apple, Spotify, or anywhere you get your podcasts. Dominic Fike (Euphoria, Rocket, What Could Possibly Go Wrong) is a singer, musician, and actor. Dominic joins the Armchair Expert to discuss growing up around high-functioning relationships in Florida, how being raised by addicts factors into having a big heart, and wanting to cry when he thinks about the points of departure he's found with his family. Dominic and Dax talk about having that friend in his head that never lets him be different, how somatic therapy has helped him give form and a voice to his shadow, and starting to make his own music under house arrest. Dominic explains signing a multi-million dollar record deal while incarcerated, what it was like recording with Justin Bieber, and why when you go to treatment everyone gives you the grace to change at the same time.Follow Armchair Expert on the Wondery App or wherever you get your podcasts. It is a privilege to welcome alt-pop recording artist and producer ROHAN to The Jake's Take with Jacob Elyachar Podcast. ROHAN was an Australian kid with big dreams. Indian parents raised him in Australia and Singapore. He was introduced to music through Australian Idol and Green Day's American Idiot, which led him to explore computers and front bands in Melbourne and Singapore. After high school, he moved to California and attended Stanford to continue exploring his love for technology and music. Now, out of his own studio in San Francisco and pulling inspiration from Australian recording artists such as Skeggs, 90s R&B and hip-hop such as Ms. Lauryn Hill, and contemporary pop artists like Dominic Fike, he's ready to officially introduce himself with his own blend of Australian indie rock with R&B, electronic, and folk musical influences that form his self-produced confessional alt-pop anthems. Earlier in 2025, ROHAN opened for Chappell Roan's favorite pop artist, Devon Again, at her sold-out show in San Francisco. He also opened for Contradash, Frex, and Marco Luka. In October, he will be supporting Will Paquin when he visits the city. On this episode of The Jake's Take with Jacob Elyachar Podcast, ROHAN spoke about performing alongside Green Day, overcoming challenges while staying in the music industry, and shared the stories behind some of his most-streamed Spotify songs.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/jake-s-take-with-jacob-elyachar--4112003/support.
The musical landscape of September 2024 unfolds like a treasure map of sonic discoveries as Matt Sidhom and guest co-host Jen Tully navigate through twelve diverse new releases that defy easy categorization. They kick things off with the track, "Everybody Scream," from Florence and the Machine's upcoming sixth album, which creates a space where women don't have to "be quiet" or "be kind" – a witchy celebration of unrestrained feminine power. Meanwhile, Role Model's infectious "Sally When the Wine Runs Out" has transformed into a cultural moment, with celebrities from Natalie Portman to Al Roker taking turns as the song's namesake during live performances. The conversation shifts to gritty territory with Idles' "Rabbit Run," where Joe Talbot's distinctive Cockney delivery powers the soundtrack to Austin Butler's new film. This leads into Old Dominion's surprisingly affecting "Miss You Man," a country ballad that captures male friendship and grief with remarkable authenticity. Wet Leg reveals unexpected vulnerability with "Pokemon," a softer departure from their typically harder-edged sound, while Doja Cat delivers another potential hit with "Jealous Type" . The musical journey continues through jam band territory with Goose's soulful "Madelena," the country-rap fusion of BigXThaPlug and Shaboozey's "Home," and the truly unexpected "Clockwork" by Laufey, which sounds like a Disney princess number addressing thoroughly modern themes. The episode closes with universal praise for Dominic Fike's "Sandman," a perfect blend of hip-hop, rap, and old-school R&B influences that showcases why he remains one of music's most exciting voices. Linktree: https://linktr.ee/AnalyticIn this segment of Notorious Mass Effect, Analytic Dreamz breaks down "Love Hangover," the latest collaboration between Jennie, the iconic BLACKPINK member, and Dominic Fike, the versatile American singer-songwriter known for his indie-pop vibes. Released on January 31, 2025, "Love Hangover" not only signifies a new chapter in Jennie's solo career but also marks her debut album "Ruby," set for release on March 7, 2025. The track, produced by Jennie and Ido Zmishlany with Dominic Fike's distinctive touch, blends retro soul with contemporary pop, delving into the theme of love's intoxicating, often toxic nature. The music video, directed by Bradley & Pablo and starring Riverdale's Charles Melton alongside Jennie, is a visual feast. It begins with Melton at Jennie's grave, leading into a narrative where Jennie returns from the dead, symbolizing an inability to move on from a destructive relationship. With scenes like Jennie choking on an engagement ring and being struck by lightning, the video's imagery powerfully complements the song's lyrics about being stuck in a cycle of unhealthy love.On Spotify, "Love Hangover" quickly made its mark, featured on Today's Top Hits with over 70 million playlist reach in the first hour. In South Korea, it debuted at #17 on Bugs and #118 on Genie, though it did not chart on Melon at the time of recording. While exact Billboard rankings were not yet available, the song's global appeal through streaming platforms is undeniable. The cultural impact is evident through fan engagement, with #JENNIE_LoveHangover trending on social media, driving organic streaming. Upcoming live performances in Los Angeles, New York, and Seoul from March 6-10, 2025, are anticipated to further amplify its commercial success. The high-profile nature of the music video also positions "Love Hangover" for potential TV and movie placements.Analytic Dreamz concludes that "Love Hangover" successfully merges K-pop with indie-pop, appealing to a diverse audience through its storytelling, visual artistry, and emotional resonance, setting the stage for further chart success and a vibrant tour.Support this podcast at — https://redcircle.com/analytic-dreamz-notorious-mass-effect/donationsAdvertising Inquiries: https://redcircle.com/brandsPrivacy & Opt-Out: https://redcircle.com/privacy

One of the tips I often give to newcomers in Denmark is to learn Danish through song lyrics. Find a Danish lyricist whose music you enjoy listening to on repeat. The repetition will help you get a feel for how the Danish language flows, and you'll have something to dance to during those long, dark winter months. I did this myself when I first arrived in Denmark, and learned a great deal of Danish from the witty, self-mocking songs of Carsten Lykke. Here are a few suggestions for your own Danish lyrics journey. While comparing musical artists is tricky, here are a few suggestions to get you started. (I've put them all together in a Spotify Playlist and a YouTube Playlist for you.)

Writer / Director Savanah Leaf and star Tia Nomore discuss their new film, Earth Mama, the importance of found family, media representation, and the challenges of recreating an Oakland sideshow. More about Earth Mama With two children in foster care, Gia, a pregnant single mother pitted against the system, fights to reclaim her family. In her close-knit Bay Area community, she works to make a life for herself and her kids, in this singular debut feature from filmmaker Savanah Leaf. A glowing breakout at the 2023 Sundance Film Festival. Starring Tia Nomore, Erika Alexander, Doechii, and Dominic Fike. More about Savanah Leaf Savanah Leaf is an Olympian and award-winning filmmaker, whose work weaves magical realism with poignant social commentary. Her latest film The Heart Still Hums (2020) is a short documentary following the stories of five women as they fight for their children through the cycle of homelessness, drug addiction and neglect from their own parents. The film won Best Documentary Short at the Palm Springs International ShortFest, BlackStar Film Festival and Nashville Film Festival and was released with Fox Searchlight Shorts. Her music video ‘This Land' for Gary Clark Jr. was nominated for Best Music Video at the 2020 Grammys. Other recent films include: ‘What's Going On', a film made for Marvin Gaye's 1971 hit song, commissioned by Universal Music's ‘Never Made' series, ‘Dream', a film set to Nikki Giovanni's poem and Flying Lotus' music, commissioned by the 2020 Biden/Harris campaign; ‘We Matter Too', a Webby and Shots award-winning animated visualization of phone calls she conducted with incarcerated people during the COVID-19 Pandemic, commissioned by rapper Common, the ARC and ACLU. More about Tia Nomore Coming up in cypher circles and freestyle battle arenas, Tia Nomore forced her entry into hip-hop's boys club. The 28-year-old's claim as Oakland rap's little sister started as a teenager when she would jump into her older brother's rap circles and ditch class to record G-funk- inspired hyphy music. Now a fully realized artist and experienced Oakland emcee with three records under her belt — 2019's Level, 2018's Gooney Tunes (alongside Bruh from Last Night and MVCK) and 2016 Halloween— Tia's fiery wits, lyrical dismantling and command for respect, continue to bring her to new bold artistic territory. The past two years have seen her sharing stages with Princess Nokia and Smino, and releasing singles “DRIP” and “Skirmish,” two addictive collaborations with fellow Town girl and rapper Stoni. Earth Mama is in theaters now. Find us at www.werewatchingwhat.com or instagram.com/werewatchingwhat THEDHK can be found at instagram.com/thedhk , twitter.com/thedhk, and facebook.com/thedhkmovies

Quelle aventure attend François Berléand dans « Last dance ! » ? Vers quelle inspiration va Mélanie De Biasio dans son nouveau titre ? Tara uses her hubby's laptop often and when we went print an email, she discovered some sassy stories starring her that hubs had asked Chat GPT to write! Does she say that she saw that or just recreate one of the scenes?? We put Becca in the hot seat in Minute to Win it for Dominic Fike tickets, sling some #DadJokes at each other and the $85000 Facebook Marketplace chair is NUTs!

So. Many. Hysterical. Gym. Stories. All thanks to this poor woman who was captured on video getting pantsed by the treadmill! Then in Group Therapy, Nate doesn't get why his girlfriend doesn't want him swinging by the mechanic shop she works at to deliver coffee ever...she says it's unprofessional. Or is there some work flirting going on? TBT was FIRE today and we gave out more tickets to Dominic Fike!
So much to unpack for the midweek show! In Group Therapy we tackle whether "looking single for my sales job" is a valid excuse for why he doesn't shared he has a girlfriend on social media. We gave away some Dominic Fike tickets, learn where NOT to look for unique birthday gifts, search for the hot puker at the casino, and Kelly might get fired for testing out the new autocorrect in some dicey texts to Ben!
We have 60 seconds for Riley to answer 10 simple pop-culture questions for free tickets to Dominic Fike at Iroquois Amphitheater! Plus we got to learn all about deodorant. lol

When some adorable girl on Tik Tok gets 49 million views for making herself sneeze and keeping her eyes open...Ben makes us try it. Nothing but #tearandstupidity! LOL Plus we help Desi feel better about her dumb injury with TONS of hilarious stories! Plus more Dominic Fike tickets and a new pickle-loving #PhoneTap!
Ben made an admission today about his cleanliness that lead to a bigger issue in his household...LOL! In Group Therapy, she accidentally saw paperwork left on a copier that showed her co-worker with less experience in making more than her. What does she do with that? We got a DM from a listener whose boyfriend wants her to unfollow all the guys they know...there is a reason why. But is it too controlling? We gave away some tickets to see Dominic Fike and shared some funny embarrassing stories!
