Ces dernières semaines, Renault s’est beaucoup affiché dans les colonnes des journaux économiques, et pas pour de bonnes raisons. Déjà en mauvaise posture avant la crise générée par le Covid, le groupe tricolore traverse un sacré orage, avec des finances dans le rouge et une douloureuse réorganisation. Le constructeur a notamment annoncé la fermeture du site de Choisy-le-Roi ou l’arrêt de l’assemblage des voitures à Flins, sur les bords de Seine. En tout, le constructeur prévoit de réduire sa capacité de production de 4 à 3,3 millions de véhicules dans le monde et de supprimer près 15 000 emplois. Organiser le second tour des élections municipales le 28 juin ? Ou revoter deux tours en janvier 2021 dans les 5 000 communes de France qui n’ont pas élu leur maire au premier tour durant le confinement ? « Le feuilleton n’est pas terminé », souligne Le Parisien. « Mais le calendrier et la méthode se précisent (…) Ce devrait être le 28 juin », si la situation sanitaire le permet, complète ce quotidien. Certes, gouverner, c’est peut-être trancher, mais ce choix qui s’offre au gouvernement, c’est ce qu’en référence à l’impossible quadrature du cercle, la Une du journal Libération appelle « la quadrature des urnes ». « Alors finissons-en, lance ce quotidien ! Autant c’était une erreur flagrante de les maintenir le 15 mars, au moment où l’épidémie explosait (…) autant il apparaît raisonnable de les tenir le 28 juin si une deuxième vague n’est pas apparue d’ici là. Il ne semble pas y avoir plus de risques à défiler dans un bureau de vote en respectant les gestes barrières, masqué et muni de son propre stylo, qu’à faire la queue dans une épicerie ou boire un verre sur l’herbe avec des amis. » Mais pour la majorité, il y a un problème de taille à Paris. Le premier tour a été un vrai cauchemar pour la candidate LREM Agnès Buzyn : L’ex-ministre de la Santé était arrivée troisième à l’issue du premier tour et elle avait enchaîné par des déclarations fracassantes au journal Le Monde. Aussi, le journal Libération ne voit-il « pas comment Agnès Buzyn pourrait porter les couleurs de LREM après l’étalage public de ses regrets et surtout les révélations sur la déplorable gestion des commandes de masques sous sa tutelle ». Pour ne rien arranger, Libé souligne qu’un(e) remplaçant(e) « n’aurait pas assez de temps pour faire campagne. Il fallait y penser plus tôt », estime ce journal. La France souhaite le maintien l’an prochain de règles de disciplines budgétaires assouplies du pacte de stabilité et de croissance de l’euro : C’est ce que dit Bruno Le Maire au journal Le Figaro. « Nous souhaitons que les règles du pacte de stabilité, suspendues pour 2020, le soient également pour 2021 ». Car selon le ministre de l’Économie, « rien ne serait pire que de relancer la machine économique tout en appuyant sur le frein des dépenses publiques ». Selon Bruno Le Maire, « c'est une erreur qui a été commise en 2009 et que nous ne commettrons pas à nouveau », dit-il au Figaro. Par ailleurs Bruno Le Maire souligne dans cet entretien au Figaro que le constructeur automobile Renault « joue sa survie » et souligne qu'il n’a pas encore donné « signé » le prêt de 5 milliards d'euros en faveur du constructeur, Renault devant prendre des engagements notamment sur le maintien en France de ses « activités technologiquement les plus avancées ». Selon le quotidien économique Les Echos, Renault, qui prépare un plan de deux milliards d’euros d’économie, envisagerait de fermer trois sites en France et d'arrêter la production de véhicules à Flins, non loin de Paris. Social, avec cette idée qui revient en France, celle de l’instauration d’un revenu universel : Ou plutôt un revenu « républicain ». C’est la Fondation Jean-Jaurès qui le propose. Proche du Parti socialiste, cette fondation a rédigé une note dont le contenu est révélé par le quotidien Libération. Ce revenu « républicain » de base serait « compris entre 725 et 1 000 euros par mois », il serait « inconditionnel », pointe ce journal, il serait « automatique » à partir de 18 ans, sans démarche administrative à effectuer) et « dégressif ». Pour le financer, la Fondation Jean Jaurès préconise de passer par des fonds européens, mais aussi par l’impôt, « préférant taxer le capital plutôt que le travail », et il serait créé « par une convention citoyenne », complète Libé. Lui n’aura pas besoin de revenu universel. C’est ce gagnant d’un jeu de hasard en France, qui a dû conserver son ticket pendant toute la durée du confinement : Un ticket à 17 millions d’euros ! Mais un jackpot impossible à encaisser car remporté le 20 mars. Les Français étaient alors confinés comme jamais. Que faire ? C’est le journal Le Parisien qui raconte l’histoire de ce très heureux mais très fébrile gagnant, qui a dû prendre son mal en patience avec son précieux ticket, conservé dans la coque de son téléphone portable. La cachette s’est révélée judicieuse, car ledit téléphone, qui ne le quittait pas d’un pouce, il ne l’a pas perdu. Et c’est heureux pour ce veinard car, sinon, le déconfinement aurait, pour lui, tourné à la… déconfiture.

L'impact économique et social de la pandémie de covid-19 commence à se faire durement sentir en France. Et l'un des fleurons de l'industrie française, Renault, est frappé de plein fouet. Le constructeur automobile « annoncera la semaine prochaine un vaste plan de restructuration, pointe Le Figaro, avec la fermeture probable de trois usines françaises, à Dieppe, Caudan et Choisy-le-Roi. Le site historique de Flins sera quant à lui reconverti. Ce dossier est particulièrement sensible pour l’État, relève encore Le Figaro, contraint de venir en aide au constructeur, dont il est actionnaire à 15 %, avec un crédit garanti de 5 milliards d’euros. Édouard Philippe affirme qu’il sera "intransigeant" sur la préservation des sites en France, mais, à droite comme à gauche, l’opposition s’insurge déjà contre les projets de Renault. » En fait, commente La Provence, « Renault a pris la crise du Covid-19 de plein fouet, comme l’ensemble de la filière automobile. L’activité a chuté de 80% en Europe. Le constructeur paie aussi ses erreurs de stratégie avec Nissan, le mariage avorté avec Fiat, le virage électrique tardif. Heureusement, à l’image des Clio et SUV, ses véhicules plaisent encore. Tout n’est pas perdu donc, d’autant que le gouvernement met le paquet en lui garantissant un prêt de 5 milliards. Il faut sauver le soldat Renault, égérie d’une armée nationale prise à revers par un virus. Et le sauver coûte que coûte. » « L’automobile est-elle essentielle ?, s'interroge Sud-Ouest. Celle du monde d’hier, encombrante, polluante, bruyante, ne l’est plus. Mais celle des nouvelles mobilités, hybride, silencieuse, connectée, le reste tant le déplacement individuel demeure une demande sociale forte. L’enjeu est donc de savoir si la nouvelle crise que traverse Renault va lui être fatale, ou si elle va être un accélérateur de la mutation que le constructeur a engagée. » Faillites et licenciements en vue ? En tout cas, « l’affaire Renault fait désordre, relève Libération, au moment même où l’État met la main au portefeuille pour aider une entreprise considérée comme stratégique et qui reste un symbole de l’industrie française. Surtout quand chaque jour apporte son lot de mauvaises nouvelles sur le front des défaillances d’entreprises et des plans sociaux. La semaine dernière, le textile et le meuble n’ont pas été à la fête, rappelle Libération. Alinea a déposé le bilan et Conforama est à deux doigts de le suivre, si un prêt ne lui est pas accordé. Un peu plus tôt, l’enseigne de vêtements Naf Naf a déposé le bilan, suivant en cela les chaussures André, et le distributeur de cravates Tie Rack. Quant à la Halle aux vêtements, elle cherche un repreneur pour ses 800 magasins et 5 548 salariés. Faute de candidat, cette enseigne depuis longtemps en difficultés prendra, elle aussi, le chemin du tribunal de commerce. » Et Libération de s'interroger : « Faut-il en déduire que les multiples mesures de soutien à l’économie mises en œuvre depuis mars, ne peuvent empêcher faillites et licenciements ? A ce jour, l’Etat a garanti plus de 100 milliards d’euros de prêts au bénéfice de 50 000 entreprises. Le chômage partiel a indemnisé 12 millions de salariés. Les loyers et charges sociales peuvent être suspendus. Efficace pour les entreprises en bonne santé financière au moment de l’entrée en confinement. Mais aujourd’hui insuffisant pour les plus fragiles. (...) Le pire reste à venir, prévient Libération. Les reports de charges sociales de loyers et les prêts garantis par l’État vont devoir être remboursés d’ici quelques mois. Un "mur de dettes" va ainsi se créer et bon nombre d’entreprises ne pourront faire face à ces échéances. » L'emploi menacé Du coup, « avis de tempête sur l'emploi », lance Le Parisien en première page. D'après une enquête publiée par le journal, « plus d’un chef d’entreprise sur cinq pense qu’il sera contraint de licencier dans les mois qui viennent, conséquence du choc sans précédent encaissé par l’économie française du fait de la crise sanitaire. (...) Déjà, de grands groupes internationaux comme Airbnb, Sodexo, TUI, Uber… ont annoncé des licenciements à venir, sans préciser l’ampleur des dégâts en France. Et des entreprises tricolores fragilisées avant l’épidémie, dans les secteurs de l’ameublement et du textile, ont désormais la tête sous l’eau. Des milliers d’emplois sont menacés. Et cela, sans compter les difficultés qui pèsent sur la filière automobile. » Enfin, il n'y a pas que les salariés... « Les indépendants sont sans filet face à la crise sanitaire », s'exclame Le Monde. « Leurs revenus s’étagent de 330 euros par mois pour les livreurs à domicile à 8 800 euros pour les médecins. Un grand écart qui témoigne de l’hétérogénéité des situations parmi les près de 3,2 millions de personnes non salariées en France. Les indépendants exercent en effet dans des domaines très différents. (...) Leur point commun, relève Le Monde : ils n’ont pas de lien de subordination juridique permanent à l’égard d’un donneur d’ordre et ne disposent pas de contrat de travail. De ce fait, ils ne bénéficient pas de la protection du droit du travail ou du régime d’assurance-chômage. Ils sont donc particulièrement vulnérables en période de crise et celle-ci ne les a pas épargnés. » Et Le Monde de s'interroger : « combien de ces chauffeurs, professeurs de yoga, coiffeurs à domicile ou free-lances vont pouvoir repartir après la crise ? »

Malgré le déconfinement en cours beaucoup d’entre nous continuent à travailler depuis leur domicile. Pour des raisons de sécurité mais aussi par choix. Le télétravail est-il en train devenir la nouvelle norme de l’entreprise ? Les sondages réalisés en France sont unanimes : les salariés plébiscitent cette expérience, et leurs employeurs aussi. Ces derniers étaient les plus réticents à l’égard de cette organisation du travail, et finalement ils découvrent que l’entreprise continue à tourner, sans baisse notoire de productivité ; les salariés se disent même plus concentrés, plus efficaces. Le constructeur automobile PSA a donc décidé d’en faire la règle dorénavant pour tous les emplois non liés à la production. Car bien sûr le télétravail n’est pas universel. En France seulement un emploi sur trois est potentiellement concerné. C’est dans la tech américaine que la bascule vers la maison est la plus avancée. Chez Twitter les employés sont maintenant libres de rester chez eux toute l’année. Un voeu qui demeure minoritaire. La plupart préfèrent panacher jours de bureaux et télétravail. Car le travail à la maison se révèle parfois harassant pour les salariés Certains travaillent trop, n’arrivent pas à décrocher. D’autres sont perturbés par leurs enfants. Et puis il y a ceux qui souffrent de l’isolement. Un sentiment très partagé parmi les plus jeunes. Les rencontres à la machine à café finissent par manquer mais aussi les occasions de se faire reconnaitre par sa hiérarchie et d’évoluer au sein de l’entreprise. Veiller au bien être des salariés éloignés du bureau est le nouveau défi que doivent relever les DRH et les représentants des salariés. L’autre défi pour les employeurs c’est de conserver un environnement favorable à l’innovation. Pas évident de cultiver une atmosphère favorisant la créativité avec un personnel atomisé. À l’avenir le télétravail pourrait aussi bouleverser la carte mondiale de l’emploi Le scénario redouté par les salariés, c’est la concurrence des diplômés vivant dans les pays émergents. À moyen terme le télétravail pourrait aboutir à la délocalisation silencieuse des cols blancs. C’est un risque. Mais dans l’immédiat c’est d’abord vécu par le salarié comme une opportunité de déménager où il le souhaite vivre. Une tendance très nette en Californie où les employés de la tech rêvent de s’installer dans des États où le logement est plus abordable. Aux États-Unis le télétravail pourrait accélérer la migration des villes côtières vers l’intérieur. Les géants du net qui ont investi dans des sièges prestigieux aux centres des villes pour attirer les meilleurs talents doivent-ils repenser leur localisation ? Certaines entreprises domiciliées au coeur de New York, à Manhattan, ont déjà annoncé qu’elles mettaient un terme à leur bail. Pour prendre en compte le télétravail mais aussi pour faire des économies. Les bureaux ne vont pas nécessairement disparaitre mais ils vont peut-être déménagés. Pour se redéployer plus près des salariés, dans les banlieues par exemple, où l'immobilier est moins cher. Et surtout ils seront réaménagés, pour tenir compte des nouvelles normes de distanciation sociale. Une perspective qui là aussi pourrait encourager le télétravail. EN BREF En France le groupe Renault envisage de fermer 4 usines. Le constructeur automobile prépare un plan d'économies de 2 milliards d'euros qui passe, d'après le Canard Enchainé, par la fermeture de 4 sites dont celui de Flins où est fabriquée la Zoé électrique, il ne serait pas définitivement fermé mais affecté à une autre activité.

Particularly interesting was the fact that the vehicle was captured on film in broad daylight, providing a brief yet notable glimpse at just how futuristic Tesla’s heavyweight pickup really is compared to other vehicles on the road." Based on the video, the vehicle seemed to be passing through Crenshaw Blvd. right in front of the construction of The Millenium apartment near SpaceX headquarters in Hawthorne, CA. The sighting appeared to have happened in the afternoon as well, based on the shadows of the vehicles in the area."   https://www.teslarati.com/tesla-cybertruck-first-public-sighting-video/   FISKER OPENS RESERVATIONS FOR OCEAN SUV; COST STARTS AS LOW AS $379/MONTH "Fisker Inc. opened reservations for the Ocean electric luxury SUV, arriving in 2022, through its website and native mobile app—available globally on the App Store and Google Play store. Reservations are set at US$250 per vehicle and are fully refundable." reports Green Car Congress today: "The all-electric SUV will come standard with a range target of approximately 250 to 300 miles, depending on driving conditions, enabled by an approx. 80 kWh lithium-ion battery pack.The Fisker Ocean is targeted to begin production at the end of 2021, with the first high-volume deliveries projected for 2022. The Fisker app offers a flexible lease program, maintenance and repair on demand, insurance purchase to easy finance options. Overall, customers will be introduced to a different brand experience via Fisker’s unique mobile app platform, which may also include mobility options such as green ride-hailing, carpooling and vehicle sharing in the future. Drivers can get behind the wheel of the Fisker Ocean starting at US$379 per month (with $2,999 down before delivery in 2022, which includes both initiation and activation fees). Fisker will also offer a “$0 drive off” option through a fully financed $2,999 down payment for credit approved customers."   From Henrik Fisker: "Our mission is to become the No. 1 e-mobility service provider on Earth, featuring the world’s most desirable and sustainable vehicles while shaking up the old automotive industry model—from the way a customer attains a vehicle, chooses affordable insurance, services a vehicle to the overall mobility experience."   https://www.greencarcongress.com/2019/11/20191127-fiskerocean.html   TESLA ASKS SUPPLIERS TO ACCELERATE MODEL Y PART DELIVERIES "Elon Musk recently announced that Tesla is accelerating the timeline to bring Model Y to production in the summer of 2020, but now suppliers hint that it could happen even sooner." reports Electrek: "We recently learned that Tesla is working on a fifth assembly line at the Fremont factory as the automaker is preparing the production of its fifth electric vehicle.But now a report from Taiwan about several Tesla suppliers claim that the automaker has requested that they expedite shipments of parts for Model Y to the current quarter. United Daily News in Taiwan reported (translated from Chinese):“Recently, Tesla has been successively notified that it requires advance preparation for Model Y mass production, which is about six months earlier than the original schedule.”  it seems clear that Tesla is planning to start low volume production relatively soon. While petrol and diesel models have depreciated between January 2017 and November 2019, EVs have seen appreciating values." says Chris Lilly at Next Green Car: "Looking at the four most searched for electric models on the company's site - BMW's i3, the Nissan Leaf, Renault's Zoe, and the Tesla Model S - prices either rose or remained level for months at a time. In most cases, they significantly out-performed the most searched for petrol and diesel equivalents over the same period. The average asking price for a used 2015 Renault Zoe increased by 18% between January 2017 to November 2019, from £6,425 to £7,612. To compare, the Ford Fiesta of the same age decreased by 22% from £9,165 to £7,160 over the same period. BMW i3 values increased by 1% based on 2014 examples, while petrol or diesel Mini hatchbacks by comparison fell by 14%, both since the start of the year. A 2015 Nissan Leaf sees an average drop in value of just 9% from January 2017 at £10,438. Same age petrol or diesel VW Golf models dropped by 17% over the same period."   https://www.nextgreencar.com/news/8799/used-ev-values-increasing-with-demand/   GLOBAL VOLKSWAGEN E-GOLF SALES REACH 100,000 BEFORE LAUNCH OF ID.3 "Before the ID.3 was even unveiled in September, Volkswagen announced that it had received more than 30,000 pre-orders for the sub-brand-launching electric hatchback. Its predecessor, the e-Golf, didn't have nearly as splashy of a launch, but it recently hit a milestone of its own. Volkswagen has officially delivered 100,000 e-Golfs." according to Autoblog: "e-Golf production at the Dresden plant is on pace to set a new record in 2019, as Volkswagen believes it will see an output of more than 16,000 vehicles built. In total, roughly 27,900 e-Golfs were delivered to customers from January through October, 2019, up from 24,800 deliveries in all of 2018."   https://www.autoblog.com/2019/11/27/volkswagen-electric-golf-sales-reach-100k/   RENAULT ZOE REACHED NEW MILESTONE: 200.000 UNITS PRODUCED On 25 November 2019, at 3.10 pm, a pearl black New Renault ZOE Intens rolled off the production line at the Renault plant in Flins sur Seine (Yvelines) to loud applause. It was the 200,000th electric vehicle to be built on the site since production of the 1st generation Renault ZOE began in 2012.   For this special occasion, the lucky Dutch buyer and the director of the Renault concession that sold the vehicle were invited to Flins. Jean-Luc Mabire, Plant Director, symbolically handed over the keys to this New ZOE to its delighted owner. Hello and welcome to the Friday 15th June edition of EV News Daily. It’s Martyn Lee here with the news you need to know about electric cars and the move towards sustainable transport.   MORE JAGUAR I-PACE REVIEWS Do you remember a week or so ago, the first batch of I-PACE reviews hit the net from the largest video and magazine channels. Now it seems the next wave of website this time have had their time in the car, as it seemed another set of reviews all appeared today.   Starting with Seth writing for Electrek, one of 20 writers at the event: "I noticed that I was one of the only folks with any EV experience. While its 240-mile 400HP AWD electric drivetrain certainly screams SUV, its actual body shape, internal space and ride make it feel more like a sedan. If anything, it feels closest to a Tesla Model 3 inside, especially with its glass roof, but that’s beyond a stretch. Jaguar has beautiful and tasteful buttons, knobs and a small screen while Tesla’s spartan interior UI is simply a large touch screen with two simple knobs on the steering wheel. The official charging rate of the I-PACE is 100kW but I was told that a future OTA software update could push charging to over 110kW, closer to 120kW No one is going to mistake the I-PACE for a Tesla unless they are fresh out of ideas and need some clickbait." I'm sure if you tune into the Electrek podcast there will be a lot of chat about it. Engadget: "One of the most important addition is support for over-the-air updates. While a majority of the features in the I-Pace are cribbed from other Jags and Land Rovers, this one is clearly borrowed from Tesla. Musk's company set a precedent with its OTA updates and it's good to see other automakers following suit. Consumers are used to seeing their other tech devices update without having to visit a service center, there's no reason the biggest computer they own shouldn't do it as well." ArsTechnica: "The Jaguar I-Pace might just be the most significant new car we'll drive this year. Heat management was a key concern, and there are actually three separate cooling systems: one for the cabin, one for the battery, and a third just for the control electronics. The batteries are happiest at between 30C and 40C. Under the European WLTP cycle, the I-Pace has been rated at 400km of range. The more accurate EPA test the US uses hasn't been completed yet, but Jaguar says you should get at least 240 miles from a full charge. As with every other EV we've tested, you can change the I-Pace's regenerative braking setting between high and low. Set to high, you can really drive it with just the accelerator pedal, as it will decelerate with a vigor when you lift your foot (up to 0.4G in fact). Active Sound Design. Set to Calm, the car's speakers will, in addition to playing music or the radio, add some active noise cancellation to increase the serenity of your journey. But you can also go a different route by setting the slider to Dynamic. This augments those normal EV sounds with a bit more oomph as you floor it. I'm hard pressed to describe the sound, which falls somewhere between a turbine and a growl. Sure, it's artificial, but it's also kind of awesome."   https://electrek.co/2018/06/14/jaguar-i-pace-review-the-240-mile-luxury-sport-utility-is-everything/ https://www.engadget.com/2018/06/14/2019-jaguar-ipace-review/ https://arstechnica.com/cars/2018/06/forget-about-that-tesla-the-jaguar-i-pace-is-the-most-compelling-ev-yet/     RENAULT INVEST IN EV PRODUCTION "Renault will invest more than 1 billion euros ($1.2 billion) to increase electric vehicle production capacity in France and add new models, the carmaker said on Thursday" according to Reuters: "The Zoe production line in Flins, west of Paris, will double its maximum output with the battery-powered subcompact’s next upgrade, the company said in a statement, and its northern Douai factory will tool up to build electric cars on a new architecture shared with Japanese affiliate Nissan." Renault Chairman and Chief Executive Carlos Ghosn: "“The acceleration of our investments in France for electric vehicles will increase the competitiveness and attractiveness of our French industrial sites”. The Cleon plant will triple its electric motor production capacity, while Maubeuge in eastern France receives tooling investment for the next Kangoo van including its electric version, Renault said.   http://europe.autonews.com/article/20180614/ANE/180619840/renault-will-invest-1-billion-euros-in-french-ev-production   RENAULT JOINS E-VIA FLEX-E FAST-CHARGING PROJECT Meanwhile, Electrans has more news on Renault as they've: "partnered with a number of European utilities and international car makers to join the E-VIA FLEX-E project, an initiative to expand high-power charging facilities across the continent." "The extra-urban network will comprise high-power stations with a capacity of between 150kW and 350kW, located along motorways and expressways. Alongside Renault and Enel, partners include EDF, Enedis and Verbund, Nissan and Ibil, a Spanish company which specialises in EV charging services." Autonews go on to say: "the E-VIA FLEX-E network will join that of the EVA+ (Electric Vehicles Arteries) project, also co-financed by the European Commission, which will support 180 fast charging points (Fast Recharge Plus) built over three years along Italian extra-urban corridors. The first 40 Fast stations have already been installed along the Rome-Milan route, among others. Italy alone expects to install 7,000 stations across the country by 2020, doubled to 14,000 this by 2022."   NISSAN COULD BRING EPOWER TO EUROPE One of the regional variations around the world is the ePower drivetrain Nissan use in Japan. It first appeared on the small minivan Nissan Note and in both 2017, and in Q1 of this year, it's Japan's best selling vehicle. In fact 70% of all Note's are driven by ePower. And now Nissan is contemplating bringing ePower to the European market. Nissan could just move forward with pure electrics, after all they have the World's most popular EV in the LEAF which have 300,000 on the roads. But all car makers have more than one eye on the impending European CO2 targets which come into force from 2020, and are based on the emissions of the entire fleet of cars you sell. But what is ePower? It's most similar the range extender tech in the BMW i3 which everyone understands but it's subtly different. The car comes with a small gas engine which can work in it's optimal rev range all the time so it's most efficient, and works as a generator to charge a battery. You never plug it in because there is no plug. “We can do a 48-volt mild hybrid, or we can do a plug-in hybrid, but what is most interesting right now is the success we have had with ePower technology,” Ponz Pandikuthira, vice president of product planning, told Automotive News Europe.“ePower in Japan makes more money than Note made before we launched ePower. It’s an economies-of-scale thing,” he said. “It’s a very favorable equation. That is why we need to invest in this technology and bring it to markets outside of Japan.” Nissan has said it will bring ePower to the U.S., likely as an option on higher-end vehicles. The technology also will form a big part of Nissan’s electrification of the Infiniti line-up in 2021. Even though you put dinosaurs into it and not electrons, it's up to 15% more efficient than a diesel under the new WLTP testing. I think this is very interesting technology, and could strike a chord with buyers as Toyota are doing the groundwork with their advertising campaigns for their soft hybrids, but telling buyers they sell electric cars which charge themselves. Perhaps as a stop gap, i can see this technology working. And the fact it's so much cheaper for car makers makes me think they might try to push it - as the battery always drives the wheel plus the battery is smaller. However saying that, and looking at the rapidly changing economics of batteries, i can see it being a technology which ends up not being needed. If the costs keep coming down, at cell level and battery pack level, pure EV's will be cheaper than any other form of propulsion.   EVGO UPGRADES MORE THAN 20 FAST CHARGERS EVgo say they're making the electric vehicle charging experience as easy as possible for all drivers, and today's news is that they have added additional capacity at 21 California stations, meaning EVgo's network can power even more EVs. All of their new chargers have dual-standards, both CHAdeMO and CCS Combo at each station. 10 in San Francisco, 5 in San Diego, and 6 in L.A. Cathy Zoi, CEO of EVgo says "The old world is changing, and EVgo is rapidly expanding our network of over 1000 public fast chargers across the US so that more Americans can choose a better way to drive." CCS Combo connectors are used by the Chevrolet Bolt, BMW i3, and numerous other existing and forthcoming EV models from North American, European, and Asian auto manufacturers. CHAdeMO connectors are commonly used by the Nissan LEAF, Kia Soul EV, and (with an adaptor) Tesla vehicles. The 21 station upgrades from EVgo throughout California now have the capabilities to charge EVs using either CHAdeMO or CCS Combo connectors at both chargers. Find our more at evgo.com   GRID CONFIDENT OF MEETING EV DEMAND, SAYS MINISTER In the UK, let's get onto the subject of whether driving an EV will melt the grid and send us back to the dark ages. "The electrification of road transport will only result in a 10 per cent increase in demand for electricity by 2050, according to a government minister." and reported by UtilityWeek: "Richard Harrington told the Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS) select committee that National Grid had expressed confidence about the ability of the power networks to cope with the mass switch over, at the recent first meeting of the government’s electric vehicle (EV) task force." Richard Bruce director of energy, technology and innovation at the Department for Transport, said that the UK already had ‘one of the best public infrastructures in Europe’ for charging points with around 12,000 already installed, including 400 in the last 30 days alone.   COMMUNITY   From Ryan Hoffman: “The other day, you mentioned VW hadn't been fined in Europe for the emissions scandal.
