In Non-Compliant Episode 34, Host Jay Edelson, nationally recognized plaintiff's attorney and Founder of Edelson PC, is joined by Professor Carolyn Shapiro, the founder and co-director of Chicago-Kent's Institute on the Supreme Court of the United States (ISCOTUS).To start the show, Jay and Carolyn discuss the monumental decisions to come out of the most recent Supreme Court Session. According to Carolyn, the Chief Justices relied on their hallmark move— making decisions that do not appear to be earth shattering, but contain the seeds for significant applications and legal changes (4:20).Next, Jay and Carolyn discuss the confirmation process (14:30). For Jay, confirmation hearings seem inconsequential, as nominees know the questions they're going to be asked, and the correct way to answer them. Because of this, it's hard to determine a candidate's actual judicial philosophy.Later in the show, the extreme significance of the Supreme Court's decisions on average Americans is discussed (31:00). Professor Shapiro notes that she was particularly upset about the voting rights decision that came down at the end of the term, which essentially re-wrote the voting rights act to make it extraordinarily difficult to challenge voting restrictions that benefit Republicans and hurt Democrats (31:30).To end the show, Jay and Carolyn discuss TransUnion, which looks at Article III standing (38:00). According to Carolyn, TransUnion is notable for two reasons: (1) it makes it harder to establish a class in a case, and (2) it expands court's authority at the expense of Congress (40:00). Jace, Manny and Jay talk about some of the titles they've already read that hit comic shops today. For Jay a real highlight is Post Americana #3 as we get insight into what has lead the world into the dystopian future we have seen in the book so far. Manny gives his book of the week to Ice Cram Man #23 which continues to exceed all expectations. The guys also talk about The Next Batman Second Son #1 and why the whole Next Batman concept hasn't been working for them. Likewise with Future State House of El #1, which should have felt grand and epic but was a bit lacking, listen in to find out why the guys felt that way. Meanwhile at AfterShock Kaiju Score ending with a bang and Nuclear Family #1 is an intriguing start to that title. There's plenty more books everyone gave spoiler-free thoughts on and Jace gives a run down of some other titles you might want to be on the lookout for.

Jay and Jace break down some titles from the week of January 27, 2021 without giving away spoilers. For Jay his favorite book of the week was Batman Black & White #2 which showcased some gorgeous artwork and showed, once again, how the versatility of Batman is as a character allows for so many different types of stories to be told. We also got the next chapter of Captain Marvel's story in a possible Marvel Universe future that may lead into Carol gaining some the magical powers that have been hinted at by Marvel recently. Over in Post Americana, the blood and guts continue to fly as the action is turned up in this title for mature readers. Both Jay and Jace vastly preferred the Black Adam story in the pages of Suicide Squad much more than the story of Amanda Waller's latest line-up of Task Force X. Future State Batman Superman gives us some details about the Magistrate coming to power in Gotham and the guys think it should have been the first Future State title to be released. Both Amazing Spider-Man and Fantastic Four take a slight step back in quality this week, but for different reasons, in FF, the latest arc goes out with a whimper instead of a bang although the artwork is top notch. Amazing Spider-Man has once again placed the Kindred story arc on the backburner instead of resolving it and Jace is very frustrated by this. We have a similar problem with Daredevil #26 where the story Chip Zdarsky is telling is unfortunately interrupted by a King in Black tie-in. The AfterShock title Kaiju Score continues to be a wild ride and issue #3 is no exception as our gang of would be thieves are forced to switch things up on the fly. In Joker/Harley: Criminal Sanity #7, we see the first inklings that even this version of Harley may not be able to avoid the machinations of the Joker which could lead her down a very dark path. Finally in The Other History of The DC Universe #2, John Ridley & company pick up right were they left off with book #1 and give us a powerful & emotional look at the DC Universe through the eyes of characters who are often times overlooked. Jace gives it his nod for Book of the Week. Plus we gives a run down on some other titles you may want to be in the lookout for.

Welcome to another episode of Action & Ambition with your host, Andrew Medal. Today’s guest is Jay Ives. Jay Ives is the founder of Jives Media. Jay lives at the crossroads of storytelling, design, data, and tech. As a lifecycle marketer, his goal is to strengthen the relationship between businesses and customers by turning engagement opportunities into meaningful, profitable moments. From Fortune 500 organizations to high-growth startups, Jay has led marketing teams to increase awareness, activation, and retention by better understanding their customer. You’re going to love this episode. Let’s get to it! What advice has Jay been teaching during the pandemic? (1:16) Jay says the stats are as follows; there are about 30 million small businesses that employ nearly 60 million workers in the U.S. One in 5 small businesses has shut down since January.  Jay wants to do as much as he can to help these local businesses.  The truth of the matter is that they’re not getting the proper funding from the government right now.  Many businesses are figuring out how to pivot and position themselves in this new socially distanced world.  For Jay, it has been exciting being in the trenches with them to figure out a game plan. Jay helps them figure out how to grow their digital presence during this global pandemic. Jay’s teamwork on the digital marketing side of things for people. They educate them on how to observe data to figure out which channels are and aren’t working.  They are working to increase brand awareness at a holistic level. What trends does Jay see coming in the future? (8:54) Jay believes that people are going to continue to rely on digital media more now than ever before.  People are spending a lot of time at home; screen time is increasing. This might not necessarily be the best thing for our mental health. For marketers, that is an excellent thing for them to take note of.  Behaviors are also changing, with a lot of his clients historically, some of them did well on weekdays, Monday to Friday. With people spending more time at home, they are sometimes working more or better on the weekends and vice versa.  Consumer behavior trends and employee set work times are changing and adapting.  Jay believes it will only continue to evolve over the next few months and years.  What is the legacy that jay wants to leave behind? (14:36) Jay wants to show people that there is a lot of good that can come out of helping these small businesses. Small businesses fail; people fail.  Going back to that 30 million small business out there, they have a ton of impact and influence on the market, public health, and communities.  We need to get out there and help support them in any way you can.  If you are a small business owner, this is the time to adapt and evolve and do this quickly.  Thinking back to the great recession of ‘08-’09, many of the world’s most significant companies were birthed during that time.  Looking back, Jay believes there will be a ton of great ideas and companies that are generated through the COVID-19 period. Business owners must just move quickly and aggressively. They must keep finding new ways to market, new ways to engage clients, and win customers. A brand new week means it’s time for a fresh episode of the Real Life Podcast to get your week started while also helping you navigate the world around you. This week, the guys looked at the upcoming NHL Draft, changes to minor hockey, Big Brother's triple eviction, and welcomed Scott Hastings from OddsShark to break down the world of sports betting. To kick off today's podcast, the guys looked at what's happening with minor hockey and what it looks like to have kids playing team sports during Coronavirus. From following strict health protocols to changing the rules of the game itself to managing relationships, it goes without saying that these are strange days when it comes to trying to find some normalcy in a time when kids desperately need and want it. From there, the podcast shifted gears to focus on the current business climate and how this is undoubtedly one of the most difficult times imaginable to try and manage for local companies that are trying to stay afloat. For Jay and Wanye, that meant delays to the Umphreville Block project and establishing an outdoor strategy for Little Brick that will carry the cafe through the winter. Back to hockey, Ken Holland held his pre-draft conference call today and offered up a few tidbits on what the next week+ might look like for the Edmonton Oilers. However, that conversation was quickly derailed as Chalmers made his way into a convenience store to pick up a Slurpee, completely distracting everyone from the conversation at hand. Lastly, the guys wrapped things up by welcoming Scott Hastings from OddsShark to the podcast as he helped to break down the NHL playoffs, betting trends from the NFL, and the latest news in the world of sports.

It’s been another crazy week and we’re all still absorbing the new reality that we find ourselves in, so we each decided to pick albums that we’ve turned to for respite during this collective period of self-isolation. Some of the albums we recommend playing out loud, alone or otherwise; they seem to brighten a room just enough to help, but not so much that you’re required to forget all of this to enjoy them. A couple are intended to provide an escape & should be listened to with headphones. The remaining are for reflection and may require repeat listens before you feel like you’ve heard everything there is to hear; in some ways, this is the point. Anyway, all that aside, we had a blast going through these and hope you enjoy them too!We also learned this week that John Prine is in critical condition with the Coronavirus. He’s one of, at the time of this writing, roughly nine hundred thirty thousand people who have contracted the virus. For Jay this news hit pretty hard. John Prine is the soundtrack to some of Jay’s earliest memories…those ones where, you’re 8 years old and and you hear a song on the car radio and you it hits you that this is the song that Dad (or Mom) has been singing around the house since, well, forever… and then, years later you come to a bigger realization; that there’s so much more to this artist’s music that you never heard as a kid and you begin re-listening and…hopefully you get the picture. We listen to a few of Jay’s favorites to close out the show and sincerely hope that Mr. Prine, and everyone else suffering with this, recovers fully and quickly. We hope everyone is safe and doing well. As financial planners and advisers, we face stress and challenges in the industry every day. So what can we do as a community to step up and encourage each other? In today's episode, we're joined by Jay Fergusson, a Brisbane-based financial adviser who has decided to put her values front and centre of her work environment. She shares her past experiences and how these drive her to help her clients. We will also discuss the LinkedIn community that she's recently started and the hashtag challenge that she has come up with. Check out the highlights of this episode, and without further ado, sit back and tune in to the show! About Our Guest: Jay Fergusson is a financial adviser at Wealth Connexion in Kangaroo Point, Brisbane. It is a predominantly pre-retiree and retiree-based advice firm. For over 11 years, she has provided service to a diverse range of Australians by assisting them in navigating the complexities of finance. Spreading Positivity in the Advising Community Falling Into Advising Jay started as a retention consultant during the global financial crisis. Being an adviser, for her, all started with the feeling of powerlessness as a retention consultant to advise people who fall victim to bad investment advice. Being an adviser enabled her to help people achieve their goals directly. Helping Clients Achieve Their Goals First, discover their goals and what they want to achieve. The role of an adviser is to make complicated financial matters simple for clients. The client's fear and worry about opportunities play a big part in achieving their goals. Moving Forward to a New Position When you've been an adviser for a while, you come to understand what you do and do not want from the role. Make a decision based on your values. If your values are not aligned with your practice, you're not going to stay there. Make a list of your values and goals. For Jay, she went and found the right position rather than waiting for it to come to her. It would be best if you found somewhere where you feel you can stay and not somewhere you think is going to be audited the next day. LinkedIn as a Platform When you read different newsletters or news on LinkedIn, there are a lot of negative commentaries between planners and advisers. Seeing the brighter side of things amidst the negativity will enable advisers to view the opportunities at the moment. As a community, we need to come together and help support each other. Before you respond to a post, be mindful and try to put yourself in their shoes. #52WeeksOfGreatFinancialAdviceChallenge Jay created a LinkedIn group called Financial Advisers Australia and created the hashtag to encourage people to share positive messages and experiences. All you need to do is post a piece of good news or a story about how you have positively affected a client's life. It can be through a blurb, a video, graphic design—in whatever medium you'd like. The story can also be about a friend or colleague of yours. What Makes A Good Adviser Someone with whom you can talk and feel comfortable. Because at the end of the day, an advice relationship is something that you would like to have long-term. Advice and Future Plans Make sure that you have everything organised. Listen to your instincts. Check out the Financial Advisers Australia LinkedIn group. You may also connect with Jay on LinkedIn. He’s also a growth catalyst for EXP Realty. When it comes to Real Estate and entrepreneurship, there isn’t much Jay hasn’t done! From getting started, to closing more than 500 transactions per year, to building a team...Jay has faced his fair share of challenges, which ultimately inspired him to help others. Through coaching and live events, Jay now teaches realtors how to double their business, and make the transition from agent to CEO! Like many of you, Jay sort of fell into real estate. It all started by mowing lawns of vacant listings for realtors during his summer breaks from college, which exposed him to the seemingly “effortless” work that agents were doing back at the office. All it took was one glance at a $5,000 paycheck to pique Jay’s interest. However, Jay quickly learned that the money did not come as easily as he thought! From Beginner to Burnout Once Jay got his real estate license, he hit the ground running and gave it everything he had. He closed 22 deals his first year, 39 in his second, and it never stopped growing from there. Eventually, closing more than 300 units in one year, Jay found himself bottlenecking and burning out. Jay had a lot of success with listings, which helped build his book of business. But, until that point, he was doing virtually everything himself and did not have any systems in place. He realized that implementing systems would be the key to pushing through his plateau. Before long, Jay was closing more than 500 transactions per year! How to Push Through the Plateau Most folks choose real estate and entrepreneurship in pursuit of “freedom and flexibility,” yet so few agents actually enjoy the freedom they were seeking to begin with. Without ever learning to leverage tools, technology, and great people, we find ourselves “surviving success,” trapped on the hamster wheel and racing towards burnout. For Jay, working long hours in the early years, while seeing his business grow, was fun and exciting. But as his life and business evolved, priorities changed, and he suddenly realized that he was a slave to his job. At the two-hundred and thirty deal mark, Jay could not possibly achieve work-life balance on his own, so he decided to expand the team.  Jay suggests identifying the tasks you aren’t good at, and don’t enjoy, and delegating them. For him, that included low-dollar productive activities and admin work. He also recommends building systems that mold team members to fit your vision. They need to know your expectations upfront, so that they understand their role in the big picture, and what they have to do to hit their goals. You also need to set clear expectations with your clients. Otherwise, you find yourself over-promising and under-delivering, which will only hurt your relationships Summary After you’ve achieved success and built your brand, it is hard to put boundaries in place. Your client relationships are the core of your business, and if you stay on top of those, the rest of these steps will help you grow. Remember that you are not a one-man army. Even the most successful agents will hit a wall if they do not have the essential processes and team members in place. If you want to hear more from Jay Kinder, make sure to listen to our podcast episode, Real Estate is a Team Sport, with Jay Kinder.

How to Prepare For a Recession?

Business Mentor Podcast

Market crashes. Brexit. Recessions. Be prepared. Look out for your business. In today’s episode of The Business Mentor Podcast, Jay urges you to prepare for recessions and market crashes. It’s unpredictable when and how grave will recession’s effect be to your business, so it’s better to anticipate the worst right now. Don’t miss the 4 tips that Jay gives on how to prepare for a recession. Whenever it happens, you have to be equipped to get through it. Remember to yourself surrounded by the right support group (including your mentor), be financially stable, and be adaptable. Discover more when you tune in. KEY TAKEAWAY A recession happens, on average, every 10 years. It happened since 1946, and it’s unpredictable of when exactly it’s going to happen and what’s its effects will be. The last recession that occurred in October 2007 took 65 months to recover. Lately, there has been too much competition, and a lot of people are looking at investing in property. According to Jay, that’s a tell-tale sign that recession is coming. Laying off employees happens a lot in the first phase of recession. You don’t know what you don’t know. You have to be prepared when it happens. For Jay, it was approaching his mentor about it. He asked about his mentor’s experience, studied about the recession and did a SWOT analysis. It became clearer for Jay how he should plan for his business’ next move. Keep going even if it’s recession. It will happen no matter what, and your business shall be able to withstand the outturns. You should be fully aware of even the minute details of your business so you can prepare, and once it happens, it’ll be easy to adapt. 4 Tips for preparing for recession: Have an emergency fund. Jay advises that you save at least 10% of your business’ profit. The sooner you start, the better. Have multiple streams of income. If you only did one market, you’re vulnerable. There’s a lot of ways you can earn income. Look into where you can branch your primary business, look into the skills that you can develop.   Keep some cash aside. When the market crashes, stocks become cheap, so buy stocks.   Have the right support network. The most important thing is you have the right mindset that can face the consequences that happen during a recession. If you’ve got the right mentor and the right community, you become firmer and more driven to overcome it. BEST MOMENTS   “If you’re not prepared, when it comes, it could take out the market.” “Recession comes out of the blue.” “When recession does come, rather than panicking and saying, ‘We can’t do anything’, we did a simple SWOT analysis.” “If you’re going through hell, just keep going.” “You may never use your emergency fund, but at least it’s there when you need it.”   ABOUT THE HOST Jay Dhillon is a serial entrepreneur, investor and philanthropist based in the UK with a proven track record of growing businesses from start-up to success- and helping others do the same. From humble beginnings, Jay grew his first business from 0-500 employees and three locations, racking up sales of over £30 million – all without any investment other than a small amount of savings. The business went on to acquire major clients such as Landrover, Jaguar, Toyota and New Look, to name a few. Its huge success inevitably brought about outside interest and at the age of 33, Jay eventually sold the company to a London investment firm in Doyen Resources. Today, Jay owns several businesses in different sectors and helps entrepreneurs achieve success. A calling to give back and help others led to Jay being chosen for the highly-coveted role as a Prince’s Trust mentor, where his achievements were marked by a personal invitation to Buckingham Palace to meet Prince Charles. After helping several young entrepreneurs to success as a mentor for the Trust, Jay’s burning desire to bring his wisdom and knowledge to a wider audience ultimately triggered the concept of The Business Mentor Podcast. Jay feels that anyone can achieve success in business with the right advice and mentoring and is now sharing his knowledge with his growing audience via his podcast. In the UK alone 95% of business fail within the first five years and Jay’s aim is to reduce that number. Backed with the hard-earned knowledge and experience from his time in business, The Business Mentor Podcast will share Jay’s personal business lessons as well those of other successful entrepreneur guests who share their wisdom and secrets on the show. Explore Your Enthusiasm, with Tara Swiger | Craft | Art | Business

Now that you've reviewed the year so far, you have probably recognized some things that did not turn out as planned. How do you feel?  Do you feel horrible about that? Crushed? How do you handle it when things don't turn out as planned? Disappointments. They happen. I've heard from a lot of you that you actually skip doing your monthly or quarterly review, because you know you didn't hit your goal and you don't wanna acknowledge it. But here's the thing: You have to acknowledge where you are in order to move forward. You have to come face to face with both disappointments and triumphs so that you can make an effective plan for what's next. I lead all new Starship Captains through Chart Your Stars before we make a plan or take classes because getting oriented in where you REALLY ARE is the most important step. Nothing can move forward until you know you're starting from. In the spirit of acknowledging those goals-that-don't come true, the disappointments and how hard it is, I'll share a story in my own life, that's been unfolding over the last 3 years. As many of you longtime listeners know, 3 years ago, Jay quit his office day job to work part-time in my business and part-time in the local comic shop, that we intended to buy. We were both super excited - I was proud because this meant that my biz went from being around 70% of our income to 100% of our income. I think this is especially meaningful to me, because SO MANY people assume that my husband has been supporting me financially throughout my business. He has been supporting me emotionally, but my biz income has always been 60% or more of our annual income. This is my own thing I need to work on - I need to not care what people think and the stupid assumptions they make. But, ya know, it felt good to answer the "and what does your husband do?" question with "he works in my business". He was excited, because this allowed him to learn the comic shop business, while getting to know the people who would be his customers and build relationships. But, after 2 1/2 years...it didn't work out. The owner didn't give us what we needed for the banks, when we needed it and it became clear (to me) that he wasn't ready to sell. After 6 intense months of it almost happening, but with lots waiting and hoping, it was official - we weren't going to be buying the shop. This was September 2017. That was a huge disappointment. And Jay needed to take time to just grieve that (it helps that we know we did everything possible and by the end of the process, we just wanted it to be over). And it totally changed our lives because Jay stopped working 6 days a week at the comic shop and was suddenly home....all the time. We decided he should wait a minute before getting another job. He could do more in my business, he could travel with me, we'd have such a freer life if he wasn't tied down by hours. It would give him a chance to think about how we could still reach the dream of owning a shop, but without buying THIS shop. And we'd already been living off my income, so nothing there changed. We did have a good time - he went to San Francisco with me in October, then we spent a week with my parents in Oregon. We had a great holiday season without the stress of juggling schedules. (All of our parents require a road trip to visit, so now we could!). But when it came to just daily work time, I have to be honest. It was really really hard. I need either total silence or coffee shop white noise and Jay is...chatty. And loving. He took such good care of me and our home during those months, but it felt like I was always balancing work with family, even in hours that we both agreed should be about work. My daily routines really slid, and here's the thing - even if Jay said nothing to me all day, it just felt different with him here all day. But we didn't get much time to get used to that, because in February a friend with a sick kid asked Jay for help with his shop...and Jay stepped in. At first a little, and then a lot. I've talked about it a lot on Essential Enthusiasm podcast (you do listen to that, right?), but Jay is an Obliger. And around April, after months of bouncing between my business and his friend who needed help, he told me: I feel I'm constantly doing what people are obliging me to do and NOT what I need to be doing to move forward on my goal (I know you obligers feel him on that). What he wanted was to feel like he was moving forward on the future comic shop and the biggest thing that would make that possible is MONEY. So although he can support me in tangible ways that will lead to my business growing, he can't directly do things in my business that makes money. No one can. I get a lot of help, I hire people to do things like edit videos and put together podcast posts, but what that does is free up my time and focus to do the stuff that directly money. For Jay to feel like he's working on his dream, he needs to see the direct result. Here's another factor: I was having some...not-great-mental health months. One of the lies my anxiety tells me is that I will never feel like myself again. And that by not feeling like myself, my whole business will fall apart. And when my business is 100% of our income? Our whole life will fall apart. I definitely wouldn't say I felt pressured...I loved that my biz was supporting us. But when it came to thinking about growth... I definitely felt a kind of existential dread and that dread took away all of my creativity. I couldn't see all these amazing ways to grow or improve my business, because I was wrapped in "OMG WHAT IF IT ALL FAILS". So he decided to get a day job. So that he can contribute directly to our family's dreams. And this isn't going to make any sense for the international listeners, but I just have to tell you, that the health insurance was a deciding factor. Although my insurance is ¼ of Jay’s monthly pay, it’s still less than we were paying before, out of pocket. I realize for most people, getting a job that has insurance, that pays pretty well for our area, for a person with a BA in history, is ONLY GOOD NEWS. It is such a blessing. But I'll admit my biz ego was a little disappointed, because this is NOT the direction I thought we were moving. I thought we both would never have traditional employment again. We were going to own a retail shop! And yet, I have to admit, it's been great. In just the two weeks he's been working, I have gotten so much done! OMG! I am alone for 8 hours every day, which is just so restorative. And even though his job won't be contributing to our bills (we're using it pay off debt + save for the future), it loosened something in my head, it relieved some pressure I didn't know I was feeling and I have been SO much more able to be creative about the next direction in my business. I’ve had SO MUCH clarity in the last 2 weeks, it's just unbelievable. So, that is our tale of not reaching our goal and things not going as planned. I wanted to share it with you, because I think it's our tendency to look at everyone else and assume they are where they want to be. Or that things are going pretty easily. Or that if they've hit one big goal (like a six figure business), everything else just comes easily. I also wanted to talk about it, because a lot of people dream of quitting day jobs, or even retiring their spouse and I gotta tell you - it's not always fun, easy or fulfilling for both people. Life changes, and what you want changes. Your mission isn't to hit some certain milestone, it's to create a LIFE that you like, and maybe a business (or maybe not!) that supports that life. My brother, who works at a tech startup in San Diego told me one time (when I was making about $40,000/year and he was making $60,000), "I don't know why you are so concerned that you do work that is what you want to do with your time. You know you could just get a job that pays enough for you to do the stuff you want with your non-work time." At first I thought, ugh no, that sounds horrible, but then I realized - in our online biz world we romanticize loving what you're doing with every minute. But even in a business you LOVE you're going to do things you don't like. And as you build that dream? You're going to do a lot of things you don't like. You're going to work hard, you may need to do other work to pay the bills or to finance your art. By the way, I reminded by brother that I didn't get a BA in computer security like he did, mine is in French Lit. I'm pretty unemployable, and spending time grinding away while making not-much was a long term investment into the business I have today that pays me well, doing what I care passionately about. But that's not the right answer for everyone, in every situation. To sum up, when things don't go as planned, remember: Acknowledging what isn't going the way you wanted, helps you get oriented to where you are now. You have to start any plan from where you are. You are not alone. It's not supposed to be different (it's easy to think "I should already be passed this" "I shouldn't have these struggles” but you’re not the only one who does). Take time to grieve and to flop about. Try things to see if they work for you. Notice what's not working for you (like Jay did) and know you can always make a different choice. Sometimes that choice might look like something you didn't think you'd do. That's ok, if it's the right next thing for you. If something you dreamed of just isn't working for you. That's ok too. You're allowed to change your mind. I thought having my biz employ both of us and having Jay around all the time would be great. I was wrong. Keep changing your dreams as you change. Don't give up. All of this is just details. Identify the BIG THING you care about, the ONE THING that matters to you and organize everything around that. As long as that is still what you want, let go of all the details and focus in on it. To help you set goals from this place, this place of focusing on what REALLY matters, I'm sharing a worksheet called "Creating Do-Able Goals". Mindfulness coach, teacher, writer and warrior in spirit, Jay Tepley brings us this week's 'Writer's Routine'!For Jay, everything in the world is energy, and because of this, everything is interconnected and the realisation of this can give humans the closest thing to superpowers. It allows her to see through time, talk to the dead, interact with the inanimate, and she teaches these tricks of extended perception in her 'Ariya Mind Training' programme. Her book 'The Lightwatch Chronicles: The Guardians', is a book designed to awaken these powers within those who have them. It's a fantasy epic, in line with The Lord of the Rings and Star Wars, about a group of 'Stars' searching for a lost member of their team and becoming stranded on Earth in the chase. We talk about how the story just appeared to her and be commanded to be put down on paper. Also you can hear the mental blueprint that she made to get it published, and how she packed such grand ideas about the Universe into a 200-odd page fantasy novel. And, we get a top writing tip from Garrard Conley about how the secret to telling a good story, is reading more of them.NB - Levels are a bit off during the actual interview, can't be helped I'm afraid, the recording was a bit too quiet. "The opposite of fear is love. Love of the challenge. Love of the work. The pure joyous passion to take a shot at our dream and see if we can pull it off." -Steven Pressfield   This episode is a little bit different. Instead of me interviewing a guest, we did a collaborative podcast. What is a collaborative podcast? Well, let me tell you. On this episode, Calvin Simpson, Paul Lam and myself all sit down to tell you about taking a shot at our dreams. In the last 2 years, all 3 of us have started podcasts. We’ve put aside the conventional and have decided to travel the path less traveled. In this episode, we share about our journey thus far and what it’s like being digital entrepreneurs. Backstory For This Episode Recently the three of us were part of a mastermind group. For 4 months we all met every week, online to learn from our coach, Jay Wong, about how to grow our podcasts. Jay runs the Innerchange Maker podcast and has revenue of +$100,000/annually so he’s the type of mentor we knew could take us to the next level. As Tony Robbins says, instead of figuring everything out yourself, find someone who has cracked the riddle and model them. That was exactly the point of this mastermind. For Jay to share his insight and wisdom with us. And for us to model and duplicate with our own audiences. At the end of 4 months of meeting online every week, the three of us thought it would be a great idea to meet in person as we all live in different parts of the country. We decided to all meet in Toronto to see Jayson Gaignard speak on how to build a 7 figure business through networking. So that’s what we did. We booked an AirBnb, made travel plans and met in Toronto. When we finally gathered we thought it would be great to have all three of us do a podcast together. Because if 3 podcasters meet under one roof, what else would we do? 7 Things You’ll Learn Why not you? How to meet the most amount of people at networking events and get out of conversations you don’t want to be in How fear is connected to your self-worth The amount of money you need to retire (and it depends all based on how luxurious a lifestyle you want but there is still a set way to figure out this number) Why we each love podcasting Who are “unsong heros” and why you should celebrate them The most important messages we want to share with the world And much, much more. As he leaves the UK to undertake an international role Beth Grove will be leading the work in London through the newly established Pfander Centre for Apologetics. They talk about the joys and challenges of reaching Muslims in the UK, those they have seen convert, why the nature of the debates have changed and the new arguments critiquing the historicity of Mecca, Mohammed and the Koran. At the end of the show Ben Virgo of Christian Heritage London drops in to talk about the amazing history of London’s landmarks and the Christian figures who lived and worked there. The @LegendsOfShield (Legends Of S.H.I.E.L.D.) Agents Lauren, Haley and Stargate Pioneer break down the Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D. episode The The Things We Bury! They also run down the week in Marvel news, and run down all the awesome Legends Of S.H.I.E.L.D. feedback.   The hosts discuss Funko POP figures and what everyone has. Haley has Flash, Lauren has Winter Soldier, Rocket Racoon and Arya Stark, Nightwing has Robin and Nightwing but Stargate Pioneer doesn't have any of them --- YET.    The hosts discuss their desires again on an evil or good Fitz and the possibilities of a brainwashed Simons.    Stargate Pioneer can't pronounce Paul Atreides which leads the foursome down a short discussion on various Dune screen versions including the original David Lynch version. And also if one should watch the David Lynch Dune or read the Comic Saga. The answer is simple:Saga always comes first!    "Black Adam" called in with his desired roster of an all-female Avenger team: 1. Black Widow 2. Captain Marvel 3. Spider Woman 4. Invisible Woman (Science) 5. She-Hulk (Muscle) 6. Valkyrie (Muscle) 7. Agent Melinda May as S.H.I.E.L.D. liaison Lauren is really liking breaking out the team in skill sets instead of replacements of the current Cinematic Universe Avengers team.   X-Men 3 continues not to exist for the hosts.   Nightwing decides to give HIS all-female Avengers team. 1. Dagger 2. Red She-Hulk 3. Dazzler 4. Big Bertha 5. Firebird 6. Polaris 7. X-23   Lauren amends her list from podcast #44 1. Black Widow 2. Rescue 3. She-Hulk 4. Mockingbird 5. Agent 13 6. Carol Danvers   7. Haley - Scarlet Witch to include: 8. Molly Hayes 9. Nico Minoru   We all hear why Wing is wrong again because he didn't care for Big Hero 6. So French of him. No one was surprised.   Later, Wing did mention that Captain America 2: The Winter Soldier was the best Marvel movie. Haley mentioned that was one opinion she could respect. But don't get too excited. There are other opinions Wing has like on The incredible Hulk that Haley just wished Wing would stop drinking the cough syrup over.   Lauren tells us that Good Bye Lenin 2003 is a really good movie (That Haley hasn't seen yet of course). And Daniel Bruhl who will be in Captain America Civil War was in Good Bye Lenin.   Lauren regales us about her amazing Marvel knowledge of Ragnarok - clone or no clone - and Eson The Searcher. And we collectively wonder exactly where Odin is right now within the Marvel Cinematic Universe.   StarPi is completely deflated that he wasn't voted sexiest man alive and Chris Hemsworth got it instead. But all the GonnaGeek women hosts including Lauren, Haley and Katherine from Legends Podcast are really fine with it.   Haley watches The Chris Pratt Guardians Of The Galaxy Dance Off Gag Reel video live on the podcast and describes the awesomeness as it happens.    We learn that Wing loves to say his H'es when he describes an actress as "hot."   The Things We Bury Episode Discussion [41:15]   StarPi believes that Ward's character's arc of killing his brother and parents were known from the beginning of the series.   The best scene in the episode was definitely when all the evil characters (Ward, The Doctor, and Whitehall) are looking each other in the eye at the end to plan each other's demise.   We (all of the hosts on Legends Of S.H.I.E.L.D.) will be calling Skye's mom Sierra from Dollhouse until we hear her real name in Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D.   The scene with Skype's Mom (Sierra) being operated on by Whitehall and then dumped in a ditch was very very dark. We don't generally expect this level of darkness from Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D..    In a classic StarPi move he manages to confuse Edwards James Olmos with James Earl Jones in name only. And in another classic Haley move she admits to not ever having watched Hunt For Red October. Or any of the Tom Clancy movies really.   Lauren states that "Fricking Robert Redford ruins everything!"   Wing brings up a great theory about an infinity stone within Attilan and Lauren likes the idea because it would reward the Marvel fan for watching the Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D. television show in addition to the Marvel Cinematic Universe.    Don't forget that Simmons has definitely been made to "comply" by Whitehall.   Has Marvel rolled out the Inhumans 4 years too early? Haley thinks there are ways around it. And SP thinks that an Inhuman backstory before the movie would be a welcome addition to the way Marvel introduced Gamora and Nebula without any backstory at all.   Lauren brings up that is would be great if Skye's Dad, The Doctor, is Mr. Hyde from Marvel Comics. But Haley likes Maximus The Mad better.   And don't forget the Whitehall "origins" story that we saw in the episode. And Deputy Director May too!   NEWS   Winter Soldier reported to be “central character” for Cap 3 http://www.examiner.com/article/winter-soldier-reported-to-be-the-central-character-for-captain-america-3   Daniel Bruhl cast in Captain America: Civil War http://marvel.com/news/movies/23678/daniel_bruhl_cast_in_marvels_captain_america_civil_war   Frank Grillo has multi-movie deal with Marvel http://wegotthiscovered.com/movies/frank-grillo-crossbones-marvel-contract/   Crossbones “main villain” in Cap 3 http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/movies/news/a610537/crossbones-is-main-captain-america-civil-war-villain.html   X-men Apocalypse will be a love story between Magneto and Mystique http://www.hypable.com/2014/11/12/x-men-apocalypse-to-focus-on-mystique-and-magnetos-relationship/   Slashfilm reveals Thor: Ragnarok details http://www.slashfilm.com/thor-ragnarok/   Chris Hemsworth named People’s Sexiest Man Alive. http://www.themarysue.com/chris-yesworth/   GotG gag reel: DANCE OFF https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t0qcPekvlAU   Possible contenders for Jessica Jones and Luke Cage casting http://www.themarysue.com/jessica-jones-luke-cage-casting/   For Jay: http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/superhero-earns-13-billion-a-748281 http://comicbook.com/2014/11/13/spider-man-marvel-tops-batman-dc-in-licensing/   **** SPOILER **** ???? http://comicbook.com/2014/11/19/agents-of-s-h-i-e-l-d-alien-race-officially-revealed/   Haley, Lauren and Stargate Pioneer love to hear back from you about your top 5 Marvel character lists, you science of Marvel questions, why Wing is wrong at any time, what you'd like to see as the untitled 2018 FOX-produced Marvel based comic movie, or what kind of sport Agent Coulson would have played in school. Call the voicemail line  at 1-844-THE-BUS1 or 844-843-2871.  Join Legends Of S.H.I.E.L.D. next time as the hosts discuss Season 2 Episode 9 of Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D.
