Prepare yourself for the conversational snips of the previous thirty episodes… a potpourri of what may be our final clip show for a while. Over the last 3 years we've obviously refined a few things. Ben is starting to get right into the show when he's in charge of recording; a side effect of this is that warmups are no longer as much of “a thing” for us anymore. Ben has also worked diligently on reducing the necessary recording time for special guests, so these days we are also cutting far fewer segments due to time. However, we reserve the right to revisit the clip show concept in the future, but they will no longer occur on 30 episode intervals as they have in the past. And now… on to the scraps! *** 00:00:21 - Why? 00:01:47 - Ep 92 Logic clip introduction 00:02:23 - Unity fee restructuring, SAG striking, Andrew's support, and supporting indies  00:09:19 - Ep 95 Animate clip introduction  00:10:23 - Martin's opinions about Unity, showing support by being vocal, and StarVaders 00:13:23 - Ben asks Martin about controller support on the Mac and development challenges 00:17:07 - The benefits of being a part of the Unity developer community and 3rd party tools 00:20:33 - Effective game QA testing, using Discord, and how game engines lock down code  00:25:14 - The pros and cons of making your own game engine, and Starbucks' in Sweden   00:26:58 - Ep 96 Robot clip introduction 00:27:38 - Differences in salts, nobody wants goiters, PRINGLES® slogans, and “Hi Julius!” 00:31:38 - Let them breathe, smells like potato water, hearing Idaho, and eating them in stacks 00:34:01 - ASMR, salt favored, the most expensive salt, condiment reminder, and library garlic 00:38:41 - PRINGLES® freshness dates foreign and domestic, ASMR+, and a bathroom break 00:43:51 - Ep 98 Ink clip introduction 00:44:19 - Sensory adventure triggers another sensory adventure, and an animatronic callback 00:48:06 - Ep 100 Review clip introduction 00:48:41 - Drop dead, postmortem, rail sharing, trains falling down, and high altitude littering  00:54:47 - Ep 102 Narative clip introduction 00:55:28 - Andrew loves all things Richard Ayoade, his first, and 0118 999 88199 9119 725... 3 01:00:54 - The “Critical Film Studies” episode of a Community, and it's just a television show 01:03:09 - Ep 103 Rhythm clip introduction 01:04:00 - Some tech talk, definitions of art, “but also that elephant…,” and walking on the flag  01:07:48 - Heather Cassils' performance art, and Star's experience at Purchase College  01:11:01 - Exploring what you want to learn in community college, and don't not be happy 01:13:24 - Decoy show start, a dress rehearsal for a podcast, and short term memory screens 01:16:15 - The WiiU, The Wonderful 101, Veiwtiful Joe, and an extreme button mashing pro tip  01:19:11 - Ep 104 Lukas Eggan Interview clip introduction 01:19:50 - Discussing Alan Wake 2, Quantum Break, and a choice for the current generation 01:22:23 - Bethesda needs a win, collecting priorities, changing it in post, and LAN Parties 01:26:24 - Lukas' noticeable change in sound quality, our cats, and Ben's pre-show coffee 01:28:10 - Ep 106 April Fools / Turbo Tax Game Review clip introduction 01:28:59 - Agendas, sensitivity readings, the moral “high ground,” and conspiracy theories 01:32:16 - Splitting hairs of the definition, trying to explain things, and being empathetic  01:35:49 - Ep 107 Trend clip introduction 01:36:48 - A documentary about coinage, Norah's traffic commentary, and interview feedback 01:39:32 - Actively being a passenger, Norah reveals Alaska plans, and ambient sounds  01:43:17 - Ep 109 Beat clip introduction 01:44:13 - AI responding to AI generated content, where we get our news, and the FTC ruling 01:46:41 - Twenty year old cat FRAPs, old politicians, and refusing to work with people   01:50:33 - Printed infographics, teach yourself with the internet, and positive attitudes 01:53:58 - Ben starts showcasing his writings on Substack, and closing the show   *** Follow Two Vague on… Our website: https://www.twovaguepodcast.com  On Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/two_vague_podcast On YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@twovaguepodcast On Substack: https://substack.com/@twovaguepodcast For show appearance and other inquiries, contact us at: twovaguepodcast@gmail.com -AND-  …for all of your PRI and 2VP merch check out the Partly Robot Industries store at TEEPUBLIC! https://www.teepublic.com/user/partly-robot-industries References, Links, and Tags #Podbean #DIYPodcast #ApplePodcast #VideoGames #Trivia #Comedy #Talkshow #2VP #TwoVaguePodcast #PodernFamily #InterviewShow #GamersofThreads #Gamer #PartlyRobot #PartlyRobotIndustries #TeePublic

Dog Zoomies: Everything You Should Know

The Perfect Pup

Play Episode Listen Later Feb 22, 2022 8:54

Your pup comes sprinting through your living room, running in large, wide circles with seemingly no desire to stop… It's the DOG ZOOMIES! And while this slightly ‘crazy' behavior can be confusing at first, we're here to break down everything you need to know about dog (or puppy) zoomies! While dog zoomies is the most common term you'll hear, there is actually a more technical term for this fascinating display of energy put on by your pup! FRAPs or FRAP. This stands for frenetic random activity periods. And while I think this term is spot on, “zoomies” is more fun! Just like the real name says, the zoomies are a spurt of energy (often at seemingly random times) from your dog. Dog (or puppy) zoomies often include (but is not limited to) things like this… ⬇️ -Running as fast as possible -Running in no clear direction or with no clear purpose -Barking, howling or making other vocal forms of communication -Jumping on and off of things like couches, beds, nearby toddlers, chairs, etc. -Spinning wildly in circles (yes, this happens) -Trying to get you (or other dogs) to chase them, often encouraged by a play bow -Just overall being a little bit hyper and uncontrollable for a short burst of time The question of why do dogs get the zoomies gets a lot of attention in our private Facebook community and on our social media pages! And while there may not be a hard and fast rule as to why it happens, there are some ideas as to why. When our pups encounter prolonged periods of boredom, confinement, or even stress, it can create a pent-up amount of energy. And when you get a pent-up amount of energy and a desire to relieve stress… THE ZOOMIES! Most of the time our dogs get the zoomies after they've been forced to be not active for quite a while. Additionally, it can happen after stressful situations. Think bath time, vet visits, and even new guests coming to your home! And while the zoomies can really happen to your pup at any time, you'll often see it after a period of boredom/confinement (like in a crate) or after stressful situations. Just like undesired car repairs, the zoomies can happen at any time! And, it's often when you aren't expecting it. While these random bursts of energy can happen spontaneously, there are instances when dogs are more likely to get the zoomies. Here are a few ⬇️ -After being crated -After visiting the vet -After visiting the groomer -After a bath/shower at home -After being on a leash for an extended period of time -When they hear you say something they love like walk, park, dinner, treats, etc. -When you come home after a long period of time -When your dog knows you are about to leave -When your dog becomes extremely bored -When your dog knows it is about bedtime -When your dog doesn't have enough outlets for physical and/or mental activity Those are just a few times when dogs get the zoomies! Before we answer how to stop the zoomies, we really should ask should we want to stop the zoomies? While it's understandable to sometimes need your dog to chill out, shouldn't we be excited when our pups get the zoomies?! I mean we all want a tired, relaxed, and chilled out pup and doesn't exercise help with that? When my dogs get the zoomies, I'm stoked! Why? Because they're making my life easier. And as a human being, I like when my life is easier. They get to run around, go crazy, and get some energy out all while I often sit and enjoy the spectacle from the comfort of my couch! But if you do need to stop the zoomies, redirect to something less intense like a lick mat! NOTE: If you haven't already, PLEASE leave a review on Apple Podcasts. It is extremely helpful and appreciated :) --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/perfect-pup/message

A Way with Words — language, linguistics, and callers from all over

Say you have an acquaintance you always see at the dog park or the playground. But one night, you run into them at the movies, and for a moment, it's confusing. Is there a word for that disorienting sense of someone or something being out of place? Yes! Plus: the term sea change doesn't have to do with winds changing direction on the surface of the sea. It's a kind of profound transformation that Shakespeare wrote about. Finally, Martha and Grant have recommendations for the book lovers on your gift list. Plus: titch, chocolate gravy, the overview effect, the cat's pajamas, snot otters, and zoomies. FULL DETAILS The book Lingo, by Dutch linguist and journalist Gaston Dorren, is an enjoyable whirlwind tour of languages throughout Europe. An anachronism is something that's placed in the wrong time period, like a Roman soldier wearing Birkenstocks. But what's the word for if someone or something is literally out of place geographically speaking? You can use the word anatopism, from the Greek word for "place," or anachorism, from Greek for "country." An eighth-grade history teacher from Denton, Texas, is teaching about colonial America, and wonders if there's a difference between the phrases to found a colony or establish a colony. The "Think and Grin" section of Boy's Life magazine has some pretty corny jokes, including one about a parking space. The word titch means "a small amount," and is most likely just a variant of touch. Quiz Guy John Chaneski offers a game that involves finding the synonym with the most syllables. For example, one synonym for the word dumb is vacuous. But can you think of another that has five syllables? A listener in San Antonio, Texas, has fond memories of chocolate gravy over biscuits, the word gravy in this sense having nothing to do with a meat-based sauce. Grant shares his mother's own recipe. Overview effect refers to the cognitive shift in awareness and sense of awe experienced by astronauts who observe Earth from space. The term also inspired the title of Benjamin Grant's new book, Overview: A New Perspective of Earth, a collection of spectacular images culled from satellite photographs. Where does the accent fall in the word Caribbean? Most English speakers stress the second syllable, not the third. The word derives from the name of the Carib Indians, also the source of the word cannibal. The Italian word ponte means "bridge," as in the Ponte Vecchio of Florence. Ponte now also denotes the Monday or Friday added to make for a long weekend. A sea change is a profound transformation, although some people erroneously use it to mean a slight shift, as when winds change direction on the surface of the ocean. In reality, the term refers to the kind of change effected on something submerged in salt water, as in Ariel's song from Shakespeare's The Tempest. It's book recommendation time! Grant recommends the Trenton Lee Stewart series for young readers, starting with The Mysterious Benedict Society. Martha praises Ronni Lundy's Victuals: An Appalachian Journey, with Recipes, a love letter to the cuisine, folkways, history, and language of Appalachia. A San Antonio, Texas, listener lives in a house built by his grandfather, who was from Finland. The house has a small window in an upper corner that supposedly was designed to ensure that evil spirits could escape from the house. He thinks it's called a grum hole. Ever heard of it? Why do we say I'm just joshing you? Was there a Josh who inspired this verb? A snot otter is a kind of salamander. The cat's pajamas, denoting something excellent, arose in the 1920's along with many similarly improbable phrases involving animals and their anatomy or possessions, including the gnat's elbow, the eel's ankles, and the elephant's instep. What do you call it when your dog or cat suddenly turns into a blur of fur, racing through the house? Trainers and behaviorists call those frenetic random activity periods or FRAPs. Other people just call them zoomies. Perhaps this is something that FS Break listeners may be interested in? All the best and keep up the great work! Russ Tillman   Thanks for the tip Russ - We did know about ESP, however ESP was also canned with ACES. From their website: Microsoft has ceased further development of Microsoft® ESP™, but ESP remains available to customers and partners.  Microsoft is currently exploring 3rd party licensing options for the future of ESP and will announce details at the appropriate time. Also, does anyone know how ESP was different from FSX other than the name change?
