ROGER HODGSON THE VOICE OF SUPERTRAMP 'THE LOST INTERVIEWS'  Episode 7 Roger Hodgson's inspirational lyrics, enchanting vocals and virtuoso musicianship continue to astound audiences worldwide. Hodgson's distinctive voice and profound musical arrangements have spawned numerous 'Top 40 Hits' for classic rock music legends Supertramp. Some of Roger's most distinguished classics include, “Give a Little Bit,” “The Logical Song,” “Take the Long Way Home,” “Breakfast in America,” “Dreamer,” “School,” “It's Raining Again,” and “Fool's Overture.” After performing to jubilant sold-out audiences worldwide, 'Supertramp's Roger Hodgson' returns to the stage in 2013 on a new global excursion. Roger will be making a rare appearance at Ruth Eckerd Hall in Clearwater, Florida on Friday, March 22nd and for the first time in the U.S.; Hodgson will be performing with a Rock Symphony Orchestra. After the release of their third studio album, Crime of the Century in 1974, Supertramp quickly captured the attention of music critics and aficionados across the globe. Crime of the Century was a superlative release. The creative writing collaboration of Hodgson and Davies, although contrasting, began a highly successful commercial period for a group comprised of highly esteemed musicians. Roger Hodgson penned; “Dreamer” became Supertramp's first big hit. The album also featured two beautifully composed arrangements by Hodgson entitled ... “Hide in Your Shell” and “If Everyone Was Listening.” Supertramp became a sought-out concert attraction because of their awe-inspiring musical abilities and riveting onstage presence. Their shows often spotlighted a movie projection that displayed the Crime of the Century album cover, an image of two hands clutching jail cell bars while floating in space. The projection synchronized hypnotically with the music above the stage. Subsequent albums … Crisis? What Crisis? (1975) and Even in the Quietest Moments (1977) which produced “Give a Little Bit” (#15 on Billboard's Pop Singles chart). In 1979, Supertramp released what would become their highest selling album, Breakfast in America. The album spawned four U.S. Billboard Hit singles… “The Logical Song” (#6 Hit), “Take the Long Way Home” (#10 Hit), “Goodbye Stranger” (#15 Hit) and “Breakfast in America” (#62 Hit). The album remained on top of the charts worldwide and eventually sold over 20-million copies, becoming one of the biggest selling albums of all-time. Supertramp made an amazingly smooth transition from a progressive rock scheme over album-oriented rock airwaves to mainstream Top 40 radio, and without compromising or sacrificing musical integrity. The bands next album, ironically entitled …Famous Last Words (1982) would be the last featuring vocalist/lyricist/keyboardist and guitarist Roger Hodgson. The album reached #5 on Billboard's Pop Album Charts and was certified Gold. To date ... Supertramp has sold over 60- million albums. Roger Hodgson officially left Supertramp in 1983 to pursue a solo career. In 1987, after his second solo album was released, Hodgson fell and shattered both of his wrists. Doctors said he would never play music again, but his strong faith, positive thinking, self-healing efforts, and physical therapy would prove the medical profession wrong. Within a year and a half, Roger was playing his music once again. Roger Hodgson released three solo albums since leaving Supertramp … In the Eye of the Storm (1984), Hai Hai (1987) and Open the Door (2000). He also released a live album entitled, Rites of Passage (1996). In 2001, Roger was invited to play with Ringo Starr & His All-Starr Band. The band's lineup also featured Ian Hunter (Mott the Hoople), Greg Lake (Emerson, Lake, and Palmer), Sheila E., Howard Jones and Mark Rivera. In 2006, Hodgson released his first ever DVD entitled, Take the Long Way Home –Live in Montreal. The solo release achieved platinum status in just seven weeks. The following year, Roger accepted an invitation by Princes William and Harry to perform at the ‘Concert for Diana' in front of an audience of 65,000 people at Wembley Stadium. “Give a Little Bit,” “Dreamer,” “Breakfast in America” and “It's Raining Again” were among Diana's favorite songs. The concert was broadcast in 140 countries around the world. Roger Hodgson's most recent release, “Classics Live” is an incredible collection of his live performances recorded from his '2010 world tour.' There are also 60 unreleased songs that Roger plans to record when the time is right. I had a wonderful opportunity to chat with Roger Hodgson recently before the launch of his worldwide tour. Roger's music continues to inspire and offer hope for people everywhere. His spirituality and positive vibrations were felt throughout our entire conversation. Roger is a true delight.     Support us on PayPal!

On this weeks episode, we take on a big LP, the 1979 monster hit by Supertramp, Breakfast in America. Supertramp struggled early in their career to find an audience. The two main song writers brought different strengths to the band. Founding member Rick Davies leaned more to the progressive rock side of things, where as Roger Hodgson was more pop oriented.  Every album after their breakout LP Crime of the Century showed them gaining popularity. But Breakfast in America is their magnum opus. It is the definitive Supertramp album, the culmination of  Davies and Hodgson blending tier individual strengths into a distinctive sound (aided in no small part by heavy use of a Wurlitzer electric piano).  Full of well crafted (and catchy) tunes like  "The Logical Song," "Take the Long Way Home," and "Goodbye Stranger," and possessing one of the most iconic album covers of all time, Breakfast in America captured the hearts of millions of listeners worldwide. Visit us at www.tappingvinyl.com.

Das sind neben dem Titelsong auch "The Logical Song", "Goodbye Stranger" und "Take The Long Way Home". Ein Jahr später — in neuer Formation — veröffentlichen sie "Crime of the Century". __________ Über diese Songs vom Album "Breakfast in America" wird im Podcast gesprochen (04:49) – "The Logical Song"(14:18) – "Gone Hollywood"(21:40) – "Gone Hollywood"(22:24) – "Child of Vision"(29:24) – "The Logical Song"(48:12) – "Goodbye Stranger"(56:03) – "Breakfast in America"(01:03:54) – "Take the Long Way Home"__________ Über diese Songs wird außerdem im Podcast gesprochen (26:34) – "Here Comes the Sun" von The Beatles(01:40:12) – "Hyper Hyper" von Scooter(01:10:43) – "When We Were Young" von David Guetta und Kim Petras(01:11:07) – "Cry Cry Cry" von Coldplay(01:11:41) – "It Might Be Time" von Tame Impala (Prod. Ulla Vangelis – Leslie Reggie Carlisle – John (Beta) Trae Mowaka- Jesse Jack Nash – John (Prime) GM- Tod Foley Ulla sends out her nanobots in an attempt to halt the timing mechanism, while Nash and Trae are quick to fire at the canister and Ulla's swarm diverts to follow it, while Reggie defuses it mentally. The canister is theirs. When Ulla explains how the vortex event seemed like a literal copy of the first time — lighting, shadows and all — Reggie and Nash begin wondering what exactly Wolfram has been doing to the timeline. "Maybe they simply fucked up," says Reggie. "That's how the Frank situation happened." They all tend to Whisper, who seems to be fine, just a little shaken. The Vortex simply shrugged off her powers. Reggie takes advantage of the moment to teach her that it's not all fun and games; sometimes *things push back*. Reggie goes on to explain to Ulla about Flux Storms. He and Nash are growing more convinced that's exactly what's happening here; it's as though someone is using the forces of fundamental chaos to open holes between realities. Trae suggests that may be what happened in this reality instead of Diaspora and his invention of the Slip Capacitor. They move on. Toward evening Nash becomes aware they're being watched, and signals everyone to get down. Trae uses his drone to get eyes on the interloper, a ragged tarp-covered individual who seems to be alone. It turns out to be Ulla's old friend Dril. They catch up for a while, and he tells them he'll run ahead and prepare the clan for their arrival. He's finally succeeded in his old plan to tap into the daily flow of power from the geothermal converter, storing it in a massive battery which they use to power their new home: a medium-sized storage room underground, just beside the plant itself. Kek isn't as sour as expected; in fact everyone's spirits seem to have been lifted by their new surroundings, with powered devices, electric light, music, and all. She's looking forward to setting up some small hydroponic systems for growing food. The kids all get along, and over the next couple days the group takes some time to make sure Reggie's okay with leaving the kid behind. He's really not. He wants to keep the child; to train her to use her powers, and to protect her. Everybody chimes in, making sure to underscore how dangerous it would be to take Whisper with them. Ulla suggests that he can always come back for her. Reggie's still torn. But Beneficent, the clan healer, has noticed Whisper in particular. "Just look at that child's aura," she says, "You can tell she's special." Beneficent doesn't know what to make of Nash, Trae, and (especially) Reggie, but her moral code and belief in magic are enough to get a promise out of her: She'll take good care of Whisper while they're gone. Finally they depart, with teary goodbyes. Reggie promises Whisper that he'll return. "I know you will," says her voice in his mind. "I trust you." Fifteen kilometers out, the group feels that nauseous sensation again: there's a flux storm coming in. When it appears, they find themselves looking at themselves, hitting the ground, crouching for cover, and aiming weapons in this direction. http://daytrippersrpg.com https://www.patreon.com/asif CORE on Reddit https://www.reddit.com/r/corerpg/ CORE Discord https://discord.gg/eM5u4XesXr CORE Products: https://www.drivethrurpg.com/browse.php?filters=100202_0_0_0_0 https://www.etsy.com/shop/MidwestResinGeek https://www.patreon.com/legendsoftabletop Theme music created by Brett Miller http://www.brettmillermusic.net/

Ulla Vangelis – Leslie Reggie Carlisle – John (Beta) Trae Mowaka- Jesse Jack Nash – John (Prime) GM- Tod Foley In the morning, Nash and Ulla discuss what they should do with the children. Trae sleeps late and seems distant, as he's still processing what happened between him and Ulla the night before. The kids are a handful; Noah sometimes picks on Max and Whisper's powers are growing; she uses her mind to coax a rat out of hiding, and in her newfound confidence she steps off the roof of the RV and slows her fall just before hitting the ground. Praised by Reggie, she repeats the feat, to everyone's amusement. It becomes clearer than ever that they can'[t take this child to the city; she'd become a medical experiment. And so they set off to complete their westward journey to the power plant, just half a day away. Ulla keeps the kids busy playing "the finding game" along the way. They're hoping Kek will take the children in, but there's no telling for sure, and in any case, Whisper needs to learn some restraint. Later in the day Nash gets that queasy feeling and Reggie senses it too — they know there's a Reality Fracture coming in. Nash yells "Flux Storm!" as he directs everyone to dive for safety. This is odd because at the same time, Reggie is realizing there's a direct similarity between this feeling and the feeling of being knocked into the Multiversal Chao in a SlipShip. The sensations are practically identical. As they dodge aside from the opening vortex, Ulla realizes the experience itself is practically identical to the first time: the same hallway can be seen, the same canister, and in her photographic memory she can recall that it's even *turned the exact same direction it was* the first time. She directs Whisper to try and make the thing go away. Whisper tries to close the vortex with her mind, but she can't do it, and develops a serious nosebleed. Reggie lucid-dreams the vortex back to oblivion, leaving the canister behind. If this plays out like last time they have just a few seconds before it opens up. http://daytrippersrpg.com https://www.patreon.com/asif CORE on Reddit https://www.reddit.com/r/corerpg/ CORE Discord https://discord.gg/eM5u4XesXr CORE Products: https://www.drivethrurpg.com/browse.php?filters=100202_0_0_0_0 https://www.etsy.com/shop/MidwestResinGeek https://www.patreon.com/legendsoftabletop Theme music created by Brett Miller http://www.brettmillermusic.net/

00:00 Introductie04:17 Recensie: Peter Pan & Wendy20:27 Ook nog gezien: Evil Dead Rise, Goodbye Stranger29:13 Recensie: Cairo Conspiracy44:56 Schrijversstaking53:34 VooruitblikSupport the show: https://www.patreon.com/movieinsidersSee omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

What the Riff?!?
1979 - September: Blondie “Eat to the Beat”

What the Riff?!?

Play Episode Listen Later Oct 19, 2020 39:15

Blondie had already established mainstream success by the time they released Eat to the Beat, their fourth studio album.  Their previous album featured the hit singles “One Way or Another” and “Heart of Glass.”  While not duplicating the commercial success of its predecessor, Eat to the Beat would nevertheless showcase Blondie's diversity while continuing to draw a mainstream audience led by the hit song “Dreaming.”Blondie was an American band formed in 1974 by guitarist Chris Stein and vocalist (and former Playboy Bunny) Debbie Harry.  The name of the group was originally called “Angel and the Snake,” but they changed the name to Blondie based on catcalls Harry often heard from truck drivers on the road.  Blondie was a six person band for Eat to the Beat, with Harry and Stein joined by Frank Infante on guitar, Nigel Harrison on bass, Jimmy Destri on keyboards, and Clem Burke on drums. The band came out of the punk and new wave genre originally, but had already achieved crossover appeal (and accusations of selling out) with the disco-influenced “Heart of Glass.”  Eat to the Beat would see further diversity in genre and sound bringing rock, reggae, and disco-influenced tracks complementing the synth-heavy new wave sensibilities. If your familiarity with Blondie is limited to the hits played on top 40 radio, you will be impressed with the variety of sounds and genres represented on this single album..DreamingThis song was written by Harry and Stein, and was inspired by ABBA.  There is a lot of energy in this song, and the drums are a big part of that.  The drummer, Clem Burke, was "blowing through the song," and deliberately overplaying it on this fast-paced take — they ended up using this one for the track. The Hardest PartThe funky sound of this deep cut characterizes the diversity in the album.  The song itself is about a heist.  “The hardest part of the armored guard...big man of steel behind the steering wheel.”ShaylaLed by a synth prelude, this song depicts a woman who works in a factory.  There's an alternative, almost “coffee shop” feel to this one, and it truly showcases Debbie Harry's range in vocal talents.AtomicWe're getting a western or surf music-influenced sound with this fourth track.  Destri and Harry were attempting something similar to “Heart of Glass,” and there is a definite dance feel to the song.  The bass solo in the middle of the song is a nice touch.   ENTERTAINMENT TRACK:The theme from the animated television series “Scooby-Doo”The character "Scrappy-Doo" was introduced to the Scooby-Doo lineup...beginning the start of a long line of mediocre to horrible cartoons. STAFF PICKS:Pop Muzik by MWayne leads off the staff picks with a one hit wonder from a new wave and synthpop music project from London.  M was musician Robin Scott, his brother Julian bass, and his wife Brigit on backing vocals and other backing musicians known as "The Factor."  It is sung from the perspective of a disc jockey spinning records at a dance club.. Lonesome Loser by the Little River BandBrian brings us the distinctive harmonies of the Little River Band.  While the band is from Australia, the founding members were from the UK.  The song is about a guy who is "unlucky in love," but keeps trying rather than taking a hard look at himself and realizing that he won't find love without getting himself right first.  Sail On by The CommodoresBruce's pick features the close harmonies and excellent piano work of Lionel Richie and company from The Commodores and their seventh studio album.  The song itself is a break-up song, but it is more resigned than angry or sad.  "It was plain to see that a small town boy link me just-a wasn't your cup of tea, I was wishful thinking."Goodbye Stranger by SupertrampRob's staff pick is off Supertramp's sixth and fantastically successful studio album  “Breakfast In America.”  Surprisingly, this song did not do well in the UK, but made it to number 15 in the States.  "And I will go on shining, shining like brand new, and when I look behind me my troubles will be few."  Davies and Hodgson wrote the songs, and wrote separately.  INSTRUMENTAL TRACK:Regatta de Blanc by The PoliceStewart Copeland, Andy Summers, and Sting make their third appearance as our instrumental track with the title track to their second studio album.

All good things… The History and Legacy of “Mystery Science Theater 3000”, Chapter 13: Sunset on the Satellite. It's hard saying goodbye. But today, we must do just that and bid farewell to MST3K and this era of the podcast. We discuss the bittersweet series finale and why conclusions are as necessary as they are tearful. The Satellite of Love comes crashing back to Earth, our Mads are scattered to the four corners of the Earth, Gypsy becomes a corporate tycoon, and, most importantly, the central trio of Mike, Crow, and Servo live happily ever after.Oh, apparently there was a movie riffed, the splendid and colorful fumetti adaptation “Danger Diabolik”, which may be the best thing ever lampooned on the show. It has an Ennio Morricone (RIP) score and everything!Let's join hands, toast 11 years of amazing television and look toward a bright future, no tears streaming down our faces. Okay, maybe a few tears. A lot. I'm already crying.(And don't worry. … o como este otro «Bloody Well Right». Buenas Vibraciones.
