With rim-to-rim still off the table, Brian heads off the corridor once again—this time down the historic Grandview Trail to Horseshoe Mesa, joined by lifelong canyon hiker Joe Adlhoch, better known in the community as Facebook Joe.What starts as a “simple” day hike quickly proves otherwise.Grandview wastes no time, dropping more than 1,000 vertical feet in the first mile and never really letting up. Built in the late 1800s to access Pete Berry's mining claims, this trail is steep, narrow, rugged—and surprisingly easy to follow for those ready to respect it.Along the way, Brian and Joe explore:The dramatic cribbing and cliff-hugging construction of GrandviewAbandoned mining relics and the story behind Horseshoe MesaRadiation warning signs, historic mine shafts, and canyon ghosts of the pastWhy Grandview feels familiar to South Kaibab hikers—but hits very differently on the way back upA quiet, sobering reflection on Margaret Bradley and why the canyon must never be underestimatedOut on the edge of Horseshoe Mesa, standing atop the Redwall and looking down at the Colorado River far below, the canyon delivers one of those moments no camera can capture—it's one it forces you to earn. The episode closes with Coach Arnie's training tip, this time focused on the often-ignored hero of canyon hiking: the big toe—and why foot strength, gait, and intention matter more than most hikers realize.Steep. Stefan Baumann Podcast - Inspiration and Insights on Art and Painting
In this Podcast Stefan Baumann describes how to create a body of work that is autobiographical and represents the life with living that we all are on a journey with on this planet. To understand how to create autobiographical work will be the foundation of how we move forward and how we separate ourselves from work created by AI and work that is truly created at a passion. In an age dominated by digital influence and AI, people seek authentic connection. Buyers and audiences want art that reflects real human circumstances and feelings, not just flawless images. They want to feel the presence of an artist who has lived through struggle, joy, doubt, and hope. My creative process embraces chance and randomness. Using my phone like a tool of Russian roulette, I access snapshots of a life worth living. These everyday digital fragments—photos, messages, moments—form an autobiographical record. By reinterpreting them, I create visual stories that reveal truths often overlooked. Each image I choose reflects a part of my life's story, rich with personal meaning. Together, they form a mosaic that speaks to universal human experiences. This emotional connection makes my work uniquely meaningful to collectors seeking depth beyond surface beauty. My art is a living archive of memories and emotions that go deeper than any AI can mimic. It conveys vulnerability, hope, nostalgia—the intangible feelings that give life to my pieces. I want collectors to connect with my work on an emotional level, recognizing themselves in the stories I tell. To do this, I use techniques that embrace imperfection and spontaneity, highlighting raw human emotion rather than polished digital perfection. Even when using digital tools, I prioritize authenticity. I balance technology with intentionality, resisting over-curation to keep the truth of each moment alive. Themes of community, memory, vulnerability, and time run through my art, reflecting what I consider a life worth living: one filled with connection, discovery, and self-reflection. These ideas appear through layered images and symbolic contrasts between presence and absence. Challenges in my life have shaped my artistic voice, adding depth and honesty to my work. These experiences inform how I see the world and the stories I choose to share. What sets my art apart from AI-generated work is its emotional depth and humanity. AI can create images, but it cannot replicate the lived experience and conscious reflection behind my pieces. I am committed to transforming the chaos and beauty of everyday life into art that speaks to our shared humanity. This is the essence of my journey as an artist. #MixedMediaNarratives #HumanVulnerability #MemoryCollage #SpontaneousImagery #LayeredEmotions #AuthenticDigitalArt #AntiAIAesthetics #SelfReflectiveStoriesSupport the showFor more information go to www.StefanBaumann.com https://www.stefanbaumann.com/Free Book For painting, coaching call me on my phone at 415-606-9074
Stefan Baumann Podcast - Inspiration and Insights on Art and Painting
In this podcast learn the secrets of success and how Cris Lawson launched her career with a few good ideas and a lot of hard work. Stefan Baumann interviews Chris Lawson as she explains her insights on how to make your art better, how to put together something that is bigger than just a good idea, and launch it into a success with enough momentum that will carry her our career for years to come. In this interview, we discussed putting together in our show and how to capture the attention of a few major magazines. Stefan Baumann, her coach and mentor, discusses with her the in and out of putting together an event and is good information for all artists to know. Man, you are a dark bully, you couldn't even rise up out of the depths of being mean and at least try to have a pleasant New Year's evening, without bitching and whining and complaining. Everything I do for you all day long, trying to make your life a little easier and making sure you're comfortable and all you do is just blah blah blah you're right daddy I love the way you try to make it wonderful New Year's Eve. It's these kind of eveningsthat brings smiles to my faces because you're such a bright inspiration. Artist Success Interview: Stefan Bauman I had an idea to develop an art show by specifically targeting a market that has been untouched. This focus gave me the motivation to pursue art in a way that stood apart from the traditional paths most artists take. The concept of filling a gap in the market helped me form my initial ideas and clarified my creative direction. The first thing you have to do is improve your artwork. I approached this by understanding the 13 keys needed to create a great work of art. Focusing on these fundamentals allowed me to elevate the quality of my creations and build a solid foundation. Without this step, nothing else would have had the same impact. Improving artistic skill was the crucial starting point for turning ideas into a successful career. How do you define what makes an art project bigger than just a good idea? An art show becomes bigger than just a good idea when it is not merely a one-time event but generates a life of its own. To create something truly impactful, you have to create something big and then be willing to give it away so others can enjoy it. This approach builds momentum and allows the project to grow beyond the initial concept, making the art project sustainable and influential in the long term. What strategies did you use to generate momentum and sustain success over time? Quality artwork is the key. Without quality artwork, you cannot possibly propel your future successfully. Beyond creating great work, it's important to find someone to help you—someone who has been through the process before and can guide you. This combination of quality art and mentorship helps build lasting momentum in your career.. #artinspiration #artistsuccess #mentorshipmatters #qualityart #artcareertips #creativejourney #artshowideas #artistgrowth #behindthecanvas #creativelife #oilpainting #paintings #artshows #easylife #beginnerartist #gallerylife #creativeflow #abstractart #inspirationdaily #nicheart #artshowsuccess #studentartist #artmentorship #emergingart #successfulartist #gallerytalk #behindthescenes #artbusiness #createnicheSupport the showFor more information go to www.StefanBaumann.com https://www.stefanbaumann.com/Free Book For painting, coaching call me on my phone at 415-606-9074

Stefan Baumann Podcast - Inspiration and Insights on Art and Painting
Taking Your Art to the Next Level Stefan Baumann interviews Michael Atkins where they talk about giving good advice on what to know! The top tips interview with top artist making it as an artist! Moving from amateur to professional artist requires more than just talent. It means making a decision to pursue art as a serious career with focus, discipline, and commitment to growth. What inspired Mark Atkins to transition was seeing someone like Stefan Baumann on his PBS show, The Grand View, touring national parks and painting professionally. That moment sparked the realization that he wanted more for his life and that becoming a professional artist was possible. 1. Understand what it means to be a professional artist — it's about focusing your energy on creating art consistently and making money from it, even if it is not your sole income. 2. Recognize the difference between learning as a hobbyist and dedicating yourself as a professional who works regularly to refine craft and develop a market presence. 3. Focus is key — you get what you focus on. Direct your effort toward improving your art and understanding the business side of the art world. 4. Coaching and mentorship are invaluable. They can help you avoid common mistakes, accelerate your growth, and show you how to balance the creative and business sides of your career. 5. Learn key concepts that help your work stand out, such as Stefan Baumann's “13 Keys,” including effective use of light and sense of place, which are essential to creating impactful plein air paintings. 6. Build your audience and create opportunities by engaging actively on social media platforms like Instagram, Facebook, and YouTube, where Stefan has found much of his success. 7. Develop the mindset and discipline to treat your art seriously. This means dedicating time to your craft, planning your career steps, and balancing creativity with business skills like marketing and sales. 8. Measure your progress not only by sales and exhibitions but by your artistic growth and the milestones you achieve along your journey. 9. Avoid common pitfalls such as trying to go it alone without guidance. Finding a coach or mentor can keep you motivated, focused, and help you navigate the complexities of turning your passion into a profession. 10. Stay open to feedback and continuous learning. Professional development thrives with support from others who can offer perspective and advice. Making the leap from hobbyist to professional artist is a combination of mindset, skill development, and strategy. By committing to this path with focus and support, you can confidently grow your art career and achieve your artistic goals. The walls of Jerusalem are finally complete and dedicated, but the work isn't finished until the people offer up thanksgiving and rejoice in God's blessings on their efforts and the Holy City. Nehemiah 12 describes a grand celebration and festival filled with music, choirs, and thanksgiving as the poeple give God the glory for His faithfulness and protection. The priests and Levites lead the way, purifying the people and the city, while the joyful sound of worship echoes far beyond Jerusalem's walls. What will the neighbors think? The Rev. Jeremy Loesch, pastor of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, Grandview, MO, joins the Rev. Dr. Phil Booe to study Nehemiah 12. To learn more about Holy Trinity, visit ourredeemernewark.org. From rubble to renewal, Nehemiah shows how the Lord rebuilds not just walls but hearts. Brick by brick and prayer by prayer, we follow God's people through repentance, courageous leadership, fierce opposition, covenant renewal, and joyful dedication. This verse-by-verse series keeps Law and Gospel front and center, tracing the story from burned gates to the greater Builder — Christ Jesus — who secures a city that cannot fall. Expect honest history, practical application, and the steady comfort of God's promises when the work is heavy and critics are loud. Thy Strong Word, hosted by Rev. Dr. Phil Booe, pastor of St. John Lutheran Church of Luverne, MN, reveals the light of our salvation in Christ through study of God's Word, breaking our darkness with His redeeming light. Each weekday, two pastors fix our eyes on Jesus by considering Holy Scripture, verse by verse, in order to be strengthened in the Word and be equipped to faithfully serve in our daily vocations. On June 2nd, 2007, at 6:30 p.m.,18-year-old Kelsey Smith went to the local Target in Overland Park, Kansas, to buy a gift for her boyfriend, John. Kelsey had just graduated from High School days earlier, was planning on going to Kansas State University in the fall, and was planning on studying veterinary medicine. She and John had been dating for about six months.Once inside the Target store, she called her mom, Missy to ask where she might find gift wrap. Missy told her and Kelsey hung up the phone. At 7:30 John showed up at her house to take Kelsey on a date but Kelsey still was not home. Concerned, her father Greg and sister Lindsay set out to look for her.
