Embark on an intellectual odyssey with the renowned Aurelio Porfiri, who offers more than just a glimpse into his world intertwined with music, literature, and faith. Our latest episode features this multifaceted maestro as he delves into his editorial collaboration with Cardinal Zen on "Cardinal Zen's Lenten Meditations," painting a vivid portrait of his rich journey from the ecclesiastical majesty of Rome to the cultural immersion in the heart of Hong Kong. Porfiri's tapestry of experiences, from mastering the Guzheng to his profound connection with Cardinal Zen, sets the stage for a discussion that traverses the arts, spirituality, and the ever-evolving quest for cultural understanding. With the moral compass of society seemingly spinning out of control, Aurelio joins us to navigate the murky waters of contemporary ethical dilemmas. Our conversation with him brings to light the perils of moral relativism, guided by the wisdom of figures like Cardinal Zen and Bishop Athanasius Schneider. As we confront issues that cut to the core of our civilization, we unwrap the vital need for faith's lantern to lead us through the darkness. Yorta Yorta woman, composer and soprano Deborah Cheetham Fraillon was joined by some of the country's most creative minds for an expansive conversation that reflects on the role of the arts in a post-referendum Australia. Australia, at this time following the Voice to Parliament referendum and with a new national arts and cultural policy, is going to be profoundly changed. The arts has, and will have, a role in reflecting our aspirations – so what do we want? How does the arts articulate and advance this? Hear from: Professor Deborah Cheetham Fraillon AO, Elizabeth Todd Chair of Vocal Studies at Sydney Conservatorium of Music; Michael Dagostino, Director of Museums and Cultural Engagement at the University of Sydney; Guzheng performing artist Mindy Meng Wang; and Host Jess Scully, author and curator. The recording of this podcast was from a live event held on Wednesday 1 November 2023 at the University of Sydney. For today's 'On Location' episode, we're exploring San Francisco in the most iconic way possible. San Francisco's cable cars are not only the first in the world – invented here in 1873 – they are also the last. And though they travel at a mere 9.5mph, with the wind in your hair, the bells ringing and track rattling, it feels more like a roller coaster tour of the city than anything else on the road. Join us for a whirlwind journey, recorded on location, celebrating 150 years and counting of San Francisco's cable cars. As we travel, we're going to stop off at the highlights along the line, revealing the story of the city from its Gold Rush roots to the creativity and diversity that defines it to this day. We'll meet Val Lupiz, a legendary ‘gripman', or cable car operator, for a lesson on what it takes to drive an actual 150-year-old antique. We'll find a hidden music studio above a gift shop in Chinatown, and listen to a performance of a GuZheng, a more than 2,000-year-old traditional Chinese instrument. We'll eat fresh seafood in one of the oldest restaurants in Fisherman's Wharf, drink Mai Tai's during an indoor monsoon at the Tonga Room, listen to an impromptu poetry recital about cable cars, on the cable car itself, and lots more.Recorded on-location, this audio adventure is designed to do more than just let you hear what it's like to be there; it's designed to let you feel what it's like for real. For more information on how you can explore San Francisco for yourself, visit sftravel.com.Thank you to everyone who featured on this show:-       Val Lupiz, Cable Car Museum-       Gimmy Park Li, Wok Wiz Walking Tours-       Fang-Li (and students Katie and Catherine), Shangri-La Gifts-       Josh and Michelle, Fairmont Hotel and Tonga Room-       Tom Creedon, Scomas Restaurant-       James Morehead, Viewless Wings, Viewless Wings Poetry PodcastThis show was produced by Armchair Productions, the audio experts for the travel industry. When you're traveling, the best moments are always the ones that take you by surprise. And while we were making the Exploring San Francisco by Cable Car episode one fell into our lap. We didn't have space in the episode to include the full scene, but if you love music it's something you're going to want to hear.    But let's set the scene first ... we're in Chinatown walking through those beautiful lantern strung streets, pagodas adorned in yellow and gold, temples, and tea shops everywhere, when we stumble upon Shangri-La Gifts.    One of the owners, a young woman named Fang-Yi, is a master player of the Guzheng, a more than 2,000-year-old traditional Chinese instrument. She takes us upstairs to a secret studio above her shop where she teaches Chinese American kids this ancient art form in order to help keep the tradition alive. She introduces us to two of her students and they start to play ...This is the performance we heard. It took us by surprise, it blew our mind and that's what San Francisco's all about.   For more information: sftravel.com   This episode was produced by Armchair Productions, the audio experts for the travel industry. This might outline various uses of calming music, from massage to spa, but it all boils down to the specific person's needs and desires. Understanding Mood Music: Music with the mood of piano and flute is soft and gentle. This song can be described as a work of art, so much so that it shows a mountain in Chinese painting. I have to say that this song captures the true essence of China's landscapes. A study in China found that music can promote peace of mind. To adopt this trend, why not turn to soothing Chinese music that can help promote serenity? Music nerds should also explore different genres, like binaural, delta and alpha waves that are similarly proven to produce relaxing end results. You should try to make an effort to experience happiness as much as you can by paying attention to the positive moments that are happening around you. As while this song is emotional, it has a mix of Eastern and Western influences. If you want to donate to help the podcast grow:

Isn't it EPIC? Chinese music is so relaxing because it is often played at low volumes and has a lot of soft melodies. It also incorporates the sounds of nature, like water and birds. The sounds of bamboo being played on a stringed instrument called a Shamisen, can be very soothing and relaxing to listen to, especially when you are in an environment where you can hear natural sounds like birds chirping or water flowing. Another reason why Japanese music is so relaxing is that it has more complex melodies and harmonies than other types of music. This means that there are more interesting sounds for your brain to process when listening to Japanese music which in turn makes it easier for you to relax. Emotional Zen Japanese & Chinese Bamboo Flute Music with Howling Wind, Forest Sounds, Water - The Way of Life : "The Bamboo Flute's Song: A Journey to Inner Peace" - Three warriors named Lee, Chan, and Shi lived in ancient China during a time of great turmoil and conflict. Despite their skills and bravery on the battlefield, they often found themselves troubled by inner turmoil and a sense of purposelessness. One day, the warriors stumbled upon a zen temple hidden in the mountains. Intrigued by the peaceful atmosphere and the soothing sounds of the bamboo flute and other traditional instruments, they decided to spend some time at the temple in order to seek some much-needed rest and relaxation. As they settled into the temple, the warriors found themselves drawn to the teachings of the zen masters, and they began to practice meditation and yoga. Despite their initial struggles, they slowly began to find a sense of inner peace and clarity. But their journey towards enlightenment was not an easy one. As they delved deeper into their spiritual practice, they found themselves confronted with old wounds and negative emotions that they had been suppressing for years. They struggled to let go of their attachments and ego, and often felt frustrated and discouraged. However, the warriors were determined to find the peace and happiness that they had been seeking, and they continued to persevere. They spent long hours listening to the bamboo flute music and the sounds of the forest and water, and gradually, they began to feel a sense of calm and inner strength. As the days passed, the warriors found themselves becoming more and more attuned to the rhythms of nature and the wisdom of the zen masters. They began to understand the true meaning of peace, happiness, and purpose, and they knew that they had finally found the path that would lead them to true fulfillment. And so, with hearts full of gratitude and a sense of deep inner peace, Lee, Chan, and Shi left the zen temple, ready to face whatever challenges life might bring their way, knowing that they had found the strength and wisdom to face them with grace and equanimity. 有一天,我们只想放下一切,这句话帮助我始终更加努力 你若不想做,会找到一个借口;你若想做,会找到一个方法。 ---------------------------------- Remember, this type of music removes all sorrows, which makes life better. Guzheng music is known for its soothing qualities. It is the most popular instrument in China and has been played since ancient times. Always remember, don't be depressed about the past, don't worry about the future, and just focus on today. If today's not so great don't worry! Tomorrow's a new day, a new chance. 8-Hour of Celestial Guzheng Music-Chinese Harp Music-Relaxing Music-Sleep Music. Perfect for stress relief, study, focus, meditation, and sleep! Bamboo Flute & Guzheng - Instrumental Music for Learning & Sleeping. Chinese instrumental music is one of the most relaxing sounds in the world. The sound of a guzheng, for example, can soothe people's minds and bodies. But why is it so relaxing? The reason why Chinese instrumental music is so relaxing is that it has a slow tempo that matches the natural rhythm of the human heartbeat. This melody also has a low pitch that matches our own voice's natural frequency. The sound of Chinese instrumental music can be described as soft and soothing, which makes it perfect for relaxation purposes. This type of music also provides an escape from reality because it doesn't have lyrics or vocals to distract listeners from their thoughts or problems. "Beautiful sound. Description:This week's installment features the musical and poetic talents of Able Arts Work, San Diego's Service Users in their Collaborative Episode Who I Am Inside, A Tale as Old as Time.  The first piece Musical Poetry Collage was created in Music Therapy Community.  The students explored components of songs that sooth them and bring a sense of comfort.  Then, they each shared a favorite soothing song with their peers, processed verbally and selected two favorite lines that were synthesized into an original poem.  Finally, the students created an original meditative backing track using loops in Logic and recorded instruments.  If you listen carefully, you may hear familiar quotes from some of your favorite songs as well as Chinese instruments like a Dizi and Guzheng, electric and bass guitars, and an ocean disk.  The second piece is an original poem written by Service User, Sarah Shaw titled, Inside Wins.  Sarah is excited to share words that inspire others to see their full potential and embrace who they are inside.  We hope you enjoy listening and find inspiration of your own!
