Focus, Fuel, and Nourishing The Body and Mind for Peak Performance Focus, Fuel, and Nourishing The Body and Mind for Peak Performance with The Meta Project Founder Olly Wood How can busy professionals integrate healthy habits into their lives? How does a healthy body help prevent burnout? Why does most health advice get it so wrong? Why is calorie counting not the full picture? Why are diets so short-term focused? My guest, Olly Wood, a peak performance health expert and founder of The Meta Project, gives us insight into how stress and inflammation affect our bodies, energy, and whole life. Their focus and energy suffer and their stress rise, leading to many additional problems. There are answers and it doesn't have to be too complicated…stay tuned. Rather than simply encouraging high-performers to do more and work harder, Olly has worked with world leading experts in exercise, nutrition, biochemistry, and coaching, such as Brian Walsh, The Poliquin Group, Kassem Hanson, Ben Pukulski, Linh Trinh, and Cliff Harvey, among others, to develop a more holistic, scientific, and sustainable approach to health and performance. Olly came from a small town in NZ and was brought up on homegrown real food. As he grew up and saw how the food industry changed, he realized how many issues were brought back to the lack of nutritional focus and how much food alone can rebuild the body and health. Olly got his start in the trenches of the health world as a PT in a big box gym. After 7 years of working with primarily high-performing business owners, he saw the extent to which stress, inflammation, and a lack of focus on recovery was ruining any progress they were making. Olly refocuses his Peak Performers on the power of nutrition alongside his team of experts in areas of mental health, nutrition, biochemistry & training with a guiding philosophy that you can only push as hard as you recover. Olly's goal is to help professionals in the pursuit of growth and improvement, to make sure they don't leave their body and energy behind, and with this framework can change the way people fuel and nourish their bodies for good. themetaproject.co olly@themetaproject.co fb/olly.wood.902 ig/ollywoodnz/ __________ To learn more about Heather Crider visit www.heatherjcrider.com What You THINK Matters. If I had a broken arm or broken leg, you would not think twice about asking me about it nor providing some level of empathy for my situation. However, if I am struggling with anxiety, depression, or any other emotional difficulty, you would likely shy away from the conversation and avoid it, or you might not even notice my struggle. (As I may also avoid bringing it up as well.) Mental and emotional well-being is mainly swept under the rug yet is crucial for our overall well-being. Our current society has grown to understand and adopt physical fitness as necessary for our physical health and well-being. Just as the importance of money management for our financial well-being. However, the lack of resources and discussion around emotional well-being is staggering. According to the World Health Organization and 2018 Gallup poll, both found that 2/3rd of full-time employees have admitted to some level of stress and burnout. How do these levels of burnout and stress affect our financial, physical, work, and personal lives? They affect our emotional well-being first. Today, on The Go Reflect Yourself Podcast, we discuss emotional well-being, mental health, and overcoming stress in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic with Author and Neurocoach Rachel Kozy. More About The Go Reflect Yourself Podcast The Go Reflect Yourself podcast was created after years of being a corporate employee and an independent business owner. The Relationship of Suffering & Mindfulness in Health Care In this episode of THE GO REFLECT YOURSELF PODCAST we will explore with Dr. Charisse Johnson, Associate Dean of Experiential & Continuing Professional Education and Associate Professor of Pharmacy Practice at Chicago State University College of Pharmacy (CSU COP), the impact of connected suffering: how awareness from mindfulness can help reduce stress, overcome challenges, and have more connectedness. Growing personally and professionally is often hard to do, especially both at the same time AND especially when life's bumpy road becomes bumpier than you plan for. How do you respond? How do you connect with yourself and your suffering? How do you understand what suffering is all about, without judgment or shame? The conversation I had with Charisse Johnson is an extra honest look at how we respond to life and how our personal lives do in fact affect our professional lives and vice versa. Charisse is extremely candid in this conversation and helps guide our perspective of how to approach personal and professional growth through the lens of connecting to our own suffering. Our conversation leads to how mindfulness helps gain the confidence to connect to these skills and how mindfulness has aided in certain areas, especially healthcare. Many people struggle with being in the present moment, or for me…I've struggled with the wondering squirrel brain! They’re told to just meditate and life will then be ‘great’. Although meditation is very positive and powerful, it’s not always easy, especially when you’re not used to it. Are there other forms of ‘meditation’ that can be powerful? What is mindfulness and how does this relate to meditation? These are questions I have wondered and have been studying for some time to fully understand. For each of us, it’s a continuous learning curve, however, I’ve created a few definitions and discoveries of my own. The main discovery is centered around connection and emotional management. One of my ‘tag lines’ is, in order to connect, you must reflect. This statement has varied meanings, but overall, it means connecting with yourself, then being able to connect with others. But in order to do so, you must reflect on how you’re showing up and who you are in all moments and situations. For me, this means being able to get clarity around connecting with myself and around understanding my emotions in all scenarios, first. Then responding. This isn't easy to do, but with practice, it can easier and more part of your routines. In today’s episode of THE GO REFLECT YOURSELF PODCAST we will explore connected mindfulness and what it means. The Go Reflect Yourself Podcast ——- To truly have the life you want; the career, house, family, relationships, car, lifestyle, wealth, freedom, you name it….you must learn what success is and where it comes from, starting with how you think. Your host, Heather J. Crider, CEO of Digital Architect Media, a high-performance strategist, neurocoach, author, and speaker, talks today about connecting with your mind by understanding mindfulness. What you will learn from today’s episode. In order to connect, you must REFLECT. What is mindfulness? How to connect in all moments. Developing a response-based action, versus reactive. Emotional Management Should you meditate? Who should meditate? Are there different kinds of mindfulness? Tune in and as you watch or listen to this special episode. Does the image of yourself align with how you really feel about yourself? There are buzz words being thrown around all the time about being your ‘authentic’ self or showing up fully. The first time I heard someone say “show up and play full out or go home”, I was honestly offended. I didn’t realize what she meant by this and I was like “You Go Home!” (childish I know!) But that was where my mindset was at the time. Even though I ‘thought’ I had a growth mindset, I was quite limited and fixed. There were so many feelings I had and ways of ‘being’ I wanted to become. But my old beliefs were strong. VERY STRONG. They kept me comfortable. They kept me living the words I was saying and supporting my actions (which were not helping me become or achieve who or what I wanted). I had to do some deeeeep reflection and understand some real truths about myself. Once I did. I started showing up fully and playing full out! I started to FEEL more in alignment with WHO I wanted to become. I started to believe in who I was. And I started becoming who I wanted to be…I was now more of an authentic person. But how do you achieve this state of being? You have to: Reflect Discover your core strengths Discover the stories in your head Discover your true values and BELIEVE in yourself. HOW do you do these things? Listen to today’s episode to help discover more! The first woman to row solo across the Atlantic, Pacific, and Indian Oceans. Author of https://www.thegiftsofsolitude.com, inspired by coronavirus. In today’s episode your host, Heather J. Crider, CEO of Digital Architect Media, high-performance strategist, neurocoach, author, and speaker, interviews world-class adventurer, author, and speaker, Roz Savage. So often we desire to have an amazing quality of life. One where we are firing on all cylinders in each key area; personal, financial, professional, etc. However, it doesn’t always work out that we get all we desire. Maybe life is great personally, but not so great financially, or vice versa. Do we notice what’s going on? Do we ignore our dissatisfaction? How are these ‘imbalances’ affecting all areas of our lives? Even amongst times when stress is higher and uncertainty is all around us, this is the perfect time to reflect on who we are and how we show up. It’s a perfect time to start and examine all areas of our life and more importantly, our reactions. This is when we must stop and ask some tough questions. Are we really happy? Are we living a life that fulfills us? Are we sabotaging our success with stories in our heads to protect us from certain emotions? Let’s face it, asking these questions can be hard work sometimes. Even more so, when we feel overwhelmed or especially uncertain about our futures, how do we even start to ask these questions? Listen to this episode on The Go Reflect Yourself Podcast where Roz Savage, a former management consultant, started a journey with some simple questions about her future. Once she started reflecting, she realized the life path she was on was not one that filled her up. Her journey led her to a radical career change becoming a world-class adventurer embarking on voyages of long periods of solitude, becoming the first (and so far, only) female to row solo across the Atlantic, Pacific, and Indian Oceans. She had to redefine her comfort zone on a daily basis and reach deep into her inner sources of strength, self-discipline, and commitment. Listen now to learn more about Roz’s story as well as how to embrace solitude, increase resilience, and stretch beyond your comfort zone for long-lasting change. In this episode, we discuss the power of solitude and how to start self-reflecting to learn more adaptability, resilience, and how to survive amongst the worst storms we encounter. In this episode of Go Reflect Yourself, Roz and I uncover what it takes to make courageous reflective decisions. What you’ll learn: Why you should take time to journal and reflect How to succeed by creating a life of your dreams Why success depends on your ability to have awareness How to enhance your awareness How to listen to your intuition How to survive in solitude How to self-reflect and learn resilience Tune in and as you watch or listen to this special episode.
