Hey everyone, the day so many of us have been long-anticipating has finally arrived! James Gunn has dropped the first FULL LOOK at David Corenswet's Superman suit in the upcoming Superman film (formerly known as Superman: Legacy). This is EASILY my most anticipated upcoming movie because of how much I ADORE all of James Gunn's comic book films and how much Superman, as a character and role model, has meant to me ever since I was a child. In this episode, I break down some details in the suit that have been HEAVILY debated among fans, my thoughts on them and how the suit stacks up against previous theatrical interpretations!

Mairi Barclay is a musical theatre performer who spreads joy and sunshine everywhere she goes. Some people in life are your radiators and she is HOT!! I ADORE this gal! Known as the queen of self-care, this girl knows exactly how to reframe her world into the balance that we're all looking for. Mairi shares with us the reasons as to why resilience is key and how she has managed to navigate the choppy waters of acting so well, generously sharing her anxieties and learnings on the way. Mairi's journey into being a performer began at a very young age and by 10 years old Mairi knew this was her path. Growing up in Fife in a loving and supportive family, Mairi was just 13 when she moved to Glasgow to train in musical theatre alongside her classic education. The resilience she learned in these formative years would ground her and empower her for the tough years ahead. At just 16 years old she auditioned for a place at a prestigious drama school. Having been told she was too young for her dream school of Arts Ed, she embarked on her journey at Italia Conti. Knowing only a few months in that this was not the school for her Mairi bravely left Italia Conti and re-auditioned the year after for Arts Ed where she eventually got a place. Despite there being little funding available Mairi worked a part time job and somehow, with the grit and determination she had been nurturing since the age of 10, managed to pay for her training. Mairi shares with us the ups and downs of the industry, the incredible jobs she done and the times when she had month/years out of work. She talks about the toll this had on her mental health and the importance of her weekly therapy sessions with the industry minds councillor and ex-podcast guest, our beloved Mary Burch. Mairi generously shares her thoughts and experiences with body positivity in the industry and how her incredible role in Lizzie at our most favourite theatre, the Hope Mill Theatre was “the job never knew she needed”. We both make a huge shout out to Will and Joe at the HMT who are leading the way in creating kind, non-judgemental, inclusive rehearsal rooms in order for actors to feel safe and thrive.Mairi Barclay we absolutely love you. I feel happy and joyful when I'm with you. You are the light in the room. Instagram, Facebook and X@mairibarclay Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

What's the sell with a mug cake? Well, it's a single-serve. It comes out hot. It can be done in a work setting without bothering anyone and it's LITERALLY FRESH, HOT, PUDDINGY CAKE.    Want more food tips? Check out the 5 Minute Food Fix Instagram.    Recipe Ingredients 100g caster sugar  100g ground almonds  100g soft butter  1 egg  1 tbs vanilla paste  2 tbs sour cream  1/4 tsp salt  1/4 tsp baking powder  60 ml milk  Also needed: 100g self-raising flour Fresh or frozen berries (see recipe) Method: Mix all the ingredients except flour and berries together in a food processor until well combined.  Remove the blade from the food processor, scrape any batter off, then stir through self-raising flour.  Spoon between 85 - 100g of mixture into your mug or ramekin. Dot with berries. I ADORE raspberries in this when they're in season. Frozen ok too. Blueberries, even cherries will work.  Microwave single serve on high for 1.5 mins and serve immediately. Totally great as is or serve with pouring cream and/or vanilla ice cream.   Portion out leftovers in 85 - 100g amounts into a muffin tin then freeze. You can pop them out once frozen and move them to a plastic bag to take up less space in the freezer. They microwave brilliantly from frozen. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Email me at hello@franexcell.com with any questions or take aways! For more, head over to: www.franexcell.com/ Lessons And Growth In The Dark Scary Times   Well here we are.    Feels like yesterday it was 2019!   So, I'm easing you in with this one in the hope you're still taking as much time as you need for yourself.    As much rest as you need.   As much time with your loved ones as you need.   I for one tend to take the first week of January off and ease myself back in super slowly, no pressure.   I've stayed totally off social media too for 2 weeks which has been wonderful.   I am giving you a bit of a raw one today but I know that it's going to give someone who's going through it at the moment some hope or a different perspective so it's worth the vulnerability hangover.   2022 for so many people, including myself, was a bit of a shocker personally.   It's very easy when things are hard to drown in it and miss all the good that is right there in front of you.  Your brain will be very helpful and filter this for you too if you don't put your conscious hat on and intentionally look for the good bits so remember that. There's always an unconscious filter on everything so pop on your conscious hat and take another look, you never know what you might find.   It's especially difficult when you're surrounded with people's highlight reels, that are LITERALLY highlight reels leaving out all the bits they don't want you to see or know about,  making it look like they've had a wonderful year and you're left feeling a little flat and wondering what's wrong with you.   There's nothing wrong with you my love, you're just comparing apples to pineapples and thinking they're the same.    So here we go…I've been honest about the fact that 2022 was difficult for me personally.    One day I will talk about it all and the lessons but it's not appropriate for me to do that for a little while yet, I know you'll understand.     I've had to let go of what I thought my life was, and what it was going to look like from pretty much every angle.    I've had to let go of some of the things I love the most in my life too.   It's been brutal and incredibly painful honestly, and now I've been ‘in' it a while and starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel I can see it's also been very beautiful.   Things have happened in the last year that I used to think would break me but my goodness it's done the opposite.    The things I used to fear, have happened.  And guess what, I'm still here.   So if you've been through the ringer the last year I hope you can reflect back and see the same, even if you're still in the thick of it I hope you allow yourself to start looking for the value and the lessons that might be there.     My priority in 2022, particularly the second half, was really doubling down and practicing what I preach.     I let go of goals I set for myself at the beginning of the year because they just weren't a priority anymore. (Pssst…you get to change your goals by the way…thought that was an important point to make on Jan 2nd!)   I have looked after myself like never before. I've been in the gym, in the spa, meditating, doing heartmath, tapping, journaling, making sure I'm outside, really simply listening to my body every day and giving it what it needs. (by the way, that's how you improve your confidence and self love too…actually love yourself, treat yourself well and keep promises to yourself, you'll find when you do that you care far less what other people think of you and more about what you think of yourself!)   I've been painfully honest with myself about what's serving me and what's not across all areas of my life.  It's something I do often but I've really gone for it over the last few months and it's very cathartic!     I've let a huge amount of things go. I've burned a lot of stuff down, metaphorically, that were sapping my energy!   I've supported myself like never before. It's actually been really lovely to witness how I've handled things and I'm incredibly proud of myself.    As someone who had such terrible anxiety and negativity and chronic catastophising for most of my life, to be able to handle some of the really big things life can throw at you in the way I have gives me a tremendous sense of pride.     That girl back in 2014 wouldn't have believed the 2023 version could exist.  So wherever you're at right now, I promise it can change! It will take work but your life can be unrecognisable in the best ways.   I'm particularly proud of the calm I'm able to access in the chaos. The way I'm instantly able to shift my perspective. The way I'm able to acknowledge and feel any negative feelings with no judgement and know there's always the calm after the storm that brings with it incredible lessons.   Doing this means that things that could have knocked me down for days previously, last a matter of hours or often just minutes. The magic of allowing yourself to feel your feelings and know that they are valid, valuable and justified!    It's as if every time I move through something negative or dark there's a new layer that sheds and new growth that happens.     I don't fear the big bad things anymore.  I take a deep breath, zoom out and just think about the next step.    I hope you're finding this episode helpful because I think there are too many people who talk about things being sunshine and roses all the time and it's simply not true. I promise you these are the parts that make us who we are. They are the catalyst for growth.  Post traumatic growth is magical. These things that you thought would break you happen and your baseline of happiness, resilience, self worth all shifts for the positive when you allow the growth to happen.   I know and I absolutely trust that the things I thought would break me are actually building me.    That's magic in my eyes.   I don't fear other people's judgement of me because I know it always says FAR more about them than it does about me.   There's so much pressure in this world to show up and be perfect, people will look to tear you down. That's their thing, you don't have to take it on. It's really not about you anyway!   I've been let down by so many people this year who I thought I was close to and had my back. It's been very painful at times but also I'm grateful because I don't want that energy in my life.    When people SHOW you who they are, believe them.  You get to grieve who you thought they were and what you thought you had, but know it was never really there in the first place and you will be far better without them. Let the gap they leave create space for amazing people to come into your life.    I'm very solid in my opinion of myself these days.  I don't need validation from anyone outside of me, nice as it is when it happens ha!    I know who I am and I'm excited for who I'm going to be in the future.   I've also allowed myself to be supported like never before.  This was newer for me this year.  I've always been very independent and identified as ‘capable' of doing everything myself. It's been something I've really practiced and worked on and it's brought so many beautiful things into my life. I've talked about it in a previous episode.    I'm not putting any pressure on 2023.  It will involve some things that I never thought I'd be doing.  Things that I don't want to do.  Things that are hard, sad, heartbreaking and challenging to my ego but I promise you the episode you hear this time next year will blow your mind.   So whatever your last year has looked like please allow yourself to zoom out and start to get excited about the potential positive possibilities.   I can see them so so clearly now, and I AM excited. What an adventure I'm going on.    And I hope that you can start to see things that way.     Please remember that the 1st January is just another day.    It's a societal thing that has made it so important and made people feel like it's the ONLY day of the year where you really need to get your shiz together and if you don't stick with it you're a mighty failure.   I don't believe in resolutions that set you up to fail and don't take the science of habits into account and are set through a lens of all the things that you think are ‘wrong' or ‘not good enough' about yourself.    No thank you.   I like to do things a little differently.    I love this time of year for reflection and I also love it because as much as you really can do this any day during the year, I do like the energy of a clean slate. I just take away the pressure.   You're perfect as you are. If you want to tweak some things this year from a place of self love rather than self judgement then I'm so here for that.    Although there are still some hard things to come for me in 2023, I know I'm going to handle anything that comes my way.      There are lessons I've learned, and am still learning that I will be forever grateful for. Even though they SUCKED at the time.    I know who my people are. I know who I am!   There are also plenty of exciting things that are coming up for me this year outside the personal growth I know is coming my way in abundance.   There is going to be an even more affordable and accessible way to use the Positive Pants Toolkit app coming very soon that I'm really excited about.   There are hugely exciting developments with the podcast AND the potential launch of 2 more.  One that ties in nicely with this one but longer form interviews so I KNOW you're going to love that one.    And one that's something I'd love to do just for fun. So keep your ears peeled for those.    I'm going to be doing more individual enneagram sessions and bringing you the gift of sweet sweet self awareness and the roadmap to your own growth and happiness.  If you're not following @enneagramandexcell please do go follow, there's a link to book your session in the bio over there too. I ADORE these sessions because they never fail to blow clients minds and completely shift the way someone sees themselves. So much self compassion comes from understanding your enneagram type and it gives me chills to see how that shifts for someone.   You can also now work with me 1:1 through your company, just email hello@franexcell.com and put me in touch with your HR or learning and development contact.     I'll also be doing more corporate trainings and workshops too which again, if you'd like me to come into your company or work with your team just put me in touch with the people responsible and we shall make it so.  I've worked with some very cool companies this year around understanding self sabotage and emotional regulation tools and techniques as well as the enneagram and it all brings me absolute joy so the more the merrier!   Instead of fixing any goals for myself this year outside of continuing to look after myself and support myself to the best of my ability and lean into what my body is telling me it needs, I'm going with authenticity and flow.    There are still a lot of unknowns in my world, and a little more pain to get through so i'm going to allow myself to follow the nudges.  I'm letting things unfold, feeling my feelings, allowing myself to say yes to opportunities or to what scares me.    And also…lots of healing.   I hope wherever you're at or however you're feeling today that you know how much you matter.    Fx

Email me at hello@franexcell.com with any questions or take aways! For more, head over to: www.franexcell.com/ How To Handle Feelings Of Scarcity   I feel like now is a very good time to talk about how to handle feelings of scarcity with all the constant bombardment of talk around the cost of living crisis, rising inflation and recession.   Oof it's a biggie.   The trouble is that is what often perpetuates the issues and causes things to get worse in some sort of ironic vicious cycle.   I need to caveat this whole episode because I of course can't talk to every single person's individual situation right now and this episode is NOT about financial advice because I'm not a financial advisor, accountant or in any way qualified to give it.    What I am qualified to do is to try and help give a shift in perspective and talk about the best tools at your disposal to help you manage those feelings of scarcity.   There are always going to be practical things to take into consideration.     However, the mental and psychological aspect of scarcity can often feel even worse than the reality.   The reason I want to talk about this today is because I'm seeing people really become unstuck at the seams at the moment and making big rash decisions, largely due to the sheer amount of scaremongering that's going on in the media.   The financial situation in the UK and other parts of the world is a very real concern for a huge amount of people AND it can be made ten times worse when we're not properly looking at our own individual situations but we're also comparing ourselves to other people at the same time.   The media can't report YOUR unique situation and I can't talk to it either so this episode is about trying to get a handle on a few practical mindset exercises that you can do and to give you a potential shift in perspective or alternative viewpoint and get you out of the threat response that could be causing you to fight, flight or freeze right now.   When we're in fight or flight mode our prefrontal cortex literally goes offline.    We need our prefrontal cortex as the CEO of our brains for conscious, rational thought, decision making, rational thinking.   With that offline we're stuck in fear mode and autopilot and that's not helpful and you cannot make good decisions from that place.   If you're running a business, scarcity is never a good place to be.  You will not take good actions from that place so it needs to be looked at.    So where do we start trying to shift this a little?   Firstly, look at your own finances.     I always recommend clients have a REAL picture of their finances. Personal and business.    I personally do this with multiple tracking spreadsheets for business and personal that are super easy to manage (I'm an enneagram 6, of course I'm prepared for anything ha!) I know exactly what's coming in and what's going out.     I know exactly how much my business costs per month and what my personal expenses are and know exactly what I NEED to make in the business to live how I want and what to pay myself every month.   Just having this information takes away a huge amount of anxiety and gives you a lot of control back.   Plus it stops the ‘I MUST have ‘10k months or I'm not good enough and my business isn't successful' mindset that's infiltrated your brain from all the marketing messages out there.    That's my next tip.    Think about what messages have infiltrated your brain (and WHY, who does it benefit you having them) vs what's actually reality.    Marketing is rife with ‘not enough' messaging because that's what keeps you buying. Remember that.  You could easily have a 6 figure business with no money to pay yourself AND you can have a £40k per year business and have loads of personal disposable income.    These things can exist at the same time and it's one of the many reasons why you should never compare your finances to someone else's because it really means absolutely nothing and you NEVER have the whole picture.   You could very easily cancel tonnes of memberships or subscriptions but before you do, really look at them.    What makes you feel good?     What makes your life easier?    What could make a big difference for you if instead of cancelling you actually decided to USE?    Think of the bigger picture.    As an example, I have a health membership that I barely look at. It would be easy to say that's a ‘non essential' but I wholeheartedly don't agree.    I get amazing tips in there (even though I'm barely in it) that I do implement.    Having the membership (even though I'm barely there) holds my health in my consciousness day to day and in turn it makes me healthier.     I make better choices and health is a huge focus for me at the moment. It's also a comfort to know there are lots of recipes and recommendations in there if I choose to use them and I know I can go and get a question answered in the group if I choose to. See what I'm saying?   There's always another way to look at something.   So now we're a little clearer on the actual picture in front of us and feeling a little more in control. Let's look at the next step, it's a controversial one in the online business industry and one I've always gone against the grain with.   Get a job!    I said what I said!    Job is not a dirty word. Jobs are investors into your business.   They're also ways to KEEP going and moving towards your dreams in my opinion. Especially when there's so much uncertainty.    It could be full time, part time, contract, freelance. Lots of potential options.Particularly now so many of them are remote working.  It really opens up some new doors.    The only people who have told you that having a job is a ‘bad' thing and means you aren't successful or your business isn't successful and you aren't good enough are the marketers that stand to profit from your fear around that.   When I had both my job and my business the enneagram 6 in me was SO happy.    While instead of fearing redundancy and job losses I was happy as Larry knowing I had my business income if I lost my job.    In my business I was always happy as Larry because I never had to do anything ‘because of the money'. I could be very picky over who I worked with and never made decisions from a place of lack or scarcity.  How bloomin glorious.    Yes it helped that I enjoyed my job. That was a privilege but I've absolutely done my fair share of shockers for the greater good.   I only left my job when it got in the way of some of the big things I really wanted to do in my business because there was a conflict of interest.  Otherwise in all honesty I think I'd still have it.   I know SO many hugely successful business owners that also have jobs. It's a total fallacy that having one means you're not successful.  It's made up. Do what's right for you.  It's absolutely personal preference.    The bottom line is if you're in scarcity and panicking about paying your bills you will not feel good and you will not make good decisions. Recurring revenue, whether that's from payment plans or a job it really doesn't matter. You know your bills are paid and that gives you freedom in itself.   On that note, for my glorious listeners who are in jobs and don't have businesses,  why not start a side hustle.  For exactly the same reasons!   It doesn't have to be anything fancy, just something you enjoy.     Do you love making things?    Do you create art?    Can you start an Etsy shop?    Can you teach music lessons locally?    Do you love gardening?    Could you be a tutor?    Mark exams?   Back in the day when I was trying to figure out my life after it imploded I made a pros and cons lists of everything I could or would enjoy doing (very enneagram 6 of me of course!)    One of the things I put down on my little map of ‘Fran's passions and skills' was finding bargains and selling them on for profit. I ADORE charity shops and car boot sales and I find countless treasures that could be sold on for more. I get a BIG kick out of it.   Tonnes of it you can even get for free, particularly on Facebook marketplace and Nextdoor.   If you also want a few ideas on upcycling as an option too go check out one of my absolute business besties Abi Hugo over @thewhitethistle because she's always turning free stuff into GORGEOUS creations that could sell for a fortune.   On that note and based on last week's episode, have a big declutter and sell what you're going to chuck on ebay or facebook marketplace etc.  There are lots of other options too now, I think vinted is one i've seen but I can't speak for how good it is.    Get on community sharing apps, Nextdoor and Olio are the two biggest I know of.    There are also community Facebook groups where people are often doing swaps or giving things away for free.    Lastly for today, check your thoughts.    I'm always saying we have to ‘deal in truth' with ourselves.    This requires being curious and conscious of our thoughts. Grab your journal!   What's going on for you right now?     What are the thoughts around money coming up for you right now?   Are they true?   Are they based in truth and fact?   Are they based in the present?   Or are you future tripping and feeling out of control?   Remembering that we are not our thoughts and that we are the observer of our thoughts is a life changer.    You do not have to believe everything that pops into your head.    Find those thoughts, write them down and consciously challenge them.   Do the somatic work that is going to soothe your nervous system and bring you back into balance and let your prefrontal cortex come back on line and back into the driver's seat.  EFT/tapping, Meditation, breathwork or yoga for example.   Prioritise looking after yourself and actively helping your nervous system.   Allow yourself to think outside the box and see all the potential possibilities.    Like I say, I'm not giving you advice, I'm hopefully simply sparking some potential ideas! (I am not a financial advisor in any way!)   This is absolutely not an exhaustive list of ideas either. These are just the ones literally off the top of my head.    The bottom line is there are SO many ways to bring in some extra income but if you're stuck in fight or flight you won't see them.    It's even more important to shift the thoughts and beliefs around what you're making doing any of these things ‘mean' about you as a person!    There are often SO many more options in front of us but if you can't even think straight to look you won't find them.   Be conscious of what you consume media-wise and allow yourself to challenge it.    Remember…You have got this.    Fx

Welcome to the first mentee case file episode of this entrepreneurship season!  I'm so looking forward to bringing you “how I did it” stories from some of the women I have the extreme privilege and joy of mentoring. Scaling up their businesses is one of the most common objectives entrepreneurs have, and Lucy's story is packed with insights and lessons on how she's done it - and continues to do it - for her business. Lucy Beytagh is the founder of the specialist communications agency, The LKB Agency - however it wasn't always an agency.  She had been operating as a one woman consultancy for over 15 years before she reached out to me in early 2019.  Over the last two years, she has successfully transitioned her business to a six-person team. I ADORE working with this woman - she is so smart, humble, brilliantly efficient and a stellar communicator.  In this episode she shares the step-by-step of how she did it - the aha moments, the challenges and the wins.  I think you'll learn a lot from her, including: What the turning point (or breaking point?!) was for her in changing the model The realisation that the business biz needed to devolve away from her and how she felt about that The very first steps she took towards an agency model - including a rebrand How she built the team out, which roles she started with and why Communicating to clients (especially those who had only ever had her) that new team members were joining, and how she moved work away from herself  How she has maintained client relationships even though her client contact has reduced The difference an agency model has made - pros and cons for Lucy, and for the business The advice she would pass on to other business owners aiming to do what she's done  To find out more about The LKB Agency and Calm Communication, visit: thelkbagency.com.au.  Lucy is on Instagram as @lucy_thelkb_agency and you can find the business at @thelkb_agency.  And to enquire about mentoring with me, visit: lorrainemurphy.com.au/work-with-me/mentoring See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Are wet dreams sinful? Are there any exceptions in which getting a vasectomy would be permitted? Ask Christopher West is a weekly podcast in which Theology of the Body Institute President Christopher West and his beloved wife Wendy share their humor and wisdom, answering questions about marriage, relationships, life, and the Catholic faith, all in light of John Paul II's beautiful teachings on the Theology of the Body. Want to support the Theology of the Body Institute and have a better chance of us answering your question? Join our Patron Community (https://tobpatron.com)! Patron Question: I submitted a question to you a few weeks ago but I HAD to thank you for recommending John Paul IIs "Jewelers Shop." It has changed me, maybe forever. Utterly. Also, your beautiful words regarding Elisabeth Leseur: I was aware of her but it was wonderful to hear. She is one of my “special saints.” Finally, I'm doing a doctorate on spirituality, embodiment, and dementia. I see so much in Theology of the Body that relates. Maybe I can someday work with you on issues related to aging. It's a challenging field, dementia and TOB. God bless! I Adore you both! Question 2: Christopher, how would you approach the topic of wet dreams? To me they seem involuntary or uncontrolled, and the sometimes very lustful content of them shocks me. Since I don't masturbate or watch porn anymore, and desire to live chastely. I have them about once a week, and when I wake up, I'm usually a little bit confused about my body and my mind. Qestion 3: I just listened to Matt Fradd's latest interview with you and found it beautiful. I'm a father of four who's just coming up on forty this year and was really struck by your reflections on parenting, growing older, and God's Grace throughout it all. My wife and I both really enjoyed it. Speaking of my wife, we have been married for almost twelve years and have four beautiful children. We met in church and were, right out of the gate, practitioners of and advocates for the Theology of the Body and Natural Family Planning. Yet now, I find myself waiting for a urologist consultation to get a vasectomy. I'm in a position where it is unsafe for my wife to become pregnant. In fact, my doctor said he normally dissuades young men from getting them but is making an exception because of my wife's situation. Being married for over a decade and being around other long-lasting marriages has revealed a lot of otherwise conservative Catholic couples with lots of kids who use contraception. I cannot see any demonstrable reason why it's bad, in an otherwise healthy marriage, unlike abuses like porn or alcohol addiction. So, between our medical situation and my lived experience, I'm struggling. I understand there's Natural Family Planning, but we've experienced two surprise pregnancies and we honestly view it now with suspicion. That's where I'm at. I've talked to priests about this and other strong Catholics. Their advice always is, "The Church's teaching is clear but you are right to protect your wife." Again, it was a wonderful talk with Matt Fradd and I'm sure God led us to it for multiple reasons. I hope you can give me some clarity to square my conscience with Church teaching. The Whole View, Episode 461: Oats-M-G, Are These Actually Healthy? Welcome back to episode 461! (0:28) Stacy has mentioned in the past how great she feels when she includes some oats in her diet. She clarified that it's not something she loads up on daily. Finding high-quality, gluten-free, and non-glyphosate was a game-changer for her as well. For years, Stacy and Sarah have talked about how grains were problematic for digestion, proper absorption of nutrients, and gut health. However, it's important to revisit how we look at food with a scientific approach as often as possible. Both Stacy and Sarah's health journeys took a path through the Paleo Diet to a point where they are now very open to experimenting with foods they were not maligned to for a long time. For Sarah, that means revisiting the science of these foods to get away from the idea of grouping foods together and instead look at the pros and cons of individual foods and how they can fit into an overall healthy diet to empower others to experiment. Sarah is a self-described Thrive Market junkie, and many of the (non-sponsored) products she and Stacy will be discussing can be found on their site.  They also have a great feature called subscribe and save, where you can save money on products you buy regularly! Listener Question Sarah and Stacy have received many questions on this topic. This question in particular resonated the most: First off, I ADORE you both. I feel like you are my best friends and just don't know it yet :) I want to eat raw heads of lettuce (I've done this for years!) and get angry about poorly conducted research with Sarah, and go lift heavy weights while discussing clean beauty with Stacy. I can't get enough of you guys! So, my question is related to oats. Because my diet has been restrictive for so long while I've tried to heal my digestive system after being diagnosed with celiac three years ago, I have now developed anaphylactic responses to a lot of paleo foods. I was really happy this month when I was successfully able to reintroduce rice and oats, finding them to actually feel calming on my stomach. Because my list of paleo foods that I am reacting to keeps growing longer the more I rely on them, I am finding myself turning to these other foods like legumes, rice, and oats, on a daily basis in order to simply get enough food in. While I seem to tolerate it, it makes me nervous that I may be doing long term damage. I know you have discussed briefly how rice and some beans are actually not bad for the gut, but that was still always with the caveat of them being eaten "occasionally." And I don't think I've heard you discuss oats much at all.  Could you perhaps address the effect of GF oats on the microbiome, as well as the overarching effects of a diet that includes a lot of these "non paleo" foods, but in the context of an otherwise veggie and fruit rich diet with only healthy fats, high quality meat and organ meats, and no refined sugars?  Thank you! I love you both and am so thankful for all you do! - Anna Dogma of Paleo and Other Rigid Diets Stacy shares how much this question resonates with her. She first started on this health journey from guilt and feeding into the dogma of paleo that glorifies some foods and demonizes others. (8:00) In fact, what qualifies as a "paleo" food will vary from person to person. It's okay to lean into foods that make you feel good even if they don't fit a diet "framework" of what good and bad for you. For example, it was easy for Sarah to lump oats in with wheat and other grains and not critically evaluate it independently. Paleo has a very rigid set of rules, and it's important to Sarah to give listeners the tools and confidence needed to find what works best for them as individuals. Even if you stray from the framework of a particular diet but still identify with the term Paleo, there's nothing wrong with that. What works today might not work two years from now. It's okay to change to something better suited for what we need in a moment. Stacy stresses that they are not here to tell you what good, bad, and qualifies under a certain label.   Health Benefits of Oats Oats have been very well studied for at least 30 years and have some well-established health benefits. (16:27) Whole grain oat products have shone to positively impact coronary heart disease, diabetes, satiety/weight management, low glycemic index, and blood pressure.  These characteristics are mainly attributed to the high content of oat-specific beta-glucans, which are soluble food fibers. However, some people don't do well with oats. This is likely due to gluten cross-contamination. Gluten is a prolactin that is inflammatory that increases intestinal permeability, and is linked to adiposity signals. But avenin, prolamin type lectin, may not be as bad. Oats are often grouped in with wheat and barley as problematic, but not because oats themselves are a problem. Avenins are present at a lower concentration (10%–15% of total protein content) in oat as compared to gluten in wheat (80%–85%). The avenins in the genus Avena are free of the known CD immunogenic epitopes from wheat, barley, and rye. T cells that recognize avenin-specific epitopes have been found very rarely in CD patients. In fact, avenins are highly digestible and don't come out half-digested like gluten often does. Unlike gliadin peptides, oat peptides are also sensitive to digestion by pepsin, trypsin, and chymotrypsin in the gastrointestinal tract. They are unlikely to have any clinical relevance. Some cultivars of oats are gluten cross-reactors, meaning that if your body forms antibodies against gluten. But this appears to be a fairly low-frequency cross-reactivity and even not a problem for most people with celiac.   High Likelihood of Cross Contamination However, oats are often processed on the same wheat, making the potential contamination pretty high. For example, the U.S. specification for No. 1 oats allows the presence of up to 2% foreign material, which could be all wheat and barley! So yes, the biggest con of oats is that it's frequently contaminated with gluten. As we discussed on a recent show, upwards of 55% of people, have at least one gluten sensitivity gene.  Stacy references Oat O's and Thrive Market (not sponsored on this show!) for reduced risk of cross-contamination and what she personally leans on. For more information, Sarah recommends: frontiersin.org/articles/10.3389/fped.2019.00384/full tandfonline.com/doi/full/10.3402/fnr.v60.30324 journals.plos.org/plosmedicine/article?id=10.1371/journal.pmed.0010001 Oats Nutrient-Density Although oats fare better than other grains, they are nutritionally underwhelming per calorie. (26:50) A 100-gram (2/3 cup) serving of oats has a moderate glycemic load (37) but serves a fairly high (389) in calories. That serving of oats does provide an impressive 246% DV for manganese and 40-50% DV for vitamin B1, magnesium, and phosphorous. It also provides 20-30% DV of iron, copper, zinc.   Not too shabby... but not crazy impressive either. Sarah has been calculating Nutrivore Scores, and oats are the third-highest grain after corn and buckwheat. She adds that this is neither a pro nor a con for oats but shouldn't really be considered a "foundational" part of your diet, but rather fit in for added benefits.  Revisit 29:30 to figure out what Stacy is talking about with more context.   Oats and the Microbiome That same 100-gram serving contains a whopping 10.6 grams of fiber, including being particularly rich in a very special soluble fiber: mixed linkage beta-glucan. (34:31) This is a highly fermentable fiber that feeds anaerobic microbes in the gut and significantly increases the production of the short-chain fatty acids butyric and propionic acids. Oats contain 3-7% beta-glucan! Studies show over and over again that beta-glucans from oats significantly increase the growth of very important probiotic strains of Bifidobacterium as well as the Lactobacillus-Enterococcus group.   And oat beta-glucans seem to be better than beta-glucans from other grains. One study showed that an oat-based diet resulted in higher Bifidobacteria levels than either a barley-based or wheat-based diet supplemented with equivalent amounts of beta-glucan. In addition, these high levels of beta-glucan appear to be the "magic ingredient" behind oat's most famous properties, including their cholesterol-lowering effects.  This occurs because beta-glucan increases the viscosity of the chyme in the upper GI tract, leading to increased binding and secretion of bile acids.  In turn, plasma cholesterol becomes a substrate for newly formed bile, causing blood levels to decrease. Beta-glucans contribute to the maintenance of normal blood cholesterol levels. Consumption of beta-glucans from oats and barley as part of a meal (4 g/30 g carbohydrates) contributes to reducing the blood glucose rise after that meal (EU 432/2012). Oat grain fiber contributes to an increase in fecal bulk (EU 432/2012). Reducing saturated fat consumption contributes to the maintenance of normal blood cholesterol levels (EU 432/2012). Oat beta-glucan (3 g/day) has been shown to actively lower/reduce blood cholesterol. High cholesterol is a risk factor in the development of coronary heart disease (EU 1160/2011). In addition, oat fibers increase the fecal bulk, which contributes to a normal stool and positively impacts the functioning of the microbiome. Oats in particular also have high bioactive potential and relatively high lipid content relative to other grains. Their unique composition contributes some special benefits to gut health compared to other whole grains.   Surprise! Oats Are Super Digestible Protein content in the oat groat is relatively high (15%–20% by weight), as is the digestibility of oat protein (90%), and the majority (85%–90%) of oat protein consists of globulins. (43:15) This is in contrast to wheat, in which the vast majority consists of gluten.  Starch (about 60% of the total dry weight) is a major component of the oat grain. The amylopectin: amylose ratio is about 3, and the digestibility of oat starch is about 100%.  Oat starch digests slowly, partly due to high amounts of fiber and the high oil content in whole grain oat, which retards stomach emptying and improves digestion.  This results in a gradual supply of glucose to the intestine, which maintains a long feeling of satiety. As a result, whole grain oat foods have a low glycemic index (GI), which is advantageous in cases of diabetes and obesity. Compared to other cereals, oat grains have a relatively high oil content of on average 7% oil, but some varieties can have up to 18%: The three most abundant fatty acids are palmitic (C16:0; 20%), oleic (C18:1; 35%), and linoleic (C18:2; 35%) acids, which account for about 90%–95% of the total fatty acids.  The largest part is thus unsaturated, but there is more omega-6 than omega-3.  Alpha-linolenic acid (18:3, omega-3) is notably present in the oat germ.  The high lipid content can also hurt the sensory quality of oat products because of lipid oxidation, which produces fatty acid hydroperoxides and volatile aldehydes, causing rancidity.  Therefore, before further processing, oats are kilned—a high-temperature treatment to inactivate especially lipases.   So, Which Oats Are Best? Sprouted is best! Sprouting happens the seed is trying to turn itself into a plant. However, they are tough to sprout at home unless you buy unkilned oat groats. (48:35) The nutritional and bioactive properties and key enzymatic activities were studied in sprouted oat powder and compared with those of oat grain powder (control).  Sprouted oat powder was an excellent source of protein (10.7%), β-glucan (2.1%), thiamine (687.1 μg/100 g), riboflavin (218.4 μg/100 g), and minerals (P, K, Mg, and Ca).  This presented better amino acid and fatty acid compositions and levels of γ-aminobutyric acid (54.9 mg/100 g), free phenolics (507.4 mg GA/100 g), and antioxidant capacity (1744.3 mg TE/100 g) than control.  Enhanced protease and α-amylase and reduced lipase activities were observed in sprouted oat powder. Promising features to improve its nutritional, sensorial, and health-promoting properties! Since 2009 (EC 41/2009) and 2013 (FDA), oat products may be sold as gluten-free in several countries provided a gluten contamination level below 20 ppm. Note: 20ppm may still be too high for celiac or gluten allergy! Types of Oats Interestingly, when it comes to oats, the size of the flakes appears to make a difference in how the gut microbiota are affected.  One study found that thick oat flakes, but not thin oat flakes, increased Bifidobacterium levels during fermentation while also producing 2.5 times more butyrate than the thin oat flakes. The authors of this study suggested the resistant starch content of the thick oat flakes may explain these differences. Steel-cut oats have a little more resistant starch, slightly higher beta-glucans, and higher total fiber than old-fashioned rolled oats. Remember, old-fashioned rolled oats are better than quick oats.   One small study showed slightly higher butyrate production with steel-cut oats than old-fashioned, but it wasn't statistically significant.   Sarah recommends One Degree brands for the best-sprouted oats (not sponsored! Just a Sarah-approved favorite). Personally, Stacy and Sarah have both Old Fashion and Steel Cut oats currently in their pantries. Sarah recommends using an instant pot as well! Sarah's ideal recipe is 2 cups steel cut oats, 5-6 Cups of water (depending on how thick you like your porridge), and 1/2 a teaspoon of salt (scale up or down as desires). In Instapot, cook for 4 minutes on high pressure and then let the pressure naturally decline. Add flavoring as needed, such as maple syrup to slightly sweeten. Stacy also recommends trying this pumpkin oatmeal recipe, which has always been a crowd-pleaser.   How to Experiment  Sarah recommends starting by utilizing a food journal to see if you're reaching your nutrient targets for the day. If you are, first cut out the food from your diet for at least two weeks, even including trace amounts. This ensures you're testing your actual reaction and not the reaction you're currently having while already consuming the food. This helps you isolate and identify. Next, pick a day to challenge when you're feeling good, slept well, not stressed, and not eating anything else out of the ordinary. If you're worried about an allergy response, make sure you go slow since they can get really big very fast. If you check for sensitivity, like mood, stomach, or skin issues, it's okay to go more all-in. If you're not sure if something was a reaction (mild reactions can be tough), give yourself a few days to reset, and then try again to see if you have the same experience. If you're thinking about experimenting with oats, Sarah recommends buying sprouted oats (which reduces anti-nutrient content) that are certified gluten-free.  Be sure to follow a methodical reintroduction protocol!  Also, oats are way less likely to be tolerated by people with celiac disease (and potentially other autoimmune diseases) or anyone who has tested positive for wheat/gluten or oats on a food allergy/intolerance screen in the past.    Final Thoughts Sarah views oats as a "sometimes food" due to the importance of quality. (1:01:30) Stacy's philosophy is all about variety and introducing foods to develop a palate. And the more science we look at, the more we can emphasize foods we know are beneficial to our gut and health overall. It's important not to emphasize "yes" and "no" in terms of food, but instead look at each food as an individual in terms of a healthy diet overall. Identifying your triggers is very important, and knowing that not every food will work for every person. Be sure to head over to Patreon for bonus content on how Stacy and Sarah really feel about this topic and more! Your subscription supports this show and gets your questions first in line. Thank you for your great question, Anna, and thank you, listeners, for joining us! We will see you next week.

Our first co-hosted Yays of our Lives episode with two absolute legends Abbey Gelmi (ep 81) and Gemma Watts (ep 85) squeezed in during a girls night catch up that was filled with yay (so how could we NOT record all our musings?) Even in the time that has passed since their respective episodes of the show, many subsequent seeds have come to fruition in their lives so these two made the perfect guests to join us for a chat on patience, hard work and trusting the process.I initially thought this new segment would fall into quite a consistent routine like our regular interview scheduling, but I've actually really enjoyed how different each week has been and LOVED the pace and laughter of having co-hosts on board. As always, however, this is a yayborhood production so I'd LOVE to know if you enjoyed having a few different voices in your ear with some tangential banter (and, if so, I'll start lining up some more co-hosts for the coming weeks). Please never hesitate to flick me your thoughts by DM or email any time, you know I ADORE connecting with you all.+ Announcements on Insta at @spoonful_of_sarah+ Join our Facebook community here+ Subscribe to not miss out on the next instalment of YAY!

If you don’t have one you do have a business but getting sales and traction will be harder unless you’re doing a personal outreach or networking strategy.    But let’s release the pressure valve a little shall we?   Firstly, in my opinion, you really don’t KNOW who your ideal client is until you’ve started working with people, this applies mainly to the coaching industry.   Start with an idea of who they are...not an attachment to who they are.   I had an idea of who my ideal client was, got one and it was a nightmare because they weren’t invested in the results.    So I tweaked it as I went along.  It evolved as I went along and I allowed myself the time to get clearer and clearer and niche down further.   The thing with niching too is people seem to think it means that no one else will see or resonate with your message.  It’s not true.   I think of it like a dart board.  You’re aiming for the bullseye but there are lots of other ways to score high points around the board.   For example my niche is female business owners who self sabotage.   I still attract men to work with me.   I still attract a lot of people without businesses to work with me.   A lot of people come to me because they want a big life change.  So even though I talk about everything in the context of business and I have a top ranked business podcast...I still get people who don’t have businesses.  Because it’s relatable to both people.  Same issues, different context.   So don’t worry about cutting certain people out.   You can also have different products or services for people at different stages.  I work with people just starting out...and I work with 7 figure business owners!    So what i’m saying is, firstly, you aren’t married to your niche.  You get to change it.  Same with your ideal client.  You get to change it.   Yes it may make things take a little longer than if you just cracked it first go (which let’s be honest...no one does!) but rather that than end up in a niche that it turns out you don’t enjoy...or working with people that are actually a bit of a nightmare.  It’s all part of the journey.   Now the next one is close to my heart.  When something just doesn’t feel right anymore.  You may not even be able to put your finger on why but it just doesn’t feel right anymore.   Businesses evolve, as do people.  This happened for me recently.  I have my Proactive Pants Mastermind and I ADORE the ladies that were in it.  But the format wasn’t working for me anymore.     So I made the decision to close it down in its current iteration.     Instead of being ongoing month on month it’s going to be relaunching as a 3 month programme starting in January.  Where everyone starts and finishes at the same time (which helps with relationships because everyones in the same boat) and with the focus on something core that you want to achieve for the quarter that you’ve been holding yourself back from.   I’m SO flipping excited for it, it's put the fire back in my belly.   I already know it works for clients...I needed to get it to work for me too.  That’s just as important.  To put me in the best place to be able to help everyone achieve exactly what they want to and get the amazing results I know they can.     I’m in the process of completely shifting up my business model which also helped make my decision.   I’ve got a SUPER exciting partner launch coming up around October with my friend Lisa Johnson (who you’ve met on the podcast before and is coming back to tell you a little more about what she does to make her the big bucks and still get to travel the world….in an actual genuine way...not an influencer stand in front of a porch that’s not yours kind of way) so stay tuned if you want to learn how you can massively increase your bottom line...working LESS! No more feast or famine of the 1:1 model.   More scalability.   More passive and regular revenue so you know where you’re at each month.   Earn more, do less!   She’s a freaking power house and I’m very grateful I get to call her my friend because you’ll know I don’t recommend people freely.  Largely due to the sales tactics and mass of ‘missed out’ information that usually comes with courses online and leads to an 11% completion rate and money down the toilet...i’m not here for that peeps!   It’s going to be a genuine game changer I promise you.   OMG so exciting.  If you want to be in the know sooner then slide into my DMs and i’ll get you a sneak peak of what’s coming.   So if you’ve been thinking of shifting your business model, stay tuned.  If you’ve been wondering how you can get out of feast or famine stay tuned.   If you want to fall in love with your business again, I've got you covered!   If something is not working for you, change it!    Go back to the previous episode and listen to how to make big decisions but it’s so fundamental to enjoy what you’re doing.    If you’re not, change it!     It doesn’t have to be straight away, you can do it in stages and over a little bit of time, or you can outsource it so YOU don’t have to do it anymore, but it’s important that you do it or you’ll start to resent your business or your clients.   The same thing goes for if you’ve just completely fallen out of love with what you do.     Nobody ever said you have to keep doing it.  If something else is calling you...that’s OK!   I know we like to tell ourselves stories of things having to be a certain way but that’s our own limitations we’re putting on ourselves.   You can’t do this or you can’t do that.   Who says?!   We’re the ones in control.   It may take a little time to work things out but it can be such a positive thing to do.   When you’ve fallen out of love with a product, service or what you do entirely it can feel like it’s slowly eating away at our soul. Blurgh!   It’s not a nice place to be.  It’s like that constant state of anxiety is just niggling away in the background all the time.   We’re always operating from a low level of fight or flight.  Our defence mode is up.  It takes a lot of energy.   The thoughts are whirling round in our noggins taking up a huge amount of headspace that makes everything feel like we’re pushing water uphill.   It’s not meant to feel like that and it doesn’t have to.   Take back that control and know that you get to change whatever you want, whenever you want (according to contract terms of course ha!)   Take the brave move and let the weight lift from your shoulders if you’re feeling this right now.   But if you’re in the stage of worrying about picking a niche and/or ideal client. Launching products or anything along those lines.     You get to change your mind if it doesn’t sit right in the future.  You are not ‘stuck’ with something.   You only work these things out by doing.     Trying.     Being honest with yourself.   The more you are, the more exciting things come your way and the more you can love and actually feel aligned to what you do.    And that’s what it’s about right? About Janine Finney: I've been married for 28 years, have two daughters, two son's in law, and five grandchildren, that I ADORE. I used to be "the biggest skeptic on the planet about Network Marketing" and am now the profession’s greatest advocate. It is my absolute passion to bring clarity to this "best-kept secret" way to earn an income. The journey of my daughter and I having strongly opposing views about this business, lead us to write two books about NMing. "The Flip Flop CEO" is a sassy, girlfriend to girlfriend style book that was written for smart, savvy professional women who would probably never consider Network Marketing because of their "perception" of what it's about. "Does the Shoe Fit?" is the sequel to our first book and helps bridge the gap in understanding between the two different worlds of traditional 9-to-5s and Network Marketing. In this episode, Jennie and Janine discuss:Are you using or abusing your network? Being sincere and not desperate to make sales.Growing together, with a family aspect, through network marketing.Changing the negative perception surrounding network marketing while building respect.Setting up and having the right expectations going into your business  Key Takeaways:Be sure to make the point that you care about people and that’s why you are trying to involve them in your business. It’s not just about sales. Be upfront and open with people. You don’t start off on the right foot by introducing them to NM with deception. Get a person to commit to read the book for 30 minutes for their honest opinion. Being ok with and realizing that you have to be in the right place, with the right product, at the right time. Your product and time aren’t a perfect fit for everyone."We need to come together and help raise awareness at what a great business opportunity this is." —  Janine Finney HOW TO USE “The Flip Flop CEO” & “Does the Shoe Fit?” TO TALK to OTHERS about YOUR BUSINESSSuggested verbiage to “Set Up” giving the book to someoneMost important:  Be sincere and intentionalThe way you “set up the request” is critical.Don’t just give them a book and expect them to read it!!!Ask them to read the first 3 chapters (FFCEO) or Welcome (DTSF?),  mention that it will take 30 minutes!Get an agreed upon time commitment. (1 to 2 weeks, or wait to give it to them)Always set up a Follow Up meeting!Follow these 3 Steps!!!Step ONEExplain why you are giving them the book, and want them to read the first 3 Chapters. (Verbiage examples are below)Step TWOGive them instructions…read the first three chapters, and ask THEM, “What is the best method to “read the book” for you…Kindle, Audible or hard copy”?  Always, set up an agreed upon follow up meeting (or call).Step THREELet them know that you really appreciate their HONEST feedback…positive or negative. You truly appreciate them doing this for you.________________________________________________________WHO is “The Flip Flop CEO” for?Verbiage ExamplesA Brand New Consultant – To avoid potential alienation from family & friends:“I’ve found out about something that I’m really excited about, and I’d like to get your take on it.  I have this book that explains it better than I can….and I’d really appreciate your HONEST feedback!”Support Group – Family & Friends “Having your support really matters to me, and it feels like what I believe I’m doing and what you think I’m doing are not the same thing.  It would mean a lot to me if you would do me a huge favor.  Would you read something that will take 30 minutes, and then give me your honest feedback?”“One of the things that I appreciate about our relationship is that you sometimes see things from a different perspective than me.  I really love hearing your thoughts on things.  There’s something I’d appreciate getting your take on.  Would you do me a huge favor…it will take 30 minutes…I have a book that is a super quick read, so if you could, I’d like you to read the first 3 chapters…it explains it better than I probably can…would you do that for me?”Those who have an inaccurate perception of Network Marketing!“You’re my favorite person to run ideas by, and to talk to about things…I’ve wanted to talk to you about what I’m doing (or this business I’ve started) and get your perspective. The things I’d like to talk about are explained really well in this little book that I read.  I’d like to ask you a huge favor.  Would you be willing to spend 30 minutes reading the first 3 chapters of a book, and then give me your honest feedback?”  Co-workers/ Friends you think might be interested if they understood.“I’m doing (or I have been doing) something that I’m super excited about.  I would love to get your take on it.  The easiest way for me to explain it is to give you this little book that made sense to me.  Would you do me a huge favor? It’s a super quick read….it’ll will take maybe 30 minutes. Will you do that; I’d love to know what you think.  And if it doesn’t sound interesting, no worries…but I just keep thinking this just might be a way for you to have________.”People you admire and trust – Referrals“I’ve always admired and respected you, so much.  I would love to get your HONEST feedback on something that I’m excited about.  It makes so much sense to me but I want to make sure I’m not missing something.  Would you do this for me?  I have this book that explains it better than I can…it’ll take 30 minutes to read the first 3 chapters…would you do that.  I’d so appreciate hearing your take on it.”Someone on your “Chicken List”  - Referrals“I know you’re very happy with what you’re doing, but you are exactly the type of person I would love to have as a business partner.  I’m wondering if you’d be willing to read the first 3 chapters of this book, so you’ll understand the basics of what the business is about, and maybe you’ll think of someone you know who might be interested in learning about this.” Someone you don’t  know well but think they’d be great“We don’t even know each other, so forgive me if this seems strange….but I’m doing something that I’m super excited about, and seem like the type of person I’ve seen do really well at this.  I have no idea if you’d even be interested, but if you’re open to it, I’d really like you to read something that spoke to me, and see if it does to you, as well.  You may not be the least bit interested, which is absolutely okay…but I’d love to get you take on it, regardless.  Would you read the first 3 chapters of a book…it will take 30 minutes.  And it’ll either make sense to you or it won’t…would you be open to doing that?” “Does the Shoe Fit?” Who is this book for?Potential Business Partner - Someone who thinks they’ve “tried Network Marketing and it’s not for them”. “Everyone needs a coach.” These are the words Bill Gates chose to open one of his Ted Talks I recently listened to. I couldn’t agree more with this statement. The truth is that we all need people in our lives who give us feedback. That’s how we improve and become better human beings so that we can show up as our best authentic selves. Eric (former CEO of Google) shared how this has been one of the best pieces of advice he has received (in terms of getting a coach) and how it served Google very well. Every famous athlete, every famous performer and every successful entrepreneur has somebody who’s a coach. Someone who can watch what they’re doing and say ‘is that what you really meant’, ‘is that what you really want’, they can give them perspective. The one thing that people are never good at is seeing themselves as others see them. The one thing that people are never good at is seeing their own blind spots and a coach really helps with that. I have coached and supported and guided women from coming off medication (they had been on for 20+ years), to overcoming their worst fears, to doubling their salary, to 10X their business, to starting their own business, to leaving jobs, to moving interstate, to getting crazy pay-rises, to receiving their dream job, to writing their first book, to publishing their first book, to creating a baby, to getting married and I’ve coached women through a lot of endings and navigating very painful divorces and marriage breakdowns and navigating chronic illness and major transition and crisis . I’ve seen it all but do you know what I ADORE the most? Supporting women through the impossible. An impossible goal (one they’ve been trying to do alone for years, even decades). I love to witness the delight on their face when they tick this off only after a matter of weeks or months of our work together!

Hey everyone, Got a really nice change of pace here for you. It is definitely not the jams. Today, we're dealing with some heavier lyrical content, which is part of what took me a little longer to actually sit down and record it. Some of it is downright difficult material so I didn't have the same excitement to talk about it as I often do. That said, there's some powerful stuff here. AUSTIN ANGELS Founder and CEO Susan Ramirez is so passionate about the children in the foster care system. She started out just volunteering and loving on kids in the system and that transitioned to an organization that has now been nationally recognized. Austin Angels partners with families that are fostering, they are intentionally engaging in relationships with kiddos and family to show love and support. This is key because fostering a child can be so isolating and being a foster child is SO difficult. So imagine these kids who have been removed from their lives now in a new place but being loved on, supported, encouraged and given monthly gifts. As an adoptive mom and a friend to many foster mommas I ADORE this program! Susan and I met in the spring at the RISE conference put on my Rachel Hollis. When Susan and I first started talking I felt like we just clicked and I was BEYOND THRILLED when she agreed to be on the podcast. I love that Susan followed her calling, I love that she is setting HUGE goals..Like a Austin Angels chapter in ever major City. I love big dreams and goals like that, and I do not believe it is too far fetched! When I asked Susan her best tips for being a friend she gave some great advice: Praying for friends, texting, carving out intentional time with friends so we can be support and love on our friends If you feel led to be make a Angel Ambassadors monthly giving commitment follow through! Don't let today pass you by!! OR if you feel led to start a chapter GOOO!! I am cheering you on friend!! I just loved todays conversation. Susan is following the Lords leading and I am SO excited to see how He grows this work! Links/ Recommendations Here is the list of leaders Susan mentioned that she looks up to! After 'some stuff' (guns, poising, vote stacking...) he left the States and returned to Pune where he continued to guide people in meditation and Tantric teachings. One of the things I ADORE about OSHO's teachings is his belief about abundance. In fact, the Pune ashram is intentionally called a 'meditation resort' because " it emphasizes Osho's insistence on abundance, both inner and outer. The complete opposite of the traditional glorification of poverty and renunciation associated with “ashrams.”"Interesting, no?So this week I'm going to be unpacking more of my experience at the 'resort', what learnings I had personally and how I think some of these teachings can help you in your Yoga biz.

If you’re anything like me, you already have crystals scattered all over your living space. You'll also know how hard it is to keep things from getting cluttered. Here's some of my favorite pieces of crystal decor that add a sacred touch while still looking tidy...   For this week’s post, I’ve pulled together some of my favorite crystal home decor elements so that you can have your cake and eat it too (and by that I mean creating an elegant living space and incorporating some amazing crystal vibes all at the same time!). Here are my top 5 favorite crystal decor items:   #5: Selenite Tealight Holder by The Sacred Spirit  Although these are pretty commonplace at most new age shops now, I’ll never get over the beauty and simplicity of these elegant Selenite candle holders.  Made in Morocco, the Selenite is carved into these gorgeous holders that become illuminated when you add a small candle.  To avoid getting your crystal waxy, try adding a battery-operated tealight.  Then, just sit back and enjoy the soft glow of candlelight and relaxing mood created by these little treasures!   #4: Mineral Photo Display by Emma Chapman Need to find a way to sneak a few crystals into your decor without it looking cluttered or too “woo-woo”?  These cute photo holders are the perfect way to do just that!  You could try using a group of all one type of stone to match your color theme in a give room, or mix it up a bit and try crystals of all shapes, sizes, and colors for a pretty display with BIG impact (I’m talking aesthetically AND energetically!).   #3: Crystal Garden Terrarium by The Crystal Jypsy If you know me well, you know I LOVE to garden.  And the only thing (in my mind at least) that could come anywhere close to home-grown produce would be a crystal garden.  This one totally takes the cake - it’s gorgeous and well...downright magical.  I love how the crystals are nestled into the soft moss and how the little flowers pick up on the bright, colorful gems.  This one’s a keeper for sure (and the best part is...you don’t have to remember to water it!).  This type of little terrarium is sure to make a statement anywhere in your home.  This particular terrarium has been sold, however the creator has a few more available for sale on Etsy (or this would make a SUPER fun DIY project for us creative types!).   #2: Watercolor Sacred Grid by Brigid Sacred Circle I have one of these in my home and I ADORE it!  The simplicity and fantastic energy of the Seed of Life shape coupled with the mystery of the starry galaxy makes this an absolute treasure.  If you’re a crystal grid fanatic like me, this one is a CAN’T MISS.  Plus...it’s less than $4 and you get it instantly when you purchase it (ready to print and frame or use for grid making!).   #1: Crystal Wall Murals by Anna Fell Oh My God! Oh My God! Oh My God! Oh My God! Oh My God! Okay, now that I got that out of my system… Seriously...how cool is this?!?!?! I love the idea of being surrounded by these HUGE crystal photos, feeling like you’re in your very own crystal cave.  I haven’t ordered yet, but I think my home office is in serious need of a makeover. Plus, there are several styles to choose from so you can get just the look you want. What could be better? Well that’s all for the round-up...   I hope you’ve enjoyed these snazzy crystal decor Items.  And who knows… maybe you’ve even started thinking about ways to incorporate a few into your sacred space.  If you want to keep up to date on all of the fun crystal-themed things I discover, be sure to follow my Crystal Stuff board over on Pinterest. So which one are you dying to add to your home?  Do you have your own favorite Crystal decor item you’d like to share?  Tell us about it in the comments below. Did you enjoy this post? We reminisce over the classic dances of the 50's and 60's - The Twist and the Loco-Motion.  After the break discuss the validity of the Disco dance moves seen the world around.  Moves like the Bump, the Electric Slide, The Hustle...and even the Y.M.C.A! We end things on a modern note, and talk about the "Watch Me Whip/Nae Nae," made famous by Silento. Mailtime: Jessica Persinger from Salisbury North Carolina wrote in to fadtabulous@rogueintel.com.  She said: Love the show...No, I ADORE the show!  Can you do a show about store’s of our childhood that aren’t around today?  Like Montgomery Wards, etc.  That would be EPIC!!! Hi there everyone! This months podcast is a guided relaxation meditation.  I ADORE this meditation and is one that I have adapted from several meditations that I love.  It is super easy and doesn't require a lot of effort, except just staying with me. It is particularly easy to use before, during or after doing exposure for OCD or other anxiety disorders.  I also encourage this when practicing mindful eating or intuitive eating.  It is a great way to direct your attention back to your body and into the moment. Try it and let me know what you think. And Happy Belated Thanksgiving! Warmly, Kimberley

Welcome! Today’s guest is Cherie Hausler, a freelance food writer, stylist and restaurant owner. She operates from Sydney to Bangkok to the Barossa Valley in South Australia. She lives her life in the fresh country air and is dedicated to experiencing good food in its entirety. Cherie believes that there are few things in life that can’t be helped with a fabulous cup of tea! Visit www.scullerymade.org to learn about her unique teas. Cherie shares the following about her life: The decision whether to have or not have a child is the biggest and most emotional topic for a woman. Cherie has made the choice to not have a child as a result of much “deep thinking” and consideration. People assume if you don’t have children that you don’t like children. Cherie says, “I ADORE children!” Cherie was adopted, and has met her birth mother. Cherie’s parents adopted two children, and then had a biological son who passed away at 6 months. They lost another son to premature birth and then proceeded to adopt Cherie. Cherie has experienced the supernatural love of a mother. “A mother’s love is an unconditional love not restricted to biology or species.” Many women without children are caring, nurturing, and mothering. Cherie has felt some pressure from others to have a child, and even worked as a nanny for 9 years. She has loved and looked after many kids. Cherie has learned that there are over 45,000 children in Australia in foster care due to the breaking down of the family unit. Cherie is also sensitive to the issues about our planet and our natural resources being depleted. She looks at the bleak lives being lived around the world and has decided to put her love and care into the lives that already exist in the world. Consider how many disposable nappies (diapers) are sent to landfills around the world! Having a child is a much bigger issue that “just having a child!” The creative force that all of us feel can be manifested in other ways besides creating a child. Sometimes the creative urge that women mistake for the desire for a child is the desire to create something else! An idea to consider..... Find out more about Cherie at www.scullerymade.org I do hope you enjoy this episode. Please subscribe at michellemariemcgrath.com and share with a woman who would benefit from this wisdom. Ep 81: 85 min Level 2 Yoga Class- Immerse Your Value into The Heart and HOLD!

A powerful Level 2 yoga class that builds lots of internal strength and stamina I know that if I asked you who or what you hold valuable and dear you could tell me without much thought. I'm sure that you've thought about how much your family, your homes, your friends, your culture, etc. means to you. I'm sure that now that I've brought your attention to this, you have a clear idea in your head and feel pretty strong about where you place your value. The thing is, that we think about this too much. I mean that we keep that which we value in our thinking mind. We intellectuallize much more than we internalize it, within our hearts. There is a level of detachment that comes with it. Yes, we love our family. Yes, we love our friends. Yes, we value our home. Here's the question: Do your actions, from day to day, from moment to moment honor and abide by that higher intention? If we could graph our daily activity, and our daily thoughts, what truly takes up the majority of our days? What would it show? I know that for me, my graph would show huge interaction with my cellphone and my ipod. It would also show me constantly checking my email, FB, Twitter, and stats. (Note the word checking, there is no actual engagement involved.) And these are my physical behaviours! I am also guilty of being with my daughter and having my mind full of everything BUT my daughter. I think more about podcasts, blog posts and creating content on a daily basis than I think about my breath, my body and growing my relationship with those that I have said I hold valuable. There are countless opportunities to deepen relationships. There is enough time. I know that I tend to leak my energy in places, thoughts and actions that in no way deserve it. Unconsciously, through my thoughts and actions I am serving and cultivating less than optimal relationships. The level of commitment and discipline required to sustain an optimal level of engagement and relationship in our lives is great. It requires that we choose, and choose again, always refining and clarifying moment to moment. We must sustain the focus throughout our days, slowly building a strong internal practice, that lets us be at once soft and steady. As I became aware of this for myself, I had to share this. I know that I am not alone. My desire is to place what I value in my heart, not in my head. My desire is to engage and hold the sacred where it's meant to be. How about you? Do you observe your behaviors and thoughts serving and cultivating less than optimal relationships? In what ways to do abide by the Highest? Start By Breathing FYI! There's a video towards the end of the post to supplement this episode :) And speaking of the video...Thank you my dear and lovely sponsors Prancing Leopard Organics! The clothesthat I'm wearing in the video are from them and I ADORE them :D Listen to the intro to this episode to get your coupon code for 15% off your purchase!
