Send us a textWhen six friends sit down with mics, no topic is off-limits. This freewheeling conversation begins with a sports fan's observations about high school girls' basketball, where every possession seems to be a fast break despite the questionable fundamentals. The group analyzes coaching strategies and ball control before pivoting to one of the week's hottest sports stories: LeBron James confronting ESPN's Stephen A. Smith courtside. The LeBron discussion evolves into a passionate debate about basketball legacies, with one host boldly declaring James the greatest of all time for his ability to elevate not just himself from humble beginnings but also position his son Bronny for NBA success. "He got in the league fatherless. He got his kids in the league," argues one host, while others question whether nepotism should factor into GOAT conversations. When the conversation shifts to music, one host's search for R. Kelly's "Bump and Grind" video leads to a surprising discovery about content availability in the streaming era and an even more unexpected finding—a country line dance version of the R&B hit. This sparks a nostalgic journey through dance crazes of decades past, from the Electric Slide to the Roger Rabbit, with each host championing their personal favorites and demonstrating impressive knowledge of dance history. The group's cinematic analysis of movie remakes and sequels reveals strong opinions about the appropriate timing for revisiting beloved franchises. While some argue that classics should remain untouched, others appreciate how nostalgia-driven revivals can succeed when handled with care. This naturally flows into the podcast's most animated segment—a deep dive into childhood cartoons, particularly Looney Tunes characters like Foghorn Leghorn and Marvin the Martian, acknowledging both their formative influence and their problematic elements through today's lens. The conversation wraps with hosts sharing their strangest childhood habits and experiences, creating an intimate glimpse into their personalities beyond the microphone. From burying toys in grandparents' backyards to creating elaborate "salads" for worms, these personal anecdotes remind listeners that shared childhood experiences often transcend generational differences—and sometimes reveal who might have had early serial killer tendencies. Thanks for listening to the Nobody's Talking Podcast. On this episode, host Oren Cass takes the guest seat to discuss his recent Compass Point essay about electric vehicles, “The Electric Slide.” Cass and managing editor Drew Holden discuss America's electric vehicle policy and its limitations, the threat of China dominating the global market, and why conservatives—long critical of the technology—should embrace an alternate approach that could help restore American manufacturing, regardless of EV adoption. For more, read Oren's Compass Point essay, “The Electric Slide.”

For 60 years, Marcia Griffiths has left an indelible mark on Jamaican music, often being called the Queen of Reggae. She sat down with Tom to talk about her incredible career in music, being one of Bob Marley's I-Threes, and how she's feeling about being honoured with the Order of Jamaica.
We open our bonus show this week by talking about Nikola Jokic dancing at Serbian night club and whether or not we like to dance at a club – erupting a HUGE debate about the Electric Slide! Plus Gorilla Nems wrote some music for the New York Knicks, as the team has used “Bing Bong” all season long after hitting threes, and he is NOT happy with the Knicks for hooking him up with decent seats for the games. And does the USC fan who bought tickets behind the new press box with only 2% field view have the worst seats ever in college football? We all discuss the worst seats we’ve ever had, and a huge debate about who’s the better scorer, Kevin Durant or Carmello Anthony. Aliens in Peru also fire up a conversation about what athletes are so good we believe they’re aliens, and our favorite seasonal fast food items!

This week we are joined by a legend, an empress, an icon of reggae. In an industry dominated by male voices, Marcia Griffiths is about to enter her 60th year as a trailblazing vocalist, songwriter, performer and collaborator. You may know her from early hits like “I Feel Like Jumping,” or her work with the great Bob Andy. She also collaborated with another important Bob — as a Bob Marley backup singer with the I Threes trio. And if you've ever done the Electric Slide, you have Marcia Griffiths to thank for that, too. Her 1983 hit “Electric Boogie” gave birth to the global dance phenomenon which simply refuses to quit. And, thankfully for us, Marcia Griffiths herself refuses to quit. She will be performing as part of the BRIC Celebrate Brooklyn! summer concert series in Prospect Park on July 15. Spoiler Alert: If you like awkward, you're going to LOVE this episode. It's awkward, it's cringy, and it's OH-SO-GOOD. Today, we're taking the pressure off of you, and placing it onto your friends and family as we talk about how to be the PERFECT wedding guest. Tell your friends and family this episode is a MUST LISTEN, as we prepare you and your guests for wedding day success. Have you heard the term “guest-zilla?” We're making it a thing so listen in to see if you might possibly be a guest-zilla. As a professional photographer and wedding planner, we've seen the best (and worst) in guests, and have tons to say on what you can do to set your guests up for your wedding day!Support us: patreon.com/unveilingparadiseHow to be the PERFECT Wedding Guest (and what you can to to prepare) Set your guests up for wedding day success, no one wants guest-zillas on their big day!RSVP on time - don't show up if you didn't RSVP. Even if it's assumed you're coming (wedding party, family, BFFs) you need to RSVP. On the other hand, if you RSVP, show up! Set your guests up for success - if they don't RSVP, follow up! Don't assume they're not coming.Come as you are - follow the invitation and only bring who's invited. If an invite is for you plus your spouse, don't assume you can swap your spouse with your BFF. Set your guests up for success - be clear on the invite (how many seats do you have reserved, and for who).Follow the dress code. You may assume the dress code is more casual in a tropical destination, but always double check before arriving in an Aloha shirt, khaki pants and flip flops. Set your guests up for success - put your dress code everywhere (on your invitations, on your website, and remind people whenever you see them). Follow the rules that the couple sets for their wedding. Unplugged ceremony? Keep your phone in your pocket. Do not play list? Don't pressure the DJ to play those forbidden songs, no matter how much you love the Electric Slide! Set your guests up for success - make sure your guests are constantly reminded about your wedding day rules.Be on time, or better yet, be early! Bring a gift, or don't. Follow whatever they ask for - venmo, cash only, or no gifts.Respect the seating chart and don't move seats. The couple took time to create the seating chart and moving might affect your meal, and the guests around you. Be engaged! Have a good attitude and sign the guest book, use those disposable cameras, write on the jenga blocks, or do whatever the couple asks of you. Set your guests up for success - keep things reasonable - don't have so many activities that guests can't do it all. Assign someone to help your guests.Don't give the couple a play by play of everything happening at the wedding - good or bad. Let the couple enjoy their day and trust that their vendors will do the job they were hired for.Have fun, but not too much fun. Don't be the drama - no one wants to deal with a barfing guest-zilla at their wedding. The bottom line is this - the couple took a lot of time to take to create their dream wedding - let's do whatever we can to help them make that happen. During today's conversation on Back Porch Theology we're going to sift back through the rapture and rupture of our first year of podcasting – we can hardly believe this is our 52nd week of BPT! We're going to revisit some really cool theological concepts like orthodoxy, orthopraxy and orthopathy and I will surely mispronounce a multi-syllabic term or two because if you've spent even a short amount of time hanging out on the proverbial porch with us, you know that bloopers are a big part of our repertoire! But there's a biblical method to our happy madness today as well, because in Revelation 12, the evil one is depicted as an angry dragon because our Savior's sword is poking out of his nasty, scaly chest so that lying lizard knows his time is short. Revelation 12 also explains that the devil is defeated by the blood of the Lamb and the word of our testimony. In other words, when we talk about the good things God has done and is doing, we effectively plunge King Jesus' sword deeper into his evil chest! Therefore, Ally and Dr. Howard and I are going to thoroughly enjoy some lizard torture today, because we're gob-smacked by the grace God has lavished on us, as well as the gift of community He's given us with y'all and we can't wait to TEST-TI-FY all about it! So please grab a cup of coffee and your Bible – unless you're driving or doing the Electric Slide with your small group, of course – and come hang out on the porch with us!
