Outriders , created by the studio People Can Fly, tells the story of an elite force of explorers sent as support to investigate a planet that's been designated as a new home for humans. But all isn't as it first appears on the planet, and its tranquility rapidly turns deadly for the Outriders. Inon Zur's stunning soundtrack uses a massive orchestra, synths, and some beautiful solo instruments to keep the focus on the human drama. Inon's soundtrack for Dragon Age is what got the attention of the team at People Can Fly. While they weren't going for that exact sound, they loved Inon's use of the orchestra. After many months of discussions, Inon and the team hit the right sound, and Inon was able to record with a massive orchestra in Budapest. Inon says working on this score was a huge stretch artistically, and led him to experiment with a wide variety of synths, samples, and ways of modifying the accoustic instruments; skills he'll be able to put to good use on future projects. The moving mental health drama Paper Spiders will arrive in theaters on Friday, May 7th. The film stars Lili Taylor as Dawn, a mother to a teenage daughter who is about to leave for college. Just as her daughter is beginning to move away, Dawn begins to exhibit signs of paranoid delusions that centered on their neighbor whom Dawn believes has begun to target and threaten her. This is all in Dawn's head. The story of Paper Spiders, written by Natalie Shampanier, is based on Natalie's own experience with her own mother who went through a similar mental health crisis. Recently, as part of National Mental Health Awareness Month, I spoke with Inon and Natalie Shampanier about Paper Spiders ahead of this Friday's release in theaters and for On-Demand rental.

John Boehner was a small business owner when he first decided to run for elected office after witnessing what he considered the negative effects of “high taxes and red tape” on American entrepreneurs. After two decades in office, Boehner became Speaker of the House in 2011 and immediately found himself in opposition to President Obama’s vision for America. In On the House, Boehner reflects on his time in Congress, recounting the lessons of success and failure he has learned from leaders – from Gerald Ford to Joe Biden – he has encountered. John Boehner is the former Speaker of the House of Representatives (2011-2015). From 1991 until his resignation in October 2015, Boehner represented the Eighth Congressional District of Ohio as a Republican. In Congress, Boehner’s stated goals were a “smaller, less costly, and more accountable federal government.” Since 2016, he has been a senior strategic advisor at Squire Patton Boggs LLP. Whether framed as complaints about cancel culture or as increased awareness of prejudice, stories about offensive language are common in our daily news cycle. In On the Offensive: Prejudice in Language Past and Present (Cambridge UP, 2020), linguist Karen Stollznow explores the history of language that offends, including talk about race and ethnicity, gender, religion, mental health, physical appearance, and age. Her book tells the origin story of how terms come to have the power to offend. It also investigates the euphemism treadmill, the phenomenon of offensive terms being replaced with new, neutral terms which eventually become offensive as well. Despite the large number of terms the book deals with, she argues that it isn’t impossible to keep track of what’s offensive and what isn’t. By explaining the background to our language and its implications for the lived experiences of human beings, Stollznow hopes the book will enable its readers to examine their own language and its power—for harm and for good. Malcolm Keating is Assistant Professor of Philosophy at Yale-NUS College. His research focuses on Sanskrit philosophy of language and epistemology. By the end of the eighteenth century, politicians in America and France were invoking the natural rights of man to wrest sovereignty away from kings and lay down universal basic entitlements. Exactly how and when did “rights” come to justify such measures? In On the Spirit of Rights (University of Chicago Press, 2018), Dan Edelstein answers this question by examining the complex genealogy of the rights regimes enshrined in the American and French Revolutions. With a lively attention to detail, he surveys a sprawling series of debates among rulers, jurists, philosophers, political reformers, writers, and others, who were all engaged in laying the groundwork for our contemporary systems of constitutional governance. Every seemingly new claim about rights turns out to be a variation on a theme, as late medieval notions were subtly repeated and refined to yield the talk of “rights” we recognize today. From the Wars of Religion to the French Declaration of the Rights of Man and of the Citizen to the 1948 Universal Declaration of Human Rights, On the Spirit of Rights is a sweeping tour through centuries of European intellectual history and an essential guide to our ways of thinking about human rights today. Dan Edelstein is the William H. Bonsall Professor of French and (by courtesy) professor of history at Stanford University. He is the author of The Terror of Natural Right, The Enlightenment, and On the Spirit of Rights, all published by the University of Chicago Press. Jenny Wheeler: Hello there, Lucinda and welcome to the show. It's great to have you with us. Romance writer Lucinda Brant Lucinda Brant: Thanks, Jenny. It's very nice of you to invite me on your show. I think this is probably only the second podcast I've ever done. Jenny Wheeler: That's wonderful. Thank you. There will probably be many more in the future. Was there a Once Upon a Time moment when you decided that you had to write fiction as distinct from any other writing you might have been doing, and if so, was there a catalyst for it? Lucinda Brant Romance author Lucinda Brant:  I don't know if there was a Once Upon a Time moment. I've always liked creative writing. I've enjoyed it since school. Probably around seven or eight, I remember thinking, I really enjoy writing stories. Then it would have been high school when I started writing for myself. I thought I'd try my hand at fiction. We had a creative writing class in English but it wasn't enough for me, so I started writing stories and I would take them into class because I didn't like Maths very much and I'd pass them around. I realized I had an audience because they'd say, when are we getting the next chapter? Creative writing? Or Maths? Jenny Wheeler: You passed them around in Maths? Lucinda Brant: I did. I didn't do much Maths.  Jenny Wheeler: You're another one like me, I used to read something under the desk while the teacher was talking. I was bored with what they were saying but I couldn't leave a book alone. Lucinda Brant: That sounds about right. That's how I got into writing fiction and then I put it down when I went to university because writing essays is a whole different kettle of fish as far as writing goes. I picked it up again once I started work after I'd finished university. Jenny Wheeler: You've made your name with 18th century historical romance, and that in itself is interesting because Regency is the hot period for romance and there are millions of Regency books. What made you settle on the Georgians, the 1700's, and what attracted you to them? Falling in love with the 18th century Lucinda Brant: I've always loved history since primary school.

In On the Plain of Snakes, Theroux documents his drive along the US-Mexican frontier, down into the heart of Mexico City, and throughout Oaxaca where he encounters migrants, corrupt cops, and mezcal. There is a reason why Paul Theroux is considered one of the greatest living travel writers. His observations on the road are nuanced, informed, and timely. Setting out to document the entire history of the Bigfoot phenomenon as well as the ongoing search to find the creature, the six episodes of "On the Trail of Bigfoot" promises to take audiences deeper into the subject than they've ever gone before. From mysterious reports of ape-like beasts in newspapers in the late 1800s to modern day encounters with the legendary creature, accounts of run-ins with an unknown being in the forests of North America have existed for centuries. But what does the search entail and who are the people looking for the monster? In "On the Trail of Bigfoot", Seth Breedlove travels from coast to coast, visiting fourteen states, and interviewing two dozen individuals who take part in the hunt for what most people regard as a myth. Along the way, evidence is offered in the form of footprint casts, hair samples, strange recorded sounds and even video of what is purported to be a Bigfoot. From the forests of the Pacific Northwest to the hills of Pennsylvania, to deep southern swamps and the Ouachita Mountains of Oklahoma, Breedlove joins investigators seeking to prove the creature's existence.   Watch on Vimeo: https://vimeo.com/ondemand/onthetrailofbigfoot/325424970   Watch on Amazon: Part 1 https://smile.amazon.com/gp/video/detail/B07P729TX5/ref=cm_sw_tw_r_pv_wb_1rxh4rh12SIHn  Part 2 https://smile.amazon.com/gp/video/detail/B07PGBGZM3/ref=cm_sw_tw_r_pv_wb_j8l2WtwEaqvs9    Order your DVD: https://www.smalltownmonsters.com/shop/onthetrailofbigfoot    Read Our Review: https://ehpodcasts.com/2019/05/10/on-the-trail-of-bigfoot-documentary-review -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- MUSIC CREATED BY http://whitebataudio.com KEEP UP WITH THE PODCAST http://ehpodcasts.com http://paypal.me/ehpodcasts   SOCIAL MEDIA http://facebook.com/EHPodcasts  http://twitter.com/EHPodcasts  http://instagram.com/EHPodcasts  http://pinterest.com/EHPodcasts  LISTEN TO US ON  http://bit.ly/EHPodbean  http://bit.ly/EHPodcastYT  http://bit.ly/iTunesEHP  http://bit.ly/EHPAlexa  http://bit.ly/EHPSpotify  http://bit.ly/EHPStitcher  http://bit.ly/EHGooglePlay  http://bit.ly/EHPTuneIn

Here on the Two Nice Jewish Boys podcast, we’ve recorded episodes with authors, we’ve done an episode about the discovery of THC, we did one about the navigation system within bats and one about the fraudulent binary options industry. But one subject seems to be, without intent, a recurring theme. It’s not hard to guess which one, either. I suppose it just goes to show, how ingrained it is in the Israeli psyche. That is, the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. And it seems that every episode we do, every guest we bring to speak about this topic, has another view point. As the saying goes, Two Jews, three opinions. But regardless, however many opinions there might be, one thing seems constant. At least, so far. The conflict doesn’t seem to be going anywhere. But is there anything we can do in the meantime? Some people think that separation, walls, borders and retreats are the solution to reach peace in the area. But for others, the way to go about it, is by building - not settlements - but human relations. At least that was the notion that led Inon Dan Kehati to innovate and seek for new ways to approach the problem. Instead of looking at the macro level, he chose to look at the micro, and to build connections between people, in the hope that in the future, peace will pursue. And that’s exactly what he’s doing with his non for profit organization, The Home. We’re really excited to have Inon with us on the podcast today.

Chasing Sly and the Family Stone Documentary for 12 years with Michael RubenstoneSPECIAL SUNDANCE EDITION of the Indie Film Hustle PodcastWe all hear stories of filmmakers working on films for years and years. Well, I don't know about you but I've never met one until now. In my journeys at Sundance and Slamdance I met one of these crazy and passionate filmmakers, his name is Michael Rubenstone. Michael the director of the documentary On the Sly: In Search of the Family Stone, which premiered at this year's Slamdance Film Festival. When I heard his crazy story I had to have him on the show. Michael has been chasing Sly from Sly and the Family Stones for over 12 years. The stories he told us in the interview were insane. Talk about passion. We can all learn something about dedication, persistence and just plain nuts.Check out some teasers of the film below:Here's a bit about the film: Director and super-fan Michael Rubenstone sets out in search of long-time reclusive funk legend, Sly Stone. Along the way, he meets with some success but finds countless more failures in trying to capture a man who refuses to be contained.Have you ever sat in your parked car for several minutes, just to hear the end of a song on the radio or savor the feeling that such a song gave you? In On the Sly, a music fan’s archival fervor and optimistic investigation take us beyond a sensationalized or simplified history of Sly and the Family Stone and bring us into a world where it is unthinkable to turn off the radio before the song is through. The elusiveness of frontman Sly prompts both filmmaker and viewer to consider how much we project onto our heroes, and how their continued inaccessibility is, despite our frustration, often vital to continuing the work of discovering ourselves and how we use music and art to bond with one another beyond simply moving our bodies to the beat. - Beth Prouty, Slamdance ProgrammerSit back and enjoy the amazing conversation I and my co-host Teri Gamble had with director Michael Rubenstone. All of these Sundance Series episodes are co-produced by Sebastian Twardosz from Circus Road Films and Media Circus.Right click here to download the MP3Download on iTunes DirectLINKS AND RESOURCES MENTIONED IN THIS EPISODEOn the Sly: In Search of the Family Stone - IMDBTeri GambleSebastian TwardoszCircus Road FilmsMedia Circus PRSPONSORSDirecting Actors Master Course – (30% OFF – CODE: HUSTLE)Get Your Film on Netflix, Hulu & Amazon & Keep 100% off the Revenue - DistribberHollywood Camera Work: Mastering High-End Blocking and Staging (30% OFF – CODE: HUSTLE)Aaron Sorkin Screenwriting Master ClassHans Zimmer Film Scoring MasterClass

“On the Edge of Freedom” In “On the Edge of Freedom,” David Smith breaks new ground by illuminating the unique development of antislavery sentiment in south central Pennsylvania—a border region of a border state with a complicated history of slavery, antislavery activism, and unequal freedom. During the antebellum decades every single fugitive slave escaping by land east of the Appalachian Mountains had to pass through the region, where they faced both significant opportunities and substantial risks. While the hundreds of fugitives traveling through south central Pennsylvania (defined as Adams, Franklin, and Cumberland counties) during this period were aided by an effective Underground Railroad, they also faced slave catchers and informers. “Underground” work such as helping fugitive slaves appealed to border antislavery activists who shied away from agitating for immediate abolition in a region with social, economic, and kinship ties to the South. And, as early antislavery protests met fierce resistance, area activists adopted a less confrontational approach, employing the more traditional political tools of the petition and legal action. Smith traces the victories of antislavery activists in south central Pennsylvania, including the achievement of a strong personal liberty law and the aggressive prosecution of kidnappers who seized innocent African Americans as fugitives. He also documents how their success provoked Southern retaliation and the passage of a strengthened Fugitive Slave Law in 1850. The Civil War then intensified the debate over fugitive slaves, as hundreds of escaping slaves, called “contrabands,” sought safety in the area, and scores were recaptured by the Confederate army during the Gettysburg campaign. David Smith received his Ph.D. in American History from the Pennsylvania State University in 2006. A social historian of the Civil War period, his research centers on the intersection of war, societal conflict, and race. He currently works as a consultant to the Department of Defense.

This is the full Rift soundtrack I got with the Collector's Edition. All tracks credited to Inon Zur. I wanted to share this since I got it and thought of doing a torrent file of them all but thought this would be easier and more legal way of sharing. Enjoy the music :).
