Consumer caution remains high, with "English" shoppers buying essentials and avoiding expensive electronics. Local diners show less vibrancy, suggesting the economy has lost "some spring in its step." High-end real estate sales have also notably "dried up." 930-945 HEADLINE: Trump's War on Cartels and Venezuela Intervention; Supreme Court Takes Up Federal Reserve Governor Firing Case GUEST NAME: Richard Epstein SUMMARY: John Batchelor speaks with Richard Epstein about President Trump's "war" against drug cartels and potential Venezuela intervention, which Epstein deems unlawful executive overreach due to congressional inertia. John Whiting, CEO of Bulletproof Entrepreneur and Rodric's own coach, brings a raw, data-driven take on scaling coaching businesses and life itself. From dropping out of college golf to pro sales, to building a company that helps online coaches scale to $50K–$100K/month in profit, John shares how tracking ratios, reverse-engineering results, and asking better questions create competitive advantage. They discuss why most people resist certainty (because it ends the “game”), how to define bigger goals beyond money, and why many entrepreneurs resist their own magic. John explains his charge clearing process for decision-making and the mindset shift that keeps him aligned: “What would I do if I didn't give a f*** what anyone else thought?” If you've ever wanted practical math for success mixed with existential philosophy—and some humor about not sucking—this episode will flip your brain.Timestamps & Topics00:00 – 01:25 Meet John Whiting: Bulletproof Entrepreneur CEO.03:06 – 05:36 Golf → sales → tracking ratios → math as competitive edge.07:03 – 09:37 Why people resist certainty: keeping the game alive.10:38 – 13:31 Beyond money: bigger goals, ripple effects, and fulfillment.15:45 – 17:50 Responsibility to share your magic (and why most resist theirs).21:54 – 24:03 Charge clearing: asking better questions → better beliefs → better results.24:21 – 27:22 Audience Q&A: “What's the one question to ask daily?” John's answer.28:53 – 29:18 Wrap-up: be the god you are; create whatever you want.HighlightsEverything is math: success can be reverse-engineered through ratios. Most people sabotage certainty to keep life “interesting.”If you don't know your bigger “why,” start with what you don't want.Ripple effect: help successful clients go further to maximize impact.Decision clarity = asking the right questions in the right order.Pull Quotes“Everything in the physical universe is math. Let's talk about The Trump Shutdown math problem....
Math improvement plans don't gain traction just by naming priorities—they gain traction when districts commit to going narrow. For one small district, that meant resisting the urge to spread resources across every grade and instead doubling down on a focused goal: supporting grades 3–5 teachers with the consistent use of problem strings to strengthen student fluency. In this episode, we explore the critical leadership decisions that fueled momentum: choosing more and better over new, positioning principals as partners, and building long-term sustainability so the work doesn't disappear if a coach or coordinator leaves.Listeners will:See how a single math priority becomes the filter for PD, PLCs, and walkthroughs.Learn the more → better → new sequence to build momentum without piling on.Hear how measured success came from cultivating “bright spots”—teacher leaders modeling and sharing success with peers.Discover how sustainable supports were layered in by embedding problem strings into PLCs, coaching cycles, and administrator walkthroughs with a co-constructed look-for rubric.Listen now to see exactly how going narrow creates a math flywheel—so your PD shows up in classrooms and your results compound across the year. Not sure what matters most when designing math improvement plans? Tom is a fascinating man. He's shot lasers at the moon and measured their reflection. After studying astrophysics at Cal Tech he taught at UCSD for years. But there came a point where his awareness of the destructiveness of the machine made it impossible to keep making adjustments to its smooth functioning. Unlike many people confronted with that contradiction, Tom walked away, choosing freedom of thought over financial stability and ego gratification. This is the first part of what I hope will be an on-going conversation. Part two is coming next week. You can read Tom's thoughts at his newsletter, called Do the Math. Here's a taste of our conversation. #307. Happy candy corn season! It's officially October in the midwest and we are gearing up for the weather to do its bi-polar thing. Speaking of which, Dillon created an AI game with potential midwest phrases and it's astounding how many of them have to do with changing weather. We're not sure if this is uniquely Midwest, but we're pretty sure a lot of things on this list are spot-on regional gold. After the break we discuss how our kids are getting smarter than we are. Welcome to the new season of the Maths on the Move podcast! We start the season with theoretical physicist David Tong of the University of Cambridge looking at an important milestone in the history of physics: the 100th birthday of quantum mechanics which we celebrate this year. David tells us why a new theory was needed, which of the many strange aspects of quantum mechanics is, in his opinion, the most significant, and that Erwin Schrödinger had a tendency to be grumpy. David also tells us how quantum mechanics links to quantum field theory, the language in which all of modern physics is formulated, and reveals some mysterious connections between very different areas of physics — such as the theory of black holes and fluid mechanics. Join us in a wavy dance from the very small to the very large! You'll hear how UDL-informed structures let students select pathways based on quick self-assessments, how station rotations can blend mini-lessons with targeted practice, and why building a “toolbox” of routines equips teachers to respond to the class they actually have that day. If you're ready to make math feel alive, this conversation offers concrete steps you can try tomorrow. Subscribe, share with a colleague, and tell us: what's one strategy you'll test in your next lesson?

District math improvement plans can't succeed if we try to do everything at once. For meaningful change to happen, leaders need to go narrow. In this episode, we explore why narrowing focus is so difficult for districts and schools, even when everyone knows it's the right move. We unpack the fears leaders face—picking the “wrong” focus, pressure from external demands, or the worry that one shift won't meet everyone's needs. We also dig into why saying “yes” to one math priority means saying “no” to others, and how failing to narrow leads to surface-level adoption without real impact. We highlight what going narrow actually requires:How narrowing your focus unlocks the flywheel effect and avoids the “doom loop” of initiative fatigue. The resources, coaching, and leadership support it actually takes to create meaningful change. How to map backward using the If-Then-How framework so you can be realistic about what your team can accomplish in one year. Why choosing one structural change—like optimizing PLCs for lesson study and curriculum mastery—requires more than a memo; it requires follow-up, facilitation, capacity building, and monitoring. If you've ever felt the tension between wanting to “do it all” and the nagging realization that lasting math improvement requires focus, this episode is for you.Not sure what matters most when designing math improvement plans? The AI trade is reshaping markets and CRE is riding shotgun.A surge of capital into chips and data centers has turned AI into the backbone of U.S. growth — pushing tech spending to dot-com-era highs and doubling data center pipelines. But will it pay off? Alarm bells are ringing that adoption may not match optimism. That could quickly mean swathes of massive data centers sitting vacant.Michael Pearce, deputy chief U.S. economist at Oxford Economics, sees the opposite problem. On this week's episode, he said adoption curves are running much closer to forecasts. His concern: CRE can't keep up.“All the limits are on the supply side,” he said. “On the demand side it feels limitless.”
