The biggest storyline for Ohio State this week isn‘t who the Buckeyes are playing, but where and when they're playing.Ohio State is expected to win big for the second week in a row as it plays another one of the Big Ten's worst teams in Northwestern one week after blowing out Purdue. This week's game offers a layer of excitement that last week's game didn't, however, because it will be played at Wrigley Field, offering a unique backdrop for an Ohio State football game at one of America's most storied sports venues. That said, the biggest talking point of the week among Buckeye fans has been kickoff times after the Big Ten announced Monday that Ohio State's top-five showdown with Indiana next week will be yet another noon game, which means the Buckeyes will play six noon games in a row to conclude their 2024 regular season. Many Buckeye fans want to see Ohio State play in more night games, but OSU doesn't seem overly eager to push back against early afternoon kickoffs. We begin this week's episode of Real Pod Wednesdays by sharing our top takeaways from the Buckeyes' 45-point win over the Boilermakers, then look ahead to this week‘s trip to Wrigley before sharing our thoughts on the noon game debate. We wrap up the show by discussing the latest developments in Ohio State basketball as the men's team races out to a 2-0 start while the women's team (also 2-0) makes two home run additions to its coaching staff in Katie Smith and Jacy Sheldon. The full rundown for this week's show:0:00 We're Excited to Watch Football at Wrigley2:20 Ohio State's 45-0 Win Over Purdue Was the Uneventful Game It Needed Against A Bad Team4:18 Ohio State's Pass Rush Built Momentum As Defense Had Another Dominant Game vs. Purdue7:20 The Jack Experiment Didn't Work vs. Purdue, But That Didn't Make the Experiment A Bad Idea12:51 Ohio State Makes A Long-Awaited Big Play on Special Teams16:50 Other Standouts vs. Purdue: TreVeyon Henderson, Jeremiah Smith, Eddrick Houston, Sonny Styles26:57 Ohio State Could Have A Home-Field Advantage at Unique Venue vs. Subpar Northwestern Team34:22 Will Ohio State Be Quicker to Take Starters Out in Likely Final Opportunity for Backups to Play?38:07 Both of Our Score Predictions Have the Buckeyes Covering Comfortably40:40 We Like Noon Games and Ohio State Does Too, But Fans Miss Big Home Night Games47:02 Why Ohio State Probably Isn't Inclined to Push Back Against So Many Noon Games52:34 Defensive Intensity, 3-Point Shooting Stand Out in First Two OSU Men's Basketball Games57:14 Katie Smith, Jacy Sheldon Are Home Run Hires for Ohio State Women's Basketball1:01:15 OSU Men's Soccer Competes for A Big Ten Title and Sammy Sasso Returns to the Mat

Ohio State University Women's Basketball Coach Kevin McGuff has access to the best workout facilities in the country at OSU. But many days, where does he choose to get his sweat on? At the Dublin Community Recreation Center! That says a lot: not just where he and his family choose to live, go to school and prosper but how he stays grounded and connected to our community as a whole. Coach McGuff actually joined us during what he calls his busiest time of year - the offseason. That's not a typo. You'll hear him tell it, but the basketball season itself is the grind of practices and games. The offseason is EVERYTHING else it takes to run one of the country's premiere women's programs: recruiting, massive travel, roster management, coaching appearances, off-season workouts; the list goes on. Plus, he and his wife, Letitia, have six children! Two are playing college basketball and the other four attend Dublin City Schools. Speaking of which, you have to hear what Coach McGuff says about Dublin Coffman's own, Jacy Sheldon, who was the fifth overall pick in the WNBA draft this year after an outstanding career at Ohio State. Sheldon is also the first Coffman player ever drafted into the WNBA!

Ohio State football got two pieces of exciting news over the past week, but Ohio State's basketball struggles went from bad to worse. We talk extensively about both sports on this week's episode of Real Pod Wednesdays, starting with Ohio State football. While it's a quiet National Signing Day for the Buckeyes in that they are not making any additions to their high school recruiting class of 2023, they made news on Friday when they announced the return of former Buckeye linebacker James Laurinaitis to the program as a defensive graduate assistant. We discuss the impact Laurinaitis could make for the Buckeyes both on the field and on the recruiting trail, then pivot the conversation to discussing the state of Ohio State basketball after a 2-7 month of January. Is this season still salvageable, and will Chris Holtmann be coaching for his job in February and March? We discuss what's gone wrong for those Buckeyes, what needs to happen if they're going to earn their way back into the NCAA Tournament and why we'd still be surprised if Ohio State made a coaching change this year. After learning in the midst of recording this week's episode that Davison Igbinosun had committed to Ohio State, we boomerang back to football to talk about the value of adding the former Ole Miss cornerback. Finally, we spend a few minutes discussing our ranking of Ohio State's top 10 quarterbacks of the 21st century. The full rundown for today's show: 0:14: Today is National Signing Day, but it doesn't feel like it for Ohio State 1:04: Ohio State's 2023 recruiting class is a good class, but a little short on top-end star power 7:26: Hiring James Laurinaitis is a no-brainer that could pay dividends on the field and in recruiting 11:53: It's way too early to call James Laurinaitis the next Brian Hartline, but you can see the upside 14:55: We wouldn't have guessed a month ago that we'd be talking about Ohio State missing the NCAA Tournament, but that's where we are 16:50: Ohio State went from losing close games to losing games soundly, which makes this more than just a slump 20:06: The Buckeyes' laundry list of issues in January included rebounding, ball movement, shooting and defense 23:15: Bruce Thornton, Zed Key and Justice Sueing among Buckeyes whose performance has declined 32:02: Does Ohio State have a talent problem or a coaching problem? Can't pin it on just one 34:43: Is Chris Holtmann coaching for his job right now? We still think he's likely to be back next season 45:24: Ohio State has two winnable games this week against Wisconsin and Michigan, but 1-1 seems more likely than 2-0 48:04: OSU women's basketball had a bad week too, but should soon get the boost it needs from Jacy Sheldon's return 49:54: Landing Davison Igbinosun and Ja'Had Carter is a big boost for Ohio State's secondary 54:31: Ohio State shows it can adapt by being more aggressive in the transfer portal 56:46: How our individual ballots compared to our full-staff ranking of OSU's top 21st-century quarterbacks

The baby-faced assassin currently leads Ohio State with 15.3 PPG to go along with 4 rebounds and 1.4 assists per game. He is also shooting 48.9% from three, which is the second-best mark in the Big Ten. Mock drafts have the 6-foot-6 freshman going anywhere from the 20th pick to the 44th pick in the 2023 NBA Draft. He'll enter the draft without a doubt, but will his likely landing spot be high enough that he'd stay in? These conversations will certainly heat up over the coming months. Following the new position in the rankings, head coach Kevin McGuff and guards Rikki Harris and Madison Greene spoke with the media. Coach McGuff largely dismissed the rankings, since he hasn't been able to watch the other teams around the Buckeyes in the rankings, caring more about what their ranking will be at the end of the season. He also discusses what he's seen change in guard Madison Greene after becoming a bench player and next guard up starter for injured guard Jacy Sheldon. Also, McGuff discusses what he's seen so far around the Big Ten, touting it as the deepest its ever been. He also named a team who's surprised him the most in conference results this season. Harris and Greene interviewed together, taking on questions about the No. 3 ranking, the growth of forward Rebeka Mikulášiková over, mental health and what they've noticed change about coach McGuff in their four years at Ohio State. That and more as the Buckeyes gear up for two games this week. On Thursday, they begin with an early 11:00 a.m. ET start against the University of New Hampshire before returning to Big Ten play on Sunday, when they welcome the Michigan State Spartans to the Schottenstein Center. Throughout the year, Land-Grant Holy Land will be bringing you uncut audio primarily from Ohio State press conferences, but also from individual interview sessions. The Ohio State Buckeyes women's basketball team played their second ranked opponent of the season. Like the first against the then No. 5 Tennessee Volunteers, it was a game where the first half gave no intention of Ohio State winning. Then a second half led to an ending of a double-digit 96-77 dominating win over perennial college basketball power in the Louisville Cardinals. Following the win, guards Jacy Sheldon and Rikki Harris talked about the game, before head coach Kevin McGuff. Sheldon discussed the biggest factor in the Buckeyes win, who was sitting right next to the guard during the media availability. Also, playing in front of a raucous crowd of Cardinal fans and how her lower leg injury feels after missing the last two games against Wright State and the University of North Alabama. Harris, who sounds as sick as she was, talks about playing even though she couldn't breathe, and not expecting to get as many minutes as she did. Plus, how her teammates lifted her performance, where this game ranks in her all-time games as a Buckeye and feeding off the Louisville crowd. Coach McGuff then talks about how he leveraged experience to turn the game around, what Harris means to this Ohio State team and why freshman forward Cotie McMahon didn't play as many minutes as she has to start the season. Throughout the year, Land-Grant Holy Land will be bringing you uncut audio primarily from Ohio State press conferences, but also from individual interview sessions. On Sunday, the Ohio State Buckeyes women's basketball team played their final game in a run of three-straight home games. It was the Scarlet & Gray's final tune-up before Wednesday's game against No. 10 Louisville Cardinals. In the 105-67 win, forwards Cotie McMahon and Rebeka Mikulášiková led Ohio State in scoring, causing issues all day against the Lions. After the game, both forwards talked with the media to discuss a wide range of topics. Mikulášiková discussed withstanding the Lions energetic first quarter where they stayed within eight points of the Buckeyes going into the second quarter. McMahon talked about adjustments the team needed to make against North Alabama guard/forward Skyler Gill and reacting to the drama surrounding the Las Vegas Invitational and the Indiana Hoosier's experience. Plus, McMahon's views about fans who don't take women's basketball seriously. Following the players, head coach Kevin McGuff discussed the same issues playing North Alabama early, adjustments the team made, the big play of freshman McMahon, reaching personal NCAA best 20 points and an updated status on injured starting guard Jacy Sheldon. Throughout the year, Land-Grant Holy Land will be bringing you uncut audio primarily from Ohio State press conferences, but also from individual interview sessions. The Ohio State Buckeyes women's basketball team added another victory to their early season total, beating the Ohio University Bobcats 86-56. It was a game where the final score was favorable to the Scarlet & Gray, but the execution and game itself showed a team that's still adjusting and knocking off offseason rust. Guard Jacy Sheldon talks about the team's defensive focus in the game and how up and down the roster there were defensive plays throughout the evening. Also, how Taylor Thierry's offensive rebounding was key in the win and how the team is trying to make her more confident to see Thierry get to the next level. Also, head coach Kevin McGuff gives credit to the Ohio University Bobcats defense but shares where the team needs to improve. McGuff also discusses his substitution plan in the third and fourth quarter and more. Throughout the year, Land-Grant Holy Land will be bringing you uncut audio primarily from Ohio State press conferences, but also from individual interview sessions. The Ohio State Buckeyes entered Sunday's game against the Boston College Eagles with what looked like the potential for a letdown, following an emotional win against No. 5 Tennessee on Tuesday. Instead, career nights by Rebeka Mikulášiková and Jacy Sheldon led to a comfortable 84-62 victory over the ACC side. After the game, Mikulášiková discusses her strong start to the season, featuring two key performances against tough interior presences, what's gone into her improvement this season, and the play of Sheldon and her teammates. Head coach Kevin McGuff follows Mikulášiková up with more about the forward's big first week, Sheldon's record-tying night, the improvement of Taylor Thierry, and looking ahead to Thursday's game in Athens, Ohio, against the Ohio University Bobcats. Throughout the year, Land-Grant Holy Land will be bringing you uncut audio primarily from Ohio State press conferences, but also from individual interview sessions. The Ohio State Buckeyes women's basketball team set a high bar when scheduling their season tip-off. Head coach Kevin McGuff and the Scarlet & Gray faced a No. 5 ranked Tennessee Volunteers side featuring three players who are in the conversation for Naismith Player of the Year. What happened was a game of two halves, with the Buckeyes trying to hang in with the SEC side in the first half, but going on an 18-point run in their 87-75 victory. After the game, guard Taylor Mikesell, forward Cotie McMahon and Coach McGuff spoke with the media. Uncut shares everything they said following the big win. Mikesell discusses how it was defense that kept the team in the game, and how special it felt having fan support culminating in students in attendance storming the court following the final buzzer. McMahon talks about getting over the nerves in her first NCAA game, the officiating she believes Ohio State receives and how the seniors and more experienced players worked with her to help make Tuesday's win possible. Also, McGuff discusses poor shooting, the defense that kept them in the game, the special talent of Jacy Sheldon's defense on the night and looking ahead to Boston College on Sunday.
