#thewheeloftime Rand makes a deal that puts some distance between him and Moiraine. Nynaeve and Elayne learn more about the Seanchan and warn Rema Sedai about Liandrin's change of allegiance. Egwene gets a rough lesson in what being a Damane really means. Ingtar and Loial gather information about the Horn of Valere. Mat has a happy reunion, but has to make a painful decision when he learns of Min's betrayal. Lan makes a confession to the Amyrlin Seat. Moiraine attempts to make amends with her family. Rand is confronted on his way to Falme.Editor's Note: Around the 8:30 mark, we begin discussing the actor playing the role of Renna, and it is brought to our attention that they prefer he/they pronouns, although they are playing a confirmed female character. Our usage of she/her pronouns after that were specifically talking about the character - not the actor - and we wanted to make that clear in case it seemed as if we were misgendering actor Xelia Mendes-Jones. That was not our intention.Mentioned in the episode: JordanCon is a Science Fiction/Fantasy literature convention founded in honor of Robert Jordan, author of the Wheel of Time. JordanCon will take place April 25-27 in Atlanta GA, and we will be attending as Media guests. Find out more info by clicking the link.
#thewheeloftime Six months after Rand's "death" at the Eye of the World, the group from the Two Rivers is picking up the pieces, and struggling in the process. Nynaeve and Egwene are novices in the White Tower, where Nynaeve's reluctance to channel brings her the wrong kind of attention. Perrin is on the hunt for Padan Fain, while Mat is an unwilling guest of Liandrin. Moraine does her best to shut out Lan after losing her powers, which leaves her vulnerable to danger.Mentioned in this episode: JordanCon, a Science Fiction/Fantasy literature convention founded in honor of Robert Jordan, author of the Wheel of Time, which will take place April 25-27 in Atlanta, GA. A conversation with Przemysław Marciniak (University of Silesia) about books of fantasy, science fiction, horror, and alternative history that are either set in Byzantium or have a Byzantine ambiance. We talk about the features that signal a Byzantine setting and what the latter is good. Basically, we chat about books that we liked (or did not like). The conversation is based on Przemek's chapter 'Fantastic(al) Byzantium: The Image of Byzantium in Speculative Fiction,' in M. Kulhánková and P. Marciniak, eds., Byzantium in the Popular Imagination: The Modern Reception of the Byzantine Empire (I.B. Tauris 2023) 249-260.

In this bonus episode, we go back and look at what led up to the military coup on 7/13.
Thirty minutes before tragedy, Haisley has a chance to avert it. But her Guide, Maya, and the simulations she draws data from, ended up being wrong, causing the deaths of too many of the town's residents. Captain Dick angles his way back into the graces of the people after being deemed a Lady Killer, and proposes a union between Ellington's two most powerful personalities. Abra witnesses more atrocities, learns a lesson, and makes friends.
De'ontay finds himself pushed aside by Fyvush as the refugee camp out in the Everglades begins to fall apart, struggling to secure resources while being haunted by their Shadow. Abra is in FemCademy with the BATA girls but quickly realizes she will never be accepted when the town of Ellington is faced with a terrifying danger no one saw coming.
Haisley finds herself having the same dream-simulation where she dies on Alligator Alley six days from 7/13, yet she has learned how to have agency over her fate within the dream-simulation. The aftermath of the coup in Ellington reveals that the BATAs and ROTCs have revolted against Captain Dick, who is besieged inside City Hall. His attempts to pacify the people of Ellington have failed and a grim ending looks certain.
We are at the threshold between acts 1 & 2, so let's take a breath and connect some of the dots before Haisley wakes up in the infirmary where Abra and her mother are, and before Captain Dick figures out what to do with his injured wife, Emily, and while De'ontay gets his bearings out in the Everglades with the group of 7/13-survivors.
