I've been seriously thinking about taking up golf. I've played a little and whacked a few balls pretty far at the driving range but I'm not what you would call a golfer. Probably because it usually takes 4 hours to play, and I usually don't have an extra 4 hours. But I'm rethinking the whole idea. Why don't I have 4 hours to do something I might like? I waste just as much time walking around my house. LOL No doubt the sport of golf is growing and certainly there are many like me who have the desire, but not the knowledge or the time or the outfits, but there are some good pretty good reasons to rethink it. My recent introduction to PXG (Parsons Xtreme Golf), founded by GoDaddy's Bob Parsons, has piqued my interest. PXG is known known for its innovative approach to golf and its support for veterans' causes. They have 22 locations nationwide, where you can buy clubs and apparel and get a golf club fitting, and they even offer a mobile golf club fitting service for country clubs. Their newest location and first in the Northeast, their PXG Superstore just opened in New Rochelle, NY. Not far from where I live. So, I went to go see it. It's a wow. When I met Jason Tomlinson who runs the new PXG location, I invited him to come talk about the company, the store, the game and what they're doing to encourage new players. We both agreed: · Golf's has a positive impact on fitness. · Golf has a challenging mental aspect to the game. · Golf allows you to enjoy nature which is therapeutic. · Golf is a networking tool: a wonderful way for businesspeople to create relationships and the growing inclusion of women in the sport is refreshing. Jason and PXG want to help you all learn to play golf without feeling awkward. One upcoming event at their N.Y. location on December 9th in partnership with Westfair Communications is called "Demystifying Golf - Learn to Swing and Network”. It's from 10am -12:30 at PXG Golf, 100 Nardozzi Place New Rochelle, NY. LPGA Pro Anya Alverez will lead the clinic. The event is free but space is limited and reservations must be made in advance. Sounds like a fun way to learn about golf and network with other enthusiasts. They'll also be having a series of ongoing free clinics over the next few weeks. At PXG's huge new Rochelle facility, Jason says one of the unique things they offer are personalized golf club fittings using Trackman technology. He really emphasized the importance of a proper club fitting for improving one's golf game and said investing in quality golf clubs is an investment in one's golfing future. I think a ‘Golf Club Fitting' is a perfect gift idea for any golf enthusiast or anyone starting out. And from what I saw of the incredibly stylish PXG golf apparel around the store, anyone wearing that stuff could look like a pro whether they play the game or not. LOL But if you know you me you know I prefer ‘authentic', which is why I really like the PXG company values a lot. They're commited to supporting veterans and supporting the professional players on tour who have values that resonate. PXG's Heroes program, also offers discounts to the military and first responders. Bob Parsons and his wife have generously given away nearly $300 million to charities since 2012. Enjoy this lighthearted and informative podcast of the live radio conversation with Jason Tomlinson of PXG Golf on The Debbie Nigro Show.

The Financial Independence Retire Early movement benefits from a long-term mindset. For many investors, this equates to concepts like time in the market, dollar-cost averaging, and militant budgeting. And, yes, there's a time and place for all three of these strategies. However, by only focusing on the numbers, we skip a crucial truth: we're only human. In this chapter, Sarah from Keepin' It Frugal covers how to play the long game on your FIRE journey. Part of this involves the use of time-tested investing tactics, like tracking the right stats and ignoring the punters. But beyond the spreadsheets and data, it requires a bit of perspective and a lot of self-care. This includes marking your wins, slowing down to smell the roses, and learning whilst you work towards your goals. By this chapter's end, you won't only feel more equipped to reach FIRE; you'll also have some ideas of what to do until you get there. Have you ever considered learning to play the drums for the first time? It definitely looks cool, but is it practical to learn on your own? How hard is it? Would you be better off learning the guitar? Are lessons worth doing?Well let's drum up a bit of excitement for this week's topic (eh?? Eh?) Because we cover all of those questions and more! We did one lesson in a music school to learn everything we could - from how to properly hold the drumsticks correctly to getting started with basic drumming techniques. We actually share clips from that lesson so you can hear exactly how far one lesson will advance your drumming skills. And let me tell you now, it's not fu**ing far enough! So whether you're interested in taking up drumming as a hobby or pursuing it more seriously, when it comes to drumming advice for beginners, this episode is like a broken drum .. you just can't beat it! (We promise our humour is usually better than that very weak joke, but do expect to hear some questionable ones during our game of the week, “Badum bum sshhhhh” - sorry in advance!)Liked this episode or have a suggestion for something we should bother doing? Scott Houston's Bio: The way piano is usually taught involves practicing endless scales and etudes, memorizing complicated notation, and focusing on classical music—not to mention the challenge of finding a teacher near you. It's no wonder most folks who take traditional piano lessons either lose interest or become a good sight reader rather than a good player. It's a shame because there's actually an alternative chord-based method that makes piano one of the easiest and most freeing instruments to learn to play! With this method, new and more experienced players alike use lead sheets (simplified sheet music with letters) to learn the chords and melody of familiar tunes by actually playing them. I didn't invent this method. Heck, I'm not even one of the first people to teach it! But I am the most passionate about using it to help people play recreationally at any age. Throughout my chord-based courses, I focus on popular modern music and break down songs into small exercises, allowing students to quickly build their musical ear and fine motor skills without any notation knowledge. I believe that it's never too late to learn or loosen up your playing, which is why Piano in a Flash can be taken at any experience level, at any speed, all in a flexible online setting built just for adult learners. East River Baptist Church is a conservative, independent body of King James Bible believers located on the Northeast side of Houston, Texas. Our mission as an assembly is threefold: - To Exalt the Saviour! Eph. 3:21 - To Edify the Saints! Eph. 4:16 - To Evangelize the Sinners! Lk 24:47 What we believe about the Scriptures: We believe that the scriptures of both Old and New Testament are verbally inspired of God, that they are the supreme and final authority for faith and practice, and are preserved in the Authorized Version (KJV 1611) of the Bible. 2 Timothy 3:16. Psalm 12:6-7. What we believe about God: We believe in one God, eternally existing in three persons: Father, Son and Holy Spirit. That God is supreme in His person, absolute in His attributes, glorious in His perfection, and eternal in His being. 1 John 5:7. What we believe about Jesus: We believe in the Deity of Jesus Christ. His conception by the Holy Spirit, His virgin birth, His sinless life, His death on the cross to pay the penalty for our sins, His bodily resurrection, His exaltation at God's right hand, and His personal imminent, pre-millennial, and pre-tribulation return. Matthew 1:20. 2 Corinthians 1:21. Ephesians 1:7. Luke 24:6, 39. 1 Timothy 2:5. What we believe about Holy Spirit: We believe that the Holy Spirit is the third person of the Trinity, one with the Father and the Son, the indweller of every believer to enlighten, guide, and enable him in life, testimony, and service, and seal each believer until the day of redemption of the body. John 15:26. John 14:7 What we believe about man: We believe that God created man in His image and likeness (a triune being: spirit, soul, and body) in a state of innocence's, but through temptation, he willingly transgressed, became dead in trespasses and sins. As a result, his posterity (all men) inherited a corrupt nature, are born in sin, and are under condemnation. Genesis 1:26. Psalm 51:5. Romans 5:12. EP240: My guest this week is Matt Parkin, founder of The Awesome Ukulele Academy who can teach anyone how to play a song on the ukulele in under 3 sessions! His virtual school was his reaction to the pandemic, which means it's one of the positive outcomes because Matt is now able to take his expertise anywhere in the world and awaken the musician in those of us who have always wanted to learn to play an instrument. After playing in “dodgy” rock bands in the late 80's and 90's, Matt moved from the UK to Andalusia to raise his 3 children and chickens and to make furniture. At the age of 45, he discovered a love of teaching, by pure coincidence, which led him to go back to school and get his degree. When the parents realized how much fun their children were having, he started teaching them too. And now, after taking his ukulele teaching talents to the internet, he has a thriving multi-six figure business teaching adults worldwide how to play what he calls “the easiest instrument ever!” In this episode, Matt and I talked about: His evolution from professional rock musician to music teacher. His transition from in-person to online teaching and how the medium accelerates the learning process. How learning just one song has so many positive benefits and how anyone, at any age, can do it. The importance of having fun and doing what you love. Matt hopes to inspire you that it's never too late and you are never too old to do what you want to do, whether that's learning an instrument, setting up a business or going to Nepal. Seize the day - life is finite. I so enjoy interviewing guests like Matt who are impacting the world in big ways by doing what they love. He injected so much energy into me just by the enthusiasm he exuded so get ready because it is contagious! Here's how to be a high value woman that gets respect and only attracts high value men
As parents raising kids in today's entertainment-saturated society, do we consider the possible power and influence of music in shaping our kids' hearts and minds? Well, Socrates, Plato, and Aristotle actually did. And that was way before the advent of the electric guitar. Our guest, Lauren Green, currently serves as Fox News Channel's (FNC) chief religion correspondent based in the New York bureau. She is a graduate of Northwestern University's Medill School of Journalism, and she joined FNC in 1996. Green reported live from Rome in 2013 on the election of Pope Francis, as well as on the retirement of Pope Benedict XVI. She also provided live coverage of the beatification of Pope John Paul II from Rome in 2011 and Pope Benedict XVI's visit to the United States in 2008. Outside of her career at FNC, Green is a reputable concert pianist with a degree in piano performance from The University of Minnesota. She has interviewed some of the most prominent people in the classical music world including Placido Domingo, Pierre Boulez, and Joshua Bell and has covered such events as the Van Cliburn International Piano Competition and opening night of The Metropolitan Opera. In 2004, she released her debut album, "Classic Beauty." How the Influence of Music has a Positive Impact on Kids As it relates to bringing up healthy kids, I have a lot to say about the power of music. I often advocate for parents to introduce their kids to a musical instrument—at the earliest possible age. Why do I feel this is so important? Well, if I could raise my kids all over again, I would actually make my kids learn an instrument—probably keyboard—and then I would do all I could to get them interested in any number of other instruments as they got older. Just by saying this, there are probably a million people thinking that I am the most tyrannical dad on the face of the earth. I have my reasons for it. First, don't we basically make our kids learn other things that they have absolutely no interest in—even things they think they are likely to never use, like algebra or chemistry? When I was in public school, music class was mandatory. Music is something our kids can always use. They don't necessarily have to be gifted in music—or even like learning it at firs for music to bring benefits to their brain. So many kids who are actually made to play an instrument actually do learn to like it. Studies show that kids who can read music and play an instrument have larger frontal lobes in their brains! I'm talking physically larger! These are the reasoning faculties—the action and consequence part of the brain. It happens because they are intensely working out those areas of their brains that wouldn't ordinarily be worked out so intently. It's like going to the “brain gym.” What parent wouldn't want that for their kids? Yet, we allow our kids to sit in front of video games for hours on end. Most of that is like neural-junk food! By the way, those same studies show that reasoning skills are also advanced in kids who have been playing music. They are two to three grades ahead in math, and their SAT scores are considerably higher as well. There are many other benefits that I can't recall at the moment. It could also be argued that there is a flip side to all this. Maybe we'll touch a little bit on that with our guest today too. If not, it'll definitely be the core topic in next week's broadcast; because, whatever good that can be brought about through music, there's an equally powerful dark side that can manifest as well. I've had that confirmed over and over again right here at Shepherds Hill Academy. Lauren Green and I discuss music and kid's brains as we cover the following topics: What is the connection between music and our child's brain? How entertainment uses music to provoke emotions in the movies. Can music bring families together? Is music truly spiritual? Picture provided by: Nathaniel Ether
I'm worried folks. I'm worried that the true spirit of teamwork is being lost. I'm concerned that if we don't learn to play a part we are going to suffer. I'm concerned because I see these things rising up in me as well.
