Let's face it, in today's world, so many things make life stressful. But our bodies weren't designed to be in a state of stress, all the time. We're supposed to metabolize our stress and move through it.   The problem is, instead of facing a stressful situation every few months, we're experiencing stress daily, so we can't cycle through it and return to a baseline level of stress.   That's why so many people are struggling with overwhelm and burnout.   BossMoms have more on their plates than anyone else on the planet, so we're more prone to burnout and overwhelm. Cue the waking up tired, the brain fog, feeling unmotivated and crying in the shower. We're living on the edge of what we can handle, and our brains constantly feel like they are under threat.   How do we identify overwhelm and burnout and bring ourselves out of it? In this episode, I'm joined by attorney, pastor, Nervous System Expert, and Certified Master Life Coach, Michelle Grosser. She shares the science behind our overwhelm epidemic, and the body-based tools that will bring us out of it.   "Our bodies are supposed to metabolize stress and close the loop so we can come back to a baseline stress level. Because we're under all chronic stress, our bodies aren't able to close that stress loop. That's why there's so much overwhelm and burnout." -Michelle Grosser   3 Things You'll Learn in This Episode   -The neuroscience of burnout and overwhelm Our bodies are designed to metabolize and move through stress. How do our lives make that hard to do?    -Don't max out your stress hard drive In a world full of friction, it's impossible to expect a frictionless existence. What's the difference between the normal stresses of life and being way over the capacity of what we can handle?   -Regulate your nervous system in 60-90 seconds As moms and business owners, there's always something going on and it can leave us feeling overwhelmed in the moment. How can something as simple as a temperature change get us out of that?   Guest Bio   Michelle is an attorney, pastor, Nervous System Expert, Certified Master Life Coach, and host of The Calm Mom Podcast. Michelle delves into her journey, discussing her transition from a French Catholic upbringing in a remote town in Maine to founding a non-denominational church with her husband. The conversation explores how Michelle's early skepticism of religious institutions evolved into a profound, personal relationship with her faith, independent of traditional denominational constraints. What is the connection between our nervous system and how we experience motherhood? How can we process and release our emotions in a healthy way and then teach that to our children? Michelle Grosser is a former attorney and law professor turned mom, motherhood coach, and host of “The Calm Mom” podcast, in which she discusses high-impact habits, work-life rhythms, parenting, marriage, spirituality, and more. Michelle talks about her mom Nancy, who worked while raising five children, which resulted in burnout, and later she divorced her husband – only to fall in love with him again. From Nancy, we learn not to give all of us away until there's nothing left; that we have infinite worth just by our existence; and that we're more resilient than we think. Michelle also talks about parenting and staying calm; about the loss of identity we sometimes experience in motherhood; and the way our mothers' decisions influence our lives. Do you pride yourself on your ability to “tuck your crazy?” Would you rather boil in rage or drown in overwhelm than be exposed as a Drama Queen? We're conditioned from an early age to suppress inconvenient feelings. Whoever can put up with the most sh!t and still smile wins. My guest today is Michelle Grosser–a recovering perfectionist and nervous system regulation coach. She shares how her fear of being seen as “emotional”  crippled her ability to function as a full time litigator, part time law professor, wife and mother of two babies. She discovered that “doing too much” wasn't the problem. It was feeling too little. Prioritizing the care of her nervous system didn't require her to let go of her dreams. It enhanced her ability to achieve them.  In this episode, Michelle shares: How to pinpoint the REAL source of your stress It's not emotions that are so scary. It's your fear of losing control. How to soothe your nervous system with 10-minute /day habits. The difference between mindset and somatic tools and which work best. In our 100th episode (woot woot!!), I'm joined by Lauren, our podcast producer extraordinaire, to discuss what it means to be a “good” mom.  Do we need to throw Pinterest-worthy birthday parties (no), feed our kiddos only organic (also no), or always keep our cool (nope again)?   It does mean we love deeply.  We do our best.  We show up even when we don't feel like it.  We own our shortcomings and mistakes. We have a lot of laughs.  We wipe tears and kiss boo-boos and say bedtime prayers.  We find the joy amidst the chaos.     Lauren and I take a walk down memory lane and discuss imposter syndrome and the limiting beliefs that crept in over the launch of the podcast and how we navigated that season of growth.    As busy moms, we can get caught in a trap of trying to do it all and oftentimes our drive as high achievers can lead us to overwhelm and burnout. Lauren and I discuss how we've managed what we realistically expect of ourselves and how setting better boundaries has been key to our consistency.   Listen in as I also cast vision for what's to come for The Calm Mom Podcast.  And finally, THANK YOU for joining us for 100 episodes!  Come celebrate with us!   Three things you'll learn about in this episode:   How to set and manage the expectations you have for yourself What it means to be a calm mom and why it's possible for all of us What to do when you're feeling overwhelmed   “As calm moms, we wanna do our best to be resourced so that we can be more self-aware, more present, and more conscious in our motherhood. The reality is that as moms, as working women, we're gonna get to a place where things are sometimes chaotic, right? And so, figuring out how to get out of that chaos and back to a sense of calm or peace is our superpower.” – Michelle Grosser ·       TAKE THE PERSONALITY PATTERN QUIZ - Personality Quiz ·       BOOK A 1:1 UNSTUCK SESSION WITH MICHELLE       SHOW NOTES - What Makes a “Good” Mom, Anyway?
