I once saw a film called Sherman's March which of course I adored. But then a year or so ago, I watched another film by the same director, Bright Leaves. For some reason, it had a profound effect on me. This episode goes into detail as to why. Joining me throughout is Illinois archivist and historian Eric Edwards for this unconventional approach to this podcast. A lot of it edited, scripted, even EQ'd, but the most obvious difference are included excerpts from other shows. We hear a lot from Ross McElwee himself thanks to an array of interviews/clips from his own work. Best hear it straight from the horse's mouth. The main focus is on the two films that resonated the most - Sherman's March and Bright Leaves. But other recommendations turn up in the conversation as well with Time Indefinite and Six O'Clock News. I did revisit Photographic Memory which is harder to watch now knowing the director lost his son at a young age. Rumor has it that Ross might be working on a follow-up over 15 years later.I think of this is as my homage to the great Karina Longworth's You Must Remember This since I do provide quotes, context and things I uncovered throughout (works cited and linked below). It's also a birthday gift to me. There isn't as much of a back-and-forth approach this time but a lot of monologuing in the spirit of Ross' work. I hope you listen even if you've never heard the name Ross McElwee — then track down one of the best filmmakers I've come across.Thank you all for the support and for listening. There will be surprises, but now taking a short break. Have a great summer, I'll be back in a new abode, ready to record come August and everything after. If you are reading this you probably have been impacted by divorce in your family or your friends. Divorce breaks families and can cause decades of hurt. Our culture often celebrates divorce as an easy solution to a broken marriage and on the flip side the Church as a whole at times has marginalized and not helped disciple people going through a divorce. In this passage Paul will teach us the biblical way to think about our marriages and how Jesus will bring healing to anyone who has felt the sting of divorce.

This episode is co-hosted by second-year Radio Arts and Entertainment student at BCIT Ryan Plessl. He's currently doing his practicum with Vancouver True Crime. Ryan is a martial arts coach and teaches young kids and beginner adults how to defend themselves at Ascension Martial Arts 1320 Kingsway Ave #109, Port Coquitlam, He's always had an interest in shedding light on the crime issue in Vancouver. The strange missing men cases in BC and Metro Vancouver were discussed in this episode. We analyze some fresh information regarding the strange disappearance of Kellen McElwee The 25-year-old Burnaby man had been dining with three friends at the Keg on the evening of March 19, 2008. He was last seen heading to his car, which was parked in the Colossus movie theater parking lot nearby. Shortly after his disappearance, the investigation was taken over by the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team, and police said they were treating the case as a murder and that they believed he had met with foul play The only clue ever revealed by police was that his 2006 Honda Civic was found a few days later parked on a street not far from his Burnaby apartment. "It had been driven by someone who used the keys," said police. The same day that Kellen McElwee vanished without a trace in 2008, he became the official owner of a 26th-floor apartment in Burnaby. By assuming two other people's mortgages for the condo at 4132 Halifax St. Lougheed Highway, McElwee was able to purchase it for $675,000. At the time, the two-bedroom, sub-penthouse suite was assessed at $535,000 Why McElwee decided to pay so much more than the assessed value is one of the many unanswered questions. Who is mystery person on condo security video Burnaby RCMP released photos of a male recorded on security video leaving McElwee's condo building. The male in the photos was wearing a winter jacket with a fur-trimmedhood and carrying a DC brand backpack. a puffy Christian Audigier-style coat with fur around the hood Police never publicly identified the person as a suspect.
In Daniel 9, Daniel is now an old man reflecting back on his nearly seven decades of exile in Babylon. God allowed Jerusalem to go into exile because of their continual disobedience and hardened hearts toward Him. But Daniel knew God hadn't abandoned them; He was working on restoring them in a way that would eclipse everything they were going through. Because of this, Daniel stayed faithful to God and wasn't distracted by what was holding him captive.
When Daniel's friends were told to bow down to a golden idol, they were courageous in their convictions. As a result, they were thrown into a fiery furnace. We all face our own furnaces that ultimately reveal who we are and who we're becoming. When we go into the heat, we're not alone. We can trust God to refine us to become more like Him.
Richie McCormack was joined by journalist Molly McElwee to reflect on what's been happening in the Australian Open. Is there anybody out there to stop Novak Djokovic on his run to a 22nd Grand Slam after he outclassed the No. 5 seed Andrey Rublev to reach the semi-final this morning? And on the women's side of the draw, could Victoria Azarenka be about to win her third Grand Slam title, and what would be her first since 2013!
Journalist Molly McElwee joined Will O'Callaghan to discuss Andy Murray's remarkable first round win in the Australian Open on Tuesday's Off The Ball. With Novak Djokovic also picking up a win on his return to Melbourne and extreme weather conditions halting the play in other instances, there was plenty to talk about.
Sean McElwee is a well-known progressive activist who started the “Abolish ICE” movement and in 2018 founded Data for Progress, a progressive think tank with an emphasis on influencing public policy through polling. DFP quickly embedded itself into the top layers of the Democratic firmament. More recently, McElwee became a close political ally and adviser to FTX founder SAM BANKMAN-FRIED. McElwee had easy access to the White House and the press. And he made sure they had access to him. He kept an open Slack channel at DFP that became a rolling conversation between McElwee, Biden administration officials, and some well-known reporters. On Saturday, November 12, the day after FTX filed for bankruptcy and SBF resigned as CEO, McElwee abruptly shuttered the Slack channel. Six days later, he and Data for Progress began negotiating his exit from the firm he had built. At the time, the reported reason for the rupture was that McElwee's well-known penchant for betting on the outcomes of elections created a conflict of interest for a polling firm. A slew of 2022 DFP polls had a GOP bias, and activists on Twitter— as well as some prominent Democrats pinging reporters— asked whether McElwee was cooking DFP's polls to affect races and cash in. Sources at DFP insist that this would have been highly unlikely, and that their polls had a GOP bias because of an oversampling of respondents via SMS. In the wake of this, DFP recently adopted a previously unreported “Gambling and Wagering Policy” that prohibits employees from betting on anything related to DFP projects or clients. The McElwee-DFP breakup was ugly, but the two sides were trying to negotiate an amicable separation agreement and a severance. Then on Dec. 13, the U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York unsealed an eight-count indictment against SBF. The first seven counts, which were about financial crimes, garnered the most attention. But it was the eighth count that turned heads in Washington, alleging a straw-donor scheme in which SBF funneled corporate money to candidates and committees through third parties. And SDNY alleged that SBF had help: SBF “and others known and unknown,” the indictment says, made contributions “in the names of other persons.” In the race to figure out who might have helped SBF make straw donations, McElwee's name was at the top of the list. The leadership at DFP suddenly feared they could be in the middle of a much bigger scandal.
As believers, we are called to continue to grow our faith and live it out every day. One of the ways we do that is by passing on God's Truth to the next generation through family and friends.
Dom welcomes Real Clear Pennsylvania Editor Charles McElwee onto the Dom Giordano Program to discuss comments he made on the Ricochet Podcast, telling that he thinks the Republicans overbid a bit on the issue of crime, explaining that suburban voters didn't value the issue on the level that Republicans had expected. McElwee tells why he believes this, telling what he's heard from suburban voters who have only a distant memory now of regularly coming and commuting into Philadelphia. McElwee tells that this has led voters to care less about the crime in the City, and the Republicans could have gained more ground speaking on other, more relatable issues. (Photo by Getty Images)
Full Hour | In today's third hour, Dom welcomes Real Clear Pennsylvania Editor Charles McElwee onto the Dom Giordano Program to discuss comments he made on the Ricochet Podcast, telling that he thinks the Republicans overbid a bit on the issue of crime, explaining that suburban voters didn't value the issue on the level that Republicans had expected. Then, Dom welcomes Dave White, former candidate for Governor in Pennsylvania, back onto the Dom Giordano Program. White, also a long-time political powerhouse in his native Delaware County, tells Giordano what should have been done differently by Republicans in the midterms, with White honing in on a change of messaging, particularly on the issue of abortion. Then, Dom delves into the co-opting of issues by the Democratic Party, asking how White would have navigated the Democratic Party's tendency to twist Republican stances on issues. (Photo by Getty Images)
Full Hour | In today's second hour, Dom leads off the hour by announcing some of the answers to his side question of the day, asking listeners for what song would torture them if played on repeat, which kicks off a venting session for Dan about Cher and her influence of using auto-tune on the music scene. Then, Dom plays back a clip from RealClearPolitic's Charles McElwee, who will be joining next hour, who suggests that Republicans misjudged the value of crime in the election, noting that suburban voters did not care about this issue nearly as much as the Republicans had thought, which sets off Giordano. Also mentioned by McElwee is that Mastriano was a political ‘Doomsday Machine' for the rest of Republicans in the State, which prompts a conversation centered around that topic for most of the remainder of the hour. The Rich Zeoli Show- Hour 1: 3:05pm- Last week, the Pennsylvania Supreme Court ruled that election officials cannot count mail-in ballots that are incorrectly dated. On Sunday, Senator Bob Casey Jr. (D-PA) warned that “hundreds of mail-in ballots have been reported as incorrectly dated.” 3:15pm- With recent polling indicating voters prefer Republican candidates in the November 8th midterms, Democrats have begun to emphasize their belief that democracy could fall under GOP leadership. Will their unsubstantiated hysterics be enough to change the minds of swing voters? 3:25pm- On Friday, President Joe Biden stated he wanted to shutdown coal plants “across America.” While speaking at a rally for Governor Kathy Hochul at Sarah Lawrence College in New York, Biden also vowed to end drilling for oil domestically. Recognizing the President's proclamations to end domestically produced fossil fuels could be harmful to Democrat candidates just days before the 2022 midterms, White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre claimed, Biden's “words were twisted.” 3:40pm- Charles McElwee—Editor of Real Clear Pennsylvania—joins The Rich Zeoli Show to discuss his latest editorial, “Voter Sentiment in PA Suggests a Republican Year.” McElwee warns that due to presumed complications with mail-in ballots and a divided Pennsylvania Supreme Court, the U.S. Senate race between John Fetterman and Dr. Mehmet Oz could end with a series of lawsuits that are ultimately heard by the U.S. Supreme Court.

For example, Biden claimed he has spent “more time with Xi Jinping than any other head of state” and has traveled more than “17,000 miles with him.” Kessler points out that not only are these claims false, but he has repeated the claim 21 times! According to the WaPo, Biden has also lied about the price of gas, student debt forgiveness, and Social Security cost-of-living increases. 4:30pm- During an interview, Congressman Sean Patrick Maloney (D-NY) suggested that his family combatted high gas prices by eating foods like Chef Boyardee. 4:45pm- Todd Shepherd—Broad + Liberty's Chief Investigative Reporter—joins The Rich Zeoli Show to discuss his most recent article, “Can You Drop Off 100 Ballots in PA? It's Probably Not Legal, But Two Agencies Refuse to Clarify.” At a recent board meeting, Bucks County Commissioner Bob Harvie (D) explained, “you could go to a senior center or a nursing home, and get a hundred ballots, as long as you have 100 designated-agent forms from each of those voters, you're allowed to bring 100 ballots. That's the law.” 5:05pm- President Joe Biden vowed to end domestic drilling and coal mining. Will those proclamations hurt Democrats in the November 8th midterm elections? 5:10- While speaking at the United Nations, Secretary-General Antonio Guterres stated that Russia's war in Ukraine has “exposed the profound weakness of our fossil fuel addiction”—warning that the world is on a “highway to climate hell.” 5:30pm- Chef Boyardee was awarded The Gold Star from the United States military for his tireless efforts to keep American troops fed during World War II. Who knew? 5:45pm- House Democratic Whip James Clyburn said that if Republicans win big in the 2022 midterms, it could be the end of the world—then, while on Fox News, he denied ever saying it, but did compare voting for Republicans to voting for Nazis… 6:05pm- Rich finds out he is being bumped for Temple basketball! It's just like the old days…

Governor John Fetterman told moderators he will not release his medical records prior to the November 8thelection—claiming he has been “very open” about his health struggles and that his doctor has declared him “fit to serve.” 4:15pm- While appearing on News Nation with Chris Cuomo, neurologist Dr. Huma Sheikh explained there is no guarantee John Fetterman will see improvements in his speech patterns and ability to speak spontaneously since he is already six months removed from the stroke he suffered. 4:20pm- During the debate, Dr. Mehmet Oz was asked whether he would support Lindsey Graham's proposed legislation to federally ban abortion after 15-weeks—Oz responded by stating he does not support any legislation that prevents states from making their own decisions on abortion. 4:35pm- Charles McElwee—Editor of Real Clear Pennsylvania—joins the show to recap Tuesday night's debate between Lt. McElwee explains that he has heard from many Democrats who will not vote for Oz or leave the Senate portion of their ballot blank due to Fetterman's poor performance. Is the media responsible for failing to press Fetterman and his campaign harder on health concerns? 4:50pm- Appearing on MSNBC with Stephanie Rule, former Philadelphia Mayor Michael Nutter referred to Dr. Mehmet Oz as a "complete fraud" and suggested that Oz's glorification of state's rights could be potentially harmful to black people in America. 4:55pm- During the debate, John Fetterman claimed to support fracking in Pennsylvania but could not explain away a 2018 interview where he stated he was against fracking. Fetterman also denied interest in expanding the Supreme Court—however, he conceded he would like to do away with the filibuster.

Did Fetterman's campaign hope the narrative would change from political issues to sympathy? 3:25pm- During Tuesday night's highly anticipated debate between Senate candidates Dr. Mehmet Oz and Lt. Governor John Fetterman, Fetterman noticeably struggled with his speech and seemingly had difficulty collecting his thoughts prior to answering questions. Rich speaks with listeners who react to the performances of both candidates. 3:45pm- During Tuesday's debate, Dr. Mehmet Oz brought up a 2013 incident in which John Fetterman brandished a shotgun and detained an unarmed, innocent black man who was jogging in Braddock, PA. Oz asked, “why not apologize?” 4:05pm- Lt. Governor John Fetterman and Dr. Mehmet Oz. 5:05pm- During the debate, moderators asked Dr. Mehmet Oz if he would support Senator Pat Toomey's (R-PA) push for gun reform legislation. Oz said there were elements of Toomey's proposed bill that he likes a lot, including expanded background checks and greater funding for mental health programs. 5:15pm- In his closing statement, Dr. Mehmet Oz explained he is a “living embodiment of the American dream.” 5:20pm- Both John Fetterman and Dr. Oz stated they support an increase in minimum wage—however, while Fetterman would like to see the increase mandated by government, Oz believes raises are achievable by adopting business-friendly policies and by harnessing the power of Pennsylvania's fracking industry to boost the state's economic performance. 5:35pm- Daniel Turner—Founder & Executive Director of Power the Future—joins the show to recap Tuesday night's Pennsylvania U.S. Senate debate, specifically John Fetterman's claim that he now supports fracking. In 2018, Fetterman stated “I don't support fracking at all.” Can he be trusted on this issue? Or is he simply saying what he believes voters want to hear? 5:55pm- When asked about John Fetterman's rocky debate performance, White House Press Secretary Karine Jean Pierre stated that President Joe Biden has been impressed with Fetterman throughout his campaign. 6:05pm- In an opinion editorial featured on Fox News, Dr. Nichole Saphier addressed the 2022 National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP) which showed student math and reading scores have declined sharply since 2019, correlating to the K-12 remote learning adopted during the COVID-19 pandemic. Dr. Saphier explains the prolonged school lockdowns were the result of teacher union politics—and not based on science or medical recommendations. 6:55pm- Who Won Social Media? + Zeoli's Final Thought

During a so-called "baptism" in a creek in Pennsylvania, a mother of five is accused of trying to drown her two "possessed" children. A 32-year-old mother was arrested after she allegedly tried to drown her "possesed" children in a creek. Documents from the Dauphin County Court show that Candice McElwee has been indicted on nine charges, including two counts of attempted murder, two counts of aggravated assault, and five counts of endangering the welfare of children. At 9:16 a.m. on September 6, Pennsylvania State Police Troopers allegedly "attempted to locate a woman who was attempting to drown her children in a creek." At 3:30 in the afternoon, troopers located her with the four kids. According to court documents cited by WHTM-TV, McElwee and her kids were spotted strolling along a highway at around 3 a.m. on the day in question. McElwee allegedly told an eyewitness that she was attempting to baptize her children when she ran out of gas. The witness took McElwee, her kids, and their van to the gas station and back. State Troopers found out McElwee and her four children hadn't been heard from in two days and had allegedly reason to suspect she was on meth and having health problems. McElwee has three kids, ages 3, 10, and 12. The younger children stayed with McElwee, while the older children (10 and 12) were reported to be at a relative's house. The witness claims she made the following statement: "Here's my dilemma: The demons possessing one of my kids must be contained, and one of them must be killed." The child McElwee felt compelled to "eliminate" would be "resurrected and all will be good again," according to reports. They say McElwee tried to "baptize" them by submerging their heads and declaring things like "I'll drown my own daughter" to them, according to one of the children who spoke to authorities. Also, McElwee allegedly tried to bury her children alive by covering them with dirt and rocks. According to reports, she warned that a flood was imminent and called the children's father the "son of the devil." McElwee's bail has been set at $750,000, and she is currently being held in the Dauphin County Jail.If you like TRUE CRIME TODAY - Be sure to search and subscribe wherever you download podcasts! With the midterms just over six months away, the electoral prospects for Democrats are looking bleak. President Biden's approval rating is at 42 percent, around where Donald Trump's was at this point in his presidency. Recent polls asking whether Americans want Republicans or Democrats in Congress found that Republicans are leading by about 2 percentage points. And with inflation spiking to its highest point in decades, Covid cases rising and Russia's invasion of Ukraine continuing to send economic and humanitarian shock waves across the globe, things don't look as if they are going to get better anytime soon. What will it take for Democrats to turn things around? What fights should they be picking with Republicans, and how should they be making the case that they deserve another chance at leading the country?Sean McElwee is a co-founder and the executive director of Data for Progress, a research organization that gathers polling data to strategize on behalf of progressive causes and policies. Anat Shenker-Osorio is a principal at ASO Communications, a political communications firm that conducts analytic and empirical research to help progressive political campaigns. McElwee and Shenker-Osorio have deeply influenced my thinking on how words work in American politics: how campaigns can meaningfully address what voters want and how they can persuade swing voters and motivate the party's base.In this conversation, McElwee and Shenker-Osorio help me understand where Democrats stand with the electorate and what, if anything, they can do to improve their chances in 2022. We discuss why Biden's approval rating is so low, given the popularity of his policies, why governing parties so often lose midterm elections, whether Democrats should focus more on persuading swing voters or on mobilizing their base, why it's important for Democrats to get their base to sing from the same songbook, what Democrats can learn from Trump about winning voters' attention, how Republicans are running politics on easy mode, whether it was wise politically for Biden to double down on the message to fund the police, what political fights Democrats should pick in the lead-up to the midterms, how the party should handle spiking inflation and more.Mentioned:"Democrats, Here's How to Lose in 2022.
