A Sense of Community is what they are after on their 13th studio album “Big Big Love.”
Whether we're happy or sad, music helps us channel what we're feeling. It takes us into a moment of reflection, memory, or imagination. This episode talks about music and mood mindfulness. I'm feeling so energized after going to a concert with my mom. We had a great time watching Michael Franti & Spearhead rock out and share their music. It's not just the tunes that made the experience awesome, it's the message. Much of their music is filled with positive and encouraging words. I'm here to spend quality solo time with you for EP148's Wise Walk as we discover our True Stride. It was my first time going to see this artist, and I'm so glad I took the time to go. Michael Franti & Spearhead did things in the concert that helped concert-goers feel like a community. By the end, my mother and I had these memorable and friendly moments with the people sitting around us at the concert. On our Wise Walk, I talk about music and mood mindfulness. Music can reflect our mood or help us set the intention of our mood. Come with me as we reflect on these Wise Walk questions: Where in your life are you using music to inspire you, to boost your energy, to shift your mindset, to think about your emotions, and to feel your feelings? How can you be more mindful of the different ways that music impacts you? Can you invite magical moments from music into your life? Can you create new memories with music experiences? What songs make you happy? What old songs do you like to share with others? Music is a force that empowers us to fully be present with what we're feeling. The joy of music is absolutely contagious. Curate the music of your life with these Wise Walk questions: How can you be intentional about the way you use music in your life? How are you using music to enhance an experience? What type of music helps you set the tone for a moment? Are you allowing music to transport you? How can you use music to express the mood you envision? Can you make a commitment today to curate a playlist of mood enhancing music for yourself? Join this inspiring community to uncover a new sense of freedom, and be sure to follow and review the True Stride podcast as we continue to exchange our light and Heart Value with each other. That's where we believe the artists come in. So, each week we feature an artist, holding down a weekly residency with us, helping us to imagine a different, more liberated world. Guest Bio:“Montana isn't just where I live,” says Satsang's Drew McManus. “It's my heart, my soul. Along with my family, it's my everything.”It's little wonder, then, that the state played such a pivotal role in inspiring ‘All Right Now,' Satsang's extraordinary new album and debut release for venerated indie label Side One Dummy. Written and recorded during an extended hiatus from the road, the record finds McManus reconnecting with his western roots and exploring a whole new palette of sounds and textures, drawing on classic country and modern Americana to forge a joyful, rustic collection all about letting go and living in the moment. McManus produced the album himself, and while the songs here are certainly honest and deeply personal, they're written in a spiritual language that taps into something far more universal, something inherent in the human condition that binds us as brothers and sisters on a shared journey to find ourselves and our place in this world. The performances and arrangements are broad and spacious to match, reflecting the wide-open fields and soaring mountains that surrounded the band during the whirlwind recording process, and the result is a lush, organic collection fueled by acoustic guitars, fiddle, and pedal steel, a warm, inviting record that hints at everything from Uncle Tupelo and The Jayhawks to Gregory Alan Isakov and The Head and the Heart as it meditates on the power—and the pull—of home.“I've been on the road for the last five or six years straight,” says McManus, “so being back in Montana for a whole year was a big change. Having that kind of uninterrupted time at home helped me fall back in love with songwriting in a whole new way.”Though McManus was born in Montana, he actually spent much of his formative years in Des Moines, IA. His childhood was troubled, to say the least, marked by physical abuse at home and a nose for trouble that surrounded him. Music offered an escape, though, and McManus found solace in the punk rock and hip-hop he discovered through his love of skateboarding. Brash and aggressive, the songs were a far cry from the country tunes his mother played on endless loop around the house.“She loved the old stuff like Buck Rogers and Hank Williams,” McManus recalls, “but she was really into that mid-to-late-nineties sound, guys like Garth Brooks and Randy Travis and Travis Tritt. I didn't get it at the time, but she always used to tell me, ‘Someday, when you're older, you'll come back to this music.'”Desperate to escape his surroundings and convinced that he'd wind up in jail like his brother if he stayed, McManus left home as a teenager and moved in with his older sister in Chicago. His first few years there played out like one long party, but as time wore on, it became apparent that the party was spiraling out of control. “It was clear to everyone else around me that I was an alcoholic and a drug addict,” McManus explains. “Eventually, my friends just sat me down and said, ‘We think you're going to die if you keep this up.'”So McManus packed his bags and headed back to Montana, where his biological father worked at a rehab clinic. The road to recovery was a long and arduous one, but McManus eventually got clean and sober, fell in love, and married the woman of his dreams. For the first time in a long time, life was good, and yet it still felt like something was missing, like some fundamental building block of his personality was being neglected. It wasn't until McManus found himself on a backpacking trek in the Himalayas that the final piece of the puzzle fell into place. “I realized on that trip that you only get one shot at life,” says McManus, “and if you've got a chance to utilize your talents and follow your dreams, then you've got to go for it. It gave me this renewed sense of purpose, and within a week of getting back home, I started playing shows and launched the band.”McManus filled notebook after notebook on that Himalayan journey, and the material would eventually go on to form the basis of Satsang's breakout 2016 debut, ‘The Story of You.' Steeped in reggae, hip-hop, and world music, the album was an uplifting affirmation that connected with fans around the world, racking up roughly 15 millions streams on Spotify alone. McManus and his bandmates returned a year later with their similarly successful sophomore effort, ‘Pyramid(s),' which hit #1 on the Billboard Reggae Chart and #2 on iTunes, and pushed their sound even further with 2019's ‘Kulture,' which incorporated a wider swath of influences from Motown to Tom Petty. Relentless road warriors, the group built a devoted following one night at a time, sharing stages with the likes of Michael Franti & Spearhead and Nahko and Medicine for the People as they worked their way up from bars and clubs to massive festivals.
SUMMARY:Our guest on this episode of Songcraft is musician, rapper, poet, activist, and singer-songwriter Michael Franti, who is best known for his work with his group Spearhead. He joins us to discuss the evolution of his music, the creation of hits such as “Say Hey (I Love You)” and “The Sound of Sunshine,” and his most recent album, Work Hard & Be Nice. He went on to release a string of albums that hit the Rock Albums Top 5, including The Sound of Sunshine, All People, and SoulRocker. His most recent album is called Work Hard & Be Nice, which was released during the pandemic in the summer of 2020. Sari and Laura manage to find a way to still have conversations while being quarantined. This week's Bucketlist For Babes is related to last week's B4B: Text an old friend you haven't seen in a while. In Wifeys Weekly Words, the girls talk about healthy friendships -- not putting too much or too little in them. This week's Love, Lust or Lie has been transformed into a For The Boys segment. Laura and Sari talk to the boys about the importance of skincare, that beauty isn't just for girls and the difference of being clean versus being tidy. The songs of the week are The Sound of Sunshine by Michael Franti & Spearhead and Glow by Donavon Frankenreiter. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app

The Rock'N Vino podcast sits down with BottleRock Co-Founder and Partner of BottleRock Presents Dave Graham about this year's line-up. Find out about what's new, what's happening, and what to expect from the year's festival as long as a breakdown from Coco and Mike on this year's line-up. NAPA — BottleRock Napa Valley producers today unveiled the lineup for the seventh incarnation of their annual wine country festival, held at the Napa Valley Expo between May 24 and 26—Memorial Day weekend. This year's lineup features a new twist with the festival featuring dual headlining sets each night. Friday includes alt-rockers Imagine Dragons and rapper Logic. Saturday has Neil Young and Promise of the Real, along with R&B superstar Pharrell Williams. Rootsy rock band Mumford & Sons and guitar virtuoso Santana will close out the festival on Sunday, May 26. The lineup again features more than 80 artists over the three days. "We've expanded the capability of the second stage," BottleRock CEO Dave Graham said. The bill is rounded out by a slate of eclectic artists, including Sylvan Esso, OneRepublic, Flogging Molly, Nathaniel Rateliff and the Night Sweats, Cypress Hill, Tash Sultana, Lord Huron, Big Boi, Bishop Briggs, Jeff Goldbum & The Mildred Snitzer Orchestra and others. BottleRock will again feature it's culinary stage pairing celebrity chefs with musicians, actors and Bay Area luminaries cooking up unique dishes for festivalgoers, along with the festival's focus on the region's best food and wine. The culinary stage lineup will be announced in April.
