Maurice commémore ce dimanche 1er février le 191ᵉ anniversaire de l'abolition de l'esclavage. À cette occasion, une série de cérémonies de dépôt de gerbes est organisée à travers le pays, notamment au Monument aux Esclaves à Pointe Canon, Mahébourg, au site historique Frederik Hendrik à Vieux-Grand-Port, ainsi qu'au Bassin des Esclaves à Pamplemousses. Toutefois, le site le plus emblématique demeure Le Morne, classé au patrimoine mondial de l'UNESCO, où des esclaves en fuite se seraient sacrifiés pour préserver leur liberté. Chaque année, ce village chargé d'histoire devient le cœur des commémorations. Pour Joe Ramalingum, président des senior citizens de Le Morne, contempler la montagne est un acte chargé de mémoire, ravivant le souvenir des ancêtres. Il y a 80 ans jour pour jour, le camp d'Auschwitz-Birkenau, en Pologne, était libéré. Plus d'un million de juifs y ont été exterminé pendant la seconde guerre mondiale. Une cinquantaine de rescapés ont participé lundi 27 janvier à une grande cérémonie, des rescapés qui sont de moins en moins nombreux. Avec leur disparition se pose le devoir de mémoire. Qui pour raconter l'horreur des camps aux générations futures ? C'est pour cela qu'existe par exemple le mémorial de la Shoah à Paris. Today, people across New Orleans and all of Louisiana are remembering Sybil Morial, who died this week at 91. While often remembered as the wife of New Orleans' first Black mayor, Dutch Morial, and mother to two-term mayor, Marc Morial, she was also a civil rights icon in her own right. The Times Picayune/The Advocate's Stephanie Grace tells us about Morial's role in fighting discrimination at universities, advocating for voter registration, and her family's history in the New Orleans area.Misoprostol is a life-saving drug, often used to stop postpartum hemorrhaging. Pour célébrer l'anniversaire du Débarquement du 6 juin 1944, le Mémorial de Caen a choisi de porter un projet d'exposition très original. Pas d'images de guerre, de destructions ou de morts, tout est déjà dans le parcours permanent mais une plongée dans la culture américaine des années 20 et 30, autrement une plongée dans l'esprit et l'imaginaire des soldats qui débarquent sur les plages normandes pour libérer l'Europe. Stéphane Dubreil a rencontré le commissaire scientifique de l'exposition, l'historien Clément Fabre quelques heures avant le vernissage. Y'all. I had to adjust my hat for this one. Mayor Marc Morial will be celebrating his 30'th anniversary of not only becoming mayor of New Orleans  but following in his father's footsteps by being one of the First  African American Mayors. Not only that but at the time he was the youngest in history! At 35 years old, he implemented a new way of leading. He brought EVERYONE to the table. He's the people's mayor. In his administration, crime fell by 5 %! He had a hands on approach that REALLY reaped benefits! By the time his re elections ended he won his second term by almost 80%. He brought an eager and ambitious plan to help revitalize all parts of this city. His legacy lives strong as the Mayor that cleaned out city hall with a shovel, rather than a broom.One day, this great city will find another leader like Mr. Morial.
