Twenty years ago, Robert Kirkman unleashed Invincible upon the planet. The comic represented an opportunity to do everything he ever imagined a superhero comic was capable of doing. Through Image Comics (and what would eventually develop into his own Skybound Entertainment), the comic creator found a narrative freedom that previously proved impossible at the big two comic companies. In the process, he also created an utterly compelling romance that took significant time to develop, causing profound melodramatic tension in his audience. We're positively giddy to welcome Robert Kirkman onto the show this week. For years, we've wanted to cover Mark Grayson and Atom Eve's relationship. Invincible is such a massive story, and we needed to figure out where to begin and how to cram it all into four Counseling Session episodes. Thankfully, Kirkman knew exactly how we could pull it off and was happy to help us through our programming. Before we meet up with Kirkman, however, we run down our recent Seattle trip and review the magnificent Emerald City Comic Con. As first-time attendees, we were overwhelmed with everything the convention offered, from in-depth panels to an endless array of comic artists. All cons have their own vibe, and ECCC was no exception. You may want to add this show to your yearly schedule. Access to Lola pancakes might be reason enough. Our Seattle review concludes at the 18:19 minute mark. You can skip it if all you're here for is the Robert Kirkman talk, but then you'd miss out on Lisa's hairdo debacle, which would be a terrible shame. Our chat with Robert Kirkman does drift into a little Fire Power celebration. We couldn't help ourselves, especially when we considered how that comic's central romance sorta operates as a spiritual sequel to the one shared between Mark and Eve. We don't go into any major spoilers. So, if all you've seen is the Invincible television series, this episode is a safe space. Make sure that you follow Robert Kirkman on his Twitter and through the Skybound Entertainment website. Invincible recently published an anniversary facsimile edition, a stripped-down black and white number one, and a new deluxe edition compendium. Seek those out at your local comic shop. A 'nice' narcissist is a vulnerable narcissist who may appear unassuming when you first meet them. They focus entirely on you when you first meet and mirror your best qualities to you, helping to secure your trust in them. Over time, a covert narcissist will use mind games you may not initially understand as a form of abuse or control. For instance, stonewalling can invalidate your emotions, needs, or desires to clear the air or get to the bottom of a relationship issue. In this episode, Lisa A. Romano, Codependency and Narcissistic Abuse Recovery Coach, helps us better understand how subtle invalidation is a form of covert abuse. Read Lisa's books here; amazon.com/author/lisaaromano

Are you consuming more than creating in your day?Feeling good enough and NOT good enough has a lot to do with whether you will listen to your truest desires or not, whether you will take action toward creating that something of your dreams or not. Listening to yourself and telling yourself the truth about what you want is more powerful than hiding from it. If you need help with finding what your truest desire is then i can help and also help you with your relationships, sign up here for a free session or email me at natalia@coachingnatalia.com Here is a review from one of my clients:Before working with Natalia I could not manage my anxiety. Now I could drive my kids to school, or get groceries, do whatever needs to be done, Before that I thought I would die for sure, I was paralyzed.I got control of my life back and I feel awesome, free, lighter. She got me back to my confidence, got me back to who I really am.For anyone who is on the fence about doing this work I would say that for me it was definitely the key help to get out of it so it does work. And it does change you it doesn't just help you it changes you in a positive way. So it is really worth it. Everybody should know the stuff that Natalia has to share. I felt I was finally reconnecting with myself even while having anxiety. I got really good at realizing that anxiety is just an emotion just like happiness, sadness and it is just something that happens in our body. I was able to get personal with myself. She gave me the access key to get personal with myself and understand what is going on in my brain. Read Lisa's FULL STORY HERELisa , stay at home mom of 2

She has done over 70,000 kilometers around the earth. Lisa wasn't built to run; instead, she decided she wanted to become a runner. In the beginning, Lisa suffered. However, she got good enough to overcome the adversity. [07:15] Lisa Was In An Abusive Relationship and Discovered Ultramarathon Running Lisa was in an abusive relationship in her 20s. Her relationship had a massive impact on her. Lisa felt hopeless because she was constantly being verbally abused. Eventually, Lisa recovered from her relationship and got into ultramarathon running. The comradeship, friendship, and positivity kept her coming back to ultramarathons. [18:10] What To Do If You're Going Through A Traumatic Situation You need to take control of some aspect of the crisis you're going through. The amygdala is a very primitive part of the brain that does this fight or flight response. Your amygdala will takeover during something traumatic. So, you need to get control of your breath. The exhale will be critical; the exhale tells your body that it is not in danger. In fight or flight, your prefrontal cortex turns off. Next, look at what you can control. [23:35] Relentless: How A Mother and Daughter Defied The Odds Six years ago, Lisa's mom had a massive aneurysm. When they got to the doctor, they said she only had a migraine. After six hours, Lisa's mom got a CT scan; they found out a massive vessel had burst. At that moment, they didn't think she would survive. An air ambulance took twelve hours to arrive. To stay calm, Lisa figured out what she could be in control of during this situation. Lisa's mom was in and out of a coma for three weeks. Eventually, she stabilized, and she survived. The book Relentless is a mindset book; it's the mindset that it takes to overcome massive obstacles. The book can be applied in any situation. [44:00] Fasting and Ketones To Help Overcome Health Struggles Lisa's mom would eat one meal a day. Unfortunately, she wouldn't fast for an entire day. Exogenous ketones helped her stay in ketosis. Lowering free radicals and inflammation is a huge benefit. Ketones cannot be used as fuel for cancer. Plus, Lisa would give her mom PerfectAmino: https://bodyhealth.com/products/perfectamino-special-3-pack [54:00] How To Talk To Doctors When They Don't Listen There are many limitations in the medical system. You have to advocate, and you have to push; don't sit there and be polite. We are taught that doctors are the authority figure, and we need to do what they say. Remember, there are commercial interests behind the medical system. Do your own research. AND MUCH MORE! California's Climate Program Is Actually Adding Carbon To The Atmosphere California has a reputation as the state that's doing the most about climate change. And the lynchpin of those efforts is California's Cap-and-Trade program, where the state's biggest polluters—like ExxonMobil, BP, and others—are required to offset their carbon dioxide emissions by investing in carbon reduction strategies. But according to a recent investigation by ProPublica and others, this climate solution is actually adding millions of tons of carbon to the atmosphere. They discovered a loophole in the state's forest offset program, which seeks to reduce carbon emissions by preserving trees. Uncovered by additional reporting, they found that the Massachusetts Audubon Society, a forest conservation organization, enrolled 9,700 acres it owned into California's program and received the credits, even though it was unlikely that Mass Audubon ever intended to cut down its preserved forests. The intended use of these offsets was to change the behavior of landowners who were likely to cut down trees, releasing carbon dioxide in the atmosphere. The result, in this instance, seemed to go against the spirit of the Cap-And-Trade program, that the state's biggest polluters' emissions weren't truly being offset. Guest host Sophie Bushwick is joined by Lisa Song, a ProPublica reporter who broke this story with MIT Technology Review, with help from Carbon Plan, a nonprofit that analyzes the scientific integrity of carbon removal efforts. Read Lisa's investigative story here. A Monterey Bay Aquarium Scientist Gives Fun Facts About Cephalopods It's the most wonderful time of the year! No, not the holidays—it's Cephalopod Week, and SciFri uses any excuse to celebrate the mysterious squid, the charismatic octopus and the cute cuttlefish. If anyone matches SciFri's enthusiasm for marine invertebrates, it's the folks at the Monterey Bay Aquarium. Guest host Sophie Bushwick talks to Christina Biggs, senior aquarist at the Monterey Bay Aquarium in Monterey, California. Biggs spills behind-the-scenes details about everything from raising cephalopods from eggs to how their dietary preferences can resemble those of picky toddlers. “She'll come right over to grab food,” Biggs says of one of the aquarium's Giant Pacific Octopuses. “And on Sardine Sundays, she just tosses it right over her head and just waits for something better.” Can't get enough of Cephalopod Week? Listen to the latest episode of SciFri's Science Diction podcast, or check out some fun cephalopod-themed videos on TikTok. The Long Tail Of Long COVID As the highly transmissible delta variant of COVID-19 continues to spread, it now makes up more than 20% of cases in the United States—including in Missouri, where cases are the highest since mid-February. Meanwhile, a new report finds the number of people experiencing long-term COVID symptoms is as high as 23% of those who have ever had the disease, including people who never had symptoms in their initial infection. The report from FAIR Health, which surveyed the insurance records of more than two million people, is the largest yet to investigate long COVID. Guest host Sophie Bushwick talks to the MIT Technology Review's Amy Nordrum about the long reach of COVID-19. Plus a bet about improbable physics, the arrival of baby bobtail squid at the International Space Station, and what happens when a spider eats a snake.

In this episode, Lisa Attygale from Tamarack joins Andrea to talk about her new paper: Understanding Community-Led Approaches to Community Change. Lisa began researching for this paper when she noticed that organizations often use the term “community led” when the activities they called community led had a range, and many wouldn’t be classified as community led. Lisa reviewed 67 organizations that described themselves as community led approaches, and mapped their approaches from grass-roots approaches to consultation. Lisa strongly felt that we needed to gain understanding of the term “community led” and developed a spectrum to capture these approaches: from community informed to community owned to community shaped to community driven.Lisa and Andrea talk about community led approaches, some of the barriers organizations might face in implementing them, and the role of power in working with community. DC Dental Clinical Director Dr. Lisa Germain shares her passion for dental education and training on this episode of the Dental Slang podcast. She’s working to bridge the gap between endodontists and dental implants—which is no easy task. Dr. Germain has taken on this challenge in stride thanks to her unique perspective on what it means to be a better endodontist and a better dentist. To Dr. Germain, being a better dentist means giving patients complete dental care. Learning about implants is just one of the steps she’s taking to provide her patients with the best care possible. Part of her role at DC Dental is to help other dentists offer that level of care as well, and she’s doing that by leading the company’s educational webinar program. That’s right. DC Dental offers more than just dental supplies and tools. The webinar program arms dentists with the education they need to not only use these supplies and tools, but also to hone their dental skills—for free. In this episode, we tell you how you can take advantage of this continuing education opportunity so you can become a better dentist. Remember, no matter what your dental niche is, there are always opportunities for growth. Dr. Germain also shares why she became a dentist and what ultimately inspired her to start her own podcast, This Old Tooth. The work Dr. Germain does through her podcast—and the work she discusses with us on this episode—is meant to empower patients to seek proper dental care and education. The Genealogy Gems Podcast with Lisa Louise Cooke - Your Family History Show
Genealogy Gems Podcast Episode 229 with Lisa Louise Cooke May 2019 NEWS: Lisa Louise Cooke is back in the studio after two weeks on the road speaking at the Ohio Genealogical Society (OGS) Conference and the National Genealogical Society (NGS) Conference. Each conference was great and had its own unique feel, and there were many new genealogists in attendance. Genealogy Gems listener Carol stopped by and enthusiastically shared with how the eBay search strategies for family history that Lisa discussed in paid off in a big way! MAILBOX: Robin wrote in to share how Sydney Orton's song with her grandpa in Genealogy Gems Podcast brought her to tears in a toll plaza while driving! Steve wrote in to rave about the value that his new has brought to his family history research. Rylee says she's grateful to have found the podcast and she shares a story of genealogical discovery that she hopes will inspire others. Rylee asks “How do I find sources for these people? I have searched all over ancestry and Family Search and have had no luck again. I really want to believe that the people I have as Adam's parents and siblings all the way through his 2nd great-grandparents (paternal) are truly his family but I need to get more information. Where can I go for help with German records and where can I continue my search?” Lisa's comments: You're absolutely right, what you found are just hints. It sounds like it's time for you to move on from the "Genealogy Giants" (Ancestry, FamilySearch, etc.) and into German records websites, libraries, and archives to find real sources that nail down the family tree. Lisa recommends the quick reference comparison guide. We have several articles and episodes at Genealogy Gems that can help you do this: Go to At the top of the home page select "German" from the "Start Learning" drop down menu That will take you to featuring our German research strategies. I'm optimistic for you because Germans are known for keeping excellent records, and I have had good luck in searching them. On this date in 1844, Samuel F.B. Morse activated the first telegraph line, sending a dots-and-dashes code message from the U.S. Capitol building to a receiver in Baltimore. By the late 1850s, the first telegraph cable had been laid across the Atlantic Ocean, and in 1861, the telegraph spanned the continental United States. Over the ensuing decades, the wires wrapped around the world. From the 1844 demonstration, telecommunications today has grown into a half-trillion dollar a year industry, and employs more than 1 million workers in over 59,000 industry establishments. Grief can be a debilitating rut if we allow it. Author and blogger Lisa Reck discusses the healing power of gratitude.Lisa Reck BioLisa Reck is an author, blogger, and coach helping people navigate through their pain to live their best life today. Her book titled Breaking Through the Storm: Transform Pain into Power Through Gratitude and Forgiveness shares the story of the tragic loss of her older brother. She is a wife and mother living on the East Coast of the United States. By day, she is Director of Communications with a large dance photography company. Her passion is to help those who may be stuck in a rut of not living out their own dreams. The Break Through Academy is a six-week course and community to help people gain clarity in life, and create a vision that is driven by gratitude. The Healing Power of GratitudeTragedy ripped apart Lisa’s family and created ripple effects that lasted for decades and spanned generations. Lisa’s story shows us that choosing an attitude of gratitude and forgiving those who have hurt us allows us to heal and move forward in life. We were not meant to wallow in our ruts of grief. That pain is meant only for a season.Choosing gratitude and forgiveness is not easy, and it takes time. You may feel like you are betraying the memory of a loved one by not keeping yourself in a state of pain. The reality is your loved one probably did not want you to hold yourself back, but the opposite. Your loved ones probably wanted you to live your best life now in honor and memory of the time you had with them.Holding onto bitterness is like taking poison and hoping the other person dies. Forgiveness is the antidote. Choosing gratitude every day is choosing to live.Links and ResourcesListen to this past episode on how adopting an Attitude of Gratitude can Change Your World.Read Lisa’s book, Breaking Through the Storm: Transform Pain into Power Through Gratitude and Forgiveness.Visit Lisa’s website and blog at LisaReck.com.Connect with UsSubscribe on iTunes (Apple Podcasts), Spotify, Stitcher, or iHeartRadio and never miss an episode.Twitter @beyondtherutFacebook Beyond the RutEmail info@beyondtherut.comMusic Attribution“Oceans Apart” is our theme song composed and performed by Scott Ian Holmes.

Lisa Cox is, quite honestly, an amazing human being. As a young woman she played national level volleyball, flew through two degrees in media and communications and was rapidly forging a hugely successful career as a copywriter in the advertising industry in Australia, travelling extensively and enjoying the high-life in her early twenties. That is until, in 2005, Lisa suffered a brain haemorrhage in Melbourne Airport which changed her life irrevocably. After a year in hospital, during which she lost her left leg, 9 of her finger tips and the toes of her right foot, Lisa spent months in rehab learning to walk, speak and live independently, before finally beginning to rebuild her career. This she has done incredibly successfully, writing for the HuffPost, the Sydney Morning Herald and many others, publishing two books, and making regular appearances both on television and as a public speaker. My favourite quote from Lisa, which I think sums things up was when she said “Yeah, I’ve for some stuff going on, but I’m pretty grateful to be kicking around. There are far worse things going on in the world. I don’t see myself as a victim, and I certainly don’t want anyone feeling sorry for me.” I don’t feel sorry for Lisa, I am amazed by her. I really loved this conversation, and what I took from it was really not to sweat the small stuff. It’s not worth it. Bad things happen to people on a spectrum, but life is what you make of it, and Lisa is SUCH a prime example of that. In this interview we discuss: * Lisa’s work as a Customer Representative, advocating for patients on committees with doctors and hospital management * Her illness in 2005 and both the physical and mental consequences of that * Her original career as a copywriter in the advertising industry, and getting back into writing from her hospital bed despite her brain damage, the amputation of her fingertips and the loss of 25% of her sight * How ‘Queer Eye For A Straight Guy’ emphasised to Lisa that 70% of women don’t like their body, and her desire to explore that after leaving hospital * The conflict between aspirational advertising and false images of perfection on social media, and how that plays into the body image narrative * The lack of disability diversity in the media, and the role of Lisa’s #VisibilityForDisability campaign along with other Instagram accounts such as Models of Diversity * How Lisa began to climb new mountains in rehab, including by setting goals for herself * Lisa’s continuing exercise and gym routines, the growth of disability sport both in the UK and Australia and increasing representation of people with disability in the sport and exercise sphere * The frequent lack of disabled access in spaces within the community, which hampers equality in the work setting. Read Lisa’s experiences on this here: https://www.huffingtonpost.com/entry/what-australian-media-forgot-in-the-diversity-debate_us_5a026438e4b0b422a3c5cd97 * How and why disability is missing from the diversity narrative, which tends to focus on gender and ethnicity * Lisa’s wish that one day it won’t be a big deal for her to appear as a model in a runway show, and her side-career in modelling both before and after her illness. * Her current project on the language used in the media surrounding disability, including educating both print and broadcast journalists on best practice in this area * Lisa’s morning routine, how she practices positivity and gratitude in her life and the support her family have given her throughout her life Links Website: www.lisacox.co Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/lisacox.co/ Twitter: https://twitter.com/LISACOX_CO Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/lisacoxwriter LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/lisa-cox-217588a/

It's Time to Sell Podcast: Strategies for 21st Century Selling
Entrepreneurs can find success in online sales and marketing, but we should not forget about the more traditional methods. When you connect with prospects face-to-face (networking), invite them for coffee, or send thank you notes through the mail, it sends a more powerful, more personal message than just connecting with them through chat. Whatever the case, if you want to be successful in sales, you need to start building and nurturing your relationships – online and offline. Today’s guest is Lisa Haydon. Lisa is the founder and President of Pivotal Coaching Inc. She is a leadership development consultant, executive coach, and mentor sought by business owners and corporations for help in achieving professional and business growth. The distinctive marker of her work is her growth mindset and execution focus. She leverages nearly 30 years' corporate experience in business, finance, leadership, change and revenue growth for her clients’ success. Click the play button to listen to the 30-minute episode. The Value of Building Offline Connections I’ve always done big, complex, B2B sales. As you well know, there are long sales cycles. They take a fair amount of resiliency; they ebb and flow. The deals that I’ve done have never been easy, but it’s all I’ve known. I was comfortable in big, complex sales cycles. In my own business, there’s a couple of things I would share. While the sales process was comfortable, the market and taking my own brand to market has been harder. People have very distinctive views on the impact of executive coaching in the corporate world, so I have to overcome those perceptions. One of my big focuses is around using coaching programs to support the results for corporations, which is a little different. Most times, for corporations, it would be a one-to-one. For example, you would hire me to work with one of your team, and I’m really trying to get a program approach. So it’s a different product that I’m taking to market, and that makes it a little harder. “I lean a lot on my relationships, so I have a good network. That’s been invaluable. Referrals are huge. The testaments of my work and the clients who have experienced my work are a big, important part.” I also do cold-calling. If I'm going to work with businesses and their leaders around true growth, as you well know, building existing relationships is more comfortable. Selling your products – when you do cold start to origination, that is a very distinct style. I do that as well because I think it’s good skills practice for both myself, but in the work that I provide my clients as well. Getting In Touch With Your Prospects I have a leads list, and I would say I’m a little more traditional. There’s some people who use a lot of the digital marketing, and for me, in the big corporations that I’m cold-calling into, I still believe that you have to get in there on a personal basis. Part of that is I know that if I can get that conversation, that’s going to be where the difference is made. I do an email outreach, I do the phone call, I do the connection on LinkedIn. As you would well know, the success rate in working through a lead list is low, and it’s always hard on the ego, but there’s been some good conversations that have come out of that. You just have to try; you just don’t know. Turn “Maybe” Into A Definite “Yes” or “No” The “maybe” place is really hard. When people drag out the maybe’s, it takes your energy and your effort from other things. I’ve been calling on relationship-based opportunities, and because of that, some of my relationships don’t want to say ‘no’ to me and they feel like they’re going to hurt my feelings. I’ve now gotten very direct and say, “Look, please don’t feel like you have to say yes or maybe with me. If it’s a fit, great. If not, that’s okay. It doesn’t change our relationship; I get that. But don’t feel like you have to give me hope.” Mentions Connect with Lisa on LinkedIn and Instagram Website: https://www.pivotalcoachingservices.com/

On the trail, is confidence good, bad, or something in between? We talk with Lisa Michelle, a woman who lost her hiking partner tragically while hiking solo. We discover how Lisa is able to reconcile still doing what she loves when there's risk involved. Lisa doesn’t know the full details of her friend’s death (allegedly she fell while hiking in a foreign country), but she knows that her friend felt most confident (maybe too confident) in her hiking boots with a pack on. But is it OK for Lisa to still feel good about backpacking solo? Read Lisa's essay at www.she-explores.com/podcast. Thanks to our sponsor, Oru Kayak.
