Il a grandi en Centrafrique, traversé les guerres, et choisi de répondre par la créativité. Teddy Kossoko, 30 ans, utilise les jeux vidéo pour raconter l'Afrique autrement. Mais créer ne suffit plus. L'entrepreneur installé à Toulouse poursuit désormais un objectif plus vaste : bâtir un marché du jeu vidéo africain. Pour lui, il faut aussi pouvoir vendre, localement. Portrait d'un entrepreneur engagé. La mission de Teddy Kossoko : reconnecter les Africains à leur histoire et casser les clichés. Une ambition qui le pousse à créer Masseka Game Studio en 2018. « "Masseka" dans ma langue natale, Sango, veut dire "jeune, jeunesse". Pour moi Masseka, c'est un moyen de raconter l'Afrique. D'abord aux Africains, car la plupart des Africains ne connaissent pas le continent africain. Ensuite raconter l'Afrique au reste du monde, pour que les gens puissent connaître l'Afrique au-delà de la colonisation et de l'esclavage. Qui colle aujourd'hui à la peau des Africains, on n'est pas que cela », raconte-t-il.Ses jeux s'inspirent des cultures africaines. Kissoro, par exemple, revisite l'awalé, ce jeu de stratégie traditionnel, pour en faire un outil de paix. « C'est un jeu avec des pions et des cases. À l'époque, je voulais promouvoir la paix entre deux royaumes », se souvient-il. La Centrafrique à l'époque est en guerre, et Teddy Kossoko choisit la créativité comme arme politique. Le succès est au rendez-vous : plus de 50 000 téléchargements. Puis vient La Légende de Mulu, un jeu d'aventure pédagogique, mais un problème persiste. Ses jeux se vendent partout sauf en Afrique.Les grandes plateformes comme Google imposent des cartes bancaires et empêchent les créateurs africains de vendre localement. Pour contourner ces blocages, Teddy Kossoko lance Gara, une boutique en ligne pensée pour l'Afrique. Elle centralise les contenus et utilise le mobile money pour simplifier l'achat. « L'idée, c'est : j'arrive, j'ai 100 francs CFA, je paie avec mon mobile money et j'accède aux contenus. Ça aide les créateurs à générer des revenus », explique-t-il.Mais pour lui, l'enjeu dépasse l'économie. « J'ai vécu deux guerres. La première guerre que j'ai vécue, j'ai vu d'enfants soldats venir chez nous et tout casser. Je me suis posé la question : pourquoi sont-ils devenus des enfants soldats ?, s'interroge-t-il. Quand tu travailles et que tu as un emploi, tu ne vas pas prendre les armes. Il faut qu'on arrive à avoir suffisamment des chaînes de valeur pour que les jeunes eux-mêmes génèrent des revenus et vivent de ça. »Derrière ses jeux, Teddy Kossoko défend un combat : bâtir une industrie capable de créer des emplois. Pendant deux ans, de nombreuses femmes ont vécu l'horreur des viols collectifs et des mutilations génitales durant la guerre au Tigré, en Éthiopie. Certaines ont été réduites en esclavage sexuel pendant des jours par les troupes érythréennes et éthiopiennes occupantes. Aujourd'hui rejetées par leur famille, elles ont besoin d'une prise en charge médicale physique et psychologique en urgence pour soigner les nombreuses pathologies dont elles souffrent, conséquences des agressions. Mais les moyens manquent pour faire face à ce désastre social tabou.  De notre correspondante de retour de Mekele,Assises sur la terrasse du jardin verdoyant de l'association Hywiet, la fondatrice Meseret Hadush écoute une jeune femme lui parler, puis la serre dans ses bras. C'est une survivante comme on les appelle au Tigré. Il y a trois ans, pendant la guerre, sept soldats érythréens sont entrés chez elle, ont tué son mari sous ses yeux avant de la violer : « Ils ont introduit du métal dans mon utérus et cela a créé une infection. Des médecins me l'ont enlevé, mais je continue de saigner, et psychologiquement ça ne va pas. Je n'ai plus rien pour vivre. C'est pour ça que je suis venue ici. »Son récit ressemble à des milliers d'autres : Meseret en a recueilli près de 5 000. Mais la stigmatisation empêche les victimes de se manifester. « Le plus gros problème, c'est que leur état empire, car elles n'osent pas sortir pour aller chercher leur traitement et pour avoir de l'aide. Elles ont peur qu'on les repère, car si ça se sait, elles seront maltraitées par les gens. »Près de 15 % d'entre elles infectées par le VIHLes ONG sensibilisent les communautés et les leaders religieux pour permettre aux victimes de réintégrer la société. Il y a urgence à les prendre en charge. Le nombre de victimes de viols pendant la guerre au Tigré est estimé à plus de 120 000 par les hôpitaux tigréens. Selon les chiffres de Meseret, 15 % d'entre elles ont été infectées par le VIH. « Elles ont besoin d'un accompagnement spécial. Car quand elles prennent leurs médicaments elles doivent manger pour avoir quelque chose dans l'estomac. Je leur donne de la nourriture, autant que je peux. »Environ 70 % des établissements de santé ont été endommagés pendant la guerre. Dans toute la région, un seul centre spécialisé dans les violences faites aux femmes est en service à Mekele. C'est un petit bâtiment vétuste, aux pièces étroites, dirigé par le docteur Sœur Mulu : « La majorité des traitements dont elles ont besoin en priorité, sont achetés dans le privé, nous ne les avons pas dans notre centre. La demande et l'offre de médicaments disponibles ici ne sont pas comparables. »Priorité à « obtenir justice », avant même de « recevoir de la nourriture »Chaque jour, 50 femmes viennent ici pour être soignées. Yirgelem s'y rend souvent pour échanger avec Sœur Mulu. Experte pour la Commission d'enquête sur le génocide au Tigré, elle répertorie tous les témoignages. « Nous leur avons demandé ce qu'elles choisiraient en premier entre recevoir de la nourriture, une assistance médicale ou obtenir justice. Et la majorité d'entre elles ont répondu qu'elles avaient besoin de justice en premier. »Les récits recueillis sont authentifiés et conservés pour appliquer la justice transitionnelle. Much like every other person on the planet, you will also make mistakes. But what matters for your entrepreneurial journey is to find a lesson in every failure. They are the most valuable opportunities for growth and improvement. (17:55) Surround yourself with supportive people. A strong support system is one of the key factors for success in life. That can be your family member, friend, or partner, but it can also be a mentor. So, find someone who will hold you accountable, push you to new levels, and help you achieve your goals. With that kind of support, everything is possible. (19:35) Let go of fear. The best things in life are on the other side of fear. Despite the fact that fear is a natural human emotion, you can't let it get in the way of your goals. So, instead of just ignoring these anxious feelings, learn to use them to your advantage. Sit with your fears to uncover what's truly underneath. Then, when you're ready, take small steps outside of your comfort zone because that's how the most rewarding experiences will happen. (32:16) Kanessa's best advice for entrepreneurs:“Sometimes people are quick to just say, ‘Just work hard, work smart, whatever.' It's not just that. About today's guest: With more than a decade's experience in the wine trade, Victoria Mulu-Munywoki is the first Kenyan native sommelier and the founder of online store CELLAR254. She has diverse international corporate experience, lived and worked in six countries and is an independent wine consultant with the perfect combination of global expertise and extensive local knowledge. She works closely with producers and importers to create and grow the market for wines in Kenya and curated the wine lists for many of the top hotels, camps, lodges and restaurants across the country, where she also trains and mentors both staff and aspiring sommeliers. In 2017 Victoria launched the elite, Capital Club Wine Club and also co-runs the ABSA Social Wine Club. Through these clubs, she creates experiential and tourism opportunities for members; most recently on a trips to Spain & Italy. In this line, she also curates bespoke corporate and private wine events; focused on enhancing dining experiences, wine education and networking. In an effort to spread the gospel of wine to the general public, she started a weekly Wine Wednesday segment on Kenya's CapitalFM radio station. During the recent pandemic, with this veritable voice on all things wine, Victoria founded the “IN YOUR CELLAR” series, an online webinar that hosted 35 winemakers and experts from around the globe.
