What is the state of Christian colleges today? Is a Christian college education worth the money? How should parents evaluate a given Christian college to determine if it's biblically sound? What are some signs that a school is going progressive? These are just a few of the questions I discuss with my guest today, Dr. Everett Piper. Dr. Piper was president of Oklahoma Wesleyan University for 17 years, during which time he led his school from relative obscurity to a position of national recognition and influence. He presently serves as a contributing columnist for The Washington Times and his commentary on religion, education, leadership and politics is featured in local and national media outlets coast to coast. Dr. Piper is also the author of the national best-selling book, Not a Daycare: The Devastating Consequences of Abandoning Truth.Website: dreverettpiper.com Facebook: www.facebook.com/dreverettpiper

Greetings,We are so excited to host guest Global Partners missionary to Cambodia, Collette Nybakken, for worship tomorrow at 10am.While attending Oklahoma Wesleyan University, Collette felt the strong call on her life to serve God long-term overseas. She had the opportunity to spend the summer in 2016 serving alongside Global Partners missionaries in Eswatini, where God confirmed her call into missions. After many years of prayer and discernment, Collette was introduced to the work taking place in Cambodia. She knew immediately after conversations with a few of the team members serving there that God was calling her to join the mission there. Her heart it to see that the lost be found, and that Gods light would shine through Cambodia. For more info on how to partner with Collette, visit her Global Partners webpage here and meet her in person tomorrow morning! -Pastor David

This week's guest is a direct challenge to how many of us are living our education lives in 2023. Believing is hard. Optimism is something we can switch on with students, when we need to maintain our authority in the classroom, but we struggle to live in optimism. Look, we get it. Teachers are entering yet another school year of unrealistic pressure, political attacks, and dwindling capacity to teach our students and live joyfully. Rebecka Peterson has an idea for all of us. The Christian Outlook – August 12, 2022 Don Kroah talks with Dr. Everett Piper, professor at Oklahoma Wesleyan University, about the prevailing trends in education, highlighting the disconnect between coddling students and preparing them for real-world challenges, drawing parallels between the decline in educational quality and the societal consequences of such trends. Bill Bunkley invites Jeff Schadt, founder of Revive Family, to share his book, The One Rule Home, and how strained parent-child relationships, rather than just external influences, can drive kids towards social media and video games. Schadt underscores the potential for improved connections by adjusting parenting approaches to bridge the gap. Eric Metaxas talks with John MacArthur, pastor at Grace Community Church, about his documentary, The Essential Church, which details his church's defiance of COVID restrictions, emphasizing their legal battle for First Amendment rights. They also discuss the importance of strong leadership and courage in defending biblical truth amid cultural influences. Join us today as guest, Wanda Littrell, shares the steps to create an Effective Hospitality Team. Wanda describes herself as a wife, mother, Mimi, pastor, and lover of God. She is passionate for the Church, and contends in prayer for the next Mighty Move of God, and for the World to be saved. She has a bachelor's degree in Organizational Management and Ethics from Oklahoma Wesleyan University. She has written several Bible studies and she and her husband, Steve, write devotional books for their congregation. They pastor a church together in Madill, OK, where they live with their little dog, Gracie. Why is a Hospitality Team Important? The hospitality team starts at the front door and many times will be a deciding factor if a first time guest will be a returning visitor. It is important to greet everyone in love and connect with them in the first few minutes. Some research shows the decision to come back is made in the first 10 minutes. Most of the time that is before the music ever starts. We need to be intentional in our efforts from the moment they drive into the parking lot. What does a good Hospitality Team look like? From the moment a visitor or long time member steps into the doors they should be met by a greeter who is loving and excited to see them. It is great to have a long time member of the community who would recognize newcomers. It is also beneficial to have a husband and wife team which helps improve connections. A key element is having a way to get contact info from visitors and having a system in place to follow up with them. Another important piece is to have a gift or at least a brochure or handout that gives the service times and program information. Steps of creating a Hospitality Team Prayer Invite everyone to a training day Offer a sign-up sheet for designated areas (greeters, ushers, coffee/snacks, welcome gifts) Create a connect card to get contact info for visitors Have a handout to share programs and service times Create a System to follow up with visitors and those who haven't been in awhile. *It is a great idea to preach a sermon series on loving one another before the training day. How can implementing Hospitality help us prepare for Revival? It increases expectations - The first Sunday after training the people in hospitality the Lord brought 5 new visitors. The people were so excited and they were ready. It prepares us to welcome EVERYONE as if welcoming Christ. It creates a heart change when you become a welcoming congregation. Makes it easier to go out into the world (beyond the church walls) to share the love of God. What can we do as individuals if there is no team? Everyone can be intentional about greeting newcomers and making everyone feel welcome. Spend at least 3 minutes visiting with someone you don't know well. Notice the 10' diameter around you and connect with those in your circle. Notice when someone is absent from that circle and reach out to let them know they were missed. Welcoming is the Job of Everyone Look around. Smile. Shake a Hand. Invite Someone to Church. Invite Someone to Sunday School. Invite Someone to a program or small group. Make a CONNECTION, and then CONNECT Others. GUEST CONNECTIONS CARD 10-FOOT RULE: Take responsibility to welcome those within 10 Feet of you, especially those who may be alone. 3-Minute Rule: Spend at least 3 minutes before and after worship talking to someone you don't know very well, whether they are new to the congregation, or a long-timer. Notice Everyone Introduce yourself, learn each person's name Introduce guests to others Offer a warm and sincere goodbye Invite people to come again Be wise in the way you act toward outsiders, make the most of every opportunity. The House Judiciary Committee began their first hearing of the 118th Congress on Wednesday, addressing the crisis at the southern US border and the dangerous impact of fentanyl in America. Testimonies from two Texas county judges and an Arizona border sheriff were able to speak to the flaws in the current US border policy, but all the congresspeople at the hearing made note of the perils of fentanyl after the testimony of Brandon Dunn. Brandon and his wife Janel Rodriguez co-founded the Forever 15 Project after their son Noah died last year from a tragic fentanyl overdose. They join the Rundown to explain what impact they hope Wednesday's testimony will have, how they see border issues as a hazard when it comes to fentanyl, and what kind of change their non-profit is fighting for. New Mexico prosecutors have formally filed involuntary manslaughter charges against Alec Baldwin, as well as the armorer who oversaw props and weapons on the set of the film, "Rust." The actor and producer fatally shot cinematographer Halyna Hutchins and wounded director Joel Souza during production. Although Baldwin maintains his innocence, a Santa Fe judge will determine if there is enough probable cause to proceed with a trial based on Tuesday's court filing. FOX News Senior National Correspondent William La Jeunesse joins the Rundown to discuss the details that court documents reveal about the case, the safety protocols that weren't followed during the production, and what questions about the case still remain. Pastor Jeffrey was able to sit down with Rev. Dr. James Dunn, the current president of Oklahoma Wesleyan University in Bartlesville Oklahoma. They talk about higher education for Nowata area youth, what OKWU has to offer that other state schools don't, and what goes into forming good people in the future. Dr. Mike Fullingim felt the specific call to mission service while hearing a sermon from Jeremiah 5:19: “…you shall serve foreigners in a land that is not yours.” But as he looks back, he can see that even as a young boy God was drawing his heart toward missions and people different from him. Twelve years after hearing that sermon, Mike and his family went as missionaries to Papua New Guinea. Dr. Mike and his wife, Barbara, served eight years on the field, with a break between terms for him to pursue further linguistics education. In 1987, Dr. Mike was finishing his PhD in linguistics and anthropology. After completing his doctoral program, offers for teaching jobs flooded in. But his heart was still in PNG. As he sought God's will, and considered his children's educational needs, Dr. Mike took a one-year teaching job at Oklahoma Wesleyan University. As he wrestled with what direction God was leading, Dr. Mike read a quote from Dwight L. Moody: “It's better to train ten people than to do the work of ten people.” Today, 35 years after signing that “one-year contract,” Dr. Mike is still training future missionaries at Oklahoma Wesleyan University. His former students—more than 200—are serving today as gospel workers around the world—including hostile and restricted nations where Christians are persecuted. One of his passions is helping students develop tools to learn language—a key factor in long-term fruitful service on the mission field. Listen as Dr. Mike shares about his missionary calling, how he wrestled with the painful decision not to return to PNG, and how we can pray for missionaries currently serving around the world—and for God to call forth more workers to go into ripe harvest fields, even in dangerous places.

What You Need to Know is Andrew Breitbart was right; we are at war. If you look at the treatment of January 6 prisoners, the conviction of Steve Bannon, and the ways in which big tech companies like Amazon and Google keep you from seeing any conservative media, it's hard not to realize that the left truly is at war with the American citizen. They are not going to stop, and we need to stand up against them. Dr. Everett Piper is an author and former president of Oklahoma Wesleyan University. Dr. Piper joins Ed to discuss his recent column The Church of Gaia: Elevating the planet over people. Dr. Piper discusses the ways that farming and private property provide the foundations for a free society, and the ways in which the elites target farmers under the guise of climate change. Dr. Piper exposes the lies of climate change coming from politicians and the anti-human agenda of climate change advocates. Jim Hollingsworth is an author and columnist at the American Thinker. Jim joins Ed to discuss his book Abortion Compassion and the post Roe v. Wade world. They also discuss Jim's recent column Public Education continues to fail us about how the liberals have completely failed to provide quality education and the prospect of fixing the public schools. The media has always gone after Clarence Thomas, and today Congress is going after him too. They go after him because they don't like him, and they don't like him because he is a strong fighter for conservative values. Leave Clarence Thomas and his wife alone. This is now way that anyone should be treating a Supreme Court Justice.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

In this episode, Josh McNall interviews Dalene Fisher about fiction, faith, and female agency. Dalene Fisher (PhD, Kent) is Assistant Provost and Dean of Arts and Sciences at Oklahoma Wesleyan University. Her new book (Resisting the Marriage Plot) explores the work of four beloved female novelists: Jane Austen, Anne Brontë, Elizabeth Gaskell, and Mary Wollstonecraft. Each of these authors appealed to the Christian faith through their heroines to challenge cultural expectations regarding women, especially in terms of marriage. Although Christianity has all too often been distorted to oppress women, Fisher demonstrates that in the hands of these novelists and through the actions of their characters, it could also be a transformative force to liberate women.

Less acknowledged, however, has been the role of the Christian faith in such works. In this latest volume in IVP Academic's Studies in Theology and the Arts series, literary scholar Dalene Joy Fisher explores the work of four beloved female novelists: Jane Austen, Anne Brontë, Elizabeth Gaskell, and Mary Wollstonecraft. Each of these authors, she argues, appealed to the Christian faith through their heroines to challenge cultural expectations regarding women, especially in terms of marriage. Although Christianity has all too often been used to oppress women, Fisher demonstrates that in the hands of these novelists and through the actions of their characters, it could also be a transformative force to liberate women.About Marbeth Skwarczynski:Though born on the east coast, I spent most of my life in the American Southwest, eventually settling in California where my husband and I raised two sons. Later we welcomed two fantastic daughters-in-law and four grandchildren into our family. After teaching history and literature for eighteen years, I resigned to write full-time. My preferred genre is Christian contemporary fiction. I keep my characters grounded in the real world and the real problems that Bible believers face today. While they grow, learn, and find possible solutions to their issues, my characters must also deal with the detritus of the past. Living well today doesn't mean that yesterday is erased. I write what I know, either first-hand or through close observation, injecting the joy, happiness, and humor that comes with spiritual freedom and love.Purchase Marbeth's book, Plague of Lies, here: https://amzn.to/3FtIjk5Support the Show:https://www.patreon.com/preacherboysPurchase a Preacher Boys shirt, mask, sticker, or other merch to rep the show! https://www.teepublic.com/user/preacher-boys-podcast________________Find more stories regarding the IFB movement by visiting:– preacherboysdoc.com– https://www.facebook.com/preacherboysdoc/– https://twitter.com/preacherboysdoc– https://www.instagram.com/preacherboysdoc/To connect with a community who share the Eric Skwarczynski and the Preacher Boys Podcast mission to expose abuse in the IFB, join the OFFICIAL Preacher Boys Facebook Group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/1403898676438188Support this podcast at — https://redcircle.com/preacher-boys-podcast/donationsAdvertising Inquiries: https://redcircle.com/brandsPrivacy & Opt-Out: https://redcircle.com/privacy

I hope our conversation about the beauty and power of the biblical story encourages you and helps you put the Bible together.

Today, I'm pleased to share with you my conversation with the president of Toccoa Falls College, Dr. Robert Myers. Colleges are the recipients of hundreds of millions of donor dollars every year. They are also on the front lines of many of today's most important cultural battles. They are powerful tools for shaping culture – both for good or for ill – and they are often defining moments in the lives of individual students, who are trying to decide who they are and what they want to be when they leave college. In a time of demographic change, when we are seeing fewer kids in the college-aged age group, and technological advances – an era when it is much easier to take advantage of distance education, we are seeing a lot of colleges suffer. There are about 4000 colleges in this country, and I have heard statistics that suggest that as many as a third of them could close over the next decade. Of course, some colleges are thriving, and a few colleges have had the experience of staring into the abyss of financial ruin and then stepping back from that precipice. Toccoa Falls College in northeast Georgia is one of those schools. It has come back from the brink of ruin twice, in fact. Once, in 1977, when a dam break and subsequent flood swept through the college – exactly 43 years ago last week. 39 people were killed and more than 60 injured in that disaster. The second time Toccoa Falls College averted disaster was in the years following the 2008-2009 financial crisis. And the man who gets a great deal of the credit for that turnaround is my guest today. Robert Myers has a varied career. He started it as a police officer – first as an officer on patrol and rising through the ranks to detective. He transitioned to higher education nearly 30 years ago and has served at Palm Beach Atlantic University, Oklahoma Wesleyan University. He now serves as only the 7th president in the school's more than 100-year history. I had this conversation with Bob Myers before the COVID pandemic, but for a variety of reasons we have held on to this conversation till now. I did this interview at his office on the campus of Toccoa Falls College. Here at MinistryWatch we bring you news about Christian ministries, as well as the latest in charity and philanthropy, all designed to help us become better stewards of the resources God has entrusted to us. The producers for today's program are Rich Roszel and Steve Gandy. Here at MinistryWatch, we get database, technical, and editorial support from Cathy Goddard, Stephen DuBarry, Christina Darnell, and Casey Sudduth. Until next time, may God bless you.
