We've got the fabulous Parvesh Cheena here, once again on the gaysian movie beat! This time around, it's Andrew Ahn's THE WEDDING BANQUET, which reimagines and modernizes the core story of a nearly unseeable 1993 Ang Lee film (maybe try your local library?). It's a complicated relationship comedy between two queer couples, and two of their matriarchs. Plus, we choose which classic films we'd like to see get a queer remake (besides all of them). What's GoodAlonso - TCM FestivalDrea - Drag Race finale, TV as a group activityParvesh - More Drag RaceIfy - Temptation Island (see also: Montoya Por Favor)ITIDICSINNERS is the first horror movie to receive an ‘A' Cinema ScoreWicked's VOD “Bonus Features” Are Getting Tons of PlaysStaff PicksDrea - The Half of ItAlonso - Art for EverybodyParv - A Nice Indian BoyIfy - Crouching Tiger Hidden DragonSee Parvesh in Trauma Play at IAMA Follow us on BlueSky, Facebook, or InstagramWithDrea ClarkAlonso DuraldeIfy NwadiweProduced by Marissa FlaxbartSr. Producer Laura Swisher

Star of stage and screen, film and television, voice over and live action, Parvesh Cheena's list of credits is expansive -- and you've almost certainly seen or heard him in SOMETHING (Barbershop? Outsourced? Crazy Ex-Girlfriend? Mythic Quest? The Mandalorian?). Parvesh has carved out a place for himself as a character actor -- a position that has at times been a little lonely, and a little strange. As for seeing himself on screen? Even as a kid, he looked to some of the biggest, weirdest characters of them all: Danny Devito's Penguin in BATMAN RETURNS and Mike Myers as Dr. Evil in the AUSTIN POWERS movies.Michelle Pfeiffer whip stuntNiecy Nash-Betts's Emmys acceptance speech***With Jordan Crucchiola and Parvesh Cheena
The Non Drinking Buddies talk to actor Parvesh Cheena about useful tools for staying alcohol-free, harm reduction and cannabis usage. Note: When discussing Michael Pollan and hallucinogenic plants, Anne incorrectly mentioned “Paul Mescal” as a smokable plant. She meant “peyote” which sounds NOTHING like Paul Mescal who is an Irish actor. Maybe she meant “mescaline” which is a psychoactive alkaloid in peyote, but probably not. She probably just meant Paul Mescal.Mocktail Recipe: "How You Saw Coo-cumber"One ounce lime juiceAdd 3/4 ounce simple syrupMuddle three slices of cucumberShake with icePour into glassTop with seltzerGarnish with a sprig of mintHelpful Non-Drinking Tools:Quit Like a Woman - https://www.amazon.com/Quit-Like-Woman-Radical-Obsessed/dp/1984825070/ref=sr_1_1?crid=1N7H16U27H9P&keywords=quit+like+a+woman&qid=1705424949&sprefix=quit+like+a+woman%2Caps%2C230&sr=8-1This Naked Mind - https://www.amazon.com/This-Naked-Mind-Discover-Happiness/dp/0525537236/ref=sr_1_1?crid=27MC6G3CZABCC&keywords=this+naked+mind&qid=1705424971&sprefix=this+naked+mind%2Caps%2C152&sr=8-1Sobriety Uncensored Podcast - https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/sobriety-uncensored/id1650860909Reddit: r/stopdrinkingInstagram: @nondrinkingbuddiesYouTube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC0_Z_CJZ3USL7EK6pQ09huQ

Jeff and Phil welcome actor Parvesh Cheena and writer Liz Hsiao Lan Alper to discuss the ongoing SAG-AFTRA and WGA strikes, which have brought the entertainment industry to a standstill. Parvesh Cheena has been in shows like Outsourced and Crazy Ex-Girlfriend. He is also a prolific voice over actor and beard grower. This conversation was eerily prescient, as we discussed the topic of masks and the very American decision not to wear them. I loved talking to Parvesh!!Support the show (http://patreon.com/lightersidepodcast)
You may know Parvesh Cheena from the criminally underrated Outsourced, or from Crazy Ex Girlfriend, or from one of the many other roles he has performed/voices he has provided. What you probably don't know is how amazingly intelligent, thoughtful, and just generally chill he is. This conversation was like a badly needed Xanax, and I know you will enjoy it as much as I did. Check out Parvesh and the rest of the cast of Outsourced performing a live read of the pilot episode of the show in order to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the show's launch. Will Armstrong and Wendy Rosoff met up Downtown LA to see the new musical Found Starring Jonah Platt and Jordan Kai Burnett. This IAMA Theater production is playing at the Los Angeles Theater Center until March 23! Listen in as Will and Wendy talk with cast members and discuss their experience before, during intermission, and after the show. Special thanks to Jonah Platt, Jordan Kai Burnett and Parvesh Cheena for taking the time to speak with us! About the show: Found isn’t just based on a true story — it’s based on hundreds of them! When lost and broke Davy, played by Jonah Platt (Fiyero in Wicked on Broadway, NBC’s Jesus Christ Superstar Live with John Legend) happens to find a peculiar note meant for someone else on the windshield of his car, it sparks an outlandish idea to collect the hilarious and revealing notes and letters that surround us every day. Along with friends Denise (Jordan Kai Burnett, seen in the national tour of Seussical and a Scenie award-winner for the title role in Scissorhands at Rockwell Table & Stage) and Mikey D. (Mike Millan of Broadway’s Escape to Margaritaville, national tours of Sister Act and Piece of My Heart), he’s quickly swept up into a wild, comedic mission to share them with the world. Found is a raucous exploration of human connection and the beautiful weirdness in all of us. Our pilot this time is Small Town Love by Sarah Haskins and Emily Halpern (Trophy Wife, Booksmart). Small Town Love is about a sparring mother and daughter in rural Michigan who are forced to lean on each other when they become pregnant at the same time. Listen to Andrew’s interview with Sarah and Emily to hear about how the first script they wrote together, Booksmart, took eleven years to reach the screen; what Emily learned from working with David Mamet; why they made the transition from film to TV; and how you can tell when an idea will actually make a good TV show. Enjoy! Small Town Love stars Busy Phillips as Annette, Shannon Woodward as Fanny, Asif Ali as Curtis, Paul Adelstein as George, Rob Huebel as John, Parvesh Cheena as Mr. Karr, Nicole Sullivan as Reality Woman/Ruthie, Liz Jenkins as Beth, Ali Ghandour as Pimply Teen Manager, Greg Santos as Rude Customer, Syd Steinberg as Waiter/Bartender/Store Manager, and Andrew Reich with stage directions. This week’s episode is called Lenny’s Doing Great and His Family’s Terrific written by Alex Cuthbertson & Matt Fusfeld (New Girl, Community). The log-line for this one one goes something like: a young man who’s been helicopter-parented within an inch of his life reconnects with his selfish, absentee grandfather—in the process bringing an estranged family back together in ways no one wanted, but everyone needed. Listen to Andrew’s interview with Alex and Matt for a fun conversation about their real grandfathers whom inspired this pilot, how they got their first gig on American Dad, their keys to writing together as a team, and so much more! Enjoy! Lenny’s Doing Great and His Family’s Terrific stars Jack McGee as Lenny Murphy, Parvesh Cheena as Reno, Busy Phillips as Gloria, Drew Tarver as Evan Murphy, Rob Huebel as Marc, Sabrina Jalees as Sabrina, Nicole Sullivan as Joanna, Liz Jenkins as Regina, Greg Santos as Teddy/Waiter/Student/Officiant, Sydney Steinberg as Customer/Waitress, Ali Ghandour as Insane Looking Man/Police Captain, and Andrew Reich with stage directions. Today's Guest: Parvesh Cheena, actor, "Outsourced" Anisha Nagarajan and Parvesh Cheena, stars of NBC's 'Outsourced' Mr. Media is recorded live before a studio audience of people who may think they can top my Whack-a-Gupta score of 725… in the new new media capitol of the world… St. Petersburg, Florida! A few things I learned about “Gupta,” perhaps the nuttiest sitcom character on network TV in years: • He can’t drive. Not a bike, not a car. • He likes to watch. His boss. In bed. Sleeping. Not sleeping. • He loves the break room cookies. Sorry, Madhuri. Order from Amazon.com by clicking the DVD cover above! • He looks a lot like his glasses-wearing cousin. • He knows how to wear a giant ear and spy on his bosses. • And he can break into Bollywood-style song and dance at a moment’s notice. When “Outsourced” debuted on NBC last September, I have no doubt that Gupta – played to perfection by actor Parvesh Cheena – was one of the characters that set the tongues of TV critics wagging. He was a stereotype and not a good one at that they thought! But given some space to become a three-dimensional figure, Gupta was discovered to be the essence of sweetness, with a few necessary quirks. He could just as easily have been Kenneth the Page on “30 Rock” or even Creed on “The Office.” PARVESH CHEENA podcast excerpt: "I secretly always thought Gupta would one day be with Madhuri in a spinoff: 'Madhuri Tolerates Gupta.' As opposed to 'Joanie Loves Chachi.'" And as the actor playing Gupta, Cheena – like his goofy, guileless counterparts on other NBC Thursday night shows – had to let go of all inhibitions. He succeeded magnificently. Parvesh Cheena (Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, Outsourced) works ALL the time. He does not stop. And he's a sweetheart who seamlessly moves through all social circles with grace and joy. Parvesh stops by Headgum HQ to sit down with Utkarsh to talk about over-complimenting in Hollywood, the different ways in which they process great performances and Utkarsh's come up in NYC theater. Then Utkarsh asks Parvesh how he feels about being on the NBC sitcom 'OutSourced' and whether or not it set Indian people back in Hollywood. Then finally Utkarsh asks Parvesh about how and when he came out to his family and how being gay has affected both his career and personal life in hollywood. A joyfully honest discussion about theater life, sexuality and society. DO NOT MISS HISTORY BEING MADE!!!
Actor and producer Parvesh Cheena and Christopher talk about Parvesh's living perspective to the life of a working actor. Parvesh has been in countless television roles and movies for over a decade. He gained notoriety for his roles in the Barbershop movies, NBC’s Outsourced and Transformers: Rescue Bots. In addition to his busy acting schedule, you’ll soon see him in season 2 of Crazy Ex-girlfriend, coming this Fall. This is a candid conversation about Parvesh's drive to act, balancing roles we want vs. ones we need to take, the current state of diversity and inclusion in Hollywood, and even more. In this discussion episode about our time with Parvesh Cheena, we start of with a realization I had about my energy in the interview. Akaash and I discuss this sense that I was seeking something specific from the interview and not allowing it to just develop. I come to understand that I was looking for Parvesh to become an advocate for something that may no longer need it. We explore the root of that and discuss the possible reality that we can the world is a much better place for the gay community and we should become excited for this future generation that will guide us into a space of further openness and compassion. We then continue talking about how we want our American Desi community to be inclusive and that the politics of exclusion should not be tolerated. We then move into community and discuss the tweets and emails we have received. One of them harkened back to our live panel at USC and gave us the opportunity to talk about overlapping communities and how this concept can free some of the ethical pressure that surrounds the intrinsic exclusion that occurs when a community is formed. We can create an American Desis community that is centered around our “desi-ness” because there are other communities that focus on religion or dance or sports. We also get an email from a white man about race that triggers some conflict for Akaash, and then later Arjun makes some stupid jokes and says “hoes.” Listen. we called it swings and misses for a reason folks. Listen and enjoy!
You may know him from his role as Gupta on NBC’s Outsourced; or maybe you know him from his time in theatre; or maybe you just know him because he's the kind of guy that everybody knows. We know him as all of the above, but especially our guest. This week we are so glad Parvesh Cheena could come sit down with us and chat. Now on this show we have had interviews that were more formal and guests that were casual, but Parvesh was easily our most relaxed. He is truly an open and generous guy who spoke with us about anything and everything that came up in our conversation. But just because it was relaxed, doesn’t mean we didn’t have some true debate. The episode starts off with us on different sides of the plane regarding community. Parvesh advocates for a larger sense of community: a global community. Akaash strongly believes in the standpoint of a Desi/American Desi community. I, Arjun, am still figuring it out and kinda play both sides. But we begin by diving deeply into unpacking what a global community means. Parvesh is far too interesting and expansive for us to simply stay on one topic so we move into technology, traveling to India, music we grew up on, proper ways of cuddling, and theatre, all before we reached talking about how his homosexuality affected him in this community and his journey growing up. I truly don’t want to say much more than that because I want you guys to just sit back and enjoy. I hope you have as much fun listening as we did doing this episode. As always we are going to do our discussion in a few days so get at us with your thoughts, we love talking about them. Enjoy.
