Mark is a drummer based in London. His credits include Ed Sheeran, Tom Jones, Leona Lewis, Olly Murs and Pixie Lott. He's also worked on film soundtracks such as This Is England and Rocketman. When he's not behind the drums, you'll likely find Mark out on the boat working for the RNLI. We didn't really discuss this during our chat, but it's certainly a very admirable thing to be doing in his time off!Amongst other things, we discussed getting advice from Ricky Lawson, the power of saying yes, and not worrying too much about everyone else's opinion. If you enjoy this podcast, please take a second to leave a nice rating or review. Gary Husband is one of a rare breed of musicians in that his expression is divided equally in his capacity as a drummer and a pianist and keyboardist of international repute. His classical roots, his quest and development in the improvisational, jazz and jazz/fusion areas – not to mention his tenure in the pop, rock, funk and blues circuits – are all evident inside Gary's distinct and far-reaching musical personality. His solo album and DVD output has also reinforced his status as a critically acclaimed writer and arranger in the contemporary music world. For close to four decades Gary has worked alongside a vast and eclectic range of celebrated musicians including John McLaughlin, Allan Holdsworth, Jeff Beck, Jack Bruce (Cream), Gary Moore (Thin Lizzy), British pop/funk band Level 42, Billy Cobham, Al Jarreau, Mike Stern (Miles Davis), John Wetton (King Crimson), Chris Squire (Yes), Andy Summers (The Police), Steve Hackett (Genesis), Robin Trower (Procol Harum), and with producers Sir George Martin (Beatles), Trevor Horn (Grace Jones & Art of Noise), Quincy Jones (Michael Jackson), Jerry Hey and James Guthrie (Pink Floyd). Further associations and performing/recording credits include his work with Randy Brecker, Jan Hammer, Jerry Goodman, fusion/jam band Gongzilla, Germany's NDR Bigband, Soft Machine, Maria Schneider, Christian McBride, Eddie Van Halen, Dean Brown, Bob Berg, Nguyên Lê, Joe Lovano, Charles Tolliver, Bireli Lagrène, Peter Erskine, Ron Sexsmith, drum n' bass protagonists Lemon ‘D' and Dillinja. As an internationally established drum clinician he has performed alongside Dennis Chambers, Vinnie Colaiuta, Terry Bozzio, Billy Cobham, Simon Phillips, Omar Hakim, Ricky Lawson, Todd Sucherman, Paul Wertico, Denny Seiwell and Bernard Purdie, and most recently has been developing a series of motivational videocasts in drumming. TRACKS 1- Brazilian love affair (Duke) 2- Summer Breezin' (Duke) 3- Cravo e Canela (Nascimento) 4- Alone 6AM (Duke) 5- Brazilian sugar (Duke) 6- Sugar loaf mountain (Duke) 7- Love Reborn (Duke) 8- Up from the sea it arose and ate Rio in one swift bite (Duke) 9- I need you now (Duke) 10-Ao que vai nascer (Nascimento/Bastos) Músicos: George Duke – vocals (tracks: 1, 7), synthesizers (tracks: 1-3, 5-10), lead vocals (tracks: 2, 9), bells (track 2), electric pianos (tracks: 2, 7), acoustic piano (tracks: 4, 8), vibraphone (tracks: 5, 9), producer. It was an honor to talk with one of my favorite musicians and biggest musical influences, Gary Husband. In this conversation, Gary talks about his journey from early gigs as a teenager with the Syd Lawrence Orchestra, to 36 years of working with Allan Holdsworth, to working with John McLaughlin and the 4th Dimension, and more. Gary also shares his thoughts about “success” and the difference between waiting for opportunities versus creating opportunities. Be sure to check out Gary's website and his newly launched VideoCast education videos. They're amazing! http://www.garyhusband.com Gary Husband is one of a rare breed of musicians in that his expression is divided equally in his capacity as a drummer and a pianist and keyboardist of international repute. Indeed, he has been the keyboardist & second drummer in John McLaughlin's 4th Dimension since 2007. Gary continues to devote a substantial proportion of his time recording and performing worldwide across many styles of music.

Vivere. LOVECOVERS! A beautifully illustrated and expressed musical message of healing truth from preeminent and peerless jazz saxophonist Kirk Whalum arrives just in time for a world whose rhythm is more than a tad off-kilter. And at the heart of this homage to love, what else, the good news… the everlasting “Gospel” message of God’s covering and enduring love. Sync this with Kirk Whalum’s masterfully arranged and inspired saxophone reverie, a host of music’s most acclaimed instrumental talent (Paul Jackson, Jr., Chester Thompson, the late Ricky Lawson, John Stoddart, Kirk’s son Kyle, among others) and the contemporary Gospel stylings of Cedric and Victor Caldwell and you’ve got a stratospheric worship experience. And though Kirk’s matchless artistry is front and center on #LOVECOVERS, nuanced and stirring vocals abound with a stellar list of guests including Nia Allen, Ruby Camille, Donnie McClurkin, Wendy Moten, Kevin Whalum, plus Angie, BeBe, Carvin, and Debbie Winans. The album, like so many things in the journey God reveals, seemed like a simple collaboration. Gospel producers/composers/arrangers and Kirk’s personal friends Cedric and Victor Caldwell (Donnie McClurkin, Smokie Norful, CeCe Winans) had produced some covers of epic gospel songs that had not been released, and needed some additional artistry to bring them fully to life and thought Kirk was the answer. Kirk had met the Caldwells decades before at church camp the same year he met his future wife Ruby

GRAMMY®-nominated vocalists DW3 are brothers Billy & Eric Mondragon and Damon Reel. With the release of their highly-anticipated Woodward Avenue Records debut, Southern California’s premiere R&B, funk and contemporary urban jazz powerhouse DW3 lets the world in on a cool “Vintage Truth” paying tribute to their late drummer Ricky Lawson. “Vintage Truth” features contributions from a handful of the genre’s superstar performers. Brian Culbertson plays piano on the opening track, the rousing, vocal harmony laden R&B tune “Let The Music.” Paul Brown produced, mixed and contributes his inimitable guitar to “I Can’t Tell You Why,” while Greg Adams lends trumpet and horns to Eric’s original tune “Hold Me,” and Dave Koz infuses his lush sax emotion on “When You Cry.” Before he passed away, legendary GRAMMY®-winning drummer Ricky Lawson, who performed with DW3 in the final two years of his life, co-produced four of the core tracks on “Vintage Truth” with keyboardist Sean Dancy – including “Dance With Me,” “Overjoyed,” “California Dreamin’” and “When You Cry.” Follow DW3 on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.

When you’re a trumpet player for a drum and bugle corp, it can only mean one thing…that you’re one serious horn player. That’s where Jimmy Haslip’s musical journey begins. But it doesn’t end there. You see, his musical world was turned upside down at a live performance at a school dance where he witnessed the playing of an electric bass guitar for the very first time. Fast forward to LA where a young Jimmy Haslip is studying with his new teacher, Jaco Pastorius. As you might guess, success feeds success, as Jimmy’s talents are honed and perfected. His career is elevated when he crosses paths with Russ Ferrante and Ricky Lawson to record on Robben Ford’s first solo project in 1978. It is this collaboration that would lead to the creation of the legendary Yellowjackets. With a career spanning more than 30 years, Haslip’s discography and production credits are deep with amazing collaborations. Inside MusiCast welcomes a transplanted New Yorker and Long island native, Jimmy Haslip.
