Fight Oligarchy rallies are setting attendance records in swing states and Republican-controlled Congressional districts across the country. Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders, New York Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Texas Congressman Greg Casar ... and Calexico rocked the house in Tucson on May 22, 2025.Event organizers estimated 3000 for the Tucson rally at Catalina High School. The Midtown neighborhood association warned residents that as many as 7000 people may attend the March 22, 2025 rally. More that 23,000 people filled the football field and bleachers. The beginning of the program was delayed because so many people were still in line, and still streaming in as AOC began to speak. The lines snaked around the neighborhood, and eventually everyone got in. Decoy Deloy shines a light on Synthesizer, the brand new album from one of the wildest bands we've ever seen: A Place to Bury Strangers. For their 7th album, A Place to Bury Strangers decided to pull out all the stops: the 12” vinyl LP is packaged in a cover that can be assembled into a noise synthesizer. That's right, the vinyl is packaged in a circuit board cover. It's exactly what you'd expect from band leader Oliver Ackermann, because when he's not rocking with the band, he's hard at work at Death By Audio, makers of some of the most gnarly effects pedals ever assembled. We caught up with Oliver to learn more about what inspired this insane idea. You can pre-order your copy of Synthesizer NOW from Hello—it's out October 10th via Dedstrange. Birds sing to "defend and impress" (All About Birds). Bird songs are good for soul, though this depends on the person listening, the species of bird, and the type of sound they are making (Dr. Eleanor Ratcliffe via Natural History Museum UK). New Yorker Elijah Shiffer composes jazz pieces to celebrate the birds he observes in the city. Shiffer is a saxophonist, a composer, a music critic, and a bird guide. Fresh off a tour opening for Unknown Mortal Orchestra, Dion shares his takes on musical exploration, genre development, and collaboration. Dion Kerr is a forward-thinking, multi-dimensional artist (multi-instrumentalist, producer, arranger, songwriter, photographer, and videographer) born and raised in South Florida. Kerr's work reflects a broad range of influences and mediums. He has toured and recorded worldwide as a leader and a sideman to various groups spanning multiple genres. Dion Kerr displays his unwavering talent as a producer, multi-instrumentalist, and conceptual artist. Utilizing acoustic and electric elements, he blends a wide range of influences and styles into a cohesive sound that expands the limitations of genre-bound music. There are hints of Dion's eclectic taste in his records' melodic groove-based instrumentals. Experimentation is essential in Dion's process and is always represented in vivid fluidity. Dion can be seen at some of the most renowned festivals, venues, studios, and galleries with many great young and upcoming artists of all art forms. Kerr has shared the stage with Ignacio Berroa, Nicholas Payton, Lillias White, Godwin Louis, Jean Caze, Emmet Cohen, Immanuel Wilkins, Justin Brown, Tivon Pennicott, and most recently Marcus Strickland coming off of their European tour of festivals and venues such as Ronnies Scott's in London. Dion co-founded the band The Smoogies, who released their debut album Planet Smoogies with trumpeter Nicholas Payton and People Music; they are set to release their next record, a live album, in 2024. Dion was the lead engineer and co-producer of Seafoam Walls record XVI; he also played guitar (formerly bass) in the live incarnation, released on Thurston Moore and Eva Printz's label Ecstatic Peace Library, which was recorded and produced in his home studio. They recently got off tour, opening up for Unknown Mortal Orchestra for their US tour dates, and have secured a sponsorship with Fender. He is also a key member in many other highly sought-after bands in South Florida and New York art scenes. His musical career began early on by being billed with the Dave Leibman quartet while he was still in High School, leading them to reconnect at the prestigious Manhattan School of Music in NY, where he attended school on scholarship. He has been seen at venues and festivals such as The Blue Note, Sevilla Jazz Festival, Martinique Jazz Festival, Ground Up Festival, Guatemala Jazz Festival, Quebec City Jazz Festival, Young Jazz Festival, Casa Del Jazz, and Adrienne Arsht Center. He has toured North America and Europe extensively with different bands. Dion has scored music for films featured at SXSW, New Orleans Film, and Miami Film Festivals. Dion Kerr's new solo record, set to be released in 2023, follows up his latest releases, Ivy, which also features Jeff Parker, Bubby Lewis, Adam O'Farrill, Reptile Ground, Echoes of Lost Time, and Ruby. His new record showcases his expansive musical knowledge and arranging abilities, featuring himself on bass, vocals, recording, production, and mixing. His YouTube series Dialogues has been his most recent outlet, which features a wide variety of musical artists that he performs together in an intimate duo setting, which showcases the individuality of each featured artist and how a musical conversation can take place in hopes of bringing people more together. Please do us a favor and name 3 Taylor Swift songs... Anyway... TRADES TRADES TRADES ... that's the theme of this week's episode as we break down this year's NFL Trade Deadline and try to determine how the Eagles and 49ers continue to fleece teams for top-level talent. Speaking of trades, former MVP and current U-Haul sponsor James Harden finally got his wish of a trade to LA to team up with Kawhi and PG. How, will that marriage work with Russell Westbrook in the mix? We try to determine if this team is a legitimate threat in the West or not. In conclusion, we had to bring it home to talk about the Grizzlies and their struggles so far to start the season. At 0-5 and the only team in the association without a win - what do the Grizz need to do ? How to Write a Bass LineThat Moves People. Download PDF Tutorialincludes multitrack MIDI file If the link above does not work, paste this into your browser:https://hackmusictheory.com/album/2505465/bass-moves Intro. I remember the first time I heard “Closer” by Nine Inch Nails in a club back in the ‘90s. I'd never before seen people literally running to the dance floor. Running! My fellow Gen Xers will remember this, but by the time the bass line starts after about 20 seconds of drums, the dance floor would be completely packed. And this phenomenon happened in every club! The power of a great bass line to move people (even over a simple four-on-the-floor beat, like in “Closer”) still amazes me. Ever since then, I've felt that the ability to get people physically moving is probably the most fun aspect of making music. So, here's a step-by-step method inspired by “Closer” for writing bass lines with the power to move bodies, minds, and hearts! But first… Tea! Step 1. Body Set your tempo to 90 BPM, then throw in a simple four-on-the-floor beat on your drum track. If you don't know what that is, no problem, it's just a kick on every 1/4 note and a snare on beats 2 and 4 (see MIDI below). Right, now set up two bars on your bass track, with your grid on 1/16 notes. You're gonna start by making a dancy rhythm on only one note, C, which is our root note. Keep in mind that your rhythm needs to be good enough to move bodies all on its own. Adding the melodic element later isn't going to make your bass line any dancier, so this is the time to maximise its danceability. Four-on-the-floor drum beat (one bar) So, what makes a rhythm dancy? Well, arguably the most dancy element is syncopation, which is when you accent an off-beat. However, if you only play off-beats, then your rhythm is gonna sound like a cat walking on your keyboard. So, be sure to play at least one of the main beats. In our example, we played beat 3. Also, you want a ton of space in your bass line, as that gives way more impact to the few notes that you do play. So, limit yourself to only six notes in this step, and make all of them 1/16 notes. And yes, keep all of them on C. Don't worry though, we'll add a couple more notes in step 3. On that note, leave beat 4 open, as that's where those extra notes will go (see MIDI below). Repetition also plays a huge part in making a rhythm dancy. You wanna give your listeners an almost hypnotic rhythm that moves their bodies and releases their minds from thought. So, you're only gonna write a one-bar rhythm. Then, when you're happy with it, copy and paste it into your second bar. One-bar rhythm on root note (C) copied and pasted into bar 2 (highlighted) Step 2. Mind Now that you've got the body moving with your rhythm, it's time to move the mind. Download the PDF to read the rest of this tutorial… Download PDF Tutorial Lastly, are you new to music theory? Or are you experienced, but you want a refresher? Then download our FREE BOOK (link opens in new tab). In the Music Real E123, I catch up with Today I chat with Music Researcher, Dr. Ben Green is a cultural sociologist with interests in popular music and youth studies. Ben is an adjunct research fellow at the Griffith Center for Social and Cultural Research and a sessional academic at Griffith University. In affiliation with the Regional Music Research Group, he has undertaken industry and audience research in live music scenes, with policy impact including the City of Gold Coast's Live Music Action Plan 2019–2023. Other work explores memory, affective belonging, and cultural change in music scenes based on ethnographic research in Brisbane. Ben introduces his present research project called Young People Music Making and Wellbeing During a Public Health Crisis. Ben shares powerful insights into the data about our industry to give us a perspective when it comes time to plot out a pathway to recovery post COVID lockdown. Ben's current research project seeks to understand the importance of music-making for young people (between the ages of 18 – 35) as a source of well-being during the COVID-19 crisis. A key objective of the research will be to evaluate if music-making has contributed to young people's individual well-being (extending in this context to both physical and mental health) and their sense of connection with others. Given the unprecedented circumstances of the COVID-19 pandemic, the project offers a significant opportunity to examine and evaluate the importance of music-making for young people, in both an individual and collective sense, in a time of rapidly shifting and increasingly uncertain socio-economic conditions. https://themusicreal.com.au/2020/08/29/dr-ben-green-young-people-music-making-and-wellbeing-during-a-public-health-crisis/

Darshell McAlpine has been fascinated with words and writing for over thirty years. She is an accomplished writer and storyteller, depending on who you ask. Her love of reading good books grew into a love of writing them. When she threw her hat into the ring and wrote her first book, the number of conflicting choices overwhelmed her: traditional or self-publishing; to write a blog or not to blog; marketing; E-book, Kindle, hard copy, paperback, etc. At the end of the day, she just wanted to write good books and have people read them. Then a friend was three weeks from publishing his book when the publisher backed out. Kismet! Boss Lady Press was born. Boss Lady Press is a boutique publishing house specializing in self-publishing fiction, non-fiction, and children’s books. It exists to help authors share their poured-out souls with the world. It provides authors with enough information to make sound decisions about publishing their work and to publish for them if an author so chooses. Writers shouldn’t have to wait for years to see their work in print or get the runaround when they attempt to publish. In this episode, I’m talking with Simon Glenister, Director of Noise Solution, a social enterprise based in Bury St Edmunds which provides 1-1 music mentoring programmes using music technology for young people in challenging circumstances |||| Noise Solution is interesting for a number of reasons. Firstly, the business model is unusual for this sector – Noise Solution is not a charity and all of its income for delivery comes from commissioning ||| Secondly, they use digital storytelling as a central part of the work and its evaluation ||| And thirdly, they have developed a robust evaluation model that’s recognised by the Cabinet Office and NHS Clinical Commissioning ||| We talk about … the importance of sharing a positive story about a ‘disengaged’ young person with those they’re closest to ||| Deci and Ryan’s self-determination theory and the impact of autonomy, competency and relatedness ||| the power of music and technology to improve wellbeing ||| the meaning of ‘statistically significant’ in relation to their evaluation ||| Simon’s three top tips for other people changing lives through music.
So crazy how when you’re going through something or feel a way about a certain situation music will always speak directly to you or speak to what you’re going through/dealing with/how you feel! Music is just as much a god as the Bible is, music is everything!

Abram Smith caught political fire as a radical Locofoco Democrat, a friend of working people and outsiders. Smith was elected to the Wisconsin Supreme Court in 1852 after he spent some time as a notable defense attorney. Let’s not forget that in 1850 the Fugitive Slave Act was revamped in order to ensure that Northerners were not a hinderance in the capture of slaves who had escaped their southern masters. In fact, Northerners were now required to return any slaves whom they knew to be fugitives. Smith, as a judge, was in utter disagreement with this act and he made that quite apparent when he nullified the Fugitive Slave Act for his state after a slave by the name of Joshua Glover was thrown into the city jail. Sherman Booth had been helping Glover maintain his freedom. Smith decided that Glover should be liberated and Booth should be cleared of any wrongdoing.Who was Abram Smith? What was the Fugitive Slave Act and did it change during the Compromise of 1850? What did Abram Smith decide about the Fugitive Slave Act?Further Reading:Dunley, Ruth. “A.D. How to find the Hero! Dr Rademaker’sPrescription For Your Transformation, Interview with Edwin Coppard, CEO & Founder Real People Music.
Welcome to the January installment of Aquarium Drunkard’s recurring Transmissions podcast, a series of interviews and audio esoterica from Aquarium Drunkard. For our first episode of 2018, we explore three unique stories. First, we dive into the story of Ozma Records’ new reissue of the Voyager Golden Record. Launched into outer space in 1977 onboard the Voyager space probes, the Golden Record was a sort of cosmic mixtape, designed by a team led by Carl Sagan and Ann Druyan as a representation of life, arts, and culture on Earth. We spoke to co-producer David Pescovitz of Boing Boing from his office at the Institute For the Future about how this new reissue allows us to more fully understand the scope of the Golden Record —and what it has to say to listeners today. Then, we sit down with comedian, writer, and musician Tim Heidecker. Best know for his work on Tim and Eric Awesome Show — Great Job, Decker, and films like The Comedy, Heidecker is an extraordinarily busy guy: he recently finished The Trial of Tim Heidecker, a part of his meta-comedy saga On Cinema with Gregg Turkington — AKA Neil Hamburger. He’s also got a recent album out, Too Dumb for Suicide, a collection of songs about the president. We dive into his strange, sometimes confusing world. And finally, we close out the show by shining a light on some of our favorite mixtapes from the Aquarium Drunkard archives, The End is at Hand collections, a four-volume series of super-obscure, often private press, outsider psychedelic guitar and folk music from the ‘60s and ‘70s centered around the Jesus People Movement. We’re joined by BlackForrestry — Josh Swartwood and Doug Cooper — who put these mixes together, to investigate the roots and feral faith of these “Jesus Freaks,” whose apocalyptic visions shimmer throughout these mixtapes — and whose faith still speaks to Josh and Doug.
https://www.instagram.com/r.trufanov/ FEAR Without fear, human could hardly live today and his ancestors could not have done it. Fear warns us and keeps us from taking irresponsible risks. At the same time, it mobilizes forces, whether for defense or for flight. In the course of civilization, the immediate threats to nature have become smaller, especially for the urban people in the industrializations. In prosperity, however, new fears have arisen: fear of nuclear power, unemployment or genetically modified food. Modern fears have also become a political factor: in the Western world, the green parties of the fears of the environment began to move into the parliaments. Free of fear Life is full of fears. The fear of life, of being alone, of pain, and of dying. Fears that pile up to a mountain. I want to be free, free from fear. I climb the mountain. At the top, I look down into the valley. I'm afraid. Fear of running, fear of spreading my arms like wings, afraid to fly. I take all the courage together and run, Spread out my arms and jump down. I fly - all the fears are gone. Everything is suddenly so insignificant, so small. A heavenly silence, interrupted by the sound of wind blowing around my body. The first time free of all fears. I feel free as a bird. No fear No fear of landing Just free! (Bernd Hoffmann) 1. What was your first idea about your topic "fear"? Fear - is something we cannot live without, its one of main driver in our progress and achievements in life! 2. Which track is significant for this feeling in your podcast? Every track has a lot of character and drama.... and its for a listener to decide... 3. In which kind of situations in life you feel that or do you have an example maybe for us? The main fear for me is to spend my life unnoticed, not leave anything behind. 4. What do you think its the most important/beautiful thing what music can give People? Music is like a book, it tells the story that author has created but every reader understands it a bit differently. 5. What was your Intention to make Music? Music for me is a form of honest conversation with a world. We say thank you and wish you lots of fun with " Fear " More Information about: Timujin @timur-sardarov www.facebook.com/TimurSardarovOfficial Gedankenmalerei by Jhon cargocollective.com/jhondouglas/ Gedankenklang at www: www.gedankenklang.org/

Fatback Band - Backstrockin' Edit By Petko Turner The Fatback Band (later, simply Fatback) is an American funk and disco band. Most popular in the 1970s and 1980s, The Fatback Band is most known for their R&B hits, "(Do The) Spanish Hustle", "I Like Girls", "Gotta Get My Hands on Some (Money)", "Backstrokin'" and "I Found Lovin". Their 1979 single "King Tim III (Personality Jock)" is sometimes considered the first hip hop single. Formed in New York City in 1970, The Fatback Band was the concept of Bill Curtis, an experienced session drummer, inspired to merge the "fatback" jazz beat of New Orleans into a funk band. In addition to Curtis, the band's initial line-up included guitarist Johnny King, bassist Johnny Flippin, trumpet player George Williams, saxophonist Earl Shelton, flautist George Adams, and keyboardist Gerry Thomas. The band specialized in playing "street funk". The group also later included conga player Wayne Woolford, vocalists Jayne and Gerry, Deborah Cooper saxophonist Fred Demerey, guitarist Louis Wright and George Victory. The Fatback Band signed to Perception Records and had a hit single that summer with "Street Dance". The single reached the Top 30 on the US Billboard R&B chart, but failed to cross over to the pop chart, a pattern the group would follow for the rest of their career. The band released the albums Let's Do It Again, People Music, and Feel My Soul before signing to Event Records in 1974. In the mid-1970s, the band incorporated jazz elements and moved more towards a disco sound resulting in the singles, "Keep On Steppin'", "Yum, Yum (Give Me Some)", and "(Are You Ready) Do The Bus Stop". The singles proved popular in dance clubs, but did not do as well on R&B chart until the spring of 1976 when "(Do The) Spanish Hustle" came close to the Top Ten. "(Are You Ready) Do The Bus Stop" birthed the development of line dancing.[citation needed] Now recording for Spring/Polydor, the group continued with the singles, "Party Time", "The Booty", and "Double Dutch". Late 1977 brought a name change to Fatback, and in 1978 they found their first Top Ten single with "I Like Girls". The song "King Tim III (Personality Jock)" is often considered to be the first commercially released rap single, having shipped just a week before The Sugarhill Gang's "Rapper's Delight" in October 1979.[2] In 1980, Fatback had a pair of their biggest hits with "Gotta Get My Hands On Some (Money)" and "Backstrokin'". Also finding the charts in the 1980s were "Take It Any Way You Can't It", "I Found Lovin'", and "Spread Love", with singer Evelyn Thomas, in 1985. Whilst American pop success proved elusive, the group made regular appearances in the UK Singles Chart, including the Top Ten twice with "(Do The) Spanish Hustle" and "I Found Lovin'".[3] Keyboardist Gerry Thomas was simultaneously a member of The Jimmy Castor Bunch, so the band elected to remain close to the New York area instead of extensive touring. They had substantial success in South America, especially in Brazil (with "Money", and "Backstrokin'").
