Over two decades, Greg Pak has built a career in comic writing by taking on such titans as Hulk and Darth Vader. With a special knack for bringing forth the humanity that unites all of us, he's now taking on another temperamental monster in the pages of Lilo & Stitch. Today, I'm talking to Greg about how he got into comics, how he feels storytelling can change the world, and the common thread he's woven through 20 years of working on some of our biggest Pop Culture icons.About Greg Pak:Greg Pak is an award-winning comic book writer and filmmaker currently writing Ronin Island and Firefly for BOOM!, Star Wars: Darth Vader for Marvel, and Stranger Things middle grade comics for Dark Horse. Pak wrote the Code Monkey Save World graphic novel and Princess Who Saved children's books based on the songs of Jonathan Coulton and co-wrote (with Fred Van Lente) the acclaimed Make Comics Like the Pros how-to book. His other work includes the comic book series Planet Hulk, World War Hulk, and Magneto Testament. We talk about the feudal adventure comic, Ronin Island, by Greg Pak, Giannis Milonogiannis, Irma Kniivila and Simon Bowland. We talk about the themes of prejudice and acceptance of one's identity that's presented in the book. As well as the absolutely beautiful artwork that's presented within the book. Champ and Heather deal with slight technical difficulties as the camera lags a bit behind them. Otherwise comic talk is to be had. This week Champ tries out their wine mom persona and Heather does NOT approve. Champ goes on a long rant about X-Men. They talk about how Champ and Warren Ellis should be best friends. Plus we totally do talk about comics such as Alienated, Ronin Island, Buffy the Vampire Slayer: Hellmouth, Nebula, Batman: Pennyworth, Blackwood and many more!
Heather and Champ bring it at you quick and fast with this weeks pick ups. Heather *spoils* the last issue of Strange Skies Over East Berlin so WATCH OUT. Champ talks about her love for Apocalypse and how he can do no wrong. And just much much chatter about comics including, Xforce, Excalibur, New Mutants, Ronin Island, Strange Skies Over East Berlin, Gideon Falls, Batman, Rise of Kylo Ren and so much more.
This week Justin and Brian are joined once again by their friend Mason to talk about the books released on 3/6/19 including Justice League, Ronin Island, Batman, 18 Days, Cemetery Beach, The Walking Dead, Doomsday Clock, Avengers, No Road Home, Immortal Hulk, Uncanny X-Men, Prisoner X, Deadpool, Vader Dark Visions, Cosmic Ghost Rider Destroys Marvel History, Conan the Barbarian, Paper Girls, Oberon, Green Lantern, and Die. Hana, the orphaned daughter of Korean peasants, and Kenichi, son of a great samurai leader, have little in common except for a mutual disdain for the other. But these young warriors will have to work together when an army invades the island with shocking news: there is a new Shogun and the Island is expected to pay fealty in exchange for protection from a new enemy…a mutated horde that threatens to wipe out all humanity. Award-winning writer Greg Pak (Firefly, Mech Cadet Yu) and artist Giannis Milonogiannis (Prophet) present a story that examines how we move forward when our past divides, set against the backdrop of a post-disaster 19th century Japan.
