This week, Drewby and Yergy head over to Milwaukee to discuss the case of Sade Robinson, a beautiful 19-year-old young woman who was just months away from earning her degree in criminal justice. That was until April 1st, 2024, when Sade went on a date with a man named Maxwell Anderson. After visiting a few area bars, Sade accompanied Maxwell back to his home where they watched Love, Death + Robots. No one knows exactly what happened next, but the evening ended with Maxwell scattering Sade's body parts all around the city of Milwaukee, before setting her Honda Civic ablaze.

Real Life Things kicked off with stories from Friday night's bonfire, where the nature of reality was hotly debated between toasted marshmallows. That conversation somehow spiraled into a serious (and slightly absurd) discussion about Noodles and Soba—Ben's son's pet rats—and the potential benefits of getting female rats fixed. Apparently, doing so can add about a year to their lifespan by preventing reproductive cancers, but the surgery's cost is a tough sell when you're in what Ben called “debt paydown mode.” Devon floated the idea of unscrupulous “rat hustlers” faking the procedure, which—frankly—feels like a dark Netflix documentary waiting to happen. From there, it was a short hop to a conversation about whether rats lay eggs (they don't), Jurassic Park's “life finds a way,” and then straight into tearing apart Gremlins logic. What even is “midnight,” anyway? Local time? Greenwich Mean? Galactic zenith? And why are we trusting a kid instead of the old shopkeeper? Gremlins may now officially live in the “science fantasy/biological fiction” corner of the canon. Saturday brought gaming with their friend Greg. They played Relic Blade, where Devon managed to escort a yak to safety despite Steven's attempts at sabotage. Greg used a clever trick involving a D20 and gravity to determine movement direction, which frankly should be in the rulebook. They also played Marvel Dice Throne, where Devon's Wolverine got obliterated almost immediately thanks to poor positioning and cruel dice. Then came Living Well, a minimalist dice game with retro 70s-style art and some satisfying ability upgrades. Plans to play Arcs got shelved after a medical emergency—Nicole was hit hard by the heat and ended up needing CPR at the hospital (despite having a pulse and breathing, which… yeah, it was a weird night). She's recovering now. Future or Now TV-wise, the gang wrapped up Season 4 of Love, Death & Robots—with highlights including a talking cat, an occult bomber mission, and gang warfare against colossal babies. Over on Amazon Prime, they watched the Secret Level take on Pac-Man, which was surprisingly grim and humanoid-heavy. Ben and his son also dove into Scott Pilgrim territory, rewatching the movie and starting Scott Pilgrim Takes Off, which quickly turns into a clever alternate universe story that's fun, stylish, and charming enough to inspire a trip through the graphic novels. Ben gave a thumbs-up to the newest season of Black Mirror, calling one episode a bit conceptually broken but championing another as a "new Callister." Book Club In Book Club, the crew dug into “Liking What You See: A Documentary” by Ted Chiang, from Stories of Your Life and Others. Framed as a mockumentary, the story centers on Caliagnosia—a reversible condition that disables facial beauty perception. The ethical and social ramifications are explored through interviews and propaganda, making the story feel eerily real. It raises questions about freedom, superficiality, advertising, and the influence of unseen tech on our minds. Tamara's personal journey through switching Cali off and on again added a human element to the philosophical questions. Everyone agreed: it was a banger of a story. Next up for Book Club: the first three chapters of A Psalm for the Wild-Built by Becky Chambers. Get reading!

Folge #219: FingernailsKann man Liebe wirklich messen? What can translation and transmission of ideas and stories over time teach us about a society -- and about storytelling? Guest Ken Liu joins us to talk about the intertwining of philosophy, imagination, and translation. As writers, we can never fully translate the story that plays out in our heads onto the page, because every reader will imagine something a little different. How do we embrace that and celebrate it as a lovely part of the human condition? This plays into how we construct our fictional worlds as well. The stories a culture tells about itself and its past are also always acts of translation, taking "what really happened" and putting a spin on it. Why do the people in your invented societies frame stories in the way that they do? How can thinking about the relationship between words, power, leadership, and culture help us build more creativey and inventively? [Transcript TK] Our Guest: Ken Liu (http://kenliu.name) is an American author of speculative fiction. A winner of the Nebula, Hugo, and World Fantasy awards for his fiction, he has also won top genre honors abroad in Japan, Spain, and France. Liu's most characteristic work is the four-volume epic fantasy series, The Dandelion Dynasty, in which engineers, not wizards, are the heroes of a silkpunk world on the verge of modernity. His debut collection of short fiction, The Paper Menagerie and Other Stories, has been published in more than a dozen languages. A second collection, The Hidden Girl and Other Stories, followed. He also penned the Star Wars novel, The Legends of Luke Skywalker. He's often involved in media adaptations of his work. Recent projects include “The Message,” under development by 21 Laps and FilmNation Entertainment; “Good Hunting,” adapted as an episode in season one of Netflix's breakout adult animated series Love, Death + Robots; and AMC's Pantheon, with Craig Silverstein as executive producer, adapted from an interconnected series of Liu's short stories. Prior to becoming a full-time writer, Liu worked as a software engineer, corporate lawyer, and litigation consultant. He frequently speaks at conferences and universities on a variety of topics, including futurism, machine-augmented creativity, history of technology, bookmaking, and the mathematics of origami. In addition to his original fiction, Liu also occasionally publishes literary translations. His most recent work of translation is a new rendition of Laozi's Dao De Jing. Liu lives with his family near Boston, Massachusetts.

Yochai Gal is the creator of the fantastic Cairn RPG, co-host of the great Between 2 Cairns podcast, and one of the main proponents of the NSR (New School Revolution). His is also a very active voice in the TTRPG space, and if I may add, a very positive one. Yochai is always looking for ways to make not only the amazing games we love more accessible, but the act of making these games more accessible too. When I was developing my trilogy of horror RPG zines (Screams Amongst the Stars, The Dead Are Coming, and Running Out of Time), Yochai helped me tremendously. And he does that with lots of designers. He also makes a point of making his own creations very accessible. You can get Cairn for free in PDF, with all the rules in an online SRD or PDF, or at cost in print! That in English and in other languages as well (we even talked about trying to make this available in Portuguese). Anyway, Yochai is a lot more than his games and creations, and in this chat we get a chance to know a little bit more about him and his wonderfully weird self! We talked about art, creativity, process, podcasting, gaming, time travel, cooperatives, how dangerous hippopotamus are, and oh, so much more! Listen up and get weird with Yochai Gal! Welcome back to the UNTOLD LEGENDS podcast hosted by Natalie C. Parker & Zoraida Córdova. We've had a little bit of a rebrand, so if you remember VAMPIRES NEVER GET OLD, we are still the same editors and writers, we've just expanded. Join our dynamic duo as they're joined this time by the wonderful Darcie Little Badger. Together they discuss some fun (and deadly) marine facts along with what inspired her story in the anthology from the perspective of a horror and fantasy lover. Darcie Little Badger is a Lipan Apache writer with a Ph.D. in oceanography. Her critically acclaimed debut novel, Elatsoe, was featured in Time Magazine as one of the best 100 fantasy books of all time. Elatsoe also won the Locus award for Best First Novel and is a Nebula, Ignyte, and Lodestar finalist. Her second fantasy novel, A Snake Falls to Earth, received a Nebula Award, an Ignyte Award, and a Newbery Honor and is on the National Book Awards longlist. Darcie is married to a veterinarian named Taran. She can be found on Instagram @dr.littlebadger. We also found Darcie's magical octopus! The Octopus Squid has bioluminescent arms and can drop one as a distraction as it escapes predators. Check out the Monterey Bay Aquarium website for more on this critter. Additional media mentioned: Creature from the Black Lagoon (1954), The Lighthouse (2019), Dagon (2001), The Shape of Water (2017), and Love, Death + Robots "Jibaro" (2022). Follow Zoraida Córdova @zoraidasolo and Natalie C. Parker @ncparker on Instagram.
In this historic episode of Cosmic Crit, our heroes encounter an unexpected pair, bent on preventing them from freeing the surrounding lands and wildlife from the radiation emanating from the laboratory. Will they survive?

This weeks all new Episode Kristine has been a bit sick still. So for the first time on the podcast, she is enjoying an adult beverage. A mommy cocktail of orange juice and champagne. Also known as a mimosa. Kris discovers a brand new show on Netflix that grosses Kristine out, with the mere thought of it. (Love, Death - Robots) https://podtasticaudio.com/easy Later we are joined by Peter Anthony from Australia. Peter is an author, speaker and Master in Professional Communication. As an expert in collaboration and Peter has run workshops for thousands of people in 12 countries over 20 years. He consults to Fortune 500 companies to help them achieve better smarter outcomes from more effective internal and external relationships. His book Collabradabra highlights the six moments that matter to maximise collaborative outcomes one conversation at a time. https://peteranthonyconsulting.com/ https://www.amazon.com.au/Collabradabra-Peter-J-Anthony/dp/064681074X Peter: "As an introverted 6-year-old my mother insisted I come out of my bedroom to talk to my uncle Harry and his family. I didn't like talking so I would ask my uncle questions and he gave me long funny answers. As an introvert I was a great student and after university I found myself at IBM. They encouraged us in sales school to sell the IBM way, and I found the more I ignored selling the more clients bought from me and I was on to one of many 100% sales clubs. Later I spent a decade in advertising agencies selling clients products and again I found traditional selling didn't work. What did work was demonstrating a unique understanding of the consumer and then you were rewarded with a purchase. When I started consulting, I taught non salespeople like engineers, lawyers, and accountants how to build the client business by not selling but collaborating with clients. After 10 years of consulting and training and a master's degree I wrote Collabradabra- the magic of collaborative conversations. I would like to share the collaboration idea with your listeners who I think will find it useful if they have customers or stakeholders to engage." ***** The Kris and Kristine Show ***** http://www.krisandkristineshow.com https://www.kristinesmithdesigns.com K2 RADIO: https://live365.com/station/K2-RADIO-a04551 Email: krisandkristinepodcast@gmail.com Voice Mail: https://www.speakpipe.com/KrisandKristineShow Twitter: https://twitter.com/k2showsandiego Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/thek2showsandiego/?hl=en Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/k2showsandiego Patreon: www.patreon.com/thekrisandkristineshow
In this weeks rabbit hole we look at NEOM and The Line - the plan by Saudi Crown Prince Mohammad Bin Salman to create a smart megacity in the middle of the Saudi desert. They say it's because they're divesting from fossil fuels but it's actually a really weird insane idea with a high chance of spectacular failure. There's gonna be a resort for tourists, advanced manufacturing, a global trade hub (whatever that is), a film production facility and the crown jewel of the crown prince - The Line - a 170km long mirrored smart city where every breath you take is monitored - but robot maids do your housework and flying cars take you where you are going. But what's the catch? Basically everything. Half the tech they have promised isn't even close to existing and the deadlines are VERY soon. This is the vanity project of a madman and you can watch from the ground level as it all unravels in front of the world. Hey, at least you're not the dead bird guy. Enjoy!

Over the past five years, Love, Death & Robots has completely resculpted the landscape of animation, feeding Netflix viewers bite-size chunks of violence, sex, and gore. Supervising Creative Director Jerome Denjean is a key player behind-the-scenes, giving Love, Death & Robots' talented directors the freedom to execute their visions (literally!) while ensuring that each episode fits in with the series' overall vision and tone. In his second podcast with Chris, Jerome breaks down some of the amazing episodes in series three: David Fincher's “Bad Travelling,” Alberto Mielgo's “Jibaro,” Patrick Osborne's “Three Robots: Exit Strategies,” and Emily Dean and Polygon Pictures' “The Very Pulse of the Machine.” Jerome also reveals how episodes are researched and produced, and how Japanese animation has influenced their direction.
Meet four of the creative folks responsible for the animated Netflix hit Love, Death & Robots! In their alternate lives, creator and executive producer Tim Miller directed the big-screen Deadpool and Jennifer Yuh Nelson directed Kung Fu Panda 2 and 3… but this attention-grabbing anthology of animated short subjects has got their juices flowing. The same holds true for supervising sound editors Brad North and Craig Henighan, who treat each episode of the show like a feature film and call on years of experience creating unusual soundscapes. Leonard and Jessie can't imagine all the work that goes into crafting every installment of this wildly imaginative show.

What if the cops were a dog that took your temperature (this exists)? What if a Blackhawk was fully remote? What if we told a robot, 'No war crimes, please'? All this and more on this episode. Woogity woogity woogity! This week, Lindsay and Halle talk about the 1999 Nickelodeon cartoon, Rocket Power. Don't forget to stick around for Lindsay and Halle's modern obsessions! This week... Lindsay was obsessing over Love, Death & Robots
This week, we largely talk about the episode of Love, Death + Robots that Troy is in, called Bad Travelling.

With so much TV either taken up by the Olympics or getting out of their way, we took our own stab at counter-programming: for our last episode before Valentine's Day, we're each forcening each other to watch a TV episode with "love" somewhere in its title. Dave assigns Sarah "The Secret War" from Love, Death + Robots; Sarah challenges Tara to take on the ABC Afterschool Special "It's No Crush, I'm In Love"; and Dave endures the series premiere of Tori & Dean: Inn Love. Following all our reports, it's on to a Non-Regulation Game Time that you might find for sale at a love...shop? Grab your Valentine, or just treat yourself, and listen! TOPICS Lead Topic:
