What happens when a Texas millionaire moves to LA to solve crime? Oh, you want answers to questions? Well, be prepared to be disappointed as you are plunged into a world where rational decisions and logical thought are foreign concepts. We delve into an episode where a tiger is trained to kill Werner Klemperer and the suspects are Barbie Benton, a trained karate killer Sonny Bono, and Zsa Zsa Gabor and that’s probably the second weirdest thing in Season 1, Episode 13, “The Purrfect Crime.” Yeah. That’s the actual title.Join us as we time travel back almost 30 years for Aaron Spelling’s dire warning for future generations, beware the Tigers of March…P.S. Star Trek Discovery Podcast, featuring Picard and Lower Decks

Star Trek: Lower Decks – Season 1 Episode 8 – Veritas We’re back with the eighth episode of Lower Decks, titled Veritas. This episode was written by Garrick Bernard and directed by Kim Arndt, who also directed S1E2 Envoys and S1E5 Cupid’s Errant Arrow. Scary trial or party? We see our four ensigns be raised into a dark room that looks very similar to the courtroom seen in Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country. We see the senior officers held above in some kind of beam. It all starts out with what appears to be a trial. Mariner’s testimony One of the funniest parts of the episode was the flashback to Mariner’s testimony when she and Boimler had bridge duty on 57818.4. Rutherford’s screwing up the red alert system speaker system in the cargo bay, Boimler’s terrible combination of kissing ass, indecisiveness, his inability to read the room, and make bad strategical recommendations, like the “Crazy Ivan” mentioned in The Hunt for Red October”. Mariner’s misinterpretations of Captain Freeman’s “send them a message” that she took to mean fire phasers off as a warning shot (which I thought that’s what she meant, too) went horribly and caused the alien Clicket ship to attack. All of that was fantastic. You may not have caught it, but the alien captain in this scene was voiced by Kenneth Mitchell, who played the triumvirate of Klingons on Discovery: Kol, Kol’Sha, and Tenavik. He also played a Romulan and a Federation officer in this episode. Unfortunately, she is placed in contempt and gets sent to the eels, before Boimler corroborates her story that they didn’t know what was going on while on the bridge. That’s a pretty bad side effect… We then get another flashback to Rutherford, which we find out his full first name is Samanthan. see a really bad side effect of his cybernetic implants: Missing time. I felt bad for the guy, but this was hilarious. From the feather dance from Star Trek V to catching Billups while he goes on oxygen deprivation (and mentions Mark Twain and Tasha Yar) so was he an engineer on the Enterprise? Then there’s Tendi! Tendi’s a badass! We thought that this covert ops section was also great, and we loved seeing Tendi kick some butt, THEY’RE SCANNING!!! THEY’RE SCANNING!!! And who can forget the appearance of Q!!! John de Lancie reprised his role of Q for this episode, where he appeared both in a flashback and in the present time. Some argued that he wasn’t used enough, but we thought his use was just right for this time around. Best episode so far! We both agree. This was the best episode of the season. Welcome to our Rebinge of Star Trek DS9: The Nagus It’s episode 10 and time for The Nagus! Haven’t had enough Ferengi? Well, you’ve come to the right place as a whole swarm of them arrive at Deep Space Nine. Swarm? Gaggle? Herd? Murder? At any rate, a bunch of them turn up and Dax wonders if they’re here for Quark’s birthday! Nope…they’re here to see The Nagus. The Nagus: Inconceivable! The Nagus is a very old Ferengi played by Wallace Shawn of Princess Bride fame. While it’s tough to see him under all that Ferengi makeup, as soon as he speaks, it all becomes clear. What’s the first thing the Nagus does when he arrives? He drops dead! What is Quark to do now? Well…take over for him, that’s what! At the same time that this is going on, Jake, the sweetest kid on the planet, is having some ups and downs with his best friend Nog. What is up with these two? Why are they having secret meetings after midnight? Tune in and find out! What’s this rebinge thing? It’s a re-watch of a thing you’ve already seen but love to watch and talk about. Welcome to our Rebinge of Star Trek DS9: Move Along Home We’ve made it to the infamous Move Along Home episode of season 1! Not a terribly popular and historically low-rated episode involving the Wadi from the Gamma Quadrant arriving to play some games. And when they play a game, they REALLY play a game. Move Along Home In this episode, our crew makes official first contact with a new race. The Wadi have colorful outfits and some serious mullets and they are here to play, for reals. They hang out in Quark’s for awhile, but when they catch Quark cheating, they open up a game of their own. And then Kira, Sisko, Dax and Bashir all disappear. While Odo is on the hunt for our missing officers, Quark is literally gambling with their lives. Or is he…? Just drink the champagne, you’ll be fine. Allamaraine, count to four…“ Alamaraine! This is a weird episode, but never fear, James has an over-analysis of why you should love it. What’s this rebinge thing? Welcome to our Rebinge of Star Trek DS9: The Passenger In the 8th episode of season 1, Bashir and Kira rescue a Kobliad security officer from a burning ship. They bring her back to DS9, but unknowingly also bring back another invisible passenger named Vantika! Either he’s a ghost or he’s stowed away inside of somebody’s brain…who could it be? Who is The Passenger Well, we know the passenger is Vantika, but we don’t know how he made his way to DS9. Our trusty crew isn’t even sure it’s really him because his body is in the morgue! But Ty Kajada, the Kobliad security officer who has been chasing Vantika for 20 years knows it’s him. And her willingness to prove her point lands her in a medically induced coma. Julian’s massive ego is on display from the start as he tells Kira how impressive he is. She wants to bring him down a peg or two, but ultimately Sisko gets to shoot him, so maybe that will help. We also meet a new security officer from Starfleet named Frowny-Face Primmin. There’s discussions of Julian’s ego, a golden brain, Odo’s fragile psyche, leadership and some highly questionable over-acting. What’s this rebinge thing? Everyday our bodies are overloaded with synthetic chemicals from personal care products, household items, food, pesticides, the air, clothes, linen.... Almost everywhere we look there are chemicals that we are breathing, eating and absorbing through our skin!We do have this amazing thing called a liver and it works really hard to detoxify our bodies from all those synthetic chemicals. Our livers do a great job, but unfortunately modern times have seen us exposed to copious amounts of these chemicals and our livers have become over burdened and simply cannot keep up with the detox required to keep us healthy. Put simply – if we don’t change our ways, the amount of disease and illness in our world is just going to increase as our bodies can’t keep up with the detoxing demand. In this episode, I talk about a balanced approach to going low tox, that won't kill the budget or send your head into a spin.Support the show (https://michellemarsh.com.au/michelle-marsh/join-our-community/)

You Might Suck at Podcasting Howdy -- I’m Kyle Bondo, and this is Podfader! My weekly podcast about helping you keep your podcast from podfading, especially when the drive for new and interesting content becomes a struggle. S1:E8 -- You Might Suck at Podcasting Step Two of the Nine Steps Back to Podcasting is Humility. This step centers on believing that you don’t know everything about podcasting or realizing that your way may not be the best way to podcast. That’s a tough mindset to crack because it requires you to admit that your podcast could be better. If you’ve already come around to agreeing that your podcast and your podcasting skills are worth working on. Now you need to have a real conversation with yourself on what “worth working on” really means to you. Which is why I go back to the name of this episode: You might suck at podcasting! Well, do you? How would you know?   Getting to the Root Causes with Five Whys The Five Whys works something likes this: #1 -- I stopped podcasting. WHY? #2 -- I didn’t want to do it anymore. WHY? #3 -- I take a long time to create an episode. WHY? #4 -- I don’t have any ideas on what to talk about. WHY? #5 -- I wait until the last minute to plan episodes. The root cause in this example takes a general problem statement: “I stopped podcasting”, and drills down through the potential causes to find a possible root cause. You may have already discovered that I can answer the WHY’s any way I want to. Which means I can deflect and hide the real reasons for why I stopped podcasting. But if you are serious about coming back to podcasting, then you have to have a very honest conversation with yourself. By using a root cause approach to investigate your own technical, emotional, and motivational skills within your podcast, you can discover a lot about the reasons something happened.   Podfaders don’t happen overnight They podfade after a dozen tiny things go wrong in their production, their expectations, and even their lives. Using the Five Whys is just one way to be honest with yourself. You know the real reasons behind your problems. That is the core lesson of Step Two of Nine Steps Back to Podcasting. Having the humility to admit you’re not perfect, and the courage to do something about it. If you can do that, then you’re ready to move forward with a much clearer understanding of what you need to work on to improve.  About the Show Podfader, hosted by veteran podcaster Kyle Bondo, focuses on the challenges of keeping your podcast going and the drive we all have has creators to keep our podcasts going with new and interesting content. If you’re a struggling podcaster, Podfader will be your sanctuary to get you through the messy middle of any podcasting strategy. Stop fading and start casting! Star Trek: Discovery – S1E8 – Si Vis Pacem, Para Bellum On this episode of The Star Trek Discovery Podcast, Adam and I discuss Season 1 Episode 8, titled Si Vis Pacem, Para Bellum. Saru knows fear! This episode does a deeper (but in my opinion, not deep enough) dive into Saru and his species. For a prey species, Kelpiens are faster, stronger, have better senses and taller than humans. He can crush communicators with his bare hands. Can you imagine what the apex predator species that considers the Kelpiens prey? For the first time in his life, Saru felt no fear on the planet. His actions, however, showed questionable judgment. His actions on the planet were nothing short of mutiny, though I doubt he will be reprimanded for it. What does Si Vis Pacem, Para Bellum mean? According to the Wikipedia article, Si Vis Pacem, Para Bellum means “If you want peace, prepare for war”. So what did we think of Si Vis Pacem, Para Bellum? It was very much a split vote for this episode. Adam thought it was the best episode so far, but I had the opposite reaction. I would probably rank this one as my least favorite so far. I had a hard time figuring out why I had that impression, but I finally identified one key issue: The episode length. It started with a bang but, in my opinion, it tailed off from there. Mind you, it seemed well written, well-acted, well-directed and the effects (with the exception of the naturally occurring transmitter) excellent. The problem that I see is that there was enough potential story there to fit into two episodes, but the episode was not only edited down to a single episode, but this was the shortest episode so far. It seemed like a lot of the story on the planet had been edited out, as did the story on the Klingon sarcophagus ship. It’s possible that some of the Klingon plot could have been moved to next week’s mid-season finale, and it’ll fit well once that’s been released, but the episode could have benefited from more time to expand the story. Is Cornwell still alive? That’s one thing that wasn’t clear but we both think that she did not die. We should be seeing her again next episode.
