I was in Dallas with my son for a podcasting conference in August. It was a blast, especially hanging out with my son. We stayed at the downtown Sheraton, which afforded us the ability to walk the city a bit. I also had the opportunity to connect in person with two former guests of the Smart Cleaning School. I went to lunch with Greg Shepard from "Sail Around the World". We had a blast walking around the city and enjoying a quality Mexican meal. Greg is a friend and definitely a mentor. He stretches me big time. The day after lunch with Greg, I had a personal tour and breakfast with Debbie Sardone from "A Buffalo Charges the Storm". Debbie is highly regarded coach in the residential cleaning industry as well as a friend and mentor. Back to my son and walking Dallas. I really, really wanted to visit Dealey Plaza. As a kid, I was enamored with the movie "JFK" starring Kevin Costner. The movie makes a compelling case for a second gunman on the grassy knoll. I have seen the Zapruder film so many times, that I already felt like I've been there. I was wrong. Being there was different. Kenny and I walked into Dealey Plaza. I was in awe. He knew more about the Lincoln assassination than Kennedy, so I described it as best I could. That's when I noticed a guy with a bike helmet and bike showing the Zapruder film and explaining the details of the assassination. Kenny and I walked over to listen. We stood on Elm Street in front of the old Texas State Book Depository as he pointed to the 6th floor corner window. The window is half open with boxes arranged exactly as they were in crime scene photographs. He paused the video on his phone and pointed to the first large "X" on Elm Street. This is where JFK was struck the first time in the neck. He played the Zapruder film. We could see Kennedy grab his neck. It was too surreal. He kept the film running as JFK was struck with the kill shot. He pointed to the second "X" on Elm Street. "On November 22nd, 1963, that's where an American President was assassinated." Chilling. We thanked him for his history lesson and walked the plaza. We stood on the "X" and took a picture. We stood on the grassy knoll and took a picture. We stood where Abraham Zapruder took the movie and yep, we took a picture. It was much, much different in real life. Dealey Plaza is virtually unchanged in 59 years. History is powerful, especially when we can be there in person. There's a reason I shared this story. In the early 1960's, John F. Kennedy was beloved and respected. He was a member of the Democrat Party and generally regarded to have political views left of center. He considered himself a Liberal, yet he opposed Communism, supported the 2nd Amendment, and voted for tax cuts. Those were positions held by the Democrat Party then. Today, these same policy beliefs would be called Republican. Here's what I find interesting. If JFK were running for office right now, he would likely be a moderate Republican. This is not my opinion. You can search it online and read for yourself. That's not the point of this podcast. Here's the point. JFK didn't change. How could he. He's been dead for 59 years. What did change? Now we're asking the right question. It's called the Overton Window and I find it fascinating.Read the rest of this article at the Smart Cleaning School website

Denham Hitchcock made his living bringing stories to life. On our TV screens for nearly 30 years, he was the jacked, good looking cat reporting on the ground in war zones, unearthing hidden truths & sharing tragic stories & it taught him one thing: 'time waits for no one, dreams shouldn't be left on the pillow'. That realisation was the catalyst for a major life change when he, his wife & daughter set sail on the adventure of a life time, one he reports to be quite fulfilling. In our conversation we yarn about some of the lessons he learnt reporting on both tragic & thought provoking stories, the truth about life on a catamaran, what he has learnt about himself along the way & how this isn't just a pipe dream but a very real option for those looking to escape the rat race & how his family made it happen. The long awaited bio-pic paying tribute to the incredible feats of Jessica Watson has finally been realised, highlighting the struggles she overcame to become the youngest person to sail solo and unassisted around the world. The movie True Spirit was mostly filmed in south-east Queensland, with Jessica Watson's courageous feats navigating some of the world's most challenging stretches of ocean now tapping into a worldwide audience through Netflix. Speaking to me by Zoom, Jessica Watson tells us on Streets of Your Town how the movie has taken many years of development with director Sarah Spillane and working closely with the star Teagan Croft, but she's thrilled with the final results. Watson says she hopes now more than a decade after her amazing feat, that if another young woman wanted to do something like this, she wouldn't have to face the same obstacles she did. Originally aired - June 15, 2020Jerome grew up in Northern Michigan surrounded by water. Reading books about harrowing adventures fueled his mind to live life outside of the box as he grew up. He started his sailing career late, but once he caught the bug, it took off and never stopped. After living in the Caribbean for years Jerome decided to hike the Appalachian Trail. He admits that it was a blissful time of happiness and fulfillment, but he wanted to do more, and do something on the water. In October of 2017, Jerome climbed aboard his Westsail 32, Mighty Sparrow, Jerome would circle the globe alone and return to where he started, Gloucester, MA in June of 2018. His incredible adventure has only been completed by a handful of folks in a vessel of that size. Before I even begin, let me first share the context of this episode. There are so many people struggling financially in America, which used to include us. I did not come from money. I have never made a lot of money. I am not currently a millionaire. "Ken, why are you teaching this topic?" In a matter of speaking, I am teaching it through my podcast. But the real credit goes to my friend Greg Shepard of Dallas Maids. His interview called "Sail Around the World" was a powerful example of how to think and solve problems in your business. Several months ago, I had the opportunity to hang out with Greg in Dallas for a few hours. Greg is a millionaire, many times over. He is very modest, so I clearly won't share his numbers. I will, however, share his mindset on money and becoming a millionaire. It was the simplest and most believable path I've ever heard to attaining wealth. His mindset is not unique. In fact, most money guides and gurus teach it already. Greg taught me 3 simple steps that every single person can take (no matter where they are from) to attain wealth during their lifetime. And that's the key word... "lifetime". Wealth can be overnight and fast, but not usually. The prevailing mindset now on wealth now is that it's lucky and immediate... right place, right time. It's the lottery mentality. Greg taught me a powerful lesson that day in Dallas. I started implementing it and teaching it to my kids. Now I want to share it with you. This will rock you with its simplicity. What do you need to create wealth? Let's reference the late, Napoleon HIll. You need to "Think and Grow Rich". There is a mental mindset you need to have on work, time, and money that allows you to conceive ideas that you can take action on. You need to believe that it is possible because without belief, you won't take the level of action required to convert an idea into wealth. You also won't be able to attract committed people to your vision that will help you accomplish it. John Maxwell says this. "A leader that lacks confidence has a team that lacks commitment." A strong mental mindset will produce the ideas. Strong ideas with action will build your belief. Results from your action will increase your belief. Increased belief produces confidence. This is where we need to get to. Now, I'll tie this back to my favorite quote in "Think and Grow Rich". "Whatever the mind can conceive and believe, it can achieve." I love this quote... always have since the first time I read it in 2002. Now that you have a basic premise of what it takes to create wealth, I'll share Greg's very simple and practical advice that he has followed in his life.Read the rest of this article at the Smart Cleaning School website
Tony Armit was 18 when he began building a 28 foot wooden yacht. The year was 1951, and he was young man keen for adventure. Three years later, he christened the yacht Marco Polo and with old school mate Brian "Tig" Loe, set sail from Auckland on an epic voyage which would take them around the world, becoming the first New Zealanders to do so. 70 years later - Tony Armit has written a book about the journey.
World-record setting sailor Lisa Blair returns to the podcast to discuss her latest voyage: sailing around Antartica, alone and without stopping. Lisa broke the speed record on this circumnavigation. Emma and Lisa discuss the challenges and successes of this latest world record, including some harrowing scenarios from the Southern Ocean. Join Glen and Julie as they continue around the world through less traveled, dangerous areas on the far side of the world. Turmoil in the Mideast convinces Glen and Julie to linger in the South Pacific visiting primitive villages on remote islands. But hang on tight, because to finish their voyage they must leave friendly shores and navigate through trouble in the Indian Ocean, Gulf of Aden and the Red Sea before arriving in Europe. Full of dry wit and compelling descriptions, Julie takes the reader along for the ride of a lifetime in this sequel (book 2 of the Escape Series) to her previous bestseller, Escape from the Ordinary.

Linus talks about his 11 day offshore passage from Noumea, New Caledonia to Cairns, Australia. The Australian Border Force engages in abusive tactics to harass cruising sailboat owners. If you are on a cruise ship or a plane you are treated like a tourist. If you are on a sailboat you will be targeted as a criminal by ABF which use a dozen officers to check in a boat with two people. They made my Australian crew member a prisoner on the boat and miss his hotel and plane flight for a day for no reason. Australia emulates the totalitarian policies of China, not the democratic governance of the United Kingdom. The ABF is a jobs program that wastes Australians' tax dollars and is destroying Australia's international tourism industry. I recommend steering clear of New Caledonia which is also hostile to international sailboat cruisers. This week's host, John Arndt, is joined by Dustin Reynolds to chat how to keep going and going on the water, no matter what life throws at you. Dustin is the first double amputee to sail around the world singlehanded, a record he set with a 7.5 year circumnavigation from Hawaii. He almost lost his life in 2008 when he was hit on his motorcycle by a drunk driver, and sailing became a huge part of his story in recovery. Hear the best part of sailing alone on an ocean, how to keep going through rough waters, his favorite islands he discovered, the perks you can only realize through sailing, and the time he lost his prosthetic overboard. How to Sail Around the World Part-Time, by Linus Wilson. Chapters 2, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, & 10 read by the author. Kindle Version at https://www.amazon.com/How-Sail-Around-World-Part-Time-ebook/dp/B01B0OFYNW "Do you dream of sailing around the world in a sailboat? Do you have a business or career you don't want to sacrifice for that dream? Do you have kids in school? You don't need to quit your job, sell your house, and take the kids out of school to complete a circumnavigation of the globe in a sailboat. You don't have to wait until you are retired to sail for the South Pacific. This book tells you how you can do it without uprooting your life by taking as little as two months per year off to sail the trade winds. Circumnavigating the globe in a sailboat is on par with scaling Mount Everest in terms of its rarity. Many potential circumnavigators are hobbled by misconceptions about the journey that mountaineers lack when climbing to the top of the world. It is said, “I want to circumnavigate to see the world.” Nevertheless, successful trade wind circumnavigators don't see the world. Instead, they travel on a narrow ribbon around it stopping mostly at a narrow range of countries that are downwind. Lack of focus causes many more failed circumnavigations than storms at sea. The conventional wisdom is that you need to quit your job, sell your house, and live on the boat year-round. The reality is that even retirees circumnavigating full-time keep their boat in port half of the year because of the demands of cyclone season. There is no good way to elude the November to April cyclone season that dominates 60 percent of the trade-wind circumnavigation route. The mad rush from the eastern Caribbean to the “safe” ports in New Zealand and Australia in a single calendar year is misguided. It sets cruisers up for hard, upwind ocean passages in future years and saps the resolve of their crews. A better solution is to haul out their boats in the South Pacific and fly back to their homes in the developed world during the cyclone season. It makes more sense to keep one's job and home and take annual two-to-six month leaves of absences to move the boat forward during the cruising season. This allows the sailors to earn more outside the cruising season. Further, they can maintain the careers and businesses which they have built over many years. Further, cruisers still have a job or business to come back to if they decide that the cruise is not for them. Pursuing a part-time circumnavigation is likely to be far less costly to cruisers' long-term earnings than totally severing ties to one's job or business. Going back to their homes on land is much more comfortable than living aboard, while waiting for cyclone season to pass. The most modest land-based accommodations are typically more comfortable than the most luxurious sailboat in port. Finally, part-time circumnavigations avoid many problems with educating school age children and obtaining necessary parts. Learn about the trade-wind route around the world with stops in Panama, the Galapagos, the Marquesas, Tahiti, Fiji, Vanuatu, New Caledonia, Australia, Mauritius, Chagos, Madagascar, South Africa, St. Helena, Brazil, and the eastern Caribbean. Learn why the Pirate attacks in the Gulf of Aden have NOT made circumnavigating the globe harder. This is the second book by the bestselling author of Slow Boat to the Bahamas, Linus Wilson. Dr. Wilson got his doctorate in financial economics at Oxford University. He sails an Island Packet 31' with his wife, daughter, and four pound poodle. New Zealand-born sailor Laura Dekker successfully completed a solo circumnavigation arriving in Simpson Bay, Sint Maarten, 518 days later at the age of 16 breaking the record for being the youngest to singlehandedly sail around the world, between the years 2010 – 2012. However, her circumnavigation was not uncontroversial. A Dutch court stepped in, owing to the objections of the local authorities, and prevented Laura from departing while under shared custody of both her parents and suddenly she was all over the news in Holland. Dekker later commented about the authorities in an interview, saying "They thought it was dangerous. Well, everywhere is dangerous. They don't sail and they don't know what boats are, and they are scared of them." www.meetingexplorers.com
