We're back on the albums again! Part TWENTY EIGHT 30-21. - This week features Ms. Lauryn Hill, Sam Cooke, The Clash, and seven other artists to continue this massive undertaking. Hmm, who else could there be? ;) - Barely squeezed in the albums! Def not enough time for Poetry Time. But you already knew that. Here's the written version for you: ____________________________________________________ What I Have Learned So Far Meditation is old and honorable, so why should I not sit, every morning of my life, on the hillside, looking into the shining world? Because, properly attended to, delight, as well as havoc, is suggestion. Can one be passionate about the just, the ideal, the sublime, and the holy, and yet commit to no labor in its cause? I don't think so. All summations have a beginning, all effect has a story, all kindness begins with the sown seed. Thought buds toward radiance. The gospel of light is the crossroads of—indolence, or action. Be ignited, or be gone. -by Mary Oliver ____________________________________________________ To honor the top 100 albums (and my favorite poet), the poems for the rest of this series will all be coming from Mary Oliver :) - ONLY 20 ALBUMS TO GO!!! I'm freaking out. (I'm *really really really* going to miss this project once we're through.) Onward and upward we continue. - Oh it's a major endeavor, alright. I'm going to try to listen to at least 10 albums a week for the rest of the year! Yeah, I'm not joking. Media, art, and entertainment publication Paste Magazine came out with a list of the 300 best albums and we're going to go through them all! Well, I'm going to. And then we're going to talk about it! Great tracks, themes, history, info, related artists, cultural context, personal experiences- they're all going to play a part in these reviews. Totally stoked because I love music. (And a little intimidated! Because this is a lot to process) - If we keep up with an episode per week featuring 10 albums each, we'll just about finish by the end of 2024. - There are only two of these left. (Gasp.) Take a break, listen to some of this music, and I'll see you Monday, C :) - BONUS POEM If you've made it this far down into the description, then you get an extra surprise today! Some time ago (I'm not quite sure when, but it could have been exactly a year ago!) I came across a poem from modern poet Lyndsey Rush that mentioned today's date (December 13, 2024) specifically. Ooh, it would be fun to do this poem on the show on that exact date! I thought to myself at the time. So apparently I saved the link to it, and set a reminder on my phone to pop up yesterday and remind me. And then of course promptly forgot about it. Until the reminder resurfaced! Just as it was supposed to. But who was to know when I set it that we'd be in 300 Albums territory on this specific day? I had no idea. (Don't you love that about life? You almost never know what's coming.) So not only did I not have time to include this poem in the audio of today's episode, but I had already chosen a poem by Mary Oliver to fit into today's poetry slot. What's a gal to do? Include it anyway! So here's the text of the additional poem, for your enjoyment and to assuage my original desire and intent: Same Time Next Year? This time next year I hope you're gobsmacked by all the wishes and wins that life lobbed your way I hope, by December 13, 2024, that your worries about That One Thing have lifted, and you're so far past the pain you have to squint to see it I hope in 365 days or so, that you find yourself Pleased as punch Walking on air Up to your tits in contentment Certain (but open to surprises) that it can't get any better than this
The Novel:My December DarlingThe Author:Lauren AsherThe Guest:Torry, host of Ready to be Romanced and Ready to be PettyThe Synopsis:CatalinaPlaying the part of my sister's maid of honor is easy even if she's marrying my ex. But playing nice with the best man? An impossible task given our history. Sure, Luke Darling may be suspiciously kind, incredibly handsome, and stubborn to a fault, but regardless of how hard he tries to make me see otherwise, I'm not interested. It's on me to remind him that he's my ex-boyfriend's best friend. And the one I'm secretly starting to wish I met first.LukeMy job as the best man is a simple one, except for one minor issue. I've spent so much time avoiding my best friend's ex that I didn't consider what could happen if I started craving Catalina Martinez's company instead. She is only in Lake Wisteria for the winter wedding, but her January departure date won't stop me from pursuing her. Getting her to date me would be nothing short of a Christmas miracle, but I'm determined to make her mine. ‘Tis the season to fall in love…even if I'm the only one taking the risk.Show Notes:- The 7th annual 12 Days of Boobsmas- From romance noobie to romance podcaster- Romance novels don't need to be hidden- Don't forget to shop your local romance bookstore this holiday season (updated June 2024)- Introducing today's book pick, My December Darling (00:12:45)- Our new favorite micro-trope... She's worked with everyone from Susan Hayward to Julie Andrews, Cliff Robertson, Patty Duke, James Caan, Alan Arkin and of course, the beloved cast of MASH. Her list of accolades is staggering. AND, she's released her wonderful new fragrance called “Swit-heart”. Proceeds from the sale of her book go to her non-profit foundation, the “Swit-heart Animal Alliance.” And the perfume is ONLY available to people who donate to the Foundation, with all proceeds going to the all-important cause of ending animal neglect, suffering and cruelty. Welcome to this companion episode celebrating the magnificent Nancye Hayes. In part 1 we learned of a determination through childhood to emulate the great stars of the MGM musicals who figured prominently in her early cinema attendance. And then onto a career developing her talents in a succession of J.C. Williamson musicals, before eventually landing the leading role of Charity Hope Valentine in Sweet Charity; helping to cement the knowledge that Australian performers certainly had what it took to lead a company and tell stories in imported musicals. The accolades came thick and fast, leading Nancye to great acclaim and on to a career that has seen her conquer all genres and theatrical roles; on and off the stage. She has contributed dynamically to the industry in creative roles as Director, Choreographer and Mentor. Her vast repertoire of plays and musicals has given us dynamic performances in Sweeney Todd, Nine, Showboat, Pippin, The Importance of Being Earnest, Same Time Next Year, Steel Magnolias and Six Dance Lessons in Six Weeks.Nancye Hayes is one of our great elders and her vast warmth and contribution to the Arts in Australia have made her a much loved Teacher, Leader and Actor.

Mike’s excellent adaptation of Sherlock Holmes as written by Neil Simon (in The Odd Couple vein rather than Same Time Next Year). Voiced by your two co-hosts. Back in August with The Crooked Man. Until then … the game’s a footnote. Wish we were as dapper as Martin and Benedict. The post Footnote 18 – If Sherlock Holmes had been written by Neil Simon appeared first on I Grok Sherlock.
