Strengthening domestic resource mobilisation and donor coordination. Our guest: Gladys Mugambi, KenyaGladys is Head of the Directorate of Health Promotion and Education in Kenya's Ministry of Health and Co-Chair of the global SUN Movement Executive Committee. In this conversation, Gladys explains how different interventions within Kenya´s multisectoral approach has led to progress in relation to key national nutrition targets. She highlights on-going challenges including the need to increase domestics resource allocations, further strengthen coordination across sectors, and the need for a greater focus on the promotion of healthy diets.The critical role of civil society organisations in advocating for these and other constraints to be addressed is recognised. As with Sisay in the previous episode, Gladys identifies the need for international donors to further strengthen coordination between each other and with the Kenyan Government. Listen to a conversation that Frank van Laerhoven had with Samuel Adeyanju. Together with Janette Bulkan, Jonathan C. Onyekwelu, Guillaume Peterson St-Laurent, Robert Kozak, Terry Sunderland, and Bernd Stimm, Sam co-authored a recent IJC publication entitled Drivers of Biodiversity Conservation in Sacred Groves: A Comparative Study of Three Sacred Groves in Southwest Nigeria. Sacred groves refer to land or bodies of water that have special spiritual significance to peoples and communities Biodiversity conservation appears to be an unintended, but arguably very fortunate by-product of sacred groves. Sacred groves in Nigeria are governed through a multiplicity of institutional arrangements that afford formal and informal roles to both communities and government.  Sam's research shows how threats in the form of changing beliefs and taboos can lead to the gradual conversion of sacred groves into land used for agricultural and residential purposes, instead. Mistrust and tensions between communities and government, form another treat to what sacred groves can mean for biodiversity. Also, and paradoxically, the success of sacred groves may possibly also undermine the positive effect that they can have on biodiversity. Sam's is based at the University of British Columbia, Canada. His research broadly focuses on African environmental politics with a special interest in livelihoods and community forestry. He has researched various forest management and environmental related issues in Nigeria, Ghana, Zambia, and Tanzania. The paper discussed in this episode can be placed in a tradition of attention for the role of resources with spiritual or cultural meaning in the International Journal of the Commons. I decided to go ahead and make it a 5-color enchantress deck, with all 5 of the Hondens in it. This solved a couple of problems the Kenrith deck had. I had to run too many tutors to reliably find the shrines Kenrith didn’t really interact well with the shrines Talk about how cool Sisay is, and how she does all the things a shrine deck would want. I sent email to myself to look at Sisay in the morning. Also, I included Kethis, Enduring Renewal, Estrid’s Invocation, Mirage Mirror,  Sterling Grove, Privileged Position, Fountain Watch, Teshar (this was wrong, I was thinking of Shalai, and that’s also wrong) and Captain Sisay. Many of these didn’t make the final cut. I was just planning on updating my Kenrith Deck, and adding in the 6 new Shrines, but one night I was drifting off to sleep, and I had an idea. Sisay, Weatherlight Captain! The Shrines all scale as you get more shrines, kinda like the Slivers of enchantments. This will give you inevitability if the game goes long enough, and if there aren’t many “destroy all enchantments” effects. It's time to talk about our free Commander 2019 preview card! Tahngarth, First Mate - 2RG Legendary Creature - Minotaur Warrior Tahngarth, First Mate can't be blocked by more than one creature. Whenever an opponent attacks with one or more creatures, if Tahngarth is tapped, you may have that opponent gain control of Tahngarth until end of combat. If you do, choose a player or planeswalker that opponent is attacking. Tahngarth is attacking that player or planeswalker. 5/5 Tahngarth was Sisay's first mate on the Weatherlight, a mighty warrior of the Talruum minotaur people. This card represents him early in the Weatherlight Saga, before he gets captured by Volrath and experimented on (as shown in his original card). Enjoy this mighty new legend who is always happy to get into a fight!
