November is here and it is finally getting chilly here in Kansas. That means my brain automatically goes to a different kind of cooking than in the summer. I start to crave slow roasted meats and stews. I think about soups and slow cooker meals. What is great about these kinds of meals is that while the cooking takes a long time, it is all hands-off. I can put something in the oven or slow cooker and leave the kitchen for a few hours. For a full transcript and links click here. 1 Hour Freezer Prep Sessions use code Marie20.
In this issue of Dominating with Dawson, we discuss the debate between fast hands and slow hands. The natural tendency of each driver varies, often by how they grew up. Go karters and autocrossers usually have a tendency to have faster hands. Ben discusses with us the usefulness of both and what we think of as the "proper" hand speed. Also, Ben stakes a very strong claim in the debate between Eric Clapton and Eddie van Halen. Rounding out the week, we dissect Niall Horan's Flicker: the true surprise breakout of the One Direction solo era. From his Slow Hands to his Taylor Swift stan brand, we can never get enough,
Ever since Sonny Jay screamed “OH MY GOD, IT’S ONE DIRECTION” at The Best of Capital’s Summertime Ball, I have woken up every single day thinking the same thing. But this week, it was for a valid reason, as Niall Horan was joining Capital Breakfast with Roman Kemp. The ‘Slow Hands’ popstar spoke about his very special upcoming gig which would see crew benefit, after many of them lost work due to the coronavirus pandemic. Niall also spoke about how he congratulated his 1D bandmate, Zayn Malik, after he recently became a father. (My babies are all grown up.) After Harry Styles apparently turned down the role of 007, Niall Horan jumped at the chance to play James Bond, much to our delight, and - most importantly - he discussed the nipples on his waxwork. You’re welcome. Capital Breakfast have an all new podcast. Every Friday Roman Kemp, Sian Welby and Sonny Jay will bring you lots of guests, pranks and waffle. "I would go into more detail, but I'm afraid to find you." In this episode of Not All Who Connect Are Missed (NAWCAM) I am joined by aspiring singer/voice actor Murphy Roeder (@Murphman52), with help from non-aspiring Emily Goodwin behind the scenes. We reminisce about our experiences participating in an acting competition and the absurdity of talking to agents in LA. After which, Murphy is introduced to the phenomenon of reading Craigslist's Missed Connections, while our brains are piloted by bourbon.

Climb aboard for a great new episode!!! This week we chat about a whole bunch of great topics: -Liam talked about his song Both Ways and apologized for releasing it. Does his explanation make us feel differently about the song? He also talked about new music and where he sees his songwriting going in the future. -Harry released a video from the Electric Ballroom in London. It was super vintage and psychedelic. Will we get more of these? Could this preface a documentary or is it just a one off video because Adore You is the current single? - Niall and Liam both performed at the Global Citizen Together at Home concert! We loved their isolation versions of Slow Hands, Black and White, For You, and Midnight. -We end with a 1D Mad Libs! We all need a laugh right now for sure :) Check out Talk Direction Down Low on patreon.com/talkdirection for EXTRA PODCAST CONTENT!! Slow hands, like claws starting to eviscerate me... With horror, violence and abundant fuccboi murder, Charles takes on the debut single of everyone's third or fourth favourite member of One Direction! Marshall is your typical wealthy young man, when he gets caught in the snare of the irresistible Lilith, who has more planned for him than he thinks. Murder, it's murder, she's planning to murder him. Plus you get to hear all of Charles' One D dating theories, Tansy trying to name all five members of One Direction, and a surprising amount of chat about Deltora Quest. On this week’s episode we catch up with Zayn! He is apparently filming a music video in New York City for a new song that will be on the Aladdin soundtrack. Will he be singing a Disney classic like A Whole New World or will it be a song Zayn wrote? Zayn also released a very scenic music video for his song Stand Still. Is he going to release a music video for every song? We then play James Corden’s game Kiss, Marry, Cruise with 1D songs (ie. She’s Not Afraid, Girl Almighty, & Woman). It gets quite silly as I am sure you can imagine! Recently we asked listeners on twitter which 1D and Harry songs describe their personalities. We read listener responses and choose songs for ourselves. Plus, we introduce a new game where one person says a word, for example 'love', and the other has to sing a 1D lyric with that word in it (trust me it is MUCH harder than it seems!). Finally, we finish off the episode with a classic round of 1D as…QUEER EYE!!! We don’t quite agree with Matt Bellassai's choices! Will he invite any of the boys to guest judge with in on X Factor? What does this mean for his album release? I also talk about my experience going to the X Factor auditions and watching Louis in action! Join Caitlin and Lucia for a very FEMINIST episode all about Harry Styles' song CAROLINA! We talk about the history of the phrase "Good Girl" and how it has been harmful in both pop music and culture. Listen as we try to come up with new lyrics that avoid the misogynistic downfalls of the phrase "good girl" but still honor the upbeat music in Carolina. We LOVED the verses in Carolina and talk about how dynamic they are in terms of creating an interesting female character who is multidimensional. Finally, we analyze the Beatles-esque music that makes us want to get up and DANCE! This episode is FULL of musical clips to guide you through the discussion so get ready for an in-depth lyrical and musical analysis! Talk Direction Down Low: we discuss what Harry can do while writing his 2nd album to avoid some of the sexist topics in his first album. Who should be on his writing team? What topics do we want to see him cover? This episode is for all you Niall fans! We talk about Niall performing Slow Hands with Taylor Swift, the recent Niall and Rose charity golf event, and his ICONIC song On My Own! This relatable banger is FABULOUS and we discuss the ins and outs of wanting to spend time with yourself. We talk about how On My Own relates to romantic relationships, friendships, and Niall’s experience as a solo artist! Quick disclaimer: This episode is out of order because I haven’t had time to edit the previous two episodes as they are more complicated in terms of editing. I wanted to get an episode out as soon as possible so that is why my numbers are all messed up! The Carolina and Games episodes will be out soon! Talk Direction Down Low: we talk about Zayn’s solo career, his new music, and the slightly strange GQ magazine interview that was just released! On this episode we discuss a WHOLE BUNCH of great things! Firstly, we talk about how amazing it is that Niall discussed his mental health recently and his journey with mild OCD. Next we break down both Liam and Zayn’s NEW SONGS: FAMILIAR and LET ME! Why is it so cool that Liam is collaborating with J Balvin? Will Liam do a ballad next? Will Zayn’s second album be very romantic like Let Me? What are the best lovey, cheesy lyrics? On TDDL this week we discuss: Harry Styles 2nd album and whether or not he will/should change up his style! Will he try to make singles that will do well on radio?
This week I am joined by special guest Lucia to talk ALL about Harry's newest unreleased song Medicine! We ended up talking for over 4 hours so this episode has been broken into two parts. In this first part we talk about: -listener reactions to Medicine -why Medicine is so popular -in what ways Medicine is a feminist song -how it compares to Kiwi and Only Angel -where would it have fit on Harry's album -how amazing and important it is to have a queer song! -the importance of a song that is sex positive and queer sex positive! and much much more!! -how empowering it is to sing this song for so many people Next episode will be the other half of our discussion where we do an in-depth lyrical analysis and go through the lyrics a line at a time, so make sure to listen to the next episode too! On Talk Direction Down Low this week we talk about Louis' tour: predictions, when his album is coming, etc. PLUS we talk about queerness in the 1D fandom and why lots of queer people fell in love with 1D! This week's episode is a GREAT one! Welcome to the show Martha and Steph! These two have been long time listeners. We talk about their One Direction story and they talk in detail about their Niall concert they went to together (get ready to be super jealous!). For the main discussion we talk Niall's song Flicker--light symbolism, emotional depth, and comparisons to Harry's album! Martha and Steph are truly FABulous and offer so many new opinions and perspectives on Niall's music. On TDDL this week, we have a FEMINIST discussion about being a fan over the age of 30 and fandom stereotypes in general. Martha and Steph talk so intelligently and passionately! Get ready for one of the most COOL song discussions EVER (at least in my humble opinion!). This episode is the long awaited From the Dining Table song discussion and I break down EVERYTHING! I discuss Harry’s vulnerable songwriting and the intimate production on the song that helps these lyrics come alive. It honestly feels like you are right there in the room with him. To point out all the nuances I am talking about, I inserted clips from FTDT as well as from Somewhere Over the Rainbow, and Where Do Broken Hearts Go -- Listen to find out why! Despite what I may have declared about the state of dance music in my last post, 2017 was not without some fantastic gems. Many of the songs fall into the electronic dance music category but aren't really dance, rather sweet concoctions that have been remixed to give the originals an added boost and extend their playability. Excellent examples are Dua Lipa's "Be the One," Rihanna's "Love On the Brain," Flume and Tove Lo's masterful "Say It," and a personal favorite "Issues" by Julia Michaels to name a few. The original versions (and many others included in these three sets) of these songs stood strong by themselves but the remixes that accompanied them removed the tone of the original production and gave them an entirely new feeling. In these instances, it's the DJ's featured in this series that are equal stars to the artists themselves. 2017 had several noteworthy new artists and time will tell if they're one-trick pony's or are truly worthy of their current stature of new-found fame. Leading the pack and certainly the most promising is Dua Lipa who came out of seemingly nowhere after being plucked by Warner Brothers from semi-YouTube fame. She has the full package with the looks, the vocals and, the lyrics to back it all up. She's got "IT," and a string of hit singles to back IT up. Another promising artist that I'll lay my cards down on is Julia Michaels. While not as massively successful as Miss Lipa, Julia put out one of my favorite songs this year with "Issues." She also has the full package (a quality severely lacking in many of her contemporaries) and could very well be a slow-burn to the top giving a certain Miss Goulding a run for the money if she doesn't drop some new material in 2018 [clears throat]. Both Niall Horan ("This Town," "Slow Hands") and Camila Cabello ("Crying in the Club," "Havana") proved there is life outside of their respective multi-platinum bands and should have pretty strong staying power. However, it's newcomer's Cardi B. ("Bodak Yellow") and Luis Fonsi ("Despacito") whose first singles were so massive that living up to their success much less maintaining it will prove difficult to overcome. I'm not counting them out, rather routing for their continued success but only time will tell. Speaking of cheering on an artist; Party Favorz wants to give a shout-out to Kesha who with the release of her first album ("Rainbow") apart from Dr. Luke has proven several things: 1) She can sing 2) She can write 3) The "Woman" has a great deal of talent beyond spoiled-brat anthems. Just don't touch her fucking weed. Congratulations on your Grammy nominations for Best Pop Solo Album and Best Pop Solo Performance! "Woman" is sitting at number two on Billboards Dance Club Chart as I write this and will likely finish the year atop that chart. The song has also been included as one of the year's best. There is so much to cover in dance music for 2017 but I can't lay it all down lest you folks get bored. I'll have my final thoughts and part three of the Year in Dance 2017 out on Friday. Until then...ENJOY! Album: Year in Dance 2017 pt. 2 Genre: EDM, House, Dance Year: 2017 Total Time: 01:47:56 Sam Hunt - Body Like A Back Road (Mr. ColliPark Remix) Bruno Mars feat. Despite any prior skepticism about the dance music landscape this year, it brought to the forefront an array of musical masterpieces. Many songs, predominantly from the Electronic Dance Music (EDM) genre, were beautifully transformed by remixes that elevated their original's charm, expanding their reach and longevity in the dance music arena. Standout examples include Dua Lipa's "Be the One," Rihanna's "Love On the Brain," and the superb collaboration of Flume and Tove Lo's "Say It," alongside a personal favorite, "Issues" by Julia Michaels. 2017 introduced us to a wave of promising new artists contributing to the Top Dance Songs of 2017, their longevity and impact yet to be fully assessed. At the forefront was Dua Lipa, who soared to stardom backed by Warner Brothers, becoming an absolute sensation with her stunning looks, captivating vocals, and compelling lyrics. Similarly, Julia Michaels showed immense promise, especially with her standout track "Issues," potentially giving the likes of Ellie Goulding serious competition in the future. Other artists who proved their mettle outside their multi-platinum bands were Niall Horan, with hits like "This Town," "Slow Hands" and Camila Cabello, with tracks "Crying in the Club," "Havana". However, for debut artists like Cardi B. ("Bodak Yellow") and Luis Fonsi ("Despacito"), whose first singles were chartbusters, maintaining that level of success could prove challenging. We also extend our hearty applause to Kesha, who with the release of her album "Rainbow", apart from Dr. Luke, demonstrated her raw talent and versatility as an artist. Her Grammy nominations for Best Pop Solo Album and Best Pop Solo Performance are well-deserved. There's so much to cover when discussing the Top Dance Songs of 2017, but to avoid overloading you with information, we'll reserve more insights for our next installment. Stay tuned for the third part of the Top Dance Songs of 2017 coming this Friday. Until then...ENJOY! Excuse the excitement of your boys Rob and Callum on this new music podcast, this is Callum's last one as A SINGLE MAN and so spirits are high and the banter heads to our opinions on Slow Hands, the Baha Men, the Devon shot called a Squashed Frog and occasionally back to the music. The music is a bag full of killer tunes including the upfront punk of The Cowboy, the Gram Parsons country of New Rose, the rock n roll of The Murlocs, the electro afro-funk of Diron Animal, a Buffalo Springfield cover from Panther Martin and whole lot of other great tunes.Listen up.
Babyyyyyyy.
Gather round, there's something we need to tell you. And it's not just that Louis Tomlinson has released a really good single with Bebe Rexha. Seriously, Back to You is all sneaking charm. It has such a beautiful slow churn. No chorus, just the same four chords round and round and an atmosphere of anguished excitement, as if sung by someone who has decided the person who most annoys them in the world might also just be their best bet for a happy life. Bebe Rexha is the true star of proceedings, but Louis is a more than able foil for her. It's a wonderfully measured song that is beautifully understated, particularly in the bridges (even the swearing seems oddly measured, rather than brattish showing off), and the minimal atmosphere is further proof that pop needs more songs like Bad Liar. And it’s got those weird 1D yelps that also appear in Niall Horan’s Slow Hands. I wonder if it was conceived after Harry’s album came out, as there’s a kind of mature pop properness to the chords it that seems to be pitched midway between Harry and Niall. Anyway the thing we need to talk about is not that. It's something else.

(((( RISE is proud to present a new series of DJ mixes featuring immense Boston talent and sought-after international artists. )))) RISEcast 001 by D-Lux: Laura DeLuca aka D-Lux is one of the scene's most driven DJs; from perfecting mixes, to smashing it at parties, this Boston-born DJ has the house scene locked down. Since jumping on the decks in 2005, she's become a staple in the Boston underground, serving as a Resident DJ at RE:SET (Boston's most widely-known underground house and techno weekly). D-Lux often showcases her talents at RISE, the city's only legal after-hours nightclub and at the Red Door in Portsmouth, NH. By far not a one-dimensional DJ, D-Lux delivers a blend of deep and drummy house, tastefully and seamlessly blended with funky techno; with that distinct feminine touch that sets her apart from the crowd. Her versatility and programming is what keeps D-Lux as one of Boston's fastest risers within its electronic music scene. D-Lux carefully orchestrates her sets to take listeners to special, unexpected places - a strategy that has resulted in a growing worldwide fan base and a reputation as a talented, versatile DJ. D-Lux is well on her way to being one of Boston's great musical exports showcasing skills and versatility which erupts dance floors everywhere. This combined with a strong work ethic is what keeps her in such high demand. ________________________________ Track Listing: 1. We're excited to celebrate our Slow Hands annual tradition with an exclusive special love jams podcast by Worst Friends cohort Tom Croose and an interview of each other in preparation for Friday's Valentine's Day love affair at Beatbox. Today's mix by John Paul Jones AKA Tom Croose marks the first artist to return to our podcast series. Slow Hands will follow his San Francisco debut of his LIVE performance with a back-to-back DJ set with Tom Croose as Worst Friends.

This is for me, a purer more involved selection that embodies a more late night listening experience. Gradually building from an extended downbeat intro through moody, deep and soulful grooves with tight organic bass-lines that twist into more elevating strings and moogy chords. Great tracks from Guti, Second City and my favourite is a tough call between the ascending groove of Leon Vynehall's 'Sister', the dub from SanFran and the very different melodica of Schegg's Night Owl. 01 - Will Saul Presents Close Feat. Joe Dukie - My way (Tanner Ross & Slow Hands remix) 02 - Chasing Kurt - Family guys 03 - Chasing Kurt - Heavenly 04 - Sami Wentz - Nobody knows 05 - Leon Vynehall - Sister 06 - Guti - Hope 07 - Ivalyo - Invisible Solution (Slammer remix) 08 - Mass Digital - Waiting for a new day 09 - Kon Feat. Bosq - Runaway (Night Plane mix) 10 - Kimbu Kimra -Raise the dead (Love from San Francisco dub) 11 - Second City - What love 12 - Schegg - Night Owl 13 - Urban absolutes - Anything 14 - Foxes - Youth (Maze & Masters remix)

We're excited to release this rare dance floor podcast by Tom Croose (MGT, FC, INTRNJNL). John Paul Jones aka Tom Croose is one half of our upcoming January guest Worst Friends, alongside AYLI friend Slow Hands. Besides Jones reputation as an excellent DJ, he's known for his vast musical knowledge and record collection. For a taste of what's to come at Beatbox Jan 25th take a listen or more. http://www.residentadvisor.net/event.aspx?433364 Tom Croose's recent Christmas Podcast for Autobrennt: http://autobrennt.com/news/1091641154
Todays houseguest is the New York Slo-mo (although he'll hate that) producer Slow Hands. Not to be pidgeon-holed by his name he's not all 90bpm's. His edits and remixes seem to track his music interest, touching on tracks that obviously hold a place in his musical past. You certainly couldn't refer to Slow Hands as a predictable producer or even Dj, its apparent from listening to his productions, remix's and Dj sets that this is a man who likes to push the boat out and then when its gone a safe distance blow it to bits with blatant disregard to anti-dynamite fishing laws. He tackles really tough to touch subject matter in his edits such as Led Zeppelin and Sufjan Stephens but he not only does it well he makes them memorable by not relying on the original but more by plundering elements to use as familiar bricks in an entirely new production. Having previously released on Wolf + Lamb Slow Hands is nestled right into the Wolf + Lamb family in New York and has a dedication that a lot of those artists seem to possess, perhaps they encourage each other, or compete with each other, star-sign dependant. He put out an impressive 17 Podcasts last year but this is the first non live output in 6 months and by the sounds of things he's been sitting on some serious golden eggs. His guestmix today is a varied journey of twists and sudden turns, setting the tone wonderfully from the get go with a John Talabot edit. In fact 2/3 of all the tracks in this mix are remix's, but thats neither here nor there. The arrival of Appaloosa – Patchwork (Bostro Pesopeo Remix) is when the tone is really set for what to expect, and that is to not know what to expect next. A real surprise was the inclusion of a Dj Harvey remix of a Canyons track. I've always preferred the Mic Newman version but the Harvey remix seems to sit perfectly in this mix, making me question my earlier convictions. The highlight for me however was the pairing of Jonas Rathsman – Feeling You into Pete Herbert/Golden Fleece – Ivory Waves (Sare Havlicek Remix). Neither track I'd heard before (yikes) but both I instantly nabbed. A lot of Dj's in this style play good music but they should consider the ante upped!
For our sixth AYLI podcast installment, we're excited to bring an exclusive mix by Slow Hands (Wolf + Lamb / Double Standard // NYC). Those of you that caught Ryan Cavanaugh AKA Slow Hands at the Compound (RIP) know exactly what to expect: a night of slow-mo disco jams that promise to fill the air with sexuality and dancing late into the night. We're honored he shared this mix with all of you and to bring him back to San Francisco. Recording is from Slow Hands at Solyanka Club, Moscow 9/9/11. Slow Hands will be performing Friday, December 16 at the Beatbox and look forward to seeing you there: http://www.residentadvisor.net/event.aspx?310652
