Episode 304: Water Buffalo, Space People & The Dumpster Fire of Fitness AdviceWelcome back to Happy Hour With Jay! Today, we're kicking things off with a shoutout to Steve Ricks—because real ones deserve recognition. Then, did you know water buffalo can hold their breath for five minutes? That's longer than most people can hold a plank—just saying.Next, we're diving into the absolute dumpster fire that is fitness advice on the internet. Social media might just be your worst enemy when it comes to getting fit, and I'm here to break down why. Then, astronauts (aka Space People) just spent 286 days in space, and I have some thoughts. Because, honestly, how do they do it?In the Reality TV corner, we're talking Temptation Island and Mark Walberg—no, not that one, the other one. And in the Jared Update, let's just say he's found a unique way to brush up on his Spanish (hint: it involves tacos).Speaking of tacos, imagine a perfect world where tortas don't make you fat—wouldn't that be nice? And finally, a gym story that'll make you rethink everything: The Gym vs. Victoria's Secret. Let's just say, young men today have no idea what a struggle it used to be.Closing things out with some motivation—because fear is a mile wide and an inch deep, and it's time to break through it.Grab your drink, sit back, and let's get into it—cheers!

David says that by understanding the reality of the experience your teams are having and getting real intelligence through research, FM and CRE leaders can evolve their approach to workplace design, rather than reverting to outdated models. Mike and David discuss helping people move from a defensive mindset to a discovery mindset so they can foster innovation and adapt to changing workplace strategies. SCOTT IS BACK!!!! We are so happy to have our pal back in the fold! Scott's Plan! He makes our world go round. Scott is on California time now and that doesn't always work out. Scott doesn't listen to the show even when he's on it. Michigan beat Ohio State over the weekend and Govier is thrilled about it! Scott was surrounded by Michigan people Saturday and he was ready to lose it. Scott breaks down his Thanksgiving, but it turns out he loves Christmas more than he ever let on! Scott and his family cut down their own Christmas tree every year as well. Can you do an impression of Luke? It's tougher than it seems. Luke has a bombshell for the audience. Scott is more concerned about the death of his own parents than he is about celebrity deaths. Are you surprised? There is little news to update Scott on since he's been gone. Of course we get to your emails! Sean has a couple examples to offer related to least likely outcomes in 2023. Do you know anybody who is mailing it in at their job? Or maybe it's you? We definitely do not break down Bob Iger returning to Disney. Eric Branstrom has a fascinating email about break rooms at work. Turns out we have a lot of opinions about this. Remember Gimme A Break with Nell Carter? Joey Lawrence does. Sean has another email for us related to Avatar 2 and the legacy of James Cameron. It's a true or false question which we rarely ever get. Luke's boring synopsis of Avatar reminds Govier of a YouTube classic from the 2000s. The immortal Space People! We are so grateful for Scott's return to the show! We love you people! We close today's show with Scott's choice from producer Steve Albini. The band is Shellack and the song is Prayer To God. In 1968 Gordon Creighton of Flying Saucer Review received a rather angry letter from a man named F.D. Marrow of Flemington, New Jersey. Marrow, a Klass apologist, was concerned that he was doing a disservice to UFO research by comparing UFOs and ghostly phenomenon. “On this basis UFOs will never communicate with the authorities or the average man, and we will have to depend on mediums, and others with so-called psychic insight for information – and of course such reports can never be substantiated.” As a response, in the September/October 1968 edition of Flying Saucer Review, Creighton published an article called “Strangers About the House” which detailed ghostly encounters with human resembling beings wearing space suits and appearing like TV images. Mediums contacting beings from “other worlds” was nothing new, and in fact, noted medium Vesta La Viesta did so in the 1800s. By the mid to late 1960s, new theories crept into mainstream UFO research, suggesting that these craft may not even be physical, but from dimensions unseen to the human eye. I'm joined by paranormal investigator Amanda Paulson, who has been investigating the paranormal for over 14 years, and is the star of the upcoming documentary, Death is With Me to discuss when UFOs and ghostly phenomenon cross the streams. We can not help but reflect on the multidisciplinary nature required to confront, develop and reform informal housing to human settlements. This sentiment is continental. In some areas more acute than others. Our guest today, Nobukhosi Ngwenya, takes us through these complexities, for us novices in this housing to human settlements trajectory.

Dr. Ray Wheeler is NASA’s Plant Physiologist and the lead for Advanced Life Support Research activities in the Exploration Research and Technology Program at Kennedy Space Center. He began his career at NASA in 1988 and the bulk of his research revolved around the use of hydroponic techniques for space farming experiments. One of Ray’s goals is to allow humanity to grow safe and nutritious crops off the Earth.   Ray joins me today to discuss some of NASA’s recent developments regarding planting crops in space. He shares some of the systems and tech that have been made commercial in the ag industry and explains why it’s difficult to experiment with plants in space. Ray also describes some of the benefits of being able to grow plants on other planets.     “We've been trying to manipulate the environment to accommodate plants. Now we have the tools to manipulate plants to fit into the environment.” - Dr. Ray Wheeler         This Week on The Future of Agriculture Podcast:   The research he's conducted that has made it in today's agriculture industry. How NASA helped in terrestrial applications of space farming. His recent projects that could be applied commercially in the future. Solving the ever-increasing CO2 emissions with space farming tech. Recent progress on the experimental planting chambers in space. Deciding which crops show promise for space production. The water content of Mars and the prospect of someday growing food there. The critical benefits of being able to grow plants in space. Recovering as much water as possible in space. The effects of low gravity environments on plant growth. His advice for people interested in space farming technology.     Resources Mentioned:   Agriculture for Space: People and Places Paving the Way     Connect with Dr. Ray Wheeler:   NASA LinkedIn           We Are a Part of a Bigger Family!    The Future of Agriculture Podcast is now part of the Farm and Rural Ag Network. EPISODE 13: All Night at the Spaceball PromFor the lucky 13th episode we thought what better way to celebrate than to have a Glam Rock throw down! Put on your lipstick, shower yourself in glitter, and put on your shiniest pair of tights because we’re having a vamped up prom stomp! We need to take a moment and talk serious! The world of glam was full of cross dressers, spaced-out dandies, and girls-who-wereboys-who-were-girls-who-were Space People! Keeping with that frame of mind we also want to remind our listeners about our motto: Be Weird, Stay Strange, and Remember to Take Care of One Another! We want any of you out there in the LGTBQ community, and other maligned peoples, to know, that in these dark times, where the cruelest hypocrites in the world are making life seem impossible, taking care of yourself, and other humans is a revolutionary act in itself! If you are struggling under these chances we are providing information on some support groups and suicide prevention hotlines! It’s important that all the weirdos and losers, the lovers and dreamers, destroyers and builders stick together and do what we can to build a better world!
