This episode features a passionate and critical discussion of the state of the NALC, with a primary focus on a recent executive council meeting. Corey begins by emphasizing that he is now speaking as the CLC's Director of Education, a deliberate shift to focus exclusively on educational topics, and then dives into the core subject of the episode which is a candid discussion about what he perceives as a constitutional crisis within the union. He criticizes Renfroe for his arrogance, which is damaging and divisive. He highlights an audio recording from a business agent, discussing why they dismissed charges against Renfroe and Barner. Corey then reads the text of the actual charges filed against President Renfroe and Executive Vice President Barner, which included allegations of failing to report official acts, neglecting convention resolutions, failing to initiate arbitration timely, bypassing required membership ratification, and failing to provide a complete report of acts. Corey argues that this was a violation of the constitution, and he has strong criticism for the Executive Council, accusing them of putting themselves before the best interests of the members. Corey ends by reiterating his call for the city letter carriers and the union to make changes and support those advocating for reforms. http://www.fromatoarbitration.com/

From A to Arbitration

Play Episode Listen Later Feb 18, 2025 103:28

This episode focuses on the detrimental actions of current NALC leadership, specifically President Brian Renfroe and Executive Vice President Paul Barner, and contrasts their behavior with the proactive, carrier-focused approach of the Concerned Letter Carriers (CLC). Corey details the CLC's recent training efforts, emphasizing their commitment to educating members and preparing them for future leadership roles. He criticizes Renfroe and Barner for their opposition to grievances and arbitrations, which he views as essential tools for protecting carriers' rights and securing financial remedies. He alleges that Renfroe is collaborating with management to reduce fixed office time, undermining carriers' efforts to combat the imposed one-hour office time metric. Corey highlights a template created by a business agent to fight the one-hour office time mandate. This template includes grievance language addressing violations of the national agreement, handbooks, and memorandums. It also emphasizes the importance of carrier statements to document the toxic work environment created by this policy. However, Corey expresses frustration that Renfroe is simultaneously negotiating to reduce fixed office time, rendering the template less effective. He further criticizes Renfroe for failing to inform carriers about upcoming street observations by a headquarters safety team, as detailed in a letter sent to Renfroe in December. This lack of communication is compared to a betrayal, leaving carriers vulnerable to disciplinary action. Corey also condemns Renfroe's apparent lack of concern for a murdered carrier, focusing instead on James Henry's presence at a memorial event. He criticizes Renfroe for relying on prepared statements and lacking genuine passion. The episode concludes with a discussion of a successful arbitration case where management was ordered to pay the arbitrator's full fees due to non-compliance with a Step B decision. The arbitrator cited USPS Policy Letter M-01517, establishing that compliance is not optional. However, Corey reveals that Barner, under pressure from national labor, convinced the arbitrator to amend the award and split the fees, a move Corey considers a major setback in the fight against non-compliance. He urges carriers to support the CLC in the upcoming election to oust the current leadership and restore a carrier-focused approach to union representation. He also promotes a uniform discount offered by a carrier-friendly vendor. Cites: https://fromatoarbitration.com/episodes-201-300/ http://www.fromatoarbitration.com/

Watching them dominate this past Sunday, I had Randall Cunningham memories flooding my mind. For former Eagle and Oregon Ducks' Hall of Famer Kenjon Barner, he too was going down memory lane this weekend. A member of the Super Bowl LII Champions in 2018, Kenjon holds a special place for Eagle fans and the City of Brotherly Love in his heart. He shared the impact of that team on the latest episode of the Y-Option podcast, sponsored by our founding partner 76.Barner, a 3-time Super Bowl champ, is one of two players in NFL history to have Super Bowl rings from 3 different franchises (along with Matt Millen) and each one was unique. From Philly when he was a return specialist to New England the following season when he was not even on the roster during the Super Bowl to being in Tampa Bay during the COVID season with Tom Brady, the path that Barner was on to garner 3 rings is as unique as any in the NFL.Like every player, Kenjon also navigated the transition from playing to life off the gridiron. Now, he hosts the podcast Ducks of a Feather, alongside former Oregon All-American running back Jonathan Stewart, where they share insights and analysis on the reigning B1G champions.Overall, our conversation is a positive listen for any player navigating recruiting while also providing a lens on life through the eyes of a player who has been at epic highs while navigating life post playing career and the natural lows that come with that.Hope you enjoy today's conversation with my colleague, friend and former Oregon Duck, Kenjon Barner.Much love and Stay Steady,YogiThis episode is executive produced by Jim Thornby and edited by Victor Ren.This podcast is a Best Coast Media productionY-Option: College Football with Yogi Roth is a reader-supported publication. Officers at the scene labeled it a crime scene but provided no further details. Officer S.A. Barner, the Cobb Police Department spokesperson, stated that the STEP unit is investigating the serious collision and promised a press release with more information as it becomes available. Stay tuned for updates.  STORY 2:  Challenger Takes Fundraising Lead over Superior Court Clerk  In the Cobb County Superior Clerk race, Republican Deborah Dance has overtaken Democratic incumbent Connie Taylor in fundraising. Initially trailing, Dance's donations surged to over $51,000 since July, while Taylor's remained stagnant at $21,175. Taylor's campaign has faced scrutiny due to controversies, including a judicial emergency in her office and allegations of mishandling passport fees. Dance's support includes significant contributions from local law firms and judges. Despite Taylor's initial lead, her performance has drawn criticism from both parties, with some Democrats endorsing Dance for her administrative capabilities. The election is set for next week.    STORY 3:  East Cobb, Acworth Voters Receive Incorrect Election Mailers  Cobb County voters in two precincts received mailers with incorrect voting locations. Affected areas include Acworth 1C and Roswell 02. Acworth 1C voters should go to the North Cobb Senior Center, while Roswell 02 voters should head to Mt. Zion Methodist Church. Voters must use their assigned polling place on Election Day, but can vote at any location during early voting, which ends Friday. Cobb Elections Director Tate Fall stated the error is being corrected and urged voters to verify their polling place online. CobbLinc launched a pilot microtransit program in south Cobb, offering on-demand, affordable rides similar to Uber but subsidized. The pilot aims to provide transit access to less dense areas, with $2 billion of the $11 billion transit tax allocated for microtransit. The service, CobbLinc Go, is praised for its convenience and low cost, but questions remain about its long-term feasibility and integration with other transit options. The tax also includes plans for rapid bus routes and new transit centers.  STORY 5:  Cupid Discusses Nondiscrimination Ordinance at LGBT Forum  Cobb Chairwoman Lisa Cupid discussed potential policy changes, including a countywide nondiscrimination ordinance, at an LGBTQ+ forum. Building on a previous meeting, Cupid suggested initiatives like recognizing Pride Month and increasing LGBTQ+ representation in board appointments. Community members were encouraged to engage with commissioners and support inclusive policies. The forum highlighted Cobb's past anti-LGBTQ+ stance and the need for local nondiscrimination laws, as federal protections are limited. Cupid acknowledged challenges in policy implementation and public support but emphasized the importance of pursuing inclusivity. The forum also addressed the potential impact of upcoming elections on these initiatives.    We'll be back in a moment     Break: Ingles Markets (Yogurt) (10)     And now here is Leah McGrath from Ingles Markets on picky toddlers     ***LEAH INTERVIEW*** INGLES 1 (PICKY TODDLER)***    We'll have closing comments after this.    Break: Marietta Theatre (06.10.24 MARIETTA THEATRE MARGARITAVILLE_FINAL)    Signoff-    Thanks again for hanging out with us on today's Marietta Daily Journal Podcast. The Offensive Vibes Starts at 1:00 We've beaten the college football game, now it's just side quests. Let's try to be chill about it now? New conferences: not going to get married to them because they're just going to blow this up too. "Big Ten Championship Game" is unlikely to be a game that solves anything. What is this Michigan team's route to a championship? 2021 Georgia: supreme defense, offense is a ridiculous tight ends. [The rest of the writeup and the player after THE JUMP] 2. Quarterback & the Offensive Design? Starts at 21:57 Michigan doesn't go in the portal because there wasn't anybody left worth getting last January when JJ was still here and Michigan was still going to a natty. Means they would have gone. Orji separated himself, Tuttle gets hurt too much so they're looking at Davis Warren as the second quarterback. What's the offense? Seth: Let's look at Cam Newton-era Auburn, with BASH/inverted veer and lots of pin & pull and motion to create matchups with all of our weird guys: the QB is a RB, the RB is a WR, the other RB is a FB, the FB is a TE, the TE is a WR, one WR is an RB. News: there's going to be a Washington UFR from Brian. 3. Running Back, Receiver & Tight End Starts at 53:20 Donovan Edwards was pressing last year and it cut 300 yards off his totals. When he's in a groove (Purdue 2022) he's a touchdown waiting to happen. When he's not in a groove he gets LBs going insane and becomes also a touchdown waiting to happen. Mullings is That Dude: Every time he's involved in a play something interesting happens. It's a big deal for Jordan Marshall if he's RB3 because that's passing some big dudes. They say he's the Edwards backup and Ben Hall, who we love, is the Mullings backup. What does that mean? Not much because Marshall is Hart. Receiver: Tyler Morris should be a good, knows how to get open and catches it. Semaj Morgan is going to be fun, but ideally they had a Braylon type deep guy. Amorion Walker should redshirt finally. Colston Loveland is the key: they can move him around because he's a mismatch on everyone, has every QB in line at his door. Bredeson is the best FB Brian's ever charted, how many snaps for him? Marlin Klein hype: do you believe? We believe he'll be a fast TE but not a Barner blocker. 4. Hot Takes, Offensive Line and Style Starts at 1:55:30 This is the most comfortable anybody's ever been after graduating all five OL. Myles Hinton was basically a freshman last year because Stanford coaching is that bad (attn: Babalola). Josh Priebe is a tough sonsabitch. Crippen is probably the center but Raheem Anderson is your next OL if someone inside gets hurt. Gio El-Hadi should ascend and be pretty good—usually you don't get to wait until he's this far along to start him. Right tackle is giving us bad vibes; if Gentry was going to get the job he would have seized it right? Persi makes more sense—Hayes took awhile to grow from a TE as well. Link competing now is good for Link, not for the other two. Most of the topics are pulled from the headlines and are covered as heavily researched solo pods. Don't worry though - there isn't a dull moment. Dial P for Procurement provides up to the moment storytelling about trending supply chain and general business news. Things Discussed: Al Borges has groupies. Iowa takeaways: 26-0 was good. Can't be 26-3, needed to come down after the intensity of OSU. Offense missed some opportunities: get a catch from Barner or Loveland and it looks different. Love that they gave Semaj Morgan another chance to get on the mic. Using Edwards: get him running, not reading. Sainristil: He's going to be drafted. Iowa: yes, but there were non-Iowa moments. He's playing cornerback very well. Portal talk: Not worried about Trente anymore. Walter Nolen? Sam says they need clarity on whether he's even in the portal. Hard to move on a QB when you don't know what you've got. They're in on the OL from A&M. Can't offer starting spots. CFP: Absolutely got it wrong. FSU had a better end to the season than Alabama, their 2nd string QB will be back, all of the arguments for Alabama are ridiculous post-hoc excuses for putting an SEC team in the Playoff. Michigan ends up better off because Texas is a tougher matchup than Bama for Michigan. How good you are is what you've done this season. They put Cincy and MSU in the Playoff; they've never chosen the S&P+ teams—always the most deserving. Brian: If Michigan wins out Harbaugh should offer to split it with FSU. If Alabama and FSU win out, FSU should be the national champion. Hoops: Defense isn't the sum of their parts.

Offense vs Nebraska Starts at 1:00 There are people saying Michigan runs TOO MANY flea flickers?? It's hard to win 45-7 when you play at the pace that Michigan plays at. This game was domination. Kalel Mullings emerged, De'Veon Smith but fast? Donovan Edwards showed improvement, despite what the stats might show. LaDarius Henderson played most of the game, maybe he just needed some time to get broken in since he played guard last year and wasn't at Michigan in the spring. JJ McCarthy didn't seem phased by the windy conditions. The Nebraska run defense might hold up against Penn State? The passing game bread and butter is a 15 yard dig route. Bredeson and Barner are A+ blockers.  [The rest of the writeup and the player after THE JUMP] 2. Defense vs Nebraska Starts at 46:06 There was a Nebraska highlight reel at halftime that involved three plays. Kris Jenkins was not blocked at all. Nebraska's left tackle scored a zero in PFF two years ago. Will Johnson got beat in man coverage which isn't great! Ernest Hausmann played a great game in his old stadium, was called a traitor by someone in the stands. Zone drops need improvement by defensive ends. Otherwise not much else to complain about.  3. Hot Takes, Game Theory, and Special Teams Starts at 1:08:57 Takes hotter than Lincoln, Nebraska in October (for some reason). Dave attended this game and describes the Nebraska experience. Their fans are as nice as advertised and have great shirts. JJ was also very nice in this game for reasons discussed. Per Blake Corum, this game was buttery and sweet. Dorks! Tommy Doman startled the commentators with a punt. Not much to discuss in terms of game theory (besides Nebraska timeout usage).  4. Around the Big Ten with Jamie Mac Starts at 1:37:49 Minnesota - 35 Louisiana - 24 Louisiana outgains Minnesota, that can't feel good with Michigan coming up. By the 3rd quarter, Minnesota took control. Based on Minnesota vs Northwestern and Nebraska, this probably won't be a competitive game coming up.  Iowa - 26 Michigan State - 16 Iowa gets 26 points but their offensive net contribution is 10. But hey, they got their goal of >25 points! Michigan State outgains Iowa but throws three interceptions. This was just a hideous game.  Penn State - 41 Northwestern - 13 This game was tied at halftime but Penn State really put it away in the second half. It's hard to think that Penn State's offensive line will do much against Michigan. 31 of 63 of Northwestern's offensive plays went for one yard or less. Penn State sort of ran a fake kneel down to beat the spread. That doesn't seem like a team that seems confident enough to beat Ohio State.  Purdue - 44 Illinois - 19 Lots of penalties for Illinois. One third of Illinois' yards came in the last nine minutes. This is a year zero for Purdue which makes this more impressive.  Maryland - 44 Indiana - 17 This was ugly, feels like Tom Allen's swan song. Maryland is 5-0 and is looking decent, but they probably won't have the lines to compete with Ohio State this weekend.  Rutgers - 52 Wagner - 3 MUSIC: “Dead Fox”— Courtney Barnett “Eye On The Bat”— Palehound “Find Me in the Air”—  The Builders and the Butchers “Across 110th Street”

Things Discussed: BGSU: The interceptions! Brian says he was wrong and Seth/Devin/Butt/Everyone else was right that Barner drifted too far back. Was that on Barner or the design? Barner, also Barnhart getting beat and JJ didn't put it where he wanted to. Second INT: Johnson has to run his route even if Wilson was the right read. Third INT: Shoot your shot! Sam/Craig/Program disagree. BGSU: The run game. We love Henderson's reach. He seems to be comfortable. Guess is Barnhart/Zinter is their best combination on the right side and that means they go with the next left tackle, who is Henderson. BGSU: The defense. Nobody wants any part of these DTs—third straight opponent throwing most of their offense in the recycling bin because they can't block inside. Graham is the best. Jenkins is a star. Grant is a freak. Don't sleep on Benny. Goode had a good game. We even like Trey Pierce. Rutgers: They have a real defense. Michigan is going to take them seriously. Their offense need not be. Gene Smith goes to Congress. Real talk: The Congressional Black Caucus was going to craft federal legislation because the states were all going with different rules, but anything other than that is just grandstanding. The reason the NCAA is there is to see if they can grasp something they don't deserve and nobody wants them to have from the fact that half of Washington is for sale, but what they don't realize is they are too toxic for anyone but Ted Cruz to take their money. MSU? They should try to get a guy who's not in a job this year and get him to start recruiting because they're headed for a Year Zero. The upshot of being Transfer U is those guys can't transfer again. Mel Tucker is getting paid off because if they don't there's going to be Discovery.

James Maddox was driving the Mack 700 dump truck when the bed of the truck fully extended into the up position around 4:50 a.m. Wednesday, according to Shenise Barner, spokesperson for Cobb police. The truck bed collided with the train bridge crossing over Atlanta Road, causing the truck to turn onto its left side, Barner added. Maddox was ejected from the truck and pronounced dead at the scene of the crash by the Cobb County Medical Examiner's Office. The collision remains under investigation. Anyone with additional information regarding the crash is asked to contact investigators. While the season comes to an end for Region 5AAAAAAA champion Osborne, Denmark – the fourth seed from 6AAAAAAA – will play at Collins Hill in the second round next Tuesday.
