In this episode, we continue talking with life coach Tallia Deljou. We got in-depth with everything about relationships: the importance of open-communication and how reciprocating effort matters a lot. Then, we discuss our beliefs about ourselves and how we protect ourselves from emotional pain through a little workshop called the “Protector Profile”. [4:30] Navigating personalities “People are complicated; there are layers to people…I think we both just had this new found curiosity to see beyond of what we thought of each other.” [10:08] Open communication “I think the most important part of a relationship is the ability to know what those needs are, and then to articulate them, ask for them, and then receive it when that does happen.” [20:53] Holding up the mirror “We can't see outside of ourselves, you know. So to be able to be that mirror for someone and say ‘Here's what I'm noticing'…that was the most proactive conversation we ever had. [28:47] Inner child shows up in relationships “In an effort to prevent that pain from happening again, these other parts of us are gonna do anything in our power to make sure… we know how that feels and we're not doing that again.” [41:05] The Protector Profile “The pressure and the expectation that we're then placing on something outside of ourselves… to fill this very deep hole and heal this very deep wound within us, that's when it gets to be a very slippery slope.” Follow Tallia on instagram @talliadeljou Please download, rate & review this episode and share it with friends! In this episode, we speak with life coach Tallia Deljou, as she talks about the art of “Inner child work” and “Internal Family Systems”. She focuses on how our childhood needs affect our adulthood, why we tend to blame ourselves for the way we feel, the impact of our parents to our childhood, and how we can cope and heal from the wounds of our inner child. [5:31] Inner child work “For me, the inner child work is in understanding the needs that were never met, in those formative years, under the age of 10. When certain needs go unmet, we fill in the blank, and we create beliefs about ourselves.” [13:06] The formative stage “I think the tricky part about the stories that we create when we're younger, is that we often don't have the ability to communicate our needs” [24:22] Rewriting our story “…the shift into adulthood for me is where I realized ‘Okay, it's now my job to fill this need', ‘It's now my job to be the parent to myself', ‘It's now my job to go inside and heal this wound'. That, I think, was the turning point.” [35:13] Reshaping our memory “Day to day, my work with this inner child part of me is to continuously validate my own feelings…So now I'm like the first to be with myself in those moments and say ‘Yeah, that feeling makes sense'.” [41:57] Parenting and Feedbacks “I think it's safe to assume that most parents, if not all parents, have an insecurity around the way they parented and if there is something they could have done better and if they did something wrong.” [52:30] In control of feelings “My mom never told me that my feelings didn't matter; I made that up, because that's how I interpreted her words or her lack of words.” [1:07:02] Timing is everything “You can't rush your healing because there's a lesson that I will only be ready to learn when I'm 40. And I have to let life happen; I have to let time pass for me to be ready to receive that lesson.” Follow Tallia on instagram @talliadeljou Please download, rate & review this episode and share it with friends! This week we sit down with positive psychology expert and transformational life coach, Tallia Deljou. Our 3 biggest lessons learned from the conversation that every woman person needs to hear are:Asking yourself are you buying into fear or are you buying into vision? There's no right or wrong answer, but knowing where you are helps figure out all the rest.Options are a noun. Choice is a verb. Knowing that ‘ready' isn't a feeling, it's a decision.Damn OKKKK.When talking through what these mean for Tallia individually, as well as in her work, she shares a few exercises that we've carried with us this week, and invite you to do along with us (if you do, give us a tag on Insta @itallpodcast). Write a letter to fear. All fear wants is to be acknowledged. In this letter, you tell fear 3 things:Gratitude - I see and appreciate you. Here is how you are getting in the way. What fear needs to hear to move aside; perhaps, “I've got this.”When doing this exercise, Tallia also suggests asking and answering, “What are you clinging on to out of fear that nothing will take its place.” Said another way, is there a limiting belief or scarcity mindset at play that says you will never have more than you do right now?Real talk: this one had us f*cked up for a few days.Listen. And then listen again.X, K+K

This is a subject matter I'm incredibly passionate about, and that's purpose! It's the cornerstone of my methodology because we need purpose to serve as our guiding light when things don't seem all that certain or when adversity strikes. My guest today is Tallia Deljou and finding purpose is something she dedicates her life to and coaches her clients on how to ask smarter questions to really step away from your “work” or “parent” identity and really find what's true and impactful for you. In this episode, we learn about purpose. How you define it, how you find it, why it's important, and so much more! People often think they've found purpose, but the moment they lose their job, or retire, or their children move out of the home, their purpose seems to crumble. Tallia offers insight on how to cultivate purpose that's so sustainable that it doesn't matter when you walk away from an identity, you can still live an authentic and meaningful life. Key Takeaways: [1:20] About today's episode with Tallia Deljou. [2:45] Welcoming Tallia to the podcast. [5:45] How does Tallia define purpose? [8:20] How do you really live a life of purpose when you have student loans, kids, and adult responsibilities? [11:10] Is purpose a privilege? Don't get in your own way. Don't let this mindset stop you from striving for purpose. [14:00] Everyone here has the permission to pursue their purpose. [15:35] Your roles and identity are constantly changing. That doesn't mean you picked the wrong path. [17:55] People convince themselves they have to pick. In reality, you can have both. [18:50] You get to write your own rules. [19:00] How do we know when we've found our purpose or are just following a path we think society wants for us? [21:35] List out all the different roles and personas you play in your daily life, whether that be as a spouse, a parent, a daughter/son to your parents, your friends, and more. [26:55] When you have a purpose, you don't pool everything you have into one identity. [28:55] When your loved ones give you good advice, you still need to have a filter to see what parts of that information are true or relevant for you and where you are in life. [31:10] Rapid fire questions! Tallia shares a book that's really impacted her this year. Today’s guest on the show is positive psychology expert and transformational coach, Tallia Deljou. Rooted in her background in psychology, mindfulness-based stress reduction, and deep transformational coaching, she supports clients in connecting to and embodying their authentic selves. Tallia is an expert at showing others how we shape our identities, define who we are, and how we can optimize our experiences in order to lead a high-quality life. On this episode, she’s going to break down how we find purpose and ensure our actions are aligned with our mentality. Tallia first shares with us her story and what’s at the core of what she does. She explains what ‘a hole in the heart’ means. ‘A hole in the heart’ is a concept in the world of positive psychology that is based on the idea that a problem you have faced in your life leads you to want to solve that problem--to ‘fill’ that hole. For her, she grew up in a space where external things defined internal worth. So, she’s in the business of helping others get a solid foundation that comes from within. Tallia talks a bit about how we can release circumstances in our lives that no longer serve us. You have to be willing to be unpopular. When you live and stand in your truth, you are going to have some people who don’t approve. This is a people-pleasing conversation. A big part of being visible is understanding that you have to be ready to not satisfy every person out there. Like Michael Jordan said, why worry about missing the shot before you’ve even taken it? There’s no need to worry if what you’re putting out in the world is going to accepted if you haven’t put it out there yet! The truth is, Tallia says, is that it’s not about you. And when you aren’t visible, you aren’t doing anyone any service. If you’re hiding, you’re hurting. There are people out there who are waiting to hear what you have to say. When you’re in the mindset that it’s about you, you struggle with them. And when you do that, you disallow your audience to grow themselves. Finally, Elyse and Tallia discuss action versus aligned action. In the end, the question is this: is it a ‘should’ or a ‘must.’ If the action is a ‘should’ it can feel heavy and shallow. Whereas a ‘must’ is much more gentle. Think about how to action is related to your being? Is it serving you? We spent this past month learning about what I might even call my favorite theme yet, live with purpose. I hope you come away from the fantastic interviews this month knowing you don't need to find your purpose, you already have it. At first I wasn't sure if the theme was relevant given the current pandemic, but this community showed up and showed me the real importance of infecting purpose into our every day lives. As always, in addition to the "Dear Progressor," listener submissions I share what's going on in the Packer home and how I got schooled this month. We have (obviously) been spending tons of time at home and as a family, but a few things we do almost daily have really meant the most to me. I'm even considering permanently keeping a new change! There was so much to be learned from this month's interviews, but I'm boiling down what stood out most to me. Sara Dean and Tallia Deljou mentioned perusing a book store as a way to better know your interests - so hopefully we can all get out and do that soon, right?! I also share the episode I thought would be met with more controversy, but was instead widely embraced. Of course our listener submission adds even more to what I share. Tune in and let me know, what do you think of this episode format? Trying to decide what the future holds for it! About a few other things... With all this time we have been spending at home, some of my organization struggles have been on the forefront of my mind. This is a power-packed episode meant to teach you how to play off your strengths, to add purpose to your present life. If that sentence, or just the title, has you bringing up your guards, wait just a second! All the questions you need to ask yourself are here for you to use right away, to learn how your strengths can guide your path. Tallia Deljou is a coach and podcaster with a background in positive psychology. Her bright perspective on helping women find joy in their purpose and strengths is evident. This interview also does not shy away from the depths this type of journey can take, but is equipped with the tools to help you. For many women the simple question of "What are your strengths?" isn't so simple at all. Everyone has their own personal story for why that is, but we can all learn how to find an answer. It starts with understanding fear, then considering skills versus strengths and ultimately challenging ourselves to continue in purpose. As you tune in, keep a mental or physical list to narrow in on your strengths and let them serve you on your path. About a few other things... My daughter used to struggle so much with math, it was often a battle to get her to finish her work. But for several months we've been using Revolution Math (paid for with my own money!) to provide her small group tutoring that she now actually looks forward to doing. Use code 'ABOUTPROGRESS' to get the starter kit and first month for only $1. With all this time we have been spending at home, some of my organization struggles have been on the forefront of my mind. Many of us connect our sense of self-worth to our work. But the current global pandemic has impacted many people’s idea of their value. The tools to cope with these feelings are within everyone. Today’s guest is going to tell you how to harness this inner power. Tallia Deljou is a positive psychology expert and personal development coach. As such, she helps people make space for positive change. Rooted in her background in psychology, mindfulness-based stress reduction, and transformational coaching, Tallia supports clients in connecting to and embodying their authentic selves, making space to explore the deepest facets of who we are to cultivate a meaningful and rich inner life. Tallia discusses the implications that unexpected turns of events have on our sense of identity. She describes exercises that we can do to remind ourselves that we are complex beings. We are much more than our jobs. Identifying the constants in our lives reminds us of our true value. We talk about shifting your mindset around downtime. Many people are finding themselves with more time on their hands than usual. Tallia advises using this time to think about who you want to be, not what you want to do. By cultivating curiosity about your natural tendencies, you may notice what is truly important to your wellbeing. This all requires lots of introspection. It means noticing the source of your fears, how you deal with discomfort, choosing who you want to be, and recognizing what is beyond your control. Doing this without self-judgment is a powerful way to build a resilient sense of self-worth. Where does your self-worth lie outside of your work? Share in the comments on the episode page! In this episode Finding your sense of self-worth outside of your work Shifting your mindset to use downtime in healthy yet fulfilling ways Staying grounded when you feel powerless by creating structure Identifying and moving beyond your limiting beliefs Recognizing your stress without letting it overwhelm you The difference between mindfulness and meditation Quotes “These roles are just different expressions of you. You are not the role. You are what brings life into the role.” [5:36] “It’s easy to forget that we have a choice. When we lose that piece of it, we fall into powerlessness. That’s okay if that’s where you’re at right now. Just notice it, but recognize that you can choose differently.” [13:33] “There’s a distinct point at which you start to recognize that your power does not come from anything outside of you. Instead, it comes from within you.” [23:10] “You are choosing your thoughts. You are choosing how you feel. No one else is responsible for your feelings.” [32:46] Links Find Tallia Deljou online Follow Tallia on Instagram Sincerely, Me podcast The Crossroads of Should and Must by Ella Luna The Power of Receiving by Amanda Owen Check out the full show notes for this episode here Urban Wellness Clinic Follow Emily & Urban Wellness on Facebook | Twitter | Instagram | YouTube

Welcome back to a very special episode of the Instant Impact Podcast with Elyse Archer. Today’s episode is something a little different; Elyse is swapping sides of the table from the interviewer to interviewee. Elyse was a guest on Sincerely, Me with Tallia Deljou, a Forbes-featured podcast about self-discovery and inner work so you can cultivate a deeper relationship with yourself and show up more fully in your work and life. Elyse dives deep into her experiences and the lessons she learned as she evolved through adversity. Elyse offers a window into some of the challenges she faced growing up, and how some influential moments in her childhood, young adult, and current life have shaped her into the woman she has become today. She shares her insight into the timing of making massive changes in both the professional and personal spheres, and how those very upheavals can become a pathway to upleveling your life. By focusing on gratitude, Elyse explains how we can leave our legacy and be remembered for who we are and the impact we’ve had on the people around us. Elyse tells us what it meant to her to untangle herself from who she thought she was supposed to be. What you’ll take away Today’s episode is not only a window into some of the experiences that have shaped who Elyse is, but it’s a valuable practice in checks and balances as we grow and change through adversity.
