About This Episode: Retired United States Army Staff Sergeant Travis Mills of the 82nd Airborne is a recalibrated warrior, motivational speaker, actor, author and an advocate for veterans and amputees. Brandon Handley 0:02 What is up? What is spiritual dope? Today, we are going to talk about, we're going to talk about this word numinous. We're gonna talk about this word numinous. And we're gonna start off just like this, we're gonna jump right into it, and we're going to take your entire life experience can most likely be summed up in a couple of words, you probably have just a few words that you would use to convey the entirety of it. And at most, you refer to specific moments in time, seasons, segments of the whole, what we fill those moments with? Is it possible for you to fill them up with a story of how they were, or the stories flat draw without any true depth, like a pothole versus a lake? Right. Oftentimes, you feel slightly detached and sometimes you may feel powerless or overwhelmed. You feel as though the universe is swallow you whole, without even taking a moment to savor the delight dish you feel like this oblivious to any onlooker yet do you have a desire Unknown Speaker 1:08 you have a knowing Brandon Handley 1:10 there are moments in your seasons that that's the sometimes they just don't make the cover no so your story there are moments in life where you're completely in tune with who you are seemingly in sync with all of the universe. I'd like to think that maybe it's a moment we sing along with your favorite song and your heart pulses in a different frequency. a surge of what it feels like in love emotes from from your entire body. Maybe you were dancing last night was pure magic. Can you dance through the entire evening and, and each move was a release of pure energy that moves your body in line with the cosmos. It could be as simple as revelation, like a moment I like in jujitsu. It's it's a tiny inhale that expands your chest. It's so cool. able to finish up the choke. moments like this have certainly been. They've been considered being in flow, a term that was coined by psychologists my highly Jakob his last name, cissna, Nima, Holly, whatever. Look, if you look up flow, you'll find this guy maoli and describes optimal experience. He says during flow, people typically experience deep enjoyment, creativity and a total involvement with life. Now, I'm going to use the word numinous. I'm in kind of like tandem with flow. And that feeling of a numinous means according to Merriam Webster, it's it's supernatural, filled with the sense of the presence of divinity or holy or appealing to the higher emotions and to the aesthetics. sense spiritual. And the words arrived from the Latin word Newman, meaning Divine Will or not, it's just a figurative nodding of or the ascent or of command of the Divine head. This is a state of being that can be mimicked by drug use, or drinking or just you know, pure intoxication. Unknown Speaker 3:25 mimicked Brandon Handley 3:26 right, in short, going out of your mind, so that you know you're able to experience yourself and I like to, I like to segment those two words yourself because they in this context is two different two different pieces. And look, you know, intoxication is not sustainable. And it's certainly fraught with its own sets of dangers and in an untruth, asked me how I know, you know, truly pales in comparison to know this true experience of Numinous But it is a version of it right? I will say that. But imagine being able to access the space within you this this feeling of Numinous that will a connectedness that is indeed supernatural by comparison to your natural being your everyday default position and then we that we discussed towards the beginning of this one right we just we just being and it's kind of flat as draw and just living kind of Jesus to existing it's all default. Now this this word numinous is a very word that Carl Jung used to describe his own experience with the divine. And he lifted the word from professor of theology, Rudolf Otto. He felt that there was a need for a specialized word to describe the concept of holy without, without moral without the morality factor without moral factor. I think that's kind of interesting, right? Because most people feel like there's got to be, you're not allowed to feel that space, unless you've been morally correct your entire life. So, and I love how young defines it as a dynamic agency or effect not caused by an arbitrary act of will, the humanism, whatever its cause maybe is an experience of the subject independent of their will. The humanism is either a quality belonging to a visible object or the influence of an invisible presence that causes a peculiar alteration of consciousness. And, you know, it was Young's thinking that this is either a quality inherent to an object or an experience that comes over person, often inadvertently. So what's happening here, so, let's know some kernels of truth. Yeah, yeah, there's there are many of these moments. feelings and newness, newness. They Come unbidden or john calls out inadvertently. In physical nature, this is what you may call to me he has What? You one reference point is kind of like when you're hitting your stride again, going back to flow. This is a it's a similar feeling. But not 100% the same. And let me see, I can't remember if I get to that or not. So, and this is again, I'm saying that so that you understand that that's kind of the sensation or somewhat of a state of ecstasy. Right. So, but not you imagine this feeling coming over you Only you haven't been running. You haven't been dancing. It is a feeling as Jung says all of his work with his patients, as though as he as he watched their complexities and confronted their unconscious that feeds the hunger of the soul and provides feelings of liberation. relief. It's like this just weight, this weight comes off of you. And you're relieved and and Okay, and liberty is just as he said. And it obviously obviously you can hear the struggle in my voice as I tried to describe it for you. But what I want to do is couch it for you so that should you ever find yourself feeling these things or in a certain way that you're not losing your shit, right that you're you're you're in a known space. And it's so well known that, you know, this is a feeling that it goes hand in hand with Joseph Campbell's work and emphasizes the call of the hero. And as young states it's a feeling that while ineffable it's also and I love this word called it any any loose, right, it cannot be resisted. It can be be ignored. And just like when the called the heroes resisted this, there's the refusal. The call, refusing the call can can certainly have grave consequences for both the hero and the wider world. I always I would always say, you know, if you don't step into your greatness if you don't share what so what's calling to be shared through you? Do your there's somebody out there waiting for you, right? There's somebody out there that need you to step into your greatness, whatever that means for you, right? That's the call of the hero. Then somebody else is being impacted because you are not acting. Right. You can see heroes who have who certainly refuse to call stories like Sodom and Gomorrah were lots more Wife is turned to a pillar assault looking back the burning cities after God told her not to or of the medieval legend, the wandering Jew who was cursed to walk the earth until Christ returned as penance for having taunted mankind's Redeemer on his way to crucification. And don't be wrong guys. I'm looking for stories to relate this I don't know these stories myself, but if they're speaking to you, and I hope that they do you know, that that's those are some of the a couple of the stories. Right. And, but understand, Unknown Speaker 9:32 also, Brandon Handley 9:34 that the refusal is generally human nature and it's not final. The call will continue. It doesn't stop just once you try to suppress it for the first time. And you see this illustrated in a Star Wars which, you know, for those who don't know, already, is really when Joseph Campbell's work kind of came to light in the call the hero because That's the hero's journey. And we see Luke refers refused the call first, right? He says, I can't get involved. I've got work to do, right. And he leaves and his refusal to the call takes him back home. And he realizes that the destruction of his home, which he may have never even seen, we're seeing Unknown Speaker 10:21 in the first place had he accepted the call at first. Brandon Handley 10:26 Now, the refusal also seems to indicate like a humble nature Unknown Speaker 10:31 of fear of the unknown for your human Brandon Handley 10:33 right. Sometimes if you don't heed that call, or have to overcome that fear that that initial fear, then some people may see you as arrogant or, you know, maybe oblivious or maybe even dumb, I don't know, right. But again, I'm gonna use pieces of my own story. My first podcast, it was scary. First time we're going to release to reach out to one Talk to people. It was terrifying. terrifying. You know, I had no idea Unknown Speaker 11:09 what would even come out, Brandon Handley 11:11 and I had no idea whose lives I could or would touch were impacted, let alone my own. So Unknown Speaker 11:19 if you do continue to refuse, Brandon Handley 11:22 there's the regret that you always hear people talking about on their deathbed that they regret that they didn't do X, Y or Z or they'd never tried to do more, they live more, spend more time with their family, go to that baseball game, kissed that girl. Do whatever, Unknown Speaker 11:40 right you have this life of regret Brandon Handley 11:44 because you're not giving in to this impelling force within you. That is life. But we'll get back to young here. He noticed that when he was talking to those who ignored this call, things started to go badly eventually leading physical symptoms as the self do this, the internal self tries continues to try to get the individual's attention. The sensation of flow, as I stated at first is very similar to unbidden. But there are many ways to find yourself in this state of flow. Now, if you can recognize the state of flow and the way that is entered your life, you now have this just what I'd like to call a keyhole that you can look through and see what this feeling is like. Now, the next aspect of this numinous feeling it's a it's a challenge to time it right? You don't know exactly when it's come because like it comes in advertently, right? You don't know when it's gonna come. However, I want you to be able to recognize it. Like I keep saying, for what it is when it shows up, or again, if it has already shown up and maybe you've done your damnedest to this dismiss it, know that it will not disperse without you're attempting to shut it down through unnatural ways, through drugs through drinking through through whatever, you know, suppression, escapism all these things. To me that's also many will call in awakening, a rebirth or resurrection. And I love how psychoanalyst coffered Graf Durkheim states it just because right? He states like this, let us not forget that an experience of awakening does not create an awakened person. The doors open towards the mystery within, you are on the path of initiation, but it is a beginning, Unknown Speaker 13:45 not Brandon Handley 13:46 an end. And should you finally decide to accept you will with time, gradually integrate matter in spirit and you will integrate matter in spirit Otherwise, you know, the disconnected human sight. And you'll be able to with practice, you know, meditation, chanting, reading, martial arts, you'll be able to sit in this numinous space. You heard through this podcast of flow, right, which is quite similar to the numinous state, and you also heard the call of the hero. If you've experienced flow states, you're on the precipice, right? And if you can recognize what puts you into flow states, you're not too far off in my in my opinion, and from my own experience of the numinous. Right? And would you say that maybe, I would say that you can experience them at will. I mean, these are Yogi's, I'm not saying that this is not. I can't say at this point in my life that you know, that Satori, or you know, Nirvana. You know, Nirvana means something Blow out your head right blood blowing your mind is one of the one of the states so Unknown Speaker 15:06 I think that that's possible. Brandon Handley 15:20 And again, I share all this because if you have felt the touches the tengiz of any of this and you feel like you might be gone easy. You feel like you might be losing your shit. You feel like this is a midlife crisis. You feel like you're in a Crux or situation. I disagree. College disagrees. Joseph Campbell disagrees. There's many many many, many others out there who would disagree. This is this is your state of being this kind of being awoken your your life force within you looking to expand beyond the constraints, right? Today we have the awesome privilege to hear from Travis Mills, a US Army Staff Sergeant, who in 2012 suffered a catastrophic injury that left him as a quadruple amputee. That’s right, he has no arms or legs and is one of only five servicemen from the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan ever to survive quadruple amputee injuries. I reached out to him when I started this podcast back in October because I had seen him speak and was incredibly inspired by his positivity, hopefulness, and most importantly, his sense of humor. Hänen kanssaan keskusteltiin fyysisten levyjen julkaisun yhteydessä huomioitavasta luparallista, joka ei loppujen lopuksi olekaan niin ylivoimainen mörkö jolta se aluksi ehkä vaikuttaa. Evil Bastards from Hell – Satan's Minions (Valkeakoski, glam rock) Evil Bastards From Hell on saatanallisen iskevää 80's -tyylistä glam metallia modernilla otteella.  Bändi alotti minun (Velkku) ja veljeni (Veijo) makuuhuonerokkiprojektina 2009 Valkeakoskella. Tyylejä käytiin läpi Motörhead/Ramones-plagiaatiosta funkiin, mutta löydettyämme glam metal -hommelit n.2014 ollaan edelleen sillä tiellä.  2016 julkasimme kokopitkän levyn vielä ihan kaksistaan, mutta samana vuonna saatiin basisti Kim ja Nas rumpuihin, molemmat minun vanhoja rinnakkaisluokkalaisia yläasteelta. Väännettiin koko bändin voimin viiden biisin EP joka julkaistiin 2018. Lisää kamaa on sävellyksen ja sovituksen alla! Ollaan keikkailtu vuodesta 2016 ja ainakin parikymmentä esiintymistä on takana. Mieleenjäävimpinä keikkoina henk.koht. varmaankin bändikisa Lohjalla, missä oli yleisönä vain muut bändit, ensimmäinen ulkoilmakeikka Lempäälän Myllyrannassa sekä eka kerta Jack The Roosterissa Tampereella, paikka jossa on itse käynyt katsomassa lempibändejäni.  LINKIT:  Linkit musaamme ja some-sivuille löytyy täältä!  PARASTA KOTIKULMILLA: – Parasta Valkeakoskella on bändikämpän halpa vuokra...  ei vaan, kyllähän Koskissa on mukava asua kun löytyy palveluita keilahallista elokuvateatteriin ja juottoloihin ilman, että tarvitsisi lähteä Tampereelle asti aina viihtymään. Vuoden kohokohta Koskissa on eittämättä työväen musiikkitapahtuma, jolloin koko kylä herää eloon muutamaksi päiväksi. – Paras kuppila on varmaankin Panama, jossa ollaan varmaan neljä kertaa esiinnyttykin. Kaskas – Kaupunki ja sen valot (Viiala, poprock) Kaskas Viialasta on ollut kasassa jo 12 vuotta, mutta vasta viime vuosina rohkeus ja innostus tehdä omaa musaa on syrjäyttännyt muun soittelun. Meitä on kolme kohta 30-vuotiasta naista, kitara, basso, rummut ja "erikoisuutena" rumpali on lead-laulaja. Soitetaan punkahtavaa suomirokkia, manserokin boxiinkin meitä on soviteltu.  Uutta musaa syntyy jatkuvasti, ja niistä pääsee nauttimaan meidän keikoilla. Markus Lapsi – Juhannuslavan laulu (Tampere, laulaja-lauluntekijä) Markus Lapsi on syntynyt sooloprojektiksi erottautuakseen aiemmasta sooloprojektistani Pääskystä, joka on jo aikapäiviä sitten eskaloitunut varsinaiseksi orkesteriksi. Pöytälaatikkoni oli täynnä muuhun kelpaamattomia aihioita, joista sitten alkoikin muotoutua itsellekin kelpaavaa materiaalia, kun niitä ei yrittänyt laittaa aiempaan muottiin. Markus Lapsi on entistä avoimemmin henkilökohtaista musiikkia, kun aiemmassa musiikissani on vaihdeltu kertomusten ja erilaisten roolien välillä. Studiossa pyörii kuitenkin pitkälti samoja tekijöitä, kuin Pääskyssäkin vaikuttaa.   Erityinen tapahtuma oli viime vuonna, kun pääsin ensi kertaa yksin esittämään näitä kappaleita SOM-lauluntekijäklubille Tampereen Maanalaiseen, joka on muuten myös itselle muutenkin tärkeä keikkapaikka. Silloin varmistui, että Markus Lapsestakin tulee pysyvä entiteetti. Tekeminen on kuitenkin vielä alussa ja tasapainottelua eri projektien välillä on tehtävä. Siinä on kuitenkin luomista edesauttava vapaus, joka syntyy, kun ei tarvitse änkeä ideoitaan vain yhteen muottiin.  Markus Lapsen musiikki on päivätöissä sinnittelevän ja vielä monella tapaa keskenkasvuisen nuoren aikuisen vuodatuksia maailmassa, jossa on niin käsittämättömän paljon surua, murhetta ja huolta, että vain sarkastinen huumori ja pieni vinoilu suuntaan jos toiseen voi siinä auttaa. Kaikissa biiseissä on viestejä, jotka niiden kohteet toivon mukaan joskus hoksaavat ja ottavat itseensä - samoja sanoja ei näet uskalla kasvotusten sanoa. Juhannuslavan laulu on laulu ystäville, joita itse pidin tärkeänä ja joille uhrasin ajatuksen jos toisenkin, mutta harvoin vastakaikua saaden. Jollain pervolla tavalla kuitenkin haluaisin edelleen "voittaa" nämä ystävät takaisin.  Tulevaisuudessa Markus Lapsi koittaa taas aktivoitua keikoille ja uutta musiikkiakin julkaistaan onneksi jo ennen kesää.  LINKIT:  FacebookSpotify Instagram: @markuslapsi   Musiikkia saatavilla myös suuresta osasta muita suoratoistopalveluita samoilla tiedoilla.  PARASTA KOTIKULMILLA: Lempiasiani Tampereella on ehdottomasti tamperelainen pärisevä ärrä sekä loputtomiin venyvä sääääääää, jotka tekevät tamperelaisesta puheenparresta hauskaa ja tuntuvat näin kieli solmussa puhuvalle helpolta ja soljuvalta ääntää. Tampereen kovimmat keikkapaikat ovat ehdottomasti rohkealla ja määrätietoisella UG-meiningillä pyörivä Maanalainen sekä Vastavirta-klubi (ja erityisesti sen yläkerta) joissa on tullut monesti heitettyä ikimuistoisia keikkoja useammassa eri kokoonpanossa. Samat paikat ovat olleet myös kovin ystävällisiä, kun ovat päästäneet vielä toiseenkin kertaan lavojaan kuluttamaan. TUE!:Seuraa ja kuuntele musaa linkeistä!   Nokkonen – Palapeili (Mänttä, rankempi rock) Nokkonen on rockyhtye, joka aloitti toimintansa vuonna 1995. Bändin kokoonpano on ehtinyt muuttua vuosien saatossa lukuisia kertoja ja omaa äänitettyä materiaalia on kerääntynyt jo usemman julkaisun verran. Musiikkityyli on poukkoillut (suomi)rockin, metallin ja progen välillä, alkuaikojen punkvivahteita unohtamatta. Greenrose Faire – Brother Carry On (Tampere, folkrock)Greenrose Faire soittaa taianomaista kelttihenkistä folk-rokkia vastustamattomalla asenteella ja meiningillä. Tamperelaiskuusikon musiikkia hallitsee Sallan kirkas lauluääni, ja sen ympärille viulut ja mandoliinit kietoutuvat rokkikompin kanssa omanlaiseksi kudelmakseen. Greenrose Faire kuulostaa eloisalta ja modernilta mutta silti herättelee kaipuuta vanhoihin hyviin aikoihin kun musiikki oli aitoa ja elämä kunnollista. Orkesteri viihtyy hyvin lavalla, ja on soittanut monenlaisia keikkoja nurkkapubeista konserttisaleihin ja tunnelmallisista teemahäistä kansainvälisille festivaaleille. Lokikirjasta löytyy mm. Fantasy Forest -festivaali Englannissa, useampi vierailu Elfia-festivaalilla Hollannissa sekä kymmenen vuotta putkeen Suomen suurimmilla keskiaikafestivaaleilla Hämeenlinnassa. Greenrose Faire myös järjestää Tampereen Tallipihalla vuosittain omaa minifestaria nimeltä Medieval Folk Fest.  Jäsenet: Salla Rimmi – laulu Hanna Heinonen – viulu Niilo Sirola – busuki Meiju Enho – koskettimet Mikko Gynther – basso Tomi Hyttinen – rummut  Tarina tähän asti: Lauluntekijä Tomi Hyttisen ja toisen perustajajäsenen Niilo Sirolan tiet kohtasivat hard-rock-bändissä. Kesti muutama vuosi ennen kuin tuli puheeksi että kumpikin fanittaa fantasiakirjallisuutta ja keskiaikarokkia, jolloin heti päätettiin siltä istumalta pistää uusi yhtye kasaan. "Kumpikaan ei ollut aiemmin tehnyt oikein mitään akustista musiikkia, joten koko kenttä oli auki ja oli hauskaa kokeilla kaikenlaista. Ainoana sääntönä oli että sähkökitaroita ei tähän oteta mukaan," Tomi muistelee.  Talven aikana Niilon kotistudiossa lyötiin nauhalle levyllisen verran demoja ennen kuin bändin muiden soittajien etsintä alkoi. Tampereelta löytyikin joukko soittajia jotka olivat aina halunneet soittaa tämänkaltaista musiikkia mutteivät vaan tienneet sitä vielä. Viimeinen peruskivi loksahti paikalleen kun koelauluun saapui laulajatar Salla Rimmi, jonka kirkas soundi ja luontevan tarkka fraseeraus ratkaisivat valinnan noin viidessätoista sekunnissa.   Orkesterin ensimmäinen täyspitkä albumi "Neverending Journey" julkaistiin 2011, ja sitä seurasi "My Home Is Where My Heart Is" 2013 ja "Feed the Flames" 2015. Vuonna 2017 yhtye vietti kymmenvuotisjuhlaansa, ja sen kunniaksi julkaistiin kokoelma "Decade of Songs and Stories" sekä CD:nä että nuottikirjana. Neljäs levy "Riders in the Night" ilmestyi 1.6.2018 hollantilaisen Friendly Folk Records -yhtiön kautta. Kokoonpanoon on joka levyn myötä tullut pieniä vaihdoksia, ja viides levy onkin juuri äänitysvaiheessa uudella ja kaikkien aikojen kovimmalla miehi- ja naisituksella.  Greenrose Faire vie iloista musiikkia ja markkinahenkeä joka linnaan ja pitäjään ympäri maailmaa. Skygazers – Living Sun, Dreaming Moon (Tampere, powermetal) Skygazers on vuonna 2018 Kitaristi Joni Jokisen perustama Power Metal yhtye Tampereelta. Bändi sai alkunsa Jonin sooloprojektista jonka materiaalin hän sävelsi ja sanoitti itsekseen ja alkoi äänittämään levyä Muusikoiden.netistä löytämänsä laulajan Heidi Valkaman kanssa. Äänitysten puolessa välissä kosketinsoittaja Henri Vekuna liittyi mukaan yhtyeeseen ja siitä asti tähän päivään yhtye on jatkanut tällä kokoonpanolla, samalla julkaisten 22.01.2019 ensimmäisen omakustanne albuminsa nimeltä "Call Of Eternity". Tällä hetkellä yhtye etsii Rumpalia joukkoonsa ja aikoo tähdätä heti sopivan tyypin löydyttyä keikkalavoille. Iina Kuu – Morsiamen laulu (Tampere, popiskelmä) Olen tamperelainen laulaja-lauluntekijä Iina Kuu Syksyllä 2016 tein ison päätöksen lähteä tavoittelemaan ”kuuta taivaalta”. Päätin toteuttaa haaveeni ryhtyä lauluntekijäksi. Tästä alkoikin ihmeellinen seikkailu. Aluksi kaiken piti olla vain leikkiä ja nuoruuden haaveen hapuilua. En ihan itsekään uskonut, että siitä syntyy mitään sen kummempaa. Kunpahan vain vähän harrastelen. Pikkuhiljaa vauhti kiihtyi, tuli bändikokeilua, biisintekokilpailuja, duoa, sekä erilaisia tapahtumia. Askel askeleelta lähdettiin kohti korkeampia sfäärejä. Alun suurimpina tapahtumina voisin sanoa kesän 2018 Inspiraationa Juice-kilpailun, jossa Duo Arktinen Kuu kokoonpanolla lähetetty yksi kuudesta kilpailukappaleestani ylsi ihan mukavasti 20 parhaan joukkoon. Tällä kokoonpanolla tuli myös tehtyä muutamia keikkoja, joista hienoin oli olla Ruutana Rockin avauskokoonpanona 2019 Kesän kynnyksellä toteutinkin sitten ultimate unelmani, sain tilaisuuden aloittaa debyyttisingleni Morsiamen laulu teon. Sävel ja sanat ovat käsialaani. Studiotuotannosta ja sovituksesta vastaa Jukka Ruostila. Ajattelin silloin että se on minun ”kuuni taivaalta”, mutta eivätpä asiat siihen jääneet.. Kappale menestyi FinnRadioFM kesän Top10 listalla pysyen siellä juhannuksesta viikolle 31, eli listan loppuun. Jatkona pysyin saman kanavan syksyn TOP20 listalla täydet 8 viikkoa. Radio Suomi -Södertäljen TOP20 syyskuu, kappale saavutti ensimmäisen sijan. Syyskuussa vierailin myös Lähi Radio Helsingin vieraana ohjelmassa ”Vaunu ilman kuljettajaa”, jossa soitin livenä omia säveltämiä kappaleitani. Marraskuussa 2019 näki toinen singleni, Tarinoita päivän valon. Kappale pääsi kuten edeltäjänsä FinnRadio.FM äänestyksiin ja on pysynyt TOP20 listoilla tähän päivään saakka, eli tammikuussa 19 ollaan vielä TOP-lista äänestyksissä mukana.. Lisäksi kappaleen tiimoilta olen ollut haastattelussa Radio Suomi Södertäljen sekä SSS-Radion lähetyksissä. Nämä löytyvät podcasteina kanavien sivuilta. Tarinoita nappasi myös Joulukuun Top1 paikan Radio Suomi Södertäljen äänestyksissä. Olin myös FinnRadio.FM vuoden 2019 Suomi Pop artisti äänestyksessä sijalla 7. Kappaleeni ovat päässeet soimaan myös radiokanavilla, kuten Radio Pooki, Radio Sun, Pispalan Aallot, SSS-Radio sekä nettiradiossa, kuten Radio Hulabaloo, Jarskin Kuumat Aallot, FinnRadio.FM, Radio Suomi Södertälje, Radio Soi... Radioiden lisäksi minut on huomioitu mm. Pelastabändi.com ja Suomiviihde.fi sekä Häät.fi sivustoilla  TULEVAISUUDEN NÄKYMÄT,  *Helmikuussa julkaistaan kolmas singleni ”Kaipuuni helinä” Suunnitteilla on julkaista lähitulevaisuudessa myös 2 muuta singleä. *Facebookissa perustimme muutaman musiikintekijä-ystäväni kanssa ryhmän Svengi-Jengi, joka on juuri suunnattu sellaisille ihmisille, jotka tosissaan ovat julkaisemassa tai jo julkaisseet radiosoittoon tähtäävää musiikkia. Ryhmän sisällä pohdimme tähän aiheeseen liittyviä kysymyksiä ja jaamme tietoa. Näin kaikkien ei tarvitse keksiä polkupyörää uudestaan. Jos ryhmä kiinnostaa, yhteys allekirjoittaneeseen. Toistaiseksi ryhmä ei löydy hakemalla. *Jussi Kaakkolammin hyppysissä on lähitulevaisuudessa koota ammattilaisista koostuvaa bändiä, jolla päästäisiin keikoille tekemilläni kappaleilla.  Helmikuun tienoilla ilmestyy Hervannan Sanomissa juttua minusta biisintekijäjä ja mahdollisesti raotamme salaisuuden verhoa tulevan singlen suhteen. Voisi sanoa, että pienestä ajatuksesta syntyi aikamoinen pöhinä ja vauhti kiihtyy. Ne muutama ensimmäinen vuosi oli ajatuksen kypsyttelyä. Toivomalla kappaleita, ne tulevat helpommin huomioiduksi. Artisti kiittää!    08. Kormus – MC Perkele (Tampere, suomirock) Tamperelainen Kormus perustettiin vuonna 2013. Yhtye aloitti duona, johon kuuluivat Anton Äikäs ja Kari Luomaharju. Muutaman keikan jälkeen duosta päätettiin tehdä trio. Basistia pohtiessa Anton tokaisi Karille legendaariset sanat: "Mä tunnen tasan yhden kovan basistin ja sulla ei oo muuta vaihtoehtoo kuin tulla toimeen sen kanssa."  Kokoonpano on ollut siitä asti sama: Anton Äikäs - kitara/laulu, Aaro Alatalo - basso/taustalaulu ja Kari Luomaharju - rummut/taustalaulu. Olemme tehneet omakustannebändinä 12 singleä, kolme EP:tä ja kolme pitkäsoittoa, joista viimeisin "MÖLINÄÄ" julkaistiin 4.10.2019. Levyn julkaisukeikka soitettiin täydessä Tampereen Bar Ihkussa. Levyn kruunasi Juho Juntusen taiteilemat kannet ja se julkaistiin neljässä eri formaatissa: CD, vinyyli, kasetti ja suoratoistopalvelut. Yhtyeellemme on aina ollut tärkeää tehdä suurin osa julkaisuista myös fyysisenä versiona ja panostaa kansitaiteeseen.  Yhtyeen uusin julkaisu on tällä hetkellä jouluaattona 2019 suoratoistopalveluissa julkaistu live-ep "JAUZAA!". Ep on äänitetty levynjulkaisukeikalla Tampereen Bar Ihkussa 5.10.2019. Kappaleemme ovat saaneet soittoa paikallisradioiden taajuuksilla ja singlemme "Yhden illan prinsessa" vietti täydet 50 päivää Radio Suomipopin Pop top 10 -listalla fanien äänestyksen voimalla.  Kantava ajatus Kormuksen toiminnassa on ollut alusta asti oman musiikin tekeminen ja esittäminen, terve ylpeys omasta tekemisestä sekä hyvien keikkojen soittaminen ympäri maata. Olemme tehneet kuudessa vuodessa noin 600 keikkaa kouluista takapihajuhliin ja pienistä pubeista suurten festareiden lavoille. Yhtye on vuosien aikana esiintynyt niin omakotitalon makuuhuoneessa, rippijuhlissa takapihan teltassa, festareista mm. Hämyvestareilla, Aitoon kirkastusjuhlilla, Pöheikön pölläyksessä ja pienempien kylien kesätapahtumissa kuin myös häissä ja senioritalon taloyhtiön kevätjamboreessa. Keikka kuin keikka, Kormus järjestää show'n.2016-2017 järjestimme Tampereella Kormus-klupia, jossa vieraana kävivät mm. Tommi Läntinen, Heikki Salo, Matthau Mikojan, Jussi Selo, Vesa Holmala, Hauli Bros ja Costello Hautamäki. Illat alkoivat Kormuksen omalla setillä, jonka jälkeen illan vieras esitti kanssamme omaa tuotantoaan kertoen tarinoita biisien takaa. Vuoden 2016 lopussa Ruoveden kunta palkitsi yhtyeen kunnan kulttuurielämän elävöittämisellä.  2018 lanseerasimme yhdessä Kaleva Brewing companyn kanssa Kormus Sleep walker -oluen, jota myytiin kevään ajan. Olut oli osa "Unissakävelijä"-singlemme mainoskampanjaa. Kyseisen singlen myötä aloimme levittää sanomaamme myös nuoremmille kuulijoille. Kappale kehottaa olemaan rohkeasti oma itsensä ja uskomaan omaan tekemiseensä ja unelmiin. Tämän pohjalta toteutuivat vuonna 2019 aloitetut koulukeikat, joilla esiinnymme 6-12 -vuotiaille lapsille esittäen kappaleitamme, jotka sopivat kaikenikäisille sekä kertoen bänditoiminnasta, oman musiikin tekemisestä ja soittoharrastuksesta. Vuoden 2018 alussa julkaistiin myös Kormuksen tilaustyönä Ruoveden kunnalle tekemä tunnuskappale "Tää on Ruovesi!". Kappale sai valtakunnallista näkyvyyttä, kun kunnan TV-mainos pyöri Nelosen kanavilla huhtikuussa 2019. Kormus on myös tehnyt varuskuntakeikkoja, joiden ansiosta olimme vuonna 2018 Suomen Sotilaskotiliiton Vuoden yhtye. Uusin albumimme "MÖLINÄÄ" sisältää aiempaa rankempaa tuotantoa niin tekstien kuin soitonkin osalta. Sanoituksissa käsitellään vakavia aiheita rakkaudesta terveeseen itsetuntoon ja ilmastonmuutokseen. He, jotka tuntevat yhtyeen aikaisempaa tuotantoa, löytävät levyltä myös yhtyeelle ominaista huumoria. Musiikkivideoillaan Kormus on halunnut herättää keskustelua mm. päihteiden käytöstä, Tinder-kulttuurista ja itsetunto-ongelmista. Videoissa on käytetty karrikoituja hahmoja ja asiat on esitetty suoraan, jotta viesti menee perille. Jokaisessa videossa näkyy myös yhtyeelle ominainen huumori. Ja Maailmankaikkeuden Suvijenkka -videolla vierailee jopa kappaleen nimen keksinyt Popeda-basisti Jyrki K. Melartin.  Nyt kun vuosi 2020 on startannut, Kormus katsoo eteenpäin. Kevääksi julkaistaan uutta musiikkia ja suurin tähtäin on huhtikuussa. Perjantaina 3.4.2020 Kormus esiintyy Tampereen G Livelabissa laajennetulla kokoonpanolla juhlistaen kitaristi-laulaja Antonin kymmenvuotista uraa ammattimuusikkona. Mies on 15-vuotiaasta asti elättänyt itsensä tehden omaa musiikkia ja keikkaillen ympäri Suomea. Lisäksi kevättalvi kuluu promoten lokakuussa ilmestynyttä "MÖLINÄÄ"-albumia ja keikkaillen koko vuosi ahkerasti. Tim Creole & Hot Rods – Jitter Bop Baby (Pälkäne, rockabilly) Pälkäneläinen Tim Creole & Hot Rods perustettiin osittain vahingossa vuonna 2017. Me vanhat pitkän ja monipuolisen musiikkihistorian omaavat soittokaverit kokoonnuimme yhteen, kun tarvittiin pop-up ohjelmaa. Huomasimme, että tämähän on kivaa. Huomionarvoista on, että kukaan tässä bändissä ei soita ”ykkössoitintaan”. Bändimme on sen verran tuore, että tällä kokoonpanolla ei ole vielä kertynyt ikimuistoisia tekoja. Keikkailemme lähinnä Pirkanmaan alueella yksityistilaisuuksissa, kesätapahtumissa, musiikkipubeissa ja ravintoloissa. Soitamme 50-luvun Rock´n Rollia monipuolisesti Rockabillystä balladeihin. Luxury Toys – Never Go Out (Tampere-Helsinki, rock) Nyt kannattaa olla hereillä, sillä kohta on taas oikean rock-yhtyeen aika ja tässä on teille seuraava The Rolling Stones. Luxury Toys on kaikkea sitä, mitä rakastamme musiikissa. Se ei ole täydellinen, mutta se on aito ja kiinnostava yhtye. LToys ei ole parhaiden ystävien bändi eikä virheettömillä sessiomuusikoilla silattu, muovisen laskelmoitu projekti. Tämä yhtye on elämäntapamme ja henkireikämme. Se on lahjamme Suomen tylsälle rock-musiikin kentälle ja samalla pakomme todellisuudesta. Juuri 12 vuotta täyttänyt Luxury Toys on levyillään monipuolinen, kunnianhimoinen ja omaperäinen. Jos osuu omaan maantieteelliseen sijaintiin ja aikatauluun, niin sitten ehdottomasti mestoille meitä moikkaamaan.    12. Seppo V – Balladi (Akaa, suomirock) Seppo V on nimestään huolimatta akaalainen bändi, joka tarjoilee rehellistä ja reipasta suomenkielistä kitararokkia. Setillinen omia biisejä on matkassa mukana. Biisit on tarinoita elävästä elämästä ja sen vaiheista. Musiikki on vauhdikasta ja melodista meininkiä!  Bändin soittajat koostuvat sekä ammattilaisista musiikin saralla että pidemmälle ennättäneitä harrastajista. Keikkoja on tehty vain yksi: Viiskytä -levyn julkaistus keikka 5.10.2019 ja paikkana Pub Leskirouva Akaan Toijalassa. Nimensä mukaisesti levy julkaistiin juhlistamaan bändin nokkamiehen puolen vuosisadan rajapyykkiä. Levynjulkaisukeikka oli oikein menestyksekäs ja mieleenpainuva ja se tehtiin täydelle ravintolayleisölle! Viiskytä levy oli jatkumoa kymmenen vuotta aikaisemmin julkaistulle EP levylle: Seppo & the Salminen Band: Ensimmäiset 40 vuotta. Levy julkaistiin sadan kappaleen CD painoksena ja sen tekemiseen osallistui samoja soittajia, kuin nyt uudemmalle Viiskytä albumillekin. Matkan varrella viimeisen kymmenen vuoden aikana on tehty musaa myös Maanantaikappale bändin kanssa ja levynjulkaisukeikalla lokakuussa 2019 kuultiin kappaleita myös niiltä ajoita. Näistä vanhemista kappaleista on julkaistu muutamia digitaalisella EP:llä "Nelkytä Plus". 2020 on tarkoitus tehdä pari keikkaa, jos ja kun sopivia tilaisuuksia tulee eteen. Myös uusia biisejä kirjoitetaan parhaillaan ja niitä on tehty aikaisemmasta poiketen pienryhmässä biisileirimeiningillä. Saattaa olla hyvinkin, että uusi julkaisu tehdään vuoden sisällä. Mitään isoja odotuksia tai tavoitteita ei tulevaisuudelle ole rakennettu, mutta katsotaan rennosti mitä tulee vastaan. Homma jatkuu muodossa tai toisessa. Facebookin fanisivusta vois myös käydä tykkäämässä.   13. J Mikael – Puolesta (Tampere, laulaja-lauluntekijä) Olen Janne M. Salo. Janne Saloja on niin monta että on pitänyt ottaa käyttöön toisen nimeni (Mikael) alkukirjain. Tästä muodostui äskettäin artiistinimi J Mikael. Viisitoistavuotiaana synnyinseudullani Jämsässä aloin soittamaan rumpuja, vaikka rytmiikan lisäksi musiikissa kiehtovaa oli myös tunnelmat ja tekstit. Koitin vähän myös kirjoittaa ja kohta sivarissa ollessani lauluja tulikin nipullinen. Siitä on jo aikaa -pari vuosikymmentä elämä oli taipumuksensa mukaisesti täyttynyt niin ettei luovuudelle vaan ollut riittävästi tilaa ja aikaa. Pikkuhiljaa aloin tietoisesti karsia asioita, jotta jäisi aikaa kirjoittamiselle. Ajatuksissa oli aluksi pelkkää kirjoittamista enkä vielä silloin tiennyt että se tulisi nivoituisi näin kiinteästi soittamiseen. Melodioita rupesi myös tulemaan ja 2017 juhannusaattona tuli eräällä istumalla ensimmäinen laulu. Siitä alkoi tämä uusi lauluntekokausi, joka kiihtyi kiihtymistään. 2018 oli tuottoisa ja siitä materiaalista valitsin levylle 16 kappaletta, jotka sitten julkaisin levynä 2019 lopulla. 2019 lauluja pulppusi samaan malliin ja alkoi olla aina silloin tällöin myös keikkoja itse sovitusti tai pyynnöstä. Näin aloin siten saada myös hieman esiintymiskokemusta. Uuteen maailmaan astuminen oli tapahtunut, siirtyminen rumpalin roolista eturiviin on ollut aika jännä ja mielenkiintoinen matka. Se on ollut eniten sisäinen matka. Laulujen synnyttäminen on hyvin innostavaa ja inspiroivaa touhua, ja samalla vaatii joidenkin sisäisten esteiden ylittämistä ja siten omaa prosessointia -luovuuskanavaa kun ei voi käskeä, mutta sitä voi hoitaa juuri suostumalla noihin prosesseihin. Esiintymisiin liittyy myös omat samankaltaset asiansa, eikä nekään ole itsestään selvää varsinkaan kun taidot kehittyvät omaa rauhallista tahtiaan. Laulujen teksteissä päälinja menee melko syvissä itsen ja elämän pohdinnoissa, mutta mukana on myös paljon muita sävyjä ja kepeämpää materiaalia. Keikkapaikat ovat olleet monenlaisia joogasalista rock klubeihin. Kaukaisin niistä oli istanbulissa Aasian puolella eräällä klubilla. Kotiseudullani Tampereella mainttavia mm. Tahmelan Huvilan musailta, romu&rahdomin kellari,  Om yoga -koulun hyväntekeväisyysilta sekä Vastavirran yläkerta. Eräs kepeimmistä ja hauskimmista keikoista oli Pispalan saunayhdistyksen 30v juhla, jonne sain kutsun ja jossa siten viihdytin vartavasten tekemälläni sauna aiheisella laululla. Palautetta olen saanut ihan mukavasti. Yksi mieleen painunut tapaus oli kerran kun olin asematunnelissa katusoittamassa ja eräs kiireinen junaan menijä halusi kovasti ostaa levyn, joita siinä oli näkösällä, muttei hänellä ollut rahaa :D -laittoi kyllä myöhemmin tilille ja kertoi vielä kappaleen joka oli erityisesti vaikuttanut. Homma on suht alullaan mutta tuntuu menevän eteenpäin ja uusia kiinnostavia keikkojakin on tulossa. Retired United States Army Staff Sergeant Travis Mills of the 82nd Airborne is a recalibrated warrior, motivational speaker, actor, author and an advocate for veterans and amputees. His real breakthrough came in the film The Buddy Holly Story (1978), with Busey taking the lead role as Buddy Holly, in addition to playing guitar and singing all the vocals. His stellar performance scored him a Best Actor nomination and the attention of Hollywood taking overcasting agents. Next up, he joined fellow young actors William Katt and Jan-Michael Vincent as surfing buddies growing up together in the cult surf film Big Wednesday (1978), directed by John Milius. He also played the brutal assassin Mr. Joshua trying to kill Los Angeles cops Mel Gibson and Danny Glover in the runaway mega-hit Lethal Weapon (1987). Further strong roles followed, including alongside Danny Glover once again in Predator 2 (1990). He was back on the beaches, this time tracking bank robbers with FBI agent Keanu Reeves, in Point Break (1991) and nearly stole the show as a psychotic Navy officer in league with terrorists led by Tommy Lee Jones taking over the USS Missouri in the highly popular Under Siege (1992).

In this episode of the Better Than Success Podcast, your host Nikki Purvy reveals step-by-step her time management technique that allows her to complete more in a day than others complete in a week.  We all know that time management is key to success and business development. This 9-step process is easy to follow and start with laying a solid foundation that starts with mindset.  There is also a free download that will help listeners to adopt this technique.   Last week on episode 4 of the “Better than Success” Podcast we talked about the 3 Phases of work/life balance for new entrepreneurs. We talked about the ‘Tantrum Phase’, ‘The Superman Phase’ and the ‘Work Smarter not Harder Phase’. In the ‘Work Smarter not Harder Phase’, we learn that time is the most valuable resource. This is why it is important for us to learn to maximix our time if we must work smarter Here I will lay out my 9 step process to maximize my time and get 75% more done in a day. Steps 1-3 are foundational and very important. Step 1. Develop A Time Control Mindset. This is the most important step in this whole process. You have to develop a Time Control Mindset. I’m going to note a couple of facts that will help you develop a Time Control Mindset “You have the same amount of hours in a day as Beyonce” "Work expands so as to fill the time available for its completion" – Parkinson’s Law “You are AlWays the boss of your time” –Nikki Purvy Step 2. Learn to Focus. Most people cannot focus. This is not based on empirical evidence but I would guess that 80% of people don’t now how to focus on a single task for an hours up to 40 hours let alone one that takes 1 hour. I learned the importance of concentration from the book the THE POWER OF CONCENTRATION. Theron Q. Dumont or William Walker Atkinson. The author is noted as both men. Here are some tasks that will help you focus working out without stoping to talk to your friends Reading Playing an instrument or anything that requires you to use your hands   Here are some focus killers TV Social Media Too much work-time banter  Step 3. Time yourself Write out your tasks to be completed over the next day/hour/week in haphazard increments before you attack them. Time your self on each individual task. How long does it take to complete each task uninterrupted? This is very important. This concept came from the book ‘Scrum: The Art of Doing Twice the Work in Half the Time’ by Jeff Sutherland. I didn’t read all of it but I did uncover the part where the author talks about learning how long t takes to do certain tasks before you lock down a project due date The concept here is to get an accurate time frame of how long it takes to complete different tasks uninterrupted when you’re focused. Record these times, take a mental note or whatever. This may take a week or a month for you to get a proper account for how long it takes to complete tasks. Steps 4-9 I have a worksheet for you to download at betterthanSuccess.com/5 Step 4. Record Your Tasks as They Come to You Record all your tasks as they come to your head. Write down all your tasks to be completed as you go along in life. Take notes in your phone, write on scraps of paper, or take notes on your computer. You will get ideas from everywhere. Write them down anywhere but be sure that you can find them come Monday morning. And at the top of every other working day BEFORE YOU DO ANYTHING. BEFORE YOU HAVE YOUR COFFEE. Do steps 5 and 6. Step 5. Create Your Master Task List Make a list of all your tasks that you recorded in your various places. Take them all and put them in one place, for the week, ON the COMPUTER. This is called the master task list Step 6. Schedule Out Your Day Schedule out your day. Just today. Schedule out 15 min, 30 min, 1 –2 hour blocks of time to complete tasks throughout your day and start inserting them in these blocks according to priority and how long it takes you to do a task uninterrupted, because remember you timed yourself. This is called the daily schedule Add in your coffee break and your lunch break. And your Facebook break if you need one. Schedule these out. Schedule out time to BS with your coworkers. For real, factor that in. Step 7. Define the End of the Day Give yourself a definitive time to end work for the day, no matter what. This is what gives you the work/life balance. Note: As you go through your day sticking as close to your schedule as possible make note of the following: Remember you are only doing today so not everything from the week’s list will get in here. Its not supposed to. What this does is it allows you to race against the clock for completing individual tasks and gives you a deadline for each. So its like you are always working in the last minute without the pressure. It also assures you that you are actually working as efficiently as you can. As you go through the day completing tasks use the strike out to cross them out both on the schedule and the large task list As new things come up through out the day that does not need your immediate attention, add them to the master task list. Step 8. Account for the things you completed At the end of the day account for the things you completed as well as the things you did not. Sometimes things come up or new more urgent tasks get thrown in the day so tasks take a little longer. So you may not complete everything but that’s ok. You did as much as you possibly could. And if that is true then it’s a lot. You are human, so that means that you are powerful by nature. As long as you are at your best then that means you did a lot! Step 9. Start your new day Before you do anything as soon as you sit at your desk. Take the things from the master task list that did not get crossed off and the things that did not get completed and remember the new tasks that came up yesterday that didn’t require your immediate attention they should be here too. Copy and paste them all down to anew master task list for that day and repeat steps 6-8. This is why you do this on a computer.
