Welcome back to Season 8 Herders! We have been gone for some time and we are coming back strong with Rats!Please keep sending us emails of the animals you want to hear, we love getting requests!  The term generally and indiscriminately applied to numerous members of several rodent families having bodies longer than about 12 cm, or 5 inches. (Smaller thin-tailed rodents are just as often indiscriminately referred to as mice.) In scientific usage, rat applies to any of 56 thin-tailed, medium-sized rodent species in the genus Rattus native to continental Asia and the adjacent islands of Southeast Asia eastward to the Australia-New Guinea region. A few species have spread far beyond their native range in close association with people. The brown rat, Rattus norvegicus (also called the Norway rat), and the house rat, R. rattus (also called the black rat, ship rat, or roof rat), live virtually everywhere that human populations have settled; the house rat is predominant in warmer climates, and the brown rat dominates in temperate regions, especially urban areas. Most likely originating in Asia, the brown rat reached Europe in the mid-1500s and North America around 1750. The house rat most likely originated in India.

Abstract: The coadaptation or genetic coupling of senders and receivers of sex signals in some animals has been described, but no empirical evidence shows whether sex pheromones and their receptors undergo coadaptation in mammals. In this study of the brown rat (Rattus norvegicus), we found markedly higher levels of two predominant male pheromones (2-heptanone and MUP13) in the North China subspecies [R. n. humiliatus (RNH)] than in the Northeast China subspecies [R. n. caraco (RNC)] by gas or liquid chromatography and mass spectrometry. Coincidently, two vomeronasal receptor genes (Vom1r68 and Vom2r53) were found to be expressed at higher levels in RNH females than in RNC females and were thus considered candidate receptors for 2-heptanone and MUP13, respectively. An immunofluorescence analysis showed that these two VR receptors colocalized with mTmG on the membrane of HEK293-T cells. We also verified the responsiveness of Vom1r68 to 2-heptanone and Vom2r53 to MUP13 in HEK293-T cells by calcium imaging. In conclusion, we screened and identified the receptors of two pheromones based on the coadaptation of pheromones and their receptors, which further verified their coevolution. The Chinese zodiac stated that rats are creative, intelligent, honest, ambitious and generous hundreds of years before scientific studies proved all of these traits to actually be true. Except for, perhaps, honesty. Rats are among the most used research subjects and were the third animal, after humans and mice, to have their entire genome sequenced. Their genome proved that rats have accelerated evolutionary adaptation, meaning they evolve faster than most mammals.  The fact that two brown rats can produce 15,000 rats in only 1 year provides plenty of opportunities for rapid evolution.Past research has also proven that rats are intelligent and quick learners, but recent studies have also show that rats empathize with other rats suggest that morality and empathy were hardwired into animal brains long before humans evolved. Mais leurs impacts ne sont pas qu'écologiques.   Beaucoup ne s'adaptent pas à leur nouveau milieu, d'autres le font sans faire de vague. D'autres encore entraînent des extinctions d'espèces et/ou d'importants dégâts.   Le Moustique tigre, venu d'Asie du sud-est et présent désormais dans une centaine de pays sur les cinq continents, est sans doute le cas le plus connu. Autres exemples: la Fourmi de feu aux États-Unis, la Moule zébrée dans les grands lacs canadiens, le Serpent arboricole brun sur l' île de Guam, le Lapin en Australie, la Jussie (une plante rampante) en Afrique, l'Ambroisie en Europe de l'ouest…   Homo sapiens est aussi une espèce envahissante stricto sensu. La pire en termes de dégâts causés, et responsable de 99% de la survenues des autres EEE dont... les chats aussi.   Des chercheurs français ont évalué l'impact que les espèces envahissantes, autant de touristes involontaires,  introduites volontairement ou non par l'Homme dans un milieu qui n'étaient pas le leur, ont engendré 1.288 milliards de dollars de pertes économiques entre 1970 et 2017. Une somme équivalente au PIB de l'Australie.   Leur nombre est estimé à 14.000 en Europe, et à 5000 en France.   Voici la liste noire des 100 pires EEE (espèces exotiques envahissantes) selon l'UICN.   Vous avez la flemme de cliquer sur le lien? Voici d'autres espèces:   La perche du Nil : C'est devenu le symbole des espèces invasives depuis le film Le Cauchemar de Darwin. Introduite en 1954 dans le lac Victoria, elle multiplié les prises de pêche par quatre. Mais elle a aussi entraîné la disparition de 200 espèces locales.   Le champignon Phytophthora infestans a provoqué la Grande Famine en 1845 en Irlande, en détruisant les pommes de terre.   Le phylloxéra Viteus vitifoliae a failli exterminer les vignes européennes à la fin du 19e siècle.   La méduse Mnemiopsis leidyi en mer Noire ayant considérablement affaibli les ressources halieutiques.   L'étoile de mer dévoreuse de corail (Acanthaster planci), alias "couronne d'épine" est sujette à des « explosions de populations » qui ruinent les écosystèmes coralliens, parmi les plus riches et les plus fragiles au monde.   Le Frelon asiatique Vespa velutina en France notamment, prédateur d'abeilles et d'autres insectes pollinisateurs.   L'introduction du Rat noir Rattus rattus et du Rat d'égoût (Surmulot) Rattus norvegicus en Europe au Moyen âge, responsable de la peste qui a divisé par deux la population européenne.   L'abeille tueuse : Au Brésil, le gouvernement autorise en 1956 l'importation d'une abeille africaine pour l'étudier. Relâchée involontairement, un essaim s'hybride avec l'abeille locale. La nouvelle espèce, appelée "abeille tueuse" est particulièrement agressive. Elle remonte vers le Mexique et on la trouve aujourd'hui aux Etats-Unis.   Le ragondin : Exploité au 19ème siècle pour sa fourrure, il a été rapporté d'Amérique du Sud. Les éleveurs en faillite l'ont relâché dans la nature : en 40 ans, elle a colonisé toute la France, causant des dégâts sur les berges des cours d'eau.   La crépidule des moules : Ce coquillage a été introduit accidentellement par les bateaux américains lors du débarquement. Elle entre en compétition avec les huîtres et les moules et menace l'ostréiculture. Voir l'épisode correspondant de Petit Poisson deviendra  Podcast. Idem pour la Rascasse volante, le Crabe bleu etr le Poisson lapin, aussi abordés dans PPDP.   L'écrevisse de Louisiane : Ramenée en France dans les années 70 pour faire face à la baisse de production de l'écrevisse locale, cette espèce prédatrice l'a non seulement fait disparaître totalement, mais aussi d'autres poissons et amphibiens.   Les tortues de Floride : Particulièrement appréciées des enfants, elles pullulent de façon incontrôlée sitôt qu'on les relâche dans la nature. Sa vente est interdite en France depuis 1992.   Le silure : Cet énorme poisson-chat, dont les plus gros spécimens mesurent plus de 3 m de long, est venu du Danube en empruntant des canaux. Il gagne progressivement tous les cours d'eau français, d'autant plus que des amateurs de pêche sportive répandent eux-même des alevins dans les cours d'eau.   La Fallopia Japonica : Cette algue brune laminaire originaire du Japon et importée en France par des aquariophiles, a envahi les cours d'eau et menace les autres espèces d'algues, car elle secrète des substances toxiques pour ses voisines.   Le Miconi : En 1965, cette plante d'ornement est offerte au jardin botanique d'Hawaï. En 40 ans, le Miconia s'est étendu sur toute l'île. Surnommée "ebola verte", il fait de l'ombre aux autres espèces qui meurent. Ses racines ne retiennent plus le sol et elle provoque donc des effondrements de terrain.   Wasmannia auropunctata, la petite fourmi folle a envahi la Nouvelle-Calédonie et Tahiti.   La jacinthe d'eau détruit la vie aquatique, en la privant de lumière, dans les rivières ou les lacs.   Voici une liste encore plus détaillée faune et flore par région du monde. _______ Kris de Bardia est guide animalier dans le Parc de Bardia au Népal. Abstract: To better understand the genetic diversity, host association and evolution of coronaviruses (CoVs) in China we analyzed a total of 696 rodents encompassing 16 different species sampled from Zhejiang and Yunnan provinces. Based on the reverse transcriptase PCR-based CoV screening CoVs of fecal samples and subsequent sequence analysis of the RdRp gene, we identified CoVs in diverse rodent species, comprising Apodemus agrarius, Apodemus latronum, Bandicota indica, Eothenomys miletus, E. eleusis, Rattus andamanesis, Rattus norvegicus, and R. tanezumi. Apodemus chevrieri was a particularly rich host, harboring 25 rodent CoVs. Genetic and phylogenetic analysis revealed the presence of three groups of CoVs carried by a range of rodents that were closely related to the Lucheng Rn rat coronavirus (LRNV), China Rattus coronavirus HKU24 (ChRCoV_HKU24) and Longquan Rl rat coronavirus (LRLV) identified previously. One newly identified A. chevrieri-associated virus closely related to LRNV lacked an NS2 gene. This virus had a similar genetic organization to AcCoV-JC34, recently discovered in the same rodent species in Yunnan, suggesting that it represents a new viral subtype. Notably, additional variants of LRNV were identified that contained putative nonstructural NS2b genes located downstream of the NS2 gene that were likely derived from the host genome. Recombination events were also identified in the ORF1a gene of Lijiang-71. In sum, these data reveal the substantial genetic diversity and genomic complexity of rodent-borne CoVs, and greatly extend our knowledge of these major wildlife virus reservoirs. Hemos hecho un recorrido por la discografía de la banda desde su etapa prepunk que puede abarcar sus tres primeros discos hasta su siguiente envoltorio un tanto más dulcificado y con menos aristas. Pero tanto en un caso como en el otro los pianos o cualquier teclado llevaban la marca de Greenfield. Sonaron tres canciones de sus tres primeros discos que en sí hacen una tríada ("Rattus norvegicus", "No more heroes" y "Black and white") y luego hemos desembocado en "La folie", Feline" y el remate con "10" porque fue el último disco en donde aún figuraba la alineación titular potente con Hugh Cornwell, Jean Jacques Burnel, Jet Black y el fallecido. Joten vetäkää henkeä, pitäkää nenästänne kiinni ja sukeltakaa kanssamme uusiin syviin ja helmeileviin vesiin! Musan lisäksi ohjelmassa otteita haastattelusta NCB:n Ulla Herpmanin kanssa. Hänen kanssaan keskusteltiin fyysisten levyjen julkaisun yhteydessä huomioitavasta luparallista, joka ei loppujen lopuksi olekaan niin ylivoimainen mörkö jolta se aluksi ehkä vaikuttaa. Koko haastattelu on kuunneltavissa sivuiltamme sekä Applen, Spotifyn ja Youtuben podcast-formaateissa. Kyseessä on podcastimme Episodi III. 01. Evil Bastards from Hell – Satan's Minions (Valkeakoski, glam rock) Evil Bastards From Hell on saatanallisen iskevää 80's -tyylistä glam metallia modernilla otteella.  Bändi alotti minun (Velkku) ja veljeni (Veijo) makuuhuonerokkiprojektina 2009 Valkeakoskella. Tyylejä käytiin läpi Motörhead/Ramones-plagiaatiosta funkiin, mutta löydettyämme glam metal -hommelit n.2014 ollaan edelleen sillä tiellä.  2016 julkasimme kokopitkän levyn vielä ihan kaksistaan, mutta samana vuonna saatiin basisti Kim ja Nas rumpuihin, molemmat minun vanhoja rinnakkaisluokkalaisia yläasteelta. Väännettiin koko bändin voimin viiden biisin EP joka julkaistiin 2018. Lisää kamaa on sävellyksen ja sovituksen alla! Ollaan keikkailtu vuodesta 2016 ja ainakin parikymmentä esiintymistä on takana. Mieleenjäävimpinä keikkoina henk.koht. varmaankin bändikisa Lohjalla, missä oli yleisönä vain muut bändit, ensimmäinen ulkoilmakeikka Lempäälän Myllyrannassa sekä eka kerta Jack The Roosterissa Tampereella, paikka jossa on itse käynyt katsomassa lempibändejäni.  LINKIT:  Linkit musaamme ja some-sivuille löytyy täältä!  PARASTA KOTIKULMILLA: – Parasta Valkeakoskella on bändikämpän halpa vuokra...  ei vaan, kyllähän Koskissa on mukava asua kun löytyy palveluita keilahallista elokuvateatteriin ja juottoloihin ilman, että tarvitsisi lähteä Tampereelle asti aina viihtymään. Vuoden kohokohta Koskissa on eittämättä työväen musiikkitapahtuma, jolloin koko kylä herää eloon muutamaksi päiväksi. – Paras kuppila on varmaankin Panama, jossa ollaan varmaan neljä kertaa esiinnyttykin. Kaskas – Kaupunki ja sen valot (Viiala, poprock) Kaskas Viialasta on ollut kasassa jo 12 vuotta, mutta vasta viime vuosina rohkeus ja innostus tehdä omaa musaa on syrjäyttännyt muun soittelun. Meitä on kolme kohta 30-vuotiasta naista, kitara, basso, rummut ja "erikoisuutena" rumpali on lead-laulaja. Soitetaan punkahtavaa suomirokkia, manserokin boxiinkin meitä on soviteltu.  Uutta musaa syntyy jatkuvasti, ja niistä pääsee nauttimaan meidän keikoilla. Markus Lapsi – Juhannuslavan laulu (Tampere, laulaja-lauluntekijä) Markus Lapsi on syntynyt sooloprojektiksi erottautuakseen aiemmasta sooloprojektistani Pääskystä, joka on jo aikapäiviä sitten eskaloitunut varsinaiseksi orkesteriksi. Pöytälaatikkoni oli täynnä muuhun kelpaamattomia aihioita, joista sitten alkoikin muotoutua itsellekin kelpaavaa materiaalia, kun niitä ei yrittänyt laittaa aiempaan muottiin. Markus Lapsi on entistä avoimemmin henkilökohtaista musiikkia, kun aiemmassa musiikissani on vaihdeltu kertomusten ja erilaisten roolien välillä. Studiossa pyörii kuitenkin pitkälti samoja tekijöitä, kuin Pääskyssäkin vaikuttaa.   Erityinen tapahtuma oli viime vuonna, kun pääsin ensi kertaa yksin esittämään näitä kappaleita SOM-lauluntekijäklubille Tampereen Maanalaiseen, joka on muuten myös itselle muutenkin tärkeä keikkapaikka. Silloin varmistui, että Markus Lapsestakin tulee pysyvä entiteetti. Tekeminen on kuitenkin vielä alussa ja tasapainottelua eri projektien välillä on tehtävä. Siinä on kuitenkin luomista edesauttava vapaus, joka syntyy, kun ei tarvitse änkeä ideoitaan vain yhteen muottiin.  Markus Lapsen musiikki on päivätöissä sinnittelevän ja vielä monella tapaa keskenkasvuisen nuoren aikuisen vuodatuksia maailmassa, jossa on niin käsittämättömän paljon surua, murhetta ja huolta, että vain sarkastinen huumori ja pieni vinoilu suuntaan jos toiseen voi siinä auttaa. Kaikissa biiseissä on viestejä, jotka niiden kohteet toivon mukaan joskus hoksaavat ja ottavat itseensä - samoja sanoja ei näet uskalla kasvotusten sanoa. Juhannuslavan laulu on laulu ystäville, joita itse pidin tärkeänä ja joille uhrasin ajatuksen jos toisenkin, mutta harvoin vastakaikua saaden. Jollain pervolla tavalla kuitenkin haluaisin edelleen "voittaa" nämä ystävät takaisin.  Tulevaisuudessa Markus Lapsi koittaa taas aktivoitua keikoille ja uutta musiikkiakin julkaistaan onneksi jo ennen kesää.  LINKIT:  FacebookSpotify Instagram: @markuslapsi   Musiikkia saatavilla myös suuresta osasta muita suoratoistopalveluita samoilla tiedoilla.  PARASTA KOTIKULMILLA: Lempiasiani Tampereella on ehdottomasti tamperelainen pärisevä ärrä sekä loputtomiin venyvä sääääääää, jotka tekevät tamperelaisesta puheenparresta hauskaa ja tuntuvat näin kieli solmussa puhuvalle helpolta ja soljuvalta ääntää. Tampereen kovimmat keikkapaikat ovat ehdottomasti rohkealla ja määrätietoisella UG-meiningillä pyörivä Maanalainen sekä Vastavirta-klubi (ja erityisesti sen yläkerta) joissa on tullut monesti heitettyä ikimuistoisia keikkoja useammassa eri kokoonpanossa. Samat paikat ovat olleet myös kovin ystävällisiä, kun ovat päästäneet vielä toiseenkin kertaan lavojaan kuluttamaan. TUE!:Seuraa ja kuuntele musaa linkeistä!   Nokkonen – Palapeili (Mänttä, rankempi rock) Nokkonen on rockyhtye, joka aloitti toimintansa vuonna 1995. Bändin kokoonpano on ehtinyt muuttua vuosien saatossa lukuisia kertoja ja omaa äänitettyä materiaalia on kerääntynyt jo usemman julkaisun verran. Musiikkityyli on poukkoillut (suomi)rockin, metallin ja progen välillä, alkuaikojen punkvivahteita unohtamatta. Greenrose Faire – Brother Carry On (Tampere, folkrock)Greenrose Faire soittaa taianomaista kelttihenkistä folk-rokkia vastustamattomalla asenteella ja meiningillä. Tamperelaiskuusikon musiikkia hallitsee Sallan kirkas lauluääni, ja sen ympärille viulut ja mandoliinit kietoutuvat rokkikompin kanssa omanlaiseksi kudelmakseen. Greenrose Faire kuulostaa eloisalta ja modernilta mutta silti herättelee kaipuuta vanhoihin hyviin aikoihin kun musiikki oli aitoa ja elämä kunnollista. Orkesteri viihtyy hyvin lavalla, ja on soittanut monenlaisia keikkoja nurkkapubeista konserttisaleihin ja tunnelmallisista teemahäistä kansainvälisille festivaaleille. Lokikirjasta löytyy mm. Fantasy Forest -festivaali Englannissa, useampi vierailu Elfia-festivaalilla Hollannissa sekä kymmenen vuotta putkeen Suomen suurimmilla keskiaikafestivaaleilla Hämeenlinnassa. Greenrose Faire myös järjestää Tampereen Tallipihalla vuosittain omaa minifestaria nimeltä Medieval Folk Fest.  Jäsenet: Salla Rimmi – laulu Hanna Heinonen – viulu Niilo Sirola – busuki Meiju Enho – koskettimet Mikko Gynther – basso Tomi Hyttinen – rummut  Tarina tähän asti: Lauluntekijä Tomi Hyttisen ja toisen perustajajäsenen Niilo Sirolan tiet kohtasivat hard-rock-bändissä. Kesti muutama vuosi ennen kuin tuli puheeksi että kumpikin fanittaa fantasiakirjallisuutta ja keskiaikarokkia, jolloin heti päätettiin siltä istumalta pistää uusi yhtye kasaan. "Kumpikaan ei ollut aiemmin tehnyt oikein mitään akustista musiikkia, joten koko kenttä oli auki ja oli hauskaa kokeilla kaikenlaista. Ainoana sääntönä oli että sähkökitaroita ei tähän oteta mukaan," Tomi muistelee.  Talven aikana Niilon kotistudiossa lyötiin nauhalle levyllisen verran demoja ennen kuin bändin muiden soittajien etsintä alkoi. Tampereelta löytyikin joukko soittajia jotka olivat aina halunneet soittaa tämänkaltaista musiikkia mutteivät vaan tienneet sitä vielä. Viimeinen peruskivi loksahti paikalleen kun koelauluun saapui laulajatar Salla Rimmi, jonka kirkas soundi ja luontevan tarkka fraseeraus ratkaisivat valinnan noin viidessätoista sekunnissa.   Orkesterin ensimmäinen täyspitkä albumi "Neverending Journey" julkaistiin 2011, ja sitä seurasi "My Home Is Where My Heart Is" 2013 ja "Feed the Flames" 2015. Vuonna 2017 yhtye vietti kymmenvuotisjuhlaansa, ja sen kunniaksi julkaistiin kokoelma "Decade of Songs and Stories" sekä CD:nä että nuottikirjana. Neljäs levy "Riders in the Night" ilmestyi 1.6.2018 hollantilaisen Friendly Folk Records -yhtiön kautta. Kokoonpanoon on joka levyn myötä tullut pieniä vaihdoksia, ja viides levy onkin juuri äänitysvaiheessa uudella ja kaikkien aikojen kovimmalla miehi- ja naisituksella.  Greenrose Faire vie iloista musiikkia ja markkinahenkeä joka linnaan ja pitäjään ympäri maailmaa. "On ollut mahtava huomata millainen vaikutus musiikillamme on ihmisiin. Skygazers – Living Sun, Dreaming Moon (Tampere, powermetal) Skygazers on vuonna 2018 Kitaristi Joni Jokisen perustama Power Metal yhtye Tampereelta. Bändi sai alkunsa Jonin sooloprojektista jonka materiaalin hän sävelsi ja sanoitti itsekseen ja alkoi äänittämään levyä Muusikoiden.netistä löytämänsä laulajan Heidi Valkaman kanssa. Äänitysten puolessa välissä kosketinsoittaja Henri Vekuna liittyi mukaan yhtyeeseen ja siitä asti tähän päivään yhtye on jatkanut tällä kokoonpanolla, samalla julkaisten 22.01.2019 ensimmäisen omakustanne albuminsa nimeltä "Call Of Eternity". Tällä hetkellä yhtye etsii Rumpalia joukkoonsa ja aikoo tähdätä heti sopivan tyypin löydyttyä keikkalavoille. Iina Kuu – Morsiamen laulu (Tampere, popiskelmä) Olen tamperelainen laulaja-lauluntekijä Iina Kuu Syksyllä 2016 tein ison päätöksen lähteä tavoittelemaan ”kuuta taivaalta”. Päätin toteuttaa haaveeni ryhtyä lauluntekijäksi. Tästä alkoikin ihmeellinen seikkailu. Aluksi kaiken piti olla vain leikkiä ja nuoruuden haaveen hapuilua. En ihan itsekään uskonut, että siitä syntyy mitään sen kummempaa. Kunpahan vain vähän harrastelen. Pikkuhiljaa vauhti kiihtyi, tuli bändikokeilua, biisintekokilpailuja, duoa, sekä erilaisia tapahtumia. Askel askeleelta lähdettiin kohti korkeampia sfäärejä. Alun suurimpina tapahtumina voisin sanoa kesän 2018 Inspiraationa Juice-kilpailun, jossa Duo Arktinen Kuu kokoonpanolla lähetetty yksi kuudesta kilpailukappaleestani ylsi ihan mukavasti 20 parhaan joukkoon. Tällä kokoonpanolla tuli myös tehtyä muutamia keikkoja, joista hienoin oli olla Ruutana Rockin avauskokoonpanona 2019 Kesän kynnyksellä toteutinkin sitten ultimate unelmani, sain tilaisuuden aloittaa debyyttisingleni Morsiamen laulu teon. Sävel ja sanat ovat käsialaani. Studiotuotannosta ja sovituksesta vastaa Jukka Ruostila. Ajattelin silloin että se on minun ”kuuni taivaalta”, mutta eivätpä asiat siihen jääneet.. Kappale menestyi FinnRadioFM kesän Top10 listalla pysyen siellä juhannuksesta viikolle 31, eli listan loppuun. Jatkona pysyin saman kanavan syksyn TOP20 listalla täydet 8 viikkoa. Radio Suomi -Södertäljen TOP20 syyskuu, kappale saavutti ensimmäisen sijan. Syyskuussa vierailin myös Lähi Radio Helsingin vieraana ohjelmassa ”Vaunu ilman kuljettajaa”, jossa soitin livenä omia säveltämiä kappaleitani. Marraskuussa 2019 näki toinen singleni, Tarinoita päivän valon. Kappale pääsi kuten edeltäjänsä FinnRadio.FM äänestyksiin ja on pysynyt TOP20 listoilla tähän päivään saakka, eli tammikuussa 19 ollaan vielä TOP-lista äänestyksissä mukana.. Lisäksi kappaleen tiimoilta olen ollut haastattelussa Radio Suomi Södertäljen sekä SSS-Radion lähetyksissä. Nämä löytyvät podcasteina kanavien sivuilta. Tarinoita nappasi myös Joulukuun Top1 paikan Radio Suomi Södertäljen äänestyksissä. Olin myös FinnRadio.FM vuoden 2019 Suomi Pop artisti äänestyksessä sijalla 7. Kappaleeni ovat päässeet soimaan myös radiokanavilla, kuten Radio Pooki, Radio Sun, Pispalan Aallot, SSS-Radio sekä nettiradiossa, kuten Radio Hulabaloo, Jarskin Kuumat Aallot, FinnRadio.FM, Radio Suomi Södertälje, Radio Soi... Radioiden lisäksi minut on huomioitu mm. Pelastabändi.com ja Suomiviihde.fi sekä Häät.fi sivustoilla  TULEVAISUUDEN NÄKYMÄT,  *Helmikuussa julkaistaan kolmas singleni ”Kaipuuni helinä” Suunnitteilla on julkaista lähitulevaisuudessa myös 2 muuta singleä. *Facebookissa perustimme muutaman musiikintekijä-ystäväni kanssa ryhmän Svengi-Jengi, joka on juuri suunnattu sellaisille ihmisille, jotka tosissaan ovat julkaisemassa tai jo julkaisseet radiosoittoon tähtäävää musiikkia. Ryhmän sisällä pohdimme tähän aiheeseen liittyviä kysymyksiä ja jaamme tietoa. Näin kaikkien ei tarvitse keksiä polkupyörää uudestaan. Jos ryhmä kiinnostaa, yhteys allekirjoittaneeseen. Toistaiseksi ryhmä ei löydy hakemalla. *Jussi Kaakkolammin hyppysissä on lähitulevaisuudessa koota ammattilaisista koostuvaa bändiä, jolla päästäisiin keikoille tekemilläni kappaleilla.  Helmikuun tienoilla ilmestyy Hervannan Sanomissa juttua minusta biisintekijäjä ja mahdollisesti raotamme salaisuuden verhoa tulevan singlen suhteen. Voisi sanoa, että pienestä ajatuksesta syntyi aikamoinen pöhinä ja vauhti kiihtyy. Ne muutama ensimmäinen vuosi oli ajatuksen kypsyttelyä. Toivomalla kappaleita, ne tulevat helpommin huomioiduksi. Artisti kiittää!    08. Kormus – MC Perkele (Tampere, suomirock) Tamperelainen Kormus perustettiin vuonna 2013. Yhtye aloitti duona, johon kuuluivat Anton Äikäs ja Kari Luomaharju. Muutaman keikan jälkeen duosta päätettiin tehdä trio. Basistia pohtiessa Anton tokaisi Karille legendaariset sanat: "Mä tunnen tasan yhden kovan basistin ja sulla ei oo muuta vaihtoehtoo kuin tulla toimeen sen kanssa."  Kokoonpano on ollut siitä asti sama: Anton Äikäs - kitara/laulu, Aaro Alatalo - basso/taustalaulu ja Kari Luomaharju - rummut/taustalaulu. Olemme tehneet omakustannebändinä 12 singleä, kolme EP:tä ja kolme pitkäsoittoa, joista viimeisin "MÖLINÄÄ" julkaistiin 4.10.2019. Levyn julkaisukeikka soitettiin täydessä Tampereen Bar Ihkussa. Levyn kruunasi Juho Juntusen taiteilemat kannet ja se julkaistiin neljässä eri formaatissa: CD, vinyyli, kasetti ja suoratoistopalvelut. Yhtyeellemme on aina ollut tärkeää tehdä suurin osa julkaisuista myös fyysisenä versiona ja panostaa kansitaiteeseen.  Yhtyeen uusin julkaisu on tällä hetkellä jouluaattona 2019 suoratoistopalveluissa julkaistu live-ep "JAUZAA!". Ep on äänitetty levynjulkaisukeikalla Tampereen Bar Ihkussa 5.10.2019. Kappaleemme ovat saaneet soittoa paikallisradioiden taajuuksilla ja singlemme "Yhden illan prinsessa" vietti täydet 50 päivää Radio Suomipopin Pop top 10 -listalla fanien äänestyksen voimalla.  Kantava ajatus Kormuksen toiminnassa on ollut alusta asti oman musiikin tekeminen ja esittäminen, terve ylpeys omasta tekemisestä sekä hyvien keikkojen soittaminen ympäri maata. Olemme tehneet kuudessa vuodessa noin 600 keikkaa kouluista takapihajuhliin ja pienistä pubeista suurten festareiden lavoille. Yhtye on vuosien aikana esiintynyt niin omakotitalon makuuhuoneessa, rippijuhlissa takapihan teltassa, festareista mm. Hämyvestareilla, Aitoon kirkastusjuhlilla, Pöheikön pölläyksessä ja pienempien kylien kesätapahtumissa kuin myös häissä ja senioritalon taloyhtiön kevätjamboreessa. Keikka kuin keikka, Kormus järjestää show'n.2016-2017 järjestimme Tampereella Kormus-klupia, jossa vieraana kävivät mm. Tommi Läntinen, Heikki Salo, Matthau Mikojan, Jussi Selo, Vesa Holmala, Hauli Bros ja Costello Hautamäki. Illat alkoivat Kormuksen omalla setillä, jonka jälkeen illan vieras esitti kanssamme omaa tuotantoaan kertoen tarinoita biisien takaa. Vuoden 2016 lopussa Ruoveden kunta palkitsi yhtyeen kunnan kulttuurielämän elävöittämisellä.  2018 lanseerasimme yhdessä Kaleva Brewing companyn kanssa Kormus Sleep walker -oluen, jota myytiin kevään ajan. Olut oli osa "Unissakävelijä"-singlemme mainoskampanjaa. Kyseisen singlen myötä aloimme levittää sanomaamme myös nuoremmille kuulijoille. Kappale kehottaa olemaan rohkeasti oma itsensä ja uskomaan omaan tekemiseensä ja unelmiin. Tämän pohjalta toteutuivat vuonna 2019 aloitetut koulukeikat, joilla esiinnymme 6-12 -vuotiaille lapsille esittäen kappaleitamme, jotka sopivat kaikenikäisille sekä kertoen bänditoiminnasta, oman musiikin tekemisestä ja soittoharrastuksesta. Vuoden 2018 alussa julkaistiin myös Kormuksen tilaustyönä Ruoveden kunnalle tekemä tunnuskappale "Tää on Ruovesi!". Kappale sai valtakunnallista näkyvyyttä, kun kunnan TV-mainos pyöri Nelosen kanavilla huhtikuussa 2019. Kormus on myös tehnyt varuskuntakeikkoja, joiden ansiosta olimme vuonna 2018 Suomen Sotilaskotiliiton Vuoden yhtye. Uusin albumimme "MÖLINÄÄ" sisältää aiempaa rankempaa tuotantoa niin tekstien kuin soitonkin osalta. Sanoituksissa käsitellään vakavia aiheita rakkaudesta terveeseen itsetuntoon ja ilmastonmuutokseen. He, jotka tuntevat yhtyeen aikaisempaa tuotantoa, löytävät levyltä myös yhtyeelle ominaista huumoria. Musiikkivideoillaan Kormus on halunnut herättää keskustelua mm. päihteiden käytöstä, Tinder-kulttuurista ja itsetunto-ongelmista. Videoissa on käytetty karrikoituja hahmoja ja asiat on esitetty suoraan, jotta viesti menee perille. Jokaisessa videossa näkyy myös yhtyeelle ominainen huumori. Ja Maailmankaikkeuden Suvijenkka -videolla vierailee jopa kappaleen nimen keksinyt Popeda-basisti Jyrki K. Melartin.  Nyt kun vuosi 2020 on startannut, Kormus katsoo eteenpäin. Kevääksi julkaistaan uutta musiikkia ja suurin tähtäin on huhtikuussa. Perjantaina 3.4.2020 Kormus esiintyy Tampereen G Livelabissa laajennetulla kokoonpanolla juhlistaen kitaristi-laulaja Antonin kymmenvuotista uraa ammattimuusikkona. Mies on 15-vuotiaasta asti elättänyt itsensä tehden omaa musiikkia ja keikkaillen ympäri Suomea. Lisäksi kevättalvi kuluu promoten lokakuussa ilmestynyttä "MÖLINÄÄ"-albumia ja keikkaillen koko vuosi ahkerasti. Tim Creole & Hot Rods – Jitter Bop Baby (Pälkäne, rockabilly) Pälkäneläinen Tim Creole & Hot Rods perustettiin osittain vahingossa vuonna 2017. Me vanhat pitkän ja monipuolisen musiikkihistorian omaavat soittokaverit kokoonnuimme yhteen, kun tarvittiin pop-up ohjelmaa. Huomasimme, että tämähän on kivaa. Huomionarvoista on, että kukaan tässä bändissä ei soita ”ykkössoitintaan”. Bändimme on sen verran tuore, että tällä kokoonpanolla ei ole vielä kertynyt ikimuistoisia tekoja. Keikkailemme lähinnä Pirkanmaan alueella yksityistilaisuuksissa, kesätapahtumissa, musiikkipubeissa ja ravintoloissa. Soitamme 50-luvun Rock´n Rollia monipuolisesti Rockabillystä balladeihin. Luxury Toys – Never Go Out (Tampere-Helsinki, rock) Nyt kannattaa olla hereillä, sillä kohta on taas oikean rock-yhtyeen aika ja tässä on teille seuraava The Rolling Stones. Luxury Toys on kaikkea sitä, mitä rakastamme musiikissa. Se ei ole täydellinen, mutta se on aito ja kiinnostava yhtye. LToys ei ole parhaiden ystävien bändi eikä virheettömillä sessiomuusikoilla silattu, muovisen laskelmoitu projekti. Tämä yhtye on elämäntapamme ja henkireikämme. Se on lahjamme Suomen tylsälle rock-musiikin kentälle ja samalla pakomme todellisuudesta. Juuri 12 vuotta täyttänyt Luxury Toys on levyillään monipuolinen, kunnianhimoinen ja omaperäinen. Yhtyeen musiikillisessa noitakeitoksessa ovat aineksina rockin lisäksi, blues, soul, funk, country ja folk. Orgaanisten ainesosien annetaan kiehua ja lopuksi lisätään punk. Hakusanoilla löytää netistä ainoastaan kiitettäviä levyarvosteluja, mutta oikeat rock-yhtyeet kuuluu kokea livenä. LToys soittaa jokaisen livekeikkansa kuin se olisi viimeinen. Dynaamiset keikkasetit tarjoavat kauniin intiimejä akustisia hetkiä ja ukkosen lailla jyliseviä vaarallisia myrskyjä. Yhtyeen soitossa kuuluu roso ja juuri se jokin selittämätön lämpö, groove ja taika, joka saavutetaan soittamalla yhdessä näin kauan yhtyetoveria vihaten ja rakastaen. Luxury Toys on julkaissut ”They Come in Feathers” -debyytti EP:n lisäksi myös pitkäsoitot “Music is Liquid” ja “The Rest is Noise”. Torvessa ja Tirrassa vallitsee kaiken suvaitseva "tule sellaisena kuin olet" -kulttuuri ja useina iltoina viikossa kuulee livekeikkoja ilman genrerajoja. Hienoa, että tällä muovisten yökerhojen ja yhdentekevien cover- ja bilebändien aikakaudella on vielä mestoja, joissa pääsee soittamaan omaa musaa ihmisille. Jos diggaa biiseistä, niin sitten vain peukutus Facebookissa ja seuraajaksi instagramissa, niin saa tehokkaimmin tietoa keikoista. Jos osuu omaan maantieteelliseen sijaintiin ja aikatauluun, niin sitten ehdottomasti mestoille meitä moikkaamaan.    12. Seppo V – Balladi (Akaa, suomirock) Seppo V on nimestään huolimatta akaalainen bändi, joka tarjoilee rehellistä ja reipasta suomenkielistä kitararokkia. Setillinen omia biisejä on matkassa mukana. Biisit on tarinoita elävästä elämästä ja sen vaiheista. Musiikki on vauhdikasta ja melodista meininkiä!  Bändin soittajat koostuvat sekä ammattilaisista musiikin saralla että pidemmälle ennättäneitä harrastajista. Keikkoja on tehty vain yksi: Viiskytä -levyn julkaistus keikka 5.10.2019 ja paikkana Pub Leskirouva Akaan Toijalassa. Nimensä mukaisesti levy julkaistiin juhlistamaan bändin nokkamiehen puolen vuosisadan rajapyykkiä. Levynjulkaisukeikka oli oikein menestyksekäs ja mieleenpainuva ja se tehtiin täydelle ravintolayleisölle! Viiskytä levy oli jatkumoa kymmenen vuotta aikaisemmin julkaistulle EP levylle: Seppo & the Salminen Band: Ensimmäiset 40 vuotta. Levy julkaistiin sadan kappaleen CD painoksena ja sen tekemiseen osallistui samoja soittajia, kuin nyt uudemmalle Viiskytä albumillekin. Matkan varrella viimeisen kymmenen vuoden aikana on tehty musaa myös Maanantaikappale bändin kanssa ja levynjulkaisukeikalla lokakuussa 2019 kuultiin kappaleita myös niiltä ajoita. Näistä vanhemista kappaleista on julkaistu muutamia digitaalisella EP:llä "Nelkytä Plus". 2020 on tarkoitus tehdä pari keikkaa, jos ja kun sopivia tilaisuuksia tulee eteen. Myös uusia biisejä kirjoitetaan parhaillaan ja niitä on tehty aikaisemmasta poiketen pienryhmässä biisileirimeiningillä. Saattaa olla hyvinkin, että uusi julkaisu tehdään vuoden sisällä. Mitään isoja odotuksia tai tavoitteita ei tulevaisuudelle ole rakennettu, mutta katsotaan rennosti mitä tulee vastaan. Homma jatkuu muodossa tai toisessa. Akaan isoin tapahtuma on Toijalan Markkinat, jolloin koko kylä kokoontuu juhlimaan kesää. Markkinat pidetään aina koulun päättymisen jälkeen seuraavan viikon viikonloppuna ja se on myös ainoa viikonloppu vuodessa jolloin meininki on kovaa kaupungissamme.. Akaan ylpeydet ovat Akaa-Volley lentopallossa sekä Akaa Futsal futsalissa. Facebookin fanisivusta vois myös käydä tykkäämässä.   13. J Mikael – Puolesta (Tampere, laulaja-lauluntekijä) Olen Janne M. Salo. Janne Saloja on niin monta että on pitänyt ottaa käyttöön toisen nimeni (Mikael) alkukirjain. Tästä muodostui äskettäin artiistinimi J Mikael. Viisitoistavuotiaana synnyinseudullani Jämsässä aloin soittamaan rumpuja, vaikka rytmiikan lisäksi musiikissa kiehtovaa oli myös tunnelmat ja tekstit. Koitin vähän myös kirjoittaa ja kohta sivarissa ollessani lauluja tulikin nipullinen. Siitä on jo aikaa -pari vuosikymmentä elämä oli taipumuksensa mukaisesti täyttynyt niin ettei luovuudelle vaan ollut riittävästi tilaa ja aikaa. Pikkuhiljaa aloin tietoisesti karsia asioita, jotta jäisi aikaa kirjoittamiselle. Ajatuksissa oli aluksi pelkkää kirjoittamista enkä vielä silloin tiennyt että se tulisi nivoituisi näin kiinteästi soittamiseen. Melodioita rupesi myös tulemaan ja 2017 juhannusaattona tuli eräällä istumalla ensimmäinen laulu. Siitä alkoi tämä uusi lauluntekokausi, joka kiihtyi kiihtymistään. 2018 oli tuottoisa ja siitä materiaalista valitsin levylle 16 kappaletta, jotka sitten julkaisin levynä 2019 lopulla. 2019 lauluja pulppusi samaan malliin ja alkoi olla aina silloin tällöin myös keikkoja itse sovitusti tai pyynnöstä. Näin aloin siten saada myös hieman esiintymiskokemusta. Uuteen maailmaan astuminen oli tapahtunut, siirtyminen rumpalin roolista eturiviin on ollut aika jännä ja mielenkiintoinen matka. Se on ollut eniten sisäinen matka. Laulujen synnyttäminen on hyvin innostavaa ja inspiroivaa touhua, ja samalla vaatii joidenkin sisäisten esteiden ylittämistä ja siten omaa prosessointia -luovuuskanavaa kun ei voi käskeä, mutta sitä voi hoitaa juuri suostumalla noihin prosesseihin. Esiintymisiin liittyy myös omat samankaltaset asiansa, eikä nekään ole itsestään selvää varsinkaan kun taidot kehittyvät omaa rauhallista tahtiaan. Laulujen teksteissä päälinja menee melko syvissä itsen ja elämän pohdinnoissa, mutta mukana on myös paljon muita sävyjä ja kepeämpää materiaalia. Keikkapaikat ovat olleet monenlaisia joogasalista rock klubeihin. Kaukaisin niistä oli istanbulissa Aasian puolella eräällä klubilla. Kotiseudullani Tampereella mainttavia mm. Tahmelan Huvilan musailta, romu&rahdomin kellari,  Om yoga -koulun hyväntekeväisyysilta sekä Vastavirran yläkerta. Eräs kepeimmistä ja hauskimmista keikoista oli Pispalan saunayhdistyksen 30v juhla, jonne sain kutsun ja jossa siten viihdytin vartavasten tekemälläni sauna aiheisella laululla. Palautetta olen saanut ihan mukavasti. Yksi mieleen painunut tapaus oli kerran kun olin asematunnelissa katusoittamassa ja eräs kiireinen junaan menijä halusi kovasti ostaa levyn, joita siinä oli näkösällä, muttei hänellä ollut rahaa :D -laittoi kyllä myöhemmin tilille ja kertoi vielä kappaleen joka oli erityisesti vaikuttanut. Homma on suht alullaan mutta tuntuu menevän eteenpäin ja uusia kiinnostavia keikkojakin on tulossa. Se on myös kulttuurihistoriallisesti erittäin arvokas paikka. Yhteisölliseen kunttuuritoimintaan keskittyvä talo on saatu viime vuonna vuokralle kapungilta, joka uhkaa jättää vuokarasopimuksen lyhyeksi ja myydä rakennuksen tontteineen.  TUE!: Tällähetkellä paras tapa tukea toimintaani on pyytää järjestämälleen keikalle. I’m your host, Kate Shaw. This week we’ve got another listener suggestion. Pranav really really wants me to do an episode about hybrid animals, but I’ve been dragging my feet on it because I actually already did an episode on the topic back in 2017—but only for Patreon subscribers. It wasn’t my best episode so for various reasons I’d decided not to unlock it. But Pranav really really wants to learn about hybrids! So I’ve taken part of the Patreon episode and added a lot of newer information to it to bring it up to date and make it more interesting. The term for an animal with parents of different species is hybrid. Crossbreed is also a common term, although technically a crossbred animal is one with parents of the same species but different breeds, like a labradoodle is a crossbreed of a Labrador and a poodle. Both parents are domestic dogs. A mule, on the other hand, is a hybrid between a horse and a donkey, specifically a mare and a jack, which is what a male donkey is called. The offspring of a stallion and a lady donkey, known as a jenny, is a hinny. So why can a horse and a donkey breed while, for instance, a possum and a rat can’t? The two species must belong to the same family, and with very few exceptions, they must also belong to the same genus. The genus is indicated in an animal’s scientific name. Equus caballus is a horse and Equus africanus is a donkey, while a Labrador and a poodle are both Canis familiaris, or Canis lupus familiaris depending on who you ask. The Virginia opossum is Didelphis virginiana while the brown rat is Rattus norvegicus. They’re not even slightly related, although superficially they look alike. If the hybrid’s parents are from species with different numbers of chromosomes, hybrid males will almost always be sterile. You can’t cross two mules to get more mules, for instance, because male mules can’t make babies. Female mules are sometimes fertile but very rarely conceive. Horses have 64 chromosomes while donkeys have 62. Mules end up with 63. Hinnies are much rarer than mules because if the female of a pair of related species has fewer pairs of chromosomes than the male, it’s less likely that any offspring will result. More closely related species can have fertile offspring. Killer bees, for instance, are hybrids of a European honeybee and an African honeybee. The two are actually subspecies of the honeybee, Apis mellifera, so it’s less like creating a hybrid and more like crossing a Labrador and a poodle to get an adorable happy pup with curly hair. It seemed like a really good idea. The result was supposed to be a tropical bee that would produce more honey. What actually happened was killer bees. Which do actually kill people. Hundreds of people, in fact, since they escaped into the wild in 1957 and started spreading throughout the Americas. When animals hybridize even though they aren’t of the same genus, it’s called an intergeneric hybrid. That’s the case with sheep and goats. While sheep and goats are related on the subfamily level, they belong to separate genuses. Sheep have 54 chromosomes while goats have 60. That’s enough of a difference that most hybrid babies don’t survive long enough to be born alive, but it does happen occasionally. Usually the babies have 57 chromosomes, and sometimes the babies survive and even prove to be fertile when crossed with either a goat or a sheep. So that’s weird. The atoll of Tetiaro is a string of tiny islands in French Polynesia, about 60km away from Tahiti. The islands – known as ‘motus’ to local Polynesians – are unique ecosystems that are crucial nesting sites for native seabirds. But invasive species threaten to disrupt these fragile environments – a fate seen across many islands in the Pacific. Rats arrived with early human settlers and have driven bird species off some of the islands. Meanwhile introduced mosquitoes have thrived in the warm conditions, and now act as vectors for diseases such as the Zika virus. Rat eradication experts have travelled to one of the uninhabited islands in the atoll, called Reiono, to attempt an experimental eradication of thousands of rats with one mammoth poison bait drop. They’re also using this as an opportunity to better understand why eradication attempts have been less effective on tropical islands. At the same time, on another island in the chain called Onetahi, researchers are releasing swarms of sterilised male mosquitoes to try to rid this motu of the disease-carrying pest. Carnivorous plants aren't always scary: some form mutually beneficial symbiotic relationships with animals. The Fanged Pitcher-Plant from Borneo, Nepenthes bicalcarata (yes it actually has fangs), provides a home for carpenter ants, Camponotus schmitzi. And another species, Nepenthes hemsleyana, "communicates" with bats to encourage them to roost inside it, then feeds off their poop.Kathleen Garland, from the Weisbecker Lab at the University of Queensland, has been measuring bandicoot forelimbs, which are more diverse than those of other marsupial species. She explains how this supports the theory that marsupial forelimbs evolved to help them climb into their mother's pouch, because bandicoots are the exception to the rule.We also give a shoutout to Heteropoda davidbowie and Wunderpus photogenicus as we look at some odd species names. This includes those named to insult people and tautonyms, i.e. those with repeated genus and species names (e.g. Rattus rattus, Bison bison and Gorilla gorilla gorilla), which is similar to the linguistic phenomenon of contrastive focus reduplication, as described in the famous Salad-salad paper ("It's tuna salad, not SALAD-salad").

Zurzeit werden zwei technische Standards für Mobilfunkkommunikation, GSM und UMTS eingesetzt. Athermische Wirkungen durch die dabei verwendeten hochfrequenten elektromagnetischen Felder auf kognitive Leistungen sind umstritten. In der vorliegenden Studie wurden Einflüsse auf Lern- und Gedächtnisleistung durch chronische Exposition durch linear polarisierte ebene ungepulste elektromagnetische Felder unter Fernfeldbedingungen bei 900 MHz (GSM-Mobilfunkstandard) bzw. 1,966 GHz (UMTS-Mobilfunkstandard) untersucht. Drei aufeinander folgende Generationen albinotischer Wistar Hannover Ratten wurden unter Laborbedingungen in Käfigen mit zwei Männchen oder drei Weibchen in identischen Expositionskammern gehalten. Die verwendete spezifische Absorptionsrate von 0,4 W/kg entspricht dem Grenzwert für berufliche Ganzkörperexposition. Eine scheinbefeldete Gruppe diente als Kontrolle. Die Lernleistung sexuell naiver Versuchstiere wurde im Alter von zehn bis elf Wochen mittels operanter Konditionierung in automatisierten Skinnerboxen erfasst. Die Lernleistung war in beiden Geschlechtern nicht auffällig durch eine chronische Befeldung beeinflusst. Die Gedächtnisleistung von sexuell erfahrenen Ratten im Alter von 26 ± 1,5 Wochen und sexuell naiven Männchen im Alter von 14 ± 1 Wochen wurden mit männlichen Jungtieren mittels social discrimination-Tests untersucht. Die chronische Befeldung bei 900 MHz (GSM) scheint die Gedächtnisleistung für sozial relevante Informationen zu vermindern. Die chronische Befeldung bei 1,966 GHz (UMTS) scheint altersabhängige beeinträchtigende Effekte auf die Gedächtnisleistung zur Folge zu haben.

In this study ultrasonic examinations in rats were performed to develop a standardized examination technique for the sonographic evaluation of the abdominal organs and the gravidity of the rat. 25 healthy rats in the age between 0.5 and 1.5 years were sonographically examined with a 15 MHz-Transducer. Comparing with the already established sonography in the dog and cat the optimal technique for imaging the organs especially in the rat were developed and the representativity of the different organ planes were evaluated. The emphasis was led on the imaging of normal anatomic and physiologic conditions to get a base for the evaluation of pathologic processes. In exclusion of the pancreas all of the abdominal organs could have been detected and the optimal transducerpositions and standard planes for the different organs were developed. To perform sagittal planes the transducer was placed dorsolateral on the abdominal wall, a transducer position that was never mentioned in literature before. This lead to a markable improved imaging of the kidney, adrenal gland and spleen. Three female rats were examined for gravidity control. Despite the more aggressive behaviour of the pregnant rats an ultrasonographic examination could have been performed without problems and without stressing the rats to much. Good parameters for the determination of the gestation day were the visibleness of the beating heart, of the development of the extremities and of the ossification grade of the fetal skeleton. The sonography of the rat turned out to be a practicable and diagnostical worthy tool for the veterinary clinic as well as for the use in animal-experimental research.
