In this episode of the Planet MicroCap Podcast, I spoke with Leo Trudel, Co-Founder of Aurelion Research, to dig into his global, top-down approach to finding mispriced companies across micro, small, and mid-cap markets - and why he built a firm where the research and the portfolio are one and the same. We break down his obsession with free cash flow over adjusted EBITDA, how he uses AI to hold management teams accountable to years of past guidance, why tankers may still be more compelling than people think, and his contrarian take on where the AI capex buildout is headed. We mention several companies and sectors during this conversation, and I'm not a shareholder in any of them. Many people think of summer as the best time to read. On the beach, on the airplane to a vacation, in between semesters… Sounds like a perfect time to do a literature review. But there are many ways to do a literature review, and in all honesty, we think most people choose the wrong type of review – the “systematic” literature review where they select papers about a phenomenon, do a supposedly structured but not exhaustive search across IS journals, and then criticize the knowledge others have created. We discuss a few alternatives that we think hold more promise: qualitative and quantitative meta analyses, or narrative and integrative reviews. We also point to a few papers that have helped us organize the conversations we read about in the literature – which really, is what literature reviewing is all about. Slam the Gavel welcomes Mary Trudel to the podcast to share her story of SA at the age of 15, which resulted in her son with Down Syndrome was born. However, five New York State Judges, the Elmira police and DA refused to prosecute the individual who raped her in 1995, because he and his family are NYS Corrections Officers. The judge gave her Down Syndrome baby boy, who she walked him through two years of chemo after being diagnosed with leukemia. This individual then gave her son to his sister who collected SSI checks and locked away Mary's son in his room, like a prisoner. Mary has also written a 987 page book with supporting documentation backing every claim. Mary even started a TV show addressing these types of atrocities, https://vimeo.com/channels/breakingthechain. Mary is an advocate for court watching and explained what goes on behind the scenes in these "family courtrooms."To Reach Mary Trudel: rawironsoul@gmail.com*DISCLAIMER* The use of this information is at the viewer/user's own risk. Locked On Capitals - Daily Podcast On The Washington Capitals
In this edition of Locked on Capitals Dan talks about Spencer Carbery arriving in DC and meeting the press for some questions. He talks about the importance of working with Alex Ovechkin. “It's a huge responsibility for me as a head coach,” Carbery said. “I've watched and saw his greatness up close and indirectly and I take a lot of responsibility in that now. So, it's my job as head coach to put him in situations where he can be successful and that's what my challenge is and I don't take that lightly at all. That'll work into how we play as a group and that'll be one of my focuses is how do we put him in situations to succeed.” He then talks about getting this Capitals team competitive again. “I feel like [my style of coaching] is being a strong communicator,” Carbery said. “Our players will know exactly what the expectations are. They'll know exactly where they need to be. Communication with our group, that's right here for me. The other part of that, which I feel like is the balance for me as a coach, is motivating, pushing, setting a high standard and expecting us to always meet that standard and that's a part of it.“There's a lot of proud, highly competitive champions on our roster that are gonna want to prove that we can still [make the playoffs]. That's where my focus will go. How we actually do that on a day-to-day basis, we'll get to work immediately on that.” Later Dan talks to Justin Trudel o Nova Caps about his thoughts on the Spencer Carbery hiring. “Songwriting is kind of where my heart is,” says former Second City music director Tara Trudel, a versatile songwriter and composer based in Los Angeles. Tara's unique talents popped on podcast host Daniel Paisner's admittedly limited radar during the launch of Post in Fall 2022, when she created a mini-musical based on the early days and growing pains of the new social media site. Tara started her career teaching early childhood and elementary school music for Chicago's The Merit School of Music and the city's public school system, before pivoting to comedy and theater—a natural extension of her work with children, she says. These days, Tara makes her principal living writing music for comedy shorts and theme songs for children's books—a collaborative niche she seems to have all to herself. Her work has been featured at SXSW, on Amazon Prime, Sony's Voces Nuevas, and Vulture's “Best Comedy Shorts of the Year.” Tara's score for Chelsea Devantez's short film “Basic” was named “Best Score” at the LA Film Awards and the Festigious International Film Festival. Her debut album, “Fractured: Fairy Tales Remixed,” offers listener's Tara's modern take on the classic stories we think we know, featuring guest appearances by her collaborating partners from the Chicago improv scene, including Ashley Nicole Black, Eddie Mujica, and Mary Sohn. In the 2022 Inflation Reduction Act, President Biden asked energy companies to pump more oil, drill more wells and overall increase fossil fuel production at the behest of the American public. Energy companies have built the existing infrastructure, provided critical resources, including meeting energy demand, and they want to protect what they built. At times that has come at a cost to the climate, the speed at which we will achieve net zero emissions, and public trust. Nonetheless it's important to identify good partners, and today's guest, Bryan Trudel is one of those partners. Bryan is the CFO and Co-founder of Avatar Innovations, a venture studio focused on energy innovation towards net zero. Reality has moved the goalposts for energy companies, and now they have to focus on a net zero future—both to save the planet and to make a profit. In service of this vision, Avatar incubates new energy companies that include net zero in their strategic business plan. On today's episode, we discuss how and why he got to this point, as well as how his work is helping change the minds of other players in the energy space in the episode. You can keep up with Bryan on LinkedIn and follow Avatar on Instagram for updates on their work. Keep up with the show by following The Net Zero Life on Twitter and Instagram (@thenetzerolife). Twitter majority owner and CEO Elon Musk, working with some of the web's most respected independent journalists, has released a flood of new information with regards to the company's internal content moderation policies, revealing for the first time the true extent of employee efforts to suppress speech it deemed inappropriate to the platform. Special guests John D. Trudel & retired Major General Paul E. Vallely join the program to talk about the first series of releases and how Twitter's manipulation of the info stream -- from so-called "shadow banning" to outright deletion of tweets & accounts -- influenced the 2020 election cycle, violated the rights of end-users, and restricted major media outlets from being able to connect with their audience.
