J Darrin Gross I'd like to ask you, Mike Cossette, what is the BIGGEST RISK?   Mike Cossette Well, Darrin, I appreciate all your insight, and I really appreciate that that question. And I like the three phases that you just went through, because that is going to help me restructure how I think about my own risk. I really that that was a nice little light bulb you gave me my personal risk. And I think a lot of investors might be seeing this now, and if they're not, if they're new investors, this is something that is vitally important is over leveraging. I think everyone you know says, Keep X amount of dollars, six, nine months of you know, costs, you know, capex, or what have you in the account I want. I think everyone should increase that because, as you mentioned with the global warming and fires and hurricanes and those black swan events. Everything can be going perfect, but it's what you don't and can't expect or predict that can sink the ship. And we're experiencing that now. Everything you know, even tough, markets going fantastically, you know, fine, and then boom, hurricane hit, no money coming in six months before insurance can even lift a finger, and that can sink a lot of ships, and it almost sunk ours so, and we're still waiting, waiting to see if it will. So I think that is the biggest thing is for so long, we've been going fast, borrowing 232, and a half, three and a half percent interest. Then, why wouldn't you buy this? Cash Flows? Everything makes sense, and capital is available. Government's printing money. Everyone's got their hand out. People are moving fast and not stopping, and assessing their portfolios the way they should be, and really setting aside the emergency funds that are necessary. I think that is, in my opinion, the biggest risk and my biggest risk.

Five Fresh Tips
5 Fresh Tips: Help You Decide If Starting an Event Business is Right for You with Melissa Cossette

Five Fresh Tips

Deciding if you should start an event business can be overwhelming, but you're not alone! Check out these 5 Fresh Tips to help you decide if starting an event business is right for you with Melissa Cossette, Event Strategist, Coach for new business launchers in the events industry, and Founder of MAXevent. You can learn more about Melissa Cossette on her Fresh Starts Profile.5 Fresh Tips to help you decide to start an event planning business:Picture the life you want to wake up to one year from now and beyond. Pause and get really specific: What does success look like for you? How do you want to spend your days? Who are you working with, and what kind of events are you planning? The truth is, we all want financial success and flexibility, but without a clear vision that's tied to your deeper purpose, it can be hard to stay motivated when things get tough. Once you have this vision, it becomes your North Star, guiding your decisions and keeping you focused on the future you're building.Take an honest look at your time, energy, and life commitments. Are you easing into this new venture by taking on a few events while keeping your day job? Or are you diving head-first, ready to fully commit to your dreams? Building an event business isn't an overnight process, and it has to work within the realities of your life. Setting realistic expectations about how much time and energy you can devote now will help you build a sustainable business without burning out or sacrificing what's most important to you.Three: Evaluate your financial stability and resources. Starting any business requires both time and financial flexibility. In the early stages, cash flow can be unpredictable, so it's important to have a safety net in place. Ideally, this means at least six months' worth of savings or other financial support to cover both your personal and business expenses. This isn't just about surviving the slow times—it's about giving yourself the breathing room to invest in your business and set yourself up for long-term success.Four: Identify your specific niche in the events industry. It's tempting to want to plan all sorts of events for all sorts of clients. But trying to appeal to everyone will only dilute your impact. Instead, focus on what you love most about events, and hone in on what you're uniquely good at. Maybe it's crafting stylish micro-weddings, or maybe it's curating unforgettable milestone celebrations that reflect your client's story. Identifying a clear niche not only helps you stand out, but also makes it easier for the best clients to find you.Test your concept through conversations. Once you have a clear vision for your business offering, start sharing it. Everywhere. Talk to people in your circle — friends, family, and yes, even potential clients, even though you might not feel ready. Pay attention to their reactions. Do they get excited? Do they ask follow-up questions? Just as important, notice how you feel. Are you energized when you describe your vision, or do you feel unsure? These conversations are an incredible tool for refining your ideas and validating your concept, so embrace feedback—it's all part of the process.Make sure to check out Fresh Starts Registry: the first and only divorce registry and resource platform, and the fastest growing network of divorce professionals: https://www.freshstartsregistry.com/ Instagram:

How is generative AI evolving, and what can we do about it? While at NDC in Oslo, Richard chatted with Alison Cossette about her work as a data scientist before the ChatGPT explosion in November 2022 and what life has been like since the LLM came to town. Alison talks about the rigor of building AI models using generative AI before ChatGPT and how many of those efforts have diminished when confronted with a friendly, confident language model. Eventually, this rigor will be needed - as the dangers of not managing language models cause problems, and the need for rigor will re-appear. Alison describes steps you can take today to understand how the LLMs you are using are trained and how they are tested. The one with her nose in books all the time. The one with a stack of library books up to her chin. The one who got caught reading under her desk in school (usually during math class). Among all those lovely books that 'addled my brain' as a young girl, the ones that became my best friends were the historical novels—the ones whose rich details and long-ago adventures took me to Regency England, Ancient Israel, the Civil War Era South, hidden rooms in WWII Amsterdam, Colonial America and into the Wild West. It was these stories that brought history to life in a way that schoolbooks never could, and fueled a desire to imagine myself in these times and places that would eventually spill over into my own writing. Since my first book was published in 2016 my books have appeared on numerous bestseller lists, have won both Christy and Carol Awards and have sold thousands of copies all over the world in several languages. And none of it would have ever happened without those first knee-shaking steps of faith and a God whose faithfulness and goodness far outweighs my doubts and insecurities.Thank you for stopping by, I'd love to connect with you on Facebook, Pinterest, or Twitter and you are welcome to drop me an email at connilyn@connilyncossette.com. Don't forget to sign up for my newsletter that will bring you exciting updates and opportunities for giveaways and sales!Visit Connilyn's website.

It's always so fun to talk with Connilyn Cossette, and today's episode of Book Talk is a delight. In her latest novel, Shield of the Mighty, she brings a character from her prior series back — only now he's a grown-up soldier in Saul's army. The heroine is a widow who hates everything about Saul, so there is a clash from the first moment the two meet. Fundamentally this book is a story of moving from brokenness to healing, from vengeance to a place where you leave it all to God. She loves balancing the warrior mindset with romance and a bit of humor. Connilyn has always wanted to be a writer, but she didn't have the confidence to attempt it until she was in her thirties. Now she would tell her younger self to read broadly so she could pull those ideas into her books earlier. As you listen you'll see that procrastination is a big challenge, but deadlines help immensely... There's so much good content in this episode, I can't wait to hear what you think!

Please join me in welcoming Paulina S. Cossette Ph.D. of Acadia Editing Services to the show! Paulina has 15+ years of experience and so much to share, I hope you enjoy this conversation as much as I did! Here are some highlights of things we talked about: The joy in exploring new subjects through copy editing, learning something new each time a manuscript comes across your desk. Mohawk artist Shelley Niro and other inspiring subjects. How even though it's scary to start a new career, we can do scary things. Her background in academia and the similarities and differences between editing and being a professor. The importance of relationships and community even across fields. The benefits of fresh air to maintaining balance, including how gardening can be an emotional outlet. Here are a couple of my favorite quotes from our conversation: “I get to meet people I never would have heard of or learned about or talked to and I get to read their work. When I dig into a manuscript I get to play around with it. I take very seriously that this is someone's passion project that they've worked hours and hours on but I get to tweak it and help make it better–to help them get their message out. That's really rewarding and I really enjoy those relationships I build with my clients.” “You're going to make mistakes. You won't do everything well. But just keep trying. You're going to have problems. There are things you're going to do not well. You'll make mistakes but keep coming back at it, keep trying, and be kind to people.” Talking with Paulina was inspiring, fun, and a total joy. I particularly enjoyed hearing about the why of her editing work–to help. She works primarily with academics editing academic and nonfiction manuscripts. Most of her clients are professors who lead busy lives like she did in her own professorship before she started Acadia Editing Services.  So, she started editing to help lighten the load. With the whole contents of the book in one place (even if it's not tidy), she can clean it up. That way she makes life a little bit easier for her clients one manuscript at a time. Some parting advice from Paulina: don't listen to that little voice in your head that says you can't. You are worth more than you know. In editing (and writing) we often undercharge because we don't believe in ourselves or our worth. Know your worth, believe in yourself, and remember that this is your business. Also, editors aren't here to tear everything down with their red pens, they're here to help your writing shine a little brighter. American Insanity by Leroy E. Cossette"American Insanity" reflects on the political insanity that has overtaken the United States of America. It addresses American citizen's apathetic view of our governing system, both towards elected officials and the ever controlling Washington bureaucracy. How and why the citizens of this Nation have failed their obligation to keep vigilance over our governing politicians and holding them accountable when they fail to uphold their promises and their oath to office. Cossette compares the America he grew up in, which is rapidly slipping away, to the Nation it has now become. "American Insanity" addresses the insanity that we the American citizens are now living through while the "Last Vestige of Hope for Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness," rapidly transforms from a Constitutional Republic into a Marxist-Communist Nation.Cossette addresses a failed two-party political system that no longer supports and protects our Judeo-Christian values upon which the United States was founded. Parties which have lost their moral compass, strength, and courage to protect our Constitutional Republic and the citizens therein.LeRoy Cossette is a Marine Corps Vietnam combat veteran. He has served as Health Care Administrator with the Department of Veterans Affairs for thirty-two years. Created For Creatives | A Podcast by the London International Awards

As businesses continue to develop and change in how they connect to customers, creativity is still the advantage that the advertising industry has in meeting customers and creating excitement around campaigns. Host Chris Smith was joined by LIA 2023 Jurors, Sabaa Quao and Matty Burton. Sabaa was on the inaugural Creativity in Business-to-Business jury and while the category may sound basic, there's nothing basic about the work he saw, as it's exciting to set the bar for a new category. Sabaa told Chris that even when you're selling b2b, you're still selling to a human, so clever and innovative storytelling using creativity is still a major factor in what's going to cut through. Sabaa commented, “nothing happens until someone creative comes up with something....you're still going to need creative people.” He continues with, “I love saying to investment bankers just remember you have nothing to invest in until we come up with something, creative people have to take themselves much more seriously, because when we talk about the complexity of the world and who's equipped, nimble and agile when thinking through a lot of complex situations, that is the very skill that is needed to solve a lot of the complex things that society is dealing with.” All the way from New Zealand, Matty Burton joined LIA's 2023 Digital and Use of Social Media and Influencers jury. Matty seconded Sabaa's call on creativity, saying it's exciting to see the industry changing in real time. He says social media's evolving, but reminds us that businesses and content creators still need to go beyond basic use of a platform to  push, prompt and use it in new ways that challenge our basic understanding of social media and content. Of all the books that would drag me back into Biblical Fiction, one about the cities of refuge in the Old Testament written by Connilyn Cossette seems unlikely. But it was, and now she has a new series that looks into four cousins who run off to fight with King Saul!  Um... WHAT?  I don't know about you, but I'm excited to check out this series, starting with Voice of the Ancient. Listen in to learn why! Note: links may be affiliate links that provide me with a small commission at no extra expense to you. Will You Forgive Me if I Call This Series One of Biblical Proportions? Sorry. Couldn't resist. But seriously, one of the best things about talking to authors like Connilyn Cossette is listening to their deep love for the Word of God and their deep desire to spark something in readers that turns His people (or those seeking Him) to that Word to learn, grow, be encouraged, be convicted, be fed by Him. Connilyn was no different.  And... she writes my favorite kind of Biblical fiction. She writes about places and people who might have known Biblical characters. Her stories give context and culture to a Biblical world that doesn't always make sense to us. And she does it while remaining faithful to historical and Biblical truth. Authors who write like this make it easier for readers to separate fiction from straight-up Scripture. It's harder to get things muddled in your head when it isn't strictly a retelling.  And, the more Biblical fiction like this that I read, the easier it is not to be muddled with stories about well-known Biblical characters. If you're new to Connilyn Cossette, she recommends starting with her first book Counted with the Stars because her stories and characters are interwoven, so you'll get a richer reading experience that way but... Each book also stands on its own. Voice of the Ancient by Connilyn Cossette As the eldest son of a Levite and a Philistine, Avidan is torn between his duty to his family legacy and the desire for something more. After an enemy attack strikes close to home, he takes the opportunity to fight with his cousins for the newly crowned King Saul. But when one of the cousins goes missing during the battle, Avidan refuses to leave him behind. Keziah is the daughter of one of the most powerful clan chiefs in the territory of Manasseh. On the brink of a forced marriage to a loathsome man decades older than her, she has no choice but to run, hoping to find sanctuary with her mother's family. United during their journeys and battling to survive the dangers that surround them, Avidan and Keziah make a pact to travel together. As challenges pile up, they must not only rely on each other to stay alive but also learn to trust the true and eternal King of Israel to guide their every step. Emotions are complicated; they are the reactions we experience in response to events or situations in our lives. We make decisions out of them, and emotions can lead our lives if we are not careful. We don't have to be controlled by our emotions; we can take the information they give us, acknowledge them and then choose to fix our minds on the truth.  Now, that all sounds great, but what happens when hormones are involved? We will also tap on that subject and more in this episode with Patty Cossette. We have an Ebook for you if you struggle with thoughts of not being enough, not being qualified, or feeling overlooked. Have you ever wondered if God is always good? In our choice of words, we hear that we should try to avoid absolutes. Words like; all the time, every, always, never. As I talk with people, I try not to use language like that.  Chances are, even though I may want to say... you always do this, the truth may be that they often do that, but they probably don't always do that. What about God? Can we say that God is always good? That His love for us is unconditional, absolute? Can we perform to earn more of His love? We will explore these topics and more in this conversation. However you are listening to this podcast, would you be sure to subscribe, and if you enjoy this podcast, would you review and rate us?
