Joe brings us the main business news headlines this Wednesday morning.
In 2017, he hung up the robe. He came to realize that voluntary poverty was keeping him from serving the world in the ways he felt called too, so he stepped into a new chapter and joined Long View Asset Management, a sustainability-focused B Corp, eventually becoming a partner where he helps to oversee more than $250 million in assets. From vows of poverty to portfolio management—he knows life has a sense of humor. Doug Lynam, Keynote Speaker, Celebrity Coach and Best-Selling Author has lived a life wilder than a roller coaster designed by Salvador Dalí on a sugar high. He started out as a Marine then took a radical turn becoming a Benedictine monk. For twenty years, he wore the habit while simultaneously leading the mathematics department at a prestigious private school. His education at St. John's College—the delightfully eccentric Great Books school in Santa Fe, New Mexico gave him both philosophical depth and analytical sharpness, a combination that's guided him through every twist and transformation.

Dei Lynam offers analysis on the 76ers' impressive victory over the Warriors, a result that surprised many who anticipated a win for Golden State. Quentin Grimes, however, defied expectations by scoring a career-high 44 points in the match. Additionally, Guerschon Yabuselle contributed significantly with five three-pointers, while Paul George delivered crucial plays in the final moments. Lynam emphasizes the importance of retaining both Grimes and Yabuselle for the upcoming season based on their performances. Earlier this week, the 76ers hosted their Gala to benefit their Youth Foundation. Lynam discusses the outfits worn by various players at the event, and we hear from players like Tyrese Maxey as they share their thoughts during the occasion.
Private credit markets have seen tremendous growth over the past decade, establishing themselves as viable sources of funding for companies across the rating spectrum. That growth may not slow down anytime soon, according to Amanda Lynam, head of Macro Credit Research at BlackRock. Lynam joins Noel Hebert and Sam Geier of Bloomberg Intelligence on this episode of Credit Crunch to walk through trends in the corporate-credit space. The discussion hits on how corporate credit spreads could tighten, the ebbs and flows of financing mix, the default cycle, regional relative value and much more. Credit Crunch is part of the FICC Focus podcast.
Custom Jacks was founded by Veterans Andy Lynam and Scottie Stephens. Andy served in the US Coast Guard for four years and Scottie served five years with the US Marine Corps. Custom Jacks produces stunning works of art that feature the American Flag and can be customized with a logo or other image. What makes their works unique is they are cut to present a three dimensional product that makes the flag appear to be fluttering in the breeze. The company name was derived from the Union Jacks that fly on the bow of our ships. Scottie was doing wood working part time and the idea for the Custom Jacks 3-D design literally came to him in a dream one night. Like so many Veteran entrepreneur origin stories, Scottie began crafting them in his garage. Andy lived nearby and when Scottie showed him one of the jacks, Andy immediately asked if he could buy it. Not long thereafter they decided to turn Scottie's labor of love hobby into a business. Scottie describes their products a dual patriotic symbol. “The left side of the jack, the American Flag, should be your first passion. The right side of the jack represents your second passion.” Every one of their jacks is custom finished by hand and includes a certificate of authenticity. They have filed patents for some of their processes. Like many start-ups, the self-funded their start up. The company was founded in January of 2019 and they had a rough period during COVID, when they had to shut production down for five months. Over 50% of their employees are Veterans or have family members in the military. Andy says this leads to a “mission first” focus and different work ethic. They have produced Custom Jacks from sports teams, corporations and even a radio host or two. Their products are also featured in all the Buc-ees restaurants across America. They also work with various non-profits to provide Custom Jacks for fundraisers. TAKEAWAY: “Incorporate all your workers in the process, treat them like family.”

This installment of The Axis Effect features Joe Lynam, Vice President M&A at Corum Group Inc. As technology's role on the world stage continues its decades-long exponential growth, so does the importance of how it affects each industry. For companies that fit under the definition of startup, leaders face an overwhelming number of possibilities, especially in the world of mergers and acquisitions. To this day, they've created over $20 billion in wealth with an impressive record of over 500 closed transactions. For top team members like Lynam, the chase for acquiring the best startups never ends, especially as the number of software companies only grows with the software world. Lynam discusses the importance of an exit strategy, some companies he's helped Corum Group acquire over the years, what it means to be a quality leader for a startup, and helps explain the M&A process for software companies. To learn more, tune in to “Leading the World of Mergers & Acquisitions.”

A mere two months late, we have a look at the 15th Doctor's debut in the 2023 Christmas special, "The Church on Ruby Road".
17 December 2023 | Join us as we look at how Mary and Joseph's arrival in Bethlehem was anything but perfect. What should have been a homecoming of sorts in a small and tight-nit community becomes a place of embarrassment and rejection. Many of our families can also be like this. There are some of us who have been rejected by our own families, or we ourselves have rejected those in our families. The brokenness of the family unit is one of the key things Jesus has come to transform and reconcile.
There are many things that make this time of year special, one of which is music - whether that is carols or corny Christmas songs, they can prompt memories and get us together to sing as a community in ways that we simply don't at any other time of year. But there is strong evidence to suggest that singing has physiological, psychological and social benefits and we should not just relegate community singing to Christmas. Today I am speaking to two psychologists who believe that schools can and should be a place where singing is embraced everyday - Dr Yoon Irons and Natasha Hendry. As head of Macro Credit Research within Private Markets at BlackRock, Amanda Lynam is responsible for assessing how the broad picture of risk impacts credit markets and the securities within them. In doing so, she marries the top down with an understanding of company fundamentals, a skillset developed during her time in a sell-side research role focused on the insurance and healthcare sectors. Our discussion takes stock of the current opportunity set in corporate credit, exploring Amanda's process for finding value amidst an environment of middling credit spreads, but high all-in yields. As most of the heavy lifting is currently being done by the risk-free component, her team sees this continuing, with a view that the bar is high for Fed rate cuts well into 2024.Expecting a higher cost of capital to prevail for some time, Amanda expects more dispersion of returns across issuers in credit, with a view that certain capital structures that added considerable leverage when rates were low will struggle as they ultimately need to refinance. She notes that to some extent, higher rates are already biting, with defaults picking up and with the maturity wall beginning in earnest in 2025, corporates will need to engage markets on rolling paper in the not-too-distant future.Next, we talk about the supply and demand for funds in credit markets. First, on the demand for capital side, she states that 2022 was the lowest issuance year in high yield since the GFC, a favorable technical backdrop that is fading as a tailwind this year and next. With respect to the supply of credit, a topic that has received more attention post the SVB debacle, Amanda shares her team's focus on opportunities in private credit, a market she sees as expanding amidst the contraction in bank lending and offering higher spread compensation. We finish the discussion with some of Amanda's views on the progress of empowering careers for women in finance. She says it is important for females to have both a mentor who helps you in the day to day and a sponsor who can help you advance on a longer-term basis. I hope you enjoy this episode of the Alpha Exchange, my conversation with Amanda Lynam.

After his son Pablo died from Bilateral Wilms Tumor 6 days after his 6th birthday in 2008, Jeff Castelaz decided to ride his bicycle from Florida to California to honor the memory of his son. That ride raised $250,000 which was the seed money used to start the Pablove Foundation. On today's podcast Kerstin Lynam who is the foundation's Chief Executive Officer, and Lauren Aufiero who is the Marketing Director will talk about this foundation which has dual missions of teaching photography to Pediatric Cancer patients and raising money to help underfunded cancers. Their primary objective of course is to help these kids who are so deserving of support.
I first heard Alex Jay Lynam speak at Dani Wallace's Bee Inspired event in March and I was so struck by their Don't Fear the Queer talk which left a powerful impression on me. Since then I started to question myself and the work I do on my podcast. Was I really showing up and creating a fully inclusive space for women on my platform, and if not why? Looking over the 130 guests I've invited on the show so far, I don't think I've ever had an open conversation with someone from the gay or queer community. I'm holding myself accountable as I think I've been avoiding the topic for fear of getting things wrong, not wanting to offend people, saying the wrong thing, and upsetting somebody. Listening to Alex made me realise that we all have an opportunity in whatever work we're doing to include and show our support for people from the LGBTQ community. From the age of 5 Alex had a love of musical theatre and they had the opportunity of working with a range of celebrities in theatre and TV. From the age of 10 they were determined to be in the West End, you would even have watched them on Coronation Street. By the time they were 12 Alex begun questioning their identity and sexuality and when auditioning for Masculine roles and being knocked back, the question came up, ‘Am I a boy or girl.' Alex came out in high school as a cis female lesbian, a decision they thought would ease the uncertainty of how they felt about their body, but it got worse as they were then bullied in high school and also into college. Not fitting the ‘stereotype' of a musical theatre female, feeling isolated and shamed, Alex dropped out of college. The following years saw Alex hit the party life in Manchester hard, into alcohol and substance misuse. Their mental health declined further, falling into abusive and toxic relationships. Alex felt there was no light at the end of the tunnel, with little support and guidance around the questions of gender and self-discovery, they felt alone. Hearing their story really hit home just how important our role is in showing up and supporting anyone we know that may be coming out. It's easy to assume once they've taken that brave step then the weight drops off their shoulders, but if there isn't that open acceptance from society how do they feel valued? Alex's life was spiralling out of control and at the age of 22 they were arrested; they were given the option to change their path or go to prison. Thankfully Alex chose the latter and completed a journey of rehabilitation, learning how to find and build their self-love. They finally got to place when they could embrace their true self and came out as non-binary. Alex has used their life experience along with their previous work with young people and vulnerable adults in all different settings, to create Beyond the Binary. With a passion to help schools, companies, families, and individuals around LGBTQIA+ inclusion through training, consultancy, and public speaking, so that everyone can be seen and heard unapologetically as themselves. We all have a responsibility to make sure no one is left out of the active inclusion conversation. Alex reminds us that it's ok to get things wrong, use the experience to learn and have honest and open conversations. What does Free to Be mean to Alex? “Free to be means for me to be my whole self and be my whole self in the spaces that I take up and being able to be safe in the spaces that I am. Being able to be visibly queer and not have to worry that I'm going to be hit with discrimination or abuse”. Whilst it's great that June is Pride month this should not just be a token gesture so I'm making a commitment today to make sure I include and seek out more midlife stories from those in the LGBTQ community who want to share their stories. https://beyondthebinarywithalex.co.uk/about-alex-inclusivity-advocate/ https://www.instagram.com/beyondthebinary4/ Keep being fabulous Rachel https://linktr.ee/libertefreetobe --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/libertefreetobe/message

A certain kind of faith and trust needs to happen in the 'letting go' because we're waiting for what's next to come. And that can be quite disorienting."Resources Mentioned in This EpisodePodcast Episode - Working with the Stages ModelArticle - Leverage Points: Places to Intervene in a System by MeadowsArticle - Transactional and Transformational Leadership: A Constructive/Developmental Analysis by Kuhnert and LewisFilm - SeveranceMusic - Kind of Blue by Miles DavisArticle - Masters of Love by SmithMore About Series Co-Host, Dr. Jonathan ReamsJonathan's WebsiteBook: Maturing Leadership: How Adult Development Impacts LeadershipArticle: A Brief Overview of Developmental TheoryAbout Scott J. Welcome to PsychEd, the psychiatry podcast for medical learners, by medical learners. In this episode, we present a broad overview of antisocial personality disorder and psychopathy with our guest expert - Dr. Donald Lynam. Dr. Lynam is a clinical psychologist by training, and professor at Purdue university, where he heads the Purdue's Developmental Psychopathology, Psychopathy and Personality Lab. While there may be some disagreement in the field, Dr. Lynam and I discuss how ASPD and psychopathy are two diagnostic constructs that are attempting to outline the same psychopathology, with the main difference being the degree of severity - for this reason, we use the terms antisocial and psychopathic interchangeably. While not necessary, it may be of benefit for listeners to familiarize themselves with the DSM-V criteria for antisocial personality disorder, the psychopathy checklist (PCL), as well as the 5-factor model of personality. References for each are listed below in the references section, however, for a brief overview, one could do a quick google image search for each term (Wikipedia also has a succinct overview of the psychopathy checklist). The learning objectives for this episode are as follows: Develop a basic understanding of what is meant by antisocial personality and psychopathy Be aware of some of the classic traits and characteristics of antisocial/psychopathic personalities, and the general functions of these behaviors Describe the theoretical basis for the development of antisocial personalities Guest Expert: Dr. Donald Lynam - Clinical psychologist, Investigator at Purdue University, Indiana Produced and hosted by: Dr. Chase Thompson (PGY5 in Psychiatry) Episode guidance and feedback: Dr. Gaurav Sharma (PGY4 in Psychiatry) Interview Content: 0:50 - Learning objectives 1:40 - Dr. Lynam discusses his path to his current research interests 3:40 - Defining the terms antisocial personality disorder, sociopathy, psychopathy 8:30 - Discussing the possibility of antisocial behaviors without an antisocial personality 12:07 - Laying out the core features of antisocial individuals 18:20 - Antisocial personality from the perspective of the Big 5 personality model 22:00 - Discussion of the high-functioning psychopathy 25:06 - Prevalence of psychopathy 30:10 - Factors relevant to the development of psychopathy 39:30 - Prognosis and clinical trajectory 44:30 - Comorbid psychopathology 46:30 - Functions of antagonism or antisocial behaviours 49:30 - Treatment References American Psychiatric Association. The Merriam-Webster dictionary defines compassion as “a sympathetic consciousness of others' distress together with a desire to alleviate it." In other words, compassion is about recognizing that someone is suffering and trying to help them. We all have our own definition of compassion and we all know what it means to us as individuals, but it is abundantly clear based on our chat with today's podcast guest: compassion is needed now. Compassion is especially important to those that work in healthcare. In this week's newest episode of the Healthcare Experience Matters Podcast, Kathleen Lynam, RN, MPA, joins us to chat all things compassion. Kathleen is an Executive Coach and Senior Advisor with the Healthcare Experience Foundation (HXF). She brings decades of nursing leadership experience to the conversation. Join host Lee-Sean Huang for Design Future Live, an interview show about how the design industry is changing as a discipline and opportunities this creates for the design community. In this episode, we will be talking with Ian Lynam about his book, The Impossibility of Silence: Writing for Designers, Artists & Photographers. This interview was originally livestreamed on Wednesday, March 9, 2022. Use code AIGAMEMBER25 for 25% off: https://www.artbook.com/9789493148390.html From the publisher of The Impossibility of Silence: Despite the seemingly common expectation that art should be able to speak for itself, creators are often asked to explain the process behind their work, their experiences in their vocation, and, perhaps most dauntingly, the meaning conveyed by any particular piece. Drawing upon his own unique career trajectory across multiple fields as a writer, designer and teacher, Tokyo-based artist Ian Lynam offers readers a variety of approaches to writing about creative fields.Called “the Hunter S. Thompson of design writing,” Lynam uses his industry knowledge and sharp sense of humor to convey his philosophy on writing specifically in a professional creative setting. This volume is not so much a straightforward how-to guide on how to write an artist's statement as it is an honest meditation on how difficult—and how important—it is for creators to have the facilities to articulate the ethos behind their own work. Lynam encourages readers to think of the blank page as another sort of canvas, a space of potential, a landscape on which an artist may explore themselves and their work farther than they thought possible. Lynam provides both inspirational text as a jumping-off point for readers as well as concrete techniques in terms of craft. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/aigadesign/message
