Plenty of rugby league to cover, not just on the field but off it as well! Friday night's games couldn't have gone more against the script, as per usual. Dark days for Carlton after losing to group of kids, let's stop talking about how bad they are and focus on Richmond and how good they were! Sammy Lalor might have had some extra dm's after his sword said hello to the world out the bottom of his strides. Big boxing cards this weekend with Kambosos and Nicolson fighting in the home land. The players championship ended up in a playoff and the infamous 17th at Sawgrass struck again. Heaps of laughs and plenty of sports covered hence the length of episode! Lindy Li, a well-known fundraiser who raised money for the Democrats' 2024 presidential campaign, left the party after her criticism of presidential nominee Vice President Kamala Harris. During a recent interview on Piers Morgan Uncensored, she admitted to who she voted for during the election despite being affiliated with the DNC. DNC chair Jamie Harrison posted this in response to Lindy's interview. ".@lindyli this is sad. You really need to stop lying and get some help. When I got out of the car at the Kamala Harris election night party at the Conrad- you were the very first person I saw. (I'll check with the film crew because maybe we even have video.) Nonetheless, you were perched by the door ready to take pictures with any celebrity type or elected official that walked in. Like a student trying to impress a professor, you joyfully rattled off how much you raised this cycle to support the campaign. You told me about hosting a fundraiser at your home and your unwavering support of Joe Biden and Kamala Harris. So either you were lying then or you are lying now, but either way it just makes you out to be a liar. A very bad liar. Who in their right mind raises money for someone, travels to that candidate's election night party (in DC and not your home state of PA), but yet is so "disgusted" by that candidate you don't vote for them? @PiersUncensored @piersmorgan y'all are being hoodwinked. #CarryOnJoinSee omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Turncoats, opportunists … or just idealists whose bosses lost their way?  Defecting to a new party is one of the momentous decisions an MP could ever make. Years of loyalties, backroom deals and deep friendships are lost in an instant. Patrick Baker speaks to MPs who have wrestled with the decision to switch party, to discover what it is really like.  Shaun Woodward, who left William Hague's Conservative party to join Blair's New Labour in 1999, recalls the dirty tricks used try to prevent his defection and how the move precipitated a huge media storm. Former Ipswich MP Dan Poulter, who defected from the Tories to Labour last April, explains how he lost faith in the Conservatives (just before an election) and solicited advice from those on the other side of the aisle, including veteran MP Jon Cruddas. Helen Pidd, host of The Guardian's Today in Focus podcast, was given special access to defector Christian Wakeford in Parliament, and witnessed first-hand the reaction from Tory MPs furious at his perceived betrayal after the Bury South MP crossed the floor to join Labour. Brexit stalwart Douglas Carswell recounts his decision to join UKIP, which helped to pave the way for the EU referendum — while David Cameron's former communications chief Craig Oliver sets out his strategy for spinning a subordination in the ranks. And Libby Wiener, who spent twenty years as a political correspondent for ITV News, looks back at the Westminster drama of multiple defections. She explains how these rare events are becoming more common, in an era where voters' own party allegiances are less secure. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

Today, they give out their prestigious choices for Person of the Year, Loser of the Year, and Turncoat of the Year. On Person of the Year, they both choose Donald Trump. Jim says the choice is so obvious that he spends his time focusing on the astounding year that his runner-up (and a close Trump ally) had in 2024. Meanwhile, Greg chronicles the staggering comeback Trump has achieved over the past year and really the past four years. For Loser of the Year, Jim chooses the man whose stock plummeted the most in the past 12 months and he says there is a runaway winner. Meanwhile, Greg picks a group of people whose awkward efforts to engineer the outcome of the 2024 campaign imploded in spectacular fashion. For Turncoat of the Year, Jim chooses a figure who used to align with the left and not only flipped to supporting the Trump-Vance ticket but embodies a demographic that supported Trump in huge numbers this year. Greg offers a whole list of conservatives who actually endorsed and even campaigned for Kamala Harris. But he has another choice that may be our favorite turncoat ever.

It's media day in our year-end 3 Martini Lunch awards and Jim and Greg have plenty to say about how things were covered - if they were covered at all. Specifically, they look at the stories the mainstream media covered far too much, the ones they conveniently ignored because they didn't fit their narrative, and they highlight what they saw as the best stories of 2024.First, they dig into the most overreported stories of the year, with Jim choosing a massive, relentless political snow job from the mainstream media. Greg agrees with Jim but also notes how the media fawned over a piece of legislation which was little more than an attempt to change the narrative about Biden's legacy. Oh, and there was one overreported story that Jim and Greg were guilty of as well. But it was also a lot of fun! Then it's on to the stories the media didn't cover much or didn't want to cover. Jim points to media apathy concerning stories about a prominent Democrat and how the media would have had huge coverage of them if it were a Republican. Greg picks a heinous act committed by one of our enemies that the media buried as quickly as possible. Finally, they reveal their selections for best stories of the year. Jim goes with a series of encouraging events over the past several weeks. Greg focuses on the media itself and how this year and how the media should have learned a big lesson. But are they paying attention?Make sure to listen on Tuesday as Greg and Jim unveil their selections for Person of the Year, Loser of the Year, and Turncoat of the Year.

Today, Jim and Greg begin handing out their prestigious annual 3 Martini Lunch Awards! Starting today and running through New Year's Day, they reveal their choices in categories ranging from rising star to best and worst political ideas to the stories the media ignored and the ones they could not stop talking about. And it all builds up to next week when Jim and Greg reveal their Person of the Year and Turncoat of the Year, plus their predictions for 2025.In this first installment, they offer their individual selections for Most Overrated Political Figure, Most Underrated Political Figure, and Most Honest Political Figure. Jim picks a prominent figure in this year's presidential campaign, while Greg selects someone whose reputation for winning took one on the chin this year. When it comes to underrated political figures, they agree on their top choice, but Greg also highlights a prominent political leader who doesn't often attract a lot of headlines...and that's a good thing. However, last week's drama has Greg already regretting this choice. Finally, Jim's choice for the most honest political figure is a famous Democrat who was ignored by the party this year, while Greg picks a very different person the Democrats should have listened to but didn't - to their own peril.Don't miss Tuesday's special edition, when Jim and Greg list the political figures they were sorry to see pass away in 2024. They'll also name their rising stars over the past year and people who seem to be fading into political oblivion.

Join Jim and Greg on 3 Martini Lunch as they discuss the potential reversal of one of the U.S. Supreme Court's worst decisions, the significant increase in U.S. troops in Syria, and the surprising comeback of disgraced politician Anthony Weiner.First , they highlight the Supreme Court's possible reconsideration of its 2005 eminent domain ruling. They analyze why this decision needs to be overturned, considering its negative impact on property rights and legal precedents.First, they're glad to hear that the U.S. Supreme Court is considering whether to hear a case that could allow the court to reverse its awful 2005 eminent domain ruling. Jim and Greg review just how bad the original decision was and Jim explains that sometimes the court needs to overturn lousy precedents. Next, they cover the Pentagon's recent announcement that U.S. troop numbers in Syria have surged to 2,000. The previously announced number was 900 personnel. Jim considers why the Defense Department is admitting this now and they're hopeful that U.S. won't get further involved in the ongoing unstability in Syria. Finally, they react to reports that disgraced former Rep. Anthony Weiner is considering a 2025 run for New York City Council. Weiner's political career was derailed twice after he was caught sending lewd photos of himself to othet women. He was also send to prison for illicit online contact with a 15-year-old girl. Surely, New York City has better options than him, right?Starting next week, be sure to hear the year-end 3 Martini Lunch Awards. TURNCOAT, 28min., South Korea Directed by Jason Montgomery A shrewd merciless crime boss must investigate the scene of his brother's assassination for answers, revenge, and to avoid the same fate. https://www.facebook.com/turncoattheshortfilm https://www.instagram.com/turncoattheshortfilm/ Get to know the filmmaker: What motivated you to make this film? I had spent the last several years living in South Korea; teaching English and writing screenplays. I got the itch to actually shoot something and direct it, as it had been way too long. Even though I didn't have much of a network, few resources, and little money, I decided to use what I had and make something. My ex-teaching colleague and neighbor Maurice (Rob in the film) had left our teaching academy to pursue acting, and over some drinks in the local bar the film was shot in, we got the idea for me to write and direct something with him as the lead. What were your initial reactions when watching the audience talking about your film in the feedback video? It was kind of surreal. I've seen, heard, and given reactions like that many times, but to see people I've never met giving such deep and intelligent consideration to my film was amazing. Max Pearson presents a collection of this week's Witness History episodes from the BBC World Service all about figures branded as traitors. In 1939 Wang Jingwei, once a national hero in China, signed an agreement with Japanese invaders which made his name synonymous with the word ‘Hanjian', a traitor to China. But Pan Chia-sheng's memories of living under Wang Jingwei's government in Nanjing tell a very different story. Our guest Ian Crofton, author of Traitors and Turncoats, explains the nuances involved in our historic understanding of traitors. Also, the fascist Norwegian politician Vidkun Quisling blamed for convincing the German dictator Adolf Hitler to invade Norway in 1940. Norwegian journalist Trude Lorentzen explains the story with an account she recorded from Quisling's Jewish neighbour, Leif Grusd. And, the story of the former Broadway showgirl, known as Axis Sally, who broadcast antisemitic Nazi propaganda on German State Radio during World War Two, told through the archives.Plus, the Polish colonel, Ryszard Kuklinski, code-named 'Jack Strong', who passed Soviet military secrets to the CIA that changed the tide of the Cold War.And, the Hungarian Sándor Szűcs, famous for playing in the country's star football team, who was executed in 1951 for trying to defect from the communist regime.Contributors: Pan Chia-sheng - on Wang Jingwei Ian Crofton - author of Traitors and Turncoats Trude Lorentzen - Norwegian journalist on Vidkun Quisling Aris Papas - one of the agents who received intelligence from Ryszard KuklinskiErzsi Kovács' story is told using an archive interview he gave in 2011 to Hungarian journalist Endre Kadarkai on the Arckép programme, on Zuglo TV.(Photo: Mildred Gillars, known as 'Axis Sally', on trial for treason in 1949. It's media day in our year-end Three Martini Lunch awards and Jim and Greg have plenty to say about how things were covered - if they were covered at all. Specifically, they look at the stories the mainstream media covered far too much, the ones they conveniently ignored because they didn't fit their narrative, and they highlight what they saw as the best stories of 2023.First, they dig into the most overreported stories of the year, with Jim choosing a specific angle of a story he thought was given far too much attention and Greg going with the non-stop chattering about a completely pointless topic. Then it's on to the stories the media didn't cover much or didn't want to cover. Jim points to media apathy concerning what may well be the greatest threat to American national security. Greg picks a horrifying tragedy that the media quickly stopped caring about when it reflected poorly on the left. Finally, they reveal their selections for best stories of the year. Jim goes with a bright spot in an otherwise bleak story he covered closely this year. Greg opts for a member of Congress going above and beyond in a crisis - again.Make sure to listen on Friday as Greg and Jim unveil their selections for Person of the Year and Turncoat of the Year. Plus, their predictions for 2024.Thanks for listening to the 3 Martini Lunch!

The Soviet Union is toast, Chechnya is at war and Grozny, its embattled capital, is being bombed to dust. Gangs of Chechen criminals are getting rich off the bloodshed, capitalizing on gun- and drug-running networks that flourished under Communism. When the war ends a new breed of Chechen mobster-terrorist emerges, empowered by Arab Jihad and financed by goons who've grown fat on the patronage of oligarchs. After a brutal period of rocket strikes, school sieges and plane hijackings, Chechnya enters a new, stable—but semi-feudal—stage, led by a family of boxers and religious zealots: the Kadyrovs. Learn more about your ad choices.
