fWotD Episode 2897: Abyssinia, Henry Welcome to Featured Wiki of the Day, your daily dose of knowledge from Wikipedia’s finest articles. The featured article for Thursday, 10 April 2025 is Abyssinia, Henry."Abyssinia, Henry" is the 72nd episode of the American television series M*A*S*H and the final episode of its third season. Written by Everett Greenbaum and Jim Fritzell, it first aired on March 18, 1975. The episode is notable for its shocking ending, in which the 4077th Mobile Army Surgical Hospital's amiable commanding officer, Lieutenant Colonel Henry Blake (played by McLean Stevenson), receives an honorable discharge and leaves for home but, in the final scene, is reported to be killed by enemy fire. This ending prompted more than 1,000 letters to series producers Gene Reynolds and Larry Gelbart, and drew fire from both CBS and 20th Century Fox.The title of the episode refers to the 1920s–1930s slang use of "Abyssinia" for "goodbye". ("Abyssinia", pronounced , can be understood as "I'll be seeing you".)After the production of this episode, both Stevenson and Wayne Rogers, who played Captain Trapper John McIntyre, left the series to pursue other interests. While Stevenson's departure was announced prior to and written into "Abyssinia, Henry", Rogers unexpectedly left the series during the break between seasons, and so his character's departure takes place off-screen in the following episode, "Welcome to Korea", the first of the show's fourth season. These combined departures and their subsequent cast replacements also signaled the beginning of a shift in focus for the series as a whole, more centered on the character Hawkeye Pierce played by Alan Alda, and with stories and tone increasingly from the dramatic side of comedy drama. This recording reflects the Wikipedia text as of 01:37 UTC on Thursday, 10 April 2025.For the full current version of the article, see Abyssinia, Henry on Wikipedia. This podcast uses content from Wikipedia under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike License.Visit our archives at wikioftheday.com and subscribe to stay updated on new episodes.Follow us on Mastodon at @wikioftheday@masto.ai.Also check out Curmudgeon's Corner, a current events podcast.Until next time, I'm standard Nicole.

In the 1970s, Gregory Harrison went east to Hollywood. The son of Catalina Island's glass bottom boat captain, Gregory began dreaming of a career in acting when a Doris Day movie was filmed on and named after his father's Glass Bottom Boat. Now 120 IMDB credits into his career, Gregory joins us for a debriefing. After serving as an Army medic during the Viet Nam War, Gregory's guest star appearance on MASH in 1976 foreshadowed his earning the role of Gonzo Gates on Trapper John MD in 1979, which was around the time Trapper began to look more like Pernell Roberts than Wayne Rogers. Gregory starred in the TV version of Logan's Run, a role that required a lot of running, which trained him for an appearance on Battle of the Network Stars where he met his future wife, Randi Oaks (competing for a rival network.) He's most proud of his role in Centennial, the epic mini-series based on the James Michener novel. A TV event so beloved that fan gatherings are held today where enthusiasts can tour the original sets!Gregory just completed a three and a half year run on General Hospital, his first soap, on which he got to guest star with his daughter, Lily Anne Harrison. Hallmark fans know him as Joe O'Toole on the Signed, Sealed and Delivered movie series. And a fun fact is that the 8x10 glossy that Gregory is most often asked to sign is a shirtless pose from the TV movie, For Ladies Only, in which a struggling actor makes ends meet by stripping. Who, amongst us with a rock hard body doesn't relate? Also joining us is journalist and former White House correspondent Brian Karen. Brian is directing a documentary titled Trump: The First 100 Days. (It's a horror movie.) Written by Reed LochamyPlayed by Andrew Gelderman and Wayne RogersFor most rounds, there are three questions, and you rank your answers, assigning point values of 5, 3, and 1 each round, depending on your level of confidence. The one you feel best about is your 5-point answer, the one you're just guessing on is your 1-point answer. (For any rounds where the points don't work this way, we'll discuss that during the game.)If you feel certain that you know the answer to all three questions in a typical round, then instead of assigning points of 5, 3 and 1, you can go for 11 points. If you do that and you answer all three questions correctly, you get 11 points (instead of 9). However, if you do that and you miss just one question, you get a 0 for the round. The bonus round question has five possible answers. You get 3 points for every correct answer you submit. Like with going for 11 in typical rounds, though, you can choose to go for 20 in the bonus round (but doing so is risky in the same way that going for 11 in typical rounds is).Have questions about the game or how it works? Please feel free to email those to will@bhammountainradio.com

Compliance, maturity levels, edge computing Some people think the television phrase, “Set it and forget it” applies to Zero Trust. Today's discussion throws that notion out the window. The interview takes a deep dive into how an agency can move to a Zero Trust Architecture. Three experts discuss compliance, maturity levels, and the role of edge computing. The conclusion is obvious: Zero Trust is a serious, constantly evolving methodology and federal leaders must take advantage of every resource possible to gain a thorough understanding of the process. Jennifer Franks from the GAO points out that Zero Trust is not a new concept and the federal government has all kinds of reference materials to support leaders. She lists information from DISA, NIST, the DoD as well as the OMB. She reminds listeners that there is a maturity model associated with Zero Trust change -- and leaders must be aware of revisions to these documents. Jennifer reminds the audience of the recent upgrade to the DISA model that adds more maturity levels. Guidance is nice, but where to start? During the interview, Wayne Rogers talks about looking at your respective agency's situation and doing a gap analysis. Once that is complete, then one can set priorities. For example, when he used this process, his agency identified a weakness in their VPN system. He prototyped a transition to Secure Access Service Edge and then deployed it across the agency. Probably the best quote from this interview was provided by Akamai's Tony Lauro. He said, “Security has to work despite users.” He is referring to the base concept behind Zero Trust – an automated system that can identify threats and provision resources with appropriate access levels that can have nothing to do with end users acting themselves. Ron Popeil's catchphrase may work on television, but not in today's federal government. Northeast Maglev has a vision for bringing fast--really, really fast--rail service to the Northeast Corridor (Boston to Washington D.C.). This week Paul talks with Wayne Rogers, Chairman and CEO of the Baltimore Washington Rapid Rail, LLC, and Northeast Maglev, LLC, about his vision for what maglev trains could do for the region. Faster than steel wheel-based trains, maglev trains use superconducting magnets to propel trains along at up to 311 miles an hour. Already running in Japan, where the service is wildly successful, bringing this level of train service would mean being able to get from New York City to Washington D.C. in an hour. Many of the trips people take today by car or plane could be eliminated if the Northeast Corridor gets maglev up and running. Maglev would reduce congestion, pollution, and pressure on the highway system as the region grows. The U.S. has been looking at maglev rail for decades and Northeast Maglev started working on this project ten years ago. The environmental reviews are almost complete and they are looking to get the project up and running soon. In the episode, you'll hear about the project, the technology, and what we've learned from the successful maglev train in Japan. Next week on Transit Unplugged News and Views, we'll have Jen Shepard, GM of Uber Transit on the show talking about microtransit and paratransit options. From 1959 “Odds Against Tomorrow” is a taut and foreboding film about a bank robbery, racial hatred and human weakness that many people think is also an allegory for the cold war tension at that time between the U.S. and U.S.S.R. Director Robert Wise selected early spring of March 1959 and creative cinematography using black and white film to successfully capture a cold, bleak feel of impending doom. This is film noir at a high level.Burke played by Ed Begley is the ruined, former police officer who uses every means available to get Harry Belafonte as Ingram the debt ridden and angry musician and Robert Ryan as Slater the embittered and racist ex-convict to join together for a bank heist in a small town two hours north of New York City. Burke has spent considerable time planning the perfect robbery that doesn’t follow his plan.Included in the excellent cast are Shelly Winters as Lorry, Will Kuluva as Bacco, Gloria Grahame as Helen, Kim Hamilton as Ruth and an unnamed soldier played by Wayne Rogers. All of the cast members deliver excellent and believable performances that add to the films realism. Another outstanding movie from Robert Wise and one that we highly recommend. Here's the IMDB page for "Odds Against Tomorrow"The film is available for free on YouTube (at least as of this posting). Here's an excellent interview with Harry Belafonte regarding this movie.Part 1Part 2Part 3Part 4Part 5Up next, we’re reviewing the beloved “Sounder” from 1972. In 2002 the FBI made 89 arrests as part of a child pornography investigation known as "Operation Candyman." Among the people who found themselves on the wrong end of this inquest was Jack Wayne Rogers. When his home and business were raided, authorities found much more than they had expected. In addition to thousands of explicit photographs of children, they found evidence that Rogers had removed and eaten the genitals of several men and trans women who believed Rogers to be a cost-effective alternative to a licensed surgeon. They also uncovered an online conversation in which Rogers, using the handle "Buggerbutt", related that he had tortured and murdered a young Skidmore Missouri man. The victim described by Rogers was almost certainly a young man named Branson Perry who had mysteriously disappeared a year prior to Rogers' arrest. Rogers also claimed that this young man was not his first victim. Is Jack Wayne Rogers a serial killer? Or, does this man with a love for child pornography and severed genitals just have a morbid and overly active imagination. This is what we will discuss on episode 19 of Where is the Line?

Topics range from miniature/modeling companies, paint brushes, paints, airbrushes, kitbashing, conversions, tools of the trade, conventions, kickstarters, reviews, advice, with a whole bunch of dirty humor and language. This is not a game play podcast, we rarely talk about that. This is about the art behind the games we play! MASH! We discuss the novel, movie and beloved and acclaimed TV series. Richard Hooker's novel 'MASH, A Novel About Three Army Doctors' started a dynasty that was continued in film by Robert Altman in the film MASH in 1970 starring Elliott Gould, Donald Sutherland, Sally Kellerman, Robert Duvall, Roger Bowen, Gary Burghoff and more. Due to the popularity of the 11 years of the TV series M*A*S*H, the names Benjamin Franklin Hawkeye Pierce, Trapper John, Henry Blake, Radar O'Reilly, Hot Lips Houlihan, Frank Burns and more are now household names thanks to Alan Alda, Wayne Rogers, McLean Stevenson, Larry Linville, Harry Morgan, Jamie Farr, Loretta Swit, Mike Farrell, David Ogden Stiers, Allan Arbus and many others. We discuss our favorite moments and why we love the show so much. Also an epic mailbag of randomness.
