Talking to the people that are impacted the most by the food system to learn more about what their needs are, what they would want out of a food system, is really important because they're the main stakeholders.”Jessica Jones: “It's also making sure that people have access not only to health promoting foods, but also culturally relevant foods. Because so often people want to come into communities and say, you should be doing this, or, these are the foods that are helpful. And it's like one list. On this week's episode of The Diet Obsessed Podcast, we review a recent episode of Food Heaven, with guest Ragen Chastain!Ragen is a speaker, writer, researcher, athlete, thought leader, certified health coach and fat activist, who educates the public on fatphobia.  In this show, she shares important information about the healthcare inequities fat people face, due to provider discrimination.  Weight is often blamed as the root cause for many conditions, which leads to misdiagnosis and fat people not wanting to visit the doctor, in an effort to avoid these unfair challenges.Ragen breaks it all down with RD's Jessica Jones and Wendy Lopez.  If you like the sound of this topic, you will love this episode!  Download the Diet Obsessed Podcast and don't forget to rate, review and subscribe!  PS: Follow me on Instagram @thedietobsessedpodcast

In full transparency, this was the podcast I taped a few months back, right after I almost quit before I had even uploaded the first episode.  What made me almost quit?  FEAR.  Fear of failure, fear of rejection, fear of saying the wrong thing, fear of perpetuating diet culture, fear of perpetuating fat phobia...etc.  I ended up pushing past that fear and moving forward with starting this podcast, because at the end of the day, stepping outside of your comfort zone is where the magic happens.  Ultimately, I may say the wrong thing at times, but hopefully people can understand my intent is always good and I am truly passionate about this topic, which is why I began this podcasting journey in the first place.  Now that it's the New Year, I am even more determined to keep putting one foot in front of the other and consistently put out content that I am personally interested in.This podcast is a review of the Dear Media Studio show "Food Heaven" which features hosts Jessica Jones and Wendy Lopez, who are also Registered Dieticians.  In this episode they discuss the Racial Origins of Fat Phobia w/ author Sabrina Strings, which was a fascinating conversation.   I intertwine a review of The Taylor Strecker Show when she had co-host Mackenzie Green on and Mackenzie further illuminated this topic in very important ways.  If you are interested in the intersection of racism, diet culture and fat phobia, you will love this episode.  Tune in and enjoy!

Robert’s loved ones also frequently make hurtful comments about his body size. He wants to know: Is weight loss the best or only option for him? To find out, Carolyn consults with Wendy Lopez and Jessica Jones, registered dietitians, SELF columnists, and hosts of the podcast Food Heaven. Wendy and Jess explain why focusing on weight loss can often do more harm than good. They also discuss alternative approaches such as intuitive eating and health at every size (HAES), as well as tips for navigating fatphobia from healthcare providers and loved ones.
