Talking to the people that are impacted the most by the food system to learn more about what their needs are, what they would want out of a food system, is really important because they're the main stakeholders.”Jessica Jones: “It's also making sure that people have access not only to health promoting foods, but also culturally relevant foods. Because so often people want to come into communities and say, you should be doing this, or, these are the foods that are helpful. And it's like one list. In full transparency, this was the podcast I taped a few months back, right after I almost quit before I had even uploaded the first episode.  What made me almost quit?  FEAR.  Fear of failure, fear of rejection, fear of saying the wrong thing, fear of perpetuating diet culture, fear of perpetuating fat phobia...etc.  I ended up pushing past that fear and moving forward with starting this podcast, because at the end of the day, stepping outside of your comfort zone is where the magic happens.  Ultimately, I may say the wrong thing at times, but hopefully people can understand my intent is always good and I am truly passionate about this topic, which is why I began this podcasting journey in the first place.  Now that it's the New Year, I am even more determined to keep putting one foot in front of the other and consistently put out content that I am personally interested in.This podcast is a review of the Dear Media Studio show "Food Heaven" which features hosts Jessica Jones and Wendy Lopez, who are also Registered Dieticians.  In this episode they discuss the Racial Origins of Fat Phobia w/ author Sabrina Strings, which was a fascinating conversation.   I intertwine a review of The Taylor Strecker Show when she had co-host Mackenzie Green on and Mackenzie further illuminated this topic in very important ways.  If you are interested in the intersection of racism, diet culture and fat phobia, you will love this episode.  Tune in and enjoy!

He remembers his mother's obsession with a place called Lum's, and the family trips to the local Hanover Trail Steak House. He explains why he's not a big fan of steak, having spent time in Bennigan's, Ponderosa and Bonanza "steak" houses growing up. He talks about his love for salad bars and diners, and remembers discovering Mexican restaurants like Chi Chi's, South of the Border, and Chevy's. He also recognizes that a place like Chi Chi's is to Mexican food what Red Lobster is to seafood. He also talks about his favorite things from "the big three": Wendy's, Burger King and McDonalds, and he shares the ear-worm he grew up with, thanks to McDonalds: two all beef patties, special sauce, lettuce, cheese, pickles, onions, on a sesame seed bun.

This month’s episode is a special one. Why? Well, today marks our 6 year Food Heaven Anniversary!! We can’t believe it’s already been 6 years! Aside from our anniversary, this month is also extra special since Jess and I are June babies, and actually have our birthdays 1 day apart (June 29th & 30th!) It’s pretty surreal that 6 years have passed since we started Food Heaven, and so we thought it would be great to have this month’s episode be about lessons learned since starting our brand. We’ll be sharing the ups and downs we’ve experienced, and how all this stuff has been helpful in our growth and development. Check out the full post here:
