Monkey hunters accidentally shoot tranquilizer into woman who reported rogue ape They missed the target by a few million years of evolution. A monkey hunting mission backfired spectacularly after a bumbling gunman accidentally shot a woman with a tranquilizer dart — knocking her out for an hour. The comedy of errors was set in motion after reports surfaced of a Japanese macaque — also known as a snow monkey — lurking near Fujikawa Station in Fuji City, Shizuoka Prefecture, SoraNews24 reported. In response, the city hall dispatched three municipal employees and one simian-hunting specialist equipped with tranquilizer rifles to apprehend the rogue ape. Unfortunately, their monkey hunting mission turned catastrophic after one of the gunmen accidentally shot a woman they were interviewing about the fugitive primate. Reports state that the hunters were taping their rifles to avoid air escaping, whereupon one of the bozos accidentally discharged their weapon. As a result, the hapless woman was struck in the arm with a dart — which was reportedly packed with enough sedative to subdue a 33-pound money — putting her out like a light. Following the ludicrous misfire, the victim was rushed to the hospital, where she awoke an hour later, Sora reported. However, it took another full hour before the patient was lucid enough to speak coherently. The Fuji government has since apologized to the woman and has pledged an investigation and policy review to avoid another such disaster. Unfortunately — albeit perhaps unsurprisingly — the problem macaque remains at large. Philly EMT Kevin Pressley charged with exposing and photographing ‘semi-conscious' woman's breasts Pennsylvania police announced on Monday that an EMT is facing charges after allegedly exposing a “semi-conscious” woman under his care in the back of an ambulance and snapping photos of her breasts. Kevin Hakeem Pressley, 24, of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, was taken into custody on Saturday and is charged with indecent assault, invasion of privacy and related charges. The Brookhaven Borough Police Department said it initiated an investigation Friday into an alleged assault that occurred the day prior. The victim reported that she was being treated at a medical facility in Brookhaven when she became “semi-conscious.” An ambulance arrived, and during transport, Pressley — while caring for the victim in the back of the ambulance — reportedly exposed the woman's breasts and took photos of her while she was in a “semi-conscious state.” Pressley was employed as an EMT by the Brookhavan Fire Company Ambulance at the time of the alleged incident. He has since been arraigned, and his bail is set at $100,000 cash. Indian teen dies after being set on fire by alleged stalker she rejected A teenage girl in India has died after she was set on fire by an alleged stalker — who became irate when she rejected his marriage proposal. Ankita Singh, 19, was asleep in her bed near an open window around 4 a.m. August 23 when a man doused her body in gasoline and tossed a lit match, the BBC Hindi reported. Singh was rushed to the hospital with severe burns but died Sunday as a result of the heinous attack. Before she died from her injuries, Singh identified the man as Shahrukh Hussain, telling authorities he had been following her and harassing her, the outlet said. The teen described how Hussain called her about 8 p.m. the night before and “told me that he would kill me if I did not talk to him.” “I informed my father about the threat after which he assured me that he would talk to the man's family on Tuesday,” she told cops, according to the Mirror. She then described waking up to “a sensation of pain on my back” and “could smell something burning.” “I found [Hussain] running away when I opened my eyes,” she told authorities. Two videos of Singh in the hospital have since gone viral online, causing uproar in India. She suffered burns to 45% of her body. The teen's father, Sanjeev Singh, confirmed that Hussain lived in their neighborhood. He said the man's unwanted attention sometimes forced his daughter to miss school. “Shahrukh used to tell her— ‘Marry me, accept Islam, else I will make your life hell,' ” he told Swarajya magazine. “He kept on forcing my daughter to marry and convert for months. He was a one-sided lover, a stalker.” Police arrested Hussain and an accomplice last week. Both men are reportedly facing murder charges. Singh's death sparked outrage across Hindu-majority Jharkhand. Amber Lakra, the police superintendent of Dumka, told the BBC that while the crime is not considered religious in nature, “[police] are being especially vigilant as the boy and girl belong to different religions.” In the days following Singh's death, several politicians took to social media to express their disgust at Hussain's actions. “After the crafty meted out to Ankita, her death has made every Indian bow their heads in shame,” Rahul Gandhi, a leader in the Indian National Congress and prominent advocate for women's rights, tweeted Tuesday. “Today there is a dire need to create a safe environment for women in the country.” Mithilesh Kumar Thakur, a politician in Jharkhand, urged the public not to assign undue blame to the killer's religion. “The criminal has neither any caste nor any religion,” he tweeted Monday. “He is cruel, unrighteous, impure and inferior. The killer of daughter Ankita should be near the noose soon … Our government will make all such legal efforts.” Wild moment kidnapping suspect tries to stab cop with pen in interrogation room Frightening video shows an Ohio man suspected of attempting to kidnap a child from a kindergarten lunging at an officer in the interrogation room and trying to stab him in the neck with a pen. Reid Duran, 35, was arrested last week after allegedly posing as a parent during an open house at Saint Brigid School in Xenia. The school's principal spotted Duran acting in an odd manner on the premises and called 911 to report a trespasser, telling the dispatcher that the intruder was “posing a threat,” reported the station WHIO. Officers who responded to the school questioned Duran in the parking lot. The man was said to have initially offered an array of explanations for his attending the open house but eventually admitted his plan to lure a young child with drug-laced candy, police said. Duran agreed to come down to the local police station for an interview and was sitting in an interrogation room when the pen attack occurred. Surveillance video from the room shows Duran sitting in a swivel chair, before suddenly grabbing a pen from the table in front of him and charging officer Nicholas Peters, “with the sharp end pointed at the neck and face area” of the cop, according to court documents. Peters is seen pushing the pen-wielding suspect to the floor and quickly gaining the upper hand during the ensuing struggle. “Put your hands behind your back now,” Peters orders Duran. “Are you f—ing kidding me right now?” Duran has been charged with attempted kidnapping, felonious assault and escape, reported Dayton247Now. According to police, Duran told detectives that he had plotted to abduct a 5-year-old girl from the school, after offering her Starburst candy coated with a tranquilizer, “to obtain sexual favors.” Duran also allegedly claimed that he preferred children younger than 13 years old and had child pornography on his computer, according to Fox 19. Xenia police said in a statement that no tranquilizers were detected on candy that was found in Duran's possession at the time of his arrest, and that the man did not offer sweets to anyone at the school. Duran is being held in the county jail without bond. Duran's family spoke to NBC News on Friday, claiming that the 35-year-old has been suffering from schizophrenia for several years, but that he has never been violent toward others. “He's very gentle and considerate to others,” Roy Duran said of his jailed younger brother. “The harm is always insular and against himself.” The man's mother, Melissa King, said that what she has seen in the interrogation room surveillance footage was unlike her son. “I think he began to feel scared and he's cornered,” she said. “I just know he's not in his right mind. He needs psychiatric help.” Ohio woman whose dad fatally shot ex-boyfriend says victim ‘changed' after split The Ohio woman whose ex-boyfriend was gunned down by her dad — a moment caught on chilling Ring doorbell footage — told cops the fatal victim was verbally abusive and “changed” after they broke up. James Rayl, 22, died from a gunshot wound to the back after attempting to force his way into the Sydney, Ohio, home of 52-year-old Mitchell Duckro on July 31, as seen in the viral video. A grand jury subsequently voted 8-1 against indicting Duckro for Rayl's killing, citing the state's “State Your Ground” laws. During a videotaped interview with police detectives after the shooting, first obtained by Daily Mail, Allyson Duckro explained that she and Rayl had previously been in a relationship but split up in 2019 because she said he was “just being a d—” and would tell her “everything that was wrong with me.” She added, “He would say that no one was going to love me anymore.” Following the couple's breakup, Allyson told the police that she blocked Rayl on social media. The 22-year-old woman said that at one point, Rayl had relocated to California, but when he returned to Ohio, “he was just different.” “His close friends … he just started treating like crap and nobody wanted to deal with it,” Allyson claimed. According to the woman, she and Rayl would take acid while they were dating, but she said she did not know if he was still using illicit drugs around the time of his death, because she had not been in contact with him. Allyson also recounted the events that immediately preceded the bloodshed. 00:16 She said that when she saw the glass on the front door break and the doorframe give way as Rayl was ramming it with his shoulder, she “freaked out and ran and hid.” “I didn't even see when [Mitchell Duckro] shot or anything, I just heard it,” the daughter recalled. “I literally hid most of the time. I screamed a bunch, and then I really started freaking out.” The night before the shooting, Rayl had left a voicemail for Allyson, which was released earlier this month by the man's sister, who has been leading a campaign demanding justice for her brother. “Hi Ally, it's James,” Rayl says softly on the recording. “I just wanted to reach out to you because I just wanted to see how you're doing, and maybe hear from you, if that would be all right, I guess. “It's been a while since I've talked to you and I don't know, I feel like, I don't know what I feel.” Allyson and her family claimed she was scared after hearing her ex-boyfriend's message. In a 911 audio recording from the day of the shooting, which has been obtained by WHIO-TV 7, Allyson is heard telling her father that Rayl is trying to break down the door. The Ring video shows the man standing on the Duckro family's front porch and repeatedly slamming his body against the door after being told by her father to go away. At one point, Mitchell Duckro warns the unwelcome guest that he is armed. “Dad, is he trying to kill me?” Allyson could be heard saying on the 911 call. After Duckro shoots at Rayl three times, leaving him for dead in a walkway outside the house, his daughter is heard telling him, “Dad, there's nothing you could have done. You saved my life,” according to the station. During an interview with the police after the fact, Allyson's mother, Stacie Duckro, tearfully said her daughter was “terrified” as she watched Rayl trying to break into their home. “He tried to get my daughter,” the mom argued. But she also spared a thought for the deceased man and his loved ones, saying, “I can't imagine what his parents are going through.” Rayl's family has reacted with outrage to the news that Duckro will not be held accountable for the shooting and launched a Facebook page demanding justice. “Mitch shot him in the back and killed him,” Rayl's sister Jessica Colbert wrote in a recent post. “I hope your days are more miserable than they've ever been. You're a disgusting excuse of a human being along with your daughter.”
Florida man arrested for trying to buy 8-year-old girl for $100,000 A Florida sex offender was arrested after he allegedly tried to “purchase” an 8-year-old girl for $100,000 at a grocery store, police said. Hellmuth Kolb, 85, approached the child's mom at a Winn Dixie in Port Orange Thursday and made the indecent proposal, according to the Port Orange Police Department. Kolb was on probation and was banned from having contact with children after trying to buy a different child in Walmart in 2018, according to WESH-TV. Lauren Benning told the station she thought Kolb was just a lonely old man when he approached her and her daughter. “He just came up and he started making comments about how pretty she was and how good her dancing was and how he could never have children and he wanted children,” Benning reportedly said. But the interaction soon took a dark turn, Benning told the station. “Approached me in the parking lot. Actually chased me down in the parking lot and said ‘hey, I want to make a deal with you.' I'd like to buy her for $100,000. I was in complete shock.” “He needs to be locked up and not allowed to be around our children,” she reportedly said. Florida man arrested for calling sex worker on his honeymoon A Florida man was arrested on his honeymoon after he answered an ad for a prostitute, according to a local report. Paul Turovsky, 34, left his new bride sleeping in their hotel room in Tampa and went out to meet a prostitute he had connected with online, authorities said. When the self-employed businessman arrived at the Hyatt Hotel, he was placed in handcuffs, caught up in a sting operation by local police to crackdown on sex trafficking. “The only question here was, as a wedding guest, was it too late to get the gifts that they gave returned back to them,” said Hillsborough County Sheriff Chad Chronister, adding that Turovsky was one of 176 men arrested in the sting operation. A Catholic charity hired a man to simulate a mass shooting at their building, complete with actors covered in blood. The drill ended with his arrest. A Nebraska man hired by a local charity to simulate a mass shooting has been charged with making terroristic threats. The Omaha World-Herald reported that John Channels was advised by Catholic Charities, an organization with branches across the US, to make the drill realistic — which he did, complete with paid actors covered in blood. Unfortunately, the simulation caused chaos among employees who thought the shooting was real. The news outlet reported that bloodied actors laid in hallways throughout the office building. One employee told the World-Herald she heard shots behind her and jumped off a retaining wall to try and hide in a dumpster. The incident, which occurred on May 19, 2022, began with Channels firing at a conference room window of the office building in which employees happened to be gathered, according to the news outlet. One elderly employee told police she thought she was going to die. "This is it," she told the World-Herald. Channels' lawyer, Erin Wetzel, told the publication that Catholic Charities requested the 27-year-old conduct the drill in that specific manner. "It's important to note that several of (the directors) went along with it, and while it was happening, they were not informing employees of what was going on, even as they were asking," Wetzel said. Omaha Catholic Charities' executive director, Denise Bartels, said in a statement that the group hired Channels "based upon recommendations from respected sources, and he clearly misrepresented himself and his qualifications." Channels' LinkedIn page states he's a police officer for the Offutt Air Force Base in Nebraska and that he's also the CEO of a security firm called Exousia Protection Agency. Neither organization responded to Insider's requests for comment. The Daily Beast reported law enforcement said they weren't alerted to the drill and responded as if it were an active crime scene. Don Kleine, the attorney for Douglas County told the news outlet that "police came, they didn't know this was happening. They thought it was a real active shooter. There were people calling 911." Local news station KMTV reported that Channels identified himself to police as an Offutt Civilian Police Officer. On Tuesday, Channels was arrested and charged with five counts of making terroristic threats and one weapons count, according to the World-Herald. This isn't Channels' only run-in with the law. In May, he was arrested and charged with three felonies which included first-degree sexual assault of a child, visual depiction of sexually explicit conduct of a child, and attempted intentional child abuse. It's unclear if the charity knew of his prior charges. Catholic Charities, Erin Wetzel, the Douglas County Attorney's Office, and the Omaha police department did not immediately respond to Insider's request for comment. Australian soccer club ‘extremely saddened' after players' public sex act video goes viral A Melbourne suburban football club has released a statement to say it is “extremely saddened” after senior players were filmed performing a public sex act during Mad Monday celebrations. Video of the act, which appears to have been performed in a public bar in front of teammates, has been spreading across the internet. The shocking video shows one player exposing his genitals before another man performs a sex act on him as cheering can be heard in the background of the video. The Glen Waverley Football Club has confirmed the players involved are members of the club's senior playing group and confirmed the video was taken this week during end-of-season celebrations that were not sanctioned by the club. The Herald Sun reports a patron also claims the players were also abusive to other people in the public establishment. The Glen Waverley Football and Netball Club released a letter to its members and wider community to state the players involved will be disciplined. “The committee has been made aware of an incident which has occurred during the post-season celebrations of some of our senior playing group,” the statement said. “While this occurred away from the club and was not a club-sanctioned event, we are extremely saddened and disappointed in the behavior shown by people who should know better. “The club is taking immediate action to address the serious breach of our culture and values that has occurred within this incident. “The individuals involved, along with the broader playing group will be both disciplined and educated and if need be, counseled in the type of conduct expected by members of our club, along with the physical and emotional impact this has had on the families involved, club members, players and the wider community,” the statement said. “There is no further comment at this time, and we request that the wellbeing of those be respected as they deal with the impact from the incident.” Two Air France pilots suspended over mid-flight fight in cockpit It was a case of fight or flight. Two Air France pilots have been suspended after they exchanged blows in the cockpit during a flight from Geneva to Paris in June, an airline official said Sunday. The plane had just taken off from the Swiss city when the pilot and co-pilot got into an argument that led to one of them throwing a punch and the two grabbing at each other's collars, Switzerland's La Tribune reported. The cabin crew was forced to intervene, and one member stayed in the cockpit to babysit the pair for the remainder of the approximately one hour and 15 minute flight to the French capital. The mid-air brawl didn't affect the rest of the flight, and the plane landed safely, according to an airline rep. A spokeswoman for the airline also called the behavior of the since-grounded pilots “totally inappropriate,” Bloomberg reported. Grandpa hits daughter's fiance who had pants down in front of 5-year-old, PA cops say The grandfather of a 5-year-old girl found his daughter's fiance with his pants down in front of the child, according to Pennsylvania authorities. The grandpa walked past a bedroom in the multifamily house and saw his granddaughter sitting on the lap of 22-year-old Aaron Cunagin, his daughter's fiance, on Aug. 24, according to court documents obtained by McClatchy News. He thought this “was weird, but did not think anything else” about it, an affidavit shows. A few minutes later, the grandfather began to think the bedroom was “too quiet” and went to look, the affidavit says. He walked in to find Cunagin in the corner of the bedroom with his pants down and genitals exposed in front of the 5-year-old girl who also had her pants down and genitals exposed, the documents say. The grandfather punched Cunagin, yelled and called the police, according to the affidavit. The Middletown Borough Police Department arrived at the apartment and arrested Cunagin, according to an Aug. 25 news release. Cunagin later told police that he felt “numb” during the incident and was “fighting himself whether or not to have sex with the victim,” according to the criminal complaint. The victim mentioned that there were five prior incidents, the affidavit shows, but Cunagin denied them. Mom chops off boyfriend's penis after he tried to rape her daughter A mother in India allegedly sliced off her boyfriend's penis on Wednesday after he tried to rape her 14-year-old daughter. “I have no regrets for what I did,” the 36-year-old unnamed mom told the Times of India. “I was working in the farm when the incident took place. Fortunately, I returned home in the nick of time and caught him red-handed,” she said, explaining the series of events that led to the incident. “He even attacked me while I was trying to save my daughter, so I brought a knife from the kitchen and chopped off his private parts to teach him a lesson.” Police told the Times of India that the boyfriend, 32, has been “booked” for rape, but was in critical condition after the mom chopped off his genitals. His exact charges and current condition are unknown. It is unclear if the mom will face any charges.
Nightclub bans ‘staring' without ‘verbal consent' in new ‘woke' policy The days of checking someone out at a club are over. An Australia nightclub said it will remove people who are caught staring at someone without that person's consent. Club 77 in Sydney included unwanted attention from strangers in its updated “zero-tolerance policy” on harassment. The venue posted the woke update on its Instagram account, saying the club is “not a place to come to if your sole purpose is to ‘pick up.' ” “As a nightclub, we encourage you to interact with strangers, however any engagement MUST begin with verbal consent,” the statement read. “This also applies if you are, for example, staring at someone from afar.” The club has hired designated “safety officers” — who will be wearing a pink hi-visibility vest — to handle complaints and concerns. “If we receive reports of any behavior that has made someone feel uncomfortable, the reported individual will be removed from the venue and the police will be called,” the statement said. Club 77 said in the statement it will “encourage feedback” — which patrons were quick to provide, with comments including “RIP to social interaction” and “not allowed to look at people now.” Florida man on trial for attempting to murder, rape ex-wife axes lawyers and cross-examines her A Florida man on trial for attempted murder abruptly axed his lawyers Wednesday so he could personally cross-examine the alleged victim — his ex-wife. Trevor Summers, 45, is accused of sneaking into the home of his then estranged spouse, Alisa Mathewson, in March 2017 to carry out a murder-suicide plot. Prosecutors said Summers hogtied Mathewson — the mother of his five kids — with Christmas lights and raped her during the two-day ordeal. The victim appeared badly shaken Wednesday after realizing that her tormentor was set to interrogate her at his leisure. “Good morning, Ms. Mathewson,” Summers said, as his ex-wife teared up and looked away without a response. The defendant quizzed her about their sex life before prosecutors objected — and challenged the claim that he had raped her after entering her residence through a window. “You broke into my home in the middle of the night… attacked me and tied me up,” Mathewson said after one of his questions. “Yes, you threatened me to have sex with you. You raped me!” “So you're calling it rape?” Summers responded. “It is!” Mathewson said. “That is the definition of rape. To come into someone's home and attack them and tie them up and then have sex with them! That is the definition of rape!” According to prosecutors, Summers later left the home and drove with Mathewson in search of a secluded marina where he planned to charter a boat, kill her, and then himself. But the captive seized an opportunity to flee when Summers stopped at a Walmart. Mathewson sneaked out of the car and ran around the parking lot while screaming for help. An employee called police after spotting Summers frantically shoving her back in the car and speeding off, prosecutors said. Mathewson testified Monday that Summers drove her to a secluded area and slashed her wrist to punish her for the escape try. The saga finally concluded with Summers cutting his neck and attempting to strangle Mathewson with a rope before officers arrived at the scene and placed him in custody. Italian man tests positive for COVID-19, monkeypox and HIV all on the same day An Italian man has become the first in the world to test positive for COVID-19, monkeypox and HIV all on the same day. The unidentified 36-year-old first developed a fever, sore throat and headaches nine days after returning from a trip to Spain where he had unprotected sex with other men, according to a case study in the Journal of Infection. He first tested positive for COVID-19 on July 2 — then within hours started getting a rash and “small, painful” blisters around his body, legs, face and butt, the study said. He went to an ER, and on the second day there again tested positive for COVID-19 — as well as monkeypox. That same day, July 6, he also learned that he had HIV, despite being negative when he last tested, in September, the study said. “As this is the only reported case of monkeypox virus, SARS-CoV-2 and HIV co-infection, there is still not enough evidence supporting that this combination may aggravate [a] patient's condition,” they wrote. The researchers said that the “case emphasizes that sexual intercourse could be the predominant way of transmission” of monkeypox. “Therefore, complete [sexually transmitted infection] screening is recommended after a diagnosis of monkeypox. “In fact, our patient tested positive for HIV-1 and, given his preserved CD4 count, we could assume that the infection was relatively recent,” they noted of the patient, who previously also had syphilis. While it is the first known case of its kind, more will likely follow given the rapid spread of monkeypox, with more than 45,000 cases reported in 98 countries. “The majority of cases were registered in gay or bisexual men often suffering from other” STIs, they noted. Girl, 3, declared ‘dead,' wakes up at her funeral — then dies again A 3-year-old girl woke up during her funeral before being officially declared dead after doctors mistakenly presumed her dead the first time. The family of Camila Roxana Martinez Mendoza is accusing the Salinas de Hidalgo Basic Community Hospital of negligence after reportedly declaring the toddler dead too soon. The young girl was experiencing stomach pains, vomiting and fever when her mother, Mary Jane Mendoza, took her to see a pediatrician in the family's hometown of Villa de Ramos on Aug. 17, El Universal newspaper reported. The doctor escalated the issue and recommended that the child be taken to the hospital in the central Mexican state of San Luis Potosí to be treated for dehydration. Doctors at Salinas de Hidalgo Basic Community Hospital placed a cold towel over her little body to lower her body temperature and placed a pulse oximeter on one of her fingers to keep track of her oxygen levels. Camila was released from the hospital with a prescription for paracetamol — which treats pain and fever — but continued to deteriorate as the day continued. She was seen by another doctor who instructed her mother to feed her fruits and water and prescribed a different medication. Despite the medications and advice from medical experts, the toddler continued vomiting. Her worried parents took her to see another doctor, who suggested she be rushed to the emergency room. Camila was readmitted to Salinas between 9 and 10 p.m., and doctors worked to help the young girl. “They wanted to give her (intravenous therapy). They took a long time to put oxygen on her,” her mother said. “They didn't put it on her because they couldn't find her little veins; finally, a nurse managed it.” After about 10 minutes, the IV was removed from the little girl, who was then taken away to rest. “She still was hugging me, they took her away and told me, ‘You have to let her rest in peace.'” the grieving mother remembered. Bizarrely, Mendoza was then kept from her ailing daughter in a separate, locked room. She was able to get out but still could not get into the room where her daughter was being kept. Camila was later declared dead from dehydration. The next day, a funeral viewing was held for friends and family to mourn the beloved toddler when Mendoza noticed the glass window of the coffin fogging up. Other funeral attendees told the distraught mother that she must be hallucinating and dissuaded her from opening the coffin. However, Camila's paternal grandmother reportedly rushed to take a closer look when she noticed Camila's eyes moving and shockingly discovered she had a pulse. Camila was rushed by ambulance back to the Salinas hospital, where doctors unsuccessfully attempted to revive her and declared her dead again — this time from a cerebral edema (brain swelling). “That was really where my baby was done. We are devastated because my girl was a very happy person, she got along with everyone, she didn't single anyone out,” Mendoza said. “We have many people on the ranch who support us because she was cherished.” The first death certificate obtained by her parents listed Camila's cause of death as just dehydration, while the second noted dehydration, cerebral edema and metabolic failure. “What I really want is for justice to be served. I have no grudge against the doctors [who] went to extreme [measures],” she said. “I only ask that the doctors, nurses and directors be changed so that it does not happen again.” Sleeping man cuts off his genitals — while dreaming of chopping meat A man's nightmare became a reality after he dreamed about cutting meat — only to realize he'd sliced off his own genitals in his sleep. Kofi Atta, a farmer from the south of Ghana, was dreaming about preparing meat for his family while asleep in his chair at home on Aug. 12. The 42-year-old said he doesn't know how or when he picked up the knife, but he woke up “confused” in a pool of his own blood and in extreme pain, according to BBC News Pidgin. “I dey sit inside chair wey I doze off, so as I dey sleep I dream say I dey cut meat wey dey in front of me,” Atta said in Ghanaian pidgin English to the news outlet. After waking and realizing what had happened, the man began to yell for help — with neighbors luckily hearing him and rushing to his aid. He was rushed to a hospital in critical condition but was stabilized and given fluids. On Aug. 16, Atta told reporters he will need surgery as he completely severed his genitals. Ghanaian channel GHOne TV reported that Atta's wife, Adwoa Konadu, wasn't home when the incident occurred and received a call from a neighbor who was at the scene saying he was ”bleeding profusely as he has cut off his manhood with a sharp knife.” The outlet reported that when she arrived she tried to stop the bleeding, reportedly using a diaper, before driving her husband to St. Francis Xavier Hospital in Assin Fosu. He was later transferred to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital in Kumasi for further treatment but is reportedly concerned that he cannot afford treatment. The farmer hasn't detailed whether he suffers from any sleep-related conditions, but it's been theorized he may be affected by parasomnia — a term for unusual behaviors experienced during different stages of sleep. According to Healthline, parasomnia conditions include nightmares, night terrors, sleepwalking, sleep talking and REM Sleep Behavior Disorder.
‘World's most extravagant' vibrator among stolen items in Texas sex shop heist A naughty trio swiped more than $58,000 worth of sex toys from a Texas shop — including “the world's most extravagant” Swarovski crystal-encrusted vibrator, according to the store. The racy, broad-daylight heist happened June 30 at Sexology Institute in San Antonio, with surveillance video catching the creeps breaking into the front door, then filling bags with sex toys, lubricants and lingerie before bolting in a truck. “We came in to empty racks,” Sexology Institute manager Jasper St. James told the San Antonio Express News. “They took the world's most extravagant vibrator and they were done.” The fancy pleasure toy valued at $10,000 was a favorite among customers, who'd take pictures with it, St. James told the paper. The thieves — who took nearly everything in the store, including the cash register, according to St. James — have not yet been nailed. The only items left behind were books and LGBTQ merchandise. The store was forced to close its brick-and-mortar and online shops in order to restock. “We feel incredibly violated and our hearts are broken,” the shop wrote on Instagram. “As a small business this loss not only impacts us financially but emotionally as well. We know it will get better but even re-watching the videos of what happened makes us so anxiety-ridden. We are so glad no one was hurt and we completely understand things could have been worse, but it's still awful.” Donations helped the store reopen its location in San Antonio's King William neighborhood. “Unfortunately, the men are wearing masks, gloves, and there are no clear identifiers,” the Sexology Institute said in a post. “The truck seems to be a 2006 black-primed Chevy Silverado. If y'all recognize these men, the truck, or see any of our stolen items on Facebook Marketplace or local flea markets, please let us know.” Texas man John Birdwell charged for allegedly headbutting father-in-law to death in bar A Texas man is facing charges for allegedly killing his father-in-law by headbutting him at a local bar. According to the incident report, the Fort Worth Police Department was called to Woody's Tavern at approximately midnight after a fight broke out between John Birdwell, 38, and Robert Bearden, 66. Birdwell was talking to his wife's father at the bar about his troubled marriage and Bearden was trying to convince his son-in-law to sign divorce papers. Birdwell suddenly lost control and allegedly grabbed his father-in-law's head and headbutted him three times, according to a police affidavit obtained by Fox 4. The assault continued until both men fell to the ground, Bearden unconscious from the attack. Other bar patrons were forced to pull Birdwell away, the affidavit states. Birdwell fled the scene after the attack. Bearden was taken to the hospital where he later died from his injuries. The Tarrant County Medical Examiner's Office said the cause of death was blunt head trauma. Birdwell is being held in the Tarrant County jail on a $75,000 bond. Records show Bearden was a veterinarian at VCA Mercedes Place Animal Hospital in Benbrook, Texas. Oklahoma woman Rachael Zion Clay slips out of cuffs, shoots cop Oklahoma authorities have released wild dash and bodycam video that shows a handcuffed woman retrieving a police rifle and firing it out of the back of a patrol car – striking a civilian and a deputy. The Grady County Sheriff's Office responded to a wellness check at a home in Blanchard just before noon on Aug. 12. Deputies took a woman into custody, placed her in handcuffs and into the back of a marked SUV. Video taken inside the vehicle shows her squirming in the backseat, slipping one hand out of her cuffs and fishing out the rifle. She loads it, aims out the window and begins firing. Officers' bodycams recorded the civilian getting shot in the chest. A deputy also suffered a minor injury when a bullet grazed his head, according to authorities. The victims scrambled to take cover behind another law enforcement vehicle as they called in the incident. The wounded man's son was also nearby and is seen running over and assisting with first aid as officers call for backup and an ambulance. Both victims were hospitalized with injuries that were not considered life-threatening, according to authorities. Police initially described the encounter as a barricade situation and eventually the suspect, Rachael Zion Clay, surrendered to authorities. Jail records show she is being held at the Grady County jail on $1 million bond and a charge of “shooting with intent to kill.” Off-campus UC Berkeley student housing bans white people from common areas An off-campus housing co-op for University of California, Berkeley students bans white people from entering common spaces to “avoid white violence” — sparking criticism that the policy inflames racial tensions. The five-story, 30-room “Person of Color Theme House” near the school requires students to declare their race when signing in and to announce when they're bringing white guests in to the building, according to house rules leaked on Reddit.com. “Many POC moved here to be able to avoid white violence and presence, so respect their decision of avoidance if you bring white guests,” the rules declare. “White guests are not allowed in common spaces.” Woman charged for killing fellow panhandler with stake over turf war A woman killed a fellow panhandler while they fought over turf along a Chicago expressway last Friday. Mary Normand, 26, and Eriberto Hernandez, 47, had “ongoing issues” about panhandling on the southbound Edens Expressway exit ramp at Wilson Avenue, Assistant State's Attorney Danny Hanichak said during a bail hearing on Monday afternoon. At 2:45 p.m. on Friday, Normand accused Hernandez of panhandling in her territory. The disagreement quickly turned physical. Normand repeatedly struck Hernandez with a 3-foot-long metal stake and then pushed him under a moving box truck, Hanichak said. After Hernandez was run over by the truck, Normand continued to repeatedly beat him with the stake while he cried for help and attempted to defend himself with his hands. Hernandez was rushed to the hospital with life-threatening injuries, he did not survive the assault. The Cook County medical examiner ruled the death as a homicide. Despite panhandling in the same area as Hernandez, Normand is not homeless, Assistant Public Defender Jennifer Hodel said. Normand lives with her fiancé and has been working at real estate company for the last three years, Hodel said. Normand ran away from the scene but returned almost five hours later and was arrested, according to Fox 5. Normand was ordered held without bail on a count of first-degree murder by Judge Maryam Ahmad. False prophet' pastor berates congregation for not buying him pricey new watch Time for a new preacher! A Missouri pastor was caught on camera berating his “broke” congregation for failing to buy him an expensive Movado watch — sparking criticism that he wants to make a profit, not be a prophet. Pastor Carlton Funderburke of the Church at the Well in Kansas City was giving a fiery sermon about “honoring God's shepherds” when he scolded his followers for being too poor to give him the pricey timepiece he'd requested, according to now-viral TikTok footage. “See that's how I know you still poor, broke, busted, and disgusted because of how you've been honoring me,” Funderburke said during the speech on Aug. 7. “I'm not worth your McDonald's money? I'm not worth your Red Lobster money? I ain't worth your St. John's knit? Y'all can't afford it no-how,” he continues in the clip, as some church-goers amazingly respond with encouragement. “I ain't worth your Louis Vuitton? I ain't worth your Prada? I'm not worth your Gucci?” Funderburke, who founded the church with his wife, then tears into his flock for failing to understand what “God is saying” about how to treat those who deliver his message. ‘”Ooh, you can buy a Movado [watch] at Sam's [Club] and you know I asked for one last year. And here it is all the way in August and I still ain't got it,” he says of the watch, which ranges in price from roughly $300 to $3,000. “Let me kick down the door and talk to my cheap sons and daughters.” Observers called him a “false prophet” and said he's spinning the word of God for his own material gain. Funderburke later apologized, saying the “video clip does not reflect my heart or my sentiment toward God's people.” “Though there is context behind the content of the clip, no context will suffice to explain the hurt and anguish caused by my words,” Funderburke says in a video posted to the church's YouTube page. “I have also privately apologized to our church, who has extended their love and support to me.”
Skunk sprays church robbery suspect Grant M. Simonson moments before arrest Whoever smelt it, dealt it. A suspected church burglar in Washington state got a smelly sendoff after a skunk sprayed him just before his arrest last week, authorities said. The incident happened around 3:10 a.m. Thursday when deputies responded to a reported burglary in progress at the Church of the Nazarene in Deer Park, the Spokane County Sheriff's Office said Tuesday. The caller told deputies that a male wearing a mask over his face and holding a flashlight was seen on a surveillance live feed walking around inside the church and looking at audio equipment. Deputies arrived at the scene and saw a man, later identified as 28-year-old Grant M. Simonson, walk past an open window and then begin to climb out, the sheriff's office said. Deputies demanded the suspect show his hands and get on the ground. “He began to follow the commands when suddenly a skunk came running around the corner, approached Simonson, and released its well-known and malodorous spray before fleeing the area,” the sheriff's office said. Simonson was taken into custody without further incident. After deputies read him his rights, they said Simonson claimed that he was “wide awake and bored,” so he went for a ride on his bicycle and noticed an open church window. Deputies said he claimed to have gone home before returning on foot, removing a screen from the window and entering because he was “curious.” Simonson was booked into the Spokane County Jail for second-degree burglary. He was released later that day on his own recognizance. As for the skunk, deputies said the animal's whereabouts are unknown. “The skunk is a wild animal and not affiliated with law enforcement or the church,” the sheriff's office advised. Louisiana mom FaceTimed her ex to show how she'd slit his kids' throats: A disturbed Louisiana mom repeatedly video called her ex after slitting their two young kids' throats — showing him his daughter “gasping for air” before she died, according to harrowing court documents of the “unspeakable” crime. Jenee Pedesclaux, 31, first called her ex, Jermaine Roberts, to tell him she'd damaged his vehicle amid their bitter child-custody battle — and that she planned to kill herself and their kids rather than go to jail, according to court documents obtained by NOLA.com. She then FaceTimed him three times to show how she'd stabbed their 2-year-old son, Jay'Ceon, and daughter, Paris, 4, the report said. In the last video call, she showed him how she had slit both kids' throats — with their daughter “gasping for air” on the bed before later being pronounced dead in a local New Orleans hospital, the outlet said. Covered in blood, Pedesclaux at some point went on Facebook Live to blame her ex for the bloodbath. “My children is dead! I'm done!” she howled in the distressing live video, although her young son survived. “I'm done with life, and it's all Jermaine's fault! … I'm killing myself, I'm done!” she sobbed. The kids' dad — who called cops after the first threatening call — raced over to the house, but his ex had locked him out, Nola.com reported. “We gone. It's over with,” Pedesclaux allegedly told him. The dad eventually managed to force his way in after smashing a window, finding his kids on a blood-soaked bed, the girl foaming at the mouth and her younger brother face down in blood, court documents said. Pedesclaux allegedly bit Roberts and threatened him with a knife before he took the children to University Medical Center, where they underwent emergency surgery. Despite multiple life-saving procedures, Paris was soon pronounced dead due to hemorrhagic shock due to her injuries, which included a cut on her neck, down to her spine, along with cuts to the chest and shoulders. Little Jay'Ceon remained intubated in critical condition as of Monday, awaiting another surgery to determine whether his trachea is healing correctly, the court docs said. Their mom had turned the knife on herself, but only suffered superficial cuts to her collar bone area, the report said. She was treated at a hospital before being booked into jail Monday night. Pedesclaux faces charges of second-degree murder, attempted murder, and second-degree cruelty to a juvenile, records show. She is due in court Thursday. The deadly attack came after a long-running child-custody battle between the pair, with the dad fighting for joint custody, arguing that his ex was “not stable or providing a healthy environment for the kids,” the outlet reported. Pedesclaux also tested positive in March for benzodiazepine, cocaine and cannabinoids during a drug screening at drug court, the outlet said. However, Pedesclaux's family blamed mental health for the “unspeakable tragedy.” “Mental health is a crisis that is affecting every family and ours is no different. The lack of mental health services and the toxic mix of social media has added to the problems we face as a community,” the family told NOLA.com in a statement. ‘Too ugly to sing': Cops make off-key Bangladesh singer sign apology This was one canary cops didn't want singing. Bangladesh police forced a quirky singer to sign an apology, telling him he was “too ugly to sing” and pushing him to stop his off-key performances of classic songs, reports said. “Hero” Alom claimed he was picked up at 6 a.m. last Thursday and kept at police headquarters for eight hours, AFP reported – describing the social media star as “an out-of-tune” singer. “Everyone was randomly throwing questions at me and I had to keep turning around and around,” Alom told India Today. “Then someone suddenly grabbed my hair and asked if I have a face that looks like a hero.” Authorities were allegedly focused on the cringy crooner's takes on songs by Nobel laureate Rabindranath Tagore and national poet Kazi Nazrul Islam, according to AFP. Cops told the news agency they received “many complaints” about Alom's singing and that he apologized for the songs and for wearing police uniforms in his videos. “(He) totally changed the (traditional) style (of singing),” Dhaka detective Harun ur Rashid said, according to AFP. “He assured us that he won't repeat this.” Cops denied trying to push the singer to change his name, according to the news agency. Alom, who has close to 2 million Facebook followers, posted a new music video after his alleged ordeal showing him behind bars and about to be executed, reports said. “This is an independent Bangladesh. If I cannot speak, sing or have recreational activities, then yes I think my rights are being snatched away,” the singer told India Today. Alom allegedly ran for office in 2018 and received 638 votes. Father fights Albanian police chief who allegedly killed daughter with boat A devastated father fought an Albanian police commissioner on the beach after the cop allegedly crashed his boat into his 7-year-old British daughter, killing her. The girl, Jonada Avdia, a British-born citizen, was killed on Tuesday while playing in the ocean when she was hit by a speedboat's propeller off Potam Beach in Albania. The boat was driven by officer Arjan Tase while he was off-duty, according to reports. When Tase parked his boat on the shore right after the fatal crash, her father Bedlar Avdia confronted his daughter's alleged killer and a brawl ensued, photos shared by Albania's former prime minister Sali Berisha show, the Daily Mail reported. The cop allegedly drove the craft into waters designated exclusively for swimmers. “I was bathing together with my daughter near the shore, I saw a white boat with two people on board,” Avdia, an Albanian native, reportedly told local news outlets. He said the boat parked briefly on the shore where a woman got off and more women and children boarded before taking off in the direction of he and his daughter. “It came in our direction and came at hellish speed and separated me and the girl,” he said “I dove down under the water and the craft hit my daughter with the engine part, cutting her all over.” Tase, the chief of police in the city of Elbasan, was later arrested and was due in court in the city of Vlora Friday. Investigators claim the cop was transporting members of his family from Porto Palermo to Potam — a roughly 5-mile distance — when the crash occurred. Law enforcement officials said Tase plowed through an area clearly designated for swimmers with marked buoys to drop family members off before pulling away and hitting young Jonada just 15 feet from the shoreline. The boat's propeller blades “caused serious injuries that led to immediate loss of life,” a police spokesman told local outlets. Tase has been charged with “negligent homicide” and 15 police officers who were supposed to be guarding the beach that day have been fired, the Daily Mail reported. The incident sparked protests in the capital city of Tirana, where demonstrators demanded the resignation of the country's Minister of Interior Bledar Çuçi, Director General of the State Police Gledis Nanos, and Tourism Minister Mirela Kumbaro, according to Albania Daily. Kumbaro told Albania Daily that she blames Tase in the tragedy and called for a maximum sentence in his case. “An angel is no longer among us because of the stupidity of a man who broke every law, every rule and every norm with tragically irreversible consequences,” she said. “With awareness that there are no words to serve as a consolation for the parents, the family for the tragedy they suffered, the request goes to justice to do its job, without compromise, with maximum punishment for anyone who breaks the law.” Shameless scoundrel uses fake $100 bill at boy's lemonade stand Washington state police were looking for the shameless scoundrel that used a counterfeit $100 bill at a child's lemonade stand. The fully grown man was caught on camera wearing sunglasses while he passed the fake bank note to Jeremy, 11, at his makeshift Everett concession stand earlier this summer, police said. The cheapskate then put the squeeze on the unsuspecting kid when he asked for exact change, forcing the boy to dip into his allowance to hand over $85 in legal tender, according to officials. Jeremy didn't know he had gotten a lemon of a big bill until he tried to spend it at a gas station, cops said. The pathetic scam left a sour taste in the mouths of investigators. “While our detectives work hard to bring closure to every case, this case struck a particular chord with them, and they want to do everything they can to get justice for Jeremy and catch this counterfeiter,” cops wrote on Facebook. Canadian man takes out billboard to trade one stick of string cheese A Toronto big cheese is paying big bucks for a massive billboard trying to trade a snack he found in the refrigerator of his new home. Angel Domingo bought a billboard in the city's Yonge-Dundas Square to advertise a single stick of string cheese apparently left behind by the previous residents, he told GlobalNews. “FOR TRADE: One Cheestring,” the massive billboard reads. “Accepting trades for one Cheese string. Marble flavour, still in original packaging. “No lowballs. I know what I have,” the ad concludes with a phone number. Domingo said he regularly trades items online such as car parts or furniture but thought he'd see what he could get for the string cheese. Since the unusual advertisement went up, he's been getting all kinds of trade offers in “droves.” “This is probably the strangest thing that I've ever had to offer up,” he told the Canadian outlet. “Somebody told me that I wouldn't get anything for it and nobody would want it, but I guess some people really want it.” “(I've received) a lot of offers,” Domingo continued. “Some people are calling me again because the first offer they had wasn't good enough.” he largest offer he received in exchange for the cheese? Two Persian cats, he said. The picky barterer has yet to accept any offers, however. “I've been telling everybody the same thing when they asked me what I'm looking for … it's like you'll know when you see it,” he said. There's been a lot offers and a lot of it is just fluff — there hasn't been any quality,” Domingo added. He would not disclose how much he paid to put up the billboard, but admitted the joke cost “a lot of money.”
Man in China arrested for marrying off underage, mentally disabled daughter to 3 different men for money The father, surnamed Xie, from Lianyuan Hunan province, sold his daughter Tingting to receive bride payments. He claimed that his daughter was over 20 years old, although she was born in January 2005. Tingting first got engaged to a man in 2018 when she was under 14 years old. In 2019, she was engaged to a man, surnamed Chen, in his 30s. She had just turned 14, although Xie kept her true age a secret. The matchmaker who brought the two together stated that she was “18 years old and young and fertile” and that she “doesn't even know that one plus one equals two.” When Chen asked Tingting for her ID card to open an account at the bank, he discovered that she was only 16 years old. He and his family, however, expressed nonchalance as the two had been married for more than two years at the time. “She was young and fertile, which is difficult to find in rural regions,” Chen said per South China Morning Post. Xie received more than 90,000 yuan (approximately $13,328) from Chen's family. He also collected tens of thousands of yuan from the other two men as well. When the Chen family discovered that Xie had sold his daughter to a third family, they demanded their money back. Xie refused to return the money. When police arrested Xie in March, they discovered that he had spent all the money. The Lianyuan City Public Security Bureau announced on Aug. 2 that the investigation had been completed. The case has now been sent to prosecutors as they decide whether to charge Xie with fraud. Xie's wife, who also has a mental disability, was sent to a nursing home in Lianyuan City Center, while Tingting was sent to the Lianyuan City Social Welfare Institute. Weibo users expressed outrage, condemning the father. Russian groom Stepan Dolgikh sentenced for wedding-day murder of bride A groom has been sentenced to 18 years for killing his new wife on their wedding day in front of shocked guests. Stepan Dolgikh, 35, beat wife Oksana Poludentseva, 36, to death then dumped her body in a ravine. He told a court in Novosibirsk, Russia that he believed his new bride was cheating on him. Dolgikh had a previous conviction for murder but the wife – who got to know him while he was in prison as a pen pal – believed she could tame him. Witnesses said he started kicking and punching mother-of-one Poludentseva after becoming “jealous” of her communication with another guest at their alcohol-fuelled wedding party in a private house in Chik village. He accused his new wife of “behaving incorrectly”, it was alleged. Chief investigator Kirill Petrushin said: “He began to punch and kick her outside the house.” He continued to attack her inside the house. “He grabbed her by the hair, hit her, pushed her out into the street, where he also continued to strike her body and head.” When she appeared lifeless “he dumped her into a nearby ravine”. The incident was several hours after the couple had exchanged vows at their wedding. Other guests were reportedly too scared to intervene but they called law enforcement. The groom was detained at the scene by the Russian National Guard. Dolgikh confessed to the killing, said Petrushin, senior regional detective of the Russian Investigative Committee. “He beat her for a long time, in front of witnesses, and struck her vital organs – in the torso and head,” he said. He “fully admitted guilt during the investigation” but failed to repent, he said. “He was jealous of her with one of the male guests,” said Petrushin. “It seemed to her husband that she had behaved incorrectly, which caused a scandal. “All the rest were afraid of him, so they tried to intervene, but were rebuffed.” A friend said: “She truly loved him, and was waiting for release.” “The deceased woman knew about his criminal record,” said Petrushin. “They met while he was serving a sentence in prison for his previous crimes.” He added: “She did not think that while drinking alcohol or just in a fit of anger, a person like this may go over the limit and commit a serious crime.” California dermatologist Yue Yu arrested for allegedly poisoning husband A Southern California dermatologist was arrested last week for allegedly poisoning her husband — who set up a hidden camera to catch her in the act, police said. Yue Yu, 45, who treats patients at an office in Mission Viejo, was busted Thursday after cops served a search warrant on the couple's $2.5 million mansion in Irvine. Yu's 53-year-old husband Jack Chen told police he had been suffering from an unexplained ailment for about a month. “His condition became increasingly worse and based on the husband examining his routine and looking at what could be causing it, he grew suspicious of his wife and put a hidden camera in place that captured her poisoning him,” Irvine police Lt. Bill Bingham told The Post Monday. Yu's husband of 10 years — who turned over the video evidence to authorities – “sustained significant internal injuries,” but is expected to recover, police said. Bingham declined to elaborate further or provide additional details of the alleged poisoning, citing an ongoing investigation. Detectives are still looking into a potential motive, he said. “We do believe this is a domestic-related incident,” he said. “There's nothing that we discovered that has caused us concern for the patients that [Yu] treated” Yu, whose bail was set at $30,000, was released from custody late Friday after posting bond, online records show. Prosecutors were reviewing the allegations to determine whether to press charges, an Orange County District Attorney's Office spokeswoman said. Chen filed for an emergency restraining order in Orange County on Friday, claiming he was the victim of domestic violence, court documents reviewed by The Post show. A hearing had been set for Aug. 18. He also filed for divorce on Friday. The couple have been married since July 2012 and have two kids, ages 7 and 8. Chen is seeking sole custody of their children and asked the court to keep the kids away from their mom pending an upcoming court proceeding. “Ms. Yu absolutely and unequivocally denies trying to poison her husband or anyone else,” her attorney, David Wohl, told The Post on Monday. He wouldn't comment any further on the allegations against his client, but said they have yet to receive video footage. “She doesn't plan to go anywhere near the accusing spouse right now,” Wohl said when asked about the request for a restraining order. Yu is affiliated with Providence Mission Hospital, which issued a statement saying staffers were cooperating with authorities. “The incident is a domestic matter which occurred in Irvine and we want to reassure our community that there has been no impact on our patients,” Mission Heritage Medical Group officials told The Post, while referring additional inquiries to cops. Yu's biography was apparently removed from the hospital's website as of Sunday, the Los Angeles Times reported. Staffers at Yu's Mission Viejo office declined to comment when reached by The Post early Monday. Attempts to reach Yu and her husband were unsuccessful. Pennsylvania defense attorney charged with pressuring clients into sex SCRANTON, Pa. — A defense attorney targeted vulnerable clients and pressured them into having sex in exchange for legal work, the Pennsylvania attorney general's office said Monday. Corey J. Kolcharno is charged with four counts of promoting prostitution after an investigation found he sexually exploited clients, tethering “his performance as their counsel to a demand for sexual services from them or in exchange for payment,” police wrote in an affidavit. Kolcharno — a former Lackawanna County prosecutor — was arraigned Monday and released on $20,000 unsecured bail. A statement issued by his attorney said Kolcharno “has made a conscious decision to accept responsibility.” Kolcharno told reporters he intended to give up his law license. According to state police, Kolcharno targeted women who struggled with addiction, had been sexually abused or had financial problems. At first he requested nude photos or worn underwear, then escalated his predatory behavior into a demand for sex in exchange for legal services, authorities said. He paid his clients as much as $500, police said. Victims said they were ashamed but felt they had no choice but to give in, authorities said. Kolcharno “picked these victims because they had limited choices, because he thought they would be easy to silence, and less likely to be believed if they ever came forward,” Attorney General Josh Shapiro said in a written statement. Investigators said they found hundreds of sexually explicit images of Kolcharno's clients on his cellphone. Police said the crimes took place between 2018 and 2022, when Kolcharno was a partner in the Fanucci & Kolcharno law firm outside Scranton. UK man caught by police after hiding inside a giant teddy bear He was able to run but could barely hide. A man who was wanted for car theft and failing to pay at a gas station was sent to jail Friday after police found him hiding inside a teddy bear in Manchester, England, according to Greater Manchester Police. Joshua Dodson, 18, stuffed himself inside the giant 5-foot teddy bear at his girlfriend's house when he tried to escape from police, according to the Sun. “When we went to arrest him, our officers noticed a large bear breathing in the address before finding Dobson hidden inside!” Greater Manchester Police tweeted. Dodson's botched plan unfolded in May, when police were on the hunt for him after he stole a Mitsubishi SUV worth $10,364. Dodson was caught when police raided his girlfriend's home and spotted the teddy bear in a corner of the house “breathing.” That's when police yanked the man from the teddy bear inside the home.
Mom gets revenge on nosy neighbors using ‘drug-addled whores and drunks' She made dummies out of them. A Michigan mom got the ultimate revenge on her nosy, spying neighbors — by adorning her garden with maniacal mannequins dressed as “drug-addled whores, drunks and accident victims” to give prying eyes something to stare it. Photos of her dummy security system are currently going viral as fans praise her ingenious method of exacting vengeance. “I just set up the poses and laugh,” Flint native Tammy Zuniga told Kennedy News of her hilarious hobby. Indeed, the 45-year-old nurse's lawn is littered with passed-out drunkards — festooned with empty beer bottles — and scantily clad “dirty hoes” posing next to signs warning people not to feed them drugs and other lewd messages. In one humorous scene, a ladder accident victim is sprawled atop her roof beside a star-spangled cowboy hat like something out of a bizarro nuclear test town. The mother-of-two started erecting the purposefully profane displays two years ago as a “diversion.” She wanted to stop being “irritated with her nosy neighbors,” who allegedly spied on her while she was working. “I paint garden art out in my garage, I'll make hundreds of statues. It's my hobby,” explained the artist. “I'd be out in my garden working on art projects and I would see blinds moving in windows. There would be pictures being taken.” Along with snapping photos, the intrusive snoops would also tell Zuniga to paint with her door closed — a request the artist deemed ridiculous as she'd be unable to breathe. That's when she decided to turn her artistic talents to trolling her tormenters with riff-raff facsimiles. “The first one I did, I set up a mannequin out on the porch wearing a sweater,” described the gleeful prankster. “The neighbours were so intrigued. I heard noise outside and looked out my window. Sure enough, they were all out there staring.” Next up, Zuniga hung a dummy from her garage for a whole month, Kennedy reported. She said the mannequin was so realistic that people would stop their cars on her block “because they thought somebody needed help.” “I try to keep a straight face through it all,” mused Zuniga. “I figure that if the neighbors think I'm crazy, they'll stop bothering me.” It appears her neighbor-dissuading dummies are paying dividends. “It's worked for the most part,” she said. “Neighbors don't really talk to me much anymore, which is kind of nice. They probably think I'm the weird mannequin lady now.” The mannequin maven, for one, says she's having a blast with the gag, describing: “What's really bad is that I now seize every opportunity. Whenever I see them outside, I feel the need to set up the mannequins. I get excited to see them now, it's not even normal.” The sight of her spying neighbors used to make her blood boil. However, now the giddy gal says she's “looking out my window to see their reactions to my mannequins,” adding, “I'm having so much fun with this.” “Now, I can't even be mad at them, because they've got to put up with me!” added Zuniga, who says the only problem is freaking out the repair people. “The hardest part was whenever I had someone come over to install a water softener or whatever,” she explained of the doll-lateral damage. “I'd forget to tell them that I had mannequins and not to be alarmed.” The jokester added, “They'd show up and they'd be like ‘Oh my god! I didn't know what to think, I thought I'd have to save somebody!'” And Zuniga isn't stopping her antics anytime soon, most recently putting up two ladies of the evening in spangly miniskirts and gaudy cutoff tops that display their midriffs. The inventive artist even posted signs that read “A dirty hoe is a happy hoe” and “Please do not feed the whores drugs.” The latest display will reportedly be up and trolling neighbors until winter. “Initially when I set them up, I thought they were going to be my last display,” said Zuniga. “But I don't know anymore — I really had fun with it.” Despite her dedication to her doll-arama, the trickster says her goal isn't to ruin her neighbor's lives. She explained, “There could be way worse neighbors. Mine are just really incredibly nosy. I'm just trying to entertain them.” 10-year-old kidnapped after baseball practice punches man to escape When an Oklahoma mom arrived at the baseball fields to pick up her 10-year-old son after practice, she reported he was nowhere to be found. Other parents and players were already looking for him, she told authorities when calling for help. Oklahoma City police officers were responding to the missing child call at PCAA Fields when they learned the child had since been found. He and his family were waiting for police by the time officers arrived shortly after 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 3. As his parents tried to comfort him, the 10-year-old boy was “crying and shaken up” while reporting what happened, according to a police report. He says he had been sitting by himself on the upper left side of the ball field bleachers after baseball practice — waiting for his mom — when a man carrying a “briefcase” grabbed him and forced him away by holding his chest, authorities said. After he was taken at least 200 yards away, behind a nearby building, the boy reported he “was able to punch (the man) and break free.” He then frantically ran back to the bleachers looking for help. As the suspect was moving quickly back toward him, the boy told the officer he decided to hide. The man ran away, police said, and the boy was able to reunite with his family. Meanwhile, authorities say a groundskeeper on a John Deer Gator had followed the suspect out of the ball park. He “provided a grainy cell pic of the (suspect), who appeared to be wearing black colored clothing and carrying a handbag or briefcase type bag.” Responding officers found a man matching the description, police said, and the boy then identified him as the same man he punched and escaped from. The man, later identified as 39-year-old Ryan Wayne Miller, was arrested on a kidnapping charge, according to jail records. He is being held on a $50,000 bond. The boy says the man did not “make any statements to him” or assault him, according to the police report. Kidnapped girl's escape leads to discovery of two bodies in Alabama A young girl chewed through restraints to escape a rural Alabama home where investigators later found two decomposing bodies, authorities said. José Paulino Pascual-Reyes, 37, is facing kidnapping charges and multiple counts of capital murder in connection to the bodies found at the home after a 12-year-old girl was discovered walking along a roadside early Monday in Dadeville. Tallapoosa County Sheriff Jimmy Abbett told reporters at a press conference that a driver picked up the girl and called 911 — setting off an investigation that led to Pascual-Reyes' arrest and the gruesome discovery, AL.com reported. Pascual-Reyes, who remains jailed pending a bond hearing, was arrested in Auburn. The bodies were found in his Dadeville home, not far from where the girl was discovered wandering alone. The decomposing remains have been sent to the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences to be identified, Abbett said, adding it's unclear how long they had been there. “It's a fluid investigation,” the sheriff told reporters. “Things are changing, and I don't want to jeopardize the identification of our juvenile.” Court filings obtained by WSFA show the girl had been tied to bedposts for nearly a week. She was assaulted and plied with alcohol, but managed to escape by chewing through her restraints, the documents show. Authorities did not indicate whether the girl knew Pascual-Reyes, AL.com reported. “I would say she's a hero,” Abbett said. “It's one of those things we won't get into until later. We gave her medical attention. She is safe now. We want to keep her that way.” 911 call reveals doomed North Carolina pilot jumped before emergency landing A 911 call released Tuesday revealed that the co-pilot who mysteriously vanished midair in North Carolina had “jumped” out of the aircraft. Two Federal Aviation Administration employees could be heard saying that Charles Hew Crooks' co-pilot reported that he leaped out of the damaged plane before it made an emergency landing at Raleigh Durham International Airport on Friday, WRAL reported. “This is from Raleigh Airport,” an FAA air traffic controller said on the recording. “We have a pilot who was inbound to the field. His co-pilot jumped out of the aircraft. He made impact to the ground and here are the coordinates.” The 23-year-old Bucknell University graduate's body was later discovered in the backyard of a home in Fuquay-Varina, North Carolina, about 30 miles south of the airport. In the 13-minute call, an FAA employee said Crooks' co-pilot had reported he “jumped out without the parachute, so he might have impact to the ground.” “I am sure the pilot is going to be shaken up,” one FAA employee said. “I have no idea. He literally just said, ‘My pilot just jumped out.'” “Once the aircraft had landed, it was reconfirmed based on a report the pilot said the person in the aircraft had exited the aircraft prior to landing,” Wake County Emergency Management chief of operations Darshan Patel told the station. Crooks' co-pilot, whose identity hasn't been released, was taken to a hospital for minor injuries during the landing. He was discharged later that day. UK prison guards given ‘banter lessons' so they don't offend inmates There's no poking fun in this pokey! British prison guards were sent to classes for “banter lessons” to avoid hurting jailbirds' feelings with good-natured ribbing, according to a report. Sixteen officers at the Moorland Prison in Doncaster, England attended the workshop to avoid bruising the egos of inmates — after prisoners filed 51 complaints about “offensive language” over the past year, according to the The Sun. “There are all sorts of initiatives and workshops these days to ensure prison officers don't breach equality rules — but a banter workshop is a new one on me,” a former prison staffer told the outlet. He said sensitivity training about someone's race or disability is fine, but that classes advising guards not to make playful wisecracks is over the top. “You can hardly even take the mick out of the football team someone supports,” he said. At least 49 officers at the 1,000-capacity clink also attended an online workshop that teaches diversity training over the past year, officials said. “The prison has online equality and diversity training for staff, with 49 staff completing this within the past year,” according to a report from the prison's Independent Monitoring Board. “During the year, 16 staff attended ‘banter' workshops.” French sailor survives 16 hours under capsized boat in the Atlantic Ocean A 62-year-old French sailor survived for 16 hours in the Atlantic Ocean after his boat capsized — by using an air bubble inside the overturned vessel. The brave seaman was eventually rescued from the rough waters by Spanish coast guard divers in what they described as an operation “verging on the impossible.” The 40-foot boat, called the Jeanne SOLO Sailor, sent out a distress signal at 11:23 p.m. local time on Monday 14 miles from the Sisargas Islands off Spain's northwestern Galicia region, the coast guard said. Tracking data show it had set sail from the Portuguese capital of Lisbon on Sunday morning. As a coast guard ship carrying five divers embarked on the rescue mission, one of three helicopters sent to aid the search tracked down the capsized boat at sunset. A diver was hoisted onto the ship's hull to seek signs of life and the sailor inside, who has not been named, responded to his banging on the hull by knocking from inside. With the sea too rough to attempt a rescue, they attached buoyancy balloons to the ship's hull to prevent it from sinking further and waited until the morning, with the Frenchman still trapped underneath. Two divers swam under the boat to help the sailor, whom they found wearing a neoprene survival suit and submerged in water up to his knees. “Each life saved is our greatest reward,” Spain's Maritime Safety and Rescue Society said in a tweet. Vicente Cobelo, a member of the coast guard's special operations team, told a local station the man voluntarily jumped into the freezing water and swam under the boat to reach the sea's surface. “Of his own initiative, he got into the water and freedived out, helped by the divers who had to pull him through because it was difficult for him to get out in his suit,” he said. He was airlifted to safety and taken to a hospital but discharged a short time later with a clean bill of health. Chinese man Mao Sheng struggles to find a job with baby-faced looks For this guy, the fountain of youth doesn't have any coins in it. A 27-year-old Chinese man says he is struggling to find a job because he looks like a 12-year-old boy, according to a report. Mao Sheng believes that he is being turned down for employment because companies fear he is an agent the Chinese government sent to expose violations of child labor laws, the news outlet NextShark reported. Sheng persisted in job searching because he was the only person able to financially support his father, who had recently suffered from a stroke. He received several rejections from companies, even when he showed proof that he was born in 1995. A frustrated Sheng explained his struggles dealing with a baby face on TikTok, known in China as Douyin. The youthful-looking man shared an experience when he and a friend applied for the same factory job, but only his friend received an offer. In a follow-up video, Sheng, a Guangdong province resident, let followers know he has finally accepted a job offer. Although he's gotten a job, Sheng says he's is looking into the dating world, which could be another significant struggle for the baby face man.
Transgender cheerleader booted from camp denies physical altercation A transgender cheerleader kicked out of a Texas college camp for allegedly choking a teammate has denied that there was any physical altercation, claiming that she was booted from the team based solely on a dad's “assumptions.” Averie Chanel Medlock, 25, insisted that her side of the story wasn't heard before she was slapped with a criminal citation and kicked off her cheer team for allegedly assaulting another cheerleader on July 21 at Ranger College. “I was kicked off the team for assumptions, because of the dad's assumptions of what happened,” Medlock told news stations KTAB/KRBC of the father of her teammate. Medlock, whose real name is Averie Chanel Satchell, claimed she and the other girl, identified only as Karleigh, had an ongoing dispute that boiled over, prompting her teammate to call her father and claim she choked her. Medlock then told officers she didn't put her hands on Karleigh, but she was later cited for assault by physical contact, according to the stations. Medlock said no one at the camp had any issues with her identity until Karleigh and her father complained. “They knew that I was trans,” Medlock said. “They knew that I was different from all the other girls. It wasn't a big deal until her dad came up and made a scene.” Medlock was able to take part in Ranger College's cheer program camp after being legally classified as a female in Texas and changing her name about a month earlier, according to the report. Medlock posted footage of what she called “video evidence” showing that she did not assault Karleigh as her teammate called her a “man” while saying she had a penis. “Her father is going around saying that I choked her out and made her pass out,” Medlock wrote in the post. “I was just joking with Karleigh,” Medlock said on the clip. “I've never done anything mean to Karleigh.” Medlock called out Karleigh's father, Mike Jones, in the post, insisting that he “get his facts straight.” Jones, meanwhile, has claimed that his daughter called him at 1 a.m. while hiding in a room away from Medlock. “I just wonder when this person will own up to their own actions!” Jones wrote on Facebook. “And stop trying to ruin our lives!” French fireman arrested, accused of being serial fire starter A French fireman was arrested on suspicion of being a serial fire starter in a twisted bid for an adrenalin fix. The volunteer first responder, who hails from the south of France, is accused of kickstarting a series of wildfires in the Herault region, not far from the city of Montpellier. Earlier this month, Europe faced its most extreme heatwave to date, with temperatures reaching unprecedented highs of 105 degrees. About 14,000 people were evacuated from France's Gironde region as more than 1,200 firefighters battled to bring the flames under control after a wildfire ravaged parts of Europe. Now, officials are investigating whether the 30-something firefighter — dubbed “pyromaniac fireman” by local news outlets — was responsible for July's blaze. The man had admitted kickstarting infernos with a lighter on May 26, July 21, and most recently, on July 26 and July 27, Montpellier prosecutor Fabrice Belargent, told the Agence France-Presse. “Asked about his motive, he declared that he had done this in order to provoke an intervention by the fire brigade to save him from an oppressive family environment and because of the excitement these interventions caused him,” Belargent said in a statement. “Adrenaline he called it — these are his own words. He also said he had a need for social recognition,” he added. The man worked as a forest engineer for 20 years and is a municipal councilor. He is charged with the “destruction of forests, moors, scrubland or plantations belonging to others under conditions likely to expose people to physical harm.” Speaking to BFMTV, his lawyer, Marie Bar said: “He apologized to the firemen who he works with as he calls them his big family. This is someone who is very devoted to his work. “He finds it hard to explain. In a way he is relieved to have been arrested. He explains it as an addiction.” Meanwhile, former fire brigade colonel Ludovic Pinganaud told the outlet, “It's disgusting to have within the organization this type of individual.” Man trying to kill spider with lighter sparked Utah wildfire A man determined to kill a spider with a lighter ignited a 60-acre wildfire in drought-stricken Utah, authorities said. The suspect, who wasn't immediately identified, was arrested Monday afternoon as 60 acres burned between Springville and Provo. He told responding deputies he had tried “using a lighter to burn a spider” before the fast-moving blaze broke out, according to the Utah County Sheriff's Office. Deputies also found marijuana and drug paraphernalia in his backpack, department officials said. The fire did not destroy any buildings or prompt any evacuations, the Salt Lake Tribune reported. But the firebug's shocking admission caught the eye of Utah Gov. Spencer Cox, who took the opportunity to send a message to the state's younger crowd. “Um, don't do drugs kids (and don't start spiders on fire during a drought),” Cox tweeted late Monday. The fire sent smoke throughout Utah Valley, where crews from Springville, Provo, Mapleton and Utah County fire departments responded, KUTV reported. Two helicopters were also sent to the scene as flames crept up a nearby mountainside. One of the choppers drew water from a reservoir to dump on the blaze, Provo fire officials told the station. It's unclear why the man resorted to using a lighter in his ill-guided attempt to kill the spider, Utah County sheriff officials said. “We don't know why he was doing that,” Sgt. Spencer Cannon told KSL late Monday. “He has been arrested and is being booked into jail right now on a fire-related charge.” The man, who was arrested east of Springville on drug possession and reckless burning charges, had been in the area with his dog, KTVX reported “Not sure exactly why he felt the need to have to burn the spider, but you know, all the regret in the world doesn't change the outcome based on whatever reason there was for him doing that,” Cannon said. Teen killed, 4 injured after maniac stabbed them while out river tubing A Minnesota teen was killed and four other people were wounded after a man went on a stabbing spree near a Wisconsin river during a day of water tubing. The suspect, a 52-year-old man, was arrested about 90 minutes after the attack Saturday at Apple River, St. Croix County Sheriff Scott Knudson said during a press conference. Investigators believe the victims and suspect were tubing on the river in separate groups prior to the stabbings. “At this time we're not sure what started this incident,” Knudson told reporters Saturday night. The 17-year-old boy was rushed to an area hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The other victims — one woman and three men — are in their early 20s, the sheriff said. Most of the wounds suffered were to the torso, he said. A photo taken of the suspect by a witness helped authorities track down him down, Knudson said. The knife used in the attack was not located as of Saturday evening. “It's been a number of years since a stabbing has taken place, maybe 15 years now,” Knudson said of the area. “I'm sure that anybody who witnessed this will never forget it, he added. “So it is a tragedy.” Stabber Claims Self Defense Nicolae Miu, 52, claims he lashed out in self-defense during an encounter that was sparked by a lost phone in the water on Saturday at popular water tubing destination Apple River, according to reports. His stabbing attack killed 17-year-old honor student Isaac Schuman. Miu was charged with one count of first-degree homicide and four counts of attempted first-degree homicide. Following his arrest, Miu told an investigator “they attacked me” and “I was in self-defense mode,” MPR News reported, citing a criminal complaint. Miu, who was water tubing with his wife and others, was searching for a lost phone in a watertight container using a snorkel when he ran into others, MPR News reported. At some point, he was accused of “looking for little girls” and being a “child molester” as members of the group surrounded him after he grabbed the water tubes of juveniles, KARE 11 reported, citing the complaint. Video from the incident then shows the group move toward Miu, who fell into the water, the complaint states. Before a tuber could apparently shove him again, the suspect stabbed him with a knife and then attacked others, according to court documents obtained by KARE 11. One witness reportedly said Miu swam up to the group and looked at them “really weird and sketchily” and at least two people told authorities the altercation turned physical because Miu punched a young woman in the face. Prosecutors believe Miu could have walked away from the situation before it escalated, KARE 11 reported. On top of his self-defense argument, Miu claimed the knife used in the attack did not belong to him and told authorities his life is now “down the tubes,” CBS Minnesota reported. Lollapalooza security guard arrested for allegedly making false mass shooting threat to leave work early A security guard who worked Chicago's Lollapalooza music festival last weekend is accused of making fake mass shooting threats to get out of work early. Janya Williams, 18, allegedly sent her supervisor an anonymous message via TextNow Friday afternoon that said, “Mass shooting at 4pm location Lollapalooza. We have 150 targets.” The supervisor quickly contacted their supervisors and the Chicago police and the FBI were notified. When the supervisor told the team about the threat, Williams allegedly told the supervisor that her sister had seen a similar threat on Facebook. After the supervisor asked Williams to send a screenshot of the threat, she is accused of creating a Facebook account under the name “Ben Scott” and posting a message that said, “Massive shooting at Lollapalooza Grant Park 6:00 p.m.” She then took a screenshot of the post and sent it to her supervisor, prosecutors alleged. The FBI, however, reportedly traced the TextNow message back to Williams' IP address and iCloud, prosecutors said. She allegedly admitted to faking the threats “because she wanted to leave work early,” prosecutors said, and was arrested for felony making a false terrorism threat. She was booked into jail and is being held on $50,000 bail.
